I'm always on the lookout for a great pair of jeans. Lately I've been having good luck with Long and Lean's from the Gap. In the past I've also worn Express, Todd Oldham, and paper denim & cloth... and believe it or not I've had the best fit with these from the Gap.
So what are some of your favorite brands?

I have 2 pairs of Levi's, but other than that, I own all gap jeans. I am pretty tall and skinny and they are the only store that I can go into and actually find jeans that FIT and are LONG enough...a constant struggle for me!

It's sad, but I haven't worn jeans in years, since I tend to either dress up (almost everytime I leave the house) or dress "way down" to shorts or sweats (when I'm sitting around the house watching TV, surfing the net, or cleaning). With that sad, I did try on a pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans at Off 5th (the Saks outlet) just because I couldn't even IMAGINE paying $150 for jeans (those were on sale at $89). They were AMAZING--they fit just right, made my rear look good, had a great color/wash to them, and just the slightest bootcut flare. Looking back now, I wish I had bought them, but I am just too reluctant to spend that much on jeans.

I love Sevens - they're the only designer jeans I've tried - b/c unlike the Gap jeans I normally wear, they don't stretch out. With my Gap jeans, as soon as I wear them once they're all stretched out until I wash them again. Plus the Sevens are cuter and more flattering and the denim just feels like higher quality. I never thought I would pay over $130 for jeans, but since I wear them constantly it's worth it to me to have ones that look really good.

PookiePrincess – I know how you feel! Once I find a pair that fits my criteria and looks good, the search ends (at least for a few months!).
And thanks smiles33 & Elizabeth for the info about both Citizens and Sevens; I will have to check those out. Usually the farthest I go when dressing 'down' is jeans (I hate sweats, lol), so it's worth it to me to spend a little more – I end up wearing them a lot.

I love my Long and Leans from Gap. I am also a (don't laugh) Jordache from Walmart girl. They are long enough for me and fit well. I also love my Sevens.

honestly, for my everyday jeans...I prefer Dollhouse. They fit me perfectly and are stretchy.
For designer I have a pair of Citizens but haven't worn em just yet. I was afraid to cut the tags and I would magically gain weight and I wouldn't be able to return them...stupid, I know.

I love GAP Long & Leans! My favorite everyday pairs are Sevens. My next purchase will probably be Habituals or Page's.

I *heart* Seven Jeans and Citizens...ridiculously expensive but well worth the dough in my opinion...I am short (5'2") and I have a small waist but a...er...generous rear. Those two brands are the ONLY ones that fit me correctly. These days GAP jeans (my old favorites) seem to be made for girls with no rear end and legs that go on for miles and miles....definitely NOT me! :p

Tommy Jeans fit best for my figure. I'm right in the middle of being tall and average (5'7.5''). The jeans hit me perfectly and hug my hips just right...hubby likes them too ;)

My absolute faves are American Eagle, Abercrombie & Lucky.
AE's I always can find in my size length and they are really reasonable at around $40 I think. Abercrombies are sometimes too long (you know how every pair is not *exactly* the same). And I love Lucky's...but NEVER see them in my size.:(

I like abercrombie for "whatever" jeans. I agree about the length issues though... and I used to ALWAYS be the same size in their pants no matter what, but it seems like either I've changed or their size-consistency has..
I love Citizen jeans mmmmm.
I like the look of Sevens a lot but they just don't seem to fit me right...

I have never been one to spend alot on jeans. Old Navy used to be the only jeans i wore but now they are cut for very slim in the legs, which sucks for girls like me with a butt and thighs. I too am one that has a very hard time finding the right length. Recently i have had luck with Levi's 515 boot cut jeans and my fav jeans now are route 66 from kmart though they are almost too short.

I'm currently obsessed with my 2 pairs of Citizens of Humanity jeans. I also have a pair of Chip & Pepper jeans that I like. I have multiple pairs of Sevens, but to be honest, they aren't my favorite. They all fit really differently and I don't find them to be as comfortable as my Citizens. I also like my Paper Denim and Joie jeans (better than the Sevens), but Citizens are my absolute favorite. I have a total jean addiction, can you tell? ;)
PS-If you're looking for "designer" jeans on sale, Shop Bop (http://www.shopbop.com) often has good sales on all of the trendy jeans, especially if you already know what size you wear. I've ordered several different pairs and gotten really good deals.

I live in jeans, every day. But I'm a cheapie jeans girl, nothing over $50. :) (Not until I lose some weight at least). LEI is my fave for fit and long-lastingness, although I couldn't find ANY on my last visits to the department stores, prob. b/c it's summer and there weren't many full length jeans to be found anywhere. 2nd faves are Levis 519, Old Navy low-waist flares, and Paris Blues distressed flares.

I've always had good luck with Old Navy jeans. They are very inexpensive & I love the fit. I usually buy at least one new pair every fall because I just can't pass up a good deal!
gap - long and lean!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah, i have noticed that they have been cutting them to fit smaller girls, but then again maybe i am just gaining a bit of weight. i can't get their low rise ones bc they look obscene on me. i guess i am old fashioned. :p

I love my Express Jeans, low-low-rise. Low rise work best for my body and I will be so sad when they go out of style.
I also like my AG jeans, got them at Nordstrom Rack for only $30 (retail over $100).
And finally, my new favorite jeans are called "Anne" it's a brand from Brasil. We bought them while on vacation recently. They are so so so low and very comfortable, soft and stretchy. I'd live in them except they're too indecent for work :)

I have loved the long and lean jeans by Gap for sooooo LONG, but i decided i wanted something printed on my butt pocket :p I know i'm silly! So I bought these from American Eagle and the run big so i got to get a smaller size YAY for that!

I am a Gap jean wearer through and through. I have Long & leans, Ultra Low rise and two pairs of Low rise bootcut. I like the fit of the low rise bootcuts best. I also hate paying over $50 for blue jeans (I used to work at the Gap so I got them all for under that).

I have a pair of Seven's and honestly I do not care for them as much as my others. I like Abercrombie and right now my favorite brand is Silver. No matter what, I can try on a pair in my size and they'll fit perfectly, gotta love that.

I love Levis Low Rise Boot Cut.
I get them off of Ebay for 14.99 but you can buy them just about anywhere....
My favorite jeans are Blue Cult. I also have some Joe's that I really like. But I am currently desperate for a new pair of jeans, and I really don't want to spend $160 on them right now. I have heard so many people sing the praises of Gap Long and Leans, so I am tempted to try them.

I've worn Express jeans for years. They fit and they last. I have several "classic" looking pairs, and I'll buy a trendier pair there once a year or so.
Incidentally, I've just read this entire thread, and the word "jeans" looks and sounds funny to me now!
And add me to the list of people dreading the days when low-rise bootcut jeans aren't in style any more ... though I might keep mine and wear 'em anyway! :p

I already responded in this thread but I bought 2 new pairs of jeasn this weekend so I wanted to add :) The first pair I bought are Joe's Jeans 'The Socialite' - love them! A small amount of stretch, slight crease from the knee down and they make my legs looka mile long. The next pair I bought were Habitual 'Glory'. Katie Holmes was wearing them on one of her recent outings and I loved the Maltese Iron Cross on the back pockets. These are like a second skin. They have a low rise in the front and it's cut a bit higher in the back so your underwear are never hanging out -- I bent over, squated down, touched my toes and my thong never peaked out once! Now, if only I didn;t have to get every pair of jeans I owned hemmed - life would be grand. What designer decided that the majority of size 2 woman are 6'0" ??

I love Paper, Denim, and Cloth and Seven for All Mankind. I wear my jeans all the time, so I can justify the high price tag to DH. Like babylove, I am short (5'3) and I have to get my jeans hemmed, but it is worth it to actually get jeans that fit right.
GAP Long and Leans! Love them. A problem I have, though, is that I'm *almost* too tall for the regular length (I'm 5'7") but the long length is too long for me. Where do you go to get it hemmed for not too much $$?
I tried on some Citizens jeans once and they fit me weird. My body issue is that I have a small waist and larger thighs so if the jeans fit on my legs/butt, they gap a bunch in the back and you can see my underwear. But if they fit in the waist they're WAY too tight in the legs. Ugh! So frustrating.
Recently I've gotten a couple pairs on eBay which is great for casual jeans. Can't beat the prices!
Rose ~ Yuppers. I just have them hemmed. I found a tailor who can hem them and then replace the original hem so I don't have that "hemmed" look, KWIM? It's only $10.
I was wondering about this too but you answered my question. I'll have to check them out. :)
Lately I've been wearing alot of Luckys. I do have some Sevens already. I want to try the paper cloth and denim and the COH.

I have the same problem. I'm only 5'3", but very small and all pants are too long (and ankle length is too short-go figure!). It drives me crazy that I have to hem all my pants or just step on the heels.

The answer to that is: in my experience, none. Sigh.
I am a size 2-4 in jeans, and they are NEVER long enough for me (I am 5'10", with a 33 inch inseam). No regular length is long enough -- not Sevens (esp. since all my pairs have shrunk in the wash and are now an inch shorter than they were when I bought them), not COH (well, barely), and definitely not Lucky. I always have to go with longer-length or else get the hems let out. It's so hard to have jeans hems look normal once they've been let out. And if I want to wear heels with jeans...forget it. It looks like I'm wearing cropped pants.
The only jeans I've really had luck with have been JCrew denim and Sisley. Oh and I have a pair of stretch Levis. They work well for me :)

I have bad luck buying jeans - I am 5'3", so I am too tall for petites, and usually too short for regulars. I have really taken a liking to some Calvin Klein jeans lately - I bought a couple pairs because they fit so well (and put one pair away!).
I also walked into Target the other day and bought a pair that fit perfect on the first try. I actually smiled - who knew?

I wear Miss Sixty Tommy cut:
http://www.smartbargains.com/images/product/105826/1058261495_LG.jpg
On sale on Smartbargains.com right now for $49.99! That's an excellent price!
I also have to have all my jeans hemmed. I think it's bc they are sold by waist size so a 5'10 model with a 26" waist basically wears jeans that long...
I love my James jeans. However, I had to get them hemmed (they kept the original hemline intact). I also were Diesel.
It's really hard to find jeans that fit me. I have a small waist, but I'm hippy.
A lot of people seem to like Sevens. I couldn't even get them past my hips!
LOVE COH! I also have a great pair of jeans by Blujeanious. Originally way overpriced in NYC, I found them in a small suburban boutique for $50. Now you can find them in Filenes Basement!

I love Sevens, Abercrombie, and American Eagle. I had never tried American Eagle jeans until the other day... they are GREAT! My sevens were wearing thin b/c I wore them literally every day... so I needed a cheaper alternative, AE did the trick! And Abercrombie jeans have always fit me well. I dont know how they manage to make a jean/pant that looks good on almost every body type. :)

Gap bootcut jeans work for me right now. I usually buy the stretch jeans, since it's hard to find the right jeans for my frame b/c I have a 23" waist and hips. BTW, I need at least jeans with a 34" inseam. I usually have to try on 5-6 pairs before finding one that fits.

I'm not much of a shopper, especially when it comes to looking for jeans because they never seem to fit me right.

I'm not sure about if they still do, but Levis used to customize your jeans to your exact measurments. They are special order . From what I remember, they costs about $80.00 (Don't quote me on that!)
Lands End does the same thing too.
I hear even Target is doing it too!
As for the Seven Jeans and Citizens I would go to the higher end stores like Nordstroms to see if they carry those....
islandgirlsj - I'm not sure if they are in your area, but Bloomingdales, Saks, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom carry COH and Sevens. I have bought mine at boutiques as well (Scoop in NYC), so I would check those places. Good luck!

islandgirlsj, I've found blue cult at Saks. Several online boutiques carry them (including shopbop.com and revolveclothing.com, to throw out a couple names).

My very favorite jeans that aren't all that stylish but man they fit well and they're comfortable, are by Style & Co... a 'house brand' at Macy's. The weird thing is that I bought them when I was a size 22, then I bought another pair when I was size 12, and a third pair now that I'm a size 6... and at each size, they fit great. I am short and have no hips (and no waist  ), and for some reason, that's what works on my body, so I'm stickin' with it.

I'm trying to be a good girl and avoiding trying on Sevens/COH for this very reason! ;) I'm not sure exactly, but I think I wear low-rise, boot cut jeans from Old Navy. Yes, and I believe so, yes - though I haven't seen the ones at Lane Bryant in person, I saw the poster in the window recently & it's the same logo. It looks like this company has made a deal w/ LB to release "plus size" versions exclusively for them. But don't quote me on that, it's just an educated guess.
I believe someone on this board works for LB corporate, so maybe she'll see this thread and share any info she may have.

ITA!!!! It is so frustrating! I have to wait a week at the least, before I can actually wear the jeans I buy! boo! heh heh
I have about 10 pair of jeans and they are all by different makers. (I guess I'm not that brand-loyal. lol.)
Beau Dawson is a brand that I haven't seen mentioned here. I have 2 pairs of their jeans and they are both totally different and both fit well. ( I like when designers can make totally different 'types' of jeans if you know what I mean)
I also just recently purchased jeans at Nordstrom's big Annual Sale by Tahari. I am excited to wear them, but alas, need them hemmed. boo! They fit really well and even DH said 'Wow, those are cute!' Which he almost never says about jeans (or anything besides dresses really, heh heh)
The jeans I have been wearing most often are Jeans I found at Macy's by

The jeans I like the least are Lucky's . The pair I have never seems to fit me correctly, even thought I keep giving them a chance. ;)

Now the Sevens everyone is talking about are the Seven for all Mankind?

They're not the same company. The jeans that are commonly referred to as "Sevens" are "Seven for all Mankind" and the ones at Lane Bryant are Seven7. I saw something with Kimberly Locke from American Idol and she was the spokesmodel for the jeans and they were called "Seven Seven" jeans in all the press.
A few years back, Express was selling these same "Seven" jeans and a lawsuit ensued from the makers of SFAMK because of alleged trademark violation. It was and is pretty confusing. I remember that they even printed on the shelves at Express "No affiliation with Seven For All Mankind" when they were selling their "Seven" jeans. Express doesnt' sell them anymore, and I'm guessing it's because of the lawsuits. Dunno how Lane Bryant got the go-ahead to use the name, but it's obvious it's still causing a lot of confusion.
laura

Actually in this article I found, it claims the reverse - basically that Seven for All Mankind ripped off the Seven7 logo - but I agree it is very confusing and it looks as though they are definitely not affiliated. It's long, but here it is:
Los Angeles Business Journal
Jan 27, 2003
by Deborah Belgum
The Seven jeans line is adding up to nothing but legal troubles.
The L.A.-based label has been torn apart as three different business entities are fighting over the brand, which has pulled in $73 million in sales over the past two years.
The cast of characters includes some of the city's most seasoned apparel makers, each claiming a piece of the firm.
Isn't this the nastiest little tale you've ever heard? said Lonnie Kane, a long-time apparel manufacturer who is president of Karen Kane Inc., a women's sportswear line based in Vernon.
The problems started nearly three years ago when two apparel business veterans, Michael Glasser and Jerome Dahan, approached Peter Koral, owner of 20-year-old Vernon sportswear company, L'Koral Industries. They wanted to start a jeans line that would be well made, comfortable and fashionable. But they also would be expensive, selling for $100 to $160 a pair.
A venture was formed in April 2000 to create the Seven jeans line, now called Seven For All Mankind. They soon made their way to tony stores like Barneys. New York, Fred Segal Santa Monica and Neiman Marcus.
Koral has one of the largest knitting factories in the area. Known by business contacts as a shrewd businessman and risk taker, he is not, however, comfortable with the marketing and design side of the business.
That's where Glasser and Dahan came in.
Dahan is known for his creativity and designing prowess. After a nine-year stint with Lucky Brand Dungarees, he left to team up with Glasser on the Seven venture.
Glasser is the salesman of the three. A New York native, he started an apparel company in 1990 called Democracy before later having a falling out with his partner, Marty Brander.
Glasser said they hit upon the name Seven because his son was born 7/17/87 and weighed seven pounds, seven ounces. Koral's son, a high school football player at the time, wore the number seven on his jersey.
According to court documents, an oral agreement was made that Koral would finance the operation, having a 50 percent stake. Dahan and Glasser would provide the expertise for the other 50 percent of the business, working out of Koral's facilities rent-free in Vernon.
Spinoff claimed
The three agreed that once Seven jeans generated $12 million in revenue, Koral would put up another $4 million for the operation to be spun off into a separate company with separate facilities, according to court papers.
The line was launched in September 2000. By 2001 the partners sold $13 million in blue jeans and other related items such as jean jackets, tops and denim skirts, Glasser said.
As 2002 waned, the popular and sexy jeans were being worn by Cameron Diaz, Tyra Banks and Kate Hudson. Glasser and Dahan claimed in court papers that the line had generated $20 million in profits.
They also contend that when asked for their share, Koral said it wasn't available. He claimed Seven lost $1.5 million in 2001 and that the 2002 profits were plowed back into the business, according to court papers.
Glasser and Dahan filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court in September, accusing Koral of using the profits to finance his moderate sportswear line, which they claim wasn't making money. They also accuse him of spending money on personal expenses, the documents said, and are asking for $20 million in damages.
Koral was out of town when contacted last week. His assistant, Lynne Hosken, said her boss would have no comment on the lawsuit and allegations.
The complaint is utterly without merit, said attorney Lisa Jacobsen, whose law firm of Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger represents Koral and his company.
Glasser and Dahan have pulled up their stakes, moving out of Koral's facilities in Vernon and into office space they are sharing with one of their apparel contractors. But they still consider themselves partners with Koral in the Seven venture, Glasser said.
Meanwhile, the two jeans makers are developing a line they plan to call Citizens of Humanity. We will launch in February in New York and are already taking orders from stores in Europe, Canada and Japan, Glasser said, adding that they are talking to an entertainment industry entrepreneur to provide the financial backing.
But the Seven tale of litigation doesn't end there.
Gerard Guez, chairman of L.A.-based Tarrant Apparel Group, one of L.A.'s largest clothing manufacturers, is embroiled in a legal dispute with Koral and his partners. Guez owns Seven Licensing Co., which acquired the rights to a French jeans label that has existed for decades called Seven7.
French apparel manufacturer Maurice Ohayon acquired the licensing rights to the line in 1998 and started shipping the denims that sell for $100 to $300 to the United States.
Cease and desist
After seeing Koral's Seven label in U.S. stores, Ohayon sent several cease and desist documents to Koral and his partners informing them they were violating the Frenchman's Seven7 trademark and asked them to stop manufacturing under the Seven label, according to court documents. But nothing happened.
After Guez acquired the U.S. rights last June, Ohayon and Guez talked with the manufacturers of Seven For All Mankind about resolving the name issue but nothing came out of it.
A month later, the three Koral partners filed suit in federal court against Ohayon and Guez, claiming they were trying to unfairly capitalize on their success using false trademark claims.
Ohayon and Guez countersued in December saying that Seven For All Mankind infringed on their trademark. They are asking for $10 million in statutory damages and $20 million in punitive damages.
This is a story that lawyers love, Kane said. They're about the only people who are going to make money on this.

I only wear the Express lowcut flare-leg short jeans. They are just slightly too long, which is how I like them for the big boots I wear to work. I need about a 26-27" inseam, I have little hobbit legs. My legs are so short that capris usually fit me like normal pants.
Plus my waist is really small and my butt is really big. I've never found a pair of jeans that doesn't gap in the rear of the waistband, but these gap the least of any I've worn.

Gap's new "curvy" jeans are supposed to eliminate that gapping problem, but the downside is they are very long. I usually wear "regular" but they are way too long on me. I will either have to roll them or order the shorter length online.

I love my Seven and Paper Denim & Cloth jeans. They "dress up" really well and always make me feel like I look good.
However, I just bought a pair of jeans at Express for $40 (soooo cheap!) because they were really comfortable and looked great. And I won't feel guilty if I want to move furniture or do some gardening in them. :p

I have a hard time finding jeans that fit me. I LOVE Lucky Brand jeans, though. I am only 5' 4 1/2" andI run and my legs are a little more muscular than the "norm" in the thigh area and they make these jeans called boyfriend jeans. I LOVE THEM!
I also just got a pair of Sacred Blues. I had to have them taken up, but they're really comfortable.
And last, but not least...I like my Express Editor Pants (which are really jeans).

I have a great pair of COH that I love, and a pair of bebe stretch jeans that are super-comfortable. Unfortunately, neither fit me now that I've dropped 2 sizes.
I am now completely *in love* with GAP's Curvy jeans. I have never worn a pair of jeans that fit so well and were so damn comfortable. The *long* is perfect length for me, and they look really, really good. ;)

Kd, where did you get your Paige jeans and about how much were the? Also, when you take your jeans to the tailor, do they put the original hem back on them? I have them do it to mine and it looks great but it's expensive. Almost all my jeans that I buy I have to have them taken up and I have the original hem put back on and it's $16.00 a pair ....which isn't that much but when you have about 15 or so pairs of jeans, it gets to be pricey.

Renee - I got them at a small boutique here in NYC (it's called Olive & Bette's). Yes, I asked the tailor to put the original hem back on. I went to a tailor that the boutique recommended so they do a lot of that "special" hemming. Unfortunately, it was $18 for the hem - which stinks, since the jeans are expensive enough before alterations (I think I paid $175). But, I only have two or three $$$ jeans and I don't alter the less expensive ones (simply because I can usually find them in an appropriate length for my bod).
When I had my Sevens hemmed it was about $15 and it wasn't a "perfect" job (though only I can tell) so I figured that for $3 more I'll go with the reputable tailor this time around.
Oh, the expense we go to for beauty and fashion!

Just got a pair of Red Engine jeans...love them. Long length, a little bit of stretch...the perfect jean. And they were under $120.
After a year of looking for a pair jeans that fit me (I'm 5'2" with small waist and big butt and thighs) I finally found a pair that I love! Lucky Brand- Easy Rider. The length is good the Regular are long enough to wear with the big boots that I wear all winter long and the short are short enough to wear with flats. They are a little expensive, but well worth it! I'm am going to back to buy more this weekend.

I knocked off work early on Friday to hit Marshall Field's for a good serious jeans search. I must have tried on every brand: 7 for All Mankind, COH, Antik Denim, Paper Cloth and Denim, but the ones that fit me best by far were Joe's. I'm a size 10-12 in most clothes and was trying on a 32 waist in all brands. The Joe's were less tight than all the others and didn't have those weird creases at the crotch. I really liked them. Of course I had to get them hemmed and it costs $25 to have the original hem put back on, but when you are spending $200+ on a pair of jeans, what's another $25. And, BTW, I still haven't told my husband about them.

Lately I've been buying Old Navy jeans because they're cheap and I tend to ruin things easily. I've also found a couple of LEI jeans and one pair at Nordstrom Rack that I can't recall, but look like slacks but are denim.

I've always found that problem with Gap jeans. If I play Goldilocks and take 3 pairs into the dressing room (all the same size), one is too big, one is too small, and one is just right. I'm a size 8/10. My college roomate was a size 4 and she commented the same thing, completely independently of my observation.

A sales guy at Express (consider the source) told me that Gap jeans have inconsistent sizing because they cut a big stack of fabric at one. The fabric on the bottom doesn’t end up being the same size as the top.

I just tried the Gap curvy jeans and yet again they aren't "curvy" enough. BY the time I find a pair big enough for my hips and butt, the waistband gaps in the back and you can see all of my underwear.
Still the only thing that fits me is made by Express. I got the W31s, on sale for $29.50, this weekend. The ankle length are still too long, but I can make them work with super-high boots or platform shoes.

greenbunny, I might have solution for you. I have a couple of pairs of jeans that I just love but they did the same thing at the waist band. I bought the jeans and brought them to my tailor, all they have to do is take them in at the waist band in the back and they are perfect. It only costs about $8 to $10, if you find a pair of jeans you love except for the waist, it's worth the money to just bring them to a tailor.

In my experience, the Long and Leans don’t get any smaller. In fact, they tend to stretch out after you wear them a couple of hours. Mine are snug when I buy them, and then they stretch out. If the stretch out too much I put them in the dryer, and they go back to the size they were when I bought them.

Yep, I just got a pair and love 'em! Also had to get about a foot taken off -- I'm 5'2" and these jeans were evidently made for Heidi Klum. ;) Anyway, they are low on the hips, fit great through the thighs and have teeny little pockets that don't bunch. They're my new favorite "fancy" jeans!
Speaking of which, does anyone know how the "fancy" jeans sizes (25, 26, 27, 28 etc.) correspond to "real" sizes? I'm always confused by that.

I also love my COH jeans and Joe's Jeans in the Honey style.
Question about Gap Long and Lean Jeans: How much do they stretch out after wearing them the whole day? I have two pairs of Gap jeans that I don't really wear anymore because they tend to stretch out so much.
Wanted to stop by and sing the praises of my latest jean purchase: Rock and Republic Roth Style in Wicked Raw Wash (dark with frayed edging}.
Here's a pic of the back pocket:
http://www.neimanmarcus.com/products/zp/NMT0DZG_zp.jpg
Love them! Normally I'm not a fan of the crystal accents on the back pockets but these look so great and I just love the overall look of the back pockets. These jeans are to die for. They make your legs look a mile long (I'm already pretty tall but everyone wants to be taller, right? :D ). Bought them at Nordstrom's so the alterations (unfortunately I'm not 6'0) are pretty cheap.
So if anyone is looking for a new pair of jeans, I HIGHLY recommend checking these out.

I can't believe I completely forgot about my own thread! ...
Lilo, those are seriously cute! Normally I wouldn't want a lot of accents like that either, but those are just too good to pass up.
And to answer your previous questions about the L&Ls... with me I don't feel like they stretch much while wearing them. I have noticed the inconsistency with sizing from one pair to another however - I can't just go in the store and grab my size, I have to try each pair on to make sure it will fit. Kind of annoying...

I just went jean shopping and came home with a pair of heels.
I didn't think I had fat thighs until I tried on some designer jeans. Everything seemed tight in the thigh, yet big everywhere else. I've been wearing my Sevens (boycut), Diesel and I have some jeans from Banana Republic that I like.
Today I tried on True Religion, Rock & Republic, Citizens (Ingrid), James cured. The James were the least awful, but still awful. Granted, I had a baby 4 mths ago, but most of my old clothes fit. I thought my thighs were average and my ass is okay too.
Anyone else have thigh issues with designer jeans? What brand/style did you finally find that worked? TIA

Don't feel too bad. Lots of women have issues with thighs fitting into designer jeans (I think there was a whole thread about it). Nothing fit me right, and I would spend days at a time trying to find a pair that fit. It's completely frustrating, especially when you aren't big. I finally found a great pair - Joe's Jeans - Honey style. They fit great, and are one of the few pairs of jeans cut for a "woman's body" (as the boutique owner told me).

surftraitor - Don't feel bad, I am finding the same thing now, about jeans fitting tightly in the thigh. And I lost weight! Thing is, I run pretty regularly now, so my legs are more muscley than they were. So frustrating! My jeans are tight in the thigh, then super loose in the calves.

Chefker- I wear Gap Long and Lean!!! I LOVE them, you should completely try them. They are really durable and the washes are nice, different colors; plus they are long enough (hence the name) but without being too long. I hate how some jeans look so tight up top then go on for days (makes me look disproportionate). Long and Leans are generally pretty relaxed and comfy without being too baggy. If want something with a higher rise, their boot cut jeans are similar to L&L but come up closer to your natural waist.

I haven't bought any SFAM since the prices went up, but I figured I was always buying cheaper jeans in search of a great fit, and they were always stretching or shrinking or generally falling apart. I'd rather have one pair of really great jeans that holds up and fits perfectly, than 3 or 4 pairs of Gap jeans that aren't as well made and don't fit as well.

After two horrible experiences with GAP jeans, I can honestly say I'll never waste my money on another pair again.
Both times, the jeans actually frayed away, leaving giant holes in the jeans that were beyond patching up.
The holes appeared in the inner thighs, where they rub together and I only had the jeans for 3 months! I've NEVER had that happen with any other pair of jeans I've ever owned and I'm not overweight either (I weigh 130 lbs).
What a disappointment. No more GAP jeans for me. EVER!

I always wondered how regular people could spend so much money on jeans. I guess it really depends on your lifestyle. If I had a full-time, 5 day per week job where I could not wear jeans, I wouldn't buy expensive jeans since I would only get 1-2 wears out of them per week. But since I only work 2-3 days per week, I spend the rest of my days in jeans. EVERY day that I am not at work I am in jeans, maybe with the exception of Sunday. So for my lifestyle, it makes sense to have a good pair because I'll get so much use out of them.
(And if my memory serves me well, you're an RN too, so you likely have more days off in your week due to shift work - love those 12 hours shifts!)
Also I totally agree with everyone who says it makes more sense than buying multiple pairs of cheap jeans. Last year I purchased 3 pairs of DKNY Soho jeans because they felt so great when I tried them on. But the "stretch" gave a little too much, they were snug when I put them on in the morning, but by the afternoon, they were falling down. That was $150 down the drain.
I was browsing at Nordstrom the other day and watched a woman purchase 5 pairs of Seven jeans and 2 pairs of Lucky jeans. I'll never understand how you could spend well over $1,000 in JEANS in one day, or how you could get all that much use out of 7 pairs of jeans. I was even more amazed that she did all that shopping and was able to try stuff on with a toddler!

A good pair of designer jeans that look great, make you feel great, and won't fall apart is WELL worth the $150-$250. For something you wear everyday it pays for itself in spades. Like a few of the PP's, it's better to have 1 or 2 really well-made, flattering jeans than 4 or 5 mediocre or cheap jeans.
I can understand for someone who doesn't wear jeans every day, but even then, isn't it worth it to splurge on something that makes you look GREAT!?
A good pair of jeans can make an AMAZING difference in your figure and your self-esteem. (in my humble opinion)
And my FAVES are Seven, Citizen, and Juicy. Won't wear anything else. Just try on a pair and I SWEAR you will see the difference!! =-)

I have to agree with some of the above posters. Sure, if Gap or ON jeans fit me well and had washes I liked, I would LOVE to buy cheaper jeans! But, they just don't. So one day I decided to go into the expensive jean store in the mall and try some on...and I liked them! Honestly, I do feel embarassed to have them b/c they are so expensive and it seems like a waste. I do still try on cheaper jeans, and if I liked them I would happily buy them and wear them. I have a pair of the new Express jeans that I think are cute and really look 'designer'.
I started out 3-4 years ago with a pair of Citizens. I still wear those A LOT. I have 2 pairs of Citizens and 1 pair of Sevens. And really, those are the only jeans I really wear. I was in school when I got these, so I did wear them everyday! I usually buy like one pair a year, or ask for them as a birthday or Christmas present.
I was going to tell you to try some on, but you would probably want them if you did!

Well, maybe if I could get my *ss into a pair of Sevens I might feel differently. ;) But honestly, I've tried a large range of jeans, and Gap works the best for me. The more expensive ones might hold up longer, but I have several pairs that I've had for over a year, and they're still in good shape.
I think the key to buying jeans is just to find what works for you and fits your body. That may be the expensive, trendy jeans, or it may be cheaper ones. As far as jeans stretching out, most jeans with stretch do that (I've read Joe's do this, and they are NOT cheap). I think maybe buying them a little snug will ensure they're not too big when they stretch out during the day. That's my guess, anyway--I'm going to test my theory the next time I buy jeans, which won't be for a while (hopefully). :)

WOW, I never considered a $75 pair of Gap jeans to be "cheap jeans." I've always worn Gap jeans and I only had one a pair fall apart on me and that's because I wore the heck out of them for years. Last year the fashion section of our local paper had an article about designer jeans falling apart and company that specialized in jean repair. If I can find the article I'll post it. The only thing I don't like about my Gap jeans is that the color fades really quickly. Does designer jeans retain their color better?

I don't really think that Gap jeans are cheap, but they're definitely cheaper than designer jeans! I wash mine inside out and that seems to help with the fading. You can also add white vinegar to the wash--that's supposed to help the color stay true if you do it the first time you wash them.

I guess I consider Gap jeans cheap because I rarely paid full price for them; never more than $50. Old Navy denim, which I also had a problem with, is pretty undeniable as being "cheap".
I find that my SFAM do hold their color better than mainstream, mall-store denim. I have one pair of SFAM that I got about a year ago, and I'm just starting to see some fading. Nothing terribly noticeable to the naked eye, but I know that they're slightly lighter than when I first got them.
My biggest problem with a lot of mainstream denim is that the fit models have super-long torsos, making the rise uncomfortably high on me. DD typically has a lower rise, meaning on my super-short waisted body, it looks (and feels) about average.

I desperately need some jeans help. Spent a large amount of time yesterday at Saks, trying on jeans. Honestly, it was like I was magically gaining weight in the dressing room. But, onto the real issue.
Can someone recommend jeans that aren't super low-rise?? I tried on Seven's (the New York style was just about perfect, but that orange stitching was foul), True Religion, Genetics, Joe's, Paige, Citizens and some others I had never even heard of. But, the overwhelming problem was that they *ALL* hit just below my hipbone. Is there anything made today that isn't a "mom jean" that is right at or just slightly above the hipbone?? I have no issue with cost - I just want something that is comfortable and looks decent.

I have really good luck with Tommy Hilfiger boyfriend cut jeans. They stay far from the belly button, but don't show off the butt crack and hip bones :D And as a bonus, if you have really long legs they have long inseams. (the short length on me only works if I've got at least some rise in my shoes. gotta love having shorty pants legs  )

Honestly, my Levi's have the perfect rise to me. They hit *just* below the belly button. I know Levi's aren't fancy or expensive, but IMO you don't have to buy fancy or expensive to get a good fit. I haven't owned a pair of jeans that fit that well in years. And I hate buying jeans. I wear business casual M-F, so I don't have a lot of opportunities to wear jeans anyway.
And no, Gap jeans are not cheap. There are plenty of jeans that are more expensive, but $75 is not cheap. However, I haven't worn Gap or ON jeans in several years because the fit is so odd. Everything seems to be super low rise.

My Miss Sixty Tommy cuts are above my hip bones. Actually most of my Miss Sixties are just below the belly button. I also have a pair of D&Gs that are above the hip bone. I'd say midway btwn hip bone and belly button.

My favorite brand of jeans is Silver (http://www.buckle.com/product/product.jsp?bmUID=1184620969815&Ne=2&Ns=P_Inventory%7c1&N=43+23+146). I can buy them in 35" length! Their fit is really great for me.

The logic of getting 1 or 2 pairs of designer jeans because you wear them a lot is totally lost on me. I don't want to be doing wash four times a week. I'd much rather get Express jeans and have enough to last me until laundry day.

I only wash my jeans every few times that I wear them. I thought that was the point of denim way back when... it holds up and doesn't need constant washing. Plus I don't want the fit and fade to change too much (and they will with constant washing).

ditto this. My jeans get washed every few times.
And...I think the issue of whether 75 dollars is "cheap" or not has to do with your buying preferences/history. I consider $75 for jeans (these days) to be cheap. Maybe that's because the other day I was at a local boutique and tried on a pair of jeans without looking at the tag. They were o.k. nothing special. Had a bit of detailing on them just below the waist that I didn't like, but i thought I 'might' buy them. So, I go and look at the price tag. $425 dollars! No I am not kidding! For JEANS! I don't get easily surprised by prices but Wowsa- that one really threw me for a loop!

My new favorite jeans are the ones I bought at Banana Republic this weekend. I'm short and the length on them is perfect and they make my ass look great. I'm new to this thread so I've only read the last page of posts. I don't think $75 is cheap for jeans. The ones I just bought are regular priced $69. The were on sale for half off. I actually like the way jeans stretch out during the day. I also only wash my jeans every second or third time I wear them and I think they fit better on the second wearing. I buy the smallest size I can comfortably get into to allow for the stretch. I also wash them inside out and never dry them completely in the dryer. So, I've not had any issues with fading/shrinking/ripping with any of my cheap jeans and I've had a couple of pairs for 3 or more years. All of my jeans are either ON, BR, Express, Gap, or AE and I never pay regular price for them. THAT'S too expensive for me. I've been tempted to try on designer jeans, but I can't afford to get attached :o.

I only have one pair of mega-pricey jeans and rarely wear them due to the ultra-low rise issue. My husband, the proud new owner of his first pair of pricey jeans nearly passed out when the sales clerk rang them up. He is generally a Levi's guy who buys his jeans at Sams Club or BJ's. He has also been threatened to within an inch of his life if he wears the new jeans to muck around in the yard.
My own personal favorites were (and still are) the Levi's that are carried by Target. Price is approximately $20 a pair. However, I cannot find anyone who carries this particular style in a 4 long. The smallest long size is 8, and that is gigantic on me. Gap jeans are fine in the length of the leg, but the inseam is too short. Same with Banana and Old Navy.
I'm still looking for my perfect pair of jeans.

After swearing off Gap jeans for awhile, I just bought 2 pairs of Gap 'boyfriend' jeans on sale for $29.99 each. For the moment, that is what I am wearing most. I like the fit/rise, and they do not show my crack when I bend over, which is what I was looking for. Plus I figured for $29, if they wear out in a year, so what. But they are my 'wear w/ flip flops' jeans - I have different trouser style jeans from BR for heels/work, but I don't think they make that cut anymore which is annoying.

Mavi jeans are designer jeans that you can get mid-rise. They are between $80-90 making them less expensive than Sevens but more expensive than Gap or Levis. I buy mine at a boutique. They have a stretchy jean material and regular jean material. I prefer the regular jean material.
I have two pairs of Citizens that I really love. I also bought a pair of Hudson jeans recently that I love too. Very comfy and just the right amount of stretch.

I have a pair of Citizens and I love them too. I've tried on Paiges that I loved as well...also Levi's has a style that is a little more expensive, Swank I believe was the style name and the price is approximately $170. Anyway, I tried them on at Anthropologie and they fit me really well.
Anyone waiting for Nordstrom's sale this Friday? They should have some newer stuff (including denim) out that is on temporary mark downs.

Any suggestions for what I think are called "trouser" jeans? I really like the look of them. I currently wear Joes Muse jeans and love the midrise, so am looking for something that is not terribly low cut!

I recently bought a new brand of jeans from Nordstrom, and I love them!! One of the best features is that they are not super low rise, just a regular comfortable rise. The brand is called Kut from the Kloth. I bought 3 pairs: jeans, jean capris, and jean bermuda shorts, and I love them all. Price is not too bad either, in my opinion. I think the jeans were about $70. Also, I know Nordstrom is getting ready to have a big sale - I think the Kut from the Kloth jeans are going to be about $50 on sale. If you have a Nordstrom by you, you should definitely check these out!
