Does anyone remember a movie called "The Red Room"?

It's a movie that I remember seeing as a child, and it scared the crud out of me, and I've been wanting to see it again. I believe after doing some searching that it is based on "The Red Room" by HG Wells. I just remember something about a winding staircase that that led to a door, that when you opened it, everything in the room, from top to bottom, wall to wall, was decorated in red. And if I remember correctly, the room was haunted or something? It probably came out in the late 80's to early 90's, but I very vividly remember the details about the stairs and the room being all red. If anyone recognizes this, you'd be a huge help!

I think know what you are talking about. I remember being totally scared by a movie about a red room. At the time my room was pink and I didn't want to sleep in it. It would have been in the very early 80s, like 80-82.

I don't remember anything else about it, so I'm not much help. I was probably only 5 or 6 at the time and my parents were very careful about what I watched on tv, so I think it would have been a scary movie specifically for kids, and not like an R rated movie or anything.

At least I know I'm not crazy having this memory! LOL I keep trying to search for it, but no such luck. I almost wonder if it was like some sort of like "goosebumps" type thing...now I really want to find it! LOL

Question: I remember as a kid in the '80s there was a Saturday morning tv movie show for kids. And it showed a movie my sister and I always looked forward to. I think it was called Red Room, and all I remember is a scary, haunted-type house that had a room all done in red. No one else I know remembers this movie. Is this something that I made up or do I have a better memory than my childhood counterparts? If it is real, can I buy or rent this movie anywhere? — Haunted

The Red Room Riddle (1983), a ghost story, was shown as part of The ABC Weekend Special, an irregular series that debuted in 1977 with a mission to introduce children to literature. It was adapted from a young-adult novel of the same name by the popular and prolific Scott Corbett, many of whose books had a mystery or supernatural aspect. The bad news is that it's not a feature-length movie — it's only 24 minutes long — and it's not available commercially. I have, however, run across a couple of online references to public lending libraries having copies in their rent collections. This suggests to me that at one time it must have been made available to libraries and other educational institutions, so that's where I'd suggest you look.
