View Full Version : At what point of dilation did you lose the mucus plug?

My DH asked me this question today and it completely stumped me, so now I'm asking you. :)

I am currently 3+ cm dilated (and have been at least 2 cm dilated for 5 weeks) and my DH asked whether that meant that I'd already lost the plug (I'll skip the TMI details, but it's entirely possible I lost it (without knowing) while in the hospital being monitored for preterm labor).

So, if you lost your mucus plug, were you dilated at the time? If so, how much?

At my appointment last Wednesday I was still 2 cm and have since lost my plug.

Apparently I lost it when I was already in labor at the hospital. I went in at 1cm and the next day I delivered our DD. A lot of women lose it during delivery and don't even know when it's lost. I remember a post on the WC where a mom had written that it came out on her baby's head. :p :)

Mine didn't want to leave. I'd been in labor about 18 hours, on Pitocin for 11 of those hours, before my doc stripped my membranes and scooped the plug out. I was at 4 cm.

I lost mine when my water broke, about 2 hours later I was at 4cm (no idea what I was before that, I had no internals until I was in labor). I could have been at 3 for weeks or I could have been at 0 when my water broke, but sometime between 0-4cm it came out. Very obviously ;)

I don't recall losing my plug!

Lost a bit a few weeks before I went into labor with DD. (no internal)
Lost the rest right after my water broke the morning I went into labor. 1 cm dilated.

I was kind of curious about this, since its come up in the August mommies thread. I'm at 1cm right now, and don't recall having lost it, so I was wondering if that was possible.

I lost it when my water broke. I have no idea how dialated I was. It was early and we were FREAKED out. Honestly, I am not sure I was dialated at all if that is even possible to lose it and not be dialated.

I was 5 cm's & 80% effaced when I checked into the hospital and I still had it. So it must've come out sometime during L&D.

I was at 2cm.

I started losing it when I was 2cm - but nothing terribly exciting ever came of it. I officially "lost it" after my Dr. broke my water in the hospital during my induction.

I was 0cm when I lost mine. I had some very light contractions and noticed it.

With the first, I was between 1.5 and 2 cm when I lost my plug at 35 weeks. My water broke less than a week later.

With this baby, I haven't lost it yet. I'm 34 weeks and delivered DS at 36 weeks, so I expect to see the plug any day now.

Here's something interesting: My doctor told me that most women don't actually experience the loss of their mucus plug (or not noticeably, anyway)...he said it's one of those things that the books talk a lot about, but not normally the event it's made out to be.

I don't think I lost mine (at least not that I can remember), but I was dilated to 4cm for weeks and if it did come out it was at the very end (I had DS at 41w 1d).

I was at almost 1cm. Induced 2 wks later.

With DS: Lost it at 0cm, no labor, had to be induced

With DD: lost it at 2 cm, walked around that way for a week, went into labor own my own

I was 2 cm, my water broke 5 hrs. later.

I did not lose it with DS.

With DD I lost it a few weeks before delivery, so I wasn't dialated then.

I was 1-2 cm and about 36 weeks. I went into labor on my own at 37 1/2 weeks.

With DD I'm not sure. OB never said if it was there or not. If I hadn't lost it prior to my water breaking, I'm sure it was gone then as the nurses said it wasn't there when I was checked. I was 3 cm when I was admitted.

With DS I started losing a little at 33/34 wks (but didn't realize it). I continued to lose it until I lost the remaining of it at 36 wks. DS was born the following week. At 35 wks I was 2 cm dilated and continued to dilate a little at each visit.

I lost my entire mucus plug at 34 weeks, even though I wasn't dilated at all. I gave birth on my due date (40w0d). Go figure.

I believe I've lost a portion of mine. I'm currently 33 weeks with no contractions, but Friday I think I lost some of it according to the description of what it would be like.

Anyone want to share what their mucus plug looked like? LOL Odd question but I think I lost some at 3am. Maybe a quarter size of it. I didn't touch it so I have no idea if it was stringy but it was def. mucus-y. However, it had a yellow color to it and my books say it should be clear, white or have some bloody tinge to it.

I'm 39 weeks and 5 days so I'm ready for something to happen!

Ok well, I just answered my own question... I just went to the bathroom and there was no mistaking it...my mucus plug just officially fell out!!! Oh man...here's hoping I go into labor soon.

eta-- Last week i was 1cm and 50% effaced. I go to the doctor tomorrow.

0, I think I was 38 weeks. I was induced at 41.

I was 40 weeks 2 days (but if you go by my old EDD I was 40 weeks) which is when I just started to dilate about 1 cm and the ENTIRE thing fell out in one big clump, it was sooooooooo gross and freaked me out I woke DH up freaking out. Anyways I went into full fledge labor that morning.
