But our bank doesn't send our cancelled checks, just a page of tiny photocopies, and I couldn't see sometimes due to the graphics, so now we have plain old blue safety...

Mine's pretty simple, I'm not interested in cutesy pictures or anything like that. But I wanted something other than the standard issue checks, so I got these:

Not at all! I have those and LOVE them. I have been a huge Hello Kitty fan since I was a kid. I don't write checks often, but having cute checks makes it more enjoyable when I do! And DH never writes checks, so there was no issue there.

Oh, if you're thinking about ordering, Checks in the Mail has a great "value" pack with a box of Hello Kitty checks, address labels, and a checkbook cover. It's not a bad price for all you get.

Come to think of it, I did notice that whichever company I used last time had problems being "read" at one particular company's stores' computer and they'd have to input the info manually. No other companies had that problem, just that one company - nearly every store I went to (but not all), couldn't electronically read my checking info when I'd go in to pay my bill. But only there. Very odd.

Katy: Did you have any metallic accents on your checks? My mom had the same problem with a batch of checks and her bank said that sometimes the metallic accents can throw off the computer's "eye" while trying to read it. She had a silver monogram and line across the top of her checks

Petdoc, I honestly don't remember. We only use checks to pay bills (and the dog's boarding) so I would only order a box every 2 years or so. They very well could have since I've ordered "pretty" checks in the past.

I'm glad this thread got bumped up though. We have free checks for life through our bank, but of course, that doesn't include duplicate checks and I seem to be just lost without those copies :o So a new order is needed.
