Ladies with wall letters...how big did you get them?

I'm thinking 10" but I really have no idea what height looks right and all of yours looks good...

also, those who attach the ribbon...how do you do that?

Thanks!

Alexis

We got 6 inch, and they're plenty big. The pottery barn I do letters that you see are 10 inchers.

As for attaching ribbons, I'd use a ribbon that has a small metal wire in it so it'll retain it's shape...

Where's a resonably price place to buy the letters? We have a long name to spell and don't want to spend a fortune ;)

I think we got 8" letters. My DH glued little blocks on the backs of them and then mounted them on the walls, so they sorta float.

Amber, I got our letters for the boys from Woodland Manufacturing Co. for under $70 (we had a long name, too: Alexander). I think they're having a deal this month, too.

Amtaylor-I'm planning to purchase mine from the same place that Phen got hers. Here's the website:

FUNNY - sorry, after posting I re-read your post and realized that you weren't talking about what height to hang them at, but what height of the letter itself ... I'll leave this here mostly for humor's sake ... but maybe it will be helpful as well as provide a good laugh ...

here's my original response ...

hi there - first, I haven't hung the letters you're referring to, but "they" say it's standard to have the center of whatever you're hanging (center, between the top and the bottom) be at eye level.

so, if your letter is 10 inches tall the center would be 5 inches in ... eye-level, for most people, is about 60 inches from the floor. if your nail is at the top of the letter you'd add the 5 inches to the 60 on the wall and that's where you'd put your nail ...

gosh, that's pretty complicated. but if you even "eye it" and make sure the center of the letter is about eye-level you should be in good shape.

I have made several sets of these letters for women of the WC. The size I like to use is capital letters about 9 inches tall and the smallest letters about 6 inches tall. (depending on font used) I attach the ribbon to the back of the letters with a staple gun to ensure that they stay attached.

tara,
Do you have photos of the letters you do? Also, how much do you charge?

eta: Sorry Lex for hijacking...

I spent about 50 bucks at woodland manuf. for an 8 letter name.

Because of the encouragement from some of the ladies of the WC that I made them for, I recently started a web site to sell them. You can go here (http://www.tailored4tots.com) to see my site. There are pictures there of some of the ones I have done. You can private message me or send me an email through my profile if you have any questions.

TaraW-Those are beautiful! I love them. I would purchase them from you but I was just going to get the unpainted kind and paint them with the same color paint I'm using on the bottom half of the room but I love the stenciling you do also! Beautiful!

Thanks for the tip on the ribbon. I'm pretty sure I have a staple gun.....somewhere. :)

Cheap wall letters? Good ol' WalMart has them in the craft dept. That's where we got ours - we have a longer name picked out too and were able to get them for something like $1.99 a piece and they were bare wood so we could prime and paint them whatever color we wanted. :) Hope that helps!
