View Full Version : Infant tub too small. Now what?

DD is about the length of her tub, so that if she has her legs extended, her feet touch the bottom and her head touches the top. This recently became an issue when she started to do leg squats and hits her head on the tub which leads to crying.

We have this infant tub, we don’ have the shower part in it at this time to allow more room for her…

She’s 3 months old and is unable to sit unassisted. Do I move her to the big tub? If so, how do I do this? I can’t just lay her on the tub floor, can I?

We never had a tub like that and only used a sling in the big tub.

A sling?

I always just held DD in my lap in the big tub. It was so much easier than dealing with filling and draining an infant tub. I think when she was around 5 months old I would lay her down by herself in the tub and she really enjoyed that. (There was only about 1" of water.)

I realize that was vague.

We had this

and something similiar to this

We use a sling in the bottom of the big tub. When DS was born big I decided that it would be a waste even though it would be nice sometimes.

Well hell. Not sure why thos pics aren't showing up. I did actually use a mesh ring sling in the shower too but if you look at Target.com they have a
safe bather that's like a big pillow and a little thing that almost looks like a mesh bouncy seat. I liked the pillow deal better because he wouldn't slip at all.

We use the Eurotub from Babies R Us and it fit Helena from infancy all the way til now and she's 2. We don't use it for her now, but after her little sister's bath she often wants to get in it and it still fits. Let me see if I can find a picture.

Oh, it's the Eurobath

And here's Helena is hers at about 3 mos.

We have the Tubside Bath Seat by Safety 1st:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000D9SR8.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

and DD is still using it at almost 12 months. We probably bought it 3-4 months ago. Before that we were using a foam mat that we put on the bottom of the tub, she laid on it, and we'd soap her up and rinse her off. SIL recommended it; I forgot where we got it. It worked much better for us than the infant tub - until she started moving. She's started to try to climb out of the bath seat now but I'm going to use it for as long as I can!

[deleted photos] I will delete these pictures by the end of today.

we had a blue tub with a sling thing inside (from bru), but he outgrew that pretty quickly and as he got heavier, his back would press against the bottom of the tub where there was little thing that stuck up, so i would have to wedge a towel under there so his back wasn't getting poked. we used this for maybe a month.

then we got the euro tub next which we loved. one side lounges and the other side is for when they sit up. it's brilliant. for the lounge side, i would fill with water, lay a hand towel down and put him on that. (the large yellow body sponges to lay them on were too thick and he wouldn't be in any water if he was on top of that). we used the lounge side for about 3m-6m and then the other sitting side for 6m-12m. since 12m, we put him in the big tub.

the bathtub thing was a series of trial & error for us. i remember standing in babies 'r us and just staring at all of them trying to figure out what in the world to buy.

We used the EuroTub until Davey was about 13 months old, then just switched him to sitting in the big tub. We loved the EuroTub though and definitely recommend it!

Another vote for the Eurotub. It is the BEST. DS never wants to get out of the bath. He still fits in it perfectly at 18 months.

I can't find a picture of what we use but it's sold at BRU for less than $10.

DS is 5.5 months and we use a bath sponge that we lay on the bottom of the big bath tub with about an inch or so of water. I never liked the baby bath experience, somehow cleaning the backside was never easy enough for me with them sitting in a baby bath.

EDITED: A picture of what we used is in Twinnyme's "June" post above.

I started out with the baby bathtub but when my boys outgrew that, I found a mesh seat to use in the shower. It's basically like a bouncy seat made of mesh so they just sit in the seat while I give them their bath. It's great and only cost about $12 at toysrus. I highly recommend it!

Done! Thanks for letting me know. HTH. Btw, I have heard very good things about the Eurotub, too. What I like about the bath seat, though, is that since DD has always had a lot of hair, since she's sitting straight up, the hair can dry somewhat before she gets out of the bath, important when bathtime is before bed (though it isn't always). I always wash her hair first and then let her play for a while just so her hair can dry a bit.

My DD outgrew her babytub quicly as well. At about 3 or so mths we moved to the safe bather.

My DD loves it and we still use it at 10mths. It was also very inexpesive. I think I paid 14.00 for it.

another euro tub lover over here. They take up space but work great. Then we moved to the adult tub. Tried some bath seats on loan a few times but did not really like them.

We only used our baby tub twice and then just moved son to the big bathtub. It was so much work to fill up that baby tub and then drain it.

Hi Celina :)

We have this one (from Target).....
Sure Comfort Newborn-to-Toddler Tub
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000067EH7.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS384_.jpg

It comes with a sling for when they are newborns, then it has a way to seat them when they can't sit up on their own yet (infant setting), then you turn it the other way when they can sit up on their own (toddler setting).

The little "bump" in the middle is what keeps them from sliding down ;)

Paige still fits in hers at 9 1/2 months :)

the eurotub worked great for us as well. we switched to the inflatable snug tub sometime around 12 mos, that had more space for playing with toys.

We have the tub that BooeyJ2 posted. DD is almost eight months and it still works great. I do also sometimes take her in the regular bathtub with me. She can sit, so I just sit her right in front of me so I can keep a hand on her and wash her.

I've started taking showers with DS to kill two birds with one stone. I bought this at Target:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000BX5GSW.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg
It works pretty well. I've also given him a bath using this and that was fine, too, but I had to fill the tub up pretty high for the water to touch him at all.

I have the same bathtub as BooeyJ2 and it's still working great for our 5 month old dd. She's small, only 15lbs so we still use the sling part to wash her and then take the sling part off and let her splash around to rinse off. She LOVES it! I don't think she'll outgrow it for some time, and by the time she does she should be sitting pretty well and we'll graduate to the regular tub.
