View Full Version : Diaper bag for 2...

I've been contemplating what to do for a diaper bag when I have two kids. DS would still probably be in diapers (just turn 2) by the time #2 arrives (later this year hopefully!). So, I know I'll need a bigger diaper bag (they barely hold what I take for him now!). What do you all use for 2 kids when they are still small enough to need diapers, clothes, toys, etc??

We're not PG yet, but I've been wondering the same thing. I was thinking of using a Wendy Bellisimo bag that I have. It was way too big for just my DD's things, so I've put it aside. I think it's plenty roomy for 2 kids. It's pictured below:

BRU sells her diaper bags and she has a lot of different styles/colors. They're messenger bags.

i just use the same one i have had all along. all i have needed to add to it are nathans dipes, which dont take up too much space at all.

yeah, me too. If anything, I even ended up cutting back a little, because adding that extra kid's weight motivated me to carry less in my bag.

I use the same one too that I used for one. I don't need to carry as much stuff for Helena as I do Marisa, who spits up a lot and has frequent blow outs.

I found that a backpack style works best. I currently just have a cheepo "Child of Mine" from Walmart that works great ($16). I also have used a http://www.kecci.com/cgi-bin/TLSstore.cgi?kvar=shanghai (Kecci Shanghai) that I loved, but the zipper broke on. I currently want a http://www.travelingwithkids.com/product_info.php/pName/bandicoot-diaper-pursebp (Loom Bandicoot). A lot of twin moms I know IRL use the Eddie Bauer backpack.

I also hear the http://www.fleurville.com/products/mothership.html (Fleurville Mothership) is awesome, but its not a backpack style.

anyway, in my cheepo Walmart one, I usually carry: 2 diapers for each child (they are twins, but are in different sizes of diapers), wipes, changing pad, diaper cream, one outfit for each, lots of burprags and bibs, 2 bottles (at least) and a forumla container thingy that holds 3 bottles worth, I usually pack 2, and extra paci's and a couple of small toys (rattles, skwish, etc.).

Many, you're all killing my arguement for a new bag! hehe!

I'll have to experiment with my current bags...It's totally not an issue, I'm just bored today I guess! :) Thanks for all the links!

I have this one from BRU--the Mid City Tote Diaper Bag (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000083JV8/qid=1136558241/br=1-2/ref=br_lf_ba_2//104-2830811-6026331?v=glance&s=baby&n=14108941):
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000083JV8.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Of course it's not available right now but it seems the right size--I can fit in diapers for both, wipes, some snacks for DS1 and a toy or two and a change of clothes for DS2 plus it looks more like a big purse than screaming "diaper bag" to the world (which is important as DH is a SAHP and wouldn't carry a diaper bag that was too frilly).

I actually use smaller bags now that I have two. Only b/c I have learned how to be a very light packer.

I used the Lands End Little Tripper all last year and now I'm using a Fleurville Sling Tote. Both my kiddos are in diapers.

I accidentally ruined my diaper bag last night in the wash (I ran it through the wash with a small box of crayons), so now I am in the market for a new bag. I am due with my second child in three months and I still seem to be carrying around a lot of stuff (small toys, food, etc.) for my 19 month old, so I would like a big bag if possible. And the cuter, the better :) Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

If you search for diaper bag under "pregnancy" you will find a pretty large thread. I would post the link but I'm not quite sure how. Hope that helps.

We have a 3 year old and are about to have another baby, we chose the Eddie Bauer Mini. It's pretty small but I am tired of carrying around a huge diaper bag full of stuff I really don't need. They have them at Target, Babies R Us, and Toys R Us.

I have 2 Kecci Mommy Bags (one is fall/winter colors, the other is spring/summer colors) and I love them. I've been using them for the past year and they are just the right amount of space for 2 kids. I love that they convert to a backpack style too and I get compliments on them (even from people w/out kids!) all the time.

We have 2 kids and have this bag too. It works great for just going around town and stuff, in fact I found that with 2 it's definitely better to carry a smaller bag. I used to lug around a huge bag and now all I carry is a change of clothes for both, sling, 2-3 diapers and wipes, 2 burp clothes, hand sanitizer, and of course my wallet and cell phone. The 3 year old has several small toys that stay in the car, and the baby's little toys are attached to the carseat. :)

My DD is 18+ months and I am expecting DC#2 next month. Right now, I love just carrying a large purse with a change of clothing and a few diapers and wipes in my Diapees & Wipees carrier, hand sanitizer and a small sunscreen are attached to the strap. However, when the baby is born, I know I will want to haul a little bit more stuff.

My dad bought this for me and I am so excited to use it!

I have the Loom Marsupial diaper bag and used it when I had DD#1. Now that I have two I find it still has plenty of room for what I need. You can find it at http://www.loomlife.com/collection/marsupial.htm.
What I typically carry in it:
- 1 diaper for DD#1 (size 4)
- 2 diapers for DD#2 (size 1)
- outfilt for DD#2, usually a sleeper
- burp cloth
- thin receiving blanket
- sippy cup
- container full of snacks ( I use a Munchkin container made to carry formula)
- package of Kleenex
- 2 pacifiers
- changing pad that comes with the bag
- wipes
- my wallet
- my sunglasses case ( I wear glasses)
- a drink for myself

I guess that is about it.
I highly recommend it! :)

I am PG with #2 right now, so I guess I'm not 100% qualified to answer, but I feel confident that the Vera Bradley baby bag will easily accomodate 2 children. I have ample room right now with one - and carry 2 diapers (size 5?), wipes, 2 cups, snack, changing pad, and a couple books. Love my Veras! ;)

Lands end do it all diaper bag is quite roomy...however it's big so it's not really a good "travel bag"...they make a little tripper that will easily hold several diapers and wipes, plus a sippy cup and snacks and a few other things.

As a shower gift I had received a Fleurville Mothership diaper bag and I bought a Skip Hop bag as well and used them only a handful of time cause they were just too clunky/big.

I actually bought myself a large canvas tote from LL Bean and had it monogrammed with my DS name and I use that all the time. It doesn't have the pockets however It carries everything from diapers, wipes sippy cup, snacks, toys etc.

I also just bought this tote from PersonalizationMall and it's really nice. I used DS initial and for the thread color I used Navy and Yellow.

DS is 18mo and DD is due in April. I just bought the Rocky Mountain Tote by Catini from BRU. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2342184&cp=&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2255957&origkw=rocky+mountain&kw=rocky+mountain&parentPage=search I like that it has waterbottle and sippy pockets on the outside, various mesh pockets for diapers & toys inside, and an outside zippered pocket for my stuff. Seems to be working so far & I still have space for DD's stuff when she gets here.

I like my Kecci and my Petunia Pickle Bottom. For me it is criticial for it to convert to a back pack since I often sling my youngest while my oldest walks.

I use a Picklebottom w/ ds #1, after 19 mos. of non-stop use, it's time to be retired and I got a new PB (same style, messenger bag w/ back pack feature) for ds #1 and 2, I'll keep using my oldie until #2 arrives next month. Want it to be fresh, for him. ;)

I have loved my pb since the day I got it, the backpack is a must have and I really think it'll come in handy w/ two little ones.

Sounds like you're a heavy packer, some bigger bags that I hear Moms of 2 raving about are:

Skip Hop Double Duo
Lexie Barnes Superstar
Ju-Ju-Be Be All
Fluerville Mothership (this one is covered in Vinyl so it may be a tad heavy)

Others that are medium to large are:
Skip Hop Dash
Silver Line Fling
Fluerville Sling Tote

I would also like to recommend the Bumble Bags Jessica, many people love these bags:

http://www.bumblebags.com/images/img_jessica_pinkpaisley02.jpg
It can be carried messenger style, over the shoulder, or as a backpack. I have it in the circus stripes and there are other pretty patterns available. It has tons of pockets and is a very organized bag (6 pockets) that even when packed to the gills does not look big and bulky. The bag itself is very light in weight and (though I haven't tried this yet) I have heard it's machine washable. Good luck.

I have this bag and it has been GREAT! It is alittle heavy even without all the "stuff" in it but the side pockets are perfect to hold bottles and sippy cups or a bottle of water. I love the inside insulated pocket and it has a zipper pocket so things don't fall out. And the shoulder strap fits right inside when you are using it as a backpack. The backpack isn't super comfortable but it is good enough. I used a Vera Bradley backpack with DS #1 and loved it but it is kind of dirty now so I got this one. I really like it so far. I have a diaper bag problem - and this is my current favorite!

Also - I find that it helps to keep a bag in the car with emergency supplies so that my diaper bag isn't too heavy and that way I could always run out the the car if I needed another diaper etc....

I have the Lands End do it all diaper bag and so far I love it (haven't used it for two kids yet.) I especially like that it opens 'wide mouth' style and has several pockets which was a must for me. I hate digging and digging to find what I need. As much as I love it though, it is pretty big - I definitely wouldn't want anything bigger and still keep my old one around for shorter trips (not sure what it's called, it was a Carter's promotion).

I just got a Skip Hop Duo Double, and it is great! I love all the pockets, etc. It really isn't *that* much bigger than my PPB.

I am a light packer normally, but this is my all day bag (like Disneyland, zoo, etc.) Otherwise, I have a Fleurville Escape Pod w/ 2 diapers for each kid that I leave in the car.

I am getting ready to have my second. We use a basic LL Bean packback which has 1) a diaper pad from my LL Bean Do it All DB and 2) a diaper/wipe/sanitizer holder that I made to fit in my old bad. It is nice because it is gender neutral so my DH will wear it most of the time, because it is large and has lots of pockets, and does not require hands!

I make sure to get the nice flat ones straight out of the diaper package, and put 2 in a pocket, and the other two just "float" in there with the wipes case.

I only have 1 child, but I watch another.

I loved my Lands End Do It All bag up until recently. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bag. I recently got a backpack (Eddie Bauer) and don't know how I ever survived without it. I love being hands & arms free now. It makes life so much easier. I used to bring the stroller along sometimes just to hold the diaper bag.

I have the Lexie Barnes SuperStar and it might be okay for 2:
http://www.lexiebarnes.com/images/collection/baby/BSPR/BSPR_DTRT_300.jpg
The measurements are 12.5" x 17" x 6"

But I think I want something bigger...and just as cute!

Anyone use the Fanci-Free?
http://www.fanci-free.com/marketplace/images/productphotos/49007lrgp.gif
The measurements are 14" Wx11 3/4" H X 8 1/2"

It seems good, organized, and big enough but its really soft so doesn't stand on its own at all....that may be annoying.

Any other reccs that are bigger than the LB SS? I like lots of pockets, and especially bottle pockets on the outside for easy-access of my & DS's water.

Not sure, it's actually probably going to be too big, but I thought the print was cute, and it was a good deal on babybags NWT. If it isn't going to work I figure I can just resell if for what I paid (well under retail). But it could be a good bag for all-day outings or plane trips or whatever if it's too big for everyday. I have a brand-new oioi hobo, fleurville mothership from the seconds sale, and a blingybaby already waiting for #2! I'm a nut. But I really prefer tote style bags so I'm not sure I'll bother keeping the mothership and the hobo might not work either because I'm not in love with the print I got. I can't decide!

I own about 6 diaper bags, and this by far is my favorite bag of all. Great looking and a nice size, perfect for 2 kids. Best of all, it's super lightweight even when packed full. This will become my work tote once we're done with diapers.

Here's some info I posted on the Master Diaper Bag thread as well, from my trip to Buy Buy Baby today:

Mon Petite Diaper Bags
Tote $27.99 7x13.25x14.5
http://www.buybuybaby.com/images/products/family/9318614004.jpg
http://www.buybuybaby.com/shopping/prod_detail/main.asp?productID=183093&code=SEARCHDEX
There are a few more designs, but every one I looked at was lightweight, lots of pockets, well organized, and so inexpensive! The whole rangle of bags was only $25-50 and they were very nice quality. The tote is a nice size, and though it doesn't zip closed at top (magnetic 'snap' instead), it would be a good backup bag.

Skip Hop Double Duo
$80 18.5x4.5x14
http://a940.g.akamai.net/7/940/449/0005/www.estyle.com/images/product/20293_MID_r.jpg
A million pockets, especially all around the exterior. It says its meant for double SBS strollers, but I hung it on a single that was close by and though it 'drooped' a little it was just fine. I'd use it on a single or on a tandem double, definitely.
I still don't like how not-deep it is (only 4.5") but if you like narrow bags but still love to pack a lot this could be for you.

Fanci-Free
$100 and Down (depending on design, since some are older and don't have adjustable straps) 14x11.75x8.5
http://www.fanci-free.com/marketplace/images/productPhotos/49007op.gif
Annoyingly soft and collapsy, but this thing opens WIDE in the center pocket and the 2 other compartments are very well organzied. Comes with a ton of accessories. I was impressed. Just need to find one that's plain on the inside (I find the interior patterns they use too busy for finding stuff in there) that I like on the outside!

***BTW the brand above "Mon Petite" makes an almost-perfect knockoff of the Fanci-Free bag for about $50 brand new***

I think I want to get a big bag with one huge compartment like the new OiOi CarryAll Eyelet bags, and just keep DS & DD's stuff seperated. I'd get one pink and one blue diaper & wipes case to keep track of who's stuff is whose.....

Diaper and Wipes Cases
I've found 3 styles I like so far:
Diapees & Wipees has a ton of patterns to choose from $15 7x10"
http://www.diapeesandwipees.com/images/subpages/products/2bags.jpg
Fanci-Free $12 6.5x10.25"
http://www.fanci-free.com/marketplace/images/productphotos/acc_diepers.gif
JJ Cole - comes with thin, small changing pad that fits inside (but is kind of useless, BUT they have 4 or so patterns to choose from) $15 11.75x6.25"

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet (I haven't read the whole thread:)) but some of you might find that when you have 2 kids you actually use a smaller bag than you used to with 1! I have a few diaper bags, but my favorite one to carry right now is a "non" diaper bag, a really cute, bright zippered tote by LeSportsSac. I'd post a pic if I knew how! All I carry in it is the wipes case, 1 diaper (there are 2 more stored in the car), sling, hand sanitizer, some wet wipes, extra pacifier, tissues, 2 bibs, and a small snack for my 3yo. A change of clothes for each is always kept in the car. The exceptions of course are when we travel, either by airplane or day trips...then we use a larger bag.

magdesilver
01-25-2007, 07:23 AM
Kim I had another thought for you. Didn't you recently move to the 'burbs from the city (or are about to?). If so, and you go on an all-day outing with your 2 with your car, you can keep "overflow" supplies in there, like extra dipes, wipes, snacks, etc. Then you can just refill your main bag as you leave the car to go wherever. This would mean you don't have to lug around a big fat suitcase bag everywhere you go. You probably thought of this, since it's pretty obvious, but I wanted to mention it anyhow.
Got my duo double, and like it a lot! I think it will probably be too big for my everyday bag, but for the zoo, airplane, etc., I think it will be a good bet.

Koala_Gurl
01-25-2007, 07:52 AM
Yeah, as someone mentioned the Duo Double does zip closed at the top. My favorite feature is the additional zippered opening at the top that is only a few inches deep. So great to be able to find my wallet / cell phone so easily.

Anyone know of a large bag w/ good organization that is also a backpack?

magdesilver

Koala I'd go with the Posh Baby Ultimate. They are $$ but you can probably get a good used one on babybags if you post an ISO there. They are similar to PPB, but with wipeable (but not vinyl covered) exteriors, and lots of pockets inside. They are a messenger or backpack option.
Another option would be the ju-ju-be packabe (not sure if it would be big enough though) or the new Lexie Barnes backpack (not sure if that one is only a backpack or a convertible, though).

if someone would pretty please buy our condo, we'll gladly move to the 'burbs effective immediately. ;)
Thanks for your thoughts!! I do keep a bin of overflow in our truck, but I am Super Prepared Girl and like to have everything under the sun on hand and organized. DS is a snacker and so am I, so on top of all the usual stuff i always have to keep extra food and bottles of water in there for me as well. I am my own worst enemy, lol!

Hi,

I'm looking at the Fleurville Mothership diaper bag for DD (22 mo) and DS (due in June). I had originally thought that this bag has stroller attachments, but realized that maybe it doesn't after all? Is this a feature of the Sling Tote only? For anyone who has the Mothership, do you like it? Is it an appropriate size for 2 kiddos? If it does not have the stroller attachments, can it still be easily attached to a stroller? Also, where is the best place/best price to buy it online?

Bumping this up as I have a question.

I had briefly a fleurville sling tote that I gave to my sister. I loved it. Seemed roomy enough for 2. But I want something that doesn't look too much like a diper bag. Now here are the things I've looked for:

Oioi Hobo
Ju Ju Be smart
or go with the Fleurville sling tote

What do you guys think? What is your favorite and why?
Thanks!

I am no where near two children but I somehow got in this thread and thought I would answer to Cosmogirl.

I had the Fleurville Sling Tote and outgrew it with one and I found it heavy!! I just got the Ju Ju Be All and LOVE it! It holds everything and more and is light. A pocket for everything and I even carry 4 diapers, food, sippy, bottle, formula, snacks, cheerios, socks, shoes, onesie, toys, etc. I LOVE my bag.

Thanks mama!!!:D
I'm looking at the Ju jube, so I'm guessing that it is lighter then the fleurville? (that bugged me a bit!)
How is organisation inside?
Thanks!

FWIW I went shopping today and looked at tons and tons of bags...

I was surprized at how heavy the Juju be packable was...so cute, but heavy. Strange because the Juju be all didn't seem nearly as heavy.

The Timi and Leslie Large be be bag was cute, but prety small...about eh same size as a Kecci.

The Petunia pickle bottom bags are all beautiful but too small for me with 2 kids soon.

I really liked the Oioi Messenger and the Fleurville mothership. Both were roomy and not heavy (which surprized me about the mopthership because of the vinyl) Anyone with those bags??

Eldub~ From what a could see it didn't look like the mothership could attach to a stroller, but I bet the strap would go over the stroller bars.

It is MUCH lighter than the Fleurville (that bugged the HECK outta me). When you open the Be All, it has 6 mesh pockets on the inside and a small zip one (that I keep Mia's insurance info and mine and Hubby's numbers for her nanny) that's able to hold small things like license and money and such. It also has a 'Mama pocket' that holds sunglasses and other things and ANOTHER zip pocket on the outside that has mesh areas for things like cell phone, other odd n inns and a ditty bag for the dirty clothes. I can try to get pictures if you'd like. Just let me know.

I don't know if you guys saw that there is already a diaper bag for 2 thread in the 12-26 month forum.

There has been some good discussion there:

Just thought I'd come back in and tell you what I ended up with. :)

OiOi Black Eyelet Carry All $120

Love it! Keeps all of DS (23 months) and DD (3 weeks) stuff organized, there's enough room for all i need. The pockets are well-placed, sturdy handles and long adjustable shoulder strap. Very, very happy with it.

Is it bad that I am the last one to post a new bag, and here I am again posting another new bag? :o

Got it and LOVE it:
Un Apres Midi De Chien Large Passy (mine is in Steel Blue)

Its not a diaper bag, but works perfectly as one. Lightweight, gorgeous, hot pink interior, lots of pockets, spacious inside, adjustable straps. Very very happy!
And if you like it, look around online because I have seen some of the 'old' colors (like light pink or chocolate) on clearance. Normally $208, I've seen them from $75-158.

I've tried a number of diaper bags since DD2 was born last year, and this is the system that works for me.

On a day to day basis, I carry an Overland Equipment Donner

http://www.zappos.com/images/716/7160668/2990-391534-d.jpg

In the main compartment, I carry a dipes and wipes thingie for DD2, plus my wallet, snacks, and toys. The outer pockets hold a bottle of water and hand sanitizer, and the part under the flap is where I keep my keys and cell. Since it can be worn messenger style, it's a cinch to sling DD while using it.

In the car, I keep an Eddie Bauer Diaper Backpack filled with a change of clothes for each child plus extra diapers and wipes.

Those of you that babywear and carry a messenger or backpack style, do you put the baby on and then put the diaper bag over the baby and or sling? I just can't visualize it. Maybe it's pregnancy brain.

I pretty much only carry DS in a mei hip right now and I can't ever figure out how to wear my Kecci backback at the same time.

I already have a diaper bag already, but need some ideas for organizing for 2 kids! DD is mostly potty trained, but I still need to carry a change of clothes/panties/pull up for her. I don't mind the kids' things getting mixed up, but when I drop them both off at the church nursery or MOPS I don't want to have to carry a bag for each. Is there something sort of like a diapees and wipees (but bigger) that would hold DD's change of clothes that I could throw in DS's diaper bag? It would be great if it was cute and could have her name on it! Thanks!

Natrat, what about a Ju-Ju-Be Wardrobe Station? Or a JJB Be Quick...but that might be too small.

Wardrobe Station (http://ju-ju-be.com/wardrobe_closeup.html)

thanks Taurus, I like the wardrobe station!

New problem-I hate the bag that I thought would be perfect! It's big enough but it's a black hole and I can't find any of MY stuff in there. So I need some organization for mom's stuff and baby/toddler's stuff. Does anyone have a Ju Ju Be small? I'm wondering if I could fit everything I need in there. I need it to hold:

4 size 1 dipes
wipes case
extra sleeper for DS
burp cloth
2 breast pads
extra panties/pants for DD probably in a ju ju be wardrobe station
DD's sippy cup
snack for DD
my wallet
my phone
my powder, lipstick, chapstick
travel size wet ones

Any ideas?

I have a couple of good ones I used for DS, who is almost 3. Now that I will (hopefully) be needing a new bag, and I still need to haul around crud for DS, I was wondering if anyone got a different bag for #2 and had any recommendations.
