Maybe you could take the Mineral Veil with you and re-apply it later on in the day? That's the only thing I can think of, but I'm not having that problem.

I just wanted to check back in and say that I went to the BE store by my house and I had the woman apply everything for me, and I like it much better and I think I apply it much more easily/quickly after watching her do it. I imagine the same thing would be accomplished by watching the video, but this way I got my make up done for free, too. ;) She also said that if my brushes keep shedding excessively, I can bring them back and exchange them even though they came w/ the kit. The next day the brushes didn't shed at all, but the last couple of days they have been shedding more than I would like, so I'm still thinking that option over. Something to keep in mind for others having the same problem, perhaps.

I'm thinking about adding some of the eyeshadows - does anyone use these?

Ladies, I've been using this for a few weeks now and I too love the way it makes my skin feel except for one thing. I have an oily t-zone and by the end of the day my forehead is shine city with this stuff. I'm not using a regular moisturizer, just cleansing, toning, and then the bare vitamins. If anyone else has an oily forehead I would love to hear your experiences/suggestions.

Thanks!

Mineral veil in the middle of the day works wonders.

I use them, and I really like them. If you've never used a loose shadow before, it may take a little getting used to, but they're really nice. The glimmers are really, really sparkly -- a bit too sparkly for everyday in my opinion. I like the glimpses which have some sparkle but not too much. I've never bought a full size eyeshadow. I always buy samples from ebay. The samples last a really long time.

I've noticed you can buy lots of eyeshadow samples on Ebay, I think there might've been like 20 samples or something. The description says that they're a random grouping, they don't list the colors. I'm worried though about what colors you get. Like maybe they're throwing together 20 samples of colors that they can't get rid of? Has anyone ever bought a lot like that?

I've bought more than one sample at once (never as many as 20, though), but I've always been able to choose the colors. Generally, though, I just buy one sample at a time.

I just saw on their website that on February 26th, they are debuting a new QVC today's special value with 10 pieces and new colours.

Shiny Forehead I agree with re-applying the mineral veil during the day. I carry a compact of theirs with some of my foundation, and then I have their retractable face brush and a container of mineral veil that I use for touch ups if I need them.

RE: Shiny/Oily

I would recommend a product from the Bath & Bodyworks' Pure Simplicity Line. It's a "skin mattifier" and the tube says burdock root on it. I put some on my t-one after my moisturizer has dried, before applying the minerals. But wait for it to dry first or you might make a paste with the minerals. The package says you can apply it over make up, but that has nevere worked for me. I find it to last all day. It's also great for days when your skin is looking very good and you don't need any foundation but want to deal with an oily t-zone.

Does anyone travel with their BM? I am going to be travelling on business for 2 weeks, and I am worried about container spillage.
Any ideas?

I travel with my BM all the time and have never had a problem with spillage. I have a plastic lined makeup bag and just make sure I closed the lids securely.

I went a little crazy at Sephora today. Replaced my empty bisque and foundation color. Bought a full coverage brush and Glee all over powder. Also bought envy, chenille, cashmere, shantung, cellestine eye shadows and glimmers.

laura- I'm pretty new to BM, and I just bought several eyeshadows at the local BE store. I'm medium blonde and pale w/ green eyes, and they recommended "precious" and "wild woman debra" for everyday use (they are more neutral/brown tones with a little sparkle). I also bought "purrfect" (golden green) and "waterlily" (purple) to use when I want a little more color. I think it takes a little getting used to because it's in loose form, but the key is not using too much. I'm also putting the eyeshadow on before applying the foundation or MV, so I can brush off any extra that ends up on my cheeks.

Question: I haven't bought any of the BM brushes yet, and I'm wondering if the ones you purchase with the kit are as good/the same as the ones you can purchase separately. Any thoughts?

I bought all my brushes, kabuki included (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000BN3ZDK/sr=1-2/qid=1137281890/ref=sr_1_2/103-1407928-0317439?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=3760931&s=hpc&v=glance), from Beauty Strokes on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search.html/ref=br_ss_hs/103-1407928-0317439?platform=gurupa&url=node%3D3760931&keywords=beauty+strokes&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go). I think they work great and are a fraction of the cost of other "designer" brushes (very few hairs fall out and it feels nice against my skin)

I just wanted to pop back in here and say that I'm so glad that I found this thread and tried BM. I love it and my skin has improved dramatically. I always had so much redness and it has been reduced by about 75%. And I wasn't even aware that that was one of the benefits of BM!

For those who are thinking that it takes longer, try the kabuki brush - I love the coverage it gives. Also, I use Well Rested after my foundation for eye circles and broken capillaries around my nose rather than trying to get the coverage heavy in those areas.

Yeah, it was taking me too long with all of the steps, too. So, last night I decided to just use the kabuki brush and skip the other two steps. Same end product, but much quicker!

I just traveled w/ my BM w/ mixed results. I mean it was good in that it didn't spill all over my make up bag or anything, but it was kind of annoying in that about half of the 'product' has moved up into the open part of the container so I have a hard time dumping a little bit only into the lid now. It isn't 'impossible' to use or anything, but it is a little bit messier now when I do use it and minorly annoying in that I feel like I've had too little or too much coverage this entire week, never 'just enough'. I'm still figuring things out, but I couldn't think of a better way to handle them?

Thanks for all the eyeshadow advice!

I'm thinking about buying BM. I have a couple of questions, though....

Which color is your favorite all-over face color (True, Glee, Warmth, etc.)? And what color complexion do you have?

If you order it online, how on Earth do you choose which shade is right for you? I wouldn't say I'm incredibly pale, but I am on the fair side (tan easily, though). I have neutral undertones, so I don't know if I should order the foundation in fair or medium. What do you have (and what kind of complexion do you have?)?

If you ordered from Ebay, who did you order it from?

TIA!

My favorite all over face color is warmth, but that's b/c i have a warm complexion, i'm filipino. Some of the others are too sparkly for me for every day wear. But I LOVE using them for going out.

I personally don't order most things online only b/c I like to try it on or match everything first, are you sure there isn't an ulta or a sephora anywhere near you? They have pretty good return policies, but you may not even need it if you talk to the person manning the bare minerals area. :)

I picked up a medium kit, and the 3 is TOO dark for me. And I tan just thinking about the sun, so i'd say if you were fair, I'd go with the lighter color.

Do you guys use the same brush for mineral veil and the foundation?
Another question......I have a bronzer brush that feels so much like the kabuki. Does anyone use one of those instead? I'm getting the hang of the bare minerals and really liking it!

laura
02-02-2006, 12:20 PM
I use the kabuki brush for foundation and max coverage brush for mineral veil.

I use the 'light' foundation for all over face color & I use the 'fairly light' for concealer. (I got the light/fairly light kit.) I would say my skin is fair, and I tan fairly easily. I don't use the warmth at all, but that is really more laziness than anything else. If I did use it, I would use it as a bronzer/blush - I'll probably start this when the weather warms and I actually have a little sun on my face. I didn't order from ebay, I got the "get started kit" from Sephora for Christmas.

I think I need to watch the tutorial. I had a girl do my face at Ulta and it was kind of quick. I didn't get the whole schebang, which was ok, I really just wanted the basics anyway but of course now I am intrigued. I love how at the end of the day it still looks like I just put it on! That is so cool!

I have the think I will get the warmth for summer and the lighter shade you mentioned for concealer. I have a ton of brushes at home and feel like I should be able to make it work with what I have. Although I'm SURE I will end up with a kabuki!

laura
02-02-2006, 12:36 PM
I didn't watch the tutorial either. I had a girl at the BE store apply the make up for me, but I didn't pay a lot of attention to which brushes she used for what (beyond that she used the kabuki to apply the foundation) - I'm just anal about mixing brushes. :) FWIW, I use the smaller brush that came w/ the kit to apply the 'concealer', too, and I apply my blush, eye liner and eye shadow all with separate brushes, too. So I might be weird.

charissa
02-02-2006, 01:35 PM
I use the kabuki brush and the max coverage concealer brush for the foundation.

Then I have two separate flawless application brushes for warmth and mineral veil.

When I apply any of the "extras" i use the wet dry shadow brush for the eys and my warmth flawless app brush for anything that will go all over.

I've read the other girls complaints about the brushes from BM, but I happen to love them, and haven't really had issues with shedding or breaking. They're natural materials, so its gonna happen. My max coverage concealer brush doesn't shed at all, probably b/c its synthetic.

When I traveled with my minerals over Christmas, I stuck a cotton ball in the top of my foundation and my mineral veil. Not much got stuck to the cotton ball, and no minerals were loose in the lid. Granted, I was traveling with the 2 (or 3?) gram sized minerals, not the 9g, but I'm sure the 9g would have the same results, even if you have to stuff two or three more cotton balls in the top of the sifter.

I realized this morning that this is incorrect! :o

I actually use the kabuki brush for foundation (light), the max coverage brush for concealer (fairly light) and the flawless application brush for mineral veil. Or, as it is in my head: biggest for foundation, medium for m.v., smallest for spot-coverage concealer.

And cotton balls! Genius!

I've used some leftover round cotton pads in the makeup containers to prevent spillage, and when I ran out of those, I just folded some tissue and packed it in there, it worked well.

I am so tempted to try some eyeshadows but I already have so many - mostly MAC

I just received a luscious kabuki brush I ordered last week. It's amazing!! It's incredibly soft and dense. I think that I'm going to shorten my daily routine just b/c I don't have to go over the same area so many times. Of course, since it's so soft I may just buff longer!

pontmarie--I know what you mean about the MAC shadows. I can't break away from them. I've tried the BM ones and wasn't too impressed. I just use the BM shadows on weekends or when I want to add sparkles to my MAC colours.

to answer earlier ?s:
Which color is your favorite all-over face color (True, Glee, Warmth, etc.)? glee--it's my 2nd blush
And what color complexion do you have? pale with pink/blue undertones

If you order it online, how on Earth do you choose which shade is right for you? I used to wear a foundation called "cloud". It wasn't a difficult choice for me. I also mix in #3 if I want go get a little "tan"

If you have yellow undertones to your skin, I'd go with a #2. For more pink tones, go with #3

If you ordered from Ebay, who did you order it from? colourful sprinkles, todd-n-barb, suzanne130

I tried my 'meet the browns' shadows yesterday and hmm. I liked the dark brown w/ the wet/dry brush as smudge-y eyeliner, but I thought the light brown (the all over color) was very orange-y. Anyone else use these? These are the regular shadows and they're pretty matte, IMO.

I should say I actually got 2 compliments w/ it, so I can't figure out if it was just a change for me from my regular stuff or if I actually really don't like it. I think I'll try to use it again today and see.

To those of you who purchased 1/8 tsp samples off Ebay, please tell me it's a lot more than it sounds. I just spent $16.50 on 3 foundation samples, and samples of mineral veil and warmth. Now I'm feeling like that's a lot of money for 1/8 tsp! That sounds tiny! Will it even cover my face once (or hopefully more)?

Hi ladies,
I'm also a devotee of BM. I just love the stuff.

Thanks for the cotton-ball/travel suggestion. What a wonderful idea.

eBay samples -- yes, the samples should get you through several applications.

Now, here's my question.......I have HORRIBLE undereye circles. I'm currently using a liquid Clinique concealer. It works okay, but I find that it has creased into my "fine lines" by the end of the day.

So, I'm looking for opinions on the Well Rested product. I've tried using BM as a concealer, but it really doesn't work for me. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Have any of you tried Clear Radiance? Did/Do you like it?

From the BM website:

Clear Radiance bareMinerals® give skin a beautiful dewiness similar to a child’s skin. Worn under or over (or mixed with) any bareMinerals® face product, they impart a soft, luminous glow to your complexion.

I just read through the whole thread and I'm more intrigued than ever about BM but....

I HATE face powders that have any kind of sparkle in them (outside of a highlighter or eyeshadow) for daytime use. Does the MV have any kind of mica or sparkle in it? What about the all over face colors

Thanks Katy! I guess my concern was that even regular face powders (often labeled as translucent) have mica in them, and in certain lights it makes your skin look very sparkly even though the effect is supposed to be mattifying. It's the same ideas as those "light-reflecting" body lotions.

I think I'll be a new convert soon. :)

I've found that even though I don't think BM is completely mattifying and doesn't take away allllllll of your natural shine, it doesn't add that sparkle that you are thinking about. It imparts a really nice airbrushed finish that lets your real skin show and looks very natural. I purchased it 2 weeks or so ago and really am enjoying working with it. I have a ton of good brushes so didn't feel the need to buy the ones that go with it........hopefully that isn't some huge mineral law that I am breaking!

I used to use BM all of the time but I just do not have the money for it now. Where is the cheapest place you have found to buy the products? Plus I am living in Austria now and I do not think they sell it here.

Also, I was never able to find the right brushes when I used the product because I am a vegetarian and for me that also includes using animal materials for make up and clothing. Is anyone using a brush made out of synthetic material that they like??

I am convinced! Two of my journal buds use this and like this make-up. I have watched the infomericals numerous times. I don't have a Sephora near me but I am going home in April and there is a store there. I will definitely check this out. I'm not sure about the color and I don't know how successful I will be blending to get a good color match so I liked to have some help at the store.

I am so grateful for this thread!

EBAY!!!!!

Seriously, I never buy BM from anywhere else. You can find some good deals on Ebay, even with shipping. Of course, shipping to Austria's probably a bit more expensive, but you should give it a try.

I use the bisque as undereye concealer (and actually concealer for any bumps or pimples) with a max coverage brush. I like it better than liquid concealers which seem greasy or cakey.

When I got my starter kit, it came with an instructional DVD, so I followed what they did on the DVD for concealing. I think it works really well. They recommended using the max coverage concealing brush, concealing with your foundation first over your undereye circles. They then applied foundation to the entire face, then went back with the concealing brush and applied Bisque over the undereye area. It doesn't crease into fine lines at all for me.

I bought the kit from Sephora on Friday. Applied it on Saturday morning for the first time – I will never go back to wearing foundation! I wore it yesterday as well and today – my face looks good. It’s not cakey or oily.

I thought maybe I’d fall into the medium bucket but the sales lady at Sephora told me I was definitely light so suggested I not buy medium. Thank god I listened to her! So easy to use and the Kabuki brush feels so good! I can’t believe I’ve been using all those cheap drug store brushes all these years!

For daytime wear I use only warmth and haven’t been using blush. I think it works well. Maybe for going out and stuff I’ll add blush but I think warmth is plenty for me. Mineral veil is fabulous! I’m kicking myself because I can’t believe it took me this long to try this product.

I’m also thinking about getting bisque. I looked on Ebay – do you guys trust the ebay products to be real BM products?

Thanks!

Ok, you ladies have convinced me. I just ordered the starter kit from Sephora's website. I first got interested in it because a bride on another site said it was great for her summer wedding. It didn't run or melt or get shiny and looked good in photos etc. I hope the colors are right. I have pretty light skin and unfortunately I live in small town USA and would probably have to drive to some other state to find a Sephora store! I can't wait til it gets here!

Lilo This is a third hand account but, the saleschick at Sephora who helped me out was raving about BE on her oily, acne prone skin. Although she was very heavily made up, she was wearing the BE products and said they had been great for her skin, she didn't break out anymore.

Also, I found out by accident that my SIL-to-be, who has cystic acne was told to use BE by her dermatologist. SIL loves the stuff and it hasn't exacerbated her condition at all.

.................................

So, I picked up the Light starter kit over the weekend and wore the makeup for the first time on Sunday. It was incredibly easy to put on which I loved, although the light is still too dark for my skintone. Warmth has a nice bronzey effect with out the "I'm wearing bronzer" effect of other make-ups and the mineral veil feels wonderful.

I'm definitely a convert although I do have to complain that it's awfully messy (a lot of that is probably me). Also, my skin feels very dry and tight for a while after I put it on. My skin gets horribly dry during the winter and I moisturize like crazy but after the BE it's still feeling tight and itchy. I'm going to adjust my routine and moisturizing pattern a little and see if I can't make it better.

Since the Light is still to dark, I bought Fair yesterday and mixed the two together in a leftover loose powder container and now I think I have just the right shade. I also got Clear Radiance and LOVE the effect. I think I'm also going to use it as a foil shade on my eyes once in a while.

I've also discovered the holy grail of eyebrow powders. I am naturally blonde but have recently gone very dark brunette (think Renee Z) but the eyebrows are still blonde. Most other powders are too red in tone and the fill in looks REALLY obvious. BE Brunette powder matches my new color so perfectly that the new brows look entirely natural! I am SO thrilled!!!

Thanks for all the great reviews and recs ladies, I'm so happy I finally tried this stuff out!

I get pretty dry in the winter also and have the same issue. I was thinking about switching to a liquid/cream foundation just for the winter. But I'm having the same issue w/ the liquid stuff. What I've been doing, which has helped, is putting a little eye/lip cream on the dry spots (on top of my moisturizer) to give it a little extra moisture. I use Philosphy's Hope in a Tube but I'm sure any eye/lip type cream will do. I've also been better about moisturizing at night, which I wasn't good about before. I'm also trying to be better about exfoliating regularly.

I heard somewhere, not sure if here or on http://www.makeupalley.com but, someone suggested only taking off half of the little sticker that keeps the foundation in the bottom part of the container. that way it limits the amount of powder that gets thru the sifter thingy. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

I was browsing on sephora's site yesterday and noticed that they have a mineral veil called warmth. I don't use the mineral veil that came in my starter kit because it's one extra step in the morning that doesn't really do anything for me, but i am wondering if i should just mix some of my warmth in with the mineral veil to punch it up a bit. Me! I don't have regular breakouts (just when AF is in town, and not every month) but I do have oily, sensitive skin. I haven't used it in summer when my skin is its oiliest yet, but so far so good. I've been extremely pleased with the results of the foundation and mineral veil thus far. For the first time in my life I put my makeup on in the morning and don't feel like it's all off me by the end of the day.

Question
I received eyeshadow in passionate plum for Christmas and when I recently used it I had a pretty bad allergic reaction to it. I haven't had any problems with anything else I've tried, so I don't know what ingredient in the eyeshadow caused the problem. My eyes immediately started to water and swell, my chest got tight and I started to sneeze. Has anyone ever had any trouble with the eye products? Also, my mom bought this from Sephora - should we attempt a refund from them or should I try to notify the bare escentuals company?

I don't use the mineral veil that came in my starter kit because it's one extra step in the morning that doesn't really do anything for me, but i am wondering if i should just mix some of my warmth in with the mineral veil to punch it up a bit. Has anyone mixed minerals?

The Warmth is not a Mineral Veil & it should also be in your starter kit. The Warmth you dust on for all over color or "Warmth" as it's called after Mineral Veil. I have very fair skin & Warmth is way too dark for me no matter what I do... so I bought "True" I believe it's called & use that for all over color. There are a few different all over face colors. I think one is called Glee? also. There should also be a little booklet with products in your starter kit where you can find different colors you might like. :)

I agree - Mineral Veil is more like a "top powder" or "sealer" and Warmth is more like a bronzer or some people use it as blush. You could probably mix them, but since they do different things, I'm not sure I necessarily would.

ETA: Also, I use the BE eye products with no problems. I have several different shadows and I haven't had problems w/ any of them. If it was purchased at Sephora, you can return it w/ no problems even if it's been used. You may have to get store credit (? - definitely w/o a receipt, not sure if they refund w/ a receipt), but at least you could get something else that does work for you. I just returned some used eyeliner to Sephora w/o a receipt last weekend w/ no problems at all - they didn't even ask why I was returning it. And when I bought "Meet the Browns" the woman was like "just take them home and try them - if they don't work, bring them back, no problem!"

Like pp said, warmth is more like a bronzer. I only a tiny bit since it's pretty dark. Warmth is an all-over face color, but I also use it as eyeshadow, blush, and lip color (I dip a lip balm into it). If you find warmth is just too dark for you to use on its own, you can mix it with mineral veil to lighten it up. Some people also use warmth to mix with their foundation powder to darken up it up a bit. HTH.

I am going to try mixing a small amount of warmth and mineral veil in a separate container and see what happens. I like the idea of using mineral veil as an eyeshadow, because as it stands right now, I don't use it!
Thanks girls!

If I don't use mineral veil over my BM, I am much oilier at the end of the day. I even use it before the BM as well. So, if you have an oily t-zone, this works wonderfully for that. It sets the BM very well.

WOO HOO.....I got my Bare Minerals yesterday in the mail and today was the first day I have worn it. So far, I am liking it. I took the PP's advice and made a mineral veil sandwich, and I am not shiny in the least. It took me a few minutes to get the swirl, tap, and buff thing going, but once I did, I was able to get the desired look. I think the only thing I am going to do now, is get that spot concealer brush. I am glad that I ordered the blush too, I really like it and it looks really natural.

WOW, did I have fun yesterday! I hit sephora and got a bunch of cool BM stuff! I needed to get more of the foundation, but I also picked up the well rested, 2 of the shadow liners and one of the quick sticks for lips. I can't believe how wonderful the well rested works, especially on my dark undereye circles. I also have very dark eyelids...it looks like i am wearing shadow all the time, but this stuff perks me right up.
I also mixed a little of the mineral veil with a little of the warmth, and it is now something I can use! the color is just a little deeper, but very natural. it looks great on its own...perfect for the weekends when you don't feel like putting on a full face.

I have a question...

I have pale skin with neutral undertones (blue/pink) and fair is a shade or two too light. Do I try light (with warm undertones) or do I need medium (neutral undertones)? Medium will be too dark so I'm sure I will have to mix it. Just to add, I can't wear yellow tones, I look jaundice (sorry for spelling). Unfortunately, Okla is not a cosmetic mecca so the closest Sephora store is over 3 hours away. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Have you tried fairly light? If you're pale, you shouldn't need anything darker than that. I mix fair and fairly light together to get the right shade.

A suggestion so that you don't have to spend lots of money -- buy some samples on EBay. That way you can try a few different colors and find the one or combination of two that works for you.

I"ve noticed that I'm fairly consistent when it comes to high end foundations. The last four or so companies I've used (Nars, Aveda, Mac and BM) I"ve been the second to the lightest in each. That said, I think I'd feel fairly confident to now pick up any foundation in the second to lightest color. That said, if you don't go the samples route that's been suggested (and I think can be great - you might also be able to get some samples from Sephora) then go with your usual shade/level of foundation.

*love* this stuff!!

I purchased the medium set a few weeks ago and now that I've gotten the routine down, my skin actually feels better.

I took bm to the gym with me a few times - I didn't have any cotton balls, so I just used two pieces of scotch tape over the holes in a +. Worked very well in keeping the powder in line!

I may try ebay for eye shadows - they're just too expensive individually, and I'm a commitment-phobe when it comes to the monthly eye shadows...

If fair is just a shade or two too light for you, I definitely wouldn't go to medium, I would try fairly light first and then light. Usually they have samples out to try at Sephora, I would probably go that route. Also, if you purchase the one you think you will need and then you are unhappy with it, you can return it to Sephora even after you've used it - just FYI.

I am fair skinned and I use fairly light for concealing and light for my foundation - it works pretty well for me.

To Katy, Laura, looch & 2kcougar
Thanks so much for your information. I'm going to try the light foundations.
Because I like the stuff so much, I wear the fair foundation anyway. But I think I wouldn't look so ghostly if I add alittle warmth.
So since I got such a good response, I have 2 other questions:
1. For those of you with my coloring, do you have a preferred shade of blush?
2. For everyone, do you commit to one brand only or do you use other brands of make-up with your b.m. minerals?
oh, I forgot, just curious, what does "i.d." stand for ?

I'm very fair, and I use Fairly Light for my foundation and cover-up. I'd love to hear also what other people are using for a blush. I've been using a Cargo blush- Gotham- and I love the color, but I'd love to find a BM blush.

I use warmth all over, as a blush/bronzer. I purchased the all over color true, which i use only as a blush on days when i don't wear warmth.

I use exclusively BM now, with the exception of eyeshadows (i don't wear eyeshadow). I sometimes use nars blush in nico, as a highlighter, but i don't plan on repurchasing it once i run out.

Blush: I use NARS "orgasm" blush, generally, but my friend just sent me some of her all over color in 'clear radiance' I think it's called, so I used that today. I used to use Clinique 'plum gorgeous'. Sometimes I use the warmth that came w/ my kit, but I am fair and I don't like a dark blush color, so most of the time I don't.

Other make up: I have a lot of different kinds of make up, and I still use a mix. On any given day I use BM foundation, NARS or BM blush, BM or Smashbox or Clinique eye shadow, Smashbox gel eyeliner, Blinc Kiss Me or Prescriptives mascara. I would definitely say most of my recent make up purchases have been BM stuff (mostly eye shadows, I'm an addict), but I still mix in my other stuff.

MLA
03-06-2006, 08:20 PM
Blush: I use Rose Radiance or Warm Radiance (Warmth is way too dark for me) when I just want a little color. I use Beauty or True when I want a bit more.

Oh, and to give you a point of reference, I use a mixture of Fair (1.0) and Fairly Light (1.2) for my foundation -- I'm pretty pale.

Other makeup: I use BM for eyeshadow but not exclusively -- often, though, I'll just use a little of whatever blush I'm using to brighten up my eyes. I use Revlon Unstoppable mascara, and I'll use just about any company's lipcolor if I like the color.

Ok, I am a BE addict, but there is something I can't figure out.

I am a fair, fair, fair redhead- you know, the type who has blue undertones to her skin because you can see the veins underneath and is ghostly pale. I used to really have a tough time finding the right foundation because they were all too dark.

I was originally "made under" at a BE store, and my foundation color is Medium! I've been using it for a while now, and it really is the right color. It does work best if I do the "sandwich" and apply the MV first.

I would say $8 would be a good price for a 2g container by itself. But, 2g isn't going to last very long, probably less than a month. A regular sized container ($25 retail) is 9g.

FYI for everyone, I just bought a 45g container of Mineral Veil on ebay for only $28 BIN! I was shocked at how cheap it was as I go though that pretty fast. I'm planning on refilling my 13.5g container ($19 retail) with it.

I have seen the infomercials on BE and I wondered if anyone likes it and make them look as good as the ladies on TV. It seems like a great concept. I am thinking about buying some to try it out. Right now I am in the never-ending quest to find good makeup for my skin that is oily. Also a great foundation that matches my skin -someting that is difficult for women of color.

I use BE and I'm AA. My complexion shade is about the same as Halle Berry's and it's always impossible to find a foundation that matches. Everything was either too yellow or orange or pink. Well, I use BE Medium Tan (which, oddly enough, is lighter and more a match for my complexion than regular Tan - though that might work for summer).

Anyway, it's perfect for me. I love it.

My sister is very dark-skinned - like Grace Jones... and there was a very nice shade of BE that looked nice on her. I even used warmth on her face with no foundation and that looked wonderful.

I think I might purchase a starter kit for her.

It's easy to apply and the blushes are excellent because they have a lot of pigment.

I'm wearing warmth right now (with minimal foundation)...

FYI, if you decide to buy more eye shadows from BM, you should make sure to get either a "glimpse" or an "eye shadow." The "glimmers" are REALLY sparkley -- I only own a few of those because of how sparkly they are.

People who wear the eye shadows, etc - do you find that they stay on all day? I have a light purple semi-shimmery sort of sheer-ish shadow (maybe a glimpse/glimmer?) that goes on fine in the morning, but by mid-day it's almost completely worn off. Is there a trick for making them stick? I thought I read here previously people raving about their staying power.

I use the revver upper b/c it came w/ my kit. I use it as they say, first thing, and then I use my moisturizer over it, then concealer, then foundation. I can't tell if it makes a difference or not, but I'm running out of it, so I will probably go w/o it soon to see. I asked the girl in the store if it was just additional moisturizer or what, but all I could get her to say was that I could use my regular moisturizer on top 'if I needed extra moisture', which is not what I was asking. :p

ETA: Thanks for the shadow input y'all. I think I have a 'glimmer', the one that is practically translucent, so I think that's part of the problem. I thought I had read people use BE shadows w/o primer and they were so great, but I might have imagined that. I have plenty of liquid shadow bases to use, I just like omitting a step if possible. Oh well.

I use the barevitamins stuff, but I def. use it with moisturizer since it contains a lot of acids (that's why they claim it "revs" up your skin, the acid should be sloughing off the top layer of dead skin)

I thought it was helping smooth out my forhead a bit (lots of little bumps along my hairline) but I think that was wishful thinking. I can't use it on my cheeks because it dries out my skin too much. I just put it on my T-zone before my moisturizer in the morning. I don't know if I'll continue using it once it's gone, it wasn't part of my routine before so I'm not married to it.

If you want a less sheer look, you can "foil" your shadow. This basically means taking a droplet or two of water, putting it in your cap, adding some shadow and making a paste. Then you use the paste as your shadow. You get much more intense color that way.

RareMinerals is BE's new face-care system (as opposed to makeup). It's supposed to be "virgin" or "jurassic" soil from the Amazon with high concentrations of minerals. You put it on before bed, after your skin care regimen.

I ordered an eyeshadow brush to go with my colors, but no matter how little I put on the dang brush, the color floated all over the rest of my face. What am I doing wrong? Should I just use a regular sponge-tip applicator instead of the brush? I even tried using my finger to put it on and that didn't help much either. It ended up being so messy that I got really frustrated by the whole experience. And to top it off, the color I had put on ended up completely fading away in just a few hours. I guess I need some input here before I end up throwing away the stuff. :(

I mean, DH has seen me without makeup for years now, why bother? ;) No advice on the brow kit since I don't use it. But I love the Smashbox's BrowTech.

jimmysgirl424 - Are you doing the "swril and tap" with the eyeshadow before applying? Try that. I think the concept with loose minerals, the application is all the same. You'll want to get the excess off before applying. HTH.

I've also started using philosophy's supernatural mineral makeup just recently. Prior to that, I've also ventured out and tested several lesser known mineral makeup. I still use BM (since I still have quite a bit left), but all honesty, I like the look I acheive with philosophy a lot better (BM tend to make me look a little too shiny). Jane Iredale also provided me a nice matte finished look. There's a lot of small companies out there that offer mineral makeup.

I've been using BM for almost 2 months and I was pretty happy with the results. Over the weekend I stopped at Ulta to get Summer Bisque. The lady asked if I wanted her to apply it to see what it looked. She did, she put on Summer Bisques and the powders I normally wear, Light.

Well, I looked really really good! I look like what I want to look like, I mean, I haven't seen my skin that good and I didn't know BM was capable of giving me such fabulous skin! I noticed she used a lot more powder than I normally do....like A LOT more. Then she told me I wasn't using enough, and I think she's totally right.

Anyways, so the next day I applied BM the same way I saw her do it. But the results were not there. I have the same brushes she used, I have the same everything. What am I doing wrong? I've been practicing and practicing and for some reason I just can't get it right.

I thought I was doing ok until I saw her make me over and now I think I've been using BM all wrong.

Does anyone have suggestions? I've already watched the dvd like 3 times.

I know this was a discussion from a couple pages back, but I'm trying to catch up and just saw it. There is a mineral veil that is tinted, maybe this what looch is talking about?

I got a sample set off of eBay and it did not come with brushes. I just used some random Avon brush sets someone gave me for Christmas. I need to buy the bigger sizes because I love it,

BUT...

My only problem is that it seems the brushes are too big for the sample jars and I get it EVERYWHERE when I'm "swirling" and "tapping"...is this the case for the BE brushes?

I'm ready to get the full-sized sets....are the brushes ridiculously priced?

Question: have they stopped putting expiration dates on the pots? I just bought a foundation (9g) from ebay--there was no date and they had a pull-out ingredients list on the back vs. just a sticker. I just want to make sure this is the new packaging, and she's not recycling something old. I can't find pics online of the back of the pots:).

The best brush you can get is the full-sized kabuki, but you will need the regular sized pots (9g, $25) to be able to swirl that in the lid. That brush is $28 retail, but I got mine for less than $20 on ebay. Make sure you're buying the real thing, though. It gives such better coverage than the regular brush (flawless application brush) you get with the starter kit. I use that one for my mineral veil.

ktdelsur - The BE are brushes are okay in my opinion. They're better than most, and will get the job done. If you're planning on getting a kabuki brush, I would go for the one from Bobbi Brown instead. It applies much better! And as far as the swirling goes, I usually dump a little of the mineral powder into a small flat dish (like the ones you find at sushi restaurants for the wasabi & soy sauce), and do my swirling in there. It works a lot better for me.

BlackMagicRose - I have 2 of them that came in the kit, but I have yet to try it out. It suppose to highlight different areas. I'm just too lazy to add another step to my routine.

I'm not your coloring, but didn't want to leave your question unanswered. Based on your color description, I'm thinking you're more of a medium tan, or tan. I would try them both and see. Also, you might find your right color by mixing 2 shades together.

Hey everyone. I used to wear BE religiously until I ran out of Mineral Veil and just did not have the money to buy new. So, now I am going on e-bay to look for mineral veil and bisque. Do any of you have any sellers you buy from and are happy with?

Also, have you used the primer, does it work? What moisturisure is best with BE?

Colorful Sprinkles is a great Ebay BE store. I've used two primers, neither from BE, and they both work well: MaryKay Oil Mattifier & Smashbox photofinish. For moisturizer I use MaryKay Timewise although I'm thinking about trying out something more affordable for a while.

I stopped in a BM boutique recently, and one of the sales assistants showed me how to apply the eyeliner. She recommended wetting the brush rather than trying to add the water to the lid of the jar. I also picked up a smaller brush. She told me the flat edge brush is harder to use, although it's supposed to be good for blending.

I've bought several eyeshadows, although most are neutrals/lighter tones. For those of you who use the eyeshadows, what color combos do you like to use? I have Adventure, Cultured Pearl, Precious, Cashmere, Water Lily, Purrfect, and Queen Linda e/s, along with Amethyst and Bronze Leaf eyeliners.

I don't use BM eyeshadows exclusively, but when I use them I like Cultured Pearl, Bare Skin, Clear Radiance (I know it's not a shadow, but I like it on my lids), Hopscotch, Rose Pearl. Often I'll just use bisque as a base (actually, I always use bisque as a base) and then just add a little of whatever blush I'm using (either Beauty or Rose Radiance).

I'm trying to decide what all over face color or blush to buy. I'm specifically wanting something I can wear in my wedding but then I'll use it after that too. My make-up for the wedding will be smokey eyes with dark purples and kind a mauvey pink lipstick. Seeing as I'm going dark and dramatic there, I want a sheerer pink wash on my cheeks. Maybe Beauty or what about Golden Gate? I'm also looking at Glee. I need some advice b/c there are so many to choose from!

I bought the starter kit from sephora after hearing such great things, and having the sales associate do my face. I LOVE the way it looks but it stings when I sweat! I am wondering if I am just getting used to it or I will have to take it back. Has anyone else had this problem? Other than that I adore it and would be sad to have to take it back.

Katy
07-09-2006, 06:39 PM
Etoile, my face stings when I first put it on, and then slightly if I sweat. More than likely, you have a slight allergy/sensitivity to one of the many minerals. If you can handle it, or if it fades away (as it does for me) than I'm not so sure I'd worry about it. There is another brand of mineral make up out there that leaves out whatever that "irritant" out of their product.

Linz

I have been using bare minerals for about 3 months now. I love it. I could never find a powder that matched my skin tone and bare minerals does and the coverage has always been great. But I am 3 months away from getting married and all of a sudden I am breaking out unbearably. I have heard that bare minerals clears up your face in some situations and I wash my face every morning and night so I don't really get why this is happening. I am sure a lot of this has to do with stress due to my wedding but this is worse than my face ever was in high school with puberty and hormones and everything. I am just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar to this happen. I also get the tingly face thing when I sweat.

Etoile - You might be allergic to the talc. Did you use mineral veil? Try using it without and see if you still get the itchiness. Like Katy said, there are plenty of other mineral makeup out there, some do not contain talc so you still have options if BM doesn't work out for you.

Ok, I'm glad I"m not alone. So far (day 3) I have not had too much stinging and my skin looks amazing. I can handle a little stinging as long as my face doesn't break out in big red welts.

Well, Bare Minerals is essentially a loose powder foundation, that's naturally based (minerals). To me, using BM foundation and eyeshadows, etc. gives a softer look than traditional makeup, but they have brighter colors than what I use. If you have a Bare Escentuals boutique nearby, you might want to check it out. Some Sephora and Ulta stores also carry it too (but not the entire line).

Bobbi Brown is supposed to be a good makeup line, it's just a lot different than Bare Minerals. I wouldn't tell you to chuck out your new stuff, but definitely check out Bare Minerals. I used to use liquid foundation, but I like the BM a lot better. HTH!

07-12-2006, 10:38 AM
schmeevee, I agree w/ purplerose. I think BM is pretty natural looking once it settles in your skin. I never feel like I look like I have foundation on. During the winter, I contemplated switching back to liquid foundation. After checking out Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier, I decided I couldn't go back to liquid. I actually didn't like Bobbi's foundation and didn't think they had much of a selection. It's either moisture rich foundation or oil free, nothing in between. Laura Mercier was better but pricey.

I think now that I've been using BM for 2yrs. it's hard to switch back to a liquid. The look is totally different and even though they tell me the liquid foundation looks natural and blends well w/ my skin, it still looks like I have foundation on. Not the case w/ BM. It's also much easier to apply and doesn't require the same kind of blending that liquid foundation requires.

I had ordered a few of the little BM samples a while ago, but had completely forgotten about them, so after finding this thread I decided to give them another try, and I love the stuff! So much so that I purchased the Light Foundation and Mineral Veil on eBay yesterday and can't wait for them to arrive! It just feels so much lighter than the liquid foundation I've been using, and I really like the coverage it gives. I don't think I'll be going back this time. :)

One question about the All Over Face Cover - what would be the best color to get? I have light skin so would Warmth or Soft Focus Warmth be better? I'm currently wearing #3 foundation and it's not too dark if that gives a better idea. TIA.

I prefer Glee as my all over face cover. I don't have warmth, my mom does and it seems to dark *even though you are just supposed to use a teeny tiny bit*. I am very tempted to get the Soft Focus Warmth. It's more finely milled and "sheerer" looking. I have SF Glee and love it as well.

I don't use warmth -- it's WAY too dark for me (I wear a mixture of 1.0 and 1.2). What I've found I like is Warm Radiance -- it's much softer. I'm not sure if it's the same thing as Soft Focus Warmth, though.

How exactly does one wear an all over face color? I've heard people talk about them and when I see it on the informercial, it looks good. However, I don't known when to apply it ... last I'm thinking? And do you still wear blush?

Advice anyone?

ignutzz
07-14-2006, 12:54 PM
sea74 I use Warmth to give me a bit of a tan glow on my cheekbones, outer forhead, nose bridge and then use it as a mild eyeshadow. For me, I put on the foundation, then lightly dust on Warmth with a smaller brush like I would do if I wore blush. I often layer it with a touch of the shimmer powder too.

Also, if I've been applying self tanner to my face, I'll add a little Warmth to my foundation to darken it slightly to match the new skintone. During the winter I mix it with my loose powder to get a softer tannish glow.

I think "all over" means you can use it anywhere, not that you should use it everywhere. KWIM? :D

Hi, I started using BE a month or so back, and I LOVE it; I had to get my fiance's parents to pick up the fairly light/light starter pack duty free at San Francisco Airport, as I'm a New Zealander, and it was a good way to get all the brushes and such that are hard to get here. Anyway, I'm totally sold on it, and want to wear it for my wedding in October. Just wondered if any of you had worn it for your weddings, how it showed up in photos, how long it lasted, and what your tips are to get a fairly full polished looking cover like you'd generally want for a wedding. I have the foundation, warmth face colour and mineral veil, with the mini kabuki brush, flawless coverage brush and the concealer brush that come with the pack. The eyeshadows are expensive here, and the range of colours is fairly limited for those and lipstick, so I probably will wear normal eyeshadows and lipstick.

I wore it for my wedding and it was great. I used Smashbox Photo Finish as a primer and that helped keep the oilies at bay all day. It looked great in photos; just like I had great natural skin. Most of my bridesmaids used BE for the wedding too. Here are a couple pictures (unfortunately, I don't have any really close-up ones on my computer):

I didn't use it for my wedding, but I third Smashbox's primer. I also sandwhich my foundation with mineral veil. Then conceal with bisque. I get ALL day coverage. Love it. Also for my eyes I use Urban Decays eyeshadow primer and it gives the shadows major staying power.

Hmm, don't think we get either Urban Decays or Smashbox in New Zealand, mostly just the biggest brands - Mac, Bobbi Brown, Clinique and all the Revlon/L'oreal etc, plus NZ and Australian and European brands. Any suggestions from those ranges?

I use MAC paints as an eyeshadow primer and it is amazing! They consider it to be an eyeshadow b/c you can get a variety of colours. I use stilife if I want a shimmery base and untitled if I want a basic neutral base. They make the BE eyeshadows really come to life.

Did anyone else get the giant pot of mineral veil from nordstrom? It's listed as 3 oz, but I heard it's 1.58 oz. It comes with a compact which normally runs $25. I consider the set to be a good buy at $38.

Clinique's Touch Base for Eyes is great as a shadow primer. I like Canvas and Buff Lighting in Light. I never get creases anymore in my shadow.

I didn't get it from Nordstrom, but I did get a huge pot on Ebay. It's at least 3x the size of the "large" $19 one. I got it for $25 or so, so a great deal. I just refill my smaller one with it.

Well I used Soft Focus Glee today for the first time and just love it! It gave my face a nice healthy color and all around glow...so nice. :) However, when using the Kabuki brush, the bristles kept falling out. Has this happened to anyone else on a new brush, or did I get a bum product?

I just started using Bare Escentuals a week ago and so far its working really well. My skin gets really oily in the summer so usually all the makeup comes off by noon or earlier. I read some of the advice from this thread before using it and decided to try a mineral veil sandwich. It works! :D The make up stays on until the end of the day! Thanks!

New use for BM....evening out a sunburned face (bad girl, I know). Yesterday we were at the pool all day and I have major raccoon face, especially a crimson nose. I used my bare minerals to even out my face and it was wonderful. You can barely tell! I will be much more careful in the future about my sunscreened nose, but for now, in case anyone needs a quic fix......

I want to play with all they eyeshadows, and I'm having to fight the urge to buy them all! I figure I should just stick to the "normal face" stuff for now. I'm trying to decide which all over face color I like best. I got samples of Warmth, True, Glee (which I used as an eyeshadow today, it was pretty) Rose Radiance and Clear Radiance. Any tips, suggestions, favorites, other must haves? What can't you live without? (I also have the foundation, mineral veil, bisque, and well rested). Thanks!

ITA this is the best way to learn- it helped me so much to see how much I should be using, how the brush should look, how to put the minerals on the brush, etc.

The only thing I do different (that I love) is the "mineral veil sandwich"- put the mineral veil on first thing and last thing to fight the oilies and to keep it all in place. It works wonders!

Sposa06
08-19-2006, 01:40 PM
All right. I've watched the DVD, I've seen the LJ demo. I've tried not doing the mineral veil sandwich (even though the primary reason I decided to try BM is because of all the things people said about how it keeps shine away all day), I've tried using less mineral veil, less foundation, more foundation, buffing harder, buffing more lightly ... I've tried everything I can think of. And I can never get a decent amount of coverage. I also always end up with dry, flakey patches. And my skin still gets shiny a few hours later (I've worn it around the house a few times for a day).

I exfoliate and moisturize my skin regularly. It doesn't get flakey with pressed powder, which is what I normally wear. And it's what I wear when I wash all the BM off and start over.

I'm really frustrated and disappointed. I was so excited to start using this stuff! Any ideas?

Here is what I do. Hope it helps, or gives you some ideas.

I'm always getting complimented on my skin and face. People don't comment that I have great makeup up, but that my skin is flawless and my face is beautiful.

I wash my face with cetaphil or noxema.

I apply an even layer of smashbox face primer. Grab my MV and using my big kabuki buff it all over my face. Then I use the handi buki brush and dump a little foundation into the lid. I swirl, tap into the brush, and before I swirl, I mist two sprays of water onto the brush. I bought a mini bottle at walmart and fill it with water. Then I buff it into my right side and chin. I repeat to finish my left side and forehead. I buff till the brush is dry. It dries pretty quickly, because you are just misting it. I buff till my hand hurts usually. LOL. Gotta buff, buff, buff!

Then with the flawless application brush, I use glee as my blush. Once the Glee is on, then I again use my big kabuki and finish with another layer of MV.

Then I do my eyes and lips

HTH.

If you have moisturizer, you can mix in the foundation with it to make it a liquid foundation. It's not quite the same, but it's something. Of course, that doesn't help you with Mineral Veil.

Or you could buy some cheap brushes at the drug store to get you through.

Sposa06, you're not the only one. I like my Bare Minerals okay, but I really don't think they're the end-all-be-all everyone makes them out to be. The makeup does have a tendency to get shiny after a few hours of wear, which is bothersome to me, and I sometimes get the dry patches, too. Shiny face + dry patches = not cute. That said, if I use a decent moisturizer and sandwich the mineral veil, it looks pretty decent. I'll probably go back to my MAC Studio Fix when I run out of BM.

For those of you that tend to get shiny with BM, you might want to give Everyday Minerals a try, as they offer foundations in semi-matte and matte formulas. I was loving BM, but then started reacting badly to the bismuth oxychloride in the makeup, so had to make the switch to another brand and came upon them. Just a thought. :)

I have a few questions...

~What is the difference between the regular kabuki brush and the baby buki brush?

~When you all use the blush, do you go over your face from one cheek, over your nose and to the other cheek like the DVD showed? (Im pretty sure I saw that technique in the video)

TIA!!

I just discovered BM, and am happy with it.

I usually have very dry skin, which at first was problematic with the BM powder. But I just started to take better care of my skin by using a cleanser with glycolic acid once in the morning and once at night, followed by moisturizers, and then when I apply BM, I have ZERO problems with flaking or an oily sheen after awhile, even though I live in ULTRA sunny Phoenix. The BM stays on if my time in the sun isn't too terribly long.

The products I use are as follows:
Morning...
MD Forte Facial Cleanser III
Clinique Turnaround Concentrate skin renewer
Avon Nutura replenishing cream

...have a couple cups of coffee and plan my schedule for the day while I wait for it all to sink in. Then apply BM.

Night...
Avon Solutions True "Pore-fection"
MdForte facial cream III

I was getting the itchy-burning feeling just a few minutes after I put the stuff on (especially with Soft Focus Glee) and it would last for about 20 minutes. Not only that, but I was getting all these little bumps on my face from it too, so I finally had to make the switch. So this is my 3rd day with Bare Minerals- I watched the DVD (they did very well with the subconscious selling thing- by the time it was over I wanted to buy every product I'd seen used!) and I think I've already gotten the hang of it. I do the mineral veil "sandwich" and although my skin does still get oily by the end of the day, with the BM it almost looks like a "glow" instead of just an oil slick like when I use regular foundation and powder. I am satisfied so far..... my brushes have also shed a bit, but no more than my powder and blush brushes.

I never moisturize. Shame on me. I do use the smashbox primer and the description says: Smashbox makeup artists use this product to create a perfect canvas for foundation application. The silky blend of vitamins and antioxidants does double-duty as a primer and a mattifier, while the unique formula helps to inhibit the destruction of collagen, and fills in fine lines.

I used an old BM container top to swirl the EM stuff – I keep a few of them around so that I have something to put minerals in when traveling (I don’t like to bring the full sized foundation containers – I use the bisque containers for that).

Disneygirl & Kugrrly -- You probably aren't using enough if you're not getting the coverage you want. And if you're not liking the way you look by 10a, you may want to try the Mineral Veil Sandwich technique or use PhotoFinish by Smashbox as a primer, which helps with the shinies. Also, you should use a concealer brush to apply the minerals to your problem areas and then buff over it; I find that works well.

Update on the Everyday Minerals samples. I've used them for the past three days, and I'm not thrilled with them. They seem heavier than BM, and it's much more obvious that I'm wearing them. I think I'll probably stick w/BM.

haven't tried BE, so can't compare.

I have tried EM a couple times and think it's pretty good. I think I ordered the wrong color though. I think the matte and intensive is great for shine control. What I really like is the fact that when I work out in it, my face doesn't sting like it does with BE. So I make sure to put EM on in the morning when I know I'm going to the gym in the evenings.

Regarding keeping make-up on all day. I had the same problem when I first starting using it. The key is to use Smashbox Photo Finish Primer which helps keep it on most of the day. I agree though that it won't stay on like normal make-up so I keep a small travel pouch in my purse to help reapply it.

I have had great success with BM. I get great coverage and it lasts all day. Some things that helped me were to switch moisturizers. I was using one that was a little too heavy, and it caused the BM to "slip off" for lack of a better term. I also found that I would have to pre-conceal using the max concealer brush and well rested minerals. It's just the right color to cover my dark undereye circles. I then do the swirl-tap-buff thing twice to get the perfect coverage. I then use just warmth or dusk as a blush. The mineral veil is too light for me, so I mixed it with a bit of warmth, and now, I use that on oilier days.
HTH someone. The good news for me is that my skin has never looked better. I don't break out anymore, and my skin is so much softer than when I was using liquid foundation.

for some reason I can not get the BM to be even on my kabuki brush. Seems like they are all on one side of the brush.(gesh i hope that makes sense) i looked a tutorial and she has the BM so evenly disbursed over her big Kubuki brush. How can i get my brush to look the same? any tips?

I've tried matte, semi-mattee and intensive. They all left me really shiny. They just don't work for me, I guess. Oh well!

I got my free EM samples last Friday. I wore them all weekend, and I'm impressed! My face never got shiny, they lasted all day and never looked splotchy, and I had no allergic reaction at all. I did get matte..... so maybe that helped!

The matte did nothing for me. Funny how everyone has a different experience with these things. I'm totally bummed that I didn't like EM since they're less expensive, but oh well. At least I've found something that I *do* like, even if it's pricier than I'd like.

Okay from everything I've heard, I'm dying to try BM! But I have to say the info is pretty overwhelming? Can someone give me the "must have" basics to start out with? I don't wear any eye makeup other than mascara, so should I just be looking at a foundation, mineral veil and brush to start with??

Yup. Foundation, mineral veil and a brush (maybe two brushes -- a kabuki brush for the foundation and a "flawless application" brush for the MV). If you need to cover dark under-eye circles or need to do any other concealing, I recommend Bisque, as well.
