I didn't see a thread for chihuahuas, so I started one.
This is Monte. His full name is Montezuma Quetzalcoatl. He'll be 1 year old on July 18.

This is his brother, Ren. His ears don't usually stand up unless he's defending his turf. He's 2.

I don't have a picture right now, but I have a female long haired chihuahua. Her name is Historia, but we call her Histy. She's 4 years old and weighs three pounds.

Here's my sweetie Ollie. :) He's a 5 yr old male short haired.

We had a scare this weekend- Ollie has a collapsed trachea. :( Which is evidently pretty common in our pups...it just scared me to death. His cough is so bad- but it's getting better. We went to the vet and got some medicine. :)
It's amazing how much they grow on you, huh? :)

This is our overweight chihuahua Joey. Most people ask what kind of dog he is... I guess he doesn't look much like a "standard" chihuahua. He has papers and is a full-bred chihuahua, I swear. :D He's about six years old now, I think. He's so smart and thinks he's human. He's also very protective of food. LOL.
Joey when he was a puppy:

These next two pictures are kind of old, but he still looks the same:

A more recent picture of Joey with his pomeranian sister Minnie (he thinks she's his girlfriend :o):

Did someone say chihuahuas? We love ours - they are mixes though.
JRPAGV - Joey and Piper have something in common - the one floppy ear. When she's excited they both go up but normally one flops. I love it.
The thing I love about this breed is that they are very smart and, while they are loyal and such, they don't let themselves be pushed around. We also are doomed with blankets all over the place because they are always cold. It can be 90 degrees and they will want a blanket!

I don't have chihuahuas, but my sister and parents do.
My sister's little guy is Carlito:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5dd26b3127cce90c6c87fadad00000116108IZs2LNo1ba
He's a pure bred and such a cutie. We have a lab, so going to pick up Carlito is MUCH different than picking up our boy. i almost throw him in the air. He's just over a year now.
My parents then decided to get Coco:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d905b3127cce9355b1ae34e000000016108IZs2LNo1ba
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d905b3127cce9355cedef50700000016108IZs2LNo1ba
She's about six months. Her previous owners didn't take the time to train her properly then got made when she'd go potty in the house so they got rid of her. My parents have been pretty patient with her and she's getting better.
Both are teacups, but Coco I don't think is pure in that aspect. She's already a bit bigger than Carlito and she's younger. Coco is still warming up to DH and I (our pup scared her so she's not too keen on us still). Carlito loves his aunt and uncle though. we always get kisses from him when we visit. :)

awww!! cute puppies!!
question for y'all... how are chihuahuas with allergic-to-dogs people? DH & I are thinking about getting a dog in the next few months but since I'm allergic to dogs, we have to find the one that's not gonna make me sneeze 24/7...

We call him the Nautical Dog because he loves to be out on the water and swim. Funny though.. he HATES baths!

Kiara LOVES to be on the boat, but HATES the water. Although, she can swim.

I might become a chi mama soon... any advice for a new parent?

J&T2005- My baby always has to be with me. She is very clingy--I don't know if it is just my dog or most chihuahuas. She is a bed hog as well:o  and we have a king size bed!!!!! Overall, she is a really good dog. She doesn't eat as much as a bigger dog, although she would probably drink the lake dry:) She is very protective of DH and I and Daisy, our puppy. Kiara has a little longer hair (she is mixed with a pomeranian), so she does shed a bit, but overall it's not so bad.
That probably doesn't help much:o
Anyways, let us know if you do become a chi chi mom!
ETA: I would never trade my baby in for anything!! I love her to death! I think chi chi's make great "kids" !!!

Quick question for all you chihuahua owners:
My puppy is very outgoing and playful. Unfortunately, he has recently taking to biting quite a bit as a form of play. I've tried the usual firm "No!", followed by giving him his chew toys and praising him when he begins to chew on those (instead of my hand  ). This worked well in the beginning but I fear that the effect is wearing off and he is becoming more aggressive. I know that Chihuahua's have a tendency to try and be the boss in the home and I really would like to prevent that! Does anyone else have (or had) this problem? Any advice would be appreciated :)

Hopefully no one will think this is cruel, but I flick mine on their noses. After a couple times I just have to put my hand up like I'm going to do it and they stop. I don't give them a full on flick, just enough to startle them.

I don't think it sounds cruel, I had actually heard something similar from someone else...they suggested I "bump" his nose with my thumb. Unfortunately, this can be difficult as he is trying to bite at the same time, and he's so tiny (10 weeks) it takes some accuracy to even get at his nose :o !
Thanks for the tip though...I'll try that one out.

We don't have a chi but we solved the nipping problem by using a "No!" and spraying our IG with spray bottle. He's hates the spray bottle. The spray bottle method stopped him from chasing our cats too.

Thanks, Keska! I'll run to the store tonight and try that method out. For the past two days we've put him in a "time out" in his crate when he's gotten too aggressive with the biting (after first trying several No's!) and that seems to have helped as well.

Your doggie sounds just like mine! I had always thought chihuahuas were yappy annoying little dogs, but now that I have one, she is my favorite pet. Here's her dogster page. http://www.dogster.com/dogs/541572 I don't have a home page but my dog does - who's the boss here? LOL :D

Thanks for bumping this for me Jenni! I am going after work to look at a chihuahua puppy. Hopefully I will have something to keep me company. I am living alone for the first time ever and it gets really lonely AND my STBXH never let me get a dog so that is the first thing I wanted to go out and get!
