I recently had two people tell me about Weight Watchers and how they're "lifetime" members. They said this happily, but I have no idea what that means. Can someone please explain?

A lifetime member is one who has attained his/her goal weight with Weight Watchers, and maintained it for 6 weeks.

After the 6 week maintenance period, you can attend meetings for free as long as you stay within 2 pounds of your goal. If you leave and then need to go back, you don't need to pay a joining fee (ever--hence the "lifetime"), just the cost of meetings as long as you are above goal.

A Lifetime Member is one who has reached her goal weight and are on "maintenance" for 6 consecutive weighins (no more than 2 lbs fluctuation over your goal weight). Once you reach your goal and you achieve the stable maintenance phase, you can continue to attend meetings w/out having to pay a fee.

Thank you. So the meetings are entirely free after the six weeks or the joining fee is waived but the meetings still cost?

Meetings are free as long as you are within 2 lbs of your goal weight. As a lifetime member, you only need to weigh in once a month (v. weekly).
