Crafters – what would you use to "set" marker on fabric?

My daughter just earned a baseball award, and was presented with a cap autographed by a player who was in the AAGPBL. (All American Girls Professional Baseball League - the players portrayed in the movie "A League of her own.)

Anyway, the white cap has black pen on it, and I don't want anything to happen to it. Can anyone recommend a product that will keep the pen crisp, and the cap clean of things like finger prints? (No one is going to wear it, but I suspect it will be handled once in a while.)

Maybe that archival mist stuff? It's used in scrapbooking, but maybe it would work for this as well. I'd check with the manufacturer.
