For years & years I wore a foundation by Lancome that I L-O-V-E-D. Then, to my horror, it got discontinued. I switched to Superbalanced Makeup by Clinque & have been wearing that for just over a year. It's alright, but I don't like it as much as I did my old Lancome stuff.

I have "problem skin"...all sorts of problems. I get occasional acne breakouts (usually on my chin), I have a very uneven complexion with lots of red patches, etc. I get oily in my T-zone...yet I have a condition called sebhorric dermatitis (sebhorria) that makes my skin be super dry & flaky in certain areas - mainly my chin (so yes, I'm dry & flaky in the same place I breakout...go figure). Anyhoo - I'm a mess, & need a good full-coverage makeup!

Yesterday I decided to go check out some other brands of foundation at the dept. store instead of buying a new bottle of Clinique. I ended up at the Prescriptives counter because I remember reading raves about them from other ladies on the WC in the past, & I was interested in finding out about their custom color foundation.

So I had her mix up a custom color of foundation for me (per her recommendation). Color-wise it looked good, so I bought it. It was SUPER expensive - $62 for the bottle!

But after wearing it for a few hours, I looked in the mirror I started noticing that it seemed to be settling into the wrinkles around my eyes & into the pores on my nose (I have sorta large pores, especially on my nose). It also seemed to cake up over the dry patches on my chin more than my Clinique foundation ever did.

So...I'm not sure what to think. I'm going to wear it again today & see how it goes, but if the coverage really doesn't last all day & it draws attention to my wrinkles & pores & dry skin more than my other makeup, I don't think I want to waste my money on such an expensive product that doesn't meet my needs!

Do you think they'd give me my money back if I returned it, even though it was a custom-made foundation that they mixed up especially for me? I didn't think to ask about their return policy when I bought it.

Sigh...I really was hoping that I'd *love* this makeup as much as I did my old Lancome foundation. If I loved it, I would be totally willing to spend the $$. But if I don't love it, I don't want a $60+ bottle of foundation sitting around in my bathroom cupboard collecting dust.

ETA - I did wash off all of my makeup & re-do my face after I got home yesterday, because she'd put the new makeup on top of my already-done face. I thought maybe I just had too many layers of makeup on & that was making me look funny. But a few hours after re-applying everything, I started to feel like the makeup was settling into my pores & wrinkles again like it did earlier in the day.

bring it back. They should return it no problem.

Definitely return it. They'll be very nice about it. :)

I highly recommend the Makeup Alley (www.makeupalley.com) boards. If you've never checked them out, people review all kinds of different products, so you might be able to find something similar to your beloved Lancome. Also, if you do a search on a message boards over there or ask if you don't find anything, someone is likely to be able to recommend something very similar.

Wherever you purchased the foundation will most definitely return for you if you don't like the product.

I'm not sure if you bought the custom-color foundation to even out your skin tone(which is what Prescriptives custom-color is most popular for) or for blemishes? What look are you going for? Because if you just want to cover up a few imperfections, I highly recommend just using concealer on certain spots with a super thin brush(i use a MAC eyeliner brush and it works wonders) and then ever so lightly dab it with my ring finger. It really does the trick and stays on all day long as opposed to foundation which comes off almost immediately. Have you heard of makeup primers?

Thanks ladies! :D I switched back to my Clinique foundation for the past couple of days, but I'm going to wear the Prescriptives one more time tomorrow & see what I think before I decide whether or not to take it back.

lawyerlee, I'll have to go check out that website - thanks for posting the link!

ssstephanie, I bought the foundation mainly to even out my skin tone...I have a concealer that I wear to cover actual blemishes. However since my skin tone is so uneven plus I have blemish scars, etc. in several areas, I feel like I need a "full coverage" foundation rather than a light-medium coverage one.

I do need to find a new really good concealer, though. The one I have is almost gone & it's some no-name brand that isn't even made anymore. :p It's a cream type of concealer...most of the more liquid ones I've tried don't seem to cover my acne scars very well. Maybe that website lawyerlee posted will have some good concealer advice. Problem is I don't think I can/want to buy something like that online because how would I know what shade to buy? So I need to get some recommendations of products I can go find in a local store, I think. ;)

I have heard of makeup primer, but I've never used one.

You'll definitely want to get some recommendations in person on concealer shades. I'd always assumed that concealer was used under eyes only. But some cool MAC employees told me I could use it anywhere, given I had the right shade for my entire face. I think the hipper makeup brands will show you to experiment with different stuff to figure out what works best for you.

My face is home to some huge pores and acne-prone skin, so I try to avoid foundation on every nook and cranny. I always thought I had uneven skintone and it was actually a Prescriptives gal who told me that just because I have pink undertones on peach skin didn't mean I had uneven skintone. She talked me out of buying the custom-colored foundation!!! Whatever you end up with, try using a makeup brush to put it on. I swear it works so well!! My teeny, tiny eyeliner brush is a bit time-consuming but it gives such great coverage. I even use artsy strokes across my face to even it all out by making little X's when I put the concealer on.
