Okay, I've heard this talked about before over on the other site. I picked up the silver can at Walgreens (it was on sale), but I also noticed that they have a cream as well.

Who here uses it and can tell me HOW to use it. It said to remove it with a "spatula"!?!?!? How far into the bikini do you go? Do you trim first? Do you do the legs or underarms?

So many questions, I know. Can you help a girl (or three, or more) out?

I only used it on my bikini area and used the powder in the silver can. I liked the results but had to remove ALL the hair down there because it was difficult to control where the paste went. It was really great for the "brazilian" look though. I put lotion or vaseline on the inner girly parts though to keep them from getting burned by the paste. Also I trimed first. I did not use a spatula but a damp warm washcloth and just scrubbed a little bit. Also sometimes would just pull at the hair as it came out pretty easily.

Never used it on my legs or armpits. I don't think it would be time efficent since the results last as long as shaving and the powder takes a while to mix/spread/remove. Plus it is messy. It is great for the bikini area because you don't get shaving bumps or ingrown hairs. It is *really* smooth when you are done (which DH really liked ;) ).

I have some of the cream, and honestly, I don't think it's that great. I never get a very "clean" or smooth result, and I still get itchy about a day later. I haven't tried the powder, though.

Oh my, just seeing the name of this stuff again makes me burn! My skin is apparently too sensitive to use it. I followed everything exactly as the girls said to, and I got burned wherever it touched me. I threw the can away after that.

I wish it had worked though, cuz I'm tired of shaving, scared to wax, and too poor for laser hair removal!

My husband helped me to get this stuff to work right, and (in my most humble opinion) I don't think it's worth it. It's messy, it stinks to high heaven and, well, it's messy (worth saying twice).

ITA! I just didn't get what was so great about it. I wish I did because I hate shaving down there!

I found about Magic Powder the same way and I have loved it. I have the gold can, which is the fragrant kind I think. The smell isn't the best, but it works so well for me that I just go in the guest bath and open the window after. I only use it on my bikini area and I use it for more of a brazilian look. It usually lasts for three to four days and I don't get any ingrown hairs or bumps.

Okay, the best way to use it. I put a a big spoonful into a small plastic bowl and add enough water to make a thick paste. If it is runny, it doesn't stay well and is really messy. I usually play around with it until I get enough paste to cover the area and then slap it on. I wait about 8-10 minutes and then use a washcloth to rub it off. It works for me to take the washcloth in an upward direction, then rinse, and go over again. I haven't had any irritation and I use a mirror to watch out for certain areas! I'm not sure what the can says, but as you can tell, I don't follow the directions. Just thick paste, slap it on, wipe off! Hope it works for you.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I use the silver can. I don't notice a terrible odor. It lasts as long as shaving for me, but the bonus is the lack of bumps for summer. I need to get my can out!

What is it actually called? What stores sell it? CVS? Walgreens?

Agreed! I use it the same way Stephanie does and it works great. :)

what exactly does this stuff do? I tried reading through everyone's responses but I can't quite tell. Does it just minimize the hair, or does it actually remove it (like a nair product)?

It is supposed to remove hair, like nair. It is designed for men (african american men were pictured on the creame bottles) and so works for "tough" hair.

It burned like a mother on me, and didn't take my hair off. I was so sad after reading so many glowing reports. I'd never touch the smelly stuff again. I used the silver can btw, purchased at Wallgreens.

I tried a few other kinds also (nair type) and they didn't work well either. I'm not sure why. I have light and thin hair, I guess my skin is too sensitive to tolerate the chemicals.

I'm sticking with shaving, but I have a few tricks. I use "Coochie Cream" purchased at first thru Ebay and then from a novelty store (lover's lane). It works wonders as a shaving cream. I use a seperate shaver (from my leg one) and only use it for about 1-2 weeks before changing it out. Then after my shower I apply aloe vera to my skin. No red bumps :)

Good luck.

Can I just say this stuff works wonders on longer hair that has grown out. It doesn't leave a rough feeling and no bumps. I use the white can kind and it smells like rotten eggs. Sulfer. Peee eeew! It doesn't work to well for me on underarms and bikini line that isn't very grown out.

I've used this before and it worked great. I bought it at Walgreen's.

I've tried it once already and I'm lovin' it. Definately easy to use and much more "comfortable" results than shaving. The regrowth can still be a tad itchy, but not nearly as bad as with shaving or waxing, IMO

Is there any advantage to this stuff over waxing? It sounds better than shaving (I hate those damn bumps!), but if it only lasts for a couple days, it seems like waxing would still be the best bet. I am trying to decide whether to make a waxing appointment before my upcoming trip this weekend or try Magic Power. Thoughts?

I do the magic powder only because the esthetician I like costs $50 and is 2 hours away. I also had a really bad experience last time I got waxed, so I'm scared to go back.

I got bumps the last time I used the powder - I wonder if it's because I scraped the hair off to hard? What do you all do when the time is up? Just wipe it off gently, rinse off???

Katy

most of it came *right* off with the slightest pressure. But since I did such a sloppy job, I also scrubbed it quite a bit. I have like three "growing back" bumps, but otherwise, all is good!

What do you mix the stuff in? A disposable bowl? I mean I don't think I should use anything we might eat out of, right? Sometime throw away?

Katy

I just used disposable paper cups. But I just hit Sally the other day and brought a "highlight" brush and got a cheap plastic cup from IKEA to use. It should work fine :D

I must have gotten too close to my girly parts because I am burned down there now. :( Now I know what diaper rash must feel like. I borrowed a little of my DD's Desitin, but it is still burning. Any ideas?!?! :o

Katy
07-19-2005, 08:24 PM
yikes! I got pretty close and didn't seem to have a problem (but I still need to get closer still). Do you have any first aid cream, I'd try that.

MrsTazlvr

Can I put first aid cream THERE?

Katy
07-19-2005, 08:30 PM
dunno for sure, but you can put first aid on your face. Just dab a bit maybe? I don't know Cori, I'm just trying to think outside the box. What about Aloe, that can go anywhere, right?

MrsTazlvr

Hmmm, that's an idea. I guess I can wait until the morning and call the Dr. and see what he says. I am dreading taking DD in the pool tomorrow for swim class. Yikes!!!

you poor thing. I've burned my face before with nair and face bleach and whatnot. And I've heard about the burns down there from nair. Someone suggested lubing up with vaseline inside before putting on the powder mix - wonder if that would help (next time, anyway)

I read the thing about vasoline AFTER I had applied the stuff. I don't think there will be a next time. ;) LOL

It was a long time coming, but I did the second round of my Magic Powder. I have to say, it works 1000x better as a thick paste. So keep that in mind when you give it a whirl. This time around I also used a hair dying brush that I picked up from Sally - this made it SO much easier to apply.
