Mia is about 6 1/2 and is like most dachsunds a (wonderful) handful. I don't have that many pictures of her (she doesn't really like the camera) but here are a few:

I'd love to add my Buddy and Bella to the other adorable doxies on this thread!
Buddy is 4 and Bella is almost 2 and we've had them both since they were puppies.

Buddy's Bio: I love to fetch sticks and swim. At the lake last summer I was known as the 'doxie retriever' when I would jump in the lake to find the sticks anyone would throw for me. My mom and dad say I have OCD but that's only b/c I like my sticks to be perfectly smooth... so I break off all twigs before taking my branch in my mouth and proudly run around the backyard (making sure no one can take it from me). When I'm tired - I'M TIRED - don't fuss with me because I like my naps (especially with my dad on the couch). I'm more loving than my bratty sister Bella - I LOVE TO CUDDLE - but because I have a slight bladder control problem (I get a little nervous at times) she is know as the 'company dog' and I usually have to go upstairs and wait until everyone leaves :( I like only people that like me - show any kind of nerves and I will bark like I weigh 140 pounds instead of the 14 that I really am - I may even take a nip at you like I did to that mean old landlady a couple of years ago  But if you had to sum me up in 3 words I really am sensitive, playful and very loving (but again only to those who love me back).
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d927b3127cce92e3524b840100000016108IYs3Dlqxa4
Bella's Bio: I'm scrappy!!! You want to play? I'll play. You think you're leaving the house without me? I'll nip at your pant legs to remind you to take me with you! I especially love Sunday morning trips to Starbucks with mom (they give me treats at the drive through window). I'm a little ditzy - mom and dad think I have ADD - sometimes when I'm playing fetch I start to run but by the time I get to the fetch object I forget why I was running  Oh well - it's fun to chase my big brother Buddy around the yard... he's pretty cool even if he thinks I'm a little pesky at times - I know he loves me. I'm not much for cuddling but if you catch me at the right time I'll lick you like crazy! I love to be where the action is - even if that includes sittin' around and watching tv... as long as I'm near Buddy or Mom/Dad all is good in the world

Everyone's dachshunds are SO cute. But really, have you ever seen an ugly doxie? :p

Right before we moved, Vinny had back problems. We put him on a steroid and kept him in his kennel for about 3 weeks. We moved and he started to get better. He's 100% now and I am SO thankful. I was so afraid we were going to lose him. We've really changed his behaviors now- no sleeping on the bed and they're not allowed on the furniture. It's impossible to keep them from jumping and playing rough, but we thought that would help.

Doxie question for you:
How old were your doxies when they decided to be totally potty-trained?
What dog food do your doxies eat? What are their favorite treats?
I'm finding more and more that Milo hasa sensitive stomach, but he loves to chew on bones -- the only ones that I have found that don't make him puke are the cornstarch dental bones. The dental bone I tried out tonight, DOES NOT agree with him and now i get to pay the price!! (and so does my new couch!!

mrsliby2004 - Buddy and Bella are pretty good about going outside when they need to go - they knew what they should do by about 6 months but doing what they should do is a whole different story in our house (even today) :(
But since we've moved to our new house and installed a doggy door, the potty training thing is much better. Our problem is when it rains they both HATE going outside; and Mr. Boo (that's what we call Buddy) doesn't like anything hard or wet under his tush, so there are a few occassions when he sneaks a poo in our guest room rather than go outside  He totally knows better but he is a little on the stubborn side... he does what he wants, when he wants... typical dachshund
Their food - we feed them Eukanuba Small Bite which they seem to like. For treats - they love Iams Biscuits. After baths and grooming they get 'special treats' which is usually a slice of Kraft singles or some sort of people food. They're pretty cute b/c they go tearing to the kitchen after they get their baths or nails done b/c they know 'special treats' are in order!
And both Buddy and Bella love plain old rawhide - I know this could cause a huge debate (and I'm not an online debater) but we keep an eye on them and only let them chew for short periods of time. But rawhides are a treat for them and when they were puppies they really helped from not having other things chewed on (like our shoes, couches, mail, etc.).
Side note: We celebrate our dog's b-days too :) Here is a pic of Buddy's cake on his first birthday (made especially for dogs):

OMG -- total doxie personality!! Milo, we thought, had figured it out after we installed the doggie door, but then DH had surgery and stayed home all day with him. Now that DH has started leaving the house, Milo pees on the dining table leg out of spite I think!! ARGH!!
That's what I switched Milo to -- Eukanuba Small Bite. He was on Eukanuba Puppy when we got him fro the breeder, then when he turned adult I tried experimenting with "cheaper" foods which just led to him throwing up!!
The only thing I've heard about Rawhide is to be sure that it is made in the USA. Milo loves rawhide but he tears through it like nothing and swallows it all before I can get it from him! He'll swallow it when it is all long and slimy, and that's how it comes back out!!
I love that bday cake -- where did you get it? A doggie bakery or did you make it yourself? Too cute!!
Side Note: Buddy could be Milo's twin -- reading his bio sounded like Milo's bio, except for the water part!

mrsliby2004 - we got his cake at a doggy bakery - 3 Dog Bakery specifically - but there are 2 others in our area that specialize in dog treats. Every year for their b-days we go there and get them a special treat of some sort. :)
I think our dogs are twins too - Buddy always does little mischievous things! For instance, his favorite is to grab 1 shoe and place it in the middle of the floor once we leave the house. It's like he is trying to tell us "leave again, and the shoe is a goner!" - Too Funny!

mrsliby2004- Your Milo and my Vinny could be twins! He's adorable!!
teresa2mike- The dog cake is SO cute!! I bet they loved it!
Potty training: Same here- they know what to do, but don't always do it. Cookie is really bad and if she gets up before us and we don't hear her, she'll go inside. We've been keeping her in her kennel some nights and that seems to help.
Food: We feed our dogs Purina Beneful.
Rawhide: I get the dogs nylabone and they like it.

Things Dachshunds Must Try To Remember....
I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
The garbage collector is NOT stealing our stuff.
I do not need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm lying under the coffee table.
I will not roll my toys behind the fridge, behind the sofa or under the bed.
I must shake the rainwater out of my fur BEFORE entering the house.
I will not eat the cats' food, before or after they eat it.
I will stop trying to find the few remaining pieces of clean carpet in the house when I am about to throw up.
I will not throw up in the car.
I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell. I will not lick my human's face after eating animal poop.
"Kitty box crunchies" are not food; although they are tasty, they are not food.
I will not eat any more socks, Kleenex or napkins, and then redeposit them in the backyard after processing.
The diaper pail is not a cookie jar.
I will not wake Mommy up by sticking my cold, wet nose up her bottom end.
I will not chew my human's toothbrush and not tell them.
I will not chew crayons or pens, especially not the red ones, or my people will think I am hemorrhaging.
When in the car, I will not insist on having the window rolled down when it's raining outside.
We do not have a doorbell. I will not bark each time I hear one on TV.
I will not steal my Mom's underwear and dance all over the back yard with it.
The sofa is not a face towel. Neither are Mom & Dad's laps.
My head does not belong in the refrigerator.
I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Dad's driver's license and car registration.
I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
I will not roll around in the dirt right after getting a bath.
Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is not an acceptable way of saying "hello."
I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch when company is over.
The cat is not a squeaky toy; so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.
I will never again mess with a skunk. I now accept that they have every right to come into my yard. However, I will encourage my cat to attack them.

Ten Reasons to have a Dachshund
1. He is an ideal companion as a pet. He will follow you, love you, and amuse you all day every day
You are graciously allowed to share your bed & board with him. You will trip on him, and watch him laugh at your clumsiness.
2. He is a born sportsman. He will turn his nose to anything above ground, while below ground, he will, given his chance, hold his own with the best. Dachshunds were originally bred to dig badgers out of holes.
He will chase all pet cats, birds, & dogs from his exclusive territory (which is as far as the eye can see). He will also roto-till your fresh-laid lawn and new flower beds.
3. He is a born gentleman. His aloof dignity is above canine skylarking and petty yelping.
What they don't want to see and don't want to hear does not exist.
4. He is courageous to a remarkable degree and will stand up for his rights against any foe.
From behind a fence there is none braver.
5. He is odorless, always clean and easily housebroken.
You'd be odorless too from the daily baths needed made necessary because of finding "neat" things to roll in. House - broken is more like it. (Know a good handyman?)
6. He comes in several sizes, colors and coats to suit your special taste. The tiny miniatures also come in all three coats and colors; smooth, longhaired and wirehaired, and from a beautiful shiny black and tan to a rich Irish Setter red. There is no other breed which offers such a selection.
They are like peanuts, you can't stop with just one, and there is always a new variety or color or size to drool over.
7. He has a well founded reputation for being rugged and strong. Equally at home in either cold or warm climates.
If it is cold, they are in your bed or in their sweater. If hot, they grab the seat in front of the air conditioner and drink out of your ice tea glass.
8. He asks only that he be with you whether you live in a mansion or the most humble abode. He is at your side day and night and he will warn you if any strangers are lurking about.
He is willing to share all you have, if you eat dog food, he'll eat dog food. If you have steak, he gets steak ! You couldn't get rid of him if you wanted, and anybody stranger than you SHOULD get barked at.
9. He is most affectionate, and delights in riding in your car or sleeping close to you (if you will let him) at night, but he is content with his own bed and a simple cover that he can pull over his head, with just a shiny black nose to show his presence. Just to be near you and show his love for you is all he asks.
He is not stupid enough to let a good sucker out of his sight. People are such pushovers for the old "I love you, I love you" routine.
10. He is a wonderful companion for your children, and will take a lot of rough play and enter into the spirit of fun, for he is a born comedian. You can trust a Dachshund for they have never been known to betray a confidence.
They love kids, the younger the better, children can be blamed for so much that the "sweet li'l puppy wuppy" couldn't possibly have done (they don't realize how tall a fully stretched Dachshund can reach). A Dachshund will never write a tell-all unauthorized biography, but don't leave your pot roast within reach.
ONCE YOU HAVE OWNED ONE, YOU WILL NEVER BE WITHOUT ONE !!!!!
ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN OWNED BY ONE, THERE IS NO HOPE FOR YOU.

Doxie Poem - 1909
This little dog with ten inch clearance
Presents a ludicrous appearance
His legs are bowed, his feet turn out,
He gives us much to laugh about.
He's two dogs long, a half dog high,
In spite of which he's quick and spry;
So at his funny build don't smirk----
It's perfect for his special work.
For Dachshund plays a hero's role
In going down a badger's hole;
A badger is a savave fighter,
A vicious scratcher and a biter.
And folks who call him "dash-hound" show
Their ignorance and do not know
That dox-hoont is his proper name
In Germany from whence he came.

Dachshund Property Laws.
1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I'm chewing something up, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it just looks like mine, it's mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.

I'm a proud Dachshund mom! If I knew how to insert pictures I would!
I have a question - my almost 5-year old Lucy has a yeast infection in her ears. She went to the vet Friday and we are treating it with an ear wash and anti-bacterial drops. Anyhow, the veterinarian said this is a fairly common occurance in dachsunds (and other dogs with flappy ears) - I was so surprised. I had never heard that before and have grown up with dachshunds my whole life. Has anybody else had this problem?
It's kind of grossed me out because the vet said once we're through with this 2-week round of treatment we'll probably have to continue doing this ear wash thing weekly  It's just smelly and gross and I know that pet ownership isn't meant to be a glamerous endeavor - but this is just yucky!
My other cutie-pie-dachshund, Linus, evidently has the cleanest ears on the planet :D
...DH and I have been house/dog sitting for the past couple weeks and we are absolutely in love with our temporary little girl, Jessie:

Everyone's doggies are so cute- makes me want another!! I think 3 would be a little too much though. :)
I really love the variety of the breed. It's so nice to see the different colors and hair lengths.
nordey- LOVE your icon! I'd love to get the bun thing for my dogs, but I'm sure they wouldn't keep it on!
Sorry your dogs are having ear problems. I think it's pretty common in floppy ear'd dogs. We've been lucky not to have any problems so far, I hope that keeps up. At least you got the problem taken care of and have a way of preventing it. It might not be fun, but it's worth it and your doggie will be happy!

I can't stand it- dachshunds are SO cute!!
We just moved into a new neighborhood and we have 3 little boys next door. Our dogs stare out the window and I'm sure they've seen the dogs in the window. One time I was at the mailbox and heard the kids say, "hey- they have two really nice weiner dogs." Hee! Then yesterday I was taking the dogs out and heard them say to each other, "Is that them?" "Yep." Too funny. They haven't come up to the dogs though, which surprises me!

I'm so excited! My mom bought our Sabin-Monster 2 cute coats; one is a green fleece and the other is a cute black coat. My DH doesn't really like the idea of "dressing" the dog up, but I think a coat is fine. Mom also bought him a cute little santa hat with a scarf and reindeer antlers that have Christmas lights wrapped around them. I'll be getting pictures taken on Tuesday night, so I'll be sure to post!

I have to get pictures on here so I can introduce Brutus to Maximus. I think they would make a fine pair:-) Brutus turned 10 in October and is a 12 pound miniature. He is my baby boy and I call him my 4 legged child and my DD my 2 legged child.
Brutus sleeps under my covers at night.
He whines. A LOT.
He loves to burrow in my clothes. If I don't put them away right away, whether they are just on the chair in my room or in hte clothes basket, he is in there making a nest.
He has accidents. Outside? Um, if he feels like it. Which is most of the time. But with no warning..........
He can go from silent to a 90 decible bark on a dime.
He can tear through a rawhide treat.
He thinks he is a hugacious dog and his "girlfriend" is a 95 pound golden retriever.
I am his hero and he follows me wherever I go:-)
You have to love them!!!!!

Does anyone have suggestions as to how to find a female to mate my male dachshund to? He'll be two in May and I feel like he's a little more aggressive due to not being neutered. However, he's such a pretty chocolate color, I can't bear the thought of not breeding him at least once with a female that has chocolate coloring in her.
*sigh* Why aren't there little doggie bars or something for them to meet? :p

Ambula- Where did you get your dachshund? I noticed that you live in KY and I was wondering if you went to Shadow Ridge Farms...They have the cutest puppies! I must say, I think Cooper is adorable! I may be biased since I have a chocolate dachshund myself. Did he have any siblings? I would really love to have a second one...

Oakley- Thank you!!
Taylandra-I got my pup at Ginns Mini Dachshunds in Wingo, KY. I have heard of Shadow Ridge though and they do have cute babies! The Ginn's DO have a chocolate male left, he was absolutely adorable! You should check it out! Scott and his wife were so good to us, they are actually delivering the dog to us because they will be in my town! So nice!
Here is the website...check it out!

DH found that pic awhile ago on icanhascheezburger.com, printed it off and we have it hanging in the office LOL
What I wanna know is, where do people keep getting pictures of my dog to put in advertisements!? :p There was a full-page ad with coupons that my mom sent that was for Pedigree or something and it had a pic of a dog that looked identical to Max, right down to the smirk lol
And that pic posted above looks like Max when he was a puppy... 'cept he wouldn't be sipping the drink, he'd be eating the straw and cup LOL

That comic was too cute! I didn't find the majority of the ones on the website as cute, but there were a few good ones.
I really, really, really want a second dachshund. There have been a few adorable chocolate/cream or chocolate/tan female long hair pups that I have longed for...But then I think about the whole housetraining thing (now is good since the apartment carpet is already bad, but man, do I really want to train another dog right now?) and the fact that we could have a baby and two dogs next year. Yikes. I have myself settled on waiting, but Chloe (http://shadowridgefarms.com/puppies/olderpuppies.html) on this site keeps me second-guessing. I asked her sale price and that stopped me a bit...But I still want her!

We love him so much and he is an absolute doll! We are doing ok on potty training- the accidents he has are totally my fault! He is very laid back and sweet, not hyper at all (which was a concern of my husbands!) and we cant wait to watch him grow!

Amula- Sorry I didn't reply much earlier. I'm in Nashville, but I'd have to check and see how far Wingo is from here. Cooper is sooo cute! Sabin would just whine and act like we were punishing him if we put a costume on him. Hope he continues to do well with his housebreaking. I may contact that breeder b/c they have some cute pups on their site...Or maybe they would want to breed a female with Sabin...
;-)
Cooper is adorable! I just love dachshunds and can't wait to have one (or two) of my own some day. We've always been a family of dachshunds. Amy, Heidi, Gretchen, Rudy and Penny. I'd like to name my someday pup Tate.

Hey fellow dachshund moms!
I am getting ready to get Cooper some new dog food as he is approaching his first birthday and we are slowly running out of puppy food (I bought a HUGE bag!)
Now I am wanting to change his food...and wondering what you guys feed your pups. I am trying to decide between these brands, but am really overwhelmed and confused as to how to pick-
Nutro
Innova Small Bites
Canidae
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul
Anyone have any opinions on this? Cooper is about 10 lbs, very lean and has great skin and coat. He is currently eating Diamond puppy food (thats what his breeder had him on so I bought it) but Im ready for a change because Ive heard some negative things about Diamond brands.
I want these things:
Shiny coat
Normal, solid stools
Small kibble
Something he will like!
I dont want to do RAW, as I dont think I have enough time...so Im really looking for a kibble.
Thanks for your help!
