Valentines Day Weight Loss Challenge
Sunday, January 1st ~ Saturday, February 18th
7 Weeks

http://www.stainedglassoriginals.com/Happy%20valentines%20day.jpg

Who we are:

We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.

Your threadmistresses for this thread are ellidew, Mom2Cole, TX Sweetheart, Princesstommi and kithara!

Want to join the fun?!?

We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

Feel free to join at any time during the challenge.
It’s better to join NOW than to wait until we start a new challenge! ;)

You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page and post a reply with the following information. None of this info is a must but it helps to learn a little bit about each other.

A new challenge will be created at the end of the active challenge! A link to the new thread will be placed at the end of each challenge once it is completed.

PLEASE post all updates in RED and include the week you are checking in for so your updates are easier to see and to assure we don't miss any of them! Thanks!

Known issues: I will workout/count calories for a week then lose motivation. I am really hoping that being a member of a group will help keep me motivated. I'm not so much concerned with losing pounds, because I know muscle will add some weight, I just want to lose the belly I've gained since this time last year. I guess some of y'all might think 11 pounds is tiny, but it always takes me a long long time to lose any pounds.

Can I just say how excited I am about this? I've got to do a pantry and fridge makeover this weekend (possibly tonight) and all leftover junk food is going in the trash first thing on Sunday morning! I've got to start bringing my lunch to work again everyday too. I've made a five-month plan for myself so that I can lose about 30 lbs by my birthday and reach my final goal in time for our 2nd wedding anniversary at the end of July:

FOOD
Eat 1200 to 1300 calories per day.
Drink at least 64 oz water per day.
Take a kelp supplement daily (which is supposed to improve thyroid health).
Drink green tea each morning.

EXERCISE
Treadmill for 30 min (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday)
Arm workout (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday)
200 crunches w/ exercise ball (Wednesday, Saturday)

WEIGHT GOALS
Jan 1 to Feb 14 - lose 15 lbs
Feb 15 to Apr 16 - lose 10 lbs (total of 25)
Apr 17 to May 22 (my birthday) - lose 5 lbs (total of 30)
May 23 to July 24 (anniversary) - lose 5 lbs (total of 35)

So, weight loss challenge mods, could you please change the following info for me:
I'm calorie counting instead of Weight Watchers.
My final goal is to lose 35 lbs.
My final goal date is July 24.

Hi there.. I'm brand new to this, so here goes

Me: name/age Amy/23
DH: name/age Michael/22
Married since: July '05
Dieting since: um, I haven't since college (2 yrs ago)
Dieting Program: limit calories/attempt to workout
Total weight loss goal/Final Weight: -11/139
Final Weight Date Challenge: hmm?
Challenge Weight Loss Goal: -11
Weight Loss Challenge Member Since: (Challenge #) this one!

I have 4 sessions of Dibetic nutrition classes starting Tuesday. Hopefully the nutritionist can help me lay out a meal plan where if I have one bad week I don't gain 5 pounds. Right now I veiw my body/weight as the enemy and that's not a very healthy relationship to have with yourself. I can be militant on my diet and lose 5 pounds in a week. But if I eat pizza, go out to eat, and basically not eat the exact same thing everyday (which I know is how I loose my 1lb a week) I can gain anywhere from 3-5 pounds in one week.

I'm really getting tired of 'dieting' so I'm trying SBD and I'm hoping to combine that lifestyle with the tools I already have b/c I've basically been stuck at my current wait for about 3 months where I've been gaining and loosing the same ten pounds and I'm ready to blimp back up to meet the 100 pounds or more criteria for a gastric bypass so that I can take the cop-out and yes I do see it as the easy way out b/c I didn't get this way over night but this is really dogging me right now.

WHOOOO I feel better

Happy New Year Everyone!!

I'm in for this one.
My starting weight: 134
Goal for this challenge: -3 lbs....131 lbs

One of my weakness have been alcohol. I'm a social drinker and I tend to much a bit while drinking. But I have given it up for my New Years Resolution...so I'm hoping that help drop off a few pounds there :)

Part of me is so relieved that this challenge is starting NOW. The other part of me is overwhelmed at all the changes that have to be made. But, I am definitely ready. I want to feel healthy and beautiful again!

Starting Weight: 156

Good luck to all challengers! Sundays are actually a rest day with my workout program, so today, I'm just going to work on getting back into the swing of things food-wise. Tomorrow, however, is treadmill-and-arm workout day!

Total weight loss goal/Final Weight: 25/140
Final Weight Date Challenge: May 20
Challenge Weight Loss Goal: 7 pounds
Weight Loss Challenge Member Since: This is my first.
Known issues: Previously lost 100+ lbs; my body fights for every calorie.
Current Weight: 166

I've had a couple of different 'goal weights' over the last few years, and I am trying to figure out which one is right. Back when I was morbidly obese, I thought my goal was 125. I weighed 125 in Jr. High and haven't grown much since then (I am 5'1"), so I thought that's what I should be.

At 130 lbs. pre-surgery (which is what I was in the Montana picture in the Before & After Pics (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=12162) thread), I was too skinny. My face looks great, but my chest looked like it was out of National Geographic and it hurt to sit on a hard bench. I decided 135-140 should be my goal, and then I had surgery to remove excess skin from my stomach & thighs, and they removed 6 pounds from me. I'm pretty sure though that my goal is somewhere around 135-140, and I will feel like I've reached my goal when I've hit 140. If I decide to push for the extra 5 pounds at that point, I will.

Mostly, though, I want to lose this 25 pounds so that when I get pregnant, it's this 25 pounds I will gain back instead of an additional 25 pounds from where I am now. I have the motivation, and that's what it took last time, so I'm fairly certain I'll be able to reach my goal.

Off to a slow start here :o. I finally made it to the grocery store around 2 to pick up all my SBD approved foods, so breakfast and lunch didn't quite fit with the program. Dinner was the first plan meal and it was quite good (Marinated Steak, green beans and a small salad). I also tried the Ricotta Cream - the Pumpkin Spice version from allrecipes.com. Actually hit my sweet tooth just right, but 1/2 a cup was too much for me. It's pretty rich. Next time I make it, I'll halve the recipe and just use a 1/4 cup of the ricotta.

No exercise today, other than a mad dash around the grocery store :). My baby boot camp classes start again on Wednesday, so I'm sure that will really be the start of the exercising for me.

I got off to a slow start. Last night we had a good dinner of steak, noodles and corn. Then it kind of went down when our neighbors invited us over. I was good and didn't snack, but they had mulled cider, and it was just so good and warm, perfect for this weather!

Tomorrow I start work, so it will also be the start of gym time! I got an ipod and loaded it up today so hopefully that will keep me motivated for longer in the gym.

I really haven't started yet, but tomorrow my vacation is over and I am going to create a new routine. We did throw out all of the leftover Christmas candy today. I guess that is a start. A few changes I am making tomorrow:

1. I am going to eat breakfast. Cereal with 2% milk tomorrow.
2. I am going to start counting points.
3. Pilates dvds with FH when I get home from work.
4. Fh is going to the grocery store tomorrow. I am going to cut up fresh veggies and put them into baggies so that when we make dinner all we need to do is put the veggies into the steamer...cuts down on prep time and keeps me from wanting to just order in.
5. Buying a new and working scale so I can actually keep track of my progress.

I'll check in tomorrow and give an update on how things went.

Current weight 210:eek:

Now that I got that out of the way. I start weight watchers tomorrow and I'm going to try to fit exercise in some how. I will try to walk much more at work.

On a better note to celebrate my new year new me theme I got my hair cut and collored over the weekend and I bought a few outfits Hopefully the last I will every buy in that size.

Can anyone recomeemd a great thread for healthy quickl meals?

When I was on weight watchers before I spent so much time cooking but now with my son wanting to eat as soon as we walk in the door that's not really an option because I must sit and eat with him.

Thanks

Yay, updates are complete! Phew! :D

Now, where to start, where to start!

Kingdono- I feel the same way. As a matter of fact, i don't have any problem telling people my weight anymore. I started out at 221 so you have a shorter distance to go than i did! It'll totally be worth it! Good luck on your weight loss.

nolagirl- Good luck! Stay away from the center of the store!

kithara- Great plan! Especially the working scale. lol. we need one of those too. It's a good thing i weigh in at lawl 3 times a week! Actually, cutting up the veggies ahead of time is a great idea. I do the same thing. I also clean lettuce once a week and keep it cleaned, cut and ready to eat in my salad spinner in the fridge. It's nice that you have dh to work out with you. My dh can eat anything and not gain an ounce, it makes it hard to watch. I don't keep ANY junk food in the house... i send everything to work with dh :)

LynzeyAHL- Yup! :p I have a small enough bladder as it is. Add that to AT LEAST 64 oz (usually more like 80-96) and i mine as well just have a toilet as a desk chair! Not to mention our receptionist always laughs when you walk in the door, i don't know why, she just does. So everytime i leave and come back she laughs. i don't get it either. You sound very frustrated!

numberlady- I do better at work too. Since i am forced :p to work and there aren't any cabinets filled or a refrigerator filled with food i don't think about it as much. Good luck to ya, you are off to a good start!

pride&prejudice- Good luck to you! A slip every now and again isn't bad so don't be down on yourself. Maybe find something to keep you motivated... i have a picture of me at my peak weight the weekend before i started my "diet" on my tack board next to my desk in my office and everytime i see it i remember exactly WHY i am dieting. In a few months when i get to my goal i'll show everyone a before and after... almost 30 lbs later makes a big difference so i can only imagine what 70 lbs will look like! Of course if you go to my blog you can see some pictures... i yelled at all my friends for not telling me i was so FAT! lol. We all had a good chuckle about it over the weekend! They are really embarassing pictures but they aren't me anymore so i don't care! Plus, it feels good to get validation every now and then. My dh has been amazing through all of this.

Mrs. Alting- Congrats on your new job! I would imagine it is easier to plan and stay on track when you are working a set schedule. Don't worry about week 5 of the new years challenge. Almost everyone that saw it through only gained a few, maintained, or lost and that's amazing for the time between Thanksgiving and New Years. Remember, the average weight gain between T-Day and New Years is 7 lbs! I only lost a little over 3 and feel like i still came out ahead of the game! Stay focused and you'll do great on this challenge... personally, i'm going for the biggest loser title, wanna race? lol.

princesstommi- Glad to have you back! Sounds like you did have a stressful holiday! yikes! That much time with my il's would drive me bonkers! lol. Happy new year to you too!

AHammer- I am a snacker too. I seriously eat 5 times a day! I eat breakfast, then snack, then lunch, then snack, then dinner! It works out great. Be careful with the craisins... i love them too and they are great on salads but they are loaded with sugar! That kinda takes the healthiness out of 'em. I am having a horrible time getting my fruit in during winter... grapes and strawberries just taste terrible! I have switched to 100% orange juice and juicy juice as my fruits and apples although every now and then i get one of those that tastes terrible. Apple slices with PB are my downfall!

boilermaker- Can you do food prep on Sunday or a weeknight for most of the week and then just have to cook it when you come home? What if you steam all your veggies at the beginning of the week? and prepare and/or cook your food all at the same time. I hate coming home and cooking too and that's usually when i snack on whatever i can find because i am hungry and feeling lazy! I do a lot of veggie prep all at the same time so i don't have to think about it again. I've thought about cooking on Sunday nights and then not cooking the rest of the week... just reheating! I haven't done it yet but i know a lot of people that do. Dh's cousin has someone that comes in and cooks all their food for a month and all they have to do it bake/microwave it when they want to eat it. They love it! Personally, i can't afford that kind of service!

Oakley- Good luck! It’s nice that you have your dh to support you!

filmgirl7- Great attitude! I don’t think the last challenge went the way MOST people hoped! Lol. You’ll break the 130 mark in no time! All of you talking about going to the gym and working out make me feel guilty since I haven’t worked out but a hand full of times since I started dieting in September! It sucks that the computer had to be moved out of the elliptical room. We wont have the basement finished for several months so maybe I’ll have to conceded to using it for 15 minutes a day rather than 1 hour every couple of days. I’ll get bored with nothing to watch or listen to!
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEDDING!

DIEDRA1027- Good luck at baby boot camp! Don’t discount your mad dash around the grocery store either! Every little bit of movement counts especially if it is above and beyond what you typically do on a normal basis. Parking farther away from the door is a good way to get in exercise!

Chris~n~Jen- Everytime I see your username I think of me and my dh. We are Chris and Jen(nifer) too! It totally throws me off! Lol. Good luck!

scrappy- Take your day with a grain of salt. Back to work today!

TX Sweetheart- Your changes were made! Hey, your final weight date challenge is on my birthday! My weight loss goal right now is 150. When I get there I am going to evaluate where I want to be and what I want to look like again. 135 was the weight I was last really happy at but I don’t know if my body will still want to look like that (high school graduation weight!) My final weight date is currently the beginning of May so hopefully we are both 135 by my birthday! We’ve been holding the same pattern for quite some time now. I am starting off at 192.2 so we are neck and neck as usual :D I totally gauge myself by you so you better stick with it! Lol.

WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW MEMBERS! I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW EVERYONE! GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY LOSING!

As for me... i jumped back on the wagon yesterday although i did cheat a little when dh popped open a tub of popcorn. (which is why i don't keep that kind of stuff in the house! I fully admit to not having willpower!) I am doing "Fast Forward" which means i am drinking this juice supplement drink, all my water, eating 6 oz of protein and 2 vegetables each day for 2 days. Then i can go back to eating on schedule. Being hungry sucks a little though. I down my juice or water everytime i get a hunger pain. Oh, i get 2 protein bars each day too. It's not terrible. It's not great either though.

Today i have vowed not to cheat. I had a protein bar for breakfast and i am drinking my juice and water as we speak. Luckily the updates this morning kept me busy enough that i didn't think about eating! Thanks guys! ha ha. My cruise is the week before this challenge ends so i only have about 5 weeks and i want to get down another 10 lbs to fit into the clothes i pulled out of "i'm to fat to wear" storage. Most things are only a few lbs shy of fitting! That was such an exciting day! Not to mention i want to get pregnant damn it. How's that for blunt? Dh and i are officially taking ttc seriously... except i keep forgetting to temp in the morning. I've done it twice now and i am on cd 11 (i think). oops. I am taking my prenatal and no caffeine and dh cut down from 6 cups of coffee and 2 mt dews to 3 cups of coffee and maybe a soda. I about fell over when he told me how much caffeine he was drinking! So we are both making lifestyle changes since all of 2005 didn't produce a baby. 2006 is going to be our year!

Just want to wish everyone luck on losing! It's hard but we can all do it! Anyone want to race for the biggest loser challenge? ha ha!

Only 6.7 lbs before i am half way to my goal!

ellidew ~ I seem to run across a lot of Chris & Jen's. I guess since they are both super popular names it's only makes sense that so many of us hook up! :p

lynzeyAHL~ How did your vegitable to go cups turn out? I'm not sure that I made them right. There was a ton of spinach and not that much egg at all. Also I didn't have foil baking cups so I used paper ones. I also choose to just use the paper because I knew that I would be freezing them and wanted to be able to re-heat in the microwave. Well they weren't bad, just kinda odd. I think next time I will cut the spinach down a bit and maybe add just a touch more egg substitute. That would be ok don't you think?

First actual diet day for me. So far not to bad.

Breakfast ~ 6 oz vegitable juice
2 vegtable quich cup thingies

Snack ~ 1 celery stick w/ 1 wedge laughing cow cheese (yum!)

Lunch ~ Tossed salad w/ baslamic vinagerette dressing
Topped w/ grilled chicken breast strips
sugar free jello cup

I also have a 52 oz "Bubba Keg" at my desk full of water. My goal is to finish it before the end of today. With dinner I can probably gulp down another 2 glasses to complete my water intake for the day.

DH and I will be swimming laps tonight for our excersise. I have to say that getting him to eat this much has been difficult. I called around 9 to see if he had ate his veggie cups (nope), although he did drink the juice. At my snack time I called and made him eat a cheese stick. Now I just called and reminded him to have the yummy salad I prepared for him last night. See the problem with Chris is that he really doesn't eat very much, but he does love his nightly beer or two. So he's mostly beer belly! The hardest part for him during phase 1 is going to be the no alcohol and constant snacking. Both of those come really easy to me! :p I just need to make myself stop eating.

Sitting here eating my oatmeal with dried cranberries... It was SOOOOO hard to ignore the cafeteria's strawberry french toast/turkey sausage special though!!! ;) :p So i acknowledged my strawberry craving and got nonfat strawberry yogurt instead. Not quite the same, but close right? :D

I'm ready to get back on the bandwagon. DH & I bought a treadmill with our Christmas money. I have made a resolution to get on it at least for a few minutes every day. So far, I did 50 min. (one 30 min. session and another 20 min. session) on Jan 1 and 30 min. on Jan 2. I love having being able to exercise at home. I'm hoping this is my ticket to skinny!

Last night I went through the pantry/refrig/freezer and threw out all the old junk food we have. I kept a little, cause on good days I'll have some calorie wiggle room :)

Speaking of good days, I'm off to a good start. Like I said earlier (or did i? dont remember) today's my first day back at work since before Christmas, so it's much harder for me to constantly snack while i'm teaching!! This morning I had a banana and tea for breakfast, then lunch was a PB sandwich, banana, 1/3 cup craisins, and diet dr. pepper. Dinner tonight will be grilled chicken over pasta with garlic tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. yum!

Overall, that is 967 calories and 20 grams of fat for the day.

Weight this morning was 148.5, I fluctuate a lot through the day. I think i need to be consistent about when I weigh myself, so I'll do it in the mornings when I wake up.

ellidew or anyone else -- I usually get the craisins from the bulk section at our local health food store. do you know if those have the same amt of sugar in them as the craisins sold in regular grocery stores (the ones by the packaged raisins). I should try to look that up somewhere. For some reason I've been secretly hoping they dont have the same amt of sugar :)

AHammer- My guess is that they more than likely have sugar in them but i could be wrong. Unless they exclusively say something like: All Natural, Sweetened with natural juices, or the equivalent. Honestly, if you've been eating them and seeing results then i wouldn't even worry about it. Especially if you are measuring a serving out and counting like you are.

Ironically, on my diet i am allowed to have "3 sugar free candies" per day. So i hit up the Russell Stovers and Hersheys sugar free candies and had 3 per day like i was allowed (they were wonderful by the way). I had chocolate with almonds, turtles, peanut butter cups, etc... When i gained weight that week they looked at my diary and asked what kind of candy it was. Well, apprently when the book said "3 sugar free candies" per day it meant life saver type candies. I told the woman they need to be more clear in the book and actually say that because it's misleading!

You are off to a great start. Way to go!

Well, my husband and I both had off last week and we decided to start running together. Needless to say, my running turned into walking and then my husband suggested fart legging, which means running for a block, then walking, then running for a block, and so forth. We did that and OH MY GOSH was I tired. I felt like someone was sitting on my chest at one point, so I slowed down to a walk and put my hands over my head to open up my chest. We went 1.25 miles, which I thought was good for my first trip. We did that every day Monday-Friday, which made me super happy. He will be fart legging with me tonight too.

I also got Billy Blanks bootcamp and let me tell ya, it is HARD. I got through 10 minutes of it, which was the warm-up and I was SHOT. Ugggghhhh!!

We also have an eliptical trainer, but there is no TV in the room. We are looking into getting one because I LOVE my shows and I would like to use it during the winter. We talked about moving it downstairs, but it is SUPER heavy and we don't think it will go.

For today, this is my food intake so far:

Breakfast--
3/4 cup of egg white with one whole egg scrambled with 1 tbsp of skim milk
2 slices of white toast
2 sprays of I can't believe its not butter spray
1 glass of grape juice

Lunch--
7oz of water packed tuna
2 tbsp of lofat mayo
2 cups of lettuce

Dinner--
6oz of some type of salmon
1 cup of veggies
1/2 cup of mashed potates using skim milk

Snack--
2 cups of frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of organic lofat yogurt
water
(blended all together and made a smoothie)

For workout, I did eliptical for 15 minutes and I was BEAT!

Mom2Cole- Where the heck have you been? I've missed you! Love your new avatar. Cole is adorable! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the holidays. I didn't come anywhere near my goal but i still managed to lose over the course of the challenge so that made me feel good :D I enjoyed the food i ate too... wish i could've done it as guilt free as you did. Go you!

bethnjim- You are off to an awesome start. I'm impressed at your running last week. I can't believe you did it on Monday-Friday! That's so wonderful. It's nice to have you dh to encourage you. Keep it up! Your meal plan looks great! I have the same problem with the elliptical as you do. We had our computer in there so i would put a dvd on. When the computer crashed and we moved it out of the room to a more secure outlet it left the elliptical alone and unused in the room by itself. I hope to just hop on for 10-15 mins per day. When we finish our basement we are moving it down there and it will be easier to use! Good luck to ya.

ok, so first few days of dieting didn't go so well. Dh's Grandma died, so we were in AL at the ILs this week. ILs = the best southern food ever of the face of this earth. It wasn't so bad, except that I've developed a love for potato salad in the past 2 years DH and I have been married, and that's the only place I get it.:o So officially my starting weight loss is 200 My main goal for this is portion control and no emotional eating! We just got a dog, so that means more on my feet & off my butt time since she likes to go out alot.

Hello to all!

I did pretty good today. We had grilled salmon with steamed asparagus and tossed salad for dinner. Yummy! I've never made salmon before but it turned out great on my george forman grill. Just brushed it with extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, fresh rosemary, salt & pepper. I'm pretty proud of myself.

Cr8nme -- if you're not hungry on that menu, then great! If you are, I'd try adding a little protein to your breakfast or lunch. Toss some nuts onto your cereal, or add some chicken to your salad. You're really only getting protein at dinner.

Tonysweetie, grats on the 6 pounds! That's great!!

I set up BalanceLog (http://www.healthetech.com/balancelog/) last night, and told the program that I wanted to lose 1.3 pounds/week between now and May 20. It gave me a net calorie goal of (*sigh*) 1130 calories/day. Being short sucks.

I didn't do a very good job yesterday... mostly because we went to Pallino Pastaria for pizza... and that one stupid meal was 1500 calories... greater than my entire budget for the day. Pizza also sucks. Well, lots of really good neopolitan pizza sucks for someone who is doing the CC Weightloss Challenge. Otherwise, pizza is great!

With 535 calories worth of jog/walking for the couch-to-5k yesterday, and 510 calories worth of Step Aerobics today, however, I'm now 134 calories under budget for the week. Hooray for me! My Polar Heart Rate Monitor, by the way, does not suck. In fact it sorta rules. :) I'm really glad I have it... it's so encouraging to know that I've already burned 1145 calories this week.

Pizza addiction here. if you make it at home using a whole wheat pita rubbed with a little olive oil and herbs then baked til its a little crisp and bubbly then put a layer of thinly sliced tomatoes, use the lowfat pre sliced moz. and then top off with veggies and and a sprinkle of Parmesan and lowfat shredded moz. ITS SO GOOD and only a few hundred calories for the whole thing! I can't wait for phase 2. Only 11 more days!

LynzeyAHL, that sounds awesome!! I'm going to have to try that. :D

In my quest for Low-Cal pizzas, I have come up with a few options ...

- Trader Joe's has quite a few low-calorie pizzas. You have to look at the Nutritional Info to make sure... but there are quite a few that aren't diet-killing. I bring them home, top them with Oberto's Turkey Pepperoni, mushrooms, broccoli, onions, whatever... and man-oh-man are they good.

- A.C. LaRocco (http://www.aclarocco.com/) makes awesome wheat-crust pizzas. They are not as low-cal as TJ's, but they are very good and healthy. Again, I put Turkey Pep & extra veggies on them. It used to be that if you emailed them to find out where their pizzas were sold in your area, they would mail you $1 off coupons. Don't know if that still works, but interested parties could try it!

Unfortunately... we were out-and-about around Lunchtime on Monday... and yum yum, there was Pallino's!

Oakley

The whole wheat crust idea is a good one! They say if you double the sauce, 1/2 the cheese and add a TON of veggies- pizza can be good for you! I swear it's the only way I get my husband to eat veggies. I also dab off the pizza with a paper towel if it's greasy. It looks gross, but it can save 100-200 calories!!

So far so good for me. I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes on Monday and yesterday. I'm still working on finding my 3-lb weights for my arm workout, but I think I'm just going to end up buying a new set this weekend. I've done pretty well with the eating, but it has been trying at times. And I need to drink way more water. But since there is a definite change between what I WAS eating and what I'm eating now, I know I'm sure to see some results on Friday when I weigh in (I chose Fridays as my weigh-in days). I'm crossing my fingers for 2 or 3 lbs!

Today is my shopping spree day! DH gave me a bunch of giftcards and got the day off with my boss for me to go on a shopping spree with my best friend. That was my big Christmas gift this year. And we're going to my favorite mall, the Florida Mall, which is HUGE! So I just know I'll be walking miles today. Yay for getting in exercise while shopping! That truly is the best exercise of all.

I have a question~~I am 5'8"-5'9" tall...right in between there. According to my height and weight (250) I am supposed to eat 3500 calories a day to maintain my weight. Yesterday, I ate a total of 1200 calories...actually, a little less, but I rounded up to 1200. I worked out for 15 minutes on my eliptical trainer. Do you think 1200 calories is realistic? I don't feel hungry and have been incorporating more fruits and veggies, which are OF COURSE, lower in calories.

Oh and something that I find to be SUPER yummy:

2 cups of Trader Joe frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of Trader Joe's organic lofat yogurt
2 packets of Splenda
2 cups of cold water

I blend that all together and drink away. It is SO GOOD and it gets in my fruit and total calories is 105. I thought that was pretty good. It makes about 12-16oz of liquid.

Is anyone measuring and tracking weight? I started a spiral notebook and have been writing down food each day. I wrote on page one my starting weight and then the measurements of bust, waist, hips, each thigh and each arm. I figured if I am working out that I might see a difference in inches more quickly than weight.:o

Wednesday's menu:

Breakfast--
3/4 cup of egg white with one whole egg scrambled with 1 tbsp of skim milk

Bethnjim, I'm writing down everything I eat and counting calories. I also write down the specifics of what I do on the treadmill when I exercise, such as the distance, time, incline, mph, and calories burned.

I had my metabolism tested a few months ago and it gave me the exact numbers of what I need to eat to maintain and to lose. It's great to know numbers for my body instead of what a generalized chart will tell you.

I've been on my treadmill every day since we bought it! We got it Sunday, but still...I am proud of myself and feel better about things already. :D

bethnjim, to be honest, 1200 calories for your size seems very low to me. To the point of forcing your body into starvation mode. It seems crazy, but eating too little can certainly halt the weight loss as your body starts storing everything. That being said, 3500 is an awfully lot of calories!!

I have also kept food diaries...I kept one in my journal here for awhile. I do much better when I do that. It's like it makes you more accountable for what you eat. So, if you want to post in here daily, we'll let you :D And that smoothie sounds yummy.

I had a bad night last night. Worked way to late to get my exercise in, then went home and ate processed food. It is definitely mush easier to eat and live healthy when you don't have a job interfering with the process!!!!

bethnjim- 1200 calories is what i've always heard is the calorie intake to lose weight at a healthy pace. I think it has a lot to do with WHAT your calories are coming from too though. Your meal plan looks great and if you aren't hungry then even better. I am not usually hungry on my diet but i do occasionally get a hunger pain. If that happens try to grab a fruit or veggie or even drink a big glass of water. Personally, I had to initially overcome the convenience of grabbing whatever i could find.
I write everything down too. I am not keeping track of calories though. Each day i get 2 proteins, 4 vegetables, 3 fruits, 2 starches, 1 dairy, 1 fat and 2 protein bars. My meal plan for today is...

Breakfast:
1/4 cup Oatmeal (1/2 a starch)
1 yogurt cup (dairy)
1 T. honey (i "fry" my oatmeal in honey and PAM then put it on top of my yogurt... mmmm.)
8 oz oj (2 fruits)

Snack:
Protein Bar

Lunch:
1 Vegetarian Chicken Patty (Protein)
1 cup no salt added canned green beans (2 vegetables)
1 100% fruit leather (fruit)

Snack:
Protein Bar

Dinner:
1 Vegetarian Chicken Patty (Protein)
1/2 baked potato (starch)
1 T. sour cream
small amount of milk (dairy) (i only ate 90% of my yogurt so i could add a little milk to the potato and beat them with sour cream for mashed potatoes!)
1 cup no salt added canned green beans (2 vegetables)
1/4 cup nonfat yogurt (starch)

I've always been amazed at the shear amount of food i can eat and lose weight! Almost 30 lbs and counting so i guess i'm doing something right! :D

I did pretty darn good yesterday and today i am back on track with no dinner plans or out of town company in sight! Phew! Those out of town guests were killin' me! I need to get my average weight loss back up into the 2 lbs a week range. I averaged 2.6 before Thanksgiving and now i am down to around 1.6. With the cruise fast approaching i have a lot of work to do!

ruledbymercury- I received 3 and 5 lbs weights for christmas. I used them for a little bit last night. I tried on my juicy couture terry cloth strapless dress and didn't like the little pudge at the corner of my chest where it meets the arms. I'm going to start doing 10 minutes of weights each night until the cruise! Under 40 days! AHH! Have fun on your shopping spree! What an awesome present from your husband!

Coccinelle- Good to see you too! Good luck! :D

Oakley- I dab too! Actually i didn't use to but on LAWL diet you can eat 2 slices of pizza (once a week) but it specifically says to dab the oil off!

wsusquirrel- That sucks that you were hungry. I hope you found a healthy snack to eat. If you don't mind me asking... what did you eat the rest of the day? What you ate throughout the day could've contributed to your hunger. For instance, too many starches trick your body into thinking it's full and then an hour later you feel hungry again. They are tricky little buggers! Did you get in enough fruits and vegetables? Eat too many processed foods? All those crazy ;) people that talk about eating a balanced diet and not feeling hungry are actually right. If you did eat balanced and were still hungry... did you eat most of your food in the AM? What if you shift your main meal to lunch? Or have a small breakfast, midsized lunch, and larger dinner? That way you get your hunger out of the way in the morning. I find i am not as hungry if i get up in the morning and drink my juice then take my breakfast to work with me and eat it an hour later. Then 2 hours later snack, 2 hours later lunch, 3 hours later snack, 3 hours later dinner. It works for me but unfortunately you'll have to figure out what works for you. Good luck!

then went home and ate processed food.
Bad, boilermaker! lol. It happens to all of us... are you back on track today?

ellidew - good morning! yeah, i know what i ate yesterday was not the best but it was all i was hungry for. :( i get really weird when i try and change my habits and only eat certain foods. i know...strange!!! i need to take some time and really plan some better meals.

elliedew~~What do you mean by "frying" your oatmeal in honey?? I don't really care for oatmeal, but I heard it is a great way to fill the stomach. Do you put honey in a pan and heat it and then add oatmeal?? Is the oatmeal already cooked??

I feel like I am in panic mode with trying to lose because we are going on a cruise in March...March 4th to be exact and then one of my friends is getting married this year and I wanted to lose weight before her shower and her wedding.

Is it okay to post my daily menus and workouts here? Also, can we post recipes that are low fat or low calorie?? I think it would be a SUPER resource for everyone!!

Oh and I was reading the People magazine and they had one of the Biggest Losers menus. It was basically:
B-1cup of egg whites with 1 slice of wheat toast, L-2cups of greens, 6oz tuna and 2tbsp of lo fat dressing, D-4oz of grilled chicken and 2cups of grilled veggies. She eats three snacks a day, which is one apple, a cup of yogurt and one fudgescile.

I tried it and got a HUGE headache. I felt weak and lightheaded all day long, which was a horrible feeling. I do know quite a few people who LOVE it, but it really didn't work for me!

Re: Metabolism... Calorie limits are different for everyone. There are places on the internet where you can put in your height, weight, frame, and activity level and it will spit out what it thinks yours should be. The only way to know for sure, however (or at least have something a little more based on science), is to get your metabolism tested and base your meal plan off of that. You can put your zipcode in this form (http://www.healthetech.com/locator/) and find places to do it for you if you were interested. Taterbaby, where did you get yours tested?

Bethnjim, When you think about your 1200 calories (or whatever you decide it is for you), the math should go like this: Food - Exercise = 1,200 Calories. If you do "Food = 1200 - Exercise," your leg-farting is going to cause your body to object to what you're doing. Adding an apple & a banana or something into your diet should do the trick!

What do you mean by "frying" your oatmeal in honey??

I use uncooked quaker quick oats. Put them in a pan on low to medium heat, drizzle honey on top and spray with non stick cooking spray (or spray butter but i had left my spray butter at work so i used cooking spray this morning). I mix everything together and it all clumps together. I do this until they are browned. It turns out like (but not quite as crispy) as the oat clusters in cereal. It's yummy!

Definitely post your daily menus and recipes! It's easier to see why or how you aren't losing or aren't feeling full when there is a record of what you've eaten.

wsusquirrel- I plan breakfast, lunch and dinner a week ahead of time and do all my grocery shopping off of a list. This way i can put a few things on my meal plan to look forward to as well as get to the store get what i need and get out without looking at the fresh baked donuts, the cookies aisle, etc... It's worked miracles. When dh and i used to just go to the store and buy whatever we ended up with so much crap we didn't need and wasn't good for us. Plus, it takes the guess work out of "whats for dinner tonight" which i get asked at least once a day :) I hated having to come home from work and plan dinner right then! It really was hard to form this habit since i had never done it this way before... neither did my mom and dad. I had to figure it out on my own. I have figured out that it takes 1 day to adjust back to my regular diet if i go off of it too. Dinner out, party, etc... the next day i am sort of out of it but by the 2nd day i am back on track. You'll figure out what works for you... it took me 2 years of trying to diet before i found something that worked. Before this (almost) 30 lb loss the most i had lost was 6 lbs. I want it so bad this time i can taste it!

This unexpected growth has however nearly exceeded our space limit on the first page. So you may notice a few changes when looking for current members or checking the current weight loss total. We'll make sure that everyone that wants to join fits even if it means taking down some information until Challenge #6. We will allow for additional growth space in Challenge 6 when it rolls around.

In addition to modifying the front page we are also going to request that everyone weigh in for week 1 (and week 2 by then for some people!) by Friday January 13th. At that point we are going to delete inactive profiles (unless noted) to make the front page easier to navigate. If you aren't going to be able to participate the first few weeks of this challenge or expect to be away for any period of time please let us know and we will make a note on your profile.

Today I started keeping my FitDay journal again. I've decided just to spend time and enter in the custom foods I eat daily. It will probably save me some time later. One thing I noticed is that my sodium intake is extremely high! I figured I would be in the 3000mg range - turns out it was more like 6000mg! Yikes! Then I did some reading and found out that it could be tough to lose weigh with the sodium being so high because it has the ability to hold in water. So instead, you have water gain!

I also found these interesting Health Calculators (http://www.healthcalculators.org/calc_index.htm) from the Univ. of Maryland. I personally made use of the fiber & protein calculators. But there are others that you may benefit from.

Ok, I know it it best to eat breakfast, but I am having such a hard time. I have all my goodies packet and in the fridge at work, but I'm just not hungry.

I am trying to eat breakfast around 8:30, snack 10:00, lunch 12:00, snack 3:00, dinner 5:30, final snack before 8:00. No food after 8pm.

But I am really forcing myself to eat in the mornings. I used to not eat anything until lunch time and then nothing again until dinner. This morning I forced myself to eat some protein for breakfast and then before I knew it was already 11am and I was not at all hungry.

The weird thing is that yesterday (forcing myself to eat at all the appropriate times) I was starving by 4pm and still hungry after dinner and all night. Can it be because I am eating so much more????

Any tips or even just motivation that what I am doing is right! It just seems odd to force myself to eat, just to be even hungrier the rest of the day. Where as if I don't really eat much, I'm not as hungry. Hope that makes sense.

Fly by post... (i'm in the middle of quoting a homeowners insurance policy) but i wanted to say...

Kellijo14- My diet at LAWL has VERY VERY little sodium in it. I can only use no salt added products (found no salt added canned vegetables last night! whoo hoo! I hate frozen vegetables and fresh are so yuck in winter). The other thing i use... Morton Lite Salt. It's awesome!

http://images.netgrocer.com/jpegs/2460001041.jpg

I never even knew it existed until someone told me! I haven't used anything else since. I leave a baggy of it at my moms house and my mil's house and i have a whole container at home and another at work! I've been known to take it to a restaurant with me too :)

A little fact:

*Table salt contains 590 mg. of sodium per 1/4 teaspoon.

*Lite salt per my container at work containes 290 mg. of sodium per 1/4 teaspoon.

I don't know if you are getting your sodium in the way of salt or not but this would be a good way to cut some of it down.

chris~n~jen- I've lost (almost-damnit... i'm sick of saying almost! lol) 30 pounds over eating! When i posted my meal plan earlier i even posted that i am still amazed i can eat so much food and still lose weight. It's what you eat not how much. You are doing it right. We are convinced as children and teenagers that the only way to be skinny is to not eat! It's totally false! Keep up the good work!

I am happy to say at my Offcial WW weight in Today My weight was 206.4

I'd love to say I did it but I think It's the difference between the round dial scale and the very technical WW scale:p

I'm on my plan and drinking water.

Chrisnjen -
Maybe you should adjust your eating time and just eat more when you do eat to see how that goes. Personally I feel if you change to something you can't stick with you will revert back at some point. It is possible that your not eating enough at night right now because your body used to eating at night. Good luck

Thanks for adding me to the group - I think this is a great thread to have!

I'm doing WW core (not going to meetings, but I've been enough times to know it!) and with a friend in NYC who is also doing core and is my support group! I'm also getting back into working out because gawd knows I need it. Not only for the calorie burning but also for the stress relief - I'm an accountant so this is the busiest time of year for me (I don't do taxes but I'm as busy as a tax accountant!).

Although I'm doing Core and therefore not recording points (as I would if I were doing Flex), I'm keeping track of everything I eat and my weight (weighing weekly) and measurements. I think it's important to have more than one way of telling how you're progressing and we all know some days that damn scale just isn't going to show the truth!

Silly question - I know the challenge started on January 1st, but when's the first week of weigh-in? Is it starting this Sunday? I'm confused... accounting, I can do, but this has me all befuddled... :)

julesp313- You're welcome! Glad to have ya!

INFO REGARDING WEIGHING IN:

The challenge is set up so that those that are coming off the previous challenge continue to weigh in the next week without skipping a week.

However, since a lot of people just joined at the beginning of week 1 they may want to SKIP the first week of weigh in. This way you know your "current weight" was the weight you started with. You may choose to weigh in with 0. Or if you weighed in at the beginning of the week but would rather weigh in at the end of the week you can weigh in twice this week, your current weight and your week 1 weight. Am i confusing everyone?

Basically it boils down to: this is WEEK 1. If you don't want to weigh in or your current weight is from this week then you can post a message in RED requesting your week 1 weigh in as a SKIP and we'll update it. Everyone that plans to participate in the challenge please weigh in by the end of next week!

Thanks.:D

ellidew, yes, I am utterly confused!!! ;) My weight on Sunday was 150, and taht's waht I put for my "current weight" on my intro information. So, I'll let y'all decide where that weight goes, and I'll report again on Sunday. Is that right? Will that be week 2??

Yup, the week started on Sunday so if you weighed in on Sunday then that was week 1. So, when i go through and do updates i'll put you in as a SKIP and when you post again on Sunday it will be Week 2. Off to do updates now before i forget to put your SKIP in! lol. :D It gets less confusing i swear!

weightloss.challenge

UPDATED TO HERE! :D :D :D

Clarification:

If you weighed in for your current weight prior to Sunday Jan. 1, 2006 then you will weigh in this week as
Week 1.

If you weighed in after on or after Sunday Jan. 1, 2006 then please post Week 1: SKIP and your first weigh in will be next week (week 2).

Sorry for any confusion. If you have questions please feel free to pm weightloss.challenge or ellidew or Mom2Cole!

Um, OK, so... yeah, how is it that I can get a degree in accounting but can't figure this out?

I think I've got it... the weight I'm considering my "starting weight" was the weight I was on Jan 1st (because I didn't get to a scale til then!) but I will be weighing in on Saturdays - and that would be this Saturday, which would be this week, so I'll get a week 1 result. Right? Just six days of results instead of seven...

Wow, down 7lbs already! What type of excersise are you doing?? I'm so nervous that I won't be loosing that much. Or that I'm not doing something on the diet correctly.

Had the SBD chopped salad with Tuna. I wasn't to crazy about the dressing that went with it. The salad was ok, I guess. I dont' think I'd make it again though. I did have to leave out the avacado because DH is allergic.

AHammer, I'm not much help, but you can get through the craving!!!

Oh yes - low cal chocolate. Every dieter's dream! :D More ideas: Find a brand of Chocolate Shake you like (Slim fast, The Zone, whatever ... but preferably one that's made with ice/water rather than milk), and when you get that craving, make a chocolate shake. It's filling, low-cal, and nutritionally good for you. If it's a "candy bar" you crave... Luna Bars are yummy -- especially the Smores & Nutz Over Chocolate ones!

I can't help much on the water thing... except that what they told us in class was that you need water for your body's chemical reactions, and without enough water to make the reactions, your body won't burn as many calories.

"So I let meyself have one mini sized bar. And that does it. Maybe that will work for you?"

boilermaker -- that's a good idea, I could have a mini size bar once every two days. I am proud to say I made it through the craving and it's gone now!!

"Oh yes - low cal chocolate. Every dieter's dream!"

MrsHill -- lol, I was getting desperate there, huh?? :)

If there were any others out there wondering about the science behind drinking water, and why it helps to lose weight and fat, I found an article that explains it pretty clearly. Water Article (http://colonhealth.net/free_reports/h2oartcl.htm)

Wow, down 7lbs already! What type of excersise are you doing?? I'm so nervous that I won't be loosing that much. Or that I'm not doing something on the diet correctly.

I have to say that I looooovvvvveeee the celery stick stuffed with laughing cow cheese. Yummy!

64 ounces of water for me so far today!!!:) :D :)

ok no exercise til tonight - I did 100 crunches 30 push ups - some other upper body strength /toning stuff and then I .... ran. Well I jogged - around half my compound then I walked the back 1/4 (up hill and it was windy and raining in my face and I was having a hard time on the wet ashphault) so I sprinted the last 1/4 then came in and stretched. I am confident to say the sprint and walk = jogged so I just jogged about a city block. I'm proud I said I'd never run unless it was for my life.

Well I realized everyday I don't do something is a little piece of my life and I'm not ok with that so it is for my life.

wow that was all deep and stuff LOL

I <HEART> laughing cow!
and Ken's steakhouse LITE ceasar only has like 3 grams of carbs in it and I don't really care if that's good or bad its how I use 2 tablespoons of dressing to choke down a monster salad haha.

Also, I sorta quit following the book I was getting tired of it so tonight I made a bed of sauted mushrooms onions and green peppers then used 1 slice of low fat cheese and put half over the veggies then put down a sirloin patty with a slice of turkey bacon and another piece of cheese and I think I had a big O eating it! I needed a 'cheat' feeling meal. But everything was off the approved list. I also had a huge serving of steamed broccoli. I took a salad break.

and I drank 84 oz of water at work today and then nailed 3 glasses of crystal light and another glass of water at home... Why o why do I have a sneaking feeling someone is gonna be in and out of the can all night?!?

I'd love to be 225 (or less) for our Trip to the Dominican. only around 10 pounds away! :p

Gah! It figures that AF would visit right smack in the middle of my first week. I feel bloated and nasty! I weigh in on Friday, so hopefully some of the blahs AF brings will have faded by then. Tomorrow I am doubling up on the water.

On the bright side, I cleaned the whole apartment today and shopped for 3 hours at the mall! I'm considering that my exercise for today. When I got back from my shopping spree, my arms were SO sore from carrying heavy bags all around. But I had a blast doing it.

I seem to have lost all my extra holiday weight (around 6 pounds) already, so I feel like I'm on my way!

I sorta quit following the book I was getting tired of it Hee. I'm only 4 days into SBD and I'm already tired of the book meal plans/recipes too. There are a lot of tomato recipes and I don't like tomatos, so I feel like I'm even more limited in my options. I actually made my own salad dressing from approved ingredients today that tastes a billion times better than anything in the book (for Phase 1 anyway).

ETA...I have discovered the pure joy of the Sugar-Free LifeSavers. Taste just like the real thing! I highly recommend them for anyone else dealing with big sweets cravings. Now if I could just limit myself to the recommended 3 per day ...

Not that great of a day for me. :( With AF in town and being sick AGAIN - I am just looking for comfort. I didn't do too much bad stuff but I had a small piece of pizza and had some dressing on my salad (very little). Looking to start fresh again tomorrow.

Keep up the great work ladies!!!

Diedra~~Sugar Free Lifesavers that taste like the real thing?? Yum! How many calories are in each??

I did pretty good yesterday. I went jogging/running/walking for two miles and did leg exercises too.

Here is today's plan:
Thursday's menu:

Breakfast--
1/2 cup of egg white with one whole egg scrambled with 1 tbsp of skim milk
2 slices of white toast
2 sprays of I can't believe its not butter spray
1 glass of grape juice

Snack--
small granny smith apple

Lunch--
7oz of water packed tuna
2 tbsp of lofat mayo

Dinner--
some type of fish
1 cup of veggies
1/2 cup of mashed potates using skim milk

Snack--
2 cups of frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of organic lofat yogurt
water
(blended all together and made a smoothie)

For workout, I plan to jog/walk/run another 2 miles tonight. I actually really enjoy it and my hubbie is doing it with me so it gives us a chance to catch up...when I can properly breathe!

wsusquirrel - I'm with you. AF is here as of yesterday and I feel ick! I've been sticking with the plan, but hanging on by a thread (have been making low-calorie choices, but not necessarily the best ones...like eating a bit too much lowfat mint choc chip ice cream last night  ). Today I will be guzzling water to see if that helps.

This morning I have been getting these horrible pangs of nausea, and I thought it might be due to an empty stomach. So I grabbed the first palatable thing I found that I thought I could stomach to see if it would help ease the nausea. Unfortunately, that was 200 calories-worth of animal crackers... It does seem to have helped, but that was NOT what I wanted to write down in my food journal for breakfast. I'm going to try to make up for it with a 150-calorie garden salad for lunch. If they have some veggie soup, maybe some of that too.

I eat sugar free life savers too but i did get a little burned out on them. They also make sugar free twizzlers! I don't crave sweets very often. I'm a carb person :p

bethnjim- Your meal plan looks really good! :D

My meal plan for today is:

Breakfast:
1 apple
1.5 T peanut butter

Snack:
Protein Bar

Lunch:
1 veggie burger
1/2 baked potato
1 T sour cream
1 cup no salt added canned green beans
yogurt
1 caffeine free diet dr. pepper

Snack:
Protein Bar

Dinner:
1 manicotti shell
3 oz part skim ricotta cheese
1/2 pkg veggie meat crumbles
2 cups lettuce
1 cup no salt added canned green beans
8 oz juice

Snack:
Fruit leather

I didn't get to weigh in last night (my official weigh in is on Friday but i weigh in at the center on M-W-F) My sister is still in town from Casablaca, Morocco so she had my car for the day and we didn't leave my office in time to make my appointment. I have no idea what kind of progress i've made this week but i am quite anxious to get in there and see my weight loss! There HAS to be a weight loss! I've been sooooo good! No more parties or out of town guests that want to go out to dinner just life as usual. Only 32 days until my cruise so i have to really stay on track. It's only a couple of weeks away and i've already decided that when we are on the boat i am going to eat a sensible breakfast and lunch and then eat whatever i want for dinner! So a full week of eating whatever i choose and i want to enjoy it knowing that i worked my butt off until it was time to leave. Even though i'll probably have 10 more lbs to lose when i get back :p

Day one Motivated
Day two craving pizza
day three felt like CRAP!
Day 4 feeling great and no crab cravings!

Its not that hard but I've already been eating healthy it just takes a little more time in buying and prepping veggies.
This was me too. Although I was craving pasta like no one's business.

I never really went off of the book recipes. Nothing interested me. So I just stuck to things I came up with off the approved foods list. Which sometimes included eating ricotta cream for breakfast before I could stomach eggs. :P

chrisnjen - re: breakfast. I used to do the same thing. But since I started eating protein for breakfast, it's stopped. I would have a muffin or some cereal, and it would raise my blood sugar, but then it would plummet again before lunch and I would eat for the rest of the day. Finally getting myself to eat eggs has been really really good for me. And I found that the new Quaker Weight Control oatmeal has been great for me too. I was skeptical, but it really sits with me until at least lunch. I rec. the cinnamon flavor over the banana, for sure.

30 calories per serving. 4 candies per serving, so 7.5 calories per piece! I got the fruit flavors, but it looks like they also come in mints, butterscotch, and sorbet flavors too.

Day one Motivated
Day two craving pizza
day three felt like CRAP!
Day 4 feeling great and no crab cravings! This has been my exact experience as well. I woke up this morning feeling pretty crappy though. A little food in the belly has helped, but I assume I'm going to have another day like day three (the day I ran out and bought the Sugar-Free Life Savers).

Butterscotch!!! Cool. I will try and find them when I go grocery shopping!

Also, does anyone have an herb rub they put on fish and chicken that is yummy?? Last night I had my flounder baked and it was very BLAH. Any suggestions? I considered garlic powder, but figured it wouldn't be that great.

On my salmon, I use McCormick's Herb Chicken Seasoning, along with some dill weed & black pepper. It's pretty good on salmon, and I'd imagine it would be pretty good on Flounder as well. Also, since Flounder is a fairly bland fish, if you like spicy... maybe look for some Cajun spices?

ETA: Oh yeah - one other thing I just thought of. If you wouldn't mind waiting for the UPS man, Tom Douglas's "Rub With Love" (https://secure.nwlink.com/tomdouglas.com/products/spice-rub.html)rubs are awesome.

I have McCormick's chicken seasoning that I sprinkle on chicken breasts and then bake them - it's pretty good. I'm not much help with fish as I do eat that plain (I found frozen tilapia fillets in the store, 2 for $1, and they microwave in four minutes).

I had a "yay" moment last night - I'm doing WW Core and that allows for whole-wheat pasta, so I was planning on having my bolognese sauce with that, but ended up having it with veggies instead. And I was full! It was nice to be able to say no thanks to pasta - I'm a carboholic like so many others here!

Lemon is pretty good with fish and chicken. Mom got me this drizzle/marinade that is lemon and honey and it tastes great on chicken and fish (from William & Sonoma).

Tuesday was great, got ot he gym and the ipod kept me on the elliptical for 30 minutes and weight training and stretching for 1 hour! That's the most I've been able to go on a solo workout without totally losing concentration. I felt bad yesterday for eating out with a friend and having spinach dip and quesadillas and a beer. However, I've been tracking everything I eat and do on fitday.com, and its made me feel a little bit better since it says I'm burning more calories than I'm getting. I'm sore from lifting, but I'll be at the gym tomorrow. :D

First, I'm off to eat a few chocolate chips -- great idea!!!

Second, I agree it's neat to know WHY the water helps. But today has been my first day REALLY drinking a lot of water, and I feel so so so bloated and full and nasty! Does this go away after a few days? I've probably had around 50-60 oz of water today. haven't kept count, but I've had 4-5 giant glasses.

Week 1 = skip... I lost a total of 3.5 lbs. in Challenge #4

Hey ladies! I hope to post more in this thread than I did in Challenge #4. I hired a Personal Trainer and she is absolutely kicking my butt!! It's a good thing, but my legs are so unbelievably sore. And the thing is, the bathroom at work is downstairs and I try to drink two 64 oz. bottles/day, so I have to constantly run to the bathroom. I feel like such an old woman walking down the stairs!

She is only doing weight training with me. Cardio is on my own and I've been doing really great so far. 3 days in a row! Woot!

I'm on day 3 of the South Beach Diet. It hasn't been too bad so far. I'm a vegetarian, so it throws a little curveball in the plan, but so far, so good!

Here's what I had yesterday:

Breakfast
Egg beaters with asparagus and lots of black pepper!

Snack
Low sodium V8

Lunch
Eggplant "manicotti" (eggplant wrapped around some low-fat ricotta/spices

Snack
String Cheese

Dinner
A CarbSmart bar (went straight from work to the gym, got home at 8:30... too late to eat, so my PT gave me a bar...)

AHammer: Glad the chocolate chips idea helped! YAY! Yes the bloated feeling does go away after a few days b/c if your not used to drinking it you'll retain it but soon you'll just be constanly going to the restroom, lol. It almost sucks having to drink so much water but trust me it pays off in more ways than weight loss. Regular bowl movements, skin looks brighter and better, my hair seems to be more shiney, and I just have more energy. Good Luck!

I went out to lunch today which is usually a disaster for me, but I was shockingly good. I had blackened chicken breast, broccoli, and cinnamon mashed sweet potatoes. I asked the waiter if the potatoes were made with butter and he confirmed with the kitchen that they weren't, they were made with veggie broth. I also had them hold the butter sauce on the chicken, so the whole meal was Core and very, very tasty! Then I hit Starbucks for a non-fat latte, which I love and also happens to be Core, thank goodness!

I missed the gym this morning - worked late last night and was too tired. But I'll go tomorrow. And weigh-in on Saturday... I'm just hoping the scale budged!

Congrats to all the "losers" this week. My weigh in is on Monday and I don't step on the scale before then!! 2-8lb LOSSES ARE SUPER!!

I did really well last night. We ate dinner together and then we went jogging/running/walking for two miles. My legs were really working hard.

Friday's Menu:

Breakfast--
1/2 cup of egg white with one whole egg scrambled with 1 tbsp of skim milk
2 slices of white toast
2 sprays of I can't believe its not butter spray
1 glass of grape juice

Snack--
container of Dannon Light Strawberry yogurt

Lunch--
7oz of water packed tuna
2 tbsp of lofat mayo

Dinner--
salmon
1 cup of veggies
1/2 cup of mashed potates using skim milk

Snack--
2 cups of frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of organic lofat yogurt
water
(blended all together and made a smoothie)

Working Out: I will probably be doing more of the jogging/running/walking tonight for another two miles!

Also, I tried the following recipe last night and it was DIVINE. My husband LOVED it:

3-4 (4-6oz each) pieces of Mahi Mahi
sprinkle a generous amount of garlic powder on each
In a bowl mix together:
one can of Rotel
few squirts of lemon juice
few sprinkles of white wine (I don't put much of this...probably a teaspoon)

On a large 13x9 pan, place two pieces of tin foil and spray with PAM. Place the Mahi-Mahi down and cover with garlic powder. Slice up one LARGE onion into quarters and then slice down into smaller chunks. Spray onions with I can't believe its not butter spray. Place onions on top of and around Mahi Mahi pieces. Pour Rotel mixture over the Mahi Mahi and onions. Place a piece of tin foil over Mahi Mahi and place in 500 degree oven for 20-30 minutes. Remove top piece of tin foil and place fish under broiler for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes sprinkle fish with pepper jack cheese and put under broiler for 5 minutes. Serve!

We had the above fish last night and I had a 4oz piece of Mahi Mahi with the onions and rotel mixture. It was super good...a bit spicy, but it seemed to hold me really well. My husband flipped over it!!

I skipped the weight room last night, but I'm still optimistic because it was chore night so I was still moving. Tonight though, I'm hoping for a really motivating trip to the gym. I found a 500 calorie burning routine for the stationary bike in Fitness magazine last night so I'm looking forward to trying it. Also, hubby is coming with me and we're going to shoot hoops for a while. I know that we'll end up just laughing the entire time, so that will help the calorie burn as well!

Congrats to all the losers. I do weigh-ins on Sunday, so I will post then.

That Mahi-mahi recipe sounds interesting. I never cook fish at home because I'm scared to mess it up, but it sounds like something I could try.

I should post this in cooking, but I'm too lazy...where do you all buy your fish to use at home? Can I get it really clean so I don't have to do anything but grill/bake/whatever it?

I'm doing ok on exercise this week...not so good on food. I decided it was prob a bad thing when I ate a peice of chocolate on my way to the elliptical. I tried to rationalize that it was a mini bite size peice, but still...

I buy my fish in the frozen section of Sam's Club. I got a large bag of frozen individually packed salmon, mahi mahi and flounder. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. You don't have to clean the fish and they are individually packed so you can take out what you need, run it under cold water to defrost and then cook away. YUMMY!

Easiest fish recipe in the world: Get the frozen individually packed salmon like Bethnjim wrote about. Preheat your oven to 450. Spray some pam on a broiler pan. Put salmon on broiler pan. Put spices on fish (I use mccormick's chicken seasoning, dill, black pepper... but you could use anything!), and put fish in oven for 20-25 minutes.

While it's cooking, make yourself a nice salad and/or some veggies.

Please put me down for 0 lost this week. I want to do my weighs on the same scale, and that won't be till Monday. Unless I get everything done around the house and get my self to the gym this afternoon.

Ack! Someone evil brought See's Candies in the office! I couldn't resist... but I only had half a Bordeaux (my absolute favorites) and it was so rich, I knew I didn't need the other half. I did at least go to the gym this morning and do 40 minutes of hard cardio... so that was a tiny bit of absolution.

Hoping this weekend won't be too hard - my father is visiting from England and this is his last weekend here so we'll undoubtedly be going out for almost all our meals. Will have to scan menus carefully and make wise choices! My only saving grace is I weigh tomorrow morning before the eating madness starts... ;)

I'm so glad to see the loss this morning - all week I had been weighing the same thing. Guess the 2 hours of volleyball last night pushed me off that plateau :D

Great job everyone on the weight loss!!! :p

For some reason I thought 'weigh ins' were on Monday. I got on the scale this morning and was very pleased

Week 1: -8

So far so good. I had a rough night and made a few cheats, but I kept I didn't let it get out of control (only one bite of no-no food!).

I'm sorry for being dense, but I'm still confused. Can I weigh in on Sunday and still have it count as week 1? Or is that week 1 skip and week 2 whatever I post on Sunday?

oh shoot, i didnt weigh in today! can i do it tomorrow?

also, just curious, do you all weigh yourselves every day? my weight seems to jump a lot. im always in a 5 pound range, but i can jump up or down 3-4 pounds overnight, according to my scale. its going to make weigh in difficult for me. what do you do?

Janey
01-06-2006, 05:37 PM
do you all weigh yourselves every day?

I do. I notice that my weight goes steady, steady, steady... and I'll fluctuate just a pound or so... and then all of a sudden something inside me goes, "Okay! Everybody out! Abandon ship!" and I'll be down 5 lbs. in a few days. (Unfortunately this also works in reverse, so I'll be up five pounds in a matter of days.) I just figure that if I weigh myself every Friday, within the 7 week Challenge I'll have lost X amount of weight and it will even itself out. For instance, yesterday I was down another pound, but today I was 164.5. Maybe next week I'll be down an extra pound then, or maybe next week I'll be bloated from expecting AF and I'll really be glad I didn't log that extra -1, cause I'll need it to make myself feel better next week. :p

The once/week is sort of a cross-section of how you're doing in general. Week to week it doesn't matter too much, but over the course of time, you'll see the downward trend and that's what matters. :)

Sorry about the general confusion. Let me try to explain in a non-confusing kind of way... (i'll probably make things worse!)

Our weeks run Sunday through Saturday. Week 1 started last sunday and runs through tomorrow. If you weigh in on Sunday then that's week 2. If you joined during this week then SKIP week 1 and your weigh in after Sunday will be week 2.

There are some exceptions. For instance, if you usually weigh in on Friday but can't get to a scale until (lets say) Sunday then count that as the week you would've weighed in and then count the next Fridays weigh in as the current week as usual. Basically use your best judgement.

Hopefully that clears a few things up. If not just pm me! :D Good luck to everyone.

I weighed in today. Actually i went to weigh in and the center had been robbed and someone stole the scale, their computer and some supplements. Who the heck robs a LA Weight Loss center? So i went shopping and weighed in at another LAWL across town. My weigh in weight was 190.8. Only .8 shy of seeing 1 8 on the scale. I'm looking forward to Monday!

I'll try to get in over the weekend to add the new members and do updates. I don't usually do updates on the weekends but there's a lot of them so i'll do my best! Everyone have a good weekend!

This is the first time I've been able to check the thread since I signed up! For some reason I can't get ConstantChatter to come up on the internet at work

I see that some of you are extremely organized! Following a plan like WW or LAWL or even SouthBeach. Me, I'm just trying to cut out sweets and portion control. I'm not a calorie counter but I did do WW before and know that journaling really helps to get an accurate view of intake.

I ate a small bowl of cereal every day this week before going to work. Just getting up a little earlier to be able to fit this into my morning schedule was an accomplishment! I didn't give up my morning coffee at work for which I use the flavored CoffeeMate creamers - I'm counting that as my daily indulgence. I meet a work friend that I otherwise would not get to see throughout the day and we use our "aerolatte" to make coffee time exciting (and opposed to stopping at Starbuck's, more cost effective, too!)

I've also taken my lunch to work and not gorged myself at dinner. Having my DH (don't even know what that stands for, really - does that make me really lame? I'm not an online chatter, so I'm out of the loop, but I know it's a reference to our husbands - "darling" or "dumb"? I guess it just depends on how we're feeling about them at the moment!)... anyway - my husband working late helps cause then I don't feel the need to cook a dinner for which I always end up eating too much of.

I know in my mind that working out is going to have to become a ritual for me and just a part of my lifestyle, as much as I loath it and am dreading that feeling of starting when I'm so out of shape. But type 2 diabetes and cancer run in my immediate family so, aside from the desire to own a pair of Seven jeans and look darn good wearing them, I want to do this to ensure that I don't end up like my parents have.

While researching local gyms, something exciting happened. Long story short, a friend of mine joined a gym that is offering a new aerobic class that you need not be a member to take! 6 weeks, 1 flat fee... Urban Striptease! It started on Thursday and I've never had so much fun working out. Women only and I love to dance but have never taken a class, this was like a dance class. We went through a whole routine and at the end of the class I was hot and sweating and my legs have never been so sore... it ROCKED! Can't wait for Thursday to roll around again, and despite the fact that I was the heaviest person in the class, I didn't feel self conscious or that I was being judged!

WOW...I went on and on and on! I guess that is my weeks worth of ranting. I'll weigh in on Sunday and post what the verdict is. Hopefully it will be an lb. less!

Thanks and good luck on week 2 ~N :p

I have one change and an update:

Starting weight: 125.6
Week 1: -2.4 / 123.2

I didn't think I would lose this week because I was having such a problem with motivation. Somehow I managed to control my cravings and make it through week 1 to see results! This should make week 2 so much easier for me.

put me at 0 for this week

im not surprised but i am disappointed. though its not a total wash, my stomach looks flatter and i can fit into jeans that were too tight a few weeks ago.

ive just been too busy to exercise. we are moving on monday, so im packing, making phone calls, organizing, and taking care of both kids. i tried to exercise today but only got about 5 minutes into the video.

usually this is where i would give up, but seeing everyones elses success is totally motivating me to keep going.

mrs hill thanks for answering my question about weighing. i tend to check my weight almost every day, and i always seem to be in the same 5 pound range. you are totally right that i should be looking at the bigger picture and hoping the numbers go down over a period of a few weeks, not just a few days. im too darn impatient :p

Nancy Drew, you know I thought of something that helped me when I was doing my major diet 2 years ago. I would log my weight in an Excel Spreadsheet every day... a very simple one with one column for Date and one column for Weight. Then I had a graph for it... so I could see the downward trend in color and know I was doing a good job, even if day to day I was up and down like a stock ticker. Anyway... if you have Excel... might be something to try??

Here's my chart from September 2003 to April 2004. I'd lost 70 pounds in that time and you can see that there were gains and plateaus in there -- the one in Feb/March was absolutely maddening!! -- but I knew that generally I was doing okay. (Ignore the "predicted weight" line... that was me doing math to prove to myself that I was doing the calories in/calories out wrong... which is when I got BalanceLog and a Heart Rate Monitor so I could quit fooling myself into thinking I was doing better than I was)

mrs hill wow, that is impressive when you see it like that. i think there are some websites out there that do weight loss tickers, kind of like the pregnancy or countdown tickers. maybe i should do that, since im not really familiar with excel. great idea! also, do you have a digital scale? mine is... um, whatever the opposite of digital is. is it worth having the digital readout so i can be more precise or will that drive me mad?

MrsHill- That's a good idea! I hadn't considered excel. I use the weight tracker on fertility friend. I think its part of the free membership but i've been getting the VIP membership for so long i don't remember. It's definitely important to see the downward weight loss!

Here's mine so far... down 30.2 lbs!
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ttc/wchart/16ed6a4a19b0c58362020bf2d2ad1f5f.png?1136662982

The green line is my half way point. I only have to lose 5.3 more lbs to be half way. I'll be there in 3 weeks! You can also make a ticker that keeps track of it and it's nice to see the weightloss icon move!

My ticker can be found in my signature link to ff.

Every little success no matter how small even if it's maintaining should be celebrated! Just don't celebrate with food! :D

I usually weigh myself everyday and the number does jump around. Because I'm doing this challenge, I'm going to try NOT to weigh everyday. It will be more exciting that way.

I have another motivation for this month- my work party! It's the 21st and I'm wearing the same dress I wore to a friend's wedding in December '04. I tried it on today and it's a little snug (I'm up about 8lbs since then) so I figure I have 2 weeks for it to feel comfortable again.

Today I ate pretty well and then did my couch to 5K interval. I also added on another 25 minutes of fast walking. I'm heading out to dinner with my family tonight and I'm hoping there's something healthy on the menu!

Keep at it girls!!!

Well, weighing myself at what I now call "skinny time" thanks to y'all, I'm currently at 145! That's -5 from last Sunday!

I've always hated treadmills, but the one here at my apt complex has become my new best friend, because it's one of my only workout options for cardio. Yesterday I jogged (on and off with walking in between, I have to admit, but still!) for 12 minutes. I have NEVER EVER EVER been able to jog/run for more than 1 minute without feeling cramps in my side and just terrible overall, and yesterday one of my jogs was 4 minutes, so I'm proud of the improvements I've made over the past week and a half.

Hope everyone has a good week!!!

Week 1: -1.5 / 234.5
However I back slid the week before we started and was at 241.5 a few days before the challenge started so in about 9 days I lost 7 pounds.

I did have 3 small pieces of pizza for dinner last night I took some benefiber before made sure it was thin crust and lots of veggies. And went for a walk after and my blood sugar was only 3 point over my target for 2 hours post eating so I think the fiber trick works.

If you're not familiar with SBD - Doc says that your body has to work 'harder' to get at the easy carbs like white flour and potatoes if you eat them with fiber b/c your stomach has to seperate out the fiber from the carbs before your intestine can process them. So its better to eat lots of salad and fresh veggies if you're going to be naughty b/c it makes your stomach work harder and longer before you can digest those. Being diabetic that's a good thing. He specifically mentions drinking some metamucil 15 minutes before naughty carbs to slow your body down. Obviously having a target only 3 points over this theory WORKS.

so if you're going to have pasta or pizza try a glass/chewable tablets of fiber and see if that doen't help you keep your weight in control.

Yes, ruledbymercury is correct. Weigh in on whatever day of the week is best for you. For you own personal tracking it's best to try to do it on the same day every week. But you can weigh in whichever day suits you then just post your results.

Sadly I have and use both I never trust them to be right! my digi can be a brat if you don't stand on it just so - and the dail scale is right there.

I want DH to cut a Dr. Scale into the wall when we get a house so that the pad is in the floor and the weights and balances are behind a door in the wall so that its out of the way no pun intended

Doing OK today (weekends are usually awful for me). Went out to breakfast and subbed a fruit cup for the spuds and gave DH half my bacon (I have it once a week - such a treat!). DH is BBQing now, and I'm having Boca burgers instead of regular - although I'm not doing Flex on WW, a Boca burger is 2pts and a regular one is 9. Plus, with some LF cheese and grilled onions, the Boca one is actually fairly tasty.

do you use a digital scale or regular scale?

I have a WW scale - it's digital and weighs in 0.1lb increments. It also allows you to record/save your previous weight if you like, and I believe up to four people can keep track of their weights on it. Plus, it has sensors to make sure you stand "square" on it, so that helps keep the weight true (apparently). I think it was about $45 from Bed, Bath and Beyond. My only "hint" is to always weigh in the same spot, preferably on tile - that will help make the reading accurate. Which may or may not be a good thing... ;)

I went to the gym, Golds Gym, using a 7 day pass that I printed off their site. The aerobic class I talked about before is at a Golds Gym, too, but a different location. I feel that if my husband and I joined, it would be something that we could enjoy together but he's reluctant (doesn't want to spend the money). As it is now, the time we spend together involves eating and watching movies. I live in Seattle and the weather is not great for walks and such this time of year.

Does anyone belong to a gym and do you feel it's worth the money?

I really liked the facility I went to today, it's brand new and has a "ladie's area" for women only - it's 10 miles from where we live and 1/2 way between work and home, which means if I could get motivated to get up early, I could work out in the a.m., shower and get ready there and head straight for work. For a joint membership they want 109.00 per month (and that's their special price!) not to mention a 300 enrollment fee! Wow!

AHammer
01-08-2006, 05:04 PM

I live in Seattle as well, and we don't let the weather stop us. We go out for my Couch-to-5k runs on T/TH/SAT no matter what the weather is like. I ran last Thursday that day when we had 2" of rain. Goretex is good. :p I also belong to a gym... I don't know which one you looked at, but I belong to AllStar Fitness (http://www.allstarfitness.com/) and I like it a LOT. They have awesome classes and I love going swimming at the one downtown -- it is on the 14th floor and you swim with a view of the smith tower, columbia tower, etc. It's very cool... It's also very crowded right now, but that's to be expected right after the new year. Anyway, and not nearly $109/month. It's more like $30/month if I remember right.

nancy drew, I use a digital scale. It's a Tanita that I bought years ago from BB&B. It only does half-pound increments, but I that's detailed enough for me... they use a tenth-pound scale at my diet class though.

AHammer ~ we do have 24 hour fitness near our home actually, which would be good since we are sharing a car right now, but it's really run down and not nearly as nice as the Golds I went to today. There is another one about 5 miles away that was just remodeled that I should check out. And it would be 1/2 the price - thanks ;)

MrsHill ~ I'm impressed... running no matter what! I'm not a runner - prefere walking and Hikes up near Mt. Si. My husband works retail hours and I'm m-f, regular office hours so it's hard for us to get out together - and since the sun sets practically a 1/2 hour after it rises (ha!) I don't want to run or walk alone in the dark. AllStar looks nice and is a much better price but we live and work on the East Side. Good to know you love it and that you use it... Hopefully we'll find the right one for us a the right price. :D

Talkalotturner - Ahhh eastside. When I lived on the Eastside I went to American Woman Fitness. It's now located by Magnolia HiFi in Bellevue.. back when I went it used to be right of I90. It was fairly inexpensive as well, but Women's Only which doesn't help your hubby too much. :/ I think I saw a thing that AllStar was putting a gym in Redmond... but who knows when that will be. Anyone making any changes or additions to thier challenge routine this week? My goal for this week is to increase the ammount of water I am drinking.

I also want to increase my exercise routine to 20 minutes every other day. I know it seems slow, but it's a start and I don't want to overwhelm myself by trying too much too soon. I don't want to get discouraged at how out of shape I am. I need to build up my endurance slowly and stick to it.

Also from when i was sick i wasn't drinking my normal 64-80oz of water, so i'm trying to get back up to at least 64.

Anyone making any changes or additions to their challenge routine this week?Yes! I'm hopping back on the exercise wagon this week. I'm going back to Baby Boot Camp classes with DD today (we haven't had class since the first week of December due to the holidays). We're in the process of finishing our basement, but once that is done we're moving our treadmill down there and I'll be doing a treadmill circuit on my boot camp off days.

Week 1: -6/144

BMI: 30%
I have been working out since Thanksgiving and this is the first week where I have not fluxuated one or two pounds up & back. I'm very excited. I expect to stay in this zone for a couple of weeks until I push myself even harder. To top it off, hubby is also down 10 pounds! He has a lot more weight to lose than I do, but he's making progress. Using FitDay has helped me tremendously in monitoring my calories. Plus, I have been trying to eat at least 30 grams of fiber a day, which will help as well. This last week, we went to the gym on T, W, F, Sa, Su, so I think we'll just keep it steady at that. Along with doing cardio and lifting, we've been playing some one-on-one basketball for half an hour which gets our hearts going again. Plus, it leads us home to get our heart's pumpin' again - if you know what I mean ;)

Congrats and let's keeping going everyone!!

I know I had a bad weekend. It's hard to eat healthy on a strict budget good for you food costs more. Does anyone have budget friendly figure friendly meal ideas? At least I have 2 days to try to regain some sort of control:D

Kingdono, you are so right. Healthy food is usually more expensive -- especially in the dead of winter, as we are. :( I try to be a healthy shopper but a savvy one at the same time. I buy fruits, veggies, and meats on sale & freeze when I can, and 'allow' my budget the more expensive low-cal condiments to put on them.

- I only buy the fresh produce that's On Sale at the grocery store. If broccoli is on sale, we have that for dinner. I know it's hard to know at the moment, what's a good price and what isn't, but it won't take long. I now know that $1.59/lb is a high price for Fuji Apples, and $1.29 is about average. Last week it was on sale for $0.50/lb, which was GREAT and I bought about 20 apples. Apples keep refrigerated for a long time & make great snacks.

- When you see frozen veggies you like that are on sale at the grocery store, stock up! I've read that frozen veggies actually have more vitamins in them than fresh because they're frozen earlier, so I never feel bad about eating frozen veggies. We eat more frozen veggies than fresh, but more fresh fruits than frozen.

- There is a produce stand here called McPherson's that sells produce at about 1/3 the cost of the grocery store. I came out of there with 4 grocery bags of produce for $11 last time I went. Look in the phone book to find out if there's a similar stand in your city. I'd never have known about McPherson's until I moved to this neighborhood, cause they don't advertise!

I buy a lot of stuff inexpensively at Costco or Cash & Carry: Frozen Berries, Yukon Gold Potato, Bananas, Apples, Chicken Breasts, Frozen mixed veggies, Frozen shrimp, yellow onions, mushrooms, oranges, grapefruits.

I also shop at Trader Joe's... some good deals can be had there.

I hope that helped!

I've got to quit drinking so much caffeine free diet coke and more WATER. Water bores me, but I always feel so much better when I'm at 64 oz. I know I'll lose 3-5 pounds just by starting the water in my plan so I have no idea what's holding me back... but I just think "uggggggg" every time I think about water.

Kellijo14, are you using the FitDay software, or the online thing? I've been using BalanceLog, which seems to work Okay but I sure have to add a lot of foods to it. I am wondering if FitDay keeps their food databases updated better than BalanceLog does.

My weigh in day is Sunday. So for Week 1: Skip.
Week 2: -1/197

I'm a little disappointed. I thought it would be more as I have busted my butt on the treadmill almost every day. However, my legs are sore so I know something is happening. And something needs to happen, believe me.

I totally agree with this. We eat a LOT of frozen veggies and always buy the bags when they are buy one get one free or reduced price.

Also, we have a store called Produce Junction in our area that sells fruit and veggies at a very cheap rate. I normally get about 3 bags for $15 or so.

I use the online version. When I started out this time, I took 10-15 minutes and entered in a lot of the food I was eating, such as my granola bars, the bread we use, the peanut butter we use, etc, just so it could be more personalized for me. I was finding that I was spending more time searching than if I just entered it in myself. There are a bunch of things in the database that I do use so it's a happy medium. I think by personalizing it with entering in food gives us a more accurate picture of the calories we're eating. If you've started to personalize BalanceLog, then you should probably stick with using it, unless it doesn't keep your personalized food saved.

I understand what you mean about water. I always buy the flavored kind now and have a much easier time with it. I love the Dasani Raspberry water, but I also drink other brands and other flavors.

I'm trying to drink more water this week too. When I first started dieting back in 2003, I pretty much drank nothing but water. Back then I hated diet sodas and MUCH prefered water to just about anything else with zero calories. Eventually I developed a taste for diet soda (especially with the new flavored Diet Cokes that have come on the market) and now I can't stand regular soda. So I find myself more and more turning to diet soda when I'm thirsty. I still drink water, but not nearly as much as I once did. I need to get back to choosing water over everything else.

It's just past noon and I've already had about 36 oz. If I can double that by the end of the day I will be pleased.

ETA: Make that 48 oz! I just need one more 12 oz glass during my workout and another glass during dinner and I'll be done! However, I did drink a Diet Dr. Pepper with my lunch...

Well, I bought a new scale and it shows a loss of 3 lbs! It's supposed to read high, too, so I'm happy with that number. I'm not officially entering it yet, though, because I want to see how it looks later this week when I try the same scale.

This week I'm going to really try to pay attention to fullness signals. I already find myself just not as hungry on this diet, and my portions are much smaller, usually (I put away a huge salad at Crocodile Cafe the other day, but I did resist the bread basket and order dressing on the side). So that's an ongoing thing.
