Ok, so I just bought these in a cafe-au-lait color:

What type of socks is appropriate to wear with them? White? Brown? Cream? I'm clueless. This is the first pair of non-casual mules I've bought simply because I have no idea what to wear "under" them.

I would not wear socks. I would wear nylons or no socks at all.

I don't think I'd wear socks with them at all. If they're dressy and you feel you need something, maybe a nude stocking. Otherwise, nothing at all.

I agree with Mrs. Alting. I wouldn't wear socks with those shoes either. Any shoe that shows toes or heels should IMO be worn with nylons or nothing at all.

But it's coooolllllld! :) I'm wearing them w/out socks right now and my toes are freezing.
Ok, so no socks. Not even trouser socks? *sigh* See, this is why I don't buy mules.
Maybe I'll go buy some very sheer knee highs.

i was just going to suggest the sheer knee highs, although, your feet might slip out of them with any kind of hose or trouser socks.

I don't know where you are but I'm guessing it isn't Florida? To me those shoes are summer/spring shoes and I would never wear them this time of year. But then again we got 35 cm of snow yesterday. :)

Karen -
Target makes a great pair of tights that is "nude" colored. They keep my legs pretty comfortable in the winter. In the store they look beige/tan but when you wear them, they look more nude.
/hijack/ lindsan - i didn't know it snowed in hell!! :D

I'd wear either trouser socks or nylon knee highs. I wear more casual mules straight through the winter, except for when it snows, but there's no way I'd go without socks!

Bwahahaha, well I guess it finally is freezing over. I wonder what comes next! ;)

Heh. I'm in Georgia. I guess in colder climates they would be summer shoes. I see people wearing mules year round here ... but maybe I'll just retire them until it gets warmer. :)

Karen, what about something like this for mules and cold toes? ;) Hue makes them -- they are toe socks :) Don't go past your mid-foot.

I think trouser socks would be fine, and I'd match them to my pants.

I definitely would not wear any sort of sock (trouser, hose, knee-high, etc.) with those shoes. Not only do I dislike the look, but I find that my feet slide around way too much if I'm not sock-less.

I always wear trouser socks with mules. I hate the feeling of bare feet sweating and sticking to shoes. If it's unfashionable, so be it.

Yup, I wear the toe covers too. They make them a bit 'slippy' but they're comfortable.

I was just going to post about HUE's too! And the toe covers. :)
I prefer NOTHING and even in cold weather I just grin and bear it.

They have those toe covers at Walmart also!
