(May not pertain to this board but it does deal with weddings somehow.)
3 stone - 5 stone, eternity, semi eternity, etc.....
Yesterday, my Godmother proudly showed me her anniversary ring that my Uncle gave her for their 15-16 years of marriage. I thought it was pretty. My other Aunt sees it and pretty much says, "Hey I got a similiar one but thats supposed to be for 10 years.
I did a search for these "rules" or calender appointed guidelines but found none.
How do you know?
Anyone familiar with this?
There are no rules.
My wedding band is technically an anniversary band - 11 channel set diamonds in a white gold band. I just liked how it looked better with my e-ring, which is a very simple diamond solitaire.

I found this, here (http://www.butterfieldjewelers.com/Pages/wedding.html):
Anniversary Rings
Any diamond wedding band is also considered an anniversary ring. It is usually worn next to the engagement ring and often on the outside, with the original wedding band worn on the inside. In many cases, the anniversary band is simply an upgrade from an original plain band. There is no rule on when an anniversary band is given, but important milestones like 5,10,15,20 & 25 years are often the occasion. The importance and symbolism is obvious and a diamond anniversary band is the most tasteful and elegant way to say that you’d marry her all over again.

I have two nine-stone diamond and ruby bands that I wear as my wedding bands.
My take is, the occasion/reason the jewelry was given dictates what it's called. My rings are wedding bands, but if DH had given them to me as a anni gift they'd be anni rings (engagement, birth, birthday etc).

There are no rules and no supposed-tos for this. No reason not to give it for a 15th or 16th as opposed to a 10 or 25 year anniversary. Like some others have posted, my wedding band itself is five diamonds.
