And even though we are of diverse religious backgrounds, the sentiments in this meditation, written by craftgenius, apply to us all.
Lord, thank you for giving us this gift of pregnancy, and give us all the strength and the faith we need to make it through a healthy 9 months. We realize that our lives and the lives of our babies are in your hands, and that worrying and paranoia on our parts will do no good. Give us peace of mind that everything will work out according to YOUR will. Give us the patience to go through each day and each week worry-free...allowing us to enjoy our pregnancies and rejoice in the blessings you have given us. We pray for the ladies who have lost their pregnancies and know that you have the power to bring them through any difficult days they have ahead. Give them the strength and the desire to continue to try to conceive, because we know that you have something wonderful in store for them in the near future. We know that with you, ALL things are possible....AMEN
The threadmistresses are Aletheia and Camdynlyn.

*Keep in mind that we really just don't know that much about medicines in pregnancy-- pregnant women are not exactly a group scientists can test to determine the safety of any given drug. So all medicines should be used sparingly, and ideally with the blessing of your doctor. My midwife suggests that if the drug will help you breathe, sleep, or eat, it will help you better care for your growing baby. Just don't take too much of any one thing, esp. during the first trimester.

Things to do this month:
Your Kegel's! It's not too early!
Take your vitamins!
Eat lots and lots of protein and calcium! 72-78 grams of protein a day. That's 4 ounces of meat and 2 servings of non-starchy vegetables. Veggie? Peanut protein, lots more veggies, legumes.
Make a doctor's appointment!
Tell the father! (Okay, I HOPE you've done this already.)
Write a letter to your Maybe Baby. How do you feel?
Make plans for how to tell whom when...
Read up on how best to take care of yourself.

Since we have so many RO's, we've asked them to recommend their single most favorite baby item. Here are the specs we've asked for:
Recommending RO:
Wowy Item Brand Name:
Wowy Item Description:
The things you love most about it:
Tiny things you wish were different, if any:
Ballpark Cost:
Where to get it, if not easy to find:
And, if you want, a runner up wowy item:
Recommending RO: portlandbride
Wowy Item Brand Name: Miracle Blanket
Wowy Item Description: It's the best swaddle blanket ever! I bought the other ones and just wasted my money. This one does cost more and is worth every penny!
The things you love most about it: It just works so well. Baby cannot break out of it and it can be used for a very long time. DD was swaddled until she was 7 months or so.
Tiny things you wish were different, if any: N/A
Ballpark Cost: $30ish
Where to get it, if not easy to find: www.miracleblanket.com
Recommending RO: Mommy2AlliWill
Wowy Item Brand Name: Baby Bjorn or other carrier (some people prefer slings)
Wowy Item Description: The Bjorn wraps over your back & the baby sits in the front of you (facing in as a newborn & out as an infant)
The things you love most about it: I so needed to be hands free (especailly with my 2nd) & sometimes baby wants to be held anyhow I used my bjorn constantly. I know there are a million other slings & carriers. We loved the Bjorn but every one has their own preference. The important thing is to find something you like that will snuggle baby close & still allow you hands free sometimes.
Any things you wish were different, if any: nada
Ballpark Cost: $80
Where to get it, if not easy to find: we registered for ours at BRU but you can get them anywhere. If you go the sling route there are even mom's on CC who will sew you one from any fabric you choose.
And, if you want, a runner up wowy item: Any lightweight stroller
RO: Dotsie
Angel Care Mat
cost ~ $100
What it does. It monitors the movement of the baby while it's sleeping. If there is no movement (including breathing) in 30 seconds, it sounds an alarm. It is placed under the mattress of the crib, bassinett, etc. It also acts like a traditional baby monitor as well. It is the very best money we have ever spent. We have to buy a new one for the new baby.
Where to get it? BRU and some online sites have them.

one of my favorite non standard items was a bumbo chair
Which can be found, among other places, here:
http://www.bumboseat.com/adwords/bumbowords1.html
I bought mine off ebay, but they are sold by a variety of merchants now, I know One Step Ahead has them in their catalogs.
This is certainly not something you HAVE to have, but it was really helpful for us. DS liked to sit up to look around, well before he was actually strong enough to sit up for long periods of time on his own, this helped with that. Plus when they're small it makes for a handy high chair that you can put anywhere and it's a quick and easy restraining chair for if you need them somewhere safe (because of the angle of the seat they can't pull themselves out until they are bigger and stronger). I really loved this.
http://www.bumboseat.com/images/mom-feeding-baby-in-bumbol-seat.jpg
I also loved my mei tai carrier (I ordered mine from a WC/CC mama at www.rosiebaby.com). I commuted with DS on the bus and subway to get us into the city for work and daycare - the stroller was too difficult to maneuver (it needs to be closed up on the bus) and DS quickly outgrew the Bjorn (he wasn't even hugely fat - about 70th percentile - but his torso was so wide around I couldn't close the bjorn around him after he was maybe 5 months old). This time I'm going to get a pouch for brand new babywearing but since I haven't used one yet, I don't want to recommend one either.
Another thing we love, although this is pretty personal to everyone, is the cd Global Lullabies by Freyda Epstein
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002M7H.01._AA130_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It's sort of like Enya does lullabies. Very soothing for DS, and very listenable to me - which is huge since we have to listen to it every night.
Random other - I love our monitor. I'm not seeing it right off on the BRU website. But what I love about it is that the receivers can have sound or you can turn the sound off and see the volume coming from your childs room based on the number of light bars that are lit up. This has become more and more useful because when we put DS to bed he likes to "talk" to his friends for a while. I don't want to hear his talking while I'm watching tv or on the phone or whatever, so I can turn the sound down. I know if there's something more serious wrong, because instead of one or two bars all of a sudden there are three or four light bars. Again, not a must have feature, but a really useful extra.
Last thing I'd list is my breast pump. I had the Medela Pump In-Style Advanced. As I mentioned before, my son wouldn't nurse (no matter how many lactation consultants we met with and things that we tried) so I was an exclusive pumper for his entire first year. Let me tell you, I got to know that pump very very well! It worked well for me, had a sufficiently strong suction, could do both breasts at once, and it looked enough like a work bag that I didn't feel like I was screaming "GOING TO LACTATE NOW" while walking through my office. My only downside to it was if you happened to be somewhere with no electrical outlet, it just destroyed batteries. That and it was expensive (over $200 plus then I ended up buying new parts - tubing, bottles, horns etc because I wore them out) but the money was well worth it.

When did you suspect, pre-test, that you were PG?
I had been feeling sparkley pointed pains in my tummy since 5 dpo, but on 10 dpo I started to be so amazingly gassy... at that point, I just sort of knew. But I wasn't so certain that I knew knew! Thank goodness for PG tests.

Dawny, welcome! 8 dpo ???? My goodness! That's sooo early.
I'll update as soon as I'm not at a dial-up connection (!)-- my mom lives in another generation, I guess. Thanks for the cheers from other visitors, too!
We got bumped off our flight yesterday (to the tune of $800 of travel vouchers) so it was a really, really long day. I think I'm experiencing round ligament pain already. I was tired, hungry, and sore all day yesterday.
More later!
ETA: So, here is my first belly pic. I think I should have taken one before ovulation and before bloating, because usually I'm not so squishy looking. :)

I'm at home with my mom, sis, and grandpa, and we're not telling them yet. It's so hard! And I'm tired and don't feel quite right, so it's hard to make excuses. One more week... we'll see how it goes.
Dawny- Do you feel symptoms at 8 dpo? That's so early.

Merry Christmas!!
Welcome Dotsie Glad to have you here!!
Alatheia - No real symptoms, other than sore bbs (which I never get). However, on 9DPO, I started having lots of weird cramping (like my uterus was really heavy and pushing down), totally unike AF cramps. So, if I haden't already known, I'd have known by how I was feeling on 9DPO. I have a really short LP anyway (maybe 11-12 days), so I don't know if that has any effect on getting an early +.
Our families are so excited for us!! I'm really excited, but terrified of getting morning sickness. I have M/S so severe with #1 that I was on medication from 6 weeks to 7 months! So, I'm really hoping that does not happen this time around.
Well, I must be off - I'm making pizza. I realllllyyyy want pizza, and of course, everything is closed today.
I'm also in bloat city - ugh!!

Thanks Camdenlyn!! My m/s started last week. I swear the day I implanted the nausea started. I'm a little nervous too because with #1 I was so sick for about 6 weeks. It didn't start until I was about 8-9 weeks though.

We were taking the month off due to infertility testing and the fact that I was supposed to start Clomid this week, so I don't exactly know when I O'ed. It had to be after CD21 because my bloodwork from that day came back saying I hadn't O'ed yet. So we are guessing my EDD is around Sept. 1.
Alatheia~ I am doing a fitness boot camp and both Wed. and Thurs. nights I struggled through the class. I kept having to modify things because I was so tired. For a moment I thought that maybe I was pg, but it was a fleeting thought because of my bloodwork results and us not timing anything this month. Starting Thursday, I lost my appetite, which is really weird for me around the holidays. Saturday morning while lying in bed I was counting up what cycle day I was on and decided to test just so that I could confirm that I wasn't pg and wait for AF to show and to start Clomid. Got my BFP. I ate very little this weekend and none of my favorite holiday foods sounded good to me. Yesterday the bbs were on fire and after I ate my oatmeal this morning, I felt a little pukey. So the symptoms are kind of/sort of starting to show up.

I would love to join, although I will also do it somewhat cautiously. It took us a long time to get here and I am still in shock. I was just starting to look up fertility centers and RE's because we had finished our round of infertility testing with my gyn. Everything from the SA and HSG came back normal this fall and I was getting so discouraged to be diagnosed as unexplained. I stared at my digital test for the longest time! It has been an unbelievable Christmas this year!

Welcome to Camdynlyn, Kristi32302, Stephanie & UTChick!! I hope I didn't miss anyone. I'm so happy to see our little group growing!
Camdynlyn I really bloated as well, I need to remember to take a belly shot, cause I think I'm going to get bigger faster with this pregnancy. I really don't remember being this bloated this early in my first pregnancy.
My first Dr. appt is Jan. 4th. It's an appt. with my GP, so he won't do anything more than give me a referral to the OB. I am telling him I want the OB from my first Pg. She was so wonderful!! He may send me for bloodwork, but I doubt it.
I'm feeling so strange. There are times when I am really crampy, and times when I don't feel preggo at all. No sore BBS, no cramps. Then maybe an hour later, BBS are sore, cramps are there again. It's still so early - I'm 16 dpo today. But, I know I'm pregnant, so I'm not worried!

I am so glad I am not the only one who is extremely bloated. It is bad, and I am not even eating that much. I went in this morning for my quantitative beta HCG. I should have results back tomorrow and then I will go in on Friday morning to do it again to make sure my numbers are increasing like they should be. For some reason, I started feeling nervous after I left the dr.'s office. I think I might go buy and take another HPT just to put my mind at ease. It is exciting to see our little group growing everyday! Have a good day!

I'm 5 weeks today!
hi Girls! We are turning into a little bunch aren't we?
My first "nurse" visit is Jan 17th. They don't do blood tests, just urine. I'll meet with the nurse obvisiously. My first Dr visit it Feb 1st. I think i'll be 10 weeks then. With DS I saw the Dr at 8 weeks but it's ok I guess. I was kinda surprised they wanted to wait so long because with this pregnancy I'll be high risk. But the stuff they need to check with this pregnancy won't be visible till probably 16-20 weeks.
I'm not feeling any different yet. Hoping for no m/s this time around. I had such bad hyperemesis with DS that I couldn't get out of bed at times. I'm hoping it miss me this time since i'm busy chasing around a 16 month old.
The chinese gender chart- anyone have the link. I used to have it. FWIW, it was WRONG about DS. Said I was having a girl.
Have you girls told anyone yet? I broke down and told my Mom.

Hi everyone!
I have my first ob visit on Jan 9th and I have no idea what to expect. We are having a house built right now and will be moving in March, so I had to pick a new doctor. I don't know anyone where we are moving (only about 30 miles from current house) and I ended up picking a name off of a list. I keep telling myself that if I don't like him, then I just change! Right?
I don't have any symptoms really. I still have a hard time believing that I'm pregnant! My breasts are a bit sore, but not enough to be aware of it most of the time.
Question for anyone who can answer: When do you think first ultrasounds are? I am getting conflicting reports that some people don't get one until 18 or 20 weeks, but some get one to date the pregnancy and check for a heartbeat. I would love to get one earlier just to put my mind at ease.
Oh, and goldengbridge, we've told everyone! :) My husband was so excited to get back to the fire station and tell all the guys. After almost two years, we can't keep a secret! I would hate to have to take it all back if something awful happened, but I'm trying to be nothing but optimistic.
Welcome and congratulations to all!

Stepanie-Thats awesome! I'm so happy for you! Usually they do an ultrasound at the first visit to measure and check the heartbeat. Then the do one around 20 weeks to check organs, development, and most of the time they can tell the gender as long as the baby is cooperating:)

Sorry to keep bombarding this thread. Can you tell I'm at home bored??
I just called to check up on my maternity benefits. The good news first:
-ultrasounds and fetal monitoring (all I want) is free
The bad news:
-I have already met my deductible (did I mention my plan sucks?) which means I would only pay 20% until I reached the some odd dollar limit and they pay 100%. BUT, our plan starts over in July and that means if I don't meet my deductible before then, I will pay 100% until I do. Sucks! I have 2 months after July to do that. Ugh.

Summer~It sounds like our plans are very similar, but that is pretty unlucky that everything starts over in July. We start over in January, so I just have to pay 20% and then hit that certain dollar amount before they pay 100%. Insurance is so confusing! You're a teacher, right? I teach 4th grade and I am out until the 10th, so I'm home bored too. Although, I'm on a year round schedule and have been off all of Dec. Talk about running out of things to do!
Oh, and curiousity got the best of me and I called the ob's office to find out about my first appointment. I do get an ultrasound to check on the baby's progress and all that fun stuff!! I'm starting to really look forward to the 9th!

Hello!!
My dr's visit was pushed up (yay!) from the 11th to the 6th. They draw the blood, pap, etc. I am going to beg and plead for an u/s. I don't know how they'll react to that though. I have really great insurance so I don't think that would be too much of a prob.

Grr. So I called and left a message with the nurse line and they just called back. I'm really bummed. She didn't seem to informative. She said that the first appointment (with the prenatal nurse) is nothing but an hour long interview about family history and assigning a doctor. Then they will schedule the next appointment which will include the u/s. She said they want you to be at least 6 weeks before the u/s. I told her that's what they told me about the prenatal appointment and so I will be 6w3d and I don't understand why I have to be that far along for the prenatal? I tried calling back the appointment line to ask if I had to be at least 6 weeks for my prenatal if I'm not getting an u/s then but they are already closed.
This doctor was recommended to me by a friend who is on the boards and just had a baby but the first visit was just 'okay' and the staff has never been overly friendly. I just don't get the best vibe. Hmmm.

Lots of teachers in our little group so far - add me to the list as well! I teach high school (9-12), and our insurance program is terrible as well. But, I think you are referring to insurance as per hospital/ dr. visits, right? Thankfully we don't have to worry about any of that in Canada, as it's all paid for by the Govt. However, I have to say I'm so envious that you all get to have an U/S so early. Normally, where I live, you will only have one U/S throughout the pg - at about 18 weeks. I got to have 5 U/S with baby #1 because I was always measuring small, so I'm kinda hoping they will send me for a few extra this time as well - just because of the OB's concern with the first pregnancy.
I just took my 4W3D belly shot, but I'm too embarrassed to post them - I look about 3 months preggo - it's all bloat. I'm about 95 lbs, so any bit of weight/ bloat tends to show a lot!!

I will never post any belly pics of me here. I am 4w3d right now and look like I'm about 6 months. I gained a TON of weight with my DS and never lost about 25lbs of it so I am in no shape to be posting pics of myself.
I'm a systems analyst and a real estate agent. I do both part time. I'm on my dh's insurance and he is a police officer. Thank goodness his insurance is good.

Thanks for the welcome.
I'm not sure if I feel bloated but I do feel different. I can tell it most when I get up and walk.
As far as telling everyone we were trying to decide if we were going to wait to tell everyone until after the 1st doctor's report but since I had a progesterone test on cd22 that came back 33 we felt that we could start telling everyone. We told DH's parents last night and are calling mine tonight. They just left for their cabin and won't be back until the 6th of January. At first we were going to wait until they got back to tell them, but I just can't wait.
My first appointment is Jan 16th.

A question for everyone:
Do you have a LJ name that you keep up with people through. I am finding I do most of my 'personal' stuff over there and didn't know how and if you would be journaling more privately now that you are PG?
Stephanie
12-28-2005, 10:08 PM
No LJ name for me. I don't even have a journal here. I love reading other's journals, but I know that I would never keep up with one of my own. Plus, I would probably be so boring! :) I've only posted one picture of myself and no one else that I know is here, so I'm not that concerned about privacy. I also haven't gotten to know anyone well enough to visit their LJ and ask to be friended, so I've never even gone there. I can see the appeal though!

Cross post from LJ.
Not that I've had any problems but the doctor's office hasn't been of the upmost friendliest nature anytime I've talked to them. When I went in for my pap back in October, they were kinda rush rush and I didn't feel like it was very personable.
When I called to let them know I needed an appointment they were just okay. They said the prenatal comes first with the nurse and it's an one hour interview about your history and all. No checkup, no bloodwork, nothing. They will schedule the doctor's appointments and all along with bloodwork and and ultrasound for a week or two later (which will put me around 8 weeks).
I called around to some other places and they do about the same procedures but one place does all that stuff (history, pap, bloodwork, u/s) in one sitting -- which makes more sense to me. How can I explain to my emplorer (which I don't have all this time off anyway) that I need all these extra days. I made my first appointment for 3pm which means I will just have to leave school a little early but not take off any time.
I guess I'm just anxious but I just have this huge fear that something will go wrong within that time. Blah. Oh well. Guess I will need to stock up on some more PG tests so I can ease my mind!!

Another teacher here! So, a question for you teachers. Have you thought about your plan for next year, seeing as though we are due in Sept? I was wanting to switch districts and now I am a little concerned about starting at a new school two weeks before being due. I need to teach one more year before we feel comfortable (financially) with me staying home or working part time. I've told myself that I am not going to stress or worry about job-switching issues until after the first trimester, but it is still popping up in my mind.
After getting my blood drawn yesterday I ended up buying another HPT. The line came up instantly and was very, very dark, so it put my mind at ease a bit. The nurse is supposed to call me today with the results and if my numbers look good, I go in again tomorrow morning for more b/w. My doctor was still on vacation, but I am hoping he is there tomorrow. I am going to ask them to go ahead and set me up with an appt for the u/s.
Camdynlyn~It seems like every office does things differently. The good thing is that if you end up not feeling comfortable with the dr. or his/her staff, it is still early enough to find another doctor. I have the same concerns about work. Luckily, my doctor starts seeing patients at 7:00am so I can snag those appts. and still get to work by 7:45 since his office is less than 5 minutes from my school. Otherwise, I would have to go during conference period because they don't see patients after 3pm. Hopefully my team will help me out if I get into a bind or if my appt. runs too long.

I just got a call from my nurse. My quantitative beta HCG came back and it was 2797. She said my numbers were good and there was no need to come back tomorrow for additional b/w. Instead, I am going in on Tuesday, Jan. 3 for a sonogram. I am excited, but that number was higher than I expected. Since I don't know when I O'ed, I think that at most I am 20 dpo. Do you all know what the normal range is by dpo? I may go ask in the pregnancy forum.

Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy
http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/7300000/7303156.gif
I got all three books for 13.90! I thought that was pretty good. I just about picked up the Expectant Father
http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/4260000/4260175.gif
but hadn't read any reviews to see if it was worth it or not. My Hubby isn't the reading type like I am so I didn't want to waste my money (although it was only $3.50 but I just checked and the reviews were really good so I may swing by tomorrow.
So, that leads me to a QOTD: Any other really good recommendations?
Did anyone buy a pregnancy journal or one of the week by weeks? I am writing all my stuff down in a journal type book. When I was a nanny, the mom made me write down all the things that went on that day about the child to keep a log. She had about 3 volumes by the time we were done of her pregnancy (to keep for the baby) and the baby's life. It was a really neat thing.

I bought DH The Expectant Father yesterday. The online reviews I read were pretty positive about it. I briefly read the first several pages and it seemed ok. My DH is already proving to be a huge worrier, so I think this book will be good for him because it touches on difficulties but doesn't get real medical or technical. It seems pretty user friendly.
I got the Your Pregnancy Week by Week and I think it is the right book for me. I want to get The Girlfriend's Guide book, too, just for laughs.

UTChick Your numbers sound great!! I'm so glad you got a good report.
Books: I haven't actually bought any books. But, I read a LOT online throughout Pg#1, and so did DH. However, I have heard good things about the books you listed below.
I seriously need xmas break to be over. I am eating nothing but garbage, and it has to stop. Right now I'm dipping crackers into a container of ranch dip - does that qualify as healthy? I doubt it! Also, my Mom bought me the most amazing stainless steel teapot for xmas, and I am so truly in love with it that I am now consuming anywhere between 4-5 cups of tea each day! I read the 300mg is the max per day you should have, and that a cup of tea has approx. 60mg in it, so I'm kinda borderline. I don't drink coffee. I know this will stop when I go back to work next week, because I never drink anythink but water at school. I'll most likely have tea in the morning, and one cup in the evening. I really need to start eating better.
Saw a cute thing on a 'Pregnancy for Dummies' show on a few nights ago. They were talking about oud wives tales, and said that if someone hides a fork under one cushion of the couch, and a spoon under the other, and asks the preggo woman to choose a seat, then if she sits on the seat with the fork, it's a boy, and the spoon would be a girl. So my brother did it, and I sat on the fork!! Boy!! (I'm such a believer in superstitious/ old wife thingys :p ). I really do think it's a boy though. Funny, with PG#1, as soon as I POAS and got a positive, I told DH 'I'm pregnant and we are having a girl!' I just felt like I knew all along. And, I was right that time, we'll see what happens this time around.
Well, must go watch TV. I'm home bored, DD is in bed, and DH is jamming with his band. There is nothing on tv, so I have tofind something to do!!

Dawn: Try decaf tea. That's what I'm switching too. My doctor just said limit yourself to 2 sources of cafeine per day (this included chocolate). I know all docs say different but I have been trying to only drink 1 cup of tea per day max. I still have to have a little tea so that's why I'm switching to decaf.
***
Hubby went out and got The Expectant Father. He's at basketball practice and again, there is NOTHING on TV. I desperately DVRed some shows throughout the day just so I would have something to watch now. I'm off to the grocery store and then I will sit down to see what's on.
Oh yeah, I took an hour and a half nap today. I better still be able to sleep tonight.
Stephanie
12-29-2005, 06:23 PM
Kathy~I meant to answer your question earlier, but ended up taking a nap this afternoon. Like Summer, I'd better be able to sleep tonight! My plan for next year is to not go back. I had always planned on staying home and I'm glad that this worked out the way it did. It will be nice to be home two months before the baby. I will miss it like crazy though.
I got a couple of books the other day also. I have to say that I wasn't that impressed with A Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. I did not like her chapter on exercise and pregnancy where she basically lists eight reasons not to. I especially didn't appreciate number 3 (you will get fat anyway) and number 5 (you might endanger the pregnancy). The author says that growing the baby should be given all the attention and that you should try to do that without too much damage to yourself. Blah! I just felt like the author was talking down to me in certain areas, but some chapters were good. There were just some parts that really rubbed me the wrong way.
Summer~I bought a pregnancy diary, but I haven't written a thing in it. I'll probably write about my reaction to be pregnant and all that after my first appointment. I have my two baby books and I love reading about what my mom hoped for and what she thought of me after I was born. Some of it is so sweet and I thought that I would do the same. A couple of them were really cheesy though!
Well, I'm off to find something on tv. I can't wait for my husband to get home tomorrow simply because I'm so bored being home alone after 3 days!

I am hoping to go back to work after the new year (07). That would be m ideal situation. I'm not ready to give up teaching but not sure how this will work out. Our school (I LOVE IT) is going through so many changes that I am not sure how I will fit into it. I worked really hard to get at the school I am (less than 10 minutes away--- I was driving an hour) and I don't want to loose it yet. I love my team and I love the school. We'll see, though. I only get 6 weeks for a vaginal birth and 8 for c-section but I would really like to take a minimum of 12 weeks but want to stretch it out past December. Who really knows at this point.

Since my bloating has gone down somewhat, I thought I would take a photo. I still don't know exactly how far along I am, so I will have to come back after Tues. appt. to add how many weeks and days for this first shot.

Summer~See, I don't like my school. It is a very hard school to teach at and I am just burned out. Pretty much my entire team is looking for something else for next year. Plus, there are 4 schools within 10 minutes of my house and I would really like to get on at one of those since I am driving 30 min. (or more if there is a wreck) to my current school. So if I am looking to change schools and/or districts, I will probably just do 8 weeks of maternity leave. Do you get paid leave? We have to use whatever days we have built up and then we are on our own. Just curious as to how other states do it.
Camdynlyn
12-30-2005, 08:41 AM
Kathy: Very nice picture! I'm not reall sure about our maternity leave. I've had mixed comments. Some say you use up your days (which have have very few) and then you go on maternity where you get either paid or half pay. Anything after the 6 or 8 weeks (depending on the birth) is on your own. I guess I need to look into that! :o
**
I SLEPT HORRIBLY LAST NIGHT!! I went to bed at a decent hour with Hubby but I am having bloated/cramps/gas pains. They went on ALL night, too. I took Tums, laid in different positions and all that stuff. Nothing worked. That goodness I didn't have to work today.
I just now got up (10:30) but I needed all that sleep because I didn't get any at night. I hate that. I'm down another pound from my normal weight. This makes it 3 pounds total. I know they say you can loose weight in the beginning. When I was on a weight loss diet (by a doc) some years ago, I actually gave myself shots of the preg. hormone progesterone (I think). It helped you loose weight.
QOTD: You know they say you get clumsy and all that, are you experiencing any of those symptoms yet?
I'll go.... I can't type. I am a really good typest and now, I have to use the backspace uncontrollable because I can't type to save my life. I also can't spell. It's like the little 'omlette' is taking my brain powers!

I'm 5w2d today, and feel fine. My boobletts (AA) are already on their way to actual boobdom. I'm excited.
Summer's QOTD: No clumsiness, but definite fogginess. I've read that water helps, but there's only so much water I can drink. I'm usually a micro-managing type, and know exactly where everything is. I've been misplacing everything and forgetting all sorts of stuff. Very unlike me.

Judy~I am having the same symptoms. I will feel hungry but then I start to eat and after a few bites I feel really full. And yesterday was my first day of heartburn. I drank a glass of milk last night before I went to bed and I woke up feeling fine this morning.
QOTD#1 (Summer's): I can't type anymore either. Earlier, I was typing "more relaxed" and I went back to proofread and I had actually typed "for relaxed." I am going to have to proofread everything now.
QOTD#2 (Judy's): We did on Christmas Eve night after I had found out that morning. We had house guests for several nights and that was the only time we had the house to ourselves. Since our houseguests have left, we have been cleaning in the evenings and are just too tired. But I am definitely more in the mood for some reason.

No I don't feel more clumsy these days. I actually feel quite normal..well as normal as I'll ever be!!:p
We have not had sex since we found out I'm pg. We probably won't for a while either. I had some issues with my first pg and we weren't allowed to have relations so now we're both paranoid.
I think I'll feel better once I have my first ob appt. THat's on 1/6/05. I cannot wait.
I'm feeling very bloated and crampy. Oh and nauseous. Other than that I'm good.

This is cross posted from my LJ:
I had cramps so bad about an hour ago I wanted to cry. They were like AF type cramps with a little backache thrown in. It lasted about 3 minutes and stopped. The throbbing pain went away but the cramps didn't. I know this is supposed to be normal but it still worries me.

Summer-
I've had these sharp, sharp cramps a couple of times a day since about 15dpo-- some of them have lasted almost a minute (or so it seems) but not as long as three minutes. They *hurt* a lot and I almost have to sit down, but then they pass. They scare me, too! I know things are just growing and expanding down there, but it's hard to believe that pain is good.
As for nookie, we haven't changed our normal ways. In fact, we may actually be having more nookie than usual-- DH will be away from home for 24 days in January and so I think we're both thinking about that. I am not excited about it at all... esp. since it means he won't be here for my first two appointments. I'm actually considering waiting until he gets back for the first serious midwife appointment.

Just to let you ladies know...I'm lurking like crazy in here not because I'm pregnant, or could be, but because I'm following Summer. We grew up together and its so amazing to have such a dear friend starting a new chapter in her life. She is the first of the group who's starting a family so you know I'll be spoiling the mess out of baby s.
Just wanted to give you ladies the heads up so you didn't think I was crazy or stalking anyone. :p I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable so if you want to know anything about me, feel free to ask!:D
A H&H 9 months to you all!

Happy New Year's everyone!
We're also having friends over tonight. I'm going to be having lots of mixed drinks (non-alcoholic of course). I found recipes for virgin marguaritas, daquaries, creamsicles, and many others! I bought the ingredients today, and I'm pretty excited to try out my 'cocktails' tonight!
4W6D today, and seriously cramping. I know it's normal, like many of you, but it's kinda freaking me out!! On a happier note, my BBs are actually growing! (seriously small -A cup)
Well, must be off - cooking chili for tonight.

Speaking of BBs, I haven't noticed a difference in mine but I am sure by the time everything's said and done mine will be GIGANTIC! I'm a DD-DDD now so we'll have to see what they turn out to be.
Stomach's odd feeling today. Not really sure what it feels like but just odd. Sleep was horrible again last night... getting really old fast.

My bf irl started wearing maternity pants when she was 8 weeks. This is her 3rd pg. I'm sure I'll be the same way.

Hi, ladies! I hope everyone finds this new thread.
Many of you may already know about these two magazines, but I wanted to let everyone know that there are two great baby magazines that offer completely FREE SUBSCRIPTIONS. There's no catch. I've been getting them for a while now.
Here are the links in case you're interested: American Baby (http://www.americanbaby.com) & Baby Talk (http://www.parenting.com/parenting/babytalk/channel)
I registered for those today as well as the State Farm book-- and then had immediate feelings of "oh my god I've jinxed myself". I hope I didn't!!
My boobies are growing, too!

Whoa! I missed a lot today. On the bbs - mine seem a little fuller. I'm a 34B and it seems like I am overflowing a couple of my demi bras and filling out my full coverage bras a lot more. DH commented on that last night. I don't feel good today. Very tired and my tummy just doesn't feel good. Of course it could be due to all the junk I ate last night when my goddaughters spent the night. Plus the 5 year-old was scared to sleep in the guest bed, so I ended up sleeping half the night with the girls. Not much quality sleep there.
We are going to a New Year's dinner and party at a friend's house. The hosts are really good friends of ours and they know I am pg but they have promised to keep our secret. I am taking diet Sprite and a half bottle of Bacardi Limon. I am going to pretend to drink that, but really just stick to the diet Sprite. Hopefully no one will notice that the Bacardi bottle isn't emptying. :p

I'm sorry that some of you aren't feeling well today. I keep hoping that I won't develop any morning sickness! I don't feel any different and I wish that I had a growing chest! I can't complain because I am fairly thin and being a 34B, I am pretty proportional. I still want some though! :)
I'm not doing anything tonight and I'm so glad. It has been raining here all day and the last thing that I would want to do is go out. We are going to watch a movie, eat chili, and just hang out. I hope that everyone has fun with their plans for the night!

Happy New Years, everyone!
We went to a party last night, and our strategy worked really well-- DH downed a beer and left the empty on a counter for me. I nonchalantly picked it up and went to the bathroom, where I filled it up with water.
I fulfilled part of my H2O requirements and didn't blow my cover. :)
But then I woke up this morning feeling like I did do a bit of drinking. I popped an Altoid ginger flavored candy in my mouth and felt almost immediately better. I hope it doesn't get any worse than that!

I woke up feeling hung over, too! My plan didn't work out too well though. We didn't have any diet Sprite at home so on the way we stopped at a convenient store and all they had was diet 7up with Splenda. I think maybe it was the Splenda that made me feel nauseous. So I just stuck to water. Luckily there were a couple of other people who weren't drinking so I wasn't the only one. I just said I wasn't in the mood to drink after the first two. No one seemed suspicious.
But I felt like I had been hit by a truck this morning. My head hurt and I was pretty queasy. I ate a few crackers and drank some water and felt better. I don't really feel sick now, but I don't feel good either. It is hard to explain.
We are being lazy today. Both of us are still in our pjs. It is kind of nice. :)
Stephanie
01-01-2006, 03:00 PM
UTChick~I am one who really doesn't care for Splenda. My sister swears that she can't tell a difference, but I just can't stomach it. I was so disappointed one day at the grocery store when they only had Diet Coke with Splenda. Yuck!
I'm glad to hear that others are having a lazy day also. I've been laying around most of the day watching tv. I watched True Hollywood Story and now I'm on a Mythbusters marathon. My husband had to work today, but he'll be home tomorrow. I'm enjoying my day of just hanging out with the animals and I feel a nap coming on in about an hour or so. :) I don't know how I will adjust to going back to work next week after being on vacation for 5 weeks!

I woke up feeling hung over too!! Luckily, everyone knew that was over here and so I played bartender and drank tons and tons of water while playing asshole! :) I think I drank more than I ever have at one time which was good. I also munched all night.
I slept incredibly well (probably because it was 3:30am and anyone can be knocked out at that hour) and just took another nap. I did wake up feeling sick to my stomach with the worst stomachache but I popped a mint and was good to go. Don't know where I heard to do that but it helped.

DH and I hosted a New Year's Eve party last night. We had more people than we expected! As usual I played bartender all night. It was weird not being able to "sample" the daiquiries before pouring them! I also made jello shots, margaritas and apple martinis...my mouth was watering but I didn't drink one drop. Today I had some twinges in my stomach and on the sides of my stomach...I was a little worried at first, but now I believe it is just gas because whenever I "relieve myself" the twinges go away. Anybody else experience this? I haven't had any morning sickness...I kinda wish I did because it would let me know that SOMETHING is happening! Know what I mean? I can't help but have some feelings of anxiety and worry about the bloodwork that I will have done on Tuesday. In my head I keep harping on those Beta HCG levels! All of my pregnant friends keep telling me to stop worrying, but that is hard to do!

Morning sickness is here.... she hit hard this morning, very hard. My alarm rang and as soon as I moved waves of nausea hit me. I had to brace myself against the walls of my shower and during the 43 mile trek to work I had to keep the window of my truck down. Once I got into work I flew to the bathroom where my pregnancy made itself known. I am also very sensitive to smells as of this morning. My deodorant scent made me sick and I couldn't go near my perfume. Heck even the smell of Downy on my sweater is getting to me. My last pregnancy, ms didn't hit until week 7-8.
We've told all of our friends and family already. We made the announcement on Xmas Eve. We had our DS wear a shirt that says "I'm the big brother". The family flipped out.

dotsie So sorry that m/s has hit you. Hope it goes away soon.
Welcome to Crystal_Orchid & Crystal_Orchid! :)
5 weeks today! No m/s yet, but I've felt a little queasy a few times - but I think it's mostly when I'm hungry. I'm finding I have to eat every two hours or more now. I still crampy, but not as bad as before. Still bloated, and always feel like I will literally explode after I eat.
Telling people - We've told everyone we're close to - family and friends. I don't want to let anyone at work know yet, and definately don't want the students to find out until I'm visibly preggo. I find this pregnancy annoucement very different - people are happy for us, but I'm also finding that a lot of people (one of my sisters, my brother's fiance, and my friends) are really jealous! Here are a few examples of reactions:
-After telling my family on xmas eve, and getting the obligatory hug from my sis, right before we were leaving, she calls me into the bedroom, starts crying and says "It's not that I'm not happy for you, it's just that it's hard for me because my life sucks so bad!" I really didn't know what to say.
-When we told my brother and his fiance, she literally didn't say a word. She later told us that she cried for an hour when we left!
-My friend (both of which are engaged, but not getting married until the summer of 2007) just actually keep telling me. "I wish it was my turn to have a baby", and they really make me feel weird.
I have to say, these reactions are not what I expected!
Back to work tomorrow. I have no planning done for this week. We'll see how it goes!

Oh no, Dotsie! I'm sorry you feel so yucky today.
We told our families and most of our close friends. DH has a problem keeping secrets. ;) I was worried that too many people were finding out, but I spoke with a friend of mine who had a m/c at 11 weeks and she said it helped that her friends and family already knew because they were a great source of support during that time. She is now 6 months pg with her second child.
I go back to work tomorrow and I am going to tell the my partner teacher and the teacher next door so that they can watch my class if m/s hits. I can trust them not to tell. Otherwise, I am not telling at anyone at work.

Slept wonderfully last night! :D YAY!! No queesy feeling this morning! YAY!! :D So far, my 5w is going well!!
Well, my mom told me last night that my dad blabbed to everyone at their New Year's party. He was just so excited... which is odd as my mom is the one I pinned to tell strangers. She has told some of our close friends of the family, which is fine. BUT-- Dad let the cat out of the bag to neighbors and some strangers at the party so I guess the secrets out! All my close friends know, which makes it easy on me. I figured I would rather have their support if something bad happened (God forbid) instead of having to explain myself about why I was upset.
About school: only 1 teacher knows right now and more than likely, I will let my team (there's 10 of us including the 3 assistants) know because we are so close knit. Other than that, I'm not telling administration until I either start to show or around April. We'll see. OUr school's in a lot of transition so I do not want to open my mouth before I should, you know?
QOTD #1: Anyone started thinking about names??
We have a slew of names we have on a list. Coincidentally, when we got PG, I have no desire to really think of names right now. I guess I'm to focused on staying PG. I will more than likely only let my LJ people know the name we have chosen when the time comes and I am thinking of keeping it a secret from family, too. I need some excitement... which leads me to my other question:
QOTD #2:: Will you find out the sex and will you disclose baby names to people?
Again, we are still up in the air on this one. I KNOW we will find out the sex and tell people but I think the name needs to be a secret.
roadrunner
01-02-2006, 10:46 AM
QOTD 1 For a boy we have always said Thomas. However, my daughter keeps saying 'Tommy' and others have said ...hmmm. Tom is nice. I'm very against shortening names, so I think we will reconsider. DH is constantly searching boy names online now. Seriously, we're convinced this is a boy, we're gonna be in for a fright if it's another girl!
QOTD 2 The hospital policy in my town is against revealing the sex of the baby. So, no, we won't find out. We did find out with #1, becuase the old U/S tech (75 years old!!) did an U/S for us, and he is very old school, and does not care about policy! But, I don't think he works anymore. Plus, I'd kinda like a bit of excitement this time. It was very anti-climactic with Claire was born, and the intern who delivered her was all excited telling us it was a girl, but we already knew.

Dawny- I'm sorry you got those reactions. We're holding off telling SIL. She just had her second boy in Sept and she keeps telling everyone in the family that she wants to be the one to have the first girl of the family. There are already 5 boys. So i'm sure she is going to be pissed we're pregnant and could potentially have a girl- real mature- right?
Names- We have no idea for a boy- tossing names around though. We like Jaden and Jacob.
For a girl her name will be Ashlyn Michelle for sure.

Good morning!
Dotsie~I'm sorry that the day started out so rough for you. I'm absolutely dreading the morning sickness that might be to come. I always hear people say that the 6-8 week mark was when it starts. I hope that you feel better soon!
Dawny~I can understand jealousy and everything. It took me almost two years to get pregnant and believe me, it seemed like everyone but me got pregnant in that time. BUT, give me a break! I can't believe that people reacted that way. It is really not fair to you to make you so uncomfortable about something so wonderful.
I go back to work next Tuesday and I am trying to make myself get down to the school to get some work done. I teach a transition fourth grade class (all language learners, but only one is in the beginning stages) and there has to be a plan. There is no winging it this year!
QOTD#1~We started discussing names the other day. We have a girl's name picked out because we both agreed on it and really like it. We just kind of said "Okay, girl's name decided. Let's move on and figure out a middle name!" We both loved the name Ella, but I have this fear of it becoming really popular. I like the nickname Elle, especially since both don't sound too cute as an adult name. I would just die if Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes or someone ends up naming their kid Ella before I could! Is that bad?:) I just keep telling myself that as long as we like it, it doesn't matter.
QOTD#2~Okay, obviously I'll be disclosing names! We will find out the sex if we can. We were joking the other night that we would probably go in for the ultrasound only to find that the legs are tightly crossed with a middle finger in the air! I would want to know so bad that I almost would expect that they wouldn't be able to tell. It would be my kind of torture because we will have our house finished in March and I am so excited to do a nursery!
Hope that you are all enjoying the day. It is still rainy here, so of course I will probably use that as an excuse to not travel the 5 miles to school to do some work! :)

goldengbridge - Yup, people can be really immature. I con't believe that you have to hold your good news back, because it might offend SIL!!
Stephanie - I agree, lots of people may experience jealousy, and I totally understand and respect it when they have some foundation for it (like yourself, with your TTC difficulties). Funny though, my FSIL, and both friends are all engaged, and they are choosing to all wait until summer 2007 to get married, against their FH's wishes. It's not like they're TTC or anything. I mean, they could get married sooner if they really wanted to! As for my sister - well, she has a four year old son, who was very unplanned and is very unwanted. Her life has basically been on a downward spiral since she was 18 (she's 28 now). So, really, her life does suck, but that's her fault, and her problem - not mine.
camdynlyn - cute pictures!! I think you might inspire me to post mine, after I take them this week.
Is anyone else starving all of the time? I can't get enought to eat. I just snet DH to the store - I want pasta alfredo and garlic bread tonight!! Must go - Claire wants to play pizza party.:D

Camdynlyn - Yes I am the one that makes the necklaces. :)
Dawny - I can't believe that your family and friends reacted like that!! Especially the sister and the FSIL who said she cried after you told her. What did she cry for??? She's not even married to your brother yet!!! Here time will come AFTER the wedding!!! But I can understand being "jealous" if you have been trying for a long time. It seems like ALL of my friends got pregnant or were already pregnant when I was trying. I have 3 REALLY close friends and a cousin that are pregnant right now...not to mention 14 other associates that I know who are pregnant. But I let them know how happy I am for them, and I have not acted jealous the whole time (at least I don't think so). Anyway...congrats to you. And BTW, Claire is the name that DH and I have picked out if we have a girl ! :) What is your daughter's middle name?
We have decided on "Claire Simone" for a girl. But we are not sure of the full boy name. I think we've narrowed the middle name down to "Anderson"...which is DH's dad's middle name.
Still no M/S !!

Hey ladies, still here lurking along. I have felt pretty naseous these past couple of days, but still have yet to throw up. My heartburn hasn't been as bad lately, which is really nice.
QOTD 1~ Yes, my DH and I *think* we have boy and girl names picked out. We'll see as we get closer, but so far, we think we know what we will name the baby
QOTD 2~ As of right now, my DH & I want to find out the sex of the baby. We aren't sure yet though whether we will let people know the names we picked out.
Hope all you ladies are doing great. ******sticky vibes******* to all of us!

I'm on top of the world today! I've not had any symptoms at all and feel great! I had tomato soup and a sandwich about an hour ago and Hubby is on his way home on this rainy day! It's been great. I would really like to go see a movie so maybe I can talk him into that.

QOTD #1~ We haven't seriously talked names yet. Just here and there. DH doesn't really care for the ones I like, but can't offer up any suggestions either.
QOTD#2~ *sigh* We had agreed a year ago that we were going to wait and be surprised. Now all of the sudden DH has to find out the gender. At least we have a few months for me to talk him back into waiting. ;)
Summer~Glad you are feeling well today.
Judy~I'm in the same boat. Naseous but haven't thrown up. Hope you start to feel better.
craftgenius~I love the name Claire!
Dawny~It's weird. There have been a couple of days when I couldn't eat enough but then I have other days (like today) when I don't want anything at all. I was starving all day on Friday and ate like a pig!

Dawny: The mixed reaction took me back to announcing our engagment. My MOH internalized it and started feeling bad for herself. All I could do was to put my happiness aside for a minute and be there for her.
QOTD #1: We haven't thought about names. I'm still a little scared that I might miscarriage. I had one miscarriage 2 years ago at 7 weeks. So right now, I'm doing everything I know to make sure I take care of myself.
QOTD #2: DH does not want to know the sex of the baby, but I want to since this will be our first baby and it will be easier to plan. We still have a few more weeks to go before we can find out, so I'll keep working on him.

I was starving on Friday. But over the weekend I wasn't hungry at all. Today all I have eaten is some yogart, a banana and a couple of chicken drummettes...and it's 2:49PM! That's very unlike me! We'll see once I go back to work...I usually get really hungry at work. I think I'm about to eat a salad...I need some veggies in my body!
BTW - I definitely want to know the sex of the baby. Some time back DH said that he wouldn't want to know...we'll see what he says now!

Been nauseous the past few days but woke up today feeling great. Still have a little bit of gas, but I haven't eaten today yet so it might increaes throughout the day. Dawny, yes I feel hungry all the time. I wonder if my pregnancy symptoms are due to the baby or just me changing my habits. I don't know if it is me that just feel hungry or because of the baby. The baby right now is a size of a raspberry and can't really need that much nutrition. I started to also drink milk. I haven't drank milk in like 10 years, so I'm not sure if it's the baby or just that I figure I should be drinking milk for the baby. You know what I mean?
I'm a big sandwich and salad with deli meat eater. Especially for lunch. It is really hard for me to find healthy alternatives. Any suggestions? I like food that does not require any oil to cook (i.e. sandwiches and salad)

Past September Mommies: I think it is so neat that you keep dropping by to wish us luck and happiness! I think about how last January doesn't seem that long ago and I know the next 8 months are just going to fly by. I'm still praying that everything is okay, but I have a positive attitude.
Sumer- Cute belly pic! Looks like your bloating has subsided a bit? Mine has, except for when I eat a lot. And Dawny, I am so eating like a truck driver right now! Some days are better than others, but usu. it's every two hours, and comes on so suddenly I almost change personalities. Poor, poor DH. ;)
Crystal-Orchid, I've really been craving a sandwich too-- we always want what we can't have, yes? I've managed to satisfy that craving with soup lately-- esp. if you make it yourself, it is really healthy, filling, and easy to digest which is good for your raspberry. :)
nauseau- I feel badly for those of you already suffering from m/s. I have been a teensy bit queesy upon waking up a couple of days, but nothing to write home about. And my boobies have stopped hurting as intensely-- in fact, I feel largely symptom-free. I kinda wish I didn't!
Telling folks... The bad reception stories have me a bit nervous! Right now, other than you internet folks, the only people who know are me, DH, my sister, and, well, presumably the apple seed in my belly. It's quite a secret to carry around, but we really don't want to tell anyone quite yet. We'll be moving across the country in June, and aren't ready for the onslaught of practical questions that our practical-minded family and friends will throw our way. Plus, it's kind of cozy, this small "circle of trust."
This is getting to be a long post, but I'm plugging ahead!
QOTD#1: Names-- Thinking of names has kept me up at night for years. DH is the one who has insisted there's not point thinking about them til we know we're going to need one, and until my BFP would only suggest "Bartholomeu" and "Gertrude" when asked.  Now he's much more involved. At least one of the names (fi
