Morning ladies! Not much going on here... (oops, forgot again... 8w6d)

Numberlady sorry to hear about the spotting. I'm sure everything is fine! I have some cramping, too, but like MSH said, there's lots going on down there! Good luck at the doctors.

Dotsie let us know how your appt goes. We have too many mamas to not have at least one set of twins (as long as its not me!)

Twink your too funny! I have been trying to brave the baby section at Target, but can't seem to get my feet moving in that direction! Your braver than I am. Thanks for posting some of your dr. questions. My appt is next week and I haven't thought of anything!

QOTD water... I am trying to drink as much as possible (especially since I haven't given up my 1 cup of a.m. coffee!) I think I'm doing alright.

Maternity clothes boy, I have no idea about this one. I did end up buying a pair of jeans in a bigger size over the weekend. Wonder how long they wil last...

Nothing to report. Must say, though, after reading this thread all I can think about is having a filet o fish from McDonalds and butter pecan ice cream... thanks ladies... :)

Thinking good thoughts for Numberslady!

RE: Materity clothing - The last time I had a baby (12 YEARS AGO! OMG!) all the materity stuff was SOO ugly! Im thrilled to see so many companys carrying materinty clothing now! Tho I do think its wierd that everywhere you look theres gals that are preggers, heck even Targets new TV spot! Is this a conspiracy? did the Govt put somthing in the water to make us populate our country? (JK of course! LOL!) but seriousely its wierd to be part of a baby boom, and I really think we are just that!

Good luck on your appointments today ladies!

Maternity clothes - I'll probably buy me a few things next week. Currently I only have one item of maternity clothes (a pair of jeans from Old Navy). I saw this commercial on TV last night advertising maternity clothes from Target.

Water - I am SO BAD in this area! I really need to do better! I'm lucky if I get 20 ounces a day down!!!

How am I feeling - Ya'll...this may be TMI...but I am constipated!! Is there anything I can take???

8w3d (question: is there a 0d? or is every Monday for me 1d?)

MSH: I totally see a bump!!!!

Craftgenius: try Colace or a similar stool softener. Do NOT take a laxative.

QOTD H2O: I drink at least a liter, and that's just at work!

QOTD Maternity Clothes: I have poked around at Target & Kohl's (which is having a 2 for 1 sale right now btw!!) and was less than impressed. The stuff on clearance at Target was a steal, but there wasn't a lot that I'd see myself wearing. I may just end up buying cheap plus sized items (I'm plus sized to begin with anyway).

I got to have my beloved mint chocolate chip ice cream last night. It's Edy's Grand Light Smooth & Creamy (Dreyer's to those west of the Mississippi). It was excellent. :D

You and me both :( I use it as an excute to get some of my fruits in. Most dries fruits (apricots, prunes etc.) will help the issue. I haven't bothered to check if there are any mads I could take yet.

Aletheia Just wait a few weeks from now and that belly will start to get the beachball shape.

--------------------

Oh I forgot to mention, the OB did my weigh in at my appointment and get this ... I haven't gained a pound since HS! Last time I stepped on a scale was right before my wedding in 2003. I surely hope to gain some before my next appointment or I am sure it will become an issue.

Constipation - For DD, I used to eat the Metamucil fiber crackers (killed 2 birds w/ one stone...I needed snack foods and it helped in that area!) My Dr. also gave me samples of Metamucil caplets. I think most of the fiber supplements are OK (BeneFiber, Metamucil, etc.) Not sure about actual laxatives / stool softeners.

You can also drink 100% apple juice. It should have the same kind of effect.

I was having this problem too... what seems to be working are SMOOTHIES!!! They taste great, have lots of vitamins, and lots of fiber (yeah!)

I've been buying frozen berries at Trader Joes (its a blend of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries)... Throw some of these in a blender with a couple of big heaps of low-fat vanilla yogurt, a splash of milk (either soy or skim), and I've been throwing in about a Tbls of wheatgerm (for the extra whamo). Sometimes I'll throw in a banana or some honey.

They taste great and thank goodness they are effective! I am much more comfy this week (smoothie every day after work) than last week.

Man Di, you keep making me crave ice cream!!!

Try triscuits. I was having the same problem, but I added 6 triscuits as a mid-morning snack and it works wonders!

Aww, thanks for making me feel better ladies.

I love my midwife but man she made me feel so guilty the last time at my appointment because I had gained 2 pounds. She said you are only supposed to gain 0-3 pounds in the 1st trimester. I am just hoping I don't gain more than a pound at my appointment in 2 weeks

Hey ladies! All of your good luck wishes paid off! I went to my appt today and when I told them about the spotting and cramping they did an ultrasound. We got to see the baby's heartbeat and they told me that everything looked fine. DH was there and got to see it too, so I think it made it more real for both of us. They moved my due date to September 27.

yay numberlady!!!
We had our u/s today. It's only one baby!!!:D He/she was moving around like crazy. It made me feel so good to see that little baby moving and grooving. I'm measuring just where I should be.
I seem to be feeling really decent today. We went to an early dinner to Olive Garden. I got sick when I got home but it was no where near what is was even just a day or two ago. I'm hoping this is the turning point.
Weight gain ~ don't feel bad. Believe me, we'll all singing different tunes in about 8 weeks:)

Helllo ladies. Its good to know that everyone seems to be finding the remedies that are relieving m/s.

Indigestion is really trying to get the best of me. All I want to do is curl up in my big fuzzy robe w/ my big fluffy pillow. BUT, so much to do in so little time and I have many people depending on me for so many things.

My taste buds are out of whack. Everything has an awful after taste.
(Ending pity party:rolleyes: )

I had my appt on 2/7 for my 8wk ultrasound. (I cant stand when everyone is so quiet in the room and the tech is so expressionless) I could not see the screen at first but DH would dart his eyes to me then to the screen and back and forth. I started to sweat and get very uncomfortable then finally my OB chimed in and said to the tech "everything looks good here" and turned the screen toward me. I was so relieved to see my little Angel. I guess I got worried because I distinctly remember hearing the HB with DS at the first u/s. Oh well.

Ocgatita: No my dear, you are not the only one who has gained. Since my first appt 1/16 I have gained 3lbs.
Everything looked good though. They moved my EDD up two days.
Oh forgot to mention that babys HB was 171bpm

Threadmistresses: EDD 9/16 ; Next Appt: 3/7.

I had my first OB appt yesterday and an ultrasound. Last week, my ultrasound measured 5w which was worrisome but yesterday's measured right on target. Baby was 9.1mm and had quite the beautiful beating heart.I'm due 9.28.06. I was at the tail end of the December 04 Mommies group, too, and it sucked being the last one. :)

I had a c-section the first time around and had The Best Recovery Ever so I'm very tempted to just go with the repeat c, but I would like to try to birth naturally. My OB said that she'll permit a VBAC if my body cooperates (I never dropped or dialated last time) but only at a high-risk hospital. So, lots of thinking and deciding to do but I'm not going to worry about it now.

I still feel like crap, but I'm taking Zofran now so I'm managing to keep water and soup down. Also, I have pinkeye and a yeast infection which really blows since there's really nothing I can do to treat the yeast that's safe for pregnancy. Lots of acidophillus.

~

Even though we saw the heartbeat, I'm still super paranoid and hyperaware of every twinge and cramp. I think I was well into my second trimester with Rachel before I stopped being so concerned.

Speaking of Rachel, are any other second-time moms feeling rather neglectful of their kiddo? My poor kid spent the majority of Tuesday playing around me while I laid on the living floor for two hours feeling miserable. Thank GOD my husband is totally stepping up and doing just about EVERYTHING when it comes to housekeeping and child tending. =D

MSH - Yes I am still having the spotting and cramping and TMI ahead...it has turned from brown to reddish. So, I am still worried even though we saw everything. I guess I will see how things progress through the weekend. They didn't do any other tests because I was actually just there for my nurse (they call it orientation) visit. I don't see the Dr. until 2/23. By the way, I do see a bump! Very exciting, I'm about a week behind you, so maybe mine will be coming soon too!
Dotsie - Congrats on the ultrasound and one baby!
deliciousjones - I'm in the tail just like you:p Good to know other momma's are as paranoid like me. I didn't think I would be this way, worrying about every little thing going on down there, but here I am an absolute mess thinking that every little thing means the end of this pregnancy. Hopefully I will get better as I begin to have some other symptoms...like a bump!

delicousjones ~ I feel horrible and am wracked with guilt. My poor ds just plays by himself while I'm either lying on the couch or getting sick in the powder room. You know it's bad when your 2 1/2 y/o comes to you, kisses you on the forehead and tells you that he hopes your tummy feels better. I keep telling him that in a few weeks he'll have his mommy back!!
aletheia ~ I think it's God's way of getting you ready to be a parent.;) I"ve found that since I had my DS I no longer sleep sound.

Yesterday was not a good day. A headache began around noon and by the time I got home from work I was feeling very ill. I normally have a good appetite, but not last night. Every time I went to the fridge to look for something, I felt ill. So I ended up eating saltines and popsicles for dinner. Here's hoping today is better.

Gaining Weight I feel like I have gained a lot of weight, but I won't be sure until my appointment this afternoon. Speaking of which - I am getting so excited for the u/s to see baby moving and grooving. I think it will make the whole pg thing more real for DH and I. :D

QOTD - Cord Blood I received a phone call last night from a place called the cord blood registry. I was sick so I didn't listen to their whole blurb, but I was wondering what you ladies know about this cord blood thing and if anyone has done it? I guess I am pretty clueless as to what it is all about, so any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Twink - My doctor gave me a pamphlet about cord blood which I have not looked at yet. I'm thinking that we will probably do it.

Another weekend!! WOO-HOO! DH and I are FINALLY going to tell his kids about the baby this weekend. I'm sort of nervous about how they will react. They are 18 and 14 years old and probably think that we will expect them to baby sit...which I don't because I don't think that it is their responsibility to baby sit. So I don't intend to FORCE them to baby sit all the time. Maybe occasionally but not all the time.

We had our sonogram yesterday and it was great!

http://www.easy-orlando.com/tonyandgiovanna/baby/8wsonogram2.jpg

The heartbeat was 162 beats per minute. We couldn't hear it, but we could see it fluttering on the screen. It was so cool! They gave me a LMP due date of 9/24, but I am stickign with my ovulation due date of 9/23. We also met with our midwife that afternoon. I have gone to her before for gyno exams and I absolutely love her. I know I'll be in good hands.

This thread just keeps moving faster and faster, I try to check in everyday but I can't always post (from work is just a headache… people don’t know I am pg yet and I really don’t want them to see me on pg websites).

Congrats on all the awesome u/s! Good to see all our little ones are growing on schedule :o

Not much going on here, I think I have put on like 1.5lbs since November, not sure if is the pregnancy or just the junk I ate during Christmas, but I am not too worried. I am going to go by my drs. weigh in, that way I can monitor how much I am putting on per trimester. Hopefully I wont put anymore on the next two weeks, but again if is healthy weigh does not concern me much.

I have been pretty good at eating healthy, and so far no cravings for me. The one thing I have notice though is that I used to love sweets and for some reason they do not look as appealing to me anymore.

Maternity clothes I am still fitting comfortably on my regular clothes, so I am not sure when I will start buying maternity stuff.. oh wait I already bought some stuff on the Old Navy sale :D . I could not resist the temptation, cant wait to get it… and can't wait til the weather gets warmer because there is no way in hell I can wear any of what I got with this freezing weather we are having lately .

I am def. in the nervous mom catagory, im older, my last child prior was a premmie and they dont know why, so I am very uncomfortable right now. I hope after I see the NP next week that I feel better! I just want everything to be okay, we really want this baby and im scared. Thursday when I have my appt they will do a full physical, a US and a blood and urine tests... until they tell me its all good, I am not sleeping very well. I am doing everything I am supposed to, I am eating well, taking my vitamins, napping after work when tired, drinking plenty of water, doing my kegels, and yesterday I got a new yoga for preggers ladys, as I am afraid to do my regular routine. I am still overweight, as I was doing my best to change that prior to my positive test, so thats a concern too, what if I am too heavy? I know, I know, just relax until I get into see the pros. BUT IM GOING CRAZY! LOL! Its taking forever for next week to get here! Dale broke down and told his sister that we are expecting yesterday, she is thrilled! She has two children from later in life pregnancys so he felt comfortable talking to her as she understands the first trimester rule. I think he is going to properly propose on Valentines day, he called and asked his parents for his grandmothers ring, and he is being silly and secretive, the only thing he will tell me is that we have a date on tuesday (Valentines) and that I will have to be late to work on Wednesday, which means we are heading to the mountains for the date! It would make sense as he to why the sudden urge to talk to his older sister too... It feels so funny to be doing all this stuff at 38 and 40 years old! But he is adament about "doing it the right way" All I know is I want him to hurry up so I can call and talk to my mommy and sister! heeeheee, its killling me when I talk to them (mom almost every day) and not tell them whats going on!

Wow DallasLady your u/s looks like a little person. I can definately see him/her in there. Mine didn't look like any shape but a little blob. I am a few days behind you, or maybe it was just the positioning.
TwinkI'm clueless about the cord blood thing too, I feel like I should know what it is about. Maybe I will do some research this weekend about it.
Aletheia I have been having major problems sleeping. I wake up at 5, but don't need to wake up until about 7. I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. I hate it. Last night though, I slept like a log.

Twink and others... there are a few threads devoted to this topic in parenting that you should look at. That's where I got this article from the Boston Globe...

PEDIATRIC PERSPECTIVE
Cord-blood banking only makes sense if it's a shared effort
By Dr. Darshak Sanghavi | February 1, 2005

How much would you pay to guard your newborn against the future risk of fatal cancer, heart disease, immune problems, and many other serious diseases?

Companies such as Cord Blood Registry, Boston-based Viacord, and about 20 others are betting that anxiety about these illnesses will induce parents to fork over about $1,500 plus a $100 annual fee to store a healthy newborn's umbilical-cord blood as ''insurance."

Painlessly harvested during childbirth from the mother's placenta (which is usually thrown away), cord blood can be frozen for storage, and under certain conditions, used years later for a bone-marrow transplant to cure some cancers and genetic problems.

Cord Blood Registry stated in September that it had 250,000 stored units, and reported that business doubled last year. Some obstetrician colleagues of mine estimate that one in five patients pay to bank cord blood.

Yet the American Academy of Pediatrics states ''private storage of cord blood as 'biological insurance' is unwise," and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states parents shouldn't feel they must ''invest considerable sums in such a highly speculative venture."

It's quite unlikely a family would ever use privately banked cord blood. Moreover, private storage undermines what could be a far more useful public system that saves lives.

The presumed advantage is that cord blood would be an exact match for the child or family member in need, and so won't be rejected if used someday for a transplant. But many companies exaggerate the likelihood that a family will need privately stored cord blood. For example, Viacord's website states ''the lifetime odds of being diagnosed with a disease treatable by cord-blood stem cells is one in 27" and that future research may increase the risk to ''one in two." These figures sound impressive, but are misleading.

Cord-blood donors who develop genetic problems or cancers like leukemia that fail to respond to chemotherapy can't use their own cord blood because it contains the same genes that caused the disease in the first place. Almost always, these patients need bone marrow donated by someone with different genes. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the odds of using cord blood for a self-transplant may be as low as one in 200,000.

Some parents bank a child's cord blood to benefit siblings. But Dr. Joanne Kurtzberg, a pioneer in cord-blood transplantation, told the New England Journal of Medicine last fall that fewer than 1,000 children a year would need a sibling's cord blood. Since about 4 million children are born yearly, the chance of needing cord blood from a sibling is roughly one in 4,000. The risk is probably lower in families with no history of genetic syndromes or cancer. Additionally, a child's cord blood has only a one-in-four chance of being an exact match for a brother or sister.

Simply saving cord blood doesn't guarantee it's usable, and the quality of private banks may vary. Though cord-blood banks must register with the Food and Drug Administration, the federal government does not regulate collection and storage procedures. According to Kurtzberg, half of the cord-blood specimens she has considered for transplantation have been unusable.

Some private banks imply that cord blood contains many ''stem cells" that can heal organs like the brain and pancreas someday, thus curing Parkinson's disease, diabetes, and other illnesses. But cord blood isn't rich in the specific kinds of stem cells that might heal these organs, so this use is theoretical at best. Also, some stem cells can be obtained later from children and adults, so storing cord blood isn't the only chance to get them.

In the end, families with a history of cancers like leukemia or certain genetic diseases (like sickle-cell anemia or Hurler's syndrome) that improve with bone-marrow transplants could consider privately banking cord blood with a reputable company, since there is a reasonable chance that a child's cord blood could be used by another member of the family.

But the value of private cord-blood banking for healthy families doesn't seem to justify the costs, though for the well-off, it's at least a harmless way to satisfy medical anxiety, unlike, say, whole-body CT scanning with its radiation exposure and wild-goose-chase findings.

What makes more sense is having a public cord-blood bank that could connect donors to people in need. Today, about a quarter of patients can't find a match when they need a bone-marrow transplant, though about 5 million people are registered bone-marrow donors. (The problem is worse for minorities, because they are underrepresented in the donor pool.) If Americans saved and shared cord blood from all 4 million newborns each year, thousands of lives might be saved.

Consider how regular blood banks work. People donate for altruistic reasons and aren't charged to give. Blood is not treated as a commercial commodity but a publicly managed resource distributed to anyone who needs it.

In a similar vein, Japan has created a centralized, public bank of cord blood by amassing donations from birthing mothers. And it's working. According to The New York Times, more than 40 percent of all bone-marrow transplants in Japan now use publicly banked cord blood.

No true national bank exists in the United States, although two centers, the National Marrow Donor Program in Minneapolis and the New York Blood Center, accept voluntary cord blood donations and allow anyone who needs bone-marrow transplants to search for a match. Almost all US cord-blood transplants have come from these two banks -- not the dozens of private ones -- because they make matches within a much larger group than just one family.

Trading on parents' anxiety is certainly a valid foundation for business, and few argue that private cord-blood banks should be illegal. But their existence shouldn't draw attention away from the real need, which is a national, public cord-blood banking program.

Dr. Darshak Sanghavi, a clinical fellow at Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, can be reached at www.prevista.net/map.

Personally, I will not be banking my baby's cord blood. Quite frankly this is a new business that is primarily about fear and profit (they are pretty much unregulated and most medical associations frown upon them). The big thing is that the science is just not there yet to take advantage of the few stem cells that are in cord blood. Maybe it will be someday... I don't know about donation... I will probably talk to the doctor about it. Hope this helps...

numberlady We got two U/S pics, one looked like a blob. Then he changed angles and got that one, which looks a lot more like a fetus.

I also can't sleep. I have to eat something every 3-4 hours regardless of time of day. So I wake up during the night for a few crackers, a drink of water and to go to the bathroom. I haven't slept through the night in weeks (which I guess is preparing me for the baby!)

Numberlady - SO GLAD to hear everything is OK Sorry to hear you are still spotting and cramping - that must be making you crazy sowrried. Try not to stress about it, the stress can probably make it worse, you know?

Constipation - most fruits that are high in fiber will help - like apples and prunes. Chocolate also seems to, uhm, move things along for me. [blushes]

Had an appointment yesterday with a sonogram (Is that the right term? The wand was on my tummy, not the inserted one. That's an ultrasound, right? Or do I have them messed up?) and DH got to see and hear the heartbeat. Everything looks good. We saw a little arm and a little leg waving around!

DID NOT LIKE the doctor I met with. There are 5 in this practice, and I am supposed to meet all of them. I like my regular GYN doc, and I have met two of the other docs throughout my 5 years at this practice. So I like 3 of the 4 I have met so far. This guy yesterday just skeeved me out. Told me as soon as I sat down in his office that being PG is easy. Yeah, so if it wasn't easy on me, would I really feel comfortable telling you that? He also said he feels the c-section rate should be much, much higher because of the reduced risk of malpractice lawsuits. Well, that's really having your patients' best interests at heart, huh? Worried about yourself getting sued. Jerk!

Anyway, I'm feeling pretty good. Lost another pound and a half, putting me at somewhere around an 8 pound loss for the past 10 or so weeks. But, I gave up all alcohol, of course, plus my daily Diet Coke (or two or three) and I totally lost my sweettooth. Went from a little chocolate everyday to no sweets whatsoever, so that explains a lot. No one seems worried.

WHEN WILL YOU TELL YOUR BOSS/COWORKERS? Assuming you work outisde the home, and assuming your constant puking hasn't tipped them all off already! ;)

Oh, and what the heck is up with 4:30 a.m.? I work second shift, so I get home around 1 a.m. every morning. I am usually asleep by 2 a.m. and up again at 4:30. Sometimes I have been able to sleep through the night no problem, and others I get up and pee and go right back to sleep. But some nights, I am just UP. that's sucks, since I'm so exhausted all day no matter how well I sleep at night.

I also do not plan on banking cord blood. Too costly, and not enough instances of it actually being helpful to the child or family. I may look into donating to a public bank.

Aletheia
02-10-2006, 11:23 AM
No cord blood banking here, though we might try to donate to a public bank. That seems like a good idea. And a less expensive idea.

Ladies, add me to the list of spotters. It started ever so gradually two days ago, and today it's a bit more. All of it a rusty brown, and no need for a pad, but lordy it is scarey. My midwife said not to worry, to call back if it gets red, if I feel more cramps. I know all that, but it doesn't help. I'm going to go obssess for a minute on google and see if I can find the statistics of problems this late in the first trimester. Yes, undoubtedly an unhealthy pasttime. But I'm not strong enough to refrain.

FYI I spotted with both my first pregnancys, and nothing was wrong! I actually had 2 "false periods" with the first boy, so I didnt even know I was pregnant until 3rd month! (okay I was young and dumb, my boobs hurt, I felt ill, but hey I wasnt pregnant I was having my period.....HAHA!) Just take it easy ladies with spots, your body is just getting used to having a baby in there, and its had alot more years of sluffing off that membrane and doing the period thing... Im sure its going to be fine!

Just got back from my appointment. Everything looked good. We saw the baby, it measured 1.34 cm, and had a heart rate of 156 bpm. DH is going to scan the pictures so I can post them. She wanted to push back the due date by two days, but I figure I will leave it where it is at unless it shifts drastically at some point in the future. Hearing the heart beat was very cool and wasn't something that I expected from the first appointment. DH avoided eye contact with everything but the screen even though I told him he better get used to it, because it is only going to get uglier. ;)

The practice has a 30% C-section rate which is equal to the national average. The doctor that I saw today said that some of the doctors in the practice have a higher rate than others so I guess I need to make a little chart so I can keep that in the back of my mind for the birth.

I had my first ob visit. All seems to be well--although I did not have an u/s or a listen to the h/b. She did an exam and said my uterus was consistent with 8-10 weeks along. Good enough. I'm feeling so crummy, I'm not too concerned. At the next visit we'll try to hear the h/b. I'm hoping we only need one u/s this time around, which would be ~20 weeks. With DS we were there every other week because he was so huge.

Finally had my OB appointment. Got the results of my 3 hour GTT and thankfully, I passed with flying colors. I'll still have to do it again with the rest of you, but she did give me advice on how to try and avoid develping GD - basically a "South Beach" type of diet and 30 minutes of exercise everyday. Since I'm feeling a bit more like myself this week, I'm going to do my best to follow the instructions. She also said that my uterus felt normal for 9w - so I don't think I'm having twins. Darn! ;)

No U/S :( - but we'll listen to the Heartbeat at the next appoinment on March 3rd. I'm also waiting to hear back from the office to find out when my CVS will be scheduled.

I can't believe how quickly we're all progressing - hope those dealing with m/s and other worrying symptoms get relief soon.

I'll try to catch up on some of the QOTD's-

Water - not drinking enough, but I've stock the house a bit better, so I hope to improve that too. Still having a decaf coffee in the morning and a caffeine free diet pepsi every once in a while.

Maternity clothes - I actually pick up a couple of jeans, pants and t-shirts last weekend at the Old Navy sale. I have been wearing one of the jeans because I needed new clothes anyway and that's what I'm buying now. They're actually the kind with no panel in front but an adjustable waistband in the back. More like comfy plus size jeans. It works for now. Othewise, I'm still wearing my regular clothes.

Constipation - I'm also suffering from constipation. :( Ouch is more than enough description of how it felt. Taking Colace to try and avoid having the problem.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Still getting sick, nothing new here. We're at the tail end of a blizzard here. We got 14 inches of snow. Looks like I won't be going to work tomorrow. I'm attempting to make chicken pastine soup today. I hope I don't get put off by the smell. I haven't been able to cook anything for at least 6 weeks now. I figure with DH out there in the snow I should at least have something hot for him to eat.
Hope everyone is feeling well!!

__________________________________________________ _____

So I am slowly starting to feel more and more like myself. Its actually quite nice! I still have the nausea but its nothing like it used to be. I still get tired, but its more manageable!!

We looked at cribs this weekend and we narrowed it down to a few. We are probably going to be ordering sometime in the next month just because we thik that it may take awhile to actually get the crib in. My MIL offered to buy the crib for us ;) so its nice not to have to worry about that expense.

Last night I went to Old Navy to look around and saw some things I can wear now like the cargo pants that have stretchy sides that can be adjusted. We will be heading back there to spend some $$ this week as well since I wasn't in the mood to try clothes on.

Do any of you notice that your belly will look decent just a bump in the morning and then by the end of the day it gets quite large? Am I the only one that this happens to?

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. Take care of yourselves ladies :)

Welcome, Brenda. :)

Sorry to those dealing with m/s still and/or insomnia. I have been waking up during the night because I have to pee so bad it hurts, but luckily I am able to go back to sleep. My appetite came back this weekend with a vengeance! I have a feeling the few pounds I lost during the 1st several weeks will quickly return. :o

Spotting- Thankfully, my spotting stopped today. I can take a deep breath again. However, my m/s seems to have resurfaced (?!). Given the circumstances, I couldn't be more thrilled to feel so ill.

Thanks for doing updates, Summer.

I think my first baby purchase is going to be a baby bjorn. RO's, do any of you have one? Which model?

I have 2...the regular and the "Sport" version. I can not recommend the "sport" one enough! It is about $15 or so more than the original, but worth EVERY penny. It differs by having more support on the lower back, taking a lot of the pressure off the shoulders.

I take DD to Disneyland, and carry her in the sport version and can go most of the day without feeling tired.

Welcome Brenda!

Aletheia sorry about the spotting. Very scary, but it sounds like everything will be fine! Quick question about your post... what's a "baby bjorn"??? (Man, is anyone else as clueless about baby stuff as I am???)

Not much going on here. Lots of smoothies have removed me from the constipated-mommies group! (thank goodness!) The only problem I am suffering from is lots and lots of low grade headaches. I have had one pretty much all weekend (including during the night). Regular strength tylenol sucks, so I have just been trying to deal (by being grouchy and spending lots of time on the couch). Is anyone else dealing with this? I'm worried it could be blood pressure...

Well, I was supposed to have my first appt this wednesday, but they changed it first to thursday and now they changed it again! My first appt isnt until February 22nd, which totally sucks. I'm so jealous of everyone here with their u/s, etc. Has anyone else not had an appt yet?

Have a great morning (even though it is monday...). Hope the m/s stays away!

Good morning ladies! First off hugs to numberladies I am so sorry for your lost.

Welcome Brenda here is to a H&H 9 months!

Things are pretty much the same around here. Other than this weekend I ate like a pig and I am feeling it today! I feel like if I've put on 20lbs, my belly looks huge and I am just very uncomfortable. Not to mention (sorry TMI ahead) I have so much gas, I know nice huh?. It is just nasty! :(

Other than that I broke down the news to some friends yesterday, they were very happy for us. I am so close to the 12 week that I think I am just going to start telling people this week… we will see.

I have definitely notice how my belly gets bigger by the end of the day, when I told my friends they couldn't believe, they were saying how they couldn't see any belly at all (this was around 1:00pm). After pigging out for dinner I looked at myself and the mirror, and thought 'Thank God they can't see me now', I can't believe it was the same body!

Thank you batgirl for asking about the baby bjorn … I am clueless too :)

And here is the update from Baby Center
11 Weeks

How your baby's growing: Your fig-sized baby is now fully formed — measuring 1 1/2 inches long and weighing in at a quarter of an ounce. His skin is still transparent, allowing many of his blood vessels to show through. Some of his bones are beginning to harden, and tiny toothbuds are starting to appear under his gums. His fingers and toes have separated, and he may soon be able to open and close his fists. He's already busy kicking and stretching, and his tiny movements are so fluid they look like water ballet. These movements will increase as his body grows and becomes more developed and functional. As his diaphragm develops, your tiny tenant may also start to get the hiccups. Because he's still so small, though, you won't feel any of his workouts or intrauterine gulps until sometime between weeks 16 and 20.

How your life's changing: At this point, you may be experiencing some strange symptoms, such as excessive saliva. Learn which of your symptoms are normal and which are a sign that something might be wrong. You're probably also wondering things like, Can I keep going to dance class? Could the air bags in my car hurt my baby? Which cold medications are safe to take now? Find out what's safe and what's not during pregnancy.

Don't worry if nausea has made it impossible for you to eat a wide variety of healthy foods or if you haven't put on much weight yet (most women gain between 2 and 5 pounds during the first trimester). Your appetite will likely return soon and you'll start to gain about a pound a week.

Pregnancy tip: Cutting your wait "After my first couple of trips to the doctor, where I sat for long periods in the waiting room, I learned to schedule my prenatal checkups for first thing in the morning or the first appointment after lunch — when there's no backlog of patients to get through and thus little or no wait." — V.W.B.

We had the cheaper version of the Baby Bjorn (the Snugglie front carrier) and didn't care for it. For those who may be interested, there are a few other options for carrying (or wearing as it's sometimes called) your baby. Check out the Baby Sling thread over in parenting.

We used a hybrid pouch/sling with DS and later a Mei Tai. We'll be using them again.

I feel like junk today. I wanted to crawl right back into bed. Blech.

I've been on a real baby item obssession kick lately. Like rosegardenc, we'll be moving before Jr. gets here and so we don't want to buy too much. But that doesn't mean I can't still start putting together a list, right? There's so much to research, too. DH says to just wait until April and May (when we are selling one house, buying another, packing, moving, and unpacking!) and we'll do "all the baby shopping then." But I tend to think it doesn't work that way!

So here are the things I know I want, or at least think I know, so far. If any of you have words of wisdom about any of these things, spill!

A baby sling/carrier. Most likely a bjorn, as I've said. They seem to get the best reviews most places.
A breast pump. I will be a SAHM, but it seems a pump is still important. Electric? Battery? Manual? Brands? OMG.
Cloth diapers, but disposables for the first few days.
A crib.
Considering a Snap N Go for a car seat, or a stroller with universal car seat adaptability. I don't want a travel system, I don't think. I'd rather have a 10-15 pound stroller, not a 30 pound one. The stroller companies I like best s far: Combi, Peg Perego.
A Snap N' Go:

Anyway... just some thoughts! It's fun to start getting excited about this. So here's a QOTD:

Will you be registering? If so, (or if you did with your first baby), where will/did you register, and why? And when is it good to open the registry?

QOTD I am definitely going to register. My friend has already told me she is throwing me the baby shower. When we got married she offered but someone else said that was doing it and I never had a shower for my wedding, so she wants to make sure I do this time :). More than likely I will register in Babys R Us just because they carry almost everything, and there is one less than 2 miles from work and home. I also like the flexibility of being able to buy stuff online, for those that are out of the state and won't be able to make it to the shower (ILs). and even if they make it to the shower they can just send it directly and they don't need to carry it with them on the plane.

QOTD- Target for me :O) My family and friends are so spread out and there is a Target everywhere, even if they dont have computer access. For us this is pretty important, as its been a LOONNNNGGG time since I had my last, and well a divorce, and moving with little ones, I dont have ANY of my baby stuff anymore! Soo we are starting totally from scratch.

I have a question for you ladies, last night my honeypie asked about innoculations, see, he was not ever given any shots as a baby. (his mother was raised Christain Scientist) so it was for religious reasons. I dont know that I am comfortable NOT giving my baby shots! It scares me with some diseases that were "no longer a threat" appearing in some countries again, ie, measles for one! So whats your thoughts? and CS'ers out there? I want to know stories and thoughts as he said he isnt beyond being pushed towards it, he just wants to have more info first.

Aletheia

Vaccines- I think I can understand not vaccinating a child, if only because I know that when the time comes to put something foreign into my little baby's body via a needle I will not at all be rational enough to think it is a good idea. But more than this, there have been suggestions that vaccinations have some possible relationship with autism, but I think a lot of them are pretty shakey suggestions.

But when it comes down to it, I think it is my responsibility as a parent to the public well-fare, if nothing else, to vaccinate my children. Every non-vaccinated child is a weak link that may help once-gone diseases return and wreak havoc... on the elderly, on the weak, etc.

It is something I think I need to do more research about. Maybe we should start a thread about it in parenting, if there isn't one?

We registered at BRU the first time around and had a pretty good experience. Not sure if we'll be registering this time around. I never thought I've had a baby shower for the 2nd baby but everyone- friends and family included is asking when I'll have one. I might let my mom throw a sprinkle IF its a girl. We'll see. Most people don't register till about 20 weeks.

Altheia- I'm researching breast pumps now too. I rented a Ameda the first time around and loved it! I'm going to buy one this time around. I'm going to get the double pump Purely Yours. The other popular brand is the Medela PIS. Most people say you only need a manual single one if you're going to be a SAHM but I would totally go for the double electric- So much faster and easier!

Rosegarden- DS has had all his shots. I know some people dont beleive in them but my sons health is too important to risk any kind of diseases.

M/S has hit. I've thrown up at least once over the past 5 days. This is the point where with DS i was getting better. IT seemed to all of the sudden hit me. I had my apt last week and all was well. Had another U/S and baby looked great- was kicking its legs all over the place. They told me I won't have another u/s till I meet with the perintologist around 19-20 weeks unless something comes up before then. I'm just happy i've already had 4 of them:rolleyes:

I'm starving. Off to eat.

registering: with rachel, we registered at target.

But when it comes down to it, I think it is my responsibility as a parent to the public well-fare, if nothing else, to vaccinate my children.

But when it comes down to it, I think it is my responsibility as a parent to be fully aware of what is being injected into my child's body.

It is something I think I need to do more research about. Maybe we should start a thread about it in parenting, if there isn't one?

IIRC, there have been a few vax threads (maybe I'm thinking of WC) and they tend to get pretty heated.

~

All of that said, my daughter is partially vaccinated on a delayed schedule. I did my own researched, discussed my thoughts with her pediatrician and together, we came up with a schedule that works for everyone.

QOTD Registering: I have no idea yet if we will.

QOTD Vax'ing: we will definitely vax. From what I have read, the potential correlation between vaccinations and autism has to do with mercury poisoning. Some vaccinations contained thimerisol (mercury-derived).

QOTD: We had registered at BRU & PBK the first time. I have no idea how soon we had registered. I wish I had done more research though. I ended up with a big old travel system that I hated & when it came time to buy a double stroller I really researched & got something I loved. We only did bedding from PBK which I felt guilty for, it was so $$$$, however since this will be our 3rd baby sleeping on it, I guess it was worth it.

Nothng exciting here. I dug out my maternity clothes yesterday & was amazed at the stuff I had forgotten. I am really set for summer because I was a SAHM but most of my winter/spring stuff is business. I can maybe get away with some basic long sleeve t-shirts but Old Navy has none on their site, guess I need to hit the store at some point. I am still hanging in my pre-diet clothes & weighing myself this morning actually down a pound. I know that the belly will just keep growing & growing though. :D

Hope you all have a HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!

Morning ladies!

Nothing new with me. Feeling great, so counting my blessings!

Registering Haven't really thought about it. I assume we will register (probably Target), but have absolutely no idea what kind of stuff we'll be needing...

Vaccinations Di hit it right on the head. There have been several lawsuites and some people refusing childhood vaccinations because of thimerisol (which is a mercury-based preservative in most vaccinations). Rest assured, there has been no true evidence that says vaccinations are linked to autism. There are some scary reports out there, but they are based on skewed data (trying to establish a "link" so that parents can sue the pharmaceutical companies)... These reports have been poo pooed by reputable health care professionals. In a recent study comparing live vaccine (no thimerisol) vs. the common vaccines (with thimerisol) there was no significant difference in autism rates. I will absolutely be vaccinating all my children.

Numberlady - I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

Vaccinations - I will definitely have my child vaccinated also...no ifs, ands or buts.

Registering - I will probably register at Wal Mart and Baby's R Us. I love Target but Target isn't a very large chain in my area. There is only one target in the entire city, but you can find a Wal Mart on practically every corner!! Plus in my home town (where my parents still live) there is NO Target or Baby's R Us at all...just Wal Mart.

Constipation - The constipation is gone for now. I drank some metamucil and some apple juice and I'm much better now. I need to increase water, juice and fiber intake so I won't have the problem again.

LyLMyssChaos
02-14-2006, 06:28 AM
QOTD: Registering- We registered with our DD at Target, JCPenney and BRU. One word of caution about Target, you may wind up with duplicates because they are kinda slow about updating their registries, so try to remind everyone that you will need receipts because Target will not accept a return without a receipt.

QOTD: Vaccinations- We "selectively" vaccinate. Which means that our children do get vaccinated, but they do not receive all of them. We don't do the Chickenpox vaccine, the flue vaccine or the MMR(because it is cultured in eggs and my children so far have had egg allergies.) We also do not do the "4 in 1"(pediavax?) vaccine, I know it's more shots, but I prefer that my children get individual vaccines. But we do get the Prevnar vaccine.

Hey all. I'm still feeling pretty queasy pretty much all the time but no exorcist style throwing up yet (that was the norm last time) so I'm still considering this a bonus.

We told my parents over the weekend. They were pretty shocked, but congratulated us and I think they are excited and happy (although maybe a little overwhelmed - they worry for us about how we can afford things, make our house work etc. We'll be fine, they just like to worry.)

QOTD - Registering - we won't register this time, as this is our second baby. But last time we registered at BRU and Target. I agree with a previous poster that Target is sometimes slow to mark things off your registry. Also when i set my registry up online for some reason it never showed up in the store and I had to re-do it. They will take a few returns without a receipt, but it is a set number and once you hit that number they won't let you return anything else (I had to have my mom, sister and DH do returns for a year until my "ban" was over.)

QOTD - Pump - I had the medela pump in style and medela pump in style advanced (one was loaned, I bought the other). I found that I needed two because my son wouldn't nurse so I exclusively pumped for his first year. It was a pain to carry it back and forth to work every day so I left one at work and one at home. I found the medela PIS pumps to be very very good and ideal for someone who has to pump at work because you can do both breasts at once and rather quickly. That said, they are pretty expensive and if you don't need that regular every day pumping, or don't need that speed, you might do just as well with a different pump.

QOTD - Vaccinations - I feel very strongly about vaccinating my son and he has had all his vaccines according to schedule as will this new baby. That said, there are a number of people who feel very strongly that vaccinating is not the right way to go for their child. The best advice anyone can give you is to read up on all the benefits and potential side effects so that you can make an informed decision yourself - that way you can always feel confident that you did the right thing. It is true that with many vaccines there are some risks involved - but to me the risk of the negative side effect was small enough that it was a risk I was willing to take in exchange for the protection against the disease in question.

Hey Ladies!

M/s is still kicking my butt, but I think the vitamin B6 is at least helping me make it through the day. By the time I get home though, I feel far worse and want nothing to do with food, yet I'm starving and I end up puking if I don't eat enough.

My toothbrush got me last night. I was happily brushing, but set off my gag reflex and it was over. My dentist isn't going to like it if I don't brush, but if it keeps my cookies down, I'll skip it.

Anyone else noticing a lot of congestion? I feel short of breath too, like I've got a little bit of a chest cold, and my nose is always sniffly.

QOTD - Registering We'll probably do Target and/or BRU, but my ILs want to buy the furniture so we'll probably find that elsewhere.

I leave for a conference in Florida on Sunday and I'll be gone until Wednesday, just hoping I'll have enough access to food throughout the day. Fortunately, I'm staying at the resort the conference is being held at, so I can escape to my room if I need a snack or a nap!

thank you all for your response to the vacination thing, As I said, both my boys were vacinated, Tho I did put it off with Chance until he was a bit older (around 2 I think) because I was worried about how he would take it, being he was a premmie and has such a hard time medically when he got here. I personally dont think I would NOT vacinate my new baby, but when Dale brought it up I had to think about it. He thinks its what makes him so healthy (not having gotten shots) but personally I think he is full of BS, he has many more health problems then I do, and hey I got all the shots plus some because of travelling to the orient as a child (age 6)

I had terrible dreams last night about the baby, I had a dream that I was at a dr's appt and we did our usual ultrasound and I could see malformations, that my baby was a Downs baby. I am def. getting all the tests done! I know its silly, but how do you squal such fears if not by testing EVERYTHING! I am just so antzy to get to my first appt, and have the Dr's tell me we look good so far and get the blood work done etc! Who knew I would be such a freak about it now! LOL! I didnt worry at all about the other boys some odd 12 and 14 years ago!

RE: tooth brushes, yep gotta watch out for them! I found that I will be okay if I wait until the mid morning to brush, but if I do it first thing while getting ready for work, I WILL end up barfing all day!

numberlady so sorry for your loss.

aletheia you should get a lot of use out of the bjorn. we have the active one and like it. i'm more into slings, so my dh uses the bjorn.

registrywe registered at babystyle and bru last time, i was very happy with both. we won't register again. i shouldn't need much this time around, but i do have quite a list of things i want to get.

pump since i'm a sahm, i went with a cheaper medela electric and it burned out so fast, this time i'm investing in the pump in style.

vaxing my dd (and future children) will be on a selective/delayed vax schedule. it's extremely difficult to find any unbiased information, but there is a good book by dr. stephanie cave "what your dr. may not tell you about vaccinations", it's not really for or against vaccines and it's little outdated, but it's still informative.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

Last night I was miserable (I will elaborate later when I have time to actually type) and was exhausted this morning from it.

Threw up again this morning (6 weeks in a row--- this is getting REALLY old  )

Vaccinations: My children will be vaxed. As a teacher, the state requires all students coming through the system (NC, at least) to be updated on all their vax and if not, have to have proof of why they aren't (religious reasons). I think the reason to be vaxed outweighs the 'possibilities,' IMHO.

Here is one of the cribs we are seriously considering:

I have yet to see this one at the Babies R Us store and we really want to physically see and check out the crib before we buy it. I also liked a Munire one but it doesn't have the drop front and I really need the front to drop since I am super short

We are still checking things out but probably once the second trimester hits, we'll start buying things.

SuieJ - I too have had a stuffy nose for WEEKS now! Getting tired of not really being able to breathe.

QOTD - Vaxes - DH and I have discussed this a little, and we will likely vax selectively and delayed.

Registering - Haven't really thought about this yet. I'm sure we will, probably at BRU, but we need to buy a house between now and baby, so that's taking precedence.

Anyone else still losing weight? I'm not worried about, and the docs don't seem to be either, but it just seems so *wrong.* Ate like a pig when DH and I went out for Valentine's lunch together today, though!

well I have been too busy to post lately but I have been reading along.
I had my first Dr visit today and we got to hear the heartbeat it was so amazing keith could not stop smiling the whole way home and I was just as bad smiling and laughing so hard I couldn't stop. the Dr did say we have a very active baby in there because every time she would find the heartbeat the baby would move and she would have to go looking again. but she said the heartbeat was very strong and that my growth is right on track. I am so happy this is the first time this whole thing has felt real.

Vaccinations - I hadn't thought about it a whole lot yet but I guess I need to start after all time is running out

Registering - I would like to register at BRU but there isn't one near any of my family so I will most likely go with target

Hope you all had a great V-Day between hearing the babys heartbeat and the great dinner keith took me out for my day was wonderful

I have my first U/S on Feb. 27th and My next Dr. appt is March 14th

I'm having cramping this morning. I know it's probably stretching of some sort but it's right where Bean is (below my belly button) and it hurts. It woke me up at 5:45am this morning and haven't gotten rid of it yet (it's 8:05). I'm calling the nurse at 8:30 to see what they recommend. I tried to use the bathroom (nope) and threw up a little thinking that would be it. Ugh. I'm so uncomfortable!

Morning ladies,

Nothing new here, just impatiently awaiting my first doctors appt which is still a week away... oh well.

Camdynlyn I had cramping yesturday in the same spot you just mentioned. It went away after a few hours, so hopefully yours will too!

Craftgenius I love the crib! We haven't looked at all (don't even know where to begin). We need to determine if we are making yet another cross country move this summer before we start buying stuff.

Have a great day ladies!

I just wanted to post some reassurance for the mama's that are concerned about losing weight. I have lost weight with all 3 of my previous pregnancies, and actually wound up 20+ pounds lighter than when I got pregnant, so I wouldn't be too concerned. I don't know what your "regular" weight is, but my OB's have all told me that women who are larger at conception, tend to lose weight instead of gaining, and that is very common. I don't have anything to go on this time around yet, but I am hoping that I lose weight with this one too! ;) :p

Things are going well here. I'm still sick but not that bad..woo-hoo!!
Summer ~ I've been cramping like that as well. It hurt so bad yesterday that I didn't want to get off the couch. It's normal. I remember having it with my DS.
craftgenius ~ Beautiful crib. We have a darker colored sleigh crib. I love dark wood.
qotd ~ we will vaccinate this child just like we did our DS.
Kmart near my house is going out of business and I went over there to see if I could get some deals. I bought the new baby onesies, side snap tshirts, gowns, and I got some new playtex nurser bottles. I also bought newborn swaddlers pampers. It seems so weird to be buying all this again, weird but awesome at the same time :D

Hey ladies. I have been MIA lately because life is so busy! I need to start a journal so I can whine in private. :p Last night we told our families. Even though I prepared DH with an answer to the question - "was this planned?", he stumbled a bit when every single person on his side asked that question. We need to teach them some manners! His mom started crying and had to hang up because she was so excited to be a Grandma. I couldn't get both my parents on the phone without being too obvious, so I told my Mom to tell my Dad that we were having a baby and she said "Are you kidding?" It wasn't exactly how I envisioned it going down, but it was funny. They are excited, too.

QOTD - Registering I am reading the Baby Bargains book and they really put down Target's return policy, so much that they only recommend Babies R Us. We will probably register at both (we are such risk takers ;) ).

QOTD - Vaccinations We will vaccinate.

I'm been MIA lately - just really busy with being back to work. I've been too tired to come online when I get home in the evenings.

My sickness is subsiding. I'm still taking meds, but I'm only vomiting 1-2 times a day, and otherwise feeling pretty good overall. Work is exhausting of course, and I feel like I have nothing left to give Claire at the end of the work day. I've got this upcoming Monday off, so I'm hoping to get in a bit of good family time this weekend.

Cramping - seems a few of us are having this. I'm basically having the same as others - pinchy cramping right where the little one is.

My belly is growing - I need to get an updated belly shot. I weighted myself tonight at MIL's and I'm 99lbs  . Yup, I'm a giant. I'm glad to see that I'm no longer losing weight anyway, since I was down close to 92lbs when they admitted me to the hospital. I don't really have the luxury of any extra pounds to lose.

Off to get a snack and relax. DH is working out of town tonight, and Claire is sleeping at her G-Ma's house. Just me and the puppy dog! And, I'm sleeping in until 8 tomorrow, because I have the first period of the day off, and my dept. head volunteered to cover my Homeroom for me, so I could come in later!! :D

Hope you all have a great night!

Each day I am beginning to feel more and more like my old self again. So I have been catching up on things that I have been putting off, house work mostly. I still get tired easily and I still need naps. I have not made a "real" home cooked meal in weeks so I will try that this weekend. Hopefully my stomach will be able to handle the smells.
I am truly looking forward to the 2nd trimester. I have been getting so worked up about every twinge and cramp lately especially since I had the sonogram. I have a condition called Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, it is an autoimmune disorder. So I constantly worry about my immune system attacking the baby. I will probably feel that way until baby is in my arms.

I hope that Nikki has just been really busy! It's true she hasn't posted in a while.

This morning I got to hear the heartbeat! What a lovely valentine from my baby. It was strong and steady and in the 160's. What's the old wives' tale about heart rates and gender?

After my spotting this weekend, it was such a relief. When I got in the car, I just sat there for a minute, feeling like a different person (because I had just listened to my tummy and found there was a different person in there!)

Anyway... here's my weekly belly picture. I'm wearing my $4 goodwill jeans, which are so much more comfy than all my other pants at this point. Not that I'm that much bigger, but there's definitely more firmness and less squishiness beneath my belly button.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6dc34b3127cce972f423b434e00000135108AcuGbZy1ct5

I'm exhausted and have just been plodding along, mindlessly surfing the internet and avoiding preparing my lecture notes for tomorrow. I've no idea why I'm still awake, so... I'm headed to bed. Good night mommies!

I'll leave most of the details in my journal so I don't use up space here but I started spotting Sunday morning very early and by Sunday night when I went to an ER in Adele, GA there was a sac and no baby.

I wish you lucky September mommas so much happiness and joy with your precious babies and I will be doing my best to keep up with your progress. I hope to be joining you guys in parenthood sometime. It's just not our time yet apparently.

Nikki: I feel so horrible for you right now! I remember everything you went through with Jacob, and I know how badly you wanted this baby. It really isn't fair. Chemical pregnancy/blighted ovum are just in my opinion a cruel phenomenom of nature. I know this probably won't help you now, but they are VERY common, more common than most people realize. I myself had one at 15 weeks during my second pregnancy and I don't know if you guys are ready to try again so soon, but we were pregnant again within 6 months of mine happening. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

This is so exhausting, seems like lately every time I come around we have bad news... it is starting to get to me, I am being so paranoid that I am checking my underwear every 5 minutes to make sure there is nothing... can we all get to the second trimester and have to forget about the potential risk? :( .

On that note {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} for Happy, you and your family will be in our prayers.

On another note, I am also being paranoid because I am pretty much 'symptoms free' other than the big boobies (I was a small B before preg and my cups are starting to fill up), is not anything out of the ordinary but to me they just look huge! I feel like if everybody is looking at them and they might thing I got a 'boob job'. That and the common tiredness, part of me is glad those are the only symptoms I feel but then when I come here and read everything is going on I just get scared.

I have not felt either any pain around the belly button area like some of you mentioned, but I definitely feel movement and noises down there… things must be making place for the baby.

I can't believe the baby is the size of a lemon now… where the heck is it? I would have expected to have a little bit more of belly by now, but I guess I need to be patient. I will take a belly shoot on Saturday and will update.

Lastly, we started telling people. It feels so good, but at the same time is so freaking scary, after waiting this long I thought maybe we should have waited a little longer until we got the results of our nuchal test next week, but I guess if you think that way you could keep postponing it until the bay is actually here.

Can't wait til Tuesday to hear the heartbeat, it is so cool Aletheia that we are so close, because I always know what to expect from my dr's visits after you post about yours :D.

Oh, Nikki and curlygurl. I am so sorry about your losses. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your DHs.

Well, I will be 13 weeks on Monday and it seems that my body has traded in m/s for throbbing headaches. Anyone else experiencing this? What's worse is that Tylenol doesn't even begin to help and that is all we can take, right? While these have not been migraines, I have a history of getting them and I am scared to death of getting one and only being allowed Tylenol. I have always kept Imitrex with me so that when my vision starts to go I can take one, so I don't know how else to deal with them. Anyone know? This may just be a question for my OB next week. Which reminds me...Next appt. is Feb 28th.

UTchick ~ I'll be 12 weeks on Monday and I started getting pounding headaches last week. I'm still getting m/s only it hits at night. I threw up in the Acme parking lot tonight. There was a guy walking passed me and he looked at me like I was a total burnout. I was mortified. I too get migraines and take Imitrex. Tylenol really isn't cutting it. There are times that I wake up in the middle of the night because of a headache. I'm going to call my OB and ask her what's up.

Also on the migraine front, I get them, really bad. My OB and the perinatologist has given me the okay to use Excedrine Migraine for mine, so you may want to ask your doctor about that as an option?

Headaches: Add me to this list. I've been pretty headache free for weeks since seeing the Chiropractor but they are coming back and I thought it was a result of that. I'm making an emergency chiro. appointment for Monday since my next scheduled one isn't until March 1st. I also contributed it to the fact I went to the mountains and thought the differences in pressure may be affecting my head but since so many others are having them, maybe it's pregnancy hormones. I'm taking 500mg of Acemen (whatever that long word is) and it seems to help if I also eat a little snack. That's the only suggestions I have.

Nothing new. Still sick but sticking it out.

Nicki and Curlygirl, so sad, so sorry!

I have been getting headaches the last few days, but I just atributed them to change of weather, living in Denver I seem to get sinus headaches when low pressure storms come thru, and I am guessing they are worse now, because of my body making more blood and pumping it around due to the baby. Last night I got one at work, had to go to my OB appt, had 6 viles of blood drawn and then the headache worsened! UGH! I am happy to report that it seems to have gone away with sleep tho, no sign of it this morning.

As for the appt, everything looks good! I my sonogram actually shows arms and legs, not just a peanut shape YAY! :) I am looking forward the next appt March 17th at which point I will be 10 weeks and get to hear the babys heart! But the NP was really happy with the sonogram yesterday, she (we are calling the baby a girl, and I guess we ARE going to find out the sex when we can, mom cant stand the suspense LOL!) is quite big already for this part of the game, and the heart beat was strong and visible YAY! I cant tell you how happy and excited we are about this pregnancy. I feel much less afraid just knowing the baby is looking so good already.

On other news, Dale proposed on Valentines day! Its official now, my dad is all a twitter, and called to talk to Dale last night about my dowry (he is so silly! ) joking about how many camels and goats that Dale really thought I was worth! HA! So much happiness in our house right now, it feels wonderful. We are going ahead with our original plans, we will get married at the courthouse this month, and start the adoption procedings for the boys, and start planning our "wedding" for late May of 07.

Rosey's got a bud in the oven!

Oh no Curlygurl I am so sorry...

How scary and sad this thread has become... :(

I'm doing okay. Still spotting and cramping. The nurse told me to watch out for certain symptoms (sharp pains instead of dull ones, if the spotting turns red instead of brownish)... I know spotting is normal, but still makes me nervous... Move me to the "cant wait to get to second trimester" column...

At least we have a bit of good news on this thread.
Congratulations on the engagement Rosegarden! :)

Headaches This has been my main preg issue. I have been having some severe throbbing headaches for a few weeks now. I tend to get migraines, but these are different. Regular tylenol doesn't do anything. I am going to ask the doctor next week about something stronger (I've heard tylenol with codeine is okay). I need something, I have one now and its been here since yesturday, all through the night, and no end in sight... ugh.

Sorry I'm so negative today... just a combination between nerves, stress and head pain... at least its friday... have a great restful weekend everyone.

I am feeling really depressed since it feels like this thread has lost so many members. Its also making me feel rather paranoid. I have started to freak out again about my Dr. telling me at my last ultrasound that I was measuring behind. I have also been experiencing the cramping like many of you, but thank God no spotting.

So when at what point are you OFFICIALLY considered to be in the 2nd trimester? I have heard 13 weeks and some say 14 weeks. And is it at the start of week 13 or the start of week 14?

I pray for all of you ladies, please take good care of yourselves and I CANNOT WAIT for the 2nd trimester!!

I'm still hear. I'm not going to let a little fear keep me away from sharing with you guys.

I think we all need some prayer in here....

Lord, thank you for giving us this gift of pregnancy, and give us all the strength and the faith we need to make it through a healthy 9 months. We realize that our lives and the lives of our babies are in your hands, and that worrying and paranoia on our parts will do no good. Give us peace of mind that everything will work out according to YOUR will. Give us the patience to go through each day and each week worry-free...allowing us to enjoy our pregnancies and rejoice in the blessings you have given us. We pray for the ladies who have lost their pregnancies and know that you have the power to bring them through any difficult days they have ahead. Give them the strength and the desire to continue to try to conceive, because we know that you have something wonderful in store for them in the near future. We know that with you, ALL things are possible....AMEN

I saw the perinatologist (sp?) today and it went really well. They did a really thorough u/s and the baby looked great! It was moving all over the place. I go back to them on March 6th for another u/s and a closer view of the heart. And then the BIG u/s at 20 weeks will be a level II also done by them on April 5th!!

At 22 weeks I have to go to Philadelphia and have a fetal echo done but I have to say a big weight was taken off my shoulders today because the Dr said you could see alot of th heart and that it looked good from what he could tell. THANK GOD! The perinatologists really impressed me and I feel so much more comfortable now.

They measured the back of the baby's neck and took blood for the nuchal screen. Is anyone else having or has had it done? They told me the results are 90% acurate and that I'd have the results back by the beginning of next week.

I'm still feeling nausous but hoping it will taper off soon. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Thank you so much for all the kind words. We are doing OK - and the doctor said that there is no reason to not try again in a couple of months. We're very hopeful for the future. I must admit that having CC and all its information actually helps me take our change much better than I expected. About half of my friends have had a miscarriage with their first pregnancy, to later have healthy children - and I just know that this will also come true for us.

Stay well - and celebrate each of your successes. I will continue to cheer you all on from the sidelines! :D

Congrats to Rosegarden on your engagement. I wish you much happiness.

Hi girls,

I am so sorry I haven't been able to get in here for almost a week. Fatigue has been getting the best of me. In addition we are very busy arranging for our move next week.

I am so sorry for those of you who are no longer with us on this journey. May you have the strenght and currage to get through the comming weeks. I hope all of you will be blessed again shortly.

My next appointment is March 9th at which point I will be 12w2d. I hope to hear the heartbeat then. I will admit I am a little worried as my m/s has been next to non-exsistant and I really don't feel PG other than the fatigue and tiny belly bump. I hope the next few weeks will make it feel more real. Only 4 more weeks till the 2nd tri!! :)

Hi ladies-

Who was it that had their eye on a crib from JCPenny's? I just got an offer for free shipping on orders within the 48 states that are worth $75 or more. It expires on the 28th of this month, and is
BBAMZGA. You can call 18002226161 for more info, too.

Also, as for the second trimester, I think it starts at the end of week 13-- turning from 13 to 14 weeks down, but maybe we can have a September Mommies Rule that states it actually begins at the beginning of week 13...the turn from 12 to 13 weeks. It could be just a little nudge in the right direction? A little something definite to lean towards, put on the calendar? Just a thought.

Hi all!

I have also been SOOO tired the last few weeks. I think it is getting better, but it is much harder this time around, chasing after an almost 1yo. (Last time, I got to sit behind a desk!)

Food cravings...oh yeah. I should NOT be allowed near the grocery store with an empty stomach. The last time I did, I came home with graham crackers & cool whip, corn dogs, and donuts. :o This time, I got Hawaiian bread to make French toast for breakfast.

My next appt. is: March 1

Since my due date got changed from Sept 1st to Aug 28th, I think I am the furthest along in our group, right? If we go by Aletheia's rule, I will be entering 2nd trimester tomorrow!! If we go with Summer's, it will be on Thursday. So chins up, ladies, we are getting there! I am sending sticky vibes in everyone's direction. :)

Koala~I'm with you!! On Wed. DH asked me to stop by the store on the way home from work to pick up a couple of things we were out of - milk, bread, etc. I left the grocery store with $90 worth of food! Unbelievable!

I am sorry so many others are dealing with the headaches, but I am glad I am not alone. I got another one yesterday. It has become an every other day thing lately. So irritating.

Well, since I am on the verge of the 2nd trimester and some of my pants are becoming uncomfortable, I decided to go buy me a pair of jeans and a pair of khakis with a belly band. My mom went with me yesterday and she went crazy. I ended up coming home with $200 worth of maternity clothes. :o Luckily pretty much everything was on sale, so I got several things. And she insisted on paying for half, so that was a bonus. The tops are all way too big right now, but will be good for later. I also had to break down a buy a couple of bras a cup size larger than my normal size. I was down to only two bras that held me in. It was weird because I have been putting off all maternity/baby stuff until the 2nd trimester, but it was kind of fun, too. :p

I took half a day today since it's a workday and I have 2 exchange days left for working this summer. I'm glad I did because I've been sick all morning. I just put on some clothes and took my meds (I didn't take the Zofran ALL weekend and I've been trying not to). I hate being sick and can't wait to get out of the stage. This morning during Round 1, Steffie was getting dressed and said, "You aren't going to want to have another child" and I said that hopefully next time woudl be different. They say every pregnancy is.

Today is a holiday, for which I'm very grateful. Although, I really have no idea what the holiday is :p .

I'm not feeling horrible, still a bit queasy off and on, and extremely tired. I've been cleaning out my dressers/closets today, since literally none of it fits me anymore.

I ordered a bunch of clothes online at motherhood.com I have no idea what their clothes is like, but the preces were great. The Canadian - US exchange rate is so low these days that it was cheaper for me to order from a US company. The exchange rate is only around 15%!! It's great!! Anyway, I hope the clothes fit, and that they are nice. I ordered jeans, 1 pair of pants, three 3/4 lenght shirts, one ribbed sweater, two tank tops, and two nursing bras! I hated the cheap-o nursing bras I had when I nursed Claire.

I have a chiro appt. today at 4:15. I haven't been there in almost two months (since I found out I was preggo).

I am so envious of everyone that is so close to their second trimester! I still expect one more month of this nausea!

Made my appointment today for my second appointment. They say it should only last about 10 minutes, so I am going to go over lunch. The appointment is March 8 with a different doctor (a man, which will be weird, but I guess I better get used to it).

DH and I are currently in negotiations for a new house (bigger to fit a new baby) so this weekend and today have been stressful. We made our offer on Saturday and are still waiting to come to an agreement. I don't know why they aren't moving faster - I just want the deal done so I can stop worrying about it! And they have already bought another house, so you would think they would be jumping all over an offer. Anyway, add it to the list of stressors in my life these days. :)

I am feeling ok, I am looking forward to my appointment on Thursday where I will be getting another ultrasound to monitor the growth of our baby since we have been measuring behind. I am hoping that the baby will be caught up and that everything looks perfect. I am excited too because they say you can actually see the head, arms, legs and everything! It won't be an internal ultrasound either so I am hoping everything will still be visable. I am also praying that I haven't gained too much more weight :o

I did break down and bought some maternity clothes from Old Navy - I got the real waist black dress pants, some cargo pants, a pair of jeans, 2 tanks and 2 tees. Maternity pants ROCK! Its like wearing PJ bottoms that actually look good! I do feel guilty that I am only 11 weeks, 4 days and already need bigger clothes!

I am really looking forward to entering the second trimester. Hang in there ladies!

I weighed myself this morning and I'm down EXACTLY 10 pounds. I do not think I'm by any means overweight or underweight (I think I'm just right for my build) but all this throwing up is making me loose it fast. I'm down to only throwing up in the mornings and although it may be a couple times that morning, it's still throwing up.

Also, I got a bill from my doctor saying I owe a certain amount for ultrasounds because it was denied by my insurance!! I thought insurance companies covered the first one because they are checking to make sure there is a heartbeat and all! I also got a bill for almost $500 for my delivery charge from my doctor. That's 20% of whatever it cost because my insurance pays 80% and I pay 20%. They said I will pay the hospital bill seperately based on what all happens during delivery. Is that right?

Camdynlyn - You already got a bill for the hospital stay??? My copayment for all of my prenatal care is due at my appointment on Thursday. I have to pay $140 which will cover the entire pregnancy. The $140 copayment covers 2 ultrasounds. I've already had two, so any additional ones I have will be $25 each...except for the 3-D ultrasound which is not covered...it costs $150. My hospital stay/delivery will be $300.

Question...how many of you ladies will be getting a 3-D or 4-D ultrasound? I DEFINITELY plan on getting one! :)

That's not bad at all. I hate my insurance (state insurance for being a teacher) and I do not think it is good at all. I will probably pay over a $1000 at least. I guess NO ultrasounds are covered on my plan since they charged me. I need to call about that because at one point, they told me 2 were.

Oh, and I've already had a 3-D ultrasound so more than likely I will have more (the lady just flipped it to that for us to see and printed out pics). Not sure about the 4-D, though.

Hi ladies!

Both of my previous deliveries cost $15, and I had c-sections! Unfortunatly we are on a different insurance now & this one has already been $40. Oh well, small price to pay for healthy pregnancy.

I can not wait to feel this baby move. I didn't feel dd until 24 weeks & ds until 16 so I won' expect any movement for another month of so but that is my favorite part of pregnancy & I am anxiously awaiting it.

I have my next appointment next Monday, February 27. If I hear the heartbeat we will start telling people right after that. I am anxious to share the good news. I am still down a couple pounds too but my belly is defintely sticking out & I am ready to display it insted of hiding it away. I wore a gigantic baggy sweater to family dinner the other night to cover it;)

Count me in for the muchies at the grocery store. Dorothy, thanks to your post the other day I just picked up Stouffer's creamed chip beef at the store & I also got tastykake cherry pie which I have not eaten in years...silly cravings. Those two pound are sure to be back on by my appointemnt on Monday.

Camdynlyn - We have similar insurance - they pay 80% after a deductible is met.

SAVE ALL YOUR BILLS/RECIEPTS and pay for copays and stuff with a check - you can deduct a lot of it on your taxes.

I have a $20 copay, and just got an EOB (Explanation of Benefits, NOT a bill) from the insurance co. for $109 for the first visit and ultrasound. DH estimates if all goes normal, and I have a routine vaginal delivery with no complications, it should cost us about $2,000 just to birth the kid. If we'd had a child under the same insurance company 2 years ago, we'd have paid (get this) one, $10 copay to the OBGYN and one $50 copay for the hospital stay.

But insurance costs are skyrocketing and my employer (a MAJOR US corp. you have all heard of) is forcing a lot of the increased costs to come out of employee's pockets.

Maternity clothes - how the heck do I know what size to buy? In Old Navy clothes pre-PG, I wore a size 10 pants, and a marge or sometimes extra large shirt, depending on style/cut. Do I just stick with a large for shirts and a medium for pants? According to the website, I should be a medium for both! That makes no sense! Guess I just need to suck it up and go try things on, huh? And I have no belly yet, but pants are tight. FUN!

I am still here, reading but not posting all those lost have definitely gotten to me, with a further due I just want to say that I am very sorry for all those that unfortunately are not around anymore.

Moving on… I had my 12w dr’s appointment today, let me tell you all this time seeing people leaving the thread had my stomach in a bundle…
I get in and before they weigh me in I tell the nurse I have to use the ladies room, she just say ‘go ahead and I will see you back here, afterwards she asks me if I left a sample…. Ok, I might not be the smartest person in the world but ‘did YOU tell me to leave a sample?”. So she tells me that every visit I am suppose to leave a sample (which I didn’t know) and to make sure I leave one before I leave. She weighs me in, takes blood pressure and all that good stuff. Next they moved me to the ‘room’, a different nurse walks in with a Doppler, she tells me we are going to listen to the heartbeat. She puts the Doppler in my tummy and NOTHING… she tried for like 3 minutes, she leaves the room and says ‘the Dr will be right with you’, ok could you tell me everything is fine or something? NOPE. So he walks in and starts checking for the h/b, he was funny he goes ‘Carmen, you can breath everything is fine’ needless to say that those were the longest 5 minutes of my life! But finally we heard it, such a beautiful sound!. He said they are so little at this stage that they hide everywhere.
I haven’t put on any weigh which didn’t really concerned me until he made a comment about it, he then said that we will see next visit how it goes, cause I am on the smaller spectrum and he wants to make sure the baby gets everything he/she needs to grow healthy, I might have to cut workouts or something, but for now he said not to worry.

Other than that everything is fine, my next appointment is March 23rd, and I actual have the nuchal test on Friday… cant wait to see the little one again :D .

Maternity clothes I am still waiting for my shipment from ON, but I think I am going to head to midtown this weekend where they have a Gap maternity and see what I can find... I can't wait to be able to wait all the cute maternity stuff :).

Maternity clothes: I got a shipment of ON clothes and I'm usually a 16 in their clothes and some of my 16's will NEVER fit me, even when I'm 40 weeks! I am buying a size down from there from now on. I'm well busted and the Larges in Maternity shirts hung on my boobs. I guess I need a Med. for this transition time. I got the CUTEST black dress from Motherhood. It was on sale for $15 and is okay for a wedding (could be formal).

Some of you guys have some fantastic insurance!!! It's amazing to think that someone could pay less than $100 for their entire pregnancy AND hospital stay!!!

Question - Have any of you checked into how much it will cost you to add your baby to your health insurance policy after he/she is born? I called today and was told that it will increase my policy by $45 per month. Which is not bad...I thought it would be more than that. I still need to have DH check to see how much it would be to add the baby to HIS policy. We have separate health insurance because his job will not allow the employees to add a spouse unless the spouse's job does not offer insurance, or unless the spouse makes $25,000 or less per year. DH already has his two children on his policy, so maybe it won't cost him anything to add one more child.

The total cost for my pregnancy and c-section delivery of my daughter was $10. This included six ultrasounds, several weeks of IV fluids, 10 weeks of non-stress tests and bi-weekly ob appts through the whole thing. I was in the hospital for four days.

(My husband works for a health insurance company. Benefits rock.)

~

I had another ultrasound this morning, my third. Last week, I started cramping and my intense nausea vanished. I had some spotting over the weekend so I was terribly worried. But the ultrasound looks great. Measuring at 10 weeks. Baby was moving around which was neat to see.

qotd: I think our monthly insurance premiums went up by about $20 when my daughter was born. We're on the family plan now, so it won't increase anymore when this child is born.

I paid $5 to have my DS. That included 3 u/s's 3 day hospital stay and several l/d room visits when I was around 13 weeks pg. I expect it will cost the same this time around.
I really don't know how much it will cost to add on another baby. My DH is in charge of that area.

Adding this baby will be free for us, we already pay for a family plan (both adults & 2 or more children), I guess that is one bonus:)

Insurance: Let's see, I do not pay anything for my insurance because I'm a teacher but it sucks so I pay for it in that area. To add me to my husbands it would be close to $500 a month. For me to add a child, it cost $420 dollars a month (last I checked this past summer). I will be putting the child on Blue Advantage unless Hubby's insurance is WAY cheaper. Blue Advantage is what most of my coworkers have their children on because of how expensive it is to add to ours. I predict, in all, I will pay a little over a $1000 for this baby.

Sleeping: I slept really well last night because I took a Tyenol PM (only 1) because of a massive headache. At the beginning (week 5 - week 10) I was sleeping like a baby. Now, I have 3 pillows and get up all the time to pee. I also have to maneuver myself to keep from feeling sick throughout the night.

Hi ladies,

I need a little moral support. This morning was my first doctors appt. It started out fine, my weight and bp were great, the NP was very nice. DH decided at last minute to come with me because he would be bummed if he missed the heartbeat, I am soooo glad he came.

Anyway, the NP checked my stomach to feel for my uterus. She said I was much bigger than I am supposed to be (I'm measuring 4mos!). She said that meant I was pg longer than I realized (which I really doubted), that I had a beign fibroid, or that it was more than one baby. DH and I kept thinking, omg were having twins! Anyway, they decided to do an u/s right away to see what was going on. The result is one baby and one really big fibroid...

Now I am officially "high risk", am scheduled for a very detailed u/s on March 1st, and am supposed to "take it easy"... She said that if the fibroid continues its growth spurt, I will most likely be on bed rest at 6mos, and monitored very closely because of my high risk of premature labor...

Anyone ever have a fibroid? I'm going to do an internet search on it today and see, plus I'm sure there are a couple of threads here. Man, I so much would have liked a second baby in there instead of a big old tumor...

Thanks for listening to me ladies. Its good to know that I can vent here. Oh, and I did see my little one moving around on the u/s (very cool!) and the heartbeat was perfect. She also said that now that we've heard the heartbeat, the risk of m/c goes down to 10%...

Insurance: Joe and I have private insurance. Its a family plan so adding the baby will not be an additional charge thank goodness. Also, we may soon become the legal guardians of a relative of DH's who has been displaced by Hurricane Katrina so no addtl charge is really a blessing. So instead of becoming a family of 4 we may go to 5 in no time at all:)

Sleeping: I still wake up 3-4x's per night to go to the BR however in the last couple of nights I have been able to go back to sleep after each trip. I was a mess during wks 6-9 because I would wake up at 2:30a and could not go back to sleep...hopefully those days are over.

Batgirl: Sorry to hear about the fibroid. I am sure it is frustrating having to worry about that when all you want to think about is bringing a healthy baby into this world. Good news is your Dr will monitor you and baby more closely.
I have a friend who is due in July and she also has a huge fibroid. Her clinicians tell her that the baby is getting the nutrient supply that he needs and the growth of her fibroid has stopped.

Insurance: Our insurance didn't go up because DH's employer has two plans: an individual plan, and a family plan. Since we were married when he started working there, he had to go on the family plan, so no change there.

Sleeping: I don't even know what that is yet! LOL It seems just as soon as I fall asleep, I have to wake up to go to the bathroom. I am still very much in the having to pee every 1 or so phase, most likely because the doctor has me drinking extra fluids because I had issues with dehydration with my last pregnancy.

batgirl: I am so sorry that you are going through this. Luckily the doctor seems to have caught it early enough that they will be able to take all of the necessary precautions. It's hard enough to be pregnant without adding other issues to it, and you will be in my thoughts.

Well, I was weighed yesterday and so far I've gained a whopping 9lbs. That seems to hold true to previous pregnancies. I go through a huge weight gain to start, then I wind up losing it all and then some, so I guess we'll see what happens. I have been having headaches almost daily and lots of cramping, but the doctor doesn't seem too concerned about it. They think it's just things stretching and growing.

Batgirl - I have fibroids. I actually have SIX!! I've had them for several years and actually had surgury for them last January. The doctor decided to leave two of the fibroids during the surgury due to their location. Since then I have grown 4 additional ones! What size is yours? I have one that is 5 centimeters...but it is on the outside of the uterus so my doctor isn't really concerned about that one. I was really upset and afraid about the fibroids in the beginning of my pregnancy, but now I have decided that my worrying about it will not do me any good. I just pray about it everyday. The ultrasound tech measured them in my two ultrasounds. At the second ultrasound she said that they had not grown since the first ultrasound. Hopefully that trend will continue. But they do in a lot of cases (from what I have heard MOST cases) grow as the baby grows. Although I have read that in some cases they shrink. I have a cousin who is currently 8.5 months pregnant and her fibroid has grown significantly...but her baby is fine and she has not been put on bed rest. There is no reason why you can not have a healthy pregnancy with a fibroid. My doctor said that she has delivered lots of babies for moms with HUGE fibroids and they come out just fine. This morning my friend sent me the name of this book she thinks I should try reading called..."Healing Fibroids: A Doctor's Guide to a Natural Cure" by Allan Warshowsky and Elena Oumana. I have heard of it before...I believe it is basically a diet that has been shown to reduce the size or growth of fibroids. Her friend followed the diet during her pregnancy and her fibroids shrunk. I actually have been told about this by several ladies. I am going to buy the book this weekend and try it...if the diet doesn't sound too crazy, I don't see the harm in trying it.

Insurance DH and I are on Kaiser and my employer will cover the baby's insurance at no extra charge to me so we are pretty lucky there.

Sleeping I am having the opposite problem! I can't get enough sleep! I was finally getting my energy back a couple of days ago and having the insomnia thing but now I am back to sleeping really good and being super super tired. Don't know how long this will last.

Batgirl Sorry I have no experience w/ the fibroid thing but I just wanted to say that I am sending good thoughts your way and hoping that the fibroid doesn't grow anymore.
______________________________________________

As for me, I have my Dr.'s appointment tomorrow. I am hoping that my ultasound will show that the baby is back to measuring on track. Since we are so close to the 2nd trimester, DH and I will probably be telling the rest of our family this weekend. I am wearing my Old Navy cargo maternity pants today and they are HEAVEN! :D

Take care ladies.

Insurance since I recently changed jobs (Sept 05) we just added myself to DH's insurance, to add the baby is only going to be like $20 since we already have a 'family plan'.

Sleeping I was waking up 2/3 times a night to go to the restroom up until last weekend, since then I have not had to wake up once, not sure why but works for me!

Cost For what I have heard (people with the same insurance as my DH) it will cost me about $50 to have this baby after everything is said and done.

batgirl I am so sorry what you are going through, and I agree with some of the girls around here... I would NOT surf the net, it can make you nuts! Maybe post under pregnancy?? I recall reading about one of the girls here having them and being fine, but I can't remember who or where I read it.

Hey all. Not a whole lot new over here. Still nauseous although I've only thrown up a few times. I'm really worried about weight gain - I'm eating pretty constantly to keep the nausea at bay and, since I'm heavy to begin with I didn't want to gain as much with this pregnancy as I did last time. Oh well, I'll try to eat healthy, but you gotta eat and if I gain more I'll just work all the harder once baby is here to lose it.

I have a doctors appointment on Friday (2/24) when I'll see my OB instead of the NP that I saw last time. I hope that we can hear the heartbeat and that she'll have some good suggestions re: food. Actually, I'm hoping that she can give me a referral to a dietician or personal chef type service - I know the insurance covers both, but I don't think I qualify for either.

Insurance - we're on a family plan already so that will be no additional co-pay for us.

Sleeping - stupid Olympics. I'm staying up late every night to watch (even though I already know the results, what's wrong with me?) so I'm going to bed later and waking up 1-2 times a night to pee. It's making me one tired camper. At least I got naps in over the long weekend.

Cost - I'll have one $20 co-pay for the OB office visits, one u/s is always covered and more will be covered if my OB codes them as "medically necessary". Last time the hospital stay, including hospital costs, doctors costs and medication costs (ie for the epidural and pain pills after birth) cost us $200 - I expect it to be the same.

Repeat Offenders - do any of you have the Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch? I've decided that's the new babywearing treat that I want for this baby. How true to size is the measuring system? I want the pouch here when baby gets here, but I'm not sure how much/if my already ample boobs will grow. So I don't know what size to think about getting... I should probably go ask this question on the sling thread huh...

batgirl i had fibroids with my dd and currently have one with this pg. did they tell you how large it is? the one i have now is the size of a golf ball and my dr. assured me that it's not a big deal. i looked a bit online and it actually made me feel better, it seems that hardest part of fibroids is actually getting pg and that the chances of other complications later in the pg are slim.

While we have the RO's, attention, I dreamt up an idea for our new thread, which is only a couple of weeks away!

RO's, I'm hoping you can recommend your absolute top favorite superest most wowy baby-related purchase/gift from previous baby/ies. Your breast pump? A book? A toy? A sling? What specific purchase/gift were you the most pleased with and would buy as a gift for all of us new moms if only you could afford it? Give us the following about it:

Recommending RO:
Wowy Item Brand Name:
Wowy Item Description:
The things you love most about it:
Tiny things you wish were different, if any:
Ballpark Cost:
Where to get it, if not easy to find:
And, if you want, a runner up wowy item:

When we start the new thread, I'll compile all the answers and put them in a post at the beginning. Sound good?

As for me, I've finally started to feel better enough to be busy, which is good because I slept through most of the first 1/4 of my semester and I have A LOT to do before May. I'm 13 weeks today! Woohoo!

batgirl, isn't it nice to know you can post a worrisome question like that and get so many reassuring responses? I hope they made you feel better! I'm glad to hear, inspite of the fibroid, that your beany is jumping all around and looks good!

Thanks EVERYONE for the reasurrance. I am feeling much better. I guess it just really threw me yesturday. I kept thinking, but I'm so healthy, how could I possibly be considered "high risk". But you guys are right, they caught it early and will monitor me very carefully. Plus, they said I will be getting LOTS of u/s, so that's pretty cool!

I don't know what size my fibroid is right now. They are going to find out next wednesday. Boy, the fibroid sure makes sense now that I think about it. My stomach has definitely been looking pregnant but I kept thinking it must be gas! I am going to have to go shopping for maternity clothes (soon!)

Craftgenius thank you so much for the info on the book. I am definitely going to look for it. Hey, it can't hurt!

Aletheia Hey, you made made the 13wk mark! Did we decide that was the second trimester? Yeah!
I think the "wowy baby-related" item is an awesome idea, since I have absolutely no idea what to purchase (and my head begins to spin whenever I look... how can there be so many choices!)

Insurance I'm pretty lucky with insurance and shouldn't have to pay for anything (at least I think) even with a "high risk" pregnancy. It will cost about $40/mo to add the baby.

sleeping normally I have been sleeping pretty well (but with really wild dreams) and waking 1-2x to use the bathroom. Last night however I must have peed 10x!

Have a good day ladies.

I had my doctor's appointment today. It was pretty uneventful except for the fact that I got to hear the heartbeat with a doppler, which was really cool!!! :D The heartbeat was 163 bpm!! I'm glad that I had read that story from Babywish about your doctor and nurse not being able to immediately find the heartbeat, because it took my doctor a few minutes to find it also...I would have been freaking out if I had not known that was no big deal. So I was very pleased and amazed about the heartbeat. They didn't do any bloodwork this time but I did have another urine test (although I have no idea what the urine test is for). My blood pressure was excellent (110 over 70), and I had gained 3 pounds since my last visit (which was Feb. 3). They did a measurement and said that I was measuring right on target. The doctor scheduled me for another ultrasound on March 9. My doctor told me that she will probably be scheduling my C-section between 37 and 38 weeks because she doesn't want me to go into labor. So as I suspected, I will definitely be having an August baby. I don't intend to leave this thread and join the August thread...I've been here too long to leave now! She said that she will be giving me a vertical incision since it is the same type of incision I had for my fibroid surgury. She said that everything is looking great and that she is happy to see me move into the second trimester. She said that getting there I have won more than half the battle.

Hi ladies,

I had my Dr.'s appointment today and it went wonderfully :D We saw the baby and it is measuring RIGHT on track! The baby was moving around everywhere and it actually looks like a baby now! We even saw the baby get the hiccups! It was so reassuring to know that everything looked so perfect. She did use a doppler to find the heartbeat and found it immediately! So overall a GREAT appointment. I did gain 2 pounds but I think some of it was because I usually got to my appointments first thing in the a.m. and because I had just eaten my lunch.

My next appointment isn't until April 6 and they will be doing the AFP test. I am hoping they will be able to tell us the gender then, before our BIG ultrasound on April 10th just because I am impatient and want to know NOW! LOL!

Take Care everyone.
