Each time I am planning for a big trip, I buy a new perfume (one that's available in the U.S.). I only do this for international trips, but I bet it would work for any trip. I wear that perfume each day of my trip, and then I set it aside for a few months after I get home. When I put it on again, a flood of memories comes rushing back - instants and places I'd often forgotten. Scent is a huge memory trigger for me, as it is for many people. I travel a lot, so I have a shelf full of these perfumes I wear whenever I want to take myself back to where I was. To this day, a whiff of Clinique Happy reminds me of the first glimpse I saw of Italy as the plane descended, and of so many other things. This is just my random travel trip! It's not a necessity by any means, but it is my favorite.
