I was sooooo excited I squealed and clapped! Thank God - that was so overdue.

I didn't even think about Karen. I was too busy squee-ing at the outcome.

Ryan getting the job was just fan-freaking-tastic. What a genius plot twist to have Ryan, Michael's man-crush, end up working over Michael.

I guess the writers figured out that they couldn't top last year's cliffhanger, so they may as well end things on a straightforward note. Yeah, there are still questions (like, how will Karen react?) but it's nowhere near the intensity of last year.

It was at the very end. David Wallace was on the phone telling someone they had the job. Then they showed Ryan on the phone saying I'm excited too (cause he got it!). Then he said to Kelly (without even turning to face her), you and I are done. The show ended with her shocked face. :)

What a fabulous ending. :) I loved Jim driving all the way back to Scranton for Pam. I loved the way he walked in, the way he asked her, and the look on her face. Wonderful!

The writers set up a lot fun stuff for next year: how is Karen going to react? Will she quit? What will happen with Jim and Pam? Is Jan really going to live with Michael, and how will that work out now that we know she's kind of nuts? It should be fun to watch Ryan be the boss, too. What a surprise that was! :D

One thing I love about this show - they are so creative with camera angles, lighting and make-up: Did anyone notice that Pam's make-up was different than usual? Just like Angela in the episode where Dwight drives to NY for her, I swear that Jenna Fisher was made-up differently. Aside from all the confidence she was exuding, her "talking head" scenes were brighter and she looked more awake and less burdened in general. (I also think the camera angles and wardrobe intentionally made Karen seem frumpy.)

I LOVE that they made Pam OK in this episode. Better than OK. She didn't mope around at the prospect of Jim leaving, she didn't let anyone make her feel down about her beach confession, she had fun at Dwight's expense all on her own - they let us believe that was really on an up note, and then when Jim asked her out, that was just the icing on the cake.

I agree that the writers set up a lot of stuff for next year, and they really didn't need a cliff-hanger. I guess it's possible that things are set up so that Karen can either come back or not, depending on what Rashida Jones has going on. Karen did say something about not being able to go back to Scranton. (That's when Jim said he'd move if she got the job, and since she said she'd move if he got it, she went to lunch with her friends thinking either way, she was moving to NY. Ouch.)

Yes, definitely! Her makeup was perfect last night. I thought she looked really, really pretty. Sometimes she looks kind of dull and you can see the lines on her face.

I LOVED this episode! Everything about it was great! Of course, the last couple minutes were the best, though. The look on Pam's face after Jim left the room was priceless-such a look of shock and elation!

Now my big concern is where we'll pick up in the season premiere. I really want to see the Jim/Pam relationship from the start, not just jump in after they've been dating for a couple months. I know that some time passage is probably necessary to move the other storylines ahead, but I will feel really ripped off if we miss all of the nervousness and uncertainty of their first weeks of dating. I'm just afraid they're going to jump ahead like 1-2 months and try to placate us with a couple of back scenes of their dates, or them talking about it.

I want to see it unfold! We've earned that. :)

So, so good! :D "Squee!" is exactly how I would describe my reaction last night.

At first I was surprised and shocked that they ended it that way, but I'll bet the writers decided that the season cliffhanger, "will they or won't they" was Ross and Racheled to death. I'm so glad they went this direction with it.

And the Kelly/Ryan ending was hilarious. Too funny.

I'm still grinning ear to ear over last night's episode. From Creed's blog to Jan's enhancement ("just say 'I want to squeeze them' - it's code, she'll know what it means") to Jan's breakdown (stretch pants??) to JAM goodness ("it's a date") to Dwight's ridiculousness ("what's the ratio of Stanley nickels to Schrute bucks?") right down to the big twist at the end, the entire episode was just comedic gold. Loved it.

Hilarious. When I realized Jan got her boobs done, I almost peed my pants laughing. I can't wait to see what happens with Jim and Pam! I was hoping for something more dramatic between them. Maybe a kiss, a confession of feelings, but at least a date is in the right direction.

I saw the boobs and thought that Jan was pregnant. Kept waiting for her to say that when she and Michael were in the office.

I loved the episode for so many reasons:

~Big Haircut
~Schrute bucks vs. Stanley nickels
~Ryan getting the job (we're over)
~It's a date
~Creed's blog/word document
~Kevin's Pam v. Karen assignment

So many fantastic moments. Truly what a season finale should be.

~Creed's blog
~Ration of Shrute Bucks to Stanley Nickels
~Pam being "Secret Assistant to the Assistant Regional Manager"
~Dwight being his own assistant
~Ryan getting the job
~"Big Haircut"
~Dwight's dream job in Hell :D

This show is brilliant and so creatively written.

Not sure if anyone's heard, but Jenna Fischer (Pam) apparently fell down some marble stairs and broke four bones in her back. Having a much lesser back injury, I can't imagine it only taking 6 weeks to heal. Ouch!

My favorite part of the episode (besides the Ryan, You and I are Done part)

Dwight: Welcome to the Hotel Hell. Check in time is now, check out time is never.

Jim: Does my room have cable?

Dwight: No. And the sheets are made of fire.

Jim: Can I change rooms?

Dwight: Sorry we're all booked up. Hell convention in town.

Jim: Can I have a late checkout?

Dwight: I'll have to talk to the manager.

Jim: You're not the manager even in your own fantasy?

Dwight: I'm the owner. The co-owner. With Satan!

Jim: Okay, just so I understand it. In your wildest fantasy you are in Hell and you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil?

Dwight: Yeah, but I haven't told you my salary yet.

Jim: Go.

Dwight: Eighty thousand dollars a year.

That movie looks terrible, but, I've been planning on seeing it since I first heard about it last summer. I refer to it as "The Jim Movie".

It's coming out on the same day as Transformers. DH and I have been having a little "disagreement" about which one we're going to see. I think the solution is that he'll go see it with some guys and the wives and I will go see The Jim Movie.

The trailers for License to Wed look awful! How did this happen? Can't this guy write his own ticket at this point? Maybe the chance to act with Robin Williams is just not something a young comic actor passes up. It looks like just another sophomoric "look at meeeeeeee!" vehicle for Robin Williams, though. Too bad.

I read an interview where he basically said that at this point in his career (or when he actually signed on to do the movie) he really could not pass on a big studio movie where he is the lead. I'm sure Robin Williams had something to do with it as well.

I don't think anyone wants to work with Robin Williams these day. He hasn't been funny in a long time.

John Krasinski isn't at a point where he can write his own ticket. He's a TV star, not a movie star-- he's not in the big time yet at all. Honestly, from his point of view... why not take this role? He's early in his career, it's good exposure, I'm sure it's good money, he could fit it in on his hiatus from The Office. But I hope that in the future he'll consider better roles more than the money. It's hard to do, but he'll have more longevity if he does.

John Krasinski isn't at a point where he can write his own ticket. He's a TV star, not a movie star-- he's not in the big time yet at all.I would think his "star power" (yes TV - not movie) was at the point where he might consider holding out for something even marginally better for a movie. His co-stars on the office didn't do drivel. When Steve Carell made the leap from TV to big screen he didn't do drivel. Why should Krasinski?

ETA: I should clarify that things like "big time" aren't really relevant to me; I'm not big into pop culture, but even I can see how popular/likable and talented he is. And that typically translates to bankable, no?

Rosebud, do you have any idea how much money the actors on The Office make per episode? I'm just curious.

I don't know-- I'm sure I could look up some info in old issues of Variety, but I'm just too lazy. :p Totally guessing, I'd say that John Krasinksi and Jenna Fischer might make $200-250k an episode at this point. It's a successful show, they've renegotiated salaries by now I'm sure. Carrell should make more. Maybe as much as $450-500k? This is total guesswork, though.

I think (hope!) that Leatherheads with George Clooney will turn out to be John's first big successful movie.

Me too! I really hope that turns out well.

I would think his "star power" (yes TV - not movie) was at the point where he might consider holding out for something even marginally better for a movie.

Steve Carell has been around a long time and had the kind of relationships coming out of The Daily Show where he was able to develop projects with people he knew and be a little more choosy about his film roles in the beginning. John is younger and newer. And there's totally nothing wrong with him doing a part just for the money at this point-- lots of TV stars do that in the beginning and I'm sure he'll get other offers for better material.

The reason I say he's not big time/bankable at this point is simply that he's unproven in films, which are a different beast than TV. Film people aren't sure how many butts he'll put in seats, you know? For instance, the stars of Friends were super popular on TV, but not all of them were able to cross over to film successfully. If License to Wed opens well and makes money, then he'll get offered more parts and command more money for sure. And then he can be more choosy about what he does, as well.

I hope that makes sense at all. There are actually people on this board who are way more qualified to discuss this stuff than me & maybe they'll chime in. :)

Rosebud
06-27-2007, 08:35 PM
I actually may have totally overestimated on those salaries. Just found a report saying that Carell's salary was $175k per episode in 2006. It'd be in the 200s now, but that's a lot less than I was thinking. I'm surprised, actually.

jrdhbunny
06-27-2007, 09:35 PM
JK also wants to be able to do his own stuff (like Brief Interviews with Hideous Men) and I think the money from a film like this would help him get there. And he has already done a few "quality" pictures, like Dreamgirls and Kinsey, albeit with much smaller roles.

I love him and all, but I'm not sure I'll be able to sit through License to Wed. I'm with Rosebud on the DVD marathon! :D And of course watching the last few minutes of the season 3 finale another 20 times. :p

It's funny that you mention that - I read a review of LTW online that compared John to Matthew Perry (and basically said he is not going to be a movie star). Personally, I think John is way more talented than Matthew Perry though and I think that once more people get to know him he will be considered more "bankable". I still think of The Office as kind of a cult hit.

I'm also really, really hoping that he gets nominated for an Emmy this year. (along with Steve Carell and Jenna Fischer).

I'm not a industry insider either but from what I see once a young actor start turning down work, especially a big budget movie, because it's beneath him that's the kiss of death for their career. There are thousands of actors behind him that will be willing to take that role. Also lots of actor's careers have been launched by idiotic films.

Someone forwarded me this article today and it made me think of this thread...

9 Reasons Why “The Office’s” John Krasinski Would Choose to Star in a Robin Williams Movie (http://suicidegirls.com/news/celeb/21830/)

John Krasinski is a super-talented, hilarious actor at probably the peak of his career. He stars on an ultra-funny, critically acclaimed NBC sitcom. The one that isn’t "30 Rock." He’s also quite the looker, if the majority of women in this country are to be believed.

I state all this to show that John has his pick of just about any project on Earth… and yet, here he is, risking it all to star in a Robin William’s movie. License To Wed will do more harm to the institution of marriage than any 50 gay unions. (Cue Robin William’s gay voice) Oh, and if you’re in a fight with your eyes and ears, be sure to check out the trailer.

This choice is mind-bogglingly hard to fathom. And so, I’m examining every possible angle, no matter how preposterous, in order to get to the bottom of his decision. I will also post odds on each potential reason. (read full list by clicking link above)

Rosebud- Thanks for posting that- so funny!

Don't let the new commercial fool you, the critics are most definitely NOT loving the film. It got a 10% positive rating on rottentomatoes.com and the reviews are savage. I did just figure out another reason why our boy John may have done it- the director, Ken Kwapis, is one of the directors from The Office, which also explains the cameos by some of the other Office cast members.

I went to a baseball game with DH last night and he said since I went with him and really didn't want to go, he'll go see License to Wed with me this weekend. I had sort of given up on going since the reviews were so bad, but I guess I should take advantage of my DH being willing to take me to see my tv boyfriend for a couple hours! I told him there is 1 rule - no complaining about how bad it is during the movie.

I saw LTW today and lived to tell the tale. Actually, it wasn't as bad as I'd thought it would be. I probably liked it more than I should have because I'm a shameless John Krasinski fangirl, but, it wasn't as terrible as I'd feared.

It definitely wasn't what one would call a "film"; it was a movie. A fluffy, silly movie that was perfect for a Sunday matinee. We went with friends and the boys saw Transformers and the girls saw License to Wed. We were the only women under 50 in the theatre without a SO in tow. Apparently JK is hot with the grandma set! Who knew?
