Thanks to all for the Pam/Jim/Karen recap from Thursday. I'm sorry I missed it!
Chicksinger--great recap of the goings on at DM. I have to say that some episodes are definitely funnier than others, and sometimes there are one or two great moments in an episode and the rest of it is just ok. But, I find that the great moments are really that! :)

Kelly's Girl I would recommend that you RUN (don't walk ;) ) to the nearest video store and rent The Office Season One. I think there were only something like 8-10 episodes on the Season One dvds. If you watch this disc (and listen to the cast commentary which is by far the best part of the dvds) you will be mostly caught up without having to slog through Season 2. (which has many more episodes to watch.)
If you want immediate gratification, you can also download some episodes from Itunes for .99 cents an episode. I did this in the beginning to catch up on some episodes I had missed. :)

I loved when Michael went to Staples to get Dwigit.

I was totally cracking up at Ryan's face as he put the lemonade on the table, and then at the sign that said "Spanish lemonade". :D
I loved Michael going into Staples to get Dwight, and Dwight saying "I don't want to do your laundry anymore." :p
Andy is acting just like Dwight but for some reason Dwight is loveable and Andy is just annoying!
For me it's because Andy is taking on the characteristics of Michael (to the extreme), while kissing ass like Dwight. And like Michael said "I don't want somebody sucking up to me because they think I am going to help their career. I want them sucking up to me because they genuinely love me." :D

I was in Hawaii and Todd accidentally deleted the recording !!!!! He gave a recap and just from that I was LMAO. This is the best show!
That phone prank sounded HILARIOUS. Rockin' Robin... HA HA HA HA

And Michael's quote at the end: "I don't want somebody sucking up to to me because they think I'm going to help their career. I want them sucking up to me bacause they genuinely love me." ITA--maybe that's why I can't get ahead at work--I won't suck up to people just because they can help my career. I refuse to be that fake.

Freaking brilliant, brilliant episode! I love that the Karen-Pam-Jim triangle is going to continue. I wonder if she will actually hook up with one of Ryan's friends?
And holy crap, even though they showed almost none of it, I love Ryan and Kelly's ridiculous relationship!

Sooo many great moments last night! :D
~Michael telling his "son" how to jump start a car and Dwight shaking his head no
~Dwight in a bra
~Michael not knowing the meaning of primae noctis
~Ben Franklin, and Dwight being 99% sure he's not the real one
~"An hour-long shower with guys"
~All the blurred out portions of the sex store and Ryan's comments about Michael
~Michael on the George Forman grill - "I got all the foot off" - HEE!
This show is brilliant!
I thought for sure that Jim and Karen were going to break up after she learned he still had feelings for Pam, so I was surprised last night to see them together. I wonder how they're going to play all this out, and if Roy is going to admit to Pam that he misses her.

I loved when Michael was making that videotape and showing his future son how to jumpstart a car. Then Dwight looked into the camera and just shook his head no.
I thought it was hilarious when Dwight told the stripper to answer the phone. "We paid you for 3 hours of work." Hehe.
The best part was when Michael was saying he'd love his son no matter what.
Dwight - "What if he's a murderer?"
Michael - "He won't be a murderer."
Dwight - "Maybe that's how you die."
*giggle*
I was happy to have the old Dwight back. Without Andy there, Dwight's character got to shine again.
Question: I can't remember if Andy got fired or if he quit . . . ?

I also agree, not the best episode, but still good.
What was Michael saying at the end when he took that sex toy to Ryan and started playing with it? Todd and I kept rewinding to try to figure that out and all I could make out was waaa waaaa. LOL

Tonight's episode was so FUNNY. Perhaps the funniest of the season so far. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! Michael quoting Princess Bride, Kelly in the white dress and tiara, Ryan whacking the bouquet away from her, the Pavlov's Dog experiment with Dwight and the Altoids...
I'm definitely buying this episode off of iTunes so I can watch it over and over.

Ryan whacking the bouquet away from her, Yeah, that was great. The funniest bits on The Office are the ones that happen so fast, you'd miss them if you're not paying attention.
I thought Michael was over the top in this episode. I found myself thinking that even he wouldn't be that idiotic.

Michael was definitely cringe-worthy this episode. I agree that it was a little too much. I was loving all the Jammyness of this episode.
Did anyone catch that Stanley was giving them a toaster? Probably the toaster he'd given Pam and Roy that they returned, causing him to lament the fact that he had two toasters at his house. It's the little things like that that I love so much about this show.

Yeah, Michael was making me cringe as well, but I was still laughing. And I loved when Kevin said "We're missing Uncle Al. He's old and has dementia." and then broke into Roxanne. :D Also, how great is it that his band only plays Police songs? LOL!

I thought last night's episode was soooo funny! I was laughing my ass off when Michael was dragging the wheelchair down the aisle. In fact, I'm laughing right now just thinking about it. :o
I also thought it was hilarious during the vows when the preacher said "Do you Bob Vance, of Vance Refrigeration, take Phyllis..." I love how they always refer to him that way.

I do think that Michael's behavior often goes past cringe-worthy and into "Oh, come on!" territory. But I tend to look beyond those moments, though, and still appreciate the rest of the show. Not to mention that other times, his behavior is SO realistic for someone like him. He's just so needy and self-centered. And I love the fact that they've given him depth by making him a great salesman, and also making you feel sorry for him every now and then. He's not just a jackass, but a jackass with feelings. :)
But ignoring those Michael moments in this past episode, I haven't laughed that hard at an episode in months! I just love the subtleties.

I think the only part that I thought was totally unrealistic was the speech when he was arguing with Bob Vance. Also, the last few episodes Michael was kind of subdued, so I thought last week he was back to his old self.

The big question from last night... why didn't Jim show up at Pam's art show?! I kept waiting for him to turn up. I can't imagine that he wouldn't go, even though she's back with Roy.
I did get a little teary eyed during the scene with Pam and Michael at the end, though.
Okay, so I get it.... Roy is nice to Pam now, but he still doesn't "get" her. That's how they'll break them up later.
Jim pretending to be a vampire was completely hilarious. The little skits he and Karen were doing were fantastic.
diam124
02-16-2007, 10:12 AM
The first deleted scene is up on NBC's website, and it pretty strongly implies that Karen had something to do with Jim not going to the show.
I definitely think that Pam is starting to see that she was unhappy with Roy for reasons unrelated to Jim. I thought it was funny that he showed up with his brother and then they left without her. Remember last season (I think) when they were discussing worst dates and Pam said Roy and his brother left her somewhere (can't remember where) on their first date?

This was classic Office in that by the end, you get to see Michael prove or redeem himself. (Although I loved that they couldn't let that scene end tenderly: "Do you have something in your pocket?" "Chunky." And then he pulls out a Chunky candy bar.)
Poor Roy: "Your art was the prettiest art of all the art." He's trying so hard!

As for the episode, I loved how Michael redeemed himself, both with Ryan/business class and with Pam. To me there is absolutely no excuse for Jim not to go to the art show, unless of course he didn't know about it, which is highly unlikely. Even with the deleted scene, the flyer was still up in the break room at the end of the day. I'm not sure I even like Jim's character anymore.

I seriously think this episode was one of the best ever!
*Dwight's quote about 'not' being an idiot! LOL
*Michael moving Ryan next to Kelly as his punishment! (proves that Michael acutally knows a little more about what's going on the office than we think he does :) )
*LOVED when Michael was berating Ryan's class and he said "You sit up here in your Ivory Tower," (and then he looks at Ryan's professor) "And your Ebony Tower." LOL!
*The whole thing about the bat flying around the office and Stanley just getting up and leaving "I'm outta here." heh Also when Kelly is yelling 'dont kill the bat, bats have feelings too" and then it gets loose and flys at her and she's yelling 'kill it! kill it!" LOL
*When Dwight goes to Creed and asks him if he has the tools to make a stake out of a broom handle and Creed pulls them out of his drawer!! hee!
Seriously - and the end - when Michael sees Pam's use of all of that PAPER!
Just loved it. From start to finish - loved. it. :)

I thought that first too, but when I watched it again I thought he seemed annoyed.
Yes, Roy did attack Jim physically in the first season when he thought he was getting a little too touchy-feely with Pam. I think he was under so much stress trying to keep up this facade so he could win back Pam and when he found out about Jim, he just snapped. I'm just glad he didn't grab her or hit her or something because that would have been a little too dark, IMO.
Did anyone watch the British series? Does anyone else think (in white) that they're going to follow the British storyline and fire Michael? And then offer the job to Jim only to have him turn it down? I wonder if that's what will cause the demise of Jim and Karen, because I think she's very ambitious and wants both of them to move up the corporate ladder together. Or perhaps Jan will quit/be fired and they'll tap Karen for promotion. Hmmmm...
I loved when Dwight was in the little boy's room and kept asking him questions that the little boy didn't know the answer to. "What *do* you know?"

Holy cow! I just saw a picture of Karen, from the office, with Quincy Jones at the Oscars. I had NO idea the actress is his daughter, Rashida. Was that common knowledge and I just missed it?
suzubeane
02-26-2007, 05:48 AM
It's fairly common knowledge, bunny. Her mom is Peggy Lipton of Mod Squad fame. (I posted her pic in no. 441 (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1107097&postcount=441))
Rahsida Jones played one of the school secretaries on "Boston Public" - that's when I first discovered who her parents are.

Well, I wasn't aware of that, (I didn't watch Boston Public) how interesting. That reminds me of the comment Michael made when he first met her, something like, "Wow, you are very exotic looking. Was your dad a G.I., or … ?"

There is a teaser promo on YouTube (click Here) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-5sB6WtFe4&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fedep%2Elivejournal%2Ecom%2Ffrien ds%3Fskip%3D15) - It is about 4 minute long and covers the whole Jim-Pam-Karen-Roy situation. PLUS there are some new scenes in the last 20 seconds.

I thought there were a lot of funny moments in this episode - the woman's suit thing was hilarious. And I love Michael/Toby interaction - "what are you writing perveball?"

Ok, so I was the only one seriously bothered by the Jim-Pam scene? Maybe it's cause I'm tired and just started AF, but I cried for quite a while after that scene. I hated how Jim acted, and it makes it hard for me to like him now. I"d like to see Pam hook up with someone other than Jim, to be honest. Maybe Ryan can introduce her to a hot friend of his.
Everything else was hilarious! Such a funny episode. I loved it.

I think Jim was really hurt when Pam & Roy got back together. Remember in The Return how they seemed to be really bonding again and Jim even admitted his feelings to Karen. I think he was allowing himself to fall back into the whole adoring Pam mode. Then I think he was crushed when she got back with Roy at Phyliss' wedding. I think he'll come around. ;)
I thought Jim acted understandably but still he acted like a jerk. He doesn't really have a right to be mad at Pam for dating anyone since he has a girlfriend. I think he wanted to hurt her on purpose because she hurt him unintentionally. I loved the moment Jim told Pam he was in love with her but realistically Pam couldn't have left Roy after 9 years at that moment.
That said, he wouldn't have been so mean if he was over her.
suzubeane
04-06-2007, 03:15 PM
In the breakroom scene between Pam and Jim, I would have liked to see her protest when he said (twice!) that Pam and Roy would probably get back together. At the time, I thought it was kind of a nasty thing to say (was he suggesting that a thuggy guy with a violent temper was the best she could do?) but now I wonder if it was written that way to show us that Jim thinks of Pam as unattainable.

Natasha
04-06-2007, 06:18 PM
Suzubeane, that's what bothered me the most. I felt that way, like he was saying Roy and Pam should be together, and Pam would end up with him again, since she can't do any better. I do understand why he's upset, but I just feel like he went from being a nice guy, to such a creep. I guess the most frustrating part is we know how both of them feel, but neither of them do. The scene really got to me though, and I was even in kind of a bad mood about it today..:o . Maybe I need a life? :p
Diam124 and Rose, I agree with you both. I know where his bitterness is coming from, but Pam doesn't, you know? I also agree that it was so unrealistic to expect Pam to just run off with Jim at Casino Night. I feel like he has been really unfair in his expectations. And, I feel bad for Karen. Ugh, I feel like he is just being a dumb, skeevy guy. He was never that before, and that's why I like him so much! Ick, that really bugged me, too.
If someone's crazy ex came at you, you'd be pissed too! lol
I do agree with this, but I feel like he slammed Pam pretty hard, and when Roy apologized to him, he didn't say anything. Took it all cool, like it was no big deal. That seems wimpy and creepy to me. Being really hurtful to Pam, but letting Roy off the hook like it doesn't matter, we're guys, we're cool.
Ok, I am obviously seriously over thinking this... Yeesh!

I didn't like Thursday's episode at all. Maybe it's because of where I'm from but Jim came off like a total puss. Buying things for Dwight because he pepper sprayed Roy. Big deal, Roy wanted to beat your @ss. Deal with it like a grown man...

I think he was saying she'll get back with him because that's what she's done before.
If I were Jim I'd be pretty dissapointed in general. He told Pam he loved her, she was with Roy (a jerk) but he moved on. Then he found a nice girl but still had feelings for Pam. Then Pam up and gets back with Roy again and suddenly they are back in love. Then they break up, again, and he comes to kick Jim's ass. I'd have the same attitude. You'll just end up back with him anyway. Why bother.

Oh, I agree Rachelle. I really do see where Jim is coming from. But, I hate the way he is handling it all. They had that great phone call in the episode where Dwight takes Ryan o his first sales call. They talked and talked, and really connected. He could have asked her out or something then. He didn't. I feel like he let her slip through his fingers, and is taking it out on her. And i agree with july19! I miss them interacting!

PG-rated
04-07-2007, 11:41 PM
I felt like Jim said that to Pam as a self-defense mechanism, like he couldn't afford to hope that she was done with Roy for good because it would hurt him too much if they got back together. So he was actively expecting the worst, KWIM?

I just had to share this with some other Office fans:
My DH (who looks a LOT like Jim. It's been confirmed by many people) has an annoying co-worker named Drew. Last night, I offered DH $5 if he'd call his coworker Andy today, a la Jim refusing to call Andy Drew.
He just sent me an IM telling me that he's been calling the guy Andy all day. It is all I can do to not bust out laughing at my desk (shared office, co-worker wouldn't get what is funny)

My two favorite lines were:
Creed: The only difference between me and a homeless man is this job. I will do whatever it takes to survive. Like I did … when I was a homeless man.
and
Michael: No, no, I need two men on this. That’s what she said. No time! But she did. NO TIME!
I love all of the "that's what she said" lines :D And Dwight being Jim was almost as funny as Jim being Dwight. I love the funny faces Dwight was making at the camera when he was being Jim. Hysterical!

I just noticed this thread - I love the Office! The week before I delivered my son I went to the mall as I was craving some crepes from a place there. As I pulled into the lot, I noticed that the Expectant Mother spaces were taken up by film crew trucks. I was kind of PO'd because it's a common occurance in our area - crew trucks taking up parking, blocking off streets. Some show films weekly in a house on my block and it just gets annoying dealing with all of that. In addition, I am makeup artist and have worked for a few years in television & film. Needless to say, I am rarely star-struck. Anyway, I found a parking space and went into the mall and who do I see 50 feet in front of me? Steve Carrell and all the women of The Office! I was so excited! They were filming in the food court so I got my crepe and watched them film the scene. They had extras walking in and out of the scene but they let all the mall patrons come and go as they pleased while they filmed. I have never been so excited to see something filmed!
dollface that scene was for Women's Appreciation which I think is the next episode. They also make a trip into Victorias Secret.

catch--I LOVED the "that's what she said" struggle!
On a side note, i work part time as a waitress. I was training a new server, and we had a table of 4 teenage boys and one of the boy's dad. She was trying to learn how to take difficult orders, and she said "I've had easy orders all day, so make it as hard as you can." One of the teenage boys said "that's what she said" under his breath and I nearly died. It was really hard to keep from bursting out laughing, it was hilarious!

Yes. Jim caught it too, he gives a look to the camera.

The episode was funny! Creed is too funny and I hope they have him on more!! "If that's flashing then lock me up!"
My DH and I didn't follow the whole email conversation that Jim and Ryan had in the bathroom? Was it about Pam, Karen or someone else? I just didn't follow it. And ideas?

july19 - Jim said that he and Karen were celebrating their 6mo dating anniversary. Then Ryan said he didn't know they were an item - just messing around, basically. Then he said that if Karen ever mentioned it, to disregard the email he (Ryan) sent to Karen about dating him (Ryan). Then Jim said Karen had read it to him and that Karen wasn't really that into office romances anyway.

I definitely was LOL at most of last night's episode. :)
Angela: "Phyllis...you are a married woman!" after she got flashed. Like she can help that! ;)
The guys hanging out in the ladies' bathroom all day.
Michael making the list of pros/cons for staying with Jan: "I'm unhappy when I'm with her."
Jan offering Michael $300 to drive up and sleep with her.
Michael having absolutely no clue how to change a tire and Pam doing it for him.
Angela having to shop for clothes at the doll store.
Dwight sending out the memo regarding the new dress code for the female employees: "But no one dresses like that"...camera pans over to Angela. :D

I'm glad I watched Kelly jumping up and down over the underwear a few times yesterday because my TiVo bit the dust last night (thank you, lightning). One of the funniest things I've seen in awhile.
I totally think that Karen and Pam were discussing their own relationships. Karen definitely gave Pam a dirty look at one point.

I love Pam using her bathrobe when she changed the tire, and also saying she needed hand towels so she would cut it up LOL!!

Don't forget the way Jim commented on Pam's drawing of Dwight (I can't think of the exact words) but the way he said it seemed to say that he missed Pam and all the fun they had together.

During the hot dog eating contest, when Michael told the group that he had an interview, Jim gave a look to the camera. Not a smart-ass look like usual. It was more of an "oh-oh" look. I think it was that David had already invited him to interview.
I didn't feel that HE made the phone call requesting to be interviewed, but that he was just responding to the invitation.

I didn't feel that HE made the phone call requesting to be interviewed, but that he was just responding to the invitation.Oh, that's interesting. I had not considered that possibility. Either way, I got the impression that Karen was asking to be considered.
Regardless, what made Jim a jerk was that he was purposely trying to trip up his girlfriend when she was on the phone about a potential promotion.
That said, what I do like about the Karen/Jim dynamic is that she seems to like that part of his personality. He lead her right into the water during the blindfolded egg walk and she didn't get mad.
Yeah, it appears they are setting things up so that Karen will get the job and leave, and things will be awkward for a while between Pam and Jim. But it could go a completely different way because this show is typically not that predictable.

Spoiler alert ~ I read yesterday that they filmed 2 endings. One where Jim and Pam wind up together and one where he stays with Karen. It all hinders on a pilot that (the actress who portrays Karen) filmed for ABC. If it gets picked up, Karen will head to NYC for the corporate job.

Fabulous episode - FABULOUS!
I loved Pam getting that nerve up - when she crossed the coals it was like a whole new Pam and I loved it! Especially after all the crap that Michael made her do all day long - nice to see her standing up for herself.
The scene with Oscar saying Angela told him he could "cross over" had my in tears. I seriously have no laughed that hard in a long time - I had to rewind it and watch it! That and Michael complaining that Andy was missing with him floating along in the background - this show is so subtle and perfect. LOVE IT!
And I agree with PP, Jim didn't make the call, the CFO called him. In my mind, he and Karen both got voice mails on their office phones that they checked from the beach and then called back when they were together to confirm with the CFO.

I really hate how much Michael hates Toby. I know it's because he's in HR and he tries to keep him in check, but sometimes he's just SO mean. I was watching some old episodes the other night and the Christmas one was on where Michael takes Toby's robe away. Poor Toby. He really gets dumped on and sometimes it's just not funny. :(

Loved the ep! I'll throw my two cents in about the interview situation- I agree with PPs that Jim and Karen were both called about the invterview.
Regardless, what made Jim a jerk was that he was purposely trying to trip up his girlfriend when she was on the phone about a potential promotion.
I agree, but I think they're trying to highlight that Jim still does not take the whole job thing very seriously. And I wonder how closely they're going to mirror the British version as far as the promotion storyline goes.
Re: the spoilers- There's a lot of stuff going around, but I think Karen will be the one to get the promotion. TPTB had a chance to make her a regular along with Ed Helms (Andy/Drew) and they didn't. Now, having said that, I could see them keeping her on as a guest star; while Jim and Pam renew their friendship, Jim tries a long distance thing with Karen. I truly do not see Jim taking the job in NYC (although I do think it will be offered to him). To be honest, I would be ok with that- I am totally on Team Pam, but I just want them to be close again. There's also some rumored big stuff going down with Jan and Michael.

Re: Spoiler ...
" ... I could see them keeping her on as a guest star; while Jim and Pam renew their friendship, Jim tries a long distance thing with Karen."
I wondered about this. I think Pam's speech was timed by the writers to give Jim a reason to want to stay. He might turn down the job and let Karen think she was the first choice.
/spoiler
Does anyone else think that the corporate job that's up for grabs is Jan's?I wondered that - she was supposed to have been "out of town."
The only thing I didn't like about Pam's speech was that she said she'd called off her wedding for Jim. In the past, she's been pretty clear that she did not. Yes, she went on to say that she should not have been with Roy, and there were other reasons. But I liked it better when Jim was just a factor in her decision. Made her seem stronger.

I dunno if her feelings for Jim are what caused her to call it off. I thought she said because of him, not for him. I thought it was more like, if she could kiss jim, she shouldn't get married.
