I actually started feeling bad for Michael when no one showed up to his party. Me too. :(

Great episode. Loved it. I love this show. :)

The look on Jim's face when he saw the 'hooker' and began running down the hall was totally priceless!!! LOVE THIS SHOW!

How about when Michael said "To me, friendship is hanging out and talking, to Jim it's spending all his time with ~Josh~"

Me thinks that Michael goes back to Scranton and totally interferes with the Jim and Pam thing, (of course trying to 'help') now that Jim has 'fessed up as to why he transferred. :)

"I love inside jokes! I hope to be in on one someday."

Bwah ha!

That and the hooker line, had to be the best lines out of the show.

I just got hooked on it this year after my SIL made me watch a few episodes at the end of last season.

I almost felt bad for Michael that no one showed up to his party, but then I remembered he had on his white "party jeans" and I didn't feel too bad anymore.

Love this show! And I love the fact that Dwight calls Angela "Monkey".

The black light in the hotel room in the very final scene had DH and I absolutely ROLLING. That, and Jim's line about the hooker, were fantastic.

I felt bad for Michael too. Especially when he paced in the hallway a bit. Poor guy - he tries way too hard and, at the same time, has an inflated sense of self. How sad... he's never been "in" on an inside joke. ;)

I loved the party jeans. :)

Question: Did Michael really work up a deal with Hammermill to sell their paper? If he did, it would fit with what we typically see from him: General cluelessness with punctuated by occasional accomplishments that answer any questions over why he gets to keep his job. (Anyone remember last season's cheesy slide show at the regional meeting followed by a report that showed his the accounting numbers he was supposed to have presented in the first place? Also, didn't he succuessfully woo some big account by becomeing the Rep's drinking buddy the first time Jan came to Scranton after her divorce?)

OMG - that's right - he took him to Chili's or Fridays or some chain restaurant like that and they got the Bloomin Onion or something!!!

I think he did do the deal because then didn't those guys show up to his "party"?

I think Michael really did get the deal with Hammermill. I've always gotten that Michael was a hell of a salesman, who kept getting promoted, because he was so good at sales. But, success at sales != success at managing. When Dwight won that award in season 2, Michael talked about the times he won the award.

And, yeah, he won a huge account for DM when they met at Chillis. He's a great salesman, just an inept manager.

Michael is irritating as a manager, but, deep down, he's not a bad guy. I really like how they've layered the character and made him more real than just a one-note irritating manager type. He tries to be funny to compensate for his insecurities. It's a really real, relatable character on a lot of levels.

I thought it was really interesting how Jim was acting with Josh. I could tell he wanted to fit in, laughing at the inside joke with him, dressing like him, etc. But, as soon as Jim saw how it hurt Michael, he quickly changed the topic.

Jim is just the consummate nice guy. He confided in Michael again, which wasn't the best idea, but he did it so as to let Michael know he didn't transfer because of him. Seeing how Jim reacted when he heard about Pam's date was so sad. Not as sad as the deleted scene from season 2 where Jim is eating lunch in his car because Roy came up to eat lunch with Pam, but, still, John Krasinski does those "sad little boy" looks so well. Makes you want to give him a big hug...amongst other things (but only after the "little boy" look is gone...kwim?) ;)

My favorite moment of this episode was the look on Jim's face when Michael held up the phone and said, "Say hi to Pam!" I don't think they'll get together, at least not before the final episode. It's just too deliciously uncomfortable to have them apart.

Amy? I thought her name was Kelly? Anyway, did you notice that she wasn't nearly as obnoxious in the first season? I don't think they expected any character-development for her because she was one of the scriptwriters, just kind of filing space for the background. Same thing goes for "Toby" who has never acted before. I believe that BJ Novak also writes, but he was always intended for the Ryan role.

The actress who plays Phylis was the casting director and got cast after the production team liked the way she read with the potential cast members.

It's one of the things I like about this show - the actors/actresses are believable as real people, and many of them never intended to act in the first place!

ITA about the 'cast.' I also like how when they have 'group shots' they actually add in people from their accounting office and managerial offices. Real business people are interjected into these episodes all of the time :)

Amy? I thought her name was Kelly? Mindy Kaling's character in The 40 Year Old Virgin was named Amy. I'd assume that led to the mix-up.

I get sad when Michael is super pathetic. When no one showed for his party, it was almost as bad as on Take Your Daughter to Work Day when he showed the tape of him being a pathetic little boy on that children's show.

Creed said in one of his talking heads that he's only got a 90 second attention span, because he burned his brain in the 60s. There was another talking head where he talked about calling everyone "Ace" because he didn't know anyone's names.

He did call Angela "Andrea". It's really funny that he introduced himself to Meredith, because he said in "Conflict Resolution" that he was "Tired of looking at the redhead" (Meredith).

Last night's episode was weird. Not quite the usual non-stop laughs. I thought the overall happenings were hilarious (stupid Dwight, Jim's office's war game), but it didn't keep the same pace as usual. And Michael was very different. I wonder if someone different wrote this episode.

I agree but I was cracking up at the "Dr. Krentist" reference. I don't know why because it was so dumb but I couldn't stop laughing.

ETA - DH just gave me a strange look at the end of the show when they showed Jim leaving his office and talking to his new co-worker. He asked what that was all about. I told him she so obviously has a crush on Jim. DH just doesn't get non-verbal communication.

I like the little romantic spark happening with Jim and his new co-worker. It will add a little wrinkle....

All in all, not the BEST episode, but still good. On the other hand, I thought My Name is Earl was particularly good last night.

ITA. I was complaining to DH last night that I didn't get to see enough of my TV boyfriend.

I know it's not the JAM show, but I miss Jim interacting with the Scranton branch in general. I've accidentally read some spoilers and apparently there will be a branch merger of some sort in Episode 8. So, we might get some JAMmy goodness shortly.

I had to laugh at the "teambuilding exercise" bit. DH's office really does this - some afternoons they'll just stop working at 4pm and play Counterstrike. Art imitates life, I guess.

Jim playing the war game totally made me laugh because I saw myself in his situation.

When I was in college, I had a bunch of guy friends who would all play this James Bond Nintendo game, where you could play with 4 people at once and just ran around shooting each other. Sometimes they would let me play, and I pretty much played just like Jim. :o I would choose which gun to use based on if I liked the sound it made when it was shot, and I would run all around and get lost and not know where anyone else was...then someone would sneak up on me and pick me off because I was such and easy target and wouldn't see it coming. But I still had fun.

I liked the thing with Pam and Kelly and the "fashinon show! fashion show! fashion show at lunch!". And then Pam's ex walking in. And Creed coming over to stare at Pam.

I think they were trying to do a lot in this show with character development and setting up some conflicts that can be built on for future episodes.

I LOVED last night's episode! The stuff with Jim in Stamford isn't great, but I absolutely love watching Dwight and Angela together. And I really liked how Michael handled the whole situation - at first I thought it was out of character for him to keep quiet and try to manipulate the situation, but I changed my mind when I realized he was trying to guilt Dwight into a confession. Ok - how can you possible choose your favorite line from last night? HILARIOUS episode. So sweet as well when Pam figured out that Michael was really worried about dying alone, and this is what the whole hysteria over Ed Truck and the dead bird was about.

Anyhow- ok- my favorite moment of the show.. (I may not have this verbatim, but I'm trying to remember as best I can)

I think last night's episode was the best of the season.

It was strange to see Jim flirting with another girl, but, as someone pointed out on another message board, he was just trying to recreate what he had with Pam. Remember in "The Fight" Jim left a bag of Sun Chips on Pam's desk. In this episode he left the salt and vinegar chips on Karen's desk. I think he's trying to move on, even though he's not "over" Pam yet.

I thought that Pam was really sweet. And I, too, am not thrilled w/the Jim flirting w/another girl thing, but can you blame him? He's just trying to move on. The other girl is nowhere near as awesome as Pam, though.

And do you guys think that the Pam and Roy relationship might be rekindled? I hope not, even though his character is more sympathetic this season.

I suspect that the reason they have Jim flirting with the girl at the other branch is that it makes sense to have him dating someone else when he comes back. It happens so often that a show jumps the shark after a big couple gets together. I guess I can understand why they would want to postpone that.

I loved it when Pam asked Michael to "go to the warehouse" to get her coffee. With cream and sugar? Bwah!

ITA! My DH and I were discussing this last night (sad, I know!) and he thinks they will have the Scranton and Stamford branches merge, bringing Jim back to Scranton, along with some of the other Stamford people, including Karen. That is something that happened on the British version (the merging of two offices), so it doesn't seem totally out there to me. And it would be the perfect way to get Jim back in the office with the added bonus of the tension that would inevitably result if he is dating someone else within the group when he returns.

majorgal
10-15-2006, 07:31 AM
I love where they are going with the Jim-Karen-Pam triangle. Throw Roy in the mix and you have some good tension happening. They can't put Pam and Jim together right away, and this is a plausible way to keep the sexual tension--and viewer interest--up. And I agree with mayiko...no one can deny the JimLove!!
~~~~~~~~~~~
I think the thing about the Jim-Pam thing is that I would venture most of us have had one of those really, really good office flirtations. I know I did. We were both involved (happily) with other people, but we both clicked and the sparring we had really helped make the drudgery of work fun. When I see the Jim-Pam thing, or, now the Jim-Karen thing, it brings back happy memories.
I loved the phone call between Pam & Jim. They have so much more chemistry together than Roy/Pam or Karen/Jim, even if they don't get together for a while.
Ryan is so funny! With Jim not getting as much screen time it's nice to have him get some more.
Besides being hilarious, this show's character development is so clever - almost like the peeling of an onion.
Two things that you almost could have missed: The recognition in Ryan's eyes when Dwight told him "your problem is you think you know everything already."
And the fact that Michael - once again - proved why he still has his job. He may be totally clueless, and everyone's nightmare of a boss, but occasionally, his style inexplicably closes some pretty hefty deals. I just think it's so smart to write him that way, otherwise, there'd be no believability as to why he's in that position.
ITA. Remember at the retreat when he said that he'd closed a deal w/Hammermill? That was a big deal, and I think it will come back at some point in the season. Michael's not a good manager, but he *is* a good salesman.
I agree with what everyone has been posting about Michael. If you buy the 'Season Compliations' at the store, you get the 'cast commentaries.' In some of them, the other cast members, directors, producers, etc. talk about the Michael character. It is mentioned that Michael was a darn good salesman and then he was elevated to a postion that he's just not really cut out for. As bad of a boss he is, he's still (apparently) a darn good salesman and I too love the way that they keep reminding us of that. :)
Unfortunately this happens in the business world all the time. Someone is really good at their job and gets promoted manager and he or she was no clue how to manage. At least Michael seems to care about is employees and he does not intend to be a jerk.
Loved the fact Stanley smiled and was excited.
kd, it was something with the guy who he kept calling and talking to in the Bill Cosby/Fat Albert voice. The viewers didn't really know until the end that a.) he had closed it or b.) it was big. Pam commented on that fact. It was pretty easy to miss, like a lot of his bigger accomplishments. They're all presented in a very matter-of-fact way, and just pale in comparison to how cringe-worthy his behavior is the rest of the time!
OT: A Steve Carell movie is filming in Rhode Island, and today they are in my neighborhood. We have a bakery that was converted from a period (art deco) service station, and there's a film crew there right now, according to my husband who just ran by there on his morning run. Not sure if their just getting establishing shots, or if they're filming inside. Here's a picture of the bakery (http://www.sevenstarsbakery.com/images/storefront.jpg); apparently they're calling it "Yum's" for the movie.
The movie is called "Dan in Real Life." Here's a link (http://www.projo.com/cgi-bin/bi/gold_print.cgi) to an article about it from my local paper. (IIRC, you don't need to register for the site for the section I linked.)
We have a pretty active film commission here, so for a non-New York, non-Hollywood location, we do tend to get a lot of movies and television shows filming here. This one seems to be using local talent, though - I bummed because they were looking for kids to have speaking roles as Steve Carell's nieces and nephews, and I missed the casting call - I would have definitely taken my 10 year-old daughter!
diam124
10-25-2006, 06:54 AM
That's funny - Steve Carell was in Charlottesville, VA this past Spring filming Evan Almighty. Up until we moved a year ago I worked for a local apartment complex there and apparently quite a bit of the crew from the movie rented furnished apartments at the complex. I think word around town was that Steve was a pretty nice guy.
Is it a new episode this week? I'll have to check the NBC website.
DH and I love watching The Office together every week! Love it! However, I'm not loving this season as much yet. I think mainly with Jim & Pam apart and the offices split it's not as funny. The past couple of episodes there's just not as much interaction between all the characters. I hope this improves with time as I still love the show!
Oh, Michael... *sigh*
In this episode, there was a moment where I really kind of liked him. He embraced the holiday, he's dancing at the party, everyone's having a great time... and he goes and does something idiotic, like proposing to Carol in front of a big group of people. That was painful.
Drunk Jim was pretty hilarious. I want him to come back to Scranton, though!
What was Carol's reaction to the proposal?
She asked to speak with him in private, and then when they got outside, she said that she was going home and that he could find a ride with someone else. Then he said something about leaving with her and that he has "this book called the Kama Sutra"...he just does not know when to stop! So she left without him and he went back into the party...Pam ended up giving him a ride home.
As stupid as it was for Michael to propose I think he did a great job at it. I felt bad for him when she turned him down. What I thought was the worst moment was when Michael tried to kiss Pam. Ughh.
I like Karen, I like Pam. But we all know they aren't going to let Jim and Pam get together till the series is over so we'll just have to deal. If he can't be with Pam I'm glad he's with Karen, much more so than that girl who sold purses.
diam124
Yeah, the purse girl was really annoying. But it was so obvious that he dated her "just because" (probably mostly because of Roy's comment about her and to make Pam a little jealous). If he starts dating Karen it will be because he really does like her. :( Poor Pam would be crushed.
I'm going to post this in white even though it doesn't really seem to be a secret. This is from Jenna's (Pam's) MySpace blog:
Finally, you MUST catch our show this Thursday night. I’ve already seen it and it is THE BEST ONE we’ve ever done. I’m not kidding. It is called “Branch Closing”. Michael finds out that the Scraton branch is being shut down. He and Dwight go to New York to try and save the branch. The stuff they do together is the absolute funniest thing ever on our show. And also the most touching. Meanwhile, the folks at Stamford find out they have to absorb the Scranton folks. The entire episode is amazing. I can’t wait for you to see it. And…as if it couldn’t get better…Pam has a new hairstyle again. I won’t tell you what it is. I’ll let you be surprised.
"So do you guys have the type of marriage that when the man dies, the wife had to throw herself onto a burning fire or something?"
I don't think that's the verbatim quote, but he said something close to that. Hilarious! I was laughing so loud that DH came in from the other room to see what was going on! :)
Last night's episode rocked! So funny! DH and I rewound it in so many places to keep watching parts!
The "future faxes" were hilarious and such a classic Jim prank! I also really liked the end where Karen came right out and said that she liked Jim. I haven't been too sure what I thought of her yet, but I liked that they went a different way with it. In the past Jim & Pam have always been very coy in their interviews and stuff about how they felt about each other besides being friends, so I liked that they just had Karen come right out and say that she liked him. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I'll bet Karen & Pam end up being friends with each other or something after the initial awkwardness. Pam usually is very friendly with everyone, so I imagine she'll do the same knowing Karen's coming into a new place without knowing anyone.
I wonder how Dwight will react to Jim being over him now (I assume w/ Jim being the #2 guy in the office that'll somehow make him Dwight's boss or superior).
I think it was at the very beginning. Jim took some of Dwight's stationary with him and sometimes sends Dwight faxes from himself, from the future, like don't drink the coffee because somebody poisoned it.
NBC.com has a producer's version of this episode online. It's even funnier.
Yeah - what she said. lol . The sequence was before the opening credits. Jim is standing in the Stanford office using the fax machine. The girl (his new potential love interest) walks in. She says 'Who are you faxing?" Jim waits a second and then just says "A little too hard to explain."
Then we go to a Jim 'talking head' where Jim explains that before he left Scranton, he took a bunch of Dwight's stationary. From time to time, he faxes Dwight notes, from himself - the 'future Dwight' :D
The next scene you see is Dwight, standing by the fax machine. Jim's voice comes in as the 'reader' of the fax. The fax says "Dwight, someone is going to poison the coffee this morning at 8:40 am, do not drink the coffee, do not drink the coffee! - Future Dwight." Then you see Dwight turn and look at Stanley who is holding a coffee cup (having just come from the break room.) Dwight runs full speed at Stanley and knocks the cup out of his hand, spilling coffee everywhere. Stanley has no idea what's going on. :D
Hmm ... never occurred to me that Jim might be making it up.
That said, DAMN. Wish Karen wasn't so likable and didn't seem like such a good match for Jim. Gotta hand it to the writers. Most shows that set up a love triangle make one person seem like an obviously wrong choice. These writers are smarter than that - They're really playing us!
On a related note, I read somewhere that John Krasinski had attended Brown, and I was curious about some of the other actors'/writers'. Turns out many of them are no slouches either! Rainn Wilson attended Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. B.J. Novak graduated from Harvard, as did Rashida Jones. Mindy Kaling went to Dartmouth College.
Weird thing about tonights episode was the Staples shredder product placement, though.
Well it just seemed like they weren't really acting like a couple and Jim seemed kind of annoyed that Pam didn't have a bigger reaction to him saying that. Although Jim hardly seems like the type to play games, I think he was trying to test the waters with Pam.
There wasn't a lot of great Jim/Pam interaction this week but I guess that was on purpose to show that they're not really on the same page right now.
I am so this show's b*tch!!
I think Jim's statement at the end is either a) Jim and Karen had started dating in between "Branch Closing" and "The Merger" or b) he knew he was going to hook up with her after Coopers (hee! that was where my wedding rehearsal dinner was held!!). I thought his reaction to Pam's was odd though, I mean, what did he expect from her? A declaration of undying love? Of course she was going to protect herself and say they were just friends. And I'm surprised that he would even want more from her; he is moving on, after all. Their interactions in this episode broke my heart, but I wouldn't have it any other way!! Angst is good!
I agree the Staples thing was kind of weird.
I'll third that. It reminded me of the Apprentice when they would base the show around a product and advertise it during the show. I actually think it was Staples then too! Didn't they (the teams) create some kind of desk organizer that was advertised during the show? Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I saw a Staples commercial for that exact shredder during the show(I was skipping through the commercials, but caught part of this one).
Other than that I loved it! It made me laugh when Kelly was giving Jim the update on TomKat and Brangelina, and when he asked "what's new with you?" she said "I just told you!".
Agree with this--although, it seems like when Jim got the call from Karen to hook up at Coopers, he then saw Pam walking through the parking lot and probably thought Oh crap, I told her I was too busy to meet up for coffee, and now I'm meeting Karen for drinks. I think in a way, telling Pam he was "sort of seeing someone" was a way to cover his ass.
Maybe, but it has been 6+ months. It's sort of unreasonable for her to expect him to pine after her that long. Yeah, he loved/loves her. But, he got shot down pretty hard. As Pam, you sort of have to expect him to move on. Not that I want him too, mind you! I know they'll get together eventually... But, she has to get her heart broken, too. It's good TV!
Yup! I just hope they don't end up like David & Maddie on Moonlighting. That kind of fell flat after a while.
OK....this is a bit of a hijack, but we had some time management training the other day, which I posted about in my journal. After reading it, I realized that it sounded EXACTLY like something that would happen on The Office! Maybe I should email this to the exec. producer. :)
Just going to snip a bit of this from my journal entry. All identifying details have been changed.
OK. Let's talk about yesterday's training. Oh.my.God. do we have some mental midgets in our other offices. Three offices from our region were at the training; my office, hell office where I worked for 2 years, and also a third office in our region. (For clarity's sake, we'll call my office Office A, hell office will be Office B, and the third one, Office C--obviously I don't want to list names in a public journal!)
Just to provide some background here, I worked in Office A from 1995 to 2003, when I (foolishly) requested a transfer to Office B because it was geographically closer to my home, when I moved. It was AWFUL. I ended up transferring back to Office A at the beginning of 2005. Never should have left there in the first place.
The rumor all these years has been that while Office B sucks, Office C is 1000 times worse. And having worked in Office B, and finding it to SUCK DONKEY BALLS, I couldn't imagine anything WORSE than Office B.
Then I met some of the people from Office C. One of them is in her EIGHTIES. I am serious. Retire already! She was spitting venom and vitriol everywhere, looking down her nose on all the young'uns (which was pretty much everyone in the room). The trainer was actually pretty cool, and I don't know how she kept it together with some of these people TOTALLY derailing her training by turning it into a bitch session of Why Our Jobs Suck, and They Are Asking Me To Do Too Much. And these people were griping with their managers SITTING RIGHT THERE. (side note: my supervisor was conspicuously absent from the training; supervisors were 'encouraged' to attend, and our supervisor's the only one who DIDN'T go. Oops).
There was one activity where we had to list general tasks we must accomplish in the office on a daily basis, and prioritize the list. Offices B & C broke it down into ridiculous minutiae. For example, closing out cases/mailing decisions. In my opinion, listing JUST that--closing out cases/mailing decisions, well that's the task listed, and it's pretty self explanatory. But no, people had to whine how HARD it is! And LIST EVERY SINGLE STEP! "You have to print out the TRANSMITTAL FORM, then you have to MAKE COPIES, and then you have to PUT IT IN AN ENVELOPE and PUT A STAMP ON IT!" WAAAAHHHHHHHH! And they seriously expected the instructor to list all this shit on her little chart. Come ON, people. No wonder production sucks in those offices, if they overanalyze details, instead of SUCKING IT UP and DOING THEIR JOBS.
There was some other woman who was missing a gross of brain cells, or something. After the previous exercise, we had to list 'time wasters', things like interruptions from co-workers, procrastinating, stuff like that. We listed stuff, discussed the results, and then the trainer asked us to brainstorm on strategies we could implement to reduce time wasters. This one woman trumpeted "Personal phone calls!" Trainer replies, "That's not the question I asked, we already covered our list of time wasters. Can you think of ways to deal with time wasters?" The woman replies again, "Personal phone calls!" This exchange went on in this fashion, ad infinitum, and I had to run to the ladies' room because I was trying very hard not to laugh out loud.
Next, we had to break into groups, by counting off by threes. Trainer says "We'll start with you, Chuck!" to some knucklehead from Office B. "One, two, three!" chirps Chuck. There are no words....
Oh yeah, on the time wasters topic; someone from Office B said "smoking breaks" can be considered a time waster. Which didn't sit well with ANOTHER woman from Office B, who takes, oh...probably 6 smoke breaks a day. Even though she claims she takes 'one' 15 minute break a day. Uh huh. Anyway, this woman starts yelling, "Oh no you DIDN'T! That's my 15 minute break, don't you go there! Don't you attack us smokers! It's DISCRIMINATION! It's DISCRIMINATION!"
I swear, this all REALLY DID HAPPEN. Oh yeah, and there was one person who wandered away during lunch, and never came back to the training. :rolleyes:
Dementors! Oh dear God, I could NOT stop laughing!
Ok, so Karen is necessary and whatever. But, I personally think he should have told Karen about his old feelings for Pam And I am soooooo ready for her to go!
Dementors!
Oh, imagirliegirl, you missed the funniest thing! The baby is all dressed in pink, and Pam says "what a cute little girl!", and the lady says "he's a boy". Pam says "oh, I'm sorry. But, he's dressed all in pink," and the lady says "well, it's his favorite color."! So funny!
Disclaimer: I analyze this show way too much!
Yay - JAM is totally back! Even though she had a sad look at the beginning you can totally tell that Pam knows that Jim cannot resist joking around with her.
So, do you think that Jim didn't want Karen to get in on the joke with Pam because he doesn't want them to get to know each other (and Karen might see the chemistry between them) OR he doesn't want Pam to feel like Karen is picking on her? The look Jim had on his face when he turned around after Andy patted him on the back was priceless!
I think it almost had Jenna Fisher on the floor, too. She looked like she was fighting the laughter pretty hard!
Even though I know it's a TV show, I just cringe at some of the things that Michael does in the office. He's so misguided and clueless (but means well) that I have to cover my eyes but still peek through my fingers. "Prison Mike" is a perfect example!
I think my favorite line was, when the lady with the baby said "pink is his favorite color" Pam responded "how fun for him."
I get the feeling that she's going to be the next one to leave. She seems the type to be easily offended.
At first, I thought Jim was being a jerk by having Andy go after Pam, but then I realized it was back to their old pranks. I think that he didn't want Karen to be in on it because it's already going to be awkward enough between Karen and Pam - he didn't want to give Pam any more reason to hate Karen.
I hate that it's going to be a rerun next week. But, the week after that - an HOUR long Christmas special! Eeee!
I had to work last night and didn't get to see it. Was the Pink Baby's mother the one who was pumping breastmilk at her desk in a previous episode? I thought she quit after the orientation.
The look Jim had on his face when he turned around after Andy patted him on the back was priceless!
That must be the moment Jenna mentioned on her My Space blog. She said there was a "Jim face" that was so touching (during an early screening), that even the guys watching were swooning.
Yep, it was Hannah with the baby. And I also thought she quit during the last episode but I guess not!
To answer my own question, I think Jim is such a sweet guy that he thinks it would be cruel for Karen to get in on the Pam prank.
I think that Jim just didn't want to share that Jim/Pam stuff with Karen.
I agree with this. I think it was just because he wanted to keep it a Jim/Pam thing. Wanted to keep it sacred, so to speak.
suzubeane
12-02-2006, 05:25 AM
Looking back at it, I think Jim left Karen out of the joke because he thought of it as a joke between Pam and himself on Andy. Instead he wanted Karen to believe it was a joke ON Pam - not WITH Pam.
But while I was watching the show, it wasn't clear to me if Pam even knew that Jim had put Andy up to all that stuff. I kept expecting it to backfire - that she'd end up angry with Jim for interfering in her social life considering he's seeing someone now.
I also didn't think Martin would quit. After Pam commented to "Prison Mike" that it must have been hard for him re-live his prison days, she turned to Martin and said something like "It must have been hard for you, too ..." And I thought "Chemistry! She'll get pissed at Jim about Andy, and go out for drinks after work with Martin!" But then of course he was leaving for good in the next scene.
Brad's at work today so I have my Office season 2 DVD's running. Suddenly I realized that I feel SO bad for Michael. He tries so hard and he just screws up everything. Watching him is so painful because he really has no clue about anything.
Prison Mike had me LMAO last night.
I almost fell off the couch. I was like, no way is he going there...but he did.
OMG and then when he said "why does the convict have to be the black guy". It reminded me of the diversity episode where he asked Oscar if there was something less offensive than "Mexican" he wanted to be called. He is so clueless.
I had to work last night and didn't get to see it. Was the Pink Baby's mother the one who was pumping breastmilk at her desk in a previous episode? I thought she quit after the orientation.
My favorite part of the episode was when Oscar shows up to the party with his partner, stops for a beat in the doorway, says "too soon" and turns around and leaves. Hilarious.
I was hoping for more Jim/Pam love... but I did like the conversation Jim had with Michael about rebounds, and how it really just makes you think about the person you really love. The one who broke your heart. And clearly he was talking about himself.
It's also true of BJ Novak - he was a writer on the show prior, and the person who plays Phyllis was a casting assistant. I think it's why this show works so well at times. Same with Mindy Kaling. Phyllis was a fluke like Toby. I don't know where I read this, but we must have read the same thing - she was reading lines with actors who were auditioning, and she got a part herself. :)
I felt bad for Pam, but at the same time I can't feel too sorry for her. If she has feelings for Jim, she ought to come clean about it! Regardless of what happened before and Karen and anything else... she ought to tell Jim how she feels.
I also felt bad for Pam but she shouldn't have helped Jim and Karen make up! Does anyone read Jenna's (Pam) Myspace blog? Pam's crying made me so sad. For some reason, I really relate with her. I would do something exactly like she did with Jim-Karen, trying to be nice and repair the friendship with Jim. I think she was crying out of not just sadness, but out of frustration with her life, with herself. Per Jim, it's been a month that he's been dating Karen. For someone like Pam who's not terribly proactive, a month isn't much time to get up the courage to lay it on the line for Jim. Plus, I don't think she anticipated Jim being with someone when he got back - that really threw her for a loop which probably made her feel even more stuck, like she couldn't say anything. On some level, she cares enough about Jim to want him to be happy, and she sees not rocking the boat with him and Karen as helping Jim be happy. I guess I see Pam's personality and actions as less disingenuous as others do, and the separation between her and Jim seems more realistic than if she made some grand confession after only a month.
tonights episode was a nice mixture of seriousness and funny. I cant believe that Dwight consoled poor Pam (his PMSing comment was indeed humorous), and the whole drama with Michael and Pam was great. The opening was the true highlight however, as the entire office joined in on mocking Dwight (I felt a bit sorry for him there heh), ending with Andys laughless joke that was completely out of place. Oh and I think that the whole Karen living near Jim thing is another example of how the relationship seems to be resting on weak ground at times.
I love this show but haven't been watching recently. I can't wait to get into it again!
Yeah, it seems like that's where this is all heading...
I feel a little bad for Roy. On the British series, that character was a total jerk/loser who was easy to hate. Roy isn't so bad. He's a bit of a tool, but he clearly cares about Pam. I think I'd like Pam less if she got back together with him and then left him again.
Yeah... Roy is really making an effort to be a more considerate, better person. He seems to appreciate everything Pam did for him.
I kind of like him this season. :(
Who watched tonight :D?! I loved it when Jim slapped Dwight in the face, hilarious! It was also nice to see Angela smile for once.
I've got to come out of the closet, I LOVE this show, I am obsessed . I have had Jim/Pam dreams before. I need help, I even bought DH a Dwight bubblehead. That being said, last nights episode was hilarious. Harvey the computer made me crack up when he said "boob". I loved the pairing of Stanley and Ryan and how Stanley mocked him on the way back. What is going to happen with Dwight, he can't leave. Did you see Angela's face at the end. I'd hate to get on her bad side.
I loved it when Jim slapped Dwight in the face, hilarious! I rarely laugh out loud when watching TV, but this was played so well (didn't see it coming) I could not stop laughing!
It was interesting to me that the Jim/Dwight pairing gave the writers a way to show a bit about their history. Not just that Jim clearly knew about Dwight's way of ... um ... psyching himself up in the car, but the whole way they double teamed that sale with the phone call to the big box store, etc. We've never seen them as a well-oiled machine.
Did anyone think that they changed up Angela's hair and make-up in the middle of the show just to make her seem more approachable? Or was that all acting/facial expressions, etc?
I loved last night's episode. Phyllis and Karen's makeovers had be doubled over. Even better was Jim's wide-eyed expression - ever so briefly - when he turned around and saw Karen. That was hilarious.
I was so happy for Angela because she was so happy. I love the interaction between Angela and Dwight. Her face at the end - whew.
Also loved Dwight and Jim on their sales call. It was fantastic.
There is no way that Michael can run the office without Dwight. I think he's beginning to see what a manipulative suck-up Andy is. I think Michael will miss Dwight and there will be a hilarious "I was just in the neighborhood" apology.
Last night was my favorite episode in a long time. I loved seeing how they all sell in different ways.
We had to rewind the slap a couple of times. Too funny!
Andy is jerk. Now I like Dwight.
Stanley mimicking Ryan: Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. You sounded like my six month old niece!
I agree, I loved seeing how each "team" sold too. Especially Jim/Dwight.
I feel so bad for Dwight and I really hate Andy. Even back when I didn't like Dwight he still didn't annoy me as much as Andy. At least I could laugh at him, Andy's not even funny!
We all know how loyal Dwight is, but I couldn't believe that he actually let his loyalty get in the way of the job that he absolutely loves. I guess he just loves Angela that much more than working at Dundler/Mifflin.
The whole Dwight/Jim sales team was priceless, too. Interesting that Jim wanted to trade partners before they set out, but they clearly work well together.
I thought Jim & Dwight were especially funny together in this episode. Jim stopping short and Dwight hitting the headrest had me cracking up, as did the old photo of them together.
I was a little surprised when Jim denied the Pam crush at first. I think this is going to cause problems because Karen is going to be paying more attention to Jim & Pam when they're together.
How could I forget? I love when Jim dials Dundler Mifflin customer service line in the sales meeting and then hangs up on Kelly when she's mid-sentence.
No, I was thinking the same thing, that they prettied her up. But I was given the impression it was to show her happiness.
I loved watching all the pairs on their sales calls. Jim and Dwight worked really well together, and I loved when Jim hung up on Kellie. Stanley was cracking me up with his mocking of Ryan, and Karen and Phyllis' makeovers were priceless!
I at first thought that Michael was going to clue in to what Andy was trying to do, so I was somewhat disappointed that he was manipulated so easily, especially when he saw what a suck up he was at the sales call. Although Andy is a jerk, I did love his Oompa Loompa song, but watch out Andy, Angela is out for blood! :p
Poor Dwight. I wonder how that will play out.
I loved that, too, and I love it even more now that I got some backstory on it. In Jenna's My Space blog, she mentioned that John Sparano, the prop guy for The Office, has a My Space page (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=102409815) now. He writes all about who built/found the props, stuff that broke while shooting, and different locations that they used. I just read this on his page today:The phone call that Jim makes to Kelly at the office was an actual phone call to Mindy in her office back at the set.
Just when I think this show cannot get any funnier!
Stanley laughing at Ryan had me cracking up! It was nice to see the 'real' Stanley come out! Ryan looked like he was a chicken in a fox's den when he was talking to those businessmen! Ha! :)
Love the Jim/Kelly phone call! Love the Dwight/Jim team, and loved the Oompa Loompa song, just loved this episode. Oh and Karen/Phyliss's makeovers were so great! ha!
Jim - Want to play a prank on Andy?
Ryan - No, but ask me again ten years ago.
The "Producer's Cut" of the episode will be up on NBC.com sometime soon, so you can watch the whole episode. It wont' be exactly what aired tonight - it'll probably be better :)
Long story short, Jim wants to prank Andy, and asks Karen, who declines, and ends up doing it with Pam. Karen notices Pam and Jim's, well, Jammyness and asks if he still has feelings for Pam, and Jim says "yes".
I was so excited when Jim admitted his feelings - I made DH rewind it so I could watch it again!
I also was cracking up over Ryan and the lemonade. There was something about his expression that was hilarious.
I wonder where Jam is going to go from here. I'm sure they're not going to get together right away, so will it be that Pam is seeing someone else? I know Karen is on for at least one more episode but I have a feeling that will be it for her.
