It is getting much better, thank goodness!
I really like how the writers are giving the characters a sense of humor with some funny lines now. ie, Mimi said the other day while having it out with Belle something about how could she do that to a "one legged army soldier?".
I love Jen and Frankie and I'm so sad she's leaving. :( Where's Abbey going to go?

Don't think it's a spoiler.... It's been fairly well broadcast that Missy Reeves is leaving the show :(
Although I do have a spoiler: Rumor mill says that Carrie will soon be PG with Austin's baby. Like we didn't see that one coming!

My opinion: I think it's fine to discuss the episode on the same day it is aired. We west coasters have to decide if we want to look at the thread before or after we've seen the episode.
Re: the Melissa Reeves thing. Sorry to keep harping on it, but it was a spoiler for me. If it hasn't been said/done on the show, it's a spoiler. I don't read soap opera web sites or magazines. I only know what happens on the show. So if they haven't said on the show that she's leaving, then it's considered a spoiler.

ok, I get your point. Fair enough I suppose. I'm not sure if you frequent this thread often, I'm guessing maybe not every day or you would've read about our somewhat recent discussion about Melissa leaving...but I wouldn't go back and read anything before this week so you don't know who might be coming/going on the show. ;) :D

I'm completely torn on whether or not discussing show happenings is 'fair' to those that don't want to know.
Up to this point (1005 posts) the thread has been conducted in a way that some things like comings and goings were more or less openly discussed and no one has had an objection until now.
Whereas actual storyline spoilers have been posted in white. Melissa Reeves leaving the show, to me, doesn't ruin the storyline because we have no idea how how her character is leaving OR IF! Heck they could bring in a totally new actress and draw out the Jack, Frankie, Jennifer storyline until we are blue in the face. But, i could see how that would potentially ruin it for someone that watches the show without any preconceived notions.
Honestly, i'd prefer things to remain the same however if everyone else wants to take a majority vote then that is fine by me too. I can totally see both sides of the coin.
What does everyone else think?

My vote is that comings and goings are not spoilers. Talking about Missy Reeves leaving, IMO, is the same as talking about the head writer getting replacesd.
Only information about story lines themselves are spoilers.

I come to this thread FOR the spoilers, so I guess my opinion may be a bit different! I am a west coaster, and if I didn't want to know what happened today, I'd stay away at least until my show aired (true for any thread about any TV show for that matter!)
But, I'll go with whatever the majority thinks! :)

Well, I personally wish the shows wouldn't be discussed until everyone has had a chance to watch them, but then I realized that I would have to wait for Hawaiians to watch it, and I realized that the east coasters must feel the same frustration, waiting for west coasters, that I felt just *thinking* about Hawaiians. :p
I don't look at soap opera mags, I don't really look at those websites (as helpful as they are!), so someone mentioning that someone is leaving *is* a bit of a spoiler for me, but then, sometimes it's just negotiations and doesn't actually happen, and sometimes they just recast and it doesn't make much difference to the storyline at all, so ultimately I don't mind.
But I think one thing we DO have to watch out for is *quoting* people who have done spoilers in white. I have only seen this happen once, and no one said anything at the time, but I saw someone use the quote function on something someone had written in white, and since the quote goes on a field of a color other than white, it showed up right there, no getting away from it. So even though it's not common, and even though I personally didn't mind what was revealed, we have to be careful! :D

....blah blah blah, was posted in white, now look how you can't look away....
OK it's not as obvious as it once was. Guess those changes they made to the boards helped here! ;) But still, it's more obvious than intended, yes?

You could totally see the carrie preggo story a mile away! I really think it was crappy of Austin to rush to get married just to try and get over her in the first place.

I must say I have very high hopes for the Steve/Kayla memory erase storyline. Now that Steve and Bo are on the case together it could be really interesting if it's written well. Let's keep our fingers crossed. I think the show could really use a little caper/mystery/puzzle sort of element, and that's a good place to insert it I think. I do, however, want to punch Della in the neck everytime she opens her mouth. I hope she isn't going to be a recurring character-- she's a terrible actress!

Yeah, but in soap land all these people seem to be able to fly from one side of town to the other in less than a second, so I think they could do it from one state to another too. :rolleyes:

Personally, I'm not at all sad about cutting Austin and Carrie - they brought nothing new to the table - it was like watching re-runs of 1995 (or whatever year they were on) :rolleyes:

re: spoiler.........I am so over the dream sequence. I just hope they dont blow the file off as a mistake b/c they never remember sleeping together, I could see the writers have the characters find out but dismiss it! Same thing when they cast Kyle Brandt as the new Phillip. He was HORRIFIC! But has definitely gotten better during his time at DOOL. Still not a incredible actor...but way better than he used to be!
Now Austin and Patrick on the other man...eeeek....they are downright painful to watch. No amount of experience or training will make them any better!:rolleyes: :p

New spoilers lifted from TWOP (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=165519&st=28785) the site recaps this weeks TV Guide interview with the new head writer - all I have to say is... "YES!!! It's about time!" :D
Sheffer says he plans to "bring back the heart and soul of Days and return to a show about families and high romantic stakes. We're moving away from the absurd and into something deeper and real." Some things mentioned include Bo & Hope getting back together, but not before Hope nearly meets her demise thanks to Chelsea. Bonnie having an unparalleled position of power when she ends up owning Victor's grandchild. Patch, Kayla, John and Marlena will be part of a huge group story, with Marlena moving from prepetual victim to heroine. Sami will also being growing up, he says she will also become a heroine by making the ultimate sacrifice for love and his instruction to the writing team was to make Sami & Lucas Nick and Nora Charles. The best part though regarding the male characters: "They have become incredibly weak and stupid" Sheffer States. "I want them to get back their penises!" It confirms that Frankie, Carrie, Austin, Jack and Patrick have been fired and Jenn, Mimi, Philip and Shawn are leaving.

Julie Pinson (Billie) and Billy Warlock (Frankie) renewed their romance while working on "Days of our Lives" and plan to marry later this month.

Same thing when they cast Kyle Brandt as the new Phillip. He was HORRIFIC! But has definitely gotten better during his time at DOOL. Still not a incredible actor...but way better than he used to be!
Now Austin and Patrick on the other man...eeeek....they are downright painful to watch. No amount of experience or training will make them any better!:rolleyes: :p

John/Marlena: They are going to face a big crisis that will challenge them and will test Marlena. Marlena loses John and does not know how to get him back
Bo/Hope: They will find their way back to each other. but danger is lurking over them that they are not aware of
Sami/Lucas/EJ/Austin/Carrie: Carrie/Austin will tie the knot and leave salem. They are having a happy ending.(In the Coming and Going section it says they will last air in October) Sami is going to find out her involvement with EJ has put a whole bunch of people in danger, and its going to be in her hand to save lives. I am so irritated with everyone being so concerned about Carrie's feelings. Um, Sami was missing and it's HER wedding day and they are all basically telling Carrie to steal Austin away.
(Note, I DO want Sami and Lucas back together....I read the spoilers and am happy it will happen...but I am APPAULED! Does ANYONE on ANY soap consider marriage and relationships sacred?
Of course, I want (sorry, just lost my train of thought, since the even more ridiculous Passions is on, but they KNOW they are ridiculous, and just pulled the "The role of so-and-so will be played by so-and-so" HA! LOVE how they blatantly make fun of soaps!) Who do I want...oh, yeah, Belle and Shawn, but that'll never end up happening.

I've never been a fan of his looks, but when I look at old pictures, when he was setting his face into that "smell the fart" look, I can see that he was once attractive...but now he just seems so plastic.

Turns out, the second time is the charm for Days of Our Lives costars Billy Warlock and Julie Pinson.
The two were married in Las Vegas Saturday after being engaged twice, their rep has confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE. The intimate ceremony was attended by family and close friends.
The couple were originally set to marry in 1999, but broke off their engagement shortly before the wedding. They rekindled their romance last year when Warlock's character, Frankie Brady, returned to the NBC soap, on which Pinson has played Billie Reed since 2004.
At Saturday's wedding, the bride, 38, wore the original dress she had bought seven years earlier, an ivory duchess satin Vera Wang gown with pink details. The groom, 45, wore a black suit by Canali.
Warlock, who also played A.J. Quartermaine on ABC's General Hospital for several years, was previously married to All My Children actress Marcy BaywatchWalker and was briefly engaged to his costar Erika Eleniak.

In the current week's TV Guide (week of August 28th) there is an interview with the new head writer Hogan Sheffer in which he details his plans to revamp the show, including spoilers for almost every major couple. In next week's issue (week of September 4th) there is another interview in which he reveals the mother of all spoilers: EJ is not only a DiMera but is also the mastermind of the gloved one schemes! It remains to be seen how this will all work out. This week's issue is on stands now, next week's issue is arriving to subscribers now. Both issues are packed with spoiler goodness, so check them out!
Since the introduction of EJ fans have speculated that he was a DiMera, believing him to either be Stefano's son Benji or Stefano and Susan's son "Little Elvis."
Some background info: Benji is the little deaf boy Steve and Kayla took in shortly after they were wed. They later learned he was Stefano's son. Benji was sent off to live with his grandfather Orion in an unknown location. Benji's mother was dead.
"Little Elvis" is Susan's son with Stefano, though she thought Elvis was the father thanks to Stefano's trickery. This is the child Kristen was going to try and pass off as John's son, having stole him from Susan. "Little Elvis" is believed to have been living with Susan and Edmund Crumb in England. Kristen attempted to send Susan off to an island where she would have been enslaved, but Susan tricked her at the last minute and it was Kristen who was taken to the slave island. Susan pretended to be Kristen to fool Stefano and take off with "Little Elvis."

Secondly, Does anyone else think that Carrie will get pregnant with Austin's child? The day they slept together, she was told she had cystic ovaries and probably won't conceive on her own. So my thinking is she didn't bother with protection (although do they ever???)...and we will find out she is pregnant soon.

I just wanted to say that I'm so happy with the way things are moving so quickly now.
And technically, even though Roman didn't find anything on the disk, Kate admitted she bribed Eve, so Roman can tell that to Hope backing up Bo's story. I am so happy that pig nose Kate is finally getting caught on stuff.
The coming attractions at the end today were sweet. I do hope Bo arrests Chelsea. Every time I see her I just want to jump into the screen and smack her. The writers need to have Chelsea get what's coming to her.
Now if only Passions can follow suit.

Just to cover my derriere with devotees of NBC's Days of our Lives, I started this Soaps News blog posting with an obligatory note of caution.
By now, though, it must be obvious to even the most casual viewer that EJ Wells (James Scott) is the spooky skulker who's been causing chaos in Salem.
C'mon. Every time Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) wonders aloud who could be blackmailing her, the camera cuts to EJ pulling one of his mysterious, meaningful looks. Hel-lo? The hints are hardly subtle, kids.
Per TV Guide's Sept. 4 issue, Days will reveal in mid-fall that EJ is the Gloved One, and that he's in criminal cahoots with Patrick Lockhart (Brody Hutzler). This answers the "Is Patrick still an evil mercenary or isn't he?" question once and for all, paving the way for Hutzler's exit from Days. (He's among the many cast casualties of the show's budget cuts.)
Oh, and TV Guide also confirms that EJ is a member of the devious DiMera family.
I knew it! Now, this part is just my own speculation: I think EJ is Elvis, the long-lost son of Stefano DiMera and Susan Banks, the goofy look-alike of Kristen (Eileen Davidson).
Longtime Days viewers will recall that Stefano drugged Susan, dressed himself up as her idol, Elvis Presley, and impregnated her because he wanted an heir. After the truth came out about "The King," Susan married an Englishman named Edmund Crumb and the newlyweds took Elvis across the pond to start a new life in 1998. P.S. I wasn't just messing with you when I suggested that Jan Spears might be the Gloved One. Don't forget that Days' new head writer, Hogan Sheffer, recently inherited this plotline from James E. Reilly. From what I'm hearing, the Gloved One's identity actually changed a few times before the show finally settled on EJ Wells. I'm just happy that Days plans a substantial story line for British hottie James Scott after he was so wasted on All My Children.
UPDATE: I've read some of your comments and I'm not so sure about this "EJ Wells is Benjy Hawk" theory. Yeah, Patch and Kayla did mention Benjy in passing recently. But consider that character's history. Back in the late '80s, Benjy rejected Stefano after an explosion at one of his fiendish father's many residences left Benjy deaf. He then went to live with his Native American maternal grandfather, Orion Hawk. So if Benjy is now EJ, how exactly did Benjy not only regain his hearing, but become evil and British? Me confused.
Oh, and reliable sources tell TVGuide.com that, yes, of course Joseph Mascolo (now ex-Massimo, Bold and the Beautiful) is coming back to Days as Stefano. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Can I just say that I am so happy that I stuck with Days during the "dark times." It has become so much better since the new writer has taken over! I TiVo all week and watch them back to back on Saturday mornings while drinking coffee and putting around on the computer. For the last few weeks, I'm glued to the TV!

Long story short: Patrick was "there" for Hope after Zack was killed. He left town, Chelsea found out where he was going, and sent a message (through an unknowning Abby) to Hope that she should go there. Lo and behold, they "run into" each other on Morgan Island, and while they are there, things escalate between them and they sleep together. Since birth control is obviously never available (nor thought of), she got preggo, and supposedly she's preggo with Patrick's baby. But who knows if she's really preggo, since she found out that she was preggo a long time ago and still looks skinny as a rail.

From what I understand, the new writer has already taken over (and it shows!) but he has so many loose storylines to tie up that it will be mid-October before his stories start to develop. For now he's busy just cleaning up James Rieley's messes.
As for Hope, I can't even stand to look at her anymore. She looks anorexic with her collarbones sticking out and cheeks sunken in. Eat a cheeseburger Kristen!

updated Kyle Brandt (Philip) had his last tape date on September 20th, which will have him last airing sometime in mid-October. TVGuide.com is reporting that Philip will be recast. Martha Madison (Belle) also posted on her webboard that a new Philip would be coming soon.

However, my feelings on this are based on the fact that I HATE this Belle. Kirstin Storms was my favorite actress on that show for awhile. When she left, I just could not get into the new Belle. (Although I have to admit her acting has gotten better!) So that is primarily why I don't like her. I wonder if I'll even care about any of then with a new Shawn. I'm really weird about recasts. :p

Days of our Lives Exclusive: New Writer Dishes the DiMera DynastyLast week, this TVGuide.com soap pundit had the great pleasure of lunching with Hogan Sheffer, the new head writer of NBC's Days of our Lives.
We spent two fascinating hours at Art's Delicatessen in Studio City, California, where we dished the current state of Salem and how he'll fix it. It's a big job, but if anyone can do it, Sheffer - who scored four Emmys while penning As the World Turns - is the guy.
During our chat, I found Sheffer to be candid, funny, down-to-earth and whip-smart. And I swear I'm not just saying that 'cause he promised he would order my new soap-opera book - although a first-time author appreciates all the support he can get!
FYI, I got way too much great soap dish to blow it all in one blog posting. So I'll be serving you my deli scoopage in delicious, digestible portions.
Let's start with Sheffer's take on the DiMera clan, that dynasty of deviants who've been stirring up terror in Salem since the '80s. "When I first got this job," Sheffer says, "everybody told me, 'You need to bring back the DiMeras.' This is the perfect time for that. I want to reward longtime Days fans by tapping the show's history of romance and old-school villains."

Will Stefano DiMera return to Salem?
I outright told Sheffer that Days just shouldn't do any more DiMera stories sans Stefano DiMera, the cagey "Phoenix" himself. Daytime vet Joseph Mascolo recently left The Bold and the Beautiful, and I've heard word he's returning to Days to reprise his signature Stefano role. True?
"Our problem, at the moment," Sheffer says, "is that I don't know if [Mascolo] is willing to come back for a short span. We have to think about what to do about that. The first thing we'll do is make sure there's another generation of the DiMera family on the canvas. We need to start passing down those attributes that have been so successful to the next generation. The [younger] generation on this show is sitting around doing nothing."
Who is E.J. Wells?
British actor James Scott (ex-Ethan, All My Children) has charmed Days fans as Sami Brady's mysterious friend, E.J. Wells. It will be revealed this fall that E.J. is a member of the DiMera clan and he's also the Gloved One who's been skulking around Salem.
"He's not going anywhere," Sheffer says. "To me, he is the next generation of the DiMera family. I think it will be a huge surprise as to who he is, how he's connected and what he's been doing. I won't tell you exactly who he is. Kudos to [former Days head writer] Jim Reilly for bringing on this character and for setting up what I think will be a great mystery. That's all his stuff, not mine. The way it's going to play out is mine."
Wasn't Jan Spears supposed to be the Gloved One at one point?
"Yeah, Jan Spears," Sheffer acknowledges. "One of the other versions of that story had Tek as the gloved hand. But there are only two people involved in that gloved-hand business, E.J. and Patrick. John and Bo will figure out their connection."
E.J. Wells is not Benjy!
I recently offered up a wacky theory that E.J. is Elvis, the son of Stefano and Kristen's oddball look-alike, Susan Banks. Several TVGuide.com readers countered by speculating that E.J. is Stefano's long-lost Native American son, Benjy Hawk.
"You can say this," Sheffer says with a wink. "Benjy is a DiMera, and Benjy will be back. E.J. Wells is not Benjy, though. We will see Benjy for the first time around the end of October. Benjy will be pivotal in what's happening in the months to come." Scoop!
E.J. will have an affair with an older woman!
As Days fans know, Kate Roberts used to be Stefano's mistress. So let's keep it in the family, shall we?
"Kate and E.J. are gonna start [sleeping together]," Sheffer teases. "E.J. is everybody's type. And why wouldn't he want her? She's a sexy woman! This also gives Kate her chops back. No more Roman and Victor - none of that. When Lauren Koslow (Kate) walks into a room, she just bowls me over. She's sexy, she's a great actress, and she will be very, very busy."

I was surprised that I wasn't thinking he totally sucked. I think it'll take a few weeks to really get used to him, but I think I'll be able to get past the change pretty quickly.

I thought it was funny that Victor JUST got Claire up from a nap and then 2 seconds later they were surprised she wouldn't take her nap in the PNP... duh! And seriously, Hope was going to try and put her to bed... Would your child go to sleep for a complete stranger? Mine would freak out!

Okay, I know this is DOOL, but Phillip keeps saying he is going to be there for his family, Belle, Claire and the new baby, but what about HIS baby! The blonde in the previews is "willow". She's a runaway, turned prostitute that approaches Shawn while he's playing basketball to blow off steam. She tells him she had an abusive father and he ends up telling her his life story...Then she tells him he should fix his relationship w/ his dad. He gives her the # to Chez Rouge and tells her to ask Maggie for a job and gives her $ for clothes. She gives him an angel pendant (I think) and tells him he's her angel. This is all from Dustin's site.
