Michelle Branch has this band called The Wreckers. Apparently, she wrote this on their website but it has since been pulled.

She wrote:

Alright, I don't even know why I am still awake seeing as I have to be up in a few hours to feed Owen.

What I am most frustrated at, I suppose is...I pay money to keep this website up so all of you "fans" can talk about our music. Why would I want to spend the money so the majority of you can sit around and *** about us?

I understand that you are frustrated with the fact that there isn't any music for you to listen to. Don't you think Jessica and I are frustrated too?? We finished this record over a year ago and were sent on a lame ass tour we didn't want to be on. It was a horrible idea to headline a show playing music that nobody had ever heard. Maverick wanted to make a quick buck, and unfortunately, we were obligated by contract to do so. I was 5 months pregnant when we started that tour and believe me...it was the last place I wanted to be. Then I got pushed into doing a Santana song I didn't want to do (I didn't write it either, Shanks wanted me to sing it so bad, that was a bargaining tool), Maverick wouldn't let me do it unless Jess was on it so they would get "free" promotion for a record they didn't even understand or believe in for the most part. The record wasn't released because Maverick didn't want me promoting an album pregnant. they thought it would look bad to my young fans...bull.

As far as "biting the hand that feeds you"..

I would give nothing more than to play music in a *** bar and fold clothes at The Gap for a living. My "being famous" has done nothing but ruin my relationship with my parents, mostly my Father and it has made me hate doing what I used to love more than life itself...playing music. I have been pushed around and now most of you see me as someone who I never really was, and most of you can't accept the plain fact that people change and grow up and I'm not the little girl you think I am. I have a family of my own now, a baby...the last thing I could imagine doing is making music. I'm fine financially (although I don't make millions contrary to popular belief.) and being a famous musician has brought nothing to my life besides strife. (Okay, I met my wonderful husband and bandmate because of it.) I have maybe written two songs in the past year. That's ridiculous. This isn't fun for me anymore. I'm sick of sucking *** to get my music heard, putting on a fake smile, and saying things that are acceptable.

On the contrary, The Wreckers album makes me very proud and excited again. It's almost like my first day at a new school. it's a fresh start. I'm finally excited to tour (although I need to find a nanny!) and I am looking forward to seeing what fans think.

You know, I CAN take the criticism. I just don't understand why I should pay for an arena for you to do it. If you are a "fan" why do you speak about Jessica and I in that way.

I never wanted to be put on a pedestal..I just wanted to make music. And believe me, many times I have thought I was going to quit. It's too much energy to pretend it's fun. You can call me a baby if you'd like, but life is too short to spend it being miserable.

This board is going to be shut down tonight. I think we all need a break. When the Wreckers album finally comes out, we'll see the ones who decided to stick around. As for the rest of you, I meant it when I said "f-off"

-M"

Updated: Because she said what she felt - changing it from "going off the deep end" to "speaks her mind" ;)

I don't think this is crazy at all. This is clearly a young girl having contractual issues with her label and finding it frustrating. I imagine it would be even more frustrating when you're exhausted from caring for your baby and having to read unkind things about yourself on your own website. It really can't be easy to be under so much pressure at her age.

That was very brave of her, but will take a huge toll (if not ruin) her career.

I couldn't have cared less about Michelle Branch before, not even sure what she sings. But that post has balls. I'd be interested in knowing more about her now. She seems like a strong woman and I doubt that could hurt her career. She's obviously addressing those people who were already talking bad about her. Good for her for standing up for herself.

I have always loved Michelle Branch's music. And Ill still be a fan of hers, this post wont make me not like her.

I admire her for posting that. It really took some guts to let the public know how she felt. It's almost sad that it was even pulled.

I don't understand how you can like her less for that post. Hell I love her more for it! I think it took a brass pair to write what she really meant, and I can understand why she feels that way. I admire her for posting that, and saying what she really believes.

I had to laugh when she said she didn't even want to record that song with Santana. Oh man, I bet her PR people are having a day! :p

hormone rage hormone rage!

I liked her and her music until I heard that she showed up falling down drunk to something awhile back. Lost respect for her real quick...

If it is true, good for her! I think it's great that she spoke out in spite of what it could potentially do to her career.

I definitely don't think this means she has gone "off the deep end". Like others have said, I admire her honesty and it took guts for her to write that and post it, I'm sure. Good for her.

Gone off the deep end = Wax nativity with your baby as the Baby Jesus (http://www.constantchatter.com/showpost.php?p=367189&postcount=2151)

Frustrated = Michelle Branch

Congrats to her for having the balls to say it.

ETA link to the "wax nativity" bit. Sadly, I didn't just pull it out of my arse.

There have been quite a few artists who have spoken out about their record labels. Prince is the one that comes to mind first and foremost.

She sounds frustrated - like any new mom can be. But add to that her career and hearing horrible things about yourself from your 'fans' on your own site - I respect her saying those things.

Good for her!

She has balls and I admire the fact that she stood up for herself and what she believes in.... I wish more people were like that.

Good for her. A person can only take so much BS before standing up for themself. Now I hope she does release The Wreckers album.

I'm another one who is glad that she stood up for herself. Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows says this kind of stuff on their website all the time. I think most people who go to that website should at least appreciate her honesty.

My DH is in the music industry. The funny thing about being in the public eye is that "fans" start to think that they own you, that they really, truly know who you are as a person just because they're a fan of your music. Therefore, they feel that they can attack and insult you freely. It's crazy how much s**t has been said on my DH's website...it really takes a toll after a while and I'm glad she told them all to shove it.

Dealing with labels really sucks, so I know how frustrating it is.

I'm part of the team over on a jazz musician's board and I think it's funny to read the comments where people say things like "I know it's not about the money", or "you have tons of money, so you should, blah, blah". I think it's pretty strange that someone would feel that just because someone has been in the "business" for x# of years that they're automatically rolling in money. They especially fail to see how more often than not, folks that got into the biz young, or have been around over 40+ years have been screwed by their label (or other team members) through the years, and half the time don't even own their own material.

It is SO refreshing to see a real post instead of a publicists professionaly written and templated, predictable words.

I think her post was valid and she should have the right to speak her mind. She was on an episode of One Tree Hill and they performed a song and I loved it. I've never been a fan of hers (besides hearing the songs on the radio) until I heard that song. I hope they do come out with the Wreckers CD.
