Someone was telling me to check out The Zone Diet today. I did a search but didn't see any threads dedicated to the diet.

Anyone here on this diet? Can you explain how it work? Has it worked for you or not? Really anything at all related to this diet would be helpful to me.

Thanks!

I did the zone diet with some success. I lost 35 lbs on it (from 246-210 or so) before I quit, gained about half of it back, and started another program to lose the rest of the 100. I suggested The Zone to a friend of mine who used it to lose 80 lbs and reverse his Type II Diabetes. My uncle, also a diabetic, did the diet with success. I believe The Zone to be a pretty decent diet. I have never read the South Beach book, but I've heard it's fairly similar.

They break down each food group a little further by doing "Good, medium, and bad." Basically what they're looking at in figuring out what is good/medium/bad is the calorie density of the food. Foods with lower calorie density you can eat in bigger bulk for the same 'price' and they'll fill you up better. So like Bad Protiens are sausage, fatty red meats, etc. Medium protiens are lean red meat, ham, etc. And good protiens are chicken, fish, etc. Then they do this again for carbs (generally, good = vegetables, medium = fruit, bad = grains) & fats. They don't say "don't eat Bad stuff" they just say - do it in moderation. Don't have a sausage sandwich with mayo every day for lunch. That sort of thing.

They also want you to eat 5x/day instead of 3x/day to stave off hunger & bingng at meals. I would eat a piece of fruit & a thing of string cheese for a snack -- portable & tasty and it worked out well.
