I just heard on E! News Live that they announced a mutual decision to end their engagement!

SPLITSVILLE: Nicole Richie and fiancé DJ AM calling it quits, Richie's rep confirmed. "They have decided to break off their engagement," the rep stated. "The decision is mutual." The split was first reported by Us Weekly.

We were very sad when we learned earlier today that one of our favoritest couples, Nicole Richie & DJ A.M., have officially ended their relationship. We were in shock, but that lasted all of 30 seconds. Then, we put on our investigative glasses and began a flurry of calls, texts, IMs and emails. We spoke with multiple sources, and they each told PerezHilton.com the same thing. Despite the official statement by the now former couple stating that the breakup was a mutual decision, we are hearing that that's just spin.

"Adam dumped Nicole," echoed our sources.

And while they were all able to agree on that, the cause of the split was divided into two camps.

"Adam was fed up with Nicole," said one source. "Her issues with her weight, I'm reluctant to say 'anorexia', caused her behavior to be very erratic and moody lately."

Another source said that Adam discovered some troubling news about his girlfriend.

"A.M. has a residency in Vegas, where he goes to spin every weekend," said the other source. "And, when the cat's away, the mouse will play. Adam found out that Nicole was 'partying' when he was away, and he does not tolerate that."

Regardless, the only two people who will ever know the real reason behind the split are Adam and Nicole. And, we wish them well, sincerely.

I agree. They seem to really care about each other, so I imagine that it would be hard for him to do this. I wonder if he tried to intervene and get her help.

I thought these two had been together for a while? I know she was with him when he had his gastric bypass surgery and lost a lot of weight. I must admit that I'm shocked that they broke up. I don't really follow the tween seen, but I didn't expect this.

If the reason *is* because of her weight issues, that just sucks. I imagine how hard it would be to be with someone so self absorbed with their weight to get down to nothing, but you'd think there would have been help for her. DJ AM was a very BIG guy before his surgery. She had some meat on her bones as well.

Anyway, it's just sad.

One of the most lovy dovy couples has called it quits. Tuesday night Nicole Richie was sans ring as the couple had dinner at La Scala restaurant in Beverly Hills. Coming out Nicole was hiding which is rare. Thursday the couple broke their engagement. December 5, 2005

However, i think it's sad that they didn't stay together if she really does have an eating disorder. You would hope that at the lowest time in your life, when you really need the people that love - your own fiance doesn't let you down and give up!

I would actually call that self-absorbed. Self-absorbed doesn't have to mean conceited. It means being taken up in one's own thoughts, activities or interests. In my experience, people suffering from anorexia are very self-absorbed. They spend enormous amounts of time thinking and planning out their day to avoid eating, count calories, weigh/measure and work out. As you said, they "obsess" about what they are doing. When someone gets to the point where the majority of their day is ruled by the disease, there's not much room left for other things or people. Another way of saying that is that they are self-absorbed.

Ok, I see what you mean. I thought you meant self-absorbed in the sense of obsessed with losing weight to be beautiful, which is not the case with anorexics. Anorexics tend to hide their weight loss (at least they used to -- I understand there is a new trend of showing off your anorexic body) under big, frumpy clothes. It's almost as if they are trying to disappear. They think they are so worthless, they don't want to be visible.

I think if Nicole is anorexic (and I have no way of knowing), her ex is doing her a big favor by ending the relationship. This is not something she can "get over" with the support of others. She sort of needs to find her own way through this, sad though I suspect it is for both of them.

Nicole Richie and fiance DJ AM (Adam Goldberg) go Christmas tree shopping together in West Hollywood. The couple fell in love with the first tree they saw, bought Christmas tree lights, and arranged to have the tree delivered later in the day. 12-5-05

The cut on her arm doesn't look like a suicide attempt (those are usually vertical if the person is serious about it), it actually looks more like self-mutilation. Based on what I've heard in adolescent development courses, self-mutilation can go right along with eating disorders. :( Poor Nicole.

I agree. The only way it makes sense is if they had some huge blow out over something major like cheating...otherwise, I don't see how they could do it.

‘Simple Life’ star Nicole Richie and her fiancé/boyfriend Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein are rumoured to have split once again.

The couple rekindled their relationship early this year after calling off their engagement last year.

The E! Entertainment network broke the news last night on their ‘Daily Ten’ programme saying: “Back to Ms Richie for a moment. The Daily Ten has just learned that her on-again/off-again relationship with DJ AM is officially over.”

The reasons for the split are of yet unknown.
