NikosMommy ~ You and the baby are in my thoughts and prayers.

NikosMommy- I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Just keep your up that postitive thinking and I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

QOTD- Bottle vs Breast- I plan to breast feed for the first year. Of course there are no guarantees. I don't know if I want to buy a pump before the baby is born or see how things go. I would hate to spend the money and then for some reason not be able to breast feed.

shouldaeloped -- I don't know if it's normal, but I felt it yesterday too. It went away pretty quickly, and I haven't felt it since. I haven't felt a reason to worry. I'm sure that doesn't help, but I thought I'd share my experience.

that is exactly what i needed to hear. just that it had happened to someone else too. safety in numbers!!!! thanks for your response!

Nikosmommy-Oh my goodness. I really really hope that all is okay with you and the baby. Definitely thinking of you.

U/S is tomorrow! This time tomorrow I'll be in seeing my midwife as the follow up visit and we'll have SEEN the (surprise) baby!! :) I think I may have actually felt the baby move from the outside last night but it could've been gas too :p

Am definitely popping out more this week. DH took a couple of shots at exactly the 19w mark (he doesn't take the head so I'm sorry for being a headless woman)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/rmhodge/Pregnancy%201%20Belly%20Shots/DSCN0109.jpg

BF vs Bottle Feeding-I really would like to breastfeed. I watched my mum breastfeed all 6 of my siblings so for me it seems the most 'normal' thing to do. I'm planning on reading books and stuff and hopefully our birthing/parenting classes will be helpful as well. I know of a breastfeeding class that is run in our area so I may/may not attend it depending on how helpful our other classes are.

Furniture-apart from a chest of drawers that we may/may not use depending on space (we're in a tiny apartment) and a highchair that I was given we have nothing yet. Since we're planning on co-sleeping for awhile I'm not even setting up the office with much baby stuff. I just have to work out where to store clothes and things. We have a beautiful rocking chair in our lounge room and I'll be using that. Need to get a nursing-footstool though to make it more comfortable for feeding and rocking.

Well, hope all the other u/s are going well! Will check back in sometime soon.

QOTD -

I plan on BFing baby2.

I was able to BF Connor until 8 months, though we started the very slow weaning process around 6 mos. He took the bottle from day one (thanks to his NICU stay) so we kept up with a few bottles of EBM/week for the first few weeks, and within a month that became a once-a-day thing: first feeding after midnight was a bottle of EBM. It was the only way for me to stay sane with my champion hour-long nurser. At 3-4 mos, I started giving him formula in his night bottle so that I could start a really good stash of EBM in the freezer and also to ensure that he wouldn't reject formula in the future if it became necessary.

That worked for us with Connor, and I hope it works for us with Baby #2.

However, I would like to nurse longer (a year is my goal this time), so I want to do a few things differently:

1. I've already got phase one taken care of (we bought a great LaZboy recliner and LaZBoy reclining couch this year).

2. I am working on phase two - getting a comfortable bf'ing pillow and a laptop w/wireless internet (so I can surf the net while nursing in the middle of the night - will help keep me entertained, in addition to the 984 infomercials on satellite TV at 2 a.m., which will help me get through the middle of the night feedings!!).

3. Phase three is actually reading some good books on BFing to renew my commitment to bfing… and to actually find the local LLL to have them standing by if I need help!

Lorraine I definitely will offer up some prayers for you.

Breast v Bottle I will BF for at least one year. I BF Rachel to 19 months and Wyatt until this week (12 months). I only weaned Wyatt because I wanted to be done by about 20 weeks pg (when nursing can theoretically be a factor for preterm labor because of the release of oxytocin during nipple stimulation). I took a one evening breastfeeding class and I HIGHLY recommend that 3 hour time commitment to any first time mom. It was reassuring to know that breastfeeding may or may not come naturally to each woman but that either way, there are things you can do to help maximize the likelihood your breastfeeding relationship will work. It is also great to have support available and many women who teach these types of classes are willing to offer it--often free of charge. I am far from being a lactivist but I have very positive feelings about breastfeeding and I am happy to help/support any of you who decide to try it.

bedding This baby will be in our room in the pack n play bassinette and our bed until it is about 6 months old. I'm not buying any new bedding this time. Wyatt is currently in the nursery. We may buy another crib when the baby is 6 months if we are not ready to put Wyatt in a toddler bed. The nursery was painted sage green and white before we even knew Rachel's sex. I just changed up the decorations to be more boy with Wyatt.

The big news for us is that we moved our ultrasound to Thursday the 19th!instead of the 24th! My DH had a conflict all this week that has now disappeared so I took the opportunity to move up the appointment because I am so impatient:D ! We decided today that we are going to take Rachel with us as well.

Nikosmommy I wish you well. Keep us posted.

Furniture and Bedding DH and I don't really agree on what neutral colors are. I think he would prefer a gender oriented nursery. So we decided to wait to find out the sex before moving forward with a nursery theme.
We bought our crib over Xmas at BRU. It was in stock but unfortunately one of the pieces was split so we are waiting for a replacement part. The manufacturer confirmed that it was shipping this week. It's a Jardine Ameriwood Lifetime Crib - Natural.

BF I plan on BF for the first 6 months. Though I admit that I have not read much about it yet. I do plan to follow both my sisters' advice since they have recently done it. I was originally trying to shop for a breast pump and asked my sis if they would be willing to lend me theirs. Turns out my sister bought me the Medela Pump in Style for Xmas. She secretly started trying for her second and didn't want to part with her pump yet. I have signed up for classes offered by the maternity center at the hospital. I realize that it will be tough when I go back to work after 2 months and have to pump several times a day but oh well!

I don't think I'm that big, but to hear that some of you are still in normal clothes makes me think I'm huge.

Me, too. I feel like I've been bigger and PG forever already. To hear about people just starting to wear maternity clothes, or that their belly is just getting noticeable sounds so weird to me. Makes me feel huge, too.

sunshine CUTE bedding!

dansgirl Your bedding looks great with that shade of wood.

nikosmommy OMG, I can't believe this! I hope you and the baby are okay. I'll be thinking of you and saying prayers for you! Please update us just as soon as you can.

furnitureNothing yet, but we're planning on check out a couple of stores in a week or two.

Bottle-feeding vs. breast-feeding Am I the only one who isn't breastfeeding? I will be bottle-feeding. Breast-feeding just isn't for me.

ds2003 I'm always so impressed with your posts. You are first-timer, right? You're always like...I will be doing this, I will be doing that, this is how it will be. You've put so much thought into things. I feel like a slacker next to you!!

Izzy: that is a very cute bed.

shaq: yes, but it has been a long time - I was actually in middle school. I loved it. My dh & I are going close by there (pikesville or pikeville) at the end of March for his work.

Breast v Bottle I tried with Andrew & I thought he was not getting enough b/c he cried all the time but it wasn't that - he had colic for almost 4 months :eek: <pulling out hair> lol - I will probably use bottles this time cause Ive heard that some of the meds I am on for my thyroid & prediabetes affect breastmilk -

ds2003

jbenny - Yep, I'm a first timer. No need for you to feel like a slacker. DH and I TTC for 1.5 years. In that time I read quite a few books so by the time we got pregnant I pretty much knew what I wanted. Some of it won't be easy at first for us, it's the best things for me and our baby. Having read a lot has also helped when some people say whatever ignorant statement comes to them. I know what to believe and what to ignore. DH has been supportive in my choices and so have my parents. My mom BF'd me and cloth diapered me so I had no opposition there. She was quite impressed to see how things have changed over the years. When I told her about the water birth she thought I was kidding at first, but then she was all for it. If you have the support of your family it really makes things easier. So as I stated earlier...no need to feel like a slacker or even compare ourselves. We each have reasons for the decisions we make.

I'm so excited. My u/s is in less than 1.5 hours. I must be nervous because I've been tossing and turning all night.

I popped in here real quick this morning and just saw the post from nikosmommy. Gosh, sorry to hear you're going through this. Hopefully all will be okay. Thinking of you and sending prayers your way.

jbenny I've also been showing for some time now, and have definitely gained some pounds, so you are not alone! I've been in maternity clothes for several weeks now.

Nikosmommy, I'm so sorry to read that you are feeling bad again. You and your baby are in my thoughts!

jbenny, I've gained a lot of weight too. Some people just gain more than others. If it makes you feel better, I gained a lot with my last pregnancy and lost it all plus some. I did have to cut out the ice cream for a while to do it, but don't worry that you'll be stuck with it forever. I've also been in all maternity for a few weeks.

ds2003, did you decide whether to find out the sex? Have fun at your appointment!

NikosMommy HUGS! I hope things go well at the dr's office. My thoughts are with you sweetie.

Breast or bottle? I plan to breastfeed for about a year. I will also pump since i have to go back to work at 9weeks post partum and the babysitter will need milk. Also DH can help out at night with a bottle so I can get some rest! :)

Thanks for all the responses to my crib question. Im glad you all think it will look ok, we are getting the bedding this weekend and ordering the crib next month sometime.

So my appointment went well this morning. HB was 155 and my weight was 1 lb over pre preggo, so yay! She said my fat reserves were built up so my body isn't holding on to anymore, guess that's a nice way of saying I was fat before...LOL like I didn't know that!:rolleyes:
She also said that since the u/s pics looked so good she didn't see a need to do the AFP (Alpha Feta Protein) test. Has anyone elses dr said they can skip that test?? She said if I really wanted to take it I could but she thinks it would be a waste of my money since things look ok, Hmmmm...

We are registering this weekend on saturday because people are already asking us what we want and this way I can just point them to BRU and let them shop :) DH isn't looking forward to going for several hours, so we will probably do the big stuff (stroller, play yard etc) and then i'll go back with my mom one night next week and add the little things(bottles, bibs, diaper bag etc).

Have a great hump day everyone!

Niko's Mommy - My thoughts are with you right now, and I hope that you are doing ok...

Breastfeeding vs. Bottlefeeding - I'm hoping to breastfeed, for as long as possible.

Bedding and Furniture - We still haven't found a crib we like, but the search continues. As for bedding, we fell in love with the Farmyard Friends bedding at PB Kids, and since my co-workers gave me a nice gift card as a going-away present, we ended up buying it this past weekend.

Good morning, everyone! I keep checking this thread hoping to see more u/s results. :) Next week will be especially exciting!

I haven't heard anything from my dr., so I can only assume that no news is good news and that everything looked good on the u/s. I don't have any reason to think otherwise, anyway.

Feeding -- I hope to be able to breastfeed for up to a year. My cousin is a big inspiration to me; she breastfed her daughter for 9 months and pumped also, so she had a milk supply that lasted up to the one year mark. I'm hoping to build up a supply as well.

Bedding/Furniture -- We don't have either of those, although we do have some idea of what we want for a crib. I want to go back to BRU to look at some. There's a dresser I want for IKEA, and we'll just put a changing pad on top of it. So much less expensive than a real baby dresser, and I love it. :) I've been staying away from bedding sets, and instead picking out cute sheets for the crib. There are some adorable sets, but since I can choose, I'd rather put that money towards something we'll use more. I don't really want to go with a strict theme in the nursery anyway.

DH and I registered on Monday, and it was so much fun! The whole idea terrified me until I sat down with Baby Bargains on Sunday night and started making lists of what we needed to register for and what we'd pick. By the time I was finished discussing everything with DH, we realized it was a complete registry! So we took advantage of being able to go to BRU on a weekday and registered. I had a typed list to take with me, and I couldn't believe what a difference that made. The whole process took about 1.5 hours, and it feels SO good to have it done. We'll make some changes, I'm sure, but all of the big decisions have been made.

Nikosmommy ~ You are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry you are going through this, but we are all pulling for you hoping everything turns out all right.

DS ~ Good luck with your ultrasound, hope it all goes well. Come back and report as soon as you get a chance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a midwife appointment last night and what a miserable night it was...between the pouring rain, ice and the appointment, it wasn't a good night.
The appointment with the midwife started alright, she took me in right away (I was 45 minutes early due to the weather I left very early from work.) My weight is up about 6 pounds...which were all put on in one week! I think it's the fruit juice and ice tea mix that I've been drinking, as I haven't really been eating more. So she told me just to watch it and not gain too much more (time to start drinking more water.)
She asked if I had started to feel movement, and I told her only once. Which she didn't really say anything about, but after the U/S last week I know he's moving around, so wasn't worried.
My blood pressure was normal (a little low actually, but that's normal for me) and she was able to find the babies heartbeat loud and clear. It's the first time we've been able to get it really loud and not have the baby move as soon as she found it.
I also asked about my IPS test results (same as AFP I think) and my numbers were great. Chances of Down's is 1/16000 and chance of Neural Tube defects is 1/5300...so no need to worry.
They I asked about my ultrasound and that's when it started going bad. Evidently my placenta is forward facing, which is why I haven't been feeling baby much. It's acting as a cushion between baby and my stomach. Shouldn't affect my labour and delivery (so she says) but I'm going to do a little research into it. The report also said that the baby was very active and gender identification was positive (but didn't say the sex, even though we know it's a boy.)
Then there was a note that Tech recommends we go back in for another U/S...of course I heard that and my stomach dropped. Evidently our baby was so active that the tech couldn't get the proper measurements for the Spine and Nasal Cavity. The M/W said that the tech should have told us then and there that she couldn't get it, but she never said a word...which is why I was worried. But the M/W said it's nothing to worry about (easier said than done) and to just call and book another appointment. She said it was just another chance for us to see our baby, but to book the appointment as soon as possible.
So, I'm in the process of trying to book another U/S (the computers were down when I called) and hoping to get it sometime next week. Has anyone else been told to go back in for an U/S? Should I be worried?
Breastfeeding ~ I forget that most of us have to go back to work so quickly after giving birth. One of the only bonuses of living in Canada (there aren't many, as you've heard me whine about before) is that we get a whole year of paid maternity leave. I never even though that some woman will have to pump at work and feed baby EBM with a bottle.
Since I have a year off, I'm hoping that by the time I go back to work I will have weaned the baby. I would be thrilled if I can B/F, but ideally would like to go 6-8 months, that's my goal anyways.
Another QOTD...when someone asks you when you are due, how do you respond? Do you respond with the actual date, like 'I'm due June 2nd' or do you just respond with the month, like 'I'm due in June.'
At this point, anytime someone asks me I always say 'I'm due June 2nd.' But the more I think about it, maybe that sounds stupid. Do they really want that kind of specific information. Should I just respond with 'I'm due in early June.' It sounds like something stupid, but I must get asked about 3-5 times a day when I'm due. Just wondered what everyone else reponded with.
Okay, that's it for me, off to read about 'Forward facing placentas'
ds2003 and Astlrdec how did your appts go? Any news?
pink hope all is going well for you!
Congrats to all the boy and girl mamas! Boy, we're quickly putting together a baseball team! We need more estrogen in here!!
Welcome shaqangel!
bedding and furniture Counting on several hand-me-down furniture items. We want to get a really nice glider, since we won't have to spend lots on other items. Bedding - I'm going to find a pattern I like (or two gender-specific) and most likely buy the 'accessories', but not the main set. Most of the sets contain items that would get no use anyway. Then we'll match with color, etc.
bf'ing thanks for the good recs for books ladies!
maternity tops I'm in the same boat as shouldaeloped. I've tried on countless tops that divide your breasts from your tummy and NONE fit right. has anyone seen any 'clips' (like pant clips when you wear boots) that you can use to make tops smaller/larger? I know my friend had them when she had her son (8 yrs ago). I think I'd be able to position those better to adjust where the 'cut' is.
"when are you due?" question I had intended on telling people 'mid-June' so I wouldn't get comments on June 13th, saying 'are you still here?', but I've found that people actually want to know the exact date - especially if they are a June baby themselves! (or have one)
I've finally started to gain some pounds. For the life of me I don't know how my BBs and my belly got as big as they got without much weight gain! I've also started to feel what I would characterize as 'air bubbles' that I think is the baby. Can't wait till they get stronger!
QOTD:
Depends who I'm talking to.... if its someone that I hardly know, it's "Due in June" and for people closer to me, I get more specific...
With Connor I always said the date, because it was May 1, a nice round number. :) But since I had him in March, I know that this baby COULD come early, arriving mid-late May (or I could be jinxing myself and will have to be induced on July 3rd!), so by saying June, I leave it open to interpretation anywhere between June 1-30... and only get specific if pressed for more detail than just "june"
bottleored - I hear yah. It's soo frustrating. I'm thinking the pants clips might be available at a fabric store, like JoAnn's or something. I'll have to check it out. If I find some I'll let you know.
Which brings me to my VENT of the day...
I was so upset at DH this morning. Don't get me wrong..normally he is VERY sweet, but this morning he just pissed me off.
Yesterday I went to Old Navy and bought some cute maternity tops. Since I'm starting to outgrow all my regular tops, I decided it's time for me to get some mat. tops. Anyways, I go to try one on this morning because I wanted to wear one of them to work and he gives me this funny look. Like, "what are you wearing?" kinda look. So I ask him "what do you think?" and he goes.."Umm, isn't it kinda big on you? it looks really big on you." :( For one, I did not think it looked that BIG on me at all. I actually thought it looks semi-decent on me. I got a size LARGE b/c according to the ON size chart, I would be a LARGE. The reason why it looks "big" as he says, is because there is some extra fabric in the front but you and I know, I will eventually grow into it.
It's just soo frustrating not being able to "fit" into anything, yah know? I can't wear my regular tops b/c they are too tight and I can't wear any mat. tops b/c they are too big and they make me look frumpy. :(
I don't know if I'm over-reacting or what, but its just not something I wanted to hear from DH. It was hard enough for me to find something I liked at ON, only to try it on and be disappointed. :( [/vent]
when are you due question: I usually just sayJune 8th. Although I think a few times, I've just said..."I'm due in June." If they really want to know then I will tell them the date.
shamocha, my DH always gives me that look when I put on something that's too big as well. It is frustrating to be in this in-between stage! I figure though, that I'd rather have him tell me that I look frumpy so I can change and not go around looking that way all day!
MrsBrownie ~ Try not to worry too much about the 2nd u/s. I've read so many stories of people having to go back for measurements because the baby was too active. It's quite common.
QOTD ~ It depends who I'm talking to. I have yet to be asked by a stranger when I'm due (knock on wood) but will just say June. If I'm talking to someone I know I tell them the specific date.
Excited Bride- Congrats on your little Girl!!
When are you due question- I try to say the end of June or the last week of June and for some reason that isn't specific enough. DH was on the phone with his mom last night and she asked about the due date and he told her that it would be either last week of June or first of July. She wanted a specific date that the baby would be born, so she could be up here for it's birth. He had to explain to her that even when we get a specific due date, that it is really more like a 2 week window. She got all in a huff and said that she may not be coming if we don't want her there and then wanted us to understand that she couldn't stay up here for 2 weeks! I'll just plan the birth of my baby around her visit and make sure he/she comes in that 3 day period.
Luckiest mommy in the world moment!--- Last night DH and I were cuddling on the couch and he started talking to the baby through my belly button and telling him/her how much he loves it and can't wait to meet them. I just started tearing up on the spot. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen!
Congrats excitedbride on you girl.
QOTD - It depends who asks. Most of the time I say I'm due in June. Many will ask for a specific date and then run down the list of everyone they know with a June due date.
Well I'm back after my appt. DH actually told the sonographer that we didn't want to know. All was good until I caved it. I told her only to tell me if it was not a boy. Drum roll please....
We are having a BOY.
DH turned to me and said " Well I didn't want to tell you I said so." He is crazy. He kept asking me if I was okay. The more I think about it the better I am. We have been talking about names and right now Nicolas and Noah are possibilities. I have to go back for another u/s in 4 weeks. She was not able to get a good view of the heart. The baby was laying stomach down and was moving like crazy. DH said he was break dancing.
After my appt I then went to work and the power was out. I left around noon after they closed 1st shift. Then I went shopping and bought some stuff for the baby's room. I went to Target and got a stuffed classic pooh, 2 classic pooh fitted sheets and framed classic pooh print with Eeyore and Roo. There was only one so I need to check other Targets for one with pooh. I went to BRU and got a cute gender neutral winter outfit, a Boppy, a lamp shade and a book to read to the baby.
I say due June 20th.
DS-Congrats on your boy!
excited-Congrats on your girl!
I can't believe all the boys we have.
Well my second opinion U/S is tomorrow. I'm not nervous about it. My amnio on Friday tho has be really freaked out. I'm all weepy. I'm afraid I'm going to hurt the baby and nothing is going to be wrong with him and I hurt a perfectly healthy little baby for no reason. I guess this is a common fear. I'm scared of the cramping I may experience too, that will freak me out.
I'm really hoping Nikko'sMommy is okay. She's got me worried! Hopefully we will get an update soon...
Kaeden's-I am so ready for your U/S, I want to know what you are having. I think it's a girl. My prediction is based on nothing obviously, just a feeling ;) . I am kind of sick to my stomach again, I pray this ends before 7:15 on Friday (my appt.) because I don't need to be straining my tummy area before or after that amnio.
Updated to here
I think it's time to make a new thread - our first post with the list of mommies is too long so it's sharing a post with the Due Dates. I'll try to get another one done tonight or over the weekend. We're growing so much! :D
By the way, feel free to add me to the gender neutral "it's a surprise" list, as we are definitely not finding out the sex.
I must admit it's such great fun hearing everyone else's news, but we're not going to cave. :)
Excited - Congrats on your GIRL!
DS - And congrats on your BOY!
As for what we tell people when they ask, we just say the baby is due at the end of June. I've been given two different EDDs, so I just give a general timeline. For some reason, I'm predicting I'll be early. Atlhough, now that I say that, I'm probably setting myself up to be two weeks late!
Congrats on your girl, excitedbride, and your boy, ds!
Good luck tomorrow, Pink!
EDD QOTD - Giving a due date is even more complicated with twins because there's no way I'm going to 40 weeks. Sometimes I say they'll be full term on May23rd or give 5/23-6/6 as the ideal "window". But I usually just say they're due in June but expected earlier. Follow-ups are unusual because all the other questions tend to revolve around the babies being twins. :p
Talkative bunch today!
DS: Congratulations on your boy! :D
Good luck at your U/S tomorrow, Pink. And I understand why you are stressed about the amnio. I hope that your DH is being supportive and doing all he can to reassure you that things will be fine. Take care!
ffanel, it is tempting to cave when everyone is announcing their exciting news but I'm with you...holding out until the baby's birth day. ;)
Good luck at your U/S, Kaeden's Mommy.
Hope your baby cooperates and you get the news you are so anticipating!
Due date: I tell people I'm due in June. Although a coworker stopped me in the kitchen yesterday and said, "I heard the news that you are expecting a May baby." When I corrected her she replied, "That doesn't mean anything. My daughter's due date was June and she was born in May." Um. Okay. I think the due date means something! :rolleyes:
Threadmistress- Just an FYI- I'm not telling anyone IRL what the sex is so can you put me as a suprise tomorrow eventhough I will be announcing it here. Also if everyone can just say congrats on your little one that would be awesome. I just want the sex posted once or twice. I know I am being over cautious. He's trying but it's more like telling me not to be upset, stop crying, etc. until we find something out and not letting me just be upset. Sometimes you just feel better if you cry and get it all out, ya know. He is really is trying tho, I think it scares him when I get really upset about all of this. I forget that he needs reassurance everything is ok too. He wasn't going to be able to make it to the amnio but he is now THANK GOD! I did not want to do this w/o him. We really feel like everything is ok, but we're still scared. Very mixed emotions!
Thanks for all the well wishes.
DS ~ Congrats on your Boy...that is so exciting. I can't believe how many boys there are, I wonder what it means! Your DH said the same as mine about having a boy and not a girl...at least they are trying. But I'm really excited about a boy now and after being worried about another U/S and an Anterior Placenta, it really doesn't matter as long as he's healthy.
Pink ~ Wishing you the best of luck with your U/S tomorrow. I hope everything goes smoothly with the Amnio, but everyone I've talked to (about 5 women) who had an amnio, everything went perfectly fine for them. You will be in our thoughts for sure.
Amurphy and FFanel ~ Good for you for staying strong and not finding out. I was trying to stay strong (I think DS was too) but the excitement at the U/S was too much and I caved. In a way I'm glad I did, in another way, I kind of wish it was a surprise. But good for you!
Kaeden ~ Only 6 more days...we must have lot's of U/S's coming up in the next few weeks. Good luck, can't wait to find out what you are having (hopefully you will share and not keep it a surprise.)
Well, I'm done work for the day (actually had work to do today, imagine that!) and hopefully will have a good dinner (thanks to mom) and will be in bed early. DH is watching the Hockey game with friends tonight, so I have the house to myself. Maybe a bath, my book and then bed is just what I need...sounds like heaven!
Pink ~ We're all here wishing you well and hoping everything goes well.
It's funny how much I feel like I'm going through all of everyone else's 'things' as well as my own. I'm worried about my own stuff now, but find I'm worried about everyone else here too. Is that weird? I mean, we've never met one another, yet we all seem to be sharing in one of life's most incredible and scary journey's together. I can't wait until we actually start delivering...it's going to be so exciting.
And I can completely understand about your DH...at least he's making an effort though, which is better than not being involved at all. I keep having emotional breakdowns, where DH will find me crying uncontrollably...I actually get very embarassed by it and I'm sure it make him uncomfortable, but he's been so good at coming and sitting with me, rubbing my back and trying to make me laugh or understand what I'm upset about. He's been very good at trying at least, eventhough sometimes he makes things worse (he's made some very mean comments that were meant to help and DIDN'T) but at least he's trying and I appreciate it.
So, while sometimes they don't know what to say or do, just being there is enough. I just can't wait to see what DH is going to be like during labour...now that will be interesting. He will either be completely supportive, holding my hand, talking to me, etc...or he's going to be freaked out and completely silent. I think it will be the supportive one, but I wonder.
Anyways, the baby is starting to get hungry and I'm procrastinating the long drive home...so I'm out of here for now. Good luck to everyone!
DS2003 - Congrats on your boy!
excitedbride - Congrats on your girl!
astlrdec - cool pictures of your baby!
connorsmommy - my favorite pluffies is actually bluebeary. (my husband and i have been collecting a bunch since we started ttc.) even the name bluebeary is adorable. i was on the wc message board as bluebeary when i had my miscarriage, so i decided to go with pinkbeary instead. thank you for your tips on what to get!
breasfeeding pillow: i just found out that most of the moms at my church didn't like or use the boppy pillow. i had no idea.
i'm definitely getting a bouncy seat. i heard that it's a "must have" item.
as for the breast pump. i'm leaning toward the playtex embrace breast pump... so that i can use it with the playtex disposable bottle inserts. the reviews on amazon are better for this pump than the medela.
for those of you who will be using cloth diapers... i thought you might be interested in the following link: http://www.fuzzibunz.com/ i thought about it briefly... but decided that we do enough laundry in our home for just my husband and me.
breast pump - I still don't know. I'll probably either go Embrace or Pump in Style; however I want to use the Avent bottles so I may try the IQ Duo. It would be great if you could test drive them all. Do you know if the Embrace or Pump In Style have adapters for other brand bottles?
Astlrdec - your u/s pics are amazing.
Lil_Mrs - we are not telling anyone IRL either. I don't think anyone could find me on here though.
Pink - I hope all goes well tomorrow.
PinkBeary - thanks for the link. I have a few Fuzzi Bunz already.
Belm, Thanks for updating us. I'll be looking forward to seeing Lorraine back on here soon!
Breast Pumps: I'm pretty sure that there are adapters to pump directly into Avent bottles. We used Avent bottles but I always just pumped into the bottles that came with my PIS and transferred the milk later. I guess it saves time if you can pump a whole bottle, but I always pumped odd amounts. At the end of the day I would just pour the milk into Avent bottles for the next day or into breast milk freezer bags if I was lucky enough to have extra.
Belm: Thanks so much for the update. I just scanned the past few pages hoping for some good news, and there it was on the last post. YEA!
ds2003: Congrats on your baby boy!
Excited: YEA for a girl! Let me warn you how expensive it is with all the cute girl clothes out there. Mia has a bigger closet than I do:rolleyes:
MrsBrownie: I'm glad I can give you some hope on the BFing front. It was certainly a tough road, but one I'm glad I took. I had to learn right off the bat to accept what I could do instead of focusing on what I couldn't (after a couple of good crying sessions over starving my child:rolleyes: - amazing what post pregnancy hormones can make you think). I was never able to pump more than 3-4 ounces at a time (and that was a good session), even when Mia was up to eatting 6-7 ounces at a feeding. Many times I'd come home from work with 5 ounces total from 3 pumping sessions all day. It was frustrating, but I was grateful she had some breast milk every day.
I did not end up buying the book BFAR recommends. I may invest in it this time around. I know it's for sale on Amazon's website. It can also be ordered through Barnes and Noble, however, I only saw the hardback version there and it was twice the cost of the paperback at Amazon.
I'll be looking into LCs that have some additional experience working with women who have had a reduction. It also helped that our pediatrician was incredibly supportive- never making me feel like a bad mother for Mia's lack of weight gain in the beginning. He just kept a really close eye on her and encouraged us to keep working and telling us that there would be a time when we would have to supplement if things didn't improve, but being very caring in the way he approached the subject. That helped tremendously. Even though I don't consider myself to have been completely successful, ask any questions you have. I'll be happy to help.
Breast pump: I have a Pump In Style from last time around. I like it even though it was quite expensive.
Pillows: I hated my boppy. It worked much better as a pillow to prop Mia up on to look around or take some pics in some other position than laying flat on the floor.
Well, I need to go to bed. Mia's been in a stage of getting up in the middle of the night, every night lately. You would have thought this would be over since she's 2. It's wearing me out since I seem to have some insomnia once I'm awake. If I could sleep all night, I think I would. Once I'm up, I'm awake for a good 2 hours. Have a good night everyone!
Cute baby pictures, Astlrdec!
And thanks to Belm for the update on Nikosmom. I'm relieved to hear that both she and the baby are doing well.
Ryan, I can't believe you are still wearing nonmaternity clothes! My doctor said my U/S put me at about a week ahead of my current due date based on the baby's size, so I'll just tell myself that is why I can't wear my old clothes. ;)
Quick update: I had a doctor's appointment last night. A very quick doctor's appointment. I'm up 10 pounds from prepregnancy. Ugh. The doctor didn't say anything about that though so I guess it is okay. I did start going back to the gym this week and even did the pilates in pregnancy DVD that I asked my DH to get me for Christmas. It was a good workout and I'm a bit mad at myself for not doing it until now. In any case, the doctor was playing with me last night. When she came into the exam room she said, "So, do you want to know what it is?!" I immediately said no. Then when she was listening to the baby's heartbeat she asked what I thought the baby's sex was, and I said it depends on the day but felt like it was a girl yesterday. So she shows me the doppler that reads 140 and says slower often means boy...but that can fool us sometimes. What is she trying to do to me?! :eek:
In daycare news, I heard back from an in-home provider that was recommended by a friend. She seemed great on the phone so DH and I are going to her house the first week in February to check things out. It feels good to make some progress on this finally.
That's it for now...I have a meeting to run to!
Ryan
amurphy: I WOULD HAVE SO CAVED IF THE DR. did that to me.. good for you to be sooo strong!!!!
And you are right about heartbeats... when my mom was pregnant w/ me it was sooo slow that they thought I was a boy and my brothers was so fast they thought he was a girl.. so you never can tell... but I still try to think of different things that give me clues about the baby w/ out REALLY finding out.. LOL...
Ryan, I have over a 1 hour commute (although in my car not the train) and it was difficult but I still pumped. It is totally an individual decision and I won't lie and say it was easy, but it can be done. I usually nursed my DD right before I got up (just pulled her into our bed), got ready, drove to work, checked my email or whatever and then pumped. I pumped 1 or 2 other times during the day and then again as the last thing before I left work. I did pump a few times in the car but it's kind of hazardous while driving. I have my own office now so I think it will be a lot easier this time but luckily my company was pretty understanding about my need to spend a big chunk of my day pumping.
Thank you so much for the update on Nikosmommy. We are all really worried for her and keeping her in our thoughts.
Ryan- I love the bellaband. I saw it in a catalog the other day. I still really want one but I have no clue where I can find one around here and whenever I mail order something it seems to come in a week after I can no longer use it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ultrasound is today!!!! Only four more hours!!
I can't believe that the u/s is today! By this afternoon baby will have a name! I have my camcorder all charged up. I'm not sure if they'll let us bring it in but it's worth a try. If not we can always do a quick first welcome to the baby after we find out and show the first pic. I just want him/her to see how happy and in love we are and how how much joy they bring us. That way if they ever go through an "I hate you" or "You don't love me" teenager phase we have proof! (Semi-kidding)

I just was thinking that after today it will finally be real. I'm not just pregnant and getting fat but there is real living baby in there. Our baby!

QOTD: How much does childcare cost for newborns cost in your area? Daycare centers are about $300 per week. My friend's in-home provider charges $175 for four days. So it goes without saying that this issue is weighing on my mind lately. I'm just glad that we will only need care two or three days a week! :eek:

Good luck to Pink & Lil_Mrs today! I completely agree with what Lil_Mrs posted--the ultrasound does make the pregnancy suddenly seem "real." It is an amazingly exciting experience. Enjoy it!

Big congrats to all the new BOYS, GIRL and SURPRISES, too! Great ultrasound shots, ladies!

Belm – thank you for the update on Niko’s mommy. I hope she will be ok.

Sunshine- SCORE on the baby furniture! I really like the first crib you posted.

Update on Me: I hit 20 weeks today so I’m at the halfway mark! Yippeeeee!!!

QOTD: Daycare in our area runs anywhere between $30-50/day. We currently pay $35/day for our DS.

Another Question: For those who have had their US already….did you drink all of the water they recommended? If not, then how much did you drink? They are recommending to drink 4 – 8oz bottles of water …I can’t even imagine that my bladder would hold that much water. I remember when I had my US for my DS, I was literally crying because I had to go pee so bad. I don’t want the same thing to happen on Tuesday…..5 more days, baby!!! :D

At my ultrasound, I wasn't asked to drink any water. I think past 12 weeks, they usually say that the baby is big enough to see clearly and we aren't required to drink any water.

Having said that, I did find that I had to pee during the U/S eventhough I didn't drink any water. It was very uncomfortable, so I couldn't even imagine if I had to drink two bottles before going.

I booked my 3rd U/S - it's scheduled for next Friday, the 27th at 3:30pm. I will be exactly 23 weeks along...exciting!

Lil Mrs good luck at your ultrasound - hope baby cooperates!

Sugar n' spice and all things nice....

is NOT what our little BOY is made of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:)

He was really showing off his goods... :)

on a more serious note, though, they did find a 'bright spot' on his heart, which CAN be an indicator of Downs. However, 1 in every 5 or 6 babies show a bright spot on their heart and MOST often it means nothing. However, it does double my risk of having a Downs Syndrome baby. But, to put it into perspective, the average person my age(29 on the nuchal screening day) has a 1-in-592 risk of having a Downs Syndrome baby. I had the Nuchal Translucency screening in December, which decreased my risk to about 1-in-2400. So by doubling the risk, I'm still at 1-in-1200, or the same risk as the average 20 year old. So, while it does increase my risk, it probably means nothing. But please, none the less, pray for our baby boy and for us too that he is born healthy and without Downs. We're opting NOT to go for an amnio b/c of the 1-in-200 risk of miscarriage, plus we wouldn't terminate the pg even if our baby was proven to have Downs.

Wow, this thread is so hard to keep up with! Congrats on all the new announcements-can't wait to hear from LilMrs later on!
I went to the OB yest and so far I have gained 9 pounds this pregnancy, which is a lot better than I thought and certainly a lot less than last time, so I just have to remember not to use this as an excuse to pig out. The doc said my little boy was like a hamster in a wheel in my belly, very active!

Niko'sMommy-hope you are healing well

Connor's Mommy-are you ok with another boy? I was disappointed for about 1 minute and now I am so excited. Congrats!!!!!

I got notification that my doctor appointment after my u/s was changed. I called to find out more information and found that I'd be seeing the PA rather than my doctor. This has made me a little uneasy for a few days because I'm not a fan of this PA. I saw her twice when I was pg with DS and once this time. She really pushes for the Downs/Spina Bifida screening so that you know if you want to abort. It doesn't matter to me and I felt offended that she pushed so hard. So, I decided to call the office today and see if there was any way I could get in tomorrow or Monday...

Well, I'm going in at 10am on Monday instead! YAY! Almost 24 hours earlier than original and I get to see my regular doc who I absolutely love! :D

Shaq: 2 boxes of roses :) how sweet - my dh brought me 2 dz red roses on our 2nd anniv. back in Aug.

When I did my u/s they told me to drink 32 oz of water before going & do not go to the bathroom for atleast an hour before test - I had to end up waiting on the u/s tech & it had ended up being almost 2 hours when I finally got to go .... my bladder was about to bust.

Only 2 more hours!

I have been drinking a ton of water but when I had my u/s with my angel baby, I drank so much water that I had to pee 1/2 way through and they could see my bladder filling back up on the screen. So I'll go when I need to go.

Oh and here's another:

Pumping – I’ve already found a pumping spot although I do need to check if there is an outlet. Maybe I’ll take a break in a few minutes and walk down there.

Water for u/s – I was told to drink 32oz an hour before. My appt was at 8am. I peed at 7am and then drank 24 oz. I drank the other 12 around quarter of. The sonographer commented that I had a very full bladder. So I think I should have stopped at the 24 oz. When I go back to see the heart, the doc told me that I didn’t need to drink the water. He said a full bladder gives them a better view of the cervix.

Connorsmommy – congrats on your little boy.

I am having so much fun getting stuff for the baby’s room. I got some cute Classic Pooh stuff from Target yesterday and DH and I are going to another Target tonight to see what they have. I got the one and only Classic Pooh print at Target and I would like two more if possible. I also want the growth chart. I may end up buying it online if I can not find it in the store. We should be getting the crib and dresser in February. I am so ready.

Sorry I can’t see the pics that are posted. They are blocked at work.

MrsBrownie, Shaqangel – Thank goodness! I’m only going to drink as much as I can handle. The nerve of asking a PG woman to drink four 8oz glasses of water! ;)

Sunshine – that’s same thing happened to me with my DS! My DH was about to yell at someone for making us wait so long. The nerve!!

Shaqangel – Happy Anniversary. Your hubby is sooo sweet! How romantic. What else are you guys doing to celebrate?

Connors- Congrats on the boy! I will definitely pray for him to be healthy and a free from Downs. Have fun on your babymoon!

Congratulations on all these baby boys and girls! So exciting :p

Nikos- thinking good thoughts for you.

My big u/s won't be until Feb. 13th. This wait is horrible.... my doc indicated that she preferred to do the big u/s during week 21-22, but it seems as though most of you ladies are having your u/s earlier! I am jealous :cool:

I think Dansgirl asked about the AFP test a few pages back. My OB said she did not recommend this test either. She said it was becoming obsolete. I did, however, have a Cystic Fibrosis screening test when they took my blood during my 1st OB appt, and I had a 1st trimester screen which involved a prick to my finger and an u/s at 13 wks. They checkd for Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18 during this test. The final test will be my big u/s where they will check the baby's anatomy and also look for neural tube defects (Spina Bifida.)

Answers to some older QOTD's:

Furniture:
We are waiting to find out the sex of the baby before purchasing furniture or bedding, although we have looked around. I found 2 cribs I really like made by Stanley. One is more "girlish" than the other so we will wait. They said it takes 4-8 wks to come in so we still have time. I know I want white/antique white and I will likely order a crib and dress. I am not going to get a changing table as I figure I could use the dresser with one of those changer things on top.

Bedding:
As far as bedding goes, I am going to order from www.javisdavis.com. I had some fabric swatches sent to me which I really liked. Again, we have to wait to find out the gender to make the final fabric decision.

Baby Movement:
I am 17w4d today and still haven't felt the baby move. I try to lay very still at night to see if I feel anything.... but nope... .nothing yet! I am getting so anxious.

QOTD: I've looked at 2 child care centers near me. One was at work and the other was near my home. Both are charging between $245-$265 per week for infants. I had friends who had warned me of the prices, so I wasn't shocked, but my goodness... that is so expensive!

shamocha thanks! we're going out to dinner tonight - nothing over the top since we celebrated last tuesday and wednesday at a game park and also a resort in south africa! it was dh's first time home with me so he enjoyed it. the game drive was at night so it was tons of fun:)

another QOTD how is everyone's energy levels?
i do pretty good all day long but around 3:30p-4pm i really start getting tired. i guess i should mention that my iron levels were extremely low so the doc wanted me on iron meds (yuck hated them.....made me gag so badly). my enery picked up tremendously but since i had no appetite on them, he took me off after a mth. anyways just wondering if anyone else is overly tired at certain times.

Connorsmommy congratulations on your little boy!

Lil_MrsWhere are you?

Well, we had our ultrasound today and all is great. The baby is healthy and measuring perfectly. The risk of Down dropped from 1/129 (based solely on age) to 1/36,000+ which is the highest number the computer will generate! The risks for Trisomy 18 (1/17,000) and Spina Bifida (1/26,000) were also great odds.

And we found out we are having a

GIRL

We were worried briefly that we were going to end up with a surprise baby because the cord kept getting in the way of the picture! But then the sonographer got a clear 3 line labia shot. I have to admit I had a slight preference for a girl so I am thrilled we were able to figure it out! Now the name debate begins . . .

Who has US tomorrow?!

Water for the u/s I only drank the recommended water dosage for my very first u/s with DS. Never again! It has been fine that I haven't.

Breast pump The IQ Duo. I was really wanting to get that one, then saw the price! $350.00! Yikes!

Due date I say my exact due date.

[B]sunshine-My Baby Bargains book said if you get a crib with a drawer on the bottom and you are planning on using it store blankets or clothes it's a waste of money because it's a huge dust collector since there is no top on it.

We have a crib with a drawer underneath and do use it. I haven't noticed dust in the almost two years we have had it. I guess you could say the crib acts as the top for the drawer.

I am headed to Gymboree in a moment to redeem a gymbuck! What do you think of matchy sister outfits? Cheesy or cute? I think they can cut both ways but once in a while is nice. Hmmm.

Rachel has weighed in with a name choice: Ghee,Ghee:rolleyes: . We'll go with it for the time being until we can come up with a name. We did agree on a backup boy's name though: Luke Daniel

For girls we are thinking of

Meredith
Amy
Erin
Riley (I don't like so much)
Amelia (DH doesn't like so much)

The middle name will be either Grace (cause we like it) or Jayne (DH's mother's middle name, Rachel's middle is Elizabeth which is my and my mom's middle as well)

Alright I'm back. Oh it was so great to have the u/s! I actually found out that we are a week ahead so we are due June 21st!

We are having a baby!!! boy

I am so excited for our little one!!!

So I got to talk to DH about the name Edge and he admitted that since he found out about the wrestler he's been doing his research and doesn't like it as a first name anymore. I brought up Cole and Collin and he said that he was actually thinking about the name Collin before. He likes it because it is a strong Irish name (his background). Then we agreed that we would move Edge to middle name just in case it was a boy and gets mad that we didn't use it, he can still pick it. Does that make sense?

New PG developments (anyone else experiencing these?)

1- My right leg started falling asleep when I'm driving, and sometimes when I'm just sitting at work, but mostly when I drive. I called the dr's office and they said the baby was likely sitting on a nerve or blood vessel.

2- TMI Alert.
The other night when I was at WalMart, I sneezed and almost peed myself. Well, I did a little bit. :o And I when I have to pee, I have to pee. LOOK OUT!! There is no waiting to get to the bathroom.

If you go by my ultrasound measurements I'd be 22 weeks 6 days which makes me a May momma, but I'm just gonna stick here anyways if that's okay.

Wow, I can't keep up with everything that's going on around here! This is an exciting time with all the ultrasounds happening. Congratulations to everyone who has seen their babies!! It's the coolest thing. I feel like I've really bonded more with my baby since the ultrasound. Part of it could be that I'm feeling him/her a LOT lately. And there even seems to be sort of a schedule to it. Although he's jabbing at me right now as I type, and this would normally be an unusual time, but I ate a dark chocolate Lindor truffle about 20 minutes ago. :o But I'm really looking forward to seeing baby and holding him/her in my arms now, whereas a few weeks ago that thought pretty much brought fear and trepidation to my heart.

The other night I was up most of the night with terribly achy legs to the point that I finally got up and googled "pregnancy, achy legs" to see if I could find some relief. It would appear to be a pretty common problem which eased my mind a little. I've been keeping my legs elevated somewhat while sitting at my desk, making sure to get up and walk around regularly, and even wearing compression hose. It sounds like the achy legs go along with varicose veins much of the time (yuck), so I'm trying to nip that big 'ol problem in the bud. Just a heads up since I'm a few weeks ahead of most of you that this could be on the horizon.

I really can't even begin to do SO's, it's been so long since I've been here. So I'll just wish everyone continued health and blessings as we all carry our little ones for the final half of this pregnancy!

Oh, and Pink- I'll be thinking about you during your amnio tomorrow.

Well, I had my OB appointment last night and we heard the heartbeat again. I love that sound. The little booger kept moving around, though and as soon as she'd find it she would lose it again. We schedule the next OB appointment for February 16. They called me this morning with my u/s appointment, and I figured it would be the beginning of February, but they scheduled it for next Thursday, January 26!!! Threadmistress, can you also add my u/s appointment for January 26 at 8:30. I got an excuse from the doctor so I can take the whole day off. :p

Daycare I'm not sure how much that costs as my mom will be babysitting for us so we didn't need to research it.
Breastfeeding I would love to, but I'm a little nervous as well. I had a breast reduction in October of 2004 and was told that I had a 90% chance of being able to BF, but I haven't regained much feeling in my nips so I'm worried that means I won't be able to. *fingers crossed*

I think I've been struck with sciatic pain already. It goes all the way down my left leg, and when I walk I can feel it coming through my groin. I wake up in the middle of the night on my right side and I can't even roll over it hurts so much. I have to sit up and turn and then lay back down. *sigh*

Lil: Great pictures of the baby and the belly!

Pink: I'm happy to hear that the baby looked good on the U/S. Hope your amnio went well today and the results put your mind at ease.

Mystikal: It know it can be pretty hard waiting for the big U/S, but at least hearing the heartbeat is still so exciting. My friend, who is due at the end of May, was just struck with sciatic pain this week. She was telling another friend and I that she thought she pinced a nerve somehow. That's when my other friend broke the news that it was more likely her sciatic and it might last the rest of pregnancy. Hope your pain doesn't last too long though!

Lawyer: Congratulations on your little girl!

Connorsmom: And congratulations on your boy!

Graffy: My U/S measurements moved my due date from the 21st to the 16th, but my OB isn't officially moving the due date in my records. I guess the disparity isn't enough to warrant that...but it looks like you are quite a bit further along than previously thought. That's pretty exciting. I'd be furiously reading my Pregnancy Week-by-Week to catch up! I completely agree with you on how the U/S (and the baby's movements) helps make this whole thing so much more real.

Daycare (again): I live just a few miles North of Boston, which I suppose explains why the cost of daycare is so expensive. Everything here is expensive. :rolleyes:

Breastfeeding: I do plan to breastfeed but I will have to pump since I'll be working out of the house 3 or 4 days a week. My Mom breastfeed me and my sister but had a difficult time breastfeeding my brother (the first born). Although, she blames it on the nurses who intimated her and convinced her to use formula.

I had my first baby dream last night. I dreamt that the baby was a boy...but woke up feeling confident that I'm having a girl. In any case, in the dream I was home with the baby and my family when I realized that maybe I was supposed to stay in the hospital overnight after delivering instead of going right home.:rolleyes: (Baby was resting really high up-by my bellybutton-when I woke up this morning. Now he or she is kicking away after I drank a hot decaf coffee. :D )

It went fine. It HURT, but it was brief. It was more gross to me than anything. When they stuck the needle in I started sweating all over and seeing spots but they said I did really well.

I gained 1/2 a lb!!!

I should get the results in 12 working days but my Dr. finally came out and said he would be very suprised if something was wrong with my baby so that will make the next 12 days bearable. I will worry alot less because the Dr.'s hate to commit to anything or speculate and for a change he just said what he thought and it was positive! Yay.

I am supposed to be resting so I guess I will go lay down. I just realized I didn't come give you all report yet so I ran in here to do it real quick.

Thanks for all or your thoughts...

CONGRATS to all the mommies that saw their babies this week or found out their genders~!:)

Hello all :D I'm finally home :D

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS & WELL WISHES

After I posted Wed it hit me that there was a 99% chance that I was having surgery. 1% was hoping it was gas :/
I got to the OB ER and they were waiting for me. They redid my blood work and my WBC went back up to 14,500. As soon as they said that, I knew :( They took me up to a pre-op room for the wait, but they weren't sure what time I'd go to surgery. I spent most of the night crying and praying. Brian came to see me Thursday morning for a little while. He took Niko home to take a nap and at about 4:15 they came to get me. That is when the emotions took over. I pretty much cried from the minute I got into pre-op until I was out. Everyone was so understanding of the situation. For everyone that said, "don't worry, we'll take care of you, my response was, "take care of my baby".
Originally the physicians assistant from my OB office had said they were going to put me back into the post op floor, that I didn't need monitoring. I asked her what if I have contractions? She said I'd feel them. My thought is, if I'm drugged up how will I feel them?
Well after surgery they took me to the high risk L&D floor. I am so thankful I went there cause I started having contractions every 2 minutes for almost 1/2 hour and didn't feel them from all the pain meds :eek: They opened my IV wide open and loaded me with fluids. The contractions finally stopped. When I saw my OB yesterday I told her that the P.A. was going to send me to the regular floor and I could have went into full labor if I was there. She apologized and said she would talk to her, which I knew she would.
The high risk area was very nice. I had my own room so Brian and Niko could visit and not worry about a neighbor. Niko ran around the room the whole time and charmed all the nurses.
They were awesome there. I got to listen to the baby whenever I didn't feel right and they monitored me up until yesterday afternoon. There was a contraction here and there, but nothing major.
I came home this morning with some major pain meds. I have a 3 inch scar on my lower right abdomen which the baby has already kicked :eek: That almost made me pass out from the pain :eek: So now I just have to take it easy, watch for blood and/or cramping. Other than that, I should be ok until delivery, which is back up to 38 weeks.

AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR THE PRAYERS AND WELL WISHES

YEAH for all of you who know your babies!!...

Lil_mrs. Great belly shot!

Amurphy: I used to live in Boston after I graduated college adn worked down town at 1 International place... I so loved it there... and you are right BOSTON is expensive.

QOTD:

Is anyone experiencing cramps/spasms in their lower abdomn? Last night I did my usually routine and went the gym came home and the belly was a little achy.. crawled into bed rolled over on my side and it hurt worse (both sides for that matter)... In my mind I felt like the baby was trying to push out my belly so it has more room.. sounds silly I know.. I am not worried that something is wrong (at least I hope not) but it just plain hurts and is very annoying... I was awake until 4:00 am sitting up in bed (which is when I would get relief) finally fell asleep at 4:00 and of course the alarm went off at 5:30..:( ... I did an search about the pains.. and (I also left a message for my nurse) but I think it might be round ligament pains.... the only difference is it says sharp, short pains.. where as mine will be long lasting sharp and dull... I took some Tylenol this morning on my way in.. and that has helped so much.. but does anyone else have this issue or had this problem... (I do have a body pillow, which I just adore but last night it did not work at all... :rolleyes: )

Nikos: must have crossed posted.. glad all went well... :)

Nikosmommy I am so happy to hear the surgery went well and you are back home resting. I hope the rest of your pregnancy is uneventful!

ETA: Pink, I am glad the amnio was not too bad and that your doctor was willing to give you some reassurances. I hope the next 2 weeks fly by!

NikosMommy here's wishing u a speedy recovery. glad u're home now and that your care in the hospital was great.

QOTD i had a few of those on and off. it might be cos of the ligaments stretching. i didnt take any meds for it though it was pretty painful at times.

Pink: Glad to hear that your amnio went well. Now just relax and take it easy for awhile. :)

Nikosmommy: Yikes, what a scary situation, but it sounds like you've come through with flying colors! Take care.

Ryan: I have crampy, achy feelings in my abdomen at times, especially at night if I've been sleeping in a strange position. Maybe you just strained something at the gym and your muscles are punishing you for it. ;)

Daycare: I really don't know what it's like around here (although it's a pretty rural, smalltown area, so not nearly as bad as what some of you have to deal with) because I'm planning to work part time (hopefully sometimes from home), and my mom is going to watch the baby during the times when I go into work which makes me very happy.

Breastfeeding: I am determined to try my hardest to bf for a year. I'm planning to get an Avent Isis pump, and hopefully that will work well enough that I won't need an electric one. I have "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" at home (is that not the cheesiest title ever?), but I haven't done much other than skim it yet, and I plan to take a BFing class through my hospital. Does anyone know, do DH's usually come to BFing classes? Mine is a little leery about it, and I can't say that I blame him.

And one more little piece of news: Last night before bed the baby was kicking and I told DH, so he came over and put his hand on my belly and "boom!", his hand very visibly moved. He was like :eek: ! It was pretty cool. I'm a little concerned that if the baby can kick that hard already what it's going to feel like in a couple months! Yikes.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

Here's to a happy and healthy remaining 3-4 months!

Nikosmommy- I am so glad that you and the baby are okay... We were all so worried. I am glad that you followed your gut instinct and went into the high risk area.

Answers to belly shots- The before pic was taken was taken in Mexico on the top Chichen-Itza. We went there for our honeymoon in July. I was tempted to put a picture of me in a bathing suit in highschool but I thought you guys would figure it out.

Pink- I am so glad that things are working out for you.

QOTD- I have had some small cramps but they are usually gas. No biggie. There is so much going on in there that it could be a number of things.

Congratulations!!! to those to found out the genders of your babies.

Pink_Converse - Thank you for posting. We were all worried about you. Glad to hear that the amnio went well. :)

NikosMommy - Yay! Your surgery went well! It's good that you spoke up about going to the high risk L&D floor. Glad to hear that your baby is doing well and kicking (hmmm... except on your scar.).

Leg Cramps - I was just commenting to my husband that my leg muscles have been achy for the past couple of days. I thought that I might have worked them out without realizing it.... or that my body was fighting a cold.

QOTD (Stomach cramps) - I started to get full stomach pains last night. My guess is that my baby is growing so fast that he/she is stretching out my whole stomach. I get stomach pains late at night and it sometimes keeps me up. I was wondering if my stomach pains are from being hungry in the middle of the night. I've been so hungry these past two weeks. I think that I gained at least 5 pounds in 2 weeks. We'll see on Tuesday at my U/S. Yay! Can't wait.

Ryan ~ Definitely sounds like round ligament pain to me. I've had the same thing off and on the last week. Plus, we're due right about the same date. Try a google search and it will give explanations of what's normal. I had to do that the other day. It helped calm my nerves.

Pink ~ Glad the amnio went well. I'm sure your little one is healthy and happy in there.

nikos mommy- so glad you are doing well. we've all been on pins and needles waiting to hear how you were. rest and take care of yourself.

pink- I hope you are on the couch watching some bad daytime TV and enjoying every minute of it. you deserve it. glad things went well and you are doing okay.

QOTD- i get all kinds of cramps. my belly gets randomly tight after some of them, sometimes i get dull cramps when I move around, and I have pretty bad ones at night. My doctor tells me everytime that they are normal and will likely last throughout the entire pregnancy.

I have another question- is there anyone that is still feeling minimal movement? I have only felt the baby once or twice. I know my placenta isn't in the way, it's in the back of my uterus, but sometimes I can work up a good worry about it. just wondering if everyone is feeling regular movement or if others are still only feeling random kicks.

shaqangel

movement minimal here....i feel a lot of twitches. it mostly coming from the same area in the past week and at my appt on wed she showed me baby's feet are and i realized it was actually baby kicking and not just muscle twitches. but she did tell me that i have an anterior placenta so i wont feel baby kick as strongly yet - in a few more weeks i will.

Pink ~ Glad to hear that everything went well and good for you for doing so well at the amnio. It must be such a relief that it's over and that the dr. was so positive. Take it easy for the next few days, make sure your DH takes good care of you.

Nikosmommy ~ So glad to see you back and to hear that all is well again. Hopefully you have a speedy recovery.

Shaq - QOTD ~ You have an 'Anterior Placenta' too. I do as well and although I have only felt the baby once (where I knew it was the baby and not gas) I'm sure some of the 'other' things I've been feeling must be the baby...I just can't tell for sure. Here's hoping both our babies start to kick through the placenta (I know he's moving, I just want to feel it for sure.)

Lil_Mrs ~ Congrats on your little surpise...your pictures are great and my favourite is the little alien one (face on) we have a pic like that and everyone has commented on how he looks just like an alien. Thankfully he's my little alien though! And your belly pics look great... I must take another one tonight.

Gaffy ~ I didn't realize my due date buddy was leaving me for an earlier date. That's great that the baby measuring so far ahead though. I think my baby is measuring a little small actually for my due date of June (although the M/W said it wasn't anything to worry about or to change my date) but even after the dating ultrasound, she's sticking with the May 30th date based on my LMP. I guess it's not an exact science, is it?

Ryan ~ I haven't really experienced pains like you described, although I do get quick sharp pains every once in awhile, nothing that sticks around. Although last night I was so uncomfortable after eating dinner, it was awful. I went to bed and luckily slept through the night, but I'm definitely not getting the restful sleep I was even a week ago. Hopefully it doesn't return tonight.

Found out Wednesday that we're havina BOY! We're both really excited. I totally thought it was a girl. We enjoyed 10 days in Prague & Vienna, returning this past Monday. I had some ligament pain the whole time but nothing too terrible. I've still only gained 2 lbs. at 19w6d - I hope that is okay with my OB. Will find out next week.

Congrats Sarah on your little boy.

Feeling the baby- It's a hit or miss for me. I don't feel the baby on a regular basis even though from the u/s yesterday it looks really active. I can usually feel it after I have dinner, I lay on the couch and wait for it to start acting up. Only every once in a while will I feel it in the middle of the day, but that's pretty rare.

Pink – Glad that everything went well. You must be relieved that its over with. From what your doctor thinks, it looks like everything will be just fine. Hang in there!

Nikos- How scary! So glad that everything went well with the surgery. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

QOTD (movement): I haven’t really felt the baby move either. Which doesn’t really surprise me b/c I didn’t feel my DS until I was about 5.5 months.

QOTD (cramps): Ocassionally I feel cramps, but nothing major. It’s normally a sharp pain that goes away after a few minutes. I think its mostly due to ligament stretching

QOTD (bf classes): I didn’t bring my DH to my BF class. When I went there was only ONE person that brought their DH and he looked so uncomfortable the entire time. I think it’s neat if they want to participate, but it’s not necessary.

Pink – glad things went well and for your doctors reassurance. I find that the reassurance only works while I’m in the doc office. Once I leave it goes out the window. I’m going back for another u/s since the sonographer said she didn’t get a good look at the heart. Of course I keep asking myself if there is a problem that they are not telling me about.

Ryan - so far I have not had any long lasting pains

Graffy – I think it would be nice to have DH at the breastfeeding course. Two sets of ears are better than one. When the going gets tough he may remember something you forget. On the flip…he could get on your nerves trying to tell you what to do.
Shoulda – I feel minimal movements. So far I’ve only felt them during the day. It is sorta freaky. Makes me think of the movie Aliens.

Sarahncraig – Congrats on your boy.

pink good to get reassurance form your doc. Like you said, since they usually don't say anything it is nice when they do - you know that they must really mean it.

NikosMommy, I'm glad to hear that you're back home and that you and the baby are fine. Get lots of rest!

movement I was feeling a lot but this week he's been much quieter. Of course I'm freaking out, but I try to remind myself that it is early to be feeling a ton of movement. He seems to get super active if I eat a bunch of sugar and I've been trying to cut back, so maybe that's why.

20 weeks!!!! Halfway there. Where does the time go?? :D :eek: :D :eek:

HUGE CONGRATS to all the mommies who know the sex, and big kudos to those who were strong about not finding out!

Nikos~ So glad your ok hon. Glad to know all our thoughts and prayers worked ;)

So we are registering tomorrow and I'm so excited! DH is too and I even caught him looking in the Baby Bargains book at what I highlighted. He did ask me if I was planning on going back to take the "dumb things" that he puts on there off, lol. I gently reminded him that these things we need, unlike our wedding registry where he wanted a $100 coffee maker and a breadmaker(which we got,didnt use and i took back!:rolleyes: )

movement yeah baby keeps me up all night, LOVES loud music (or maybe kicks me because he hates it. lol) rolling around and kung-foo'ing all over the place. I swear I felt it on the outside last night but DH still can't and we can't wait for the day when he can!

New QOTD? Has anyone had problems with unwanted people touching your belly??
I have ladies at my work that I've known for a year or two and they try to touch me everyday.The other day I stepped back, because I didn't feel like getting touched right then, and she rolled her eyes at me and walked away!! I love it when DH and my mom rub it, but not strangers. Hmmm I can see this becoming more of a problem as I grow.

Have a great weekend ladies!!

movement: I've been feeling the baby a few times a day since week 15. However, I noticed an increase in frequency this week. My little one is really shaking things up today.

QOTD: Has anyone had problems with unwanted people touching your belly?? My MIL tried to touch my belly a few weeks ago but I pulled away and said it was too early for that stuff. I must be hiding the belly, or people don't really look at me., because I mentioned in conversation with a coworker today that I'm pregnant and she had no idea. That may explain why I haven't had much unwanted attention.

Ryan: I am so proud of you. By the way, I was thinking of you while at the gym today (after a long hiatus). My stomach was tightening up and I had dull cramps for a few minutes. I'm sure it is all normal pregnancy stuff....and I'm glad to hear the Tylenol helped you out.

Nikosmommy I am so happy to hear that all went well. Good for you for speaking up about going to the high risk floor! I hope the baby takes it easy on your scar!

Sarah Congratulation's on your little boy!

Does anyone know, do DH's usually come to BFing classes? Mine is a little leery about it, and I can't say that I blame him My DH did. And there were lots of other DH's there too. I think that it is a good idea for him to go, that way he will be able to help you out when you need it.:)

QOTD: Has anyone had problems with unwanted people touching your belly? Not yet. I just don't get how people can just touch one's belly without asking first! lol!

Movement I seem to feel my baby moving all during the day. I mean not constantly, but sporaticly throughout the day.:D

QOTD – There is only one person at work who touches my belly. I don’t see her that often so I don’t mind. She doesn’t ask but she does warn me first. MIL hasn’t touched it…only commented on it. She use to touch me a lot before I was pregnant and I think she picked up that I didn’t like it. Not many people know so maybe that is the reason. So far no strangers have approached me. Due to the cold weather, I’m usually bundled up when I’m out. If I wear a fitted shirt I definitely have a noticeable belly.

NikosMommy – Glad that things are going well.

Nikos Mommy so glad you and baby are doing okay. We were worried!

Movement I haven't felt anything yet. Is that weird? My OB asked the other night if I was feeling movement yet and when I said no she didn't seem too worried, but I'm anxious.

Unwanted belly touching my BIL touched my stomach last weekend, just patted it and said "see you later, mom", and it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It was nice to know that I don't just look fat. :o

Has anyone had problems with unwanted people touching your belly?"]Has anyone had problems with unwanted people touching your belly?

Not yet. When I was PG with my DS, ppl used to rub my belly all the time though. It only annoys me when I don't know the person very well. I would cringe if my MIL even attempted to touch me. ;)

One my LJ buddies sells these T-shirts though...and I think they are hilarious. (And super cute!)

Niko's Mommy, I'm so glad everything went well and that you are home and resting! Take care of yourself!!

Ryan, My uterus felt "achy" for a while, especially when I used the potty in the mornings, but it has gone away. I do get spasms in my lower abdomen, but they aren't painful... it's hard to distinguish them from kicks. I was told it was round ligament pain... I would be interested to hear what your OB says.

Threadmistress, can you please change my u/s date from 2/7 to 2/1? We will hopefully be finding out the gender :) Thanks!!

Pink - I'm so glad that you're amnio went well today, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that the results are wonderful.

Niko's Mommy - welcome back! I hope you have a speedy and uneventful recovery!

Ryan - Yes, I've been having pains too. It occurs more frequently when I work out or something physical. My OB told me she thought it was round ligament pain too.

Movement - I think I finally found our little peanut move for the first time on Wednesday! I was sitting on the couch reading and felt something that at first I thought was gas. But the second time I felt it, it definitely felt like someone was trying to get my attention. Haven't felt it since though.

Can I ask another question? Seeing everyone's belly shots, where you all look so amazing and actually pregnant has me sort of frustrated. I know I'm on the tail end of this thread (18w0d today), but I still don't feel like I have much of a belly. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm shocked that I've already gained about 8 lbs, but it's all just going to my butt and thighs. Is anyone else feeling Not Pregnant yet, or are you all just popping out? I'm hoping I just POP any day now, but perhaps I just won't for a while?

kmmommy

popping ~ I popped out about 1 1/2 weeks ago - 18 1/2 weeks at that time and this is my 2nd baby. I popped out with DS much sooner than this time. I know many women who don't show until 20 weeks or later. Nothing to worry about - your belly will be huge soon enough. :)

THANK YOU ALL for the well wishes. It really touches my heart to know that I have so many people supporting me :o

Today was uneventful. I was given 2 percoset's before I left the hosp for the ride home. Well, they worked really well ;) So well that I slept from 11 to 4. And I'm still tired.

I had to break down around 8 tonight and take a vicodin though. I'm just really sore. I'm also black & blue around my scar now.

My problem of sleeping on my right side has now been solved, I can't do it. My back isn't that comfortable either, it puts pressure on my side so I lay on my left side now most of the time.

I had to chuckle about the unwaranted belly touches. I've had enough of those in the past week to last a life time. Every dr, nurse and it felt like hosp worker who saw me touched my belly, but not for the baby, to see how and where the pain was. I really believe that if they would have laid off the belly it wouldn't have hurt so much.

Tonight Niko was sitting on the couch next to me and he pulled my shirt up. Even though I scrubbed, I still have betadine on my stomach and the big 'Yes' that they made me write on my belly so the dr would know where he was supposed to be. Also tons of little dots that he added after I was in surgery. So he sees all of this and starts to rub my belly and say "aww". I took his hand and said baby and put his hand on my abdomen. We did this a few times. Brian comes back in the room and I ask Niko where's the baby and he points to his own belly. It was so cute and priceless.

Well I just got yelled at from Brian for being online and not sleeping so I have to go before I get grounded. I'll try to come back soon.

NikosMommy-Oh my gosh I am so glad all is going well with you and the baby. What a scary scary time. I hope that you heal quickly and that the rest of the pregnancy is totally uneventful.

Movement-It's been very sporadic but eversince the u/s on Thursday I seem to have been feeling him/her more often and more strongly. Not sure if it's just that I'm more positive on things I'm feeling since I've seen it actually moving and know it's not just "in my head" anymore or whether it's just getting stronger. Either way I'm enjoying it but before this week it's been extremely sporadic and barely noticable.

Popping-Still in my normal clothes here. Some of my shorts I'm starting to undo the button if I'm sitting for long periods of time but that's only just started this week. I'm in that "people must think I eat too much chocolate stage" and I'm ready to have a PREGNANT looking belly but I know that it'll come soon enough so I'll enjoy not having it yet...but I really want to be big enough to keep my cute denim JC Penney maternity capris up....:cool: I wore them earlier in the week and kept hiking them up all the time coz they are still a bit big.

Unwanted touching-Not much. Some people touch but they're the people I'm closest too or see irregularly enough not to bother me. I'm a touchy feely person anyway so if someone wants to rub it then it's fine but I'll be rather cranky if strangers or someone I don't really know comes up and touches without asking. That'll urk me off no end....:mad:

Well hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. It was so beautiful here today that I went for a swim at the beach! :D Ah bliss...sunny summer days.

Question: What would you think if you heard a "horror" story about your doctor? My friend, who is also PG and sees the same doctor as me, was told a kinda bad story about our doctor by a woman at work that involved this woman's sister. My friend and I have both been seeing this doctor for years and have always thought that he's wonderful. My friend was also told by someone different who works at the hospital that he's an amazing doctor. I think it was wrong of the woman to tell her this story knowing she's PG, and would be worrying about it. I'm thinking that I'm sure that something did happen to this woman's sister, but how does she know that it was the doctor's fault? She's not a doctor and couldn't know all of the factors involved in whatever happened. But it's still in the back of my mind now. What would you think?

01-21-2006, 10:04 AM
jbenny, If I really loved the doctor and have not had any problems, and I knew other pg women who loved him and didn't have any problems, I would keep seeing him. Sometimes people can be overdramatic about things and without knowing both sides of the story, it is hard to know what is true and what is exaggeration.

That's what I'm thinking. I looked up his license online this morning and he's been licensed since 1982, his license is in good standing, and he's never had any disciplinary actions taken against him.

Then I would definitely say stick with him. It is so hard to find a dr you love who is reputable!

jbennyMy aunt was being overly dramatic about he hosiptal I am delivering at, since a former co-worker of ours ended up having all these problems and had an emergency c-section and her Dr. sucked and she delivered at that hospital. Her DOCTOR sucked, not the hospital :rolleyes: . But she insisted I deliver at the hospital her grandaughter was delivered at. I told her NO of course. I'm not going to change doctors, I've had him for like 6 years. Why would I change over something like that? People are so weird sometimes. There really are two sides to every story.

jbenny: I'm an editor for a healthcare publishig company and have learned that patients perceptions of their physicians can very wildly. You should stick with your current physician if you've had a great experience with him, trust him, and feel comfortable with him.

Short update: I continue to feel more and more pregnant. My belly is getting bigger and this baby is moving so much. We went out last night to a bar and the music really got the baby going. It was pretty cool! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! :D

Good Sunday Morning everyone!

Just got up (with no kids yet, I'm enjoying my sleep-in weekends while I can) and thought I would check in.

Nikosmommy ~ So glad to see you posting (eventhough you should be resting!) but it's great to see everything has worked out so well and you are on the mend. I agree that you should resist trying to pick up Niko too quickly and enjoy all the pampering your DH is sure to give.

Movement ~ I'm so jealous to hear of all the movement stories, as I still haven't felt our little one move on a consistent basis. I know he's fine in there and totally active, I just wish I could feel him. Even the chocolate I have been indulging in isn't doing the trick...soon I hope!

Had a wonderful day yesterday. I finally made the decision to go and BUY the crib that DH and I both liked. My parents are actually visiting my sister this weekend and are planning to bring back the crib that my sister had, but after thinking about it forever, I decided that we wanted the newer one. So I did it...and I'm so relieved and excited about it.

It's actually a CaraMia crib in Antique White (don't have any pictures as their web-site sucks) but if anyone has Baby Bargains, could you tell me how their cribs rate. Thanks!

I also took my best friend with me and registered yesterday at Toys R Us (up here it's all one store, the babies section is in the big store.) It was great having someone who knew what we would need, what we shouldn't bother with and what brands she would recommend. So it was great to have that done. I'm going to have to tweak it a bit, but otherwise it looks pretty good.

That's about it for us. DH and I are heading to Walmart to pick up some stuff and maybe head to look at some new model homes that just opened close to us (reminds me of that scene in Old School 'We have a busy day tomorrow...heading to BB&B and if we have time we'll hit Home Depot.') So nothing too exciting, but relaxing all the same.

Have a great day everyone!

Mrs Brownie, Yay for buying a crib! Baby Bargains rates Cara Mia as a B- due to questionable quality. But for the price, it seems to be standard.

MrsBrownie: Can I just say how jealous I am of your sleeping in. Mia had me up by 6:30 this morning and that is sleeping in for us anymore. Enjoy it!

jbenny: I'd stick with your doc. If you heard that horror story and were already unsure for some reason, it would be a reason to switch. However, it sounds like you like and trust him. Unfortunately things can go wrong medically that a doc has no real control over, and as amurphy said, patients can often perceive things very differently than how they really happen.

jbenny You might consider mentioning it to your doctor if you have a good relationship. He may be able to give you reassurances. Mostly, I agree with the other posters. If you feel comfortable with your doc and trust him to give you full information during your pg and labor, that is the most important thing.

I just wanted to drop in to add that we just picked up our copy of Baby Bargains and I am now mourning the loss of our Pottery Barn Kids bedding. I had one picked out for a girl and one for a boy and was going to splurge on this item. but with a rating of a C, I just can't do it. so sad. so very sad.

thanks for all the reassuring comments on the movement. It just seems so sporadic that it makes me nervous. But i know I'll be reassured at my ultrasound on the 31st.

Mrs Brownie- I slept in this morning too. definiteyl taking advantage of it before time runs out!!!!

my 19th week just started out wonderful ... NOT ... M/S this morning - BLAH! :( now my face looks horrible (purple splotches-broken blood vessels) - I did not even want to come to work but I did cause it is Monday & Mondays are always rough esp when everyone is not here.

sleeping in: I've been trying to sleep in (on the weekends), take a nap on the weekends or go to bed early - I know my days of sleeping in are numbered.

u/s: 1 wk & 3 days til my next u/s :)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Sunshine: sorry you are feeling so icky...

jbenny: if you are ok w/ your doctor then that is all that matters....

Shoulda: I am going to have to buy this baby bargains book.... I am going to try to do that today.

~~~~~~~~~
UPDATE: Baby B is definately kicking around up a storm... I started feeling it on Friday (when I was having all those ligament pains, which BTW the nurse said that was what it was and to take it easy) ... I had DH put his hand on my belly and you could feel it bumping around in there.. so strange.. but a good strange... :D
We also started to register on Saturday and we were laughing so hard walking into the store... all you saw were pregnant woman and their husbands just walking in.. no kids, no single moms, no grandmothers... Dh said we all look like zombi's walking into the store.. lol so funny! After 2 hours of only getting thru a 1/4 of the store.. DH & I were completely overwhelmed and had to leave....
I do have some questions for you ladies:
1. baby Monitors: do any of you have any suggestions...
2. Swing or a bouncer that can be a swing??? (See Dh & I live in a small townhouse and not much room for alot of these gadgets... so I am trying to combine items if necessary... ) So any thoughts (especially from our 2nd time mommies) would be great.
Happy Snowy nasty monday in NY...
Hey girls! I'm leaving in 1 hour for my u/s! I'm excited and a bit nervous.
Sunshine ~ Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Hope the m/s is just a fluke.
Baby Monitors ~ We have the Sony BabyCall and love it. It has 27 channels, is very clear and the battery life on our receiver is really good. I'd recommend it to anyone. Only $50 at Toys 'R Us. Here's a picture.
http://www.hotbuyselectronics.com/images/sony_ntm910.jpg
Swings/bouncers ~ If you're tight on space I'd recommend the Fisher-Price take-along Aquarium swing. That's what we used in our apartment when DS was born and he loved it. It's easy to move from room to room and folds up nicely for storage. DS didn't like the bouncer so I guess I don't have any recs there. I do believe that FP makes a bouncer/rocking chair combo but I can't seem to find it now.
All right, off to empty my bladder and fill up my water bottle! :D
Can't wait to hear from Kaeden's Mommy!!!!
Sunshine-Aren't we supposed to be over this by now? Hope the MS was a fluke too.
Does anyone else feel kind of overwhelmed that they haven't bought much for the baby yet? I feel like we are going to wait until the last minute and go into debt over this kid :rolleyes: ! I keep telling DH we need to buy one big thing every paycheck but it always gets put off. We are "supposed" to be getting our stroller soon, maybe that will make me feel better for a while.
I didn't think I looked that huge yet........:confused: She turned beat red when I told her I had over 4 months to go!
Baby Bargains – I have the 5th edition and I know there is a 6th edition. In the 5th edition she mentions if certain reviews or recommendations differ from her previous edition. Does she do a lot of this in the 6th edition? I’m debating whether to buy the latest. At some point I may flip through a copy at the book store to help with the decision.
Sleep – My rough nights have returned. I wake up at least once because I’m uncomfortable or just can’t fall back to sleep. I’ve tried using pillow but that doesn’t seem to help and is actually more uncomfortable. I find laying on DH to be somewhat comfortable. I hope I can come of with a solution.
Register – Dh and I decided we would registers sometime after my next appt on Feb 17 (with u/s of heart). I’ll be 22 weeks. We may go that evening or the next day which happens to be a Saturday. I would prefer not to go on a weekend, but since I know what I want I shouldn’t need much assistance. My wish list is pretty complete. I have about 50 items (not counting multiples). I’m sure I’ll add a few other things that are not online.
Baby’s Room – We made a lot of progress this weekend. We had a lot of clean up to do since the room had been our office for over a year. We got the bookshelves and the desk out. We moved in the daybed and the rug. We still need to clean out the closet. My parents should be up in a few weeks with the crib and dresser. We will definitely need more storage than just the dresser. I need baskets for diapers and diaper covers. I found a few storage racks for the closet from IKEA. I went through the clothes I have so far and separated them by size. I did go to Children’s Place on Saturday and picked up a few “blue” outfits. This is so exciting.
Pink – We have not bought any major items. I am going to wait and see what we get at our shower. Our registry won’t be very long so I’m hoping we will get most of it. I was tempted to buy a stroller last week, but DH brought me down to earth. I’m pretty set on one of the Combi strollers.
Ryan – what a registry experience. 2hrs for ¼ of the store. I hope that since I have a list already that it won’t take us that long, but I know that once we are there I will want to see and touch every single thing.
Baby monitors – not sure what I want. I keep changing my mind. DH wants a video monitor, but I’m trying to convince that we don’t need that.
I’ll be lurking for u/s updates.
Kaeden'smommy I'm waiting with baited breath to hear what Kaeden's sibling is! I'm thinking girl too. We've gotta catch up with the boy moms! Maybe all the surprises are girls!:D
Anyone know the count now? 11 boys 4 girls + surprises?
swings and bouncers I don't have good recommendations because R loved the swing and hated the bouncer and Wyatt was content to hang out in the bouncer but hated the swing! The bouncer is smaller though, so if you are low on space, you might consider skipping the swing until you decide whether you need it or not.
Well, even though we're not finding out the gender, I'm still excited about my big U/S tomorrow!!! I'm trying to be more excited than nervous, since I know they're checking for lots of stuff.
In bigger news - I felt the baby move - from the outside - for the first time! I was laying in bed on Saturday and felt a 'bump'. I put my hand on my belly and actually felt it from the outside. I am so psyched. DH was out, so he hasn't really felt it yet.
Congrats to connorsmommy on your BOY! Hoping everything is well - will they do more measurements or tests? Hope you had a relaxing trip.
Congrats to sarahncraig on your BOY!
Congrats to Lil Mrs on your gender neutral baby! You might want to re-edit your post - you mention names!!
Congrats to lawyerwifemom on your GIRL!
I'm glad there are a few of us still in the gender surprise category! I have to admit, it makes it harder not to know when I 'know' so many women finding out! I didn't think I would have such a hard time!!
Mystikal I started having sciatica as well last week. I went to the chiropractor and I'm doing much better. I was in tears twice, though, when I couldn't stop the pain.
Pink glad your amnio went without a hitch. Hope the next 2 weeks go quickly to set your mind at ease.
NikosMommy So glad to hear you're doing better and that you and baby did well through the surgery. Hopefully the second 1/2 of the pregnancy will be uneventful!
Baby Bargains - I got that book and just started to read a few chapters this weekend. We are picking up a crib from a friend shortly, so I was looking into furniture and bedding. I've found it pretty helpful since many stores don't carry all the manufacturers, even though you can order online!
bella band got one in black a few weeks back and have been using it to hold up the maternity wear. It's pretty good, but my hips are so much wider than my waist sometimes it slides around and ends up bunched up around my waist :rolleyes:
childcare cost we're outside NYC and although I haven't truly investigated, I'm going to assume at least $300/wk for a center. Perhaps less for an at-home provider. The more it costs, the more I need to stay home.
tummy touchers so far my neighbor (75 yrs old, when I was about 13weeks, so nothing to feel) and my cousin's wife (at 17w). I can't figure out why people want to touch my belly when there was nothing more than my usual flab at that point! I joked with both about being 'tummy touchers'.
Baby Bargins: I have the 6th edition and noticed that there are several instances in the book where the authors note that their recommendation changed from the year before. I spent Sunday morning reading through the entire book. Exhausting! I really found the last few pages of each chapter the most informative--the section where they actually rate the products. It can be boring to read each and every product description!
After reading through the book, DH and I headed out to Baby Depot. It was a bust. The store was crap. So we went over to Babies R Us. DS2003, I think we are going with Combi too. The 2006 models are in the store...but I left feeling a bit confused. It looks like Babies R Us is now only selling the Cosmo EX, which is made exclusively for them. We tried everything out in our car and it all fits, but I would like to check out the dimensions/features and compare with Combi's other strollers. However, the Combi site is so frustrating. It lists the dimensions for some of the strollers and not for others. I emailed Combi this morning to ask for this information. Hope I hear back soon. Which model are you considering?
We haven't bought anything for the baby yet (with the exception of some clothes). I may use the crib we had for my sister but I have to check the safety features of that when I'm at my Mom's house at the end of next month. If the crib passes the safety test, we should be all set except for a changing pad. We currently have a twin bed, a tall dresser, and a short dresser in the room that will become the nursery.
I'm not sure if I'll have a baby shower. They really aren't the norm in my family. My parents would rather us just tell them what we want for the major purchases and they'll buy it for us. My MIL mentioned throwing us a shower, which might be nice so that we can get the smaller items that I wouldn't bother asking my parents to buy.
It is snowing like crazy here in Boston! I think I'll go clean the snow off my car now and sneak out to the gym in case the office closes early. Take care, everyone!
I hope everyone is having a good Monday. It took me over 2.5 hours to drive in to work this morning (normally takes 1 hour) so that was not a great start. I have to go grocery shopping in a few minutes since I was too lazy to go last night, but Iwanted to catch up and answer a few QOTDs.
Baby monitor We have the Bebe Sounds Angel Care monitor and I would defintiely recommend it. It was a sensor that goes under the baby's mattress and can tell if there is the slightest movement (like from breathing). If the motion stops for more than 20 seconds, an alarm goes off. This gave me great peace of mind when our DD was very young. Once they start squirming around the crib too much then you have to turn off the breathing sensor because the alarm goes off if they squirm off of the pad, but by then they are usually out of the dangerous age for SIDS.
Bouncer/swing We used both, but it is really a baby's individual preference. The ful-sized swing is definitely a space hog, though. Plus it uses 4 D cell batteries that don't last that long!
childcare cost I live in the Boston area and we pay $1355 a month for our toddler. Infant care is slightly more, but I'm not sure how much. DD attends a non-chain center in our town. I think we pay a low-average amount for the area.
Swings/Bouncer We have both, but I don't see the swing as a much of necessity. We probably could have did w/o it and saved a lot of space in the process. I would definitely recommend a bouncer though b/c they can sleep/eat/plat in it. Esp ones with a vibrate mode. That was a godsend. It always put our DS to sleep really quickly. We registered for this one:
Combi – I was initially considering the Savvy Soho, but when I went to BRU I saw that same as amurphy…mostly the EX. I compared the EX and the Savvy Soho and for the most part they look the same. I did notice that the EX has a pocket on the back that the Savvy Soho does not have. The EX appears to be comparable to slightly more “featuristic” than the Savvy Soho.
Amurphy – I think I may need to run to B&N for a quick browse of the 6th edition. We have a crib and I’m pretty much set on which stroller so unless I see some really important changes I may not get it. What I want to find is a review on the new Graco Safeseat Infant Carseat. Do you know if it is in there? I need to check the consumer reports website too.
Lawyerwifemom – cute swimsuits.
Swing – if you do want a swing space hog, one of the manufacturers has come out with a swing you plug in. I think it is Fisher Price.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I don't have any answers to the QOTD since this is our first one. The baby will be sleeping with us but we still bought a monitor for if I want to leave the room while the baby naps or something.
I talked to one of my old friends and she is going to be bringing me all of her 9-12 months boy's clothes and a ton of his old stuff. He's a year old so by the time the baby comes she will have a ton of stuff for me. Just in case.;)
So I had something weird happen last night. It felt like the back of my belly button was being pushed and pulled. I don't know if it was just the baby moving right behind there or if it is something else. I'm assuming the baby is okay since I felt it moving around this morning. It's getting a lot more active this week.
Hello All :D
I'm feeling better, but still a little beaten :/ MrsBrownie We have a laptop w/wireless DSL on it so I post from bed :)
Brian went back to work today so it's just Niko and I :eek: It's a little overwhelming and I'm exhausted and haven't really done anything. He just went down for a nap so I figured before I fall asleep I'd check in here. I really haven't had to pick him up except for getting him out of his crib this morning and putting him back in for nap. I changed a poopie on the floor.
My dogs were kind enough to empty out the garbage bag for me this morning so I had to clean that up when I got up :rolleyes:
I called the dr to see if it's normal that I feel this exhausted and she said yes. I am struggling to keep my eyes open. She said if I'm not feeling better by Thur to call them.
So I don't have enough stress when Brian asks me last night if I've come up with a name yet. I told him the 3 I picked so far he doesn't like but at least I have the middle name. He asks what it is and I tell him Robert for his dad. He starts in that we can't use that cause his dad won't like it and he doesn't want to use it. Um hello, his dad isn't having this baby, we are. I try to explain that I want to use it as a way to show respect and he's totally against it. Ok, so be against it, but are you going to help me with names? No :mad:
I feel so bad that I don't have a name for him yet. The whole time I was in the hosp everyone kept asking his name. All I thought to myself was if something happens to him he doesn't have a name yet :( I felt so bad about it. Now I have to deal with finding 2 names - AAAHHHHH!!!
Niko's middle name is for my dad. I want this ones middle name to be for someone too, not just a name we picked randomly. I even asked Brian for his grandfathers name, Erlich. I'd use that name too but he doesn't want to use that one either.
So that's my dilema :/
Add one more for the PINK TEAM because we're having a girl!!!
She was moving around so much that the u/s took over an hour because they couldn't get all her measurements. Everything is looking good. She had her legs spread wide apart and even I could tell it was a girl. The u/s tech said she was as sure as she's allowed to be that we're having a girl.
We had Kaeden with us and he squealed and clapped when she said it's a girl.
Congratulations, Kaeden's Mom :D
DS: The 6th edition rates the Graco Snugride as their top choice, but I don't remember if they specifically reviewed the Safeseat. I'll check that out for you tonight. Did you try the Graco seat out with the EX? We are leaning toward the Combi EX carseat that fits perfectly with the stroller because it is a tiny bit smaller than the Graco and therefore fits better in our Mini. (Boy, the baby gear talk is exhausting!)
NikosMommy: I'm so glad you are feeling better, but I'm sure the fatigue is awful. Hope the dogs start behaving and giving you a well-deserved break! Did your DH give you a reason why he and his Dad wouldn't want you to use Robert as the middle name? Why wouldn't someone feel honored by such a gesture? I wish there were a name that my DH and I LOVED. It would make this baby-naming busy so much easier.
Lil_Mrs_0702: I had that bellybutton feeling this weekend too! When I felt my tummy, it was definitely harder where I felt that sensation. Must be the baby pushing and kicking away.
lawyerwifemom: Cute!
shamocha17: Good luck at the U/S tomorrow! I've heard great things about the bouncy seat you posted and it is so cute!
Kaeden’s Mommy – Congrats on joining the pink team.
NikosMommy – DH may come around with names as you get closer to delivery. My DH hasn’t had any names to offer for boys names.
Amurphy – How does the Combi car seat rate. I haven’t looked it since the very beginning. Our plan was to get a Graco Snugride and an infant car seat frame like a Snap-n-go. The combi stroller is so compact that maybe I will look at their car seat again. We had agreed on the infant car seat frame since the Travel System strollers are so cumbersome. What I like about the new Graco Safeseat is you can use it up to 30lbs and 32in rear facing.
KaedensMom~ Congrats on the GIRL, at least the girl mom's are catching up! I like the name you chose too, it's so pretty.
Nikosmommy ~ Glad to hear that things are on the mend, and from personal experience, the exhaustion is pretty normal (especially when dealing with a toddler too.) My last surgery, it took me a good week or two before the anesthesia was out of my system and I felt normal, tired but normal. So try to take it easy and don't even worry about baby names now.
Babynames ~ We have a boys name that we love (it took awhile to grow on me, especially since I thought we were having a girl) but I figure, no matter how much prep we do with baby names, when we finally meet our little one, all the names may go out the window. My sister had a name chosen for my nephew, but when he was born with fair skin and red hair that he didn't suit the name they had chosen. So, we will probably have 5 or 6 names that we both agree on and make a final decision once we meet our baby...although odds are pretty good that we will go with the first name we chose if appropriate.
This may seem like a dumb question, but for first time mom's (or 2nd timers if you can remember) ~ Do you consider yourself a Mommy/Mom/Mother yet? And if you do, are you comfortable referring to youself as 'Mom'?
I was thinking this morning that it was time that I broke out my Dr.Seuss book and started reading to our baby. And then I started saying to myself that 'Mommy was going to read to you (baby) tonight.' To be honest though, it didn't really sit right with me. I realize that I will be a Mom to someone soon, but am I a mom yet. Should I talk to my baby in terms as a Mom? I know, sounds stupid, but just something I wondered about and thought I would see what others thought.
Thanks for the opinions!
Kaeden’s Mommy – I love Mackenzie. Maybe I can convince DH for baby #2. Right now he is a definite NO.
MrsBrownin – I don’t’ refer to my self as a mom yet, but my DH and some of our family do. . Although I definitely have a baby belly, I’d say that I don’t consider myself a mom yet. Maybe I will once I feel the baby more. Right now it is occasional. I think you should talk to the baby as mom. Now that I think of it, I probably do that too. I started reading to the baby last week.
Thanks for the compliments on the name Mackenzie! We really love it and I love the it's an Irish name that means leader. I totally plan to peruse the name books anyway - just in case.
DS: BB rated the Combi as the best LATCH infant seat. I keep going back and forth about getting just the stroller frame but as you said, the Combi Ex is so compact that the frame seems unnecessary.
Kaeden’s Mommy: Pretty name!
MrsBrownie: I hadn't even thought of referring to myself as "Mom," but your question got me thinking. We are Moms and it's time we get used to the idea. (I haven't started reading to the baby yet, but I've been singing songs in the car during my commute a lot more often!) :D
The baby was pretty quiet after the gym, but the spicy V8 and an orange has him or her kicking away now. :D
Refering to self- I have been calling myself Mom since I found out that I was pegnant. I guess it just came naturally. Especially when the baby kicking when I'm in the middle of something I'm like "Hey, quit kicking your mother!"
We also had a dog together and refered to ourselves as Mom and Dad to her so I guess we already had practice.
Lil_Mrs I'm with you. DH and I have been referring to ourselves as "mom" and "dad" since we got our dog four years ago, so I'm already calling myself mom to the baby. :D
bottleored I'm sorry you're having the sciatic pain, too. I hope it gets better with the chiropracter. I've been stretching it a bit and it feels much better now. I actually slept all night long Friday!
I guess I'm starting to look pregnant. One of the students where I work asked me today if I was pregnant. I had an instructor tell me the other day that I've really popped. It's nice to know I'm not just fat anymore. :D
kaedensmommyCongrats on your girl! I love the name you have picked out. It's very pretty.
do you feel like a mommy yet? DH and I have been Mommy and Daddy to our dogs for four years now, so the name doesn't feel weird to me. However, the thought of being an actual Mommy to a human baby still hasn't sunk in to me.
QOTD Infant carriers/carseats. When I had DS the Graco Snugfit was the safetst one rated by Consumer reports. I was just looking now at consumer reports and it looks like the Britax Companion and Safety First Designer are the safest one. Which infant carrier are you guys going with? Or are you just going with a convertable carseat from the beginning?
ds2003
01-24-2006, 05:14 AM
QOTD - Right now I'm looking at the GracoRide, Graco Safeseat and the Combi Centre EX. You will also have to keep in mind that Consumer Reports has not rated the new 2006 model carseats yet. Things do change from year to year. I am eagerly waiting for an updated report. I'm definitely going for the infant seat instead of the convertable seat for convenience. The infant seat are better recommended because the angle.
Infant seats: We'll be using our Graco Snugride from last time around. I thought about using a convertable to save money from the beginning, but it's really convenient to have the carrier (especially when they fall asleep in the car). We have a Combi stroller and the car seat fits just fine on there.
Feeling like a mom: I'll never forget when Mia was just a few days old. Her belly button started to ooze and I was worried. I called the ped office and said this is Mia's Mom, Erinn. After I hung up it hit me- I'm now officially someone's Mom. I never referred to myself as Mom before that point- I'll also never forget that moment.
Kaeden's Mommy: Congrats on your little girl. I also love the name. I've always been fond of Morgan- one of the girls I work with, her daughter is Morgan.
Nothing new to report here. I have my ultrasound in 2 days:D . I'm really anxious to see this baby. Unless for some reason we cave in, it'll be a surprise. We didn't know with Mia, and I liked not knowing. I do feel more pull this time to find out, but DH says he doesn't want to know. We'll be taking Mia with us to start introducing her to the idea that there really is a baby in my belly. It should be fun.
Kaaden: Yeah for your girl!!!
Thanks to everyone who responded re: the baby monitor and swings…and Kaaden, I am going to try to find that combo like you suggested w/ the swing and the bouncer… that is what I think we will need.
Lawyer: Love those suits.. so darn cute…
Do I feel like a mom: I am like Jbenny.. we have had a dog for 4 years and we parents to her but not sure if it has sunken in for a human just yet.
Good luck w/ the ultra sounds today… !!! We have ours tonight as well.. kinda nervous.. but do not want to think about it because then the day will go by SOOO much slower.
Jay&erin – just to make sure I understand… Your Graco Snugride fits into your Combi Stroller? Which stroller do you have? Does the carseat fit well into the stroller?
Now that the baby’s room is really the baby’s room (other than the closet), I find that I go in there in the evenings, lay on the rug and play with baby stuff. I can hardly wait until we get the crib and dresser.
Good morning everyone...so excited about all the U/S results today...can't wait!
M/S hit again yesterday and today...it's my fault really, as I forgot to take my 'Magic-No M/S-Pills' yesterday. Clearly I am not over the M/S stage yet, nor is it all in my head as some have suggested. Must make sure to take these on a much more regular basis to avoid this not-so-nice feeling in my tummy.
Other than that, things are well...I'm going through a stage right now (sorry, don't mean to offend either) where I'm feeling FAT. I know there is a belly there, but I think my clothes and my larger chest are making it hard to tell. And when I put my winter coat on, I know I just look as though I've gained weight. It's actually kind of upsetting me lately. I think alot has to do with the fact that I'm not feeling the baby move, but hopefully I get over it soon.
Have my follow up U/S on Friday. DH can't make it with me, so my mom is going to come. I think she will enjoy it, as she never got the opportunity to go when my sister was PG. DH wants to make sure that I get another confirmation on the sex, he's starting to doubt what we saw and wants to make sure before really thinking of this baby in terms of a Boy.
Hope everyone has a great day (hopefully I can keep my lunch down) and can't wait to hear the results from the U/S.
This is what people have implied with me :rolleyes: or made me feel like.
I'm sorry. I got the other way around. I didn't get morning sickness and I was confident that I wouldn't since no one in my family ever got it bad either. I would hear "Oh, you will. I thought I wouldn't get it," and tons of horror stories and others would say stuff like that it's just like PMS and it's all in your head and ask me if I ever had bad PMS. Others would remind me that morning sickness meant that I wasn't going to miscarry and that I may lose my baby.
I love how people will judge you no matter what is going on in your pregnancy. Just comes to show that everyone else is an expert on your body.
ds: My stroller is a Combi Ultra Savvy 2730. When I went and looked at them they had a list of what car seats were compatible. The Graco was one of the ones listed. The snack tray portion of the stroller is interchangeable to a bar. The bar is what the car seat hooks onto. There's also a thin strap to strap over top of the car seat once it's in place. Sometimes I wouldn't even use the strap, but if we were out around a lot of people I would use it just in case. I was worried someone would bump the stroller hard enough to knock it loose. I've really liked the stroller. We've used it since birth and are still using it at 28 months. It's our only stroller, so it's had a lot of use. My only complaints are the basket isn't big enough or easily accessable if the child is laying down, and I wish the wheels were a little bigger (I walk 2-3 miles a day in the spring, summer and fall with Mia in the stroller). I'm sure the ride is a little bumpy for her at times. The stroller is really light (I think around 7 pounds) and folds up pretty small. Now with number 2 on the way, I'm going to check out their double strollers as well.
I've been so excited to come post my congrats to all the moms who have had ultrasounds lately, but now I'm a little preoccupied...
(copied from my journal) I just got a call from my OB. She just went over my u/s results today. Everything looks great with the baby--except they found a tiny cyst on her brain. The cyst itself isn't a problem (it'll probably go away on its own, and even if it doesn't it's not a problem), but such cysts have been linked to some sort of chromosome abnormalities. There's a teeny tiny chance (less than 1%) that we could be facing that, and the Dr. wants us to have another u/s with a high risk doctor. The abnormalities they're talking about would apparently be very obvious visually, so basically if the second Dr. doesn't see anything to be concerned about, all is probably okay. It sounds like they'll offer us an amnio, which I don't want to do.
I'm not sure how I'm feeling right now. I know that there's very little chance that anything is actually wrong... I guess this is all just a shock to me. Our u/s was a week and a half ago, and in that time I'd been feeling fantastic assuming that no news was good news. My heart sank when I heard the Dr.'s tone on the phone. She was great though; explained everything in the least scary way possible, I'm sure, and answered my questions.
Now I have to wait for a nurse to call me back to schedule the next u/s. I had to tell DH over the phone because I needed to know his work schedule in case I can't schedule the u/s for a day when he's already working from home. I'll be happy when he's home with me tonight.
I'm sorry for the rambling post. I know now how scary it is to hear that something *might* be wrong with your baby, even if there's only a tiny chance of that.
I'm here! :)
I just went to the gym ***gasp***! I haven't been in like 7 months or something horrible like that. I only walked for 20 min. on the treadmill and felt SCARY faint when I got off and started to walk to the stairs (I was upstairs). I guess I just have to get used to it, with the ways our bodies are all different and crazy now. I took the poor dog for a short walk after I got back. That's enough exercise for me for one day!
I have a name question. I'd like to use the middle name Hayden, but for the life of me I can't come up with a first name to go w/ it. My last name sounds like Blah-blah-ski, if that makes any sense. Any ideas???? I may have to drop Hayden if I can't come up with anything. I don't want to use it as a first name because another family member may be using it and we already have a Kaden in the family, but the name means something to me and I want to use it.
drive-by post since I'm one of the big u/s ladies ....
it's a healthy baby!! We're in the surprise category, but it was such a cool experience. We got 62 images on CD (I had brought one with us) and the whole thing on VHS (also brought a blank tape). I don't know if we'll ever figure out what is what on our own, but it's nice to have. Everything looked great, which is a huge relief. I'll post some shots when I've uploaded.
Where is everyone else?? I'm dying to know if pink will give blue a run for it's money!
The u/s tech may give an indication if there's an issue, but the results will also go to your doctor and a radiologist. The radiologist reads the u/s and gives a final report to your doctor which can take about a week.
Congrats on the healthy surprise, bottle, you have alot of willpower not finding out.
Lady-pregnancy is filled with all sorts of scary things that we never even think about. The less than 1% sounds reassurring though, hope everything goes well.
Pink- How about Andrew Hayden or Ross Hayden? I am having such a hard time with boys names too, I don't love anything. We have a very Italian last name but I gravitate toward the Irish/English names. What does everyone think of Travis Riley or Braeden Riley? I actually love Riley for a first name but the dogs name is Kiley so that would get confusing:) :)
Lady ~ Just wanted to come in and say I'm sorry you are going through this. It's tough when you expect that everything is alright and then they tell you it's not...that's what happened with us. Second U/S is booked for Friday, but Dh can't make it sor I'm on my own.
I know you will hear a ton of these stories, but my BF found that her baby had a cyst on the brain at 20 weeks. She went for a follow-up U/S at 32 weeks and the cyst had completely disappeared. She was blessed with a VERY HEALTHY little boy who just turned one last week. So, while it's easier said than done not to worry, try to do your best not to worry.
And where are all the U/S ladies with our updates...don't they realize we have very little patience these dayst?
Bottle ~ CONGRATS on your surprise baby. Glad to hear everything went well at the U/S...and wow, you got so many pictures, I'm jealous.
Braeden Riley-I like that.
Andrew "Drew" is my BF's son's first name so that's out, never thought about Ross. I thought about Thomas but I don't like the nickname Tommy and I'm afraid he's be called that.
Some names we came up with but I'm not sure how they go with Hayden are:
Jackson "Jack"
Matthew (not sure how I feel about it)
Cole
Cooper
Carter
Everett (But can you imagine an infant named this?)
Owen
I guess I like creative and traditional names, but err more on the traditional side. Some of the ones on the above list may be too "trendy" for us to actually use, like Cooper and Jackson but I like them none the less. I really like Carter, DH doesn't like anything, yet won't suggest anything. I have a huge family so it seems like all the good names are taken already :( .
Girl's names are so much easier.
lady- I definitely understand what you are going through as well. although my scare happened closer to 8 weeks, we also had the referral to a high risk doctor. turned out that everything was okay and the ultrasound we got at the high risk place was VERY cool. you could see so much more and the detail was amazing. so hopefully you will have a similar experience. and for what it's worth- I had a good friend with a similar experience as Brownie's BF. I'll be sending you positive vibes though!
Bottleored- congratulations and I am very impressed on your strength to not find out.
only 7 more days until I get to know. and for what it's worth, I have ZERO willpower.
pink- good humor on the treadmill. I went to the gym the other day and could only make it 20 minutes on the treadmill. barely made it over a mile. my 65 year old father does 2 miles in 20 minutes. I am SO out of shape.
Ladyjg – I hope that all turns out well. I never thought the doctors would go back and look at the u/s. Were you expecting a follow up call from your doctor?
Speaking of HOSPITAL TOURS…Has anyone gone on a tour yet? DH and I went on a hospital tour before we got pregnant. I went again by myself sometime last year. We plan to go once more in March. There is no question in my mind where I want to deliver, I just like touring the birthing center.
Jan&erinn – thanks. I will need to take a closer look the next time I’m stroller window shopping.
Bottleored – congrats on a great u/s
shouldaeloped- we looked at that stroller at USA Baby- I really liked it. It actually folded up fairly compactly for a big stroller. I've seen mostly good reviews on it, although I have heard if an older child leans over the side too much they can tip it over, but others have never had a problem. The only downside is it doesn't hold an infant seat, so we may go with a frame for the infant carier, and get the Liberty for our stroller.
Finally got my u/s scheduled:Feb.7th I'm probably one of the last ones, but it is going to be a surprise anyway. I got the results of the CF and AFP tests- all were fine, below average risk. I'm up a toltal of 7lbs, which seems like alot, but my OB said it was fine. I hope everyone that has had questions on their u/s find everything to be OK!
Question: When (if you are) are you taking your child birth classes? I don't want to go too early and be the pregnant one without a belly, but I don't want to put it off until too late either.
ladyjg
01-24-2006, 02:09 PM
ds -- No, I wasn't expecting a call. She said she wouldn't get the results of the u/s that day, and the way I interpreted what she said was that she'd call if there was a problem. The u/s tech took all of the images and then had us wait in the waiting room while she talked to the radiologist, who determined whether or not they needed more pictures/info. They didn't, so we went to our regular OB appt. The radiologist gives an oral report of the u/s findings to the Dr., who then talks to the patient if there's a problem. I assumed since my Dr. could've gotten the results as early as later in the afternoon the day we were there that I would've heard something shortly after that.
ds2003
01-24-2006, 02:28 PM
Ladyjg – I wasn’t sure if it was common practice to call later with more detailed info in there was a concern. My appt with my doctor was 5 minutes after my u/s. He said everything looked fine. Now I’m wondering if I should expect a call. I can’t imagine that he got a good look at the pics before my appt. Maybe he takes the u/s techs opinion. Their techs are in house so they know each others work.
Child Birth classes – info that I’ve read suggest that you are done by the 37 week when you are considered full term. I’m taking a 12 week course and start on March 5. I’ll be 24w4d. I won’t have a lot of belly but neither will anyone else. I want to take some other courses like child CPR, infant care and breastfeeding and will probably wait until 34ish weeks if class availability works out that way.
DS When do you think they will come out with the 2006 ratings?
Jay&Erinn I also have a Combi stroller, we got it after DS was done with the infant carrier though. But it is one that fits it just like yours. I have been looking at their double strollers and was excited when I found the Twin Savvy EX. It holds their carseat, and it seems that it isn't made to fit any other. I have been asking around and people say the graco just doesn't fit quite right. I just don't think it is made for it. Which bums me out, so I am not sure what I am going to do. The combi carseat didn't rate too well on Consumers, but maybe the 2006 model will?
Lady: Just need to chime in and share a couple of stories with you. I have two friends who received the news that their baby's had cysts on their brain. The first friend went through a series of high-level U/S and the cysts (yes, multiple) eventually disappeared and she now has a very active, beautiful 2 year old. My second friend, who is currently pregnant with her second child, just had her U/S two weeks ago. They found a cyst on the baby's brain, but her doctor said he didn't want to bother with the high level U/S because he was positive it would simply disappear. I hope these little antecdotes calm your fears a bit.
Bottle: Congratulations on your healthy baby! Wonderful news!
Hospital tours: I just checked out my hospital's Web site and they give tours of the maternity wing nearly every Sunday and Wednesday. Maybe I'll check it out this weekend if we have some time. By doc did mention at my appointment last week that I should look into signing up for my prenatal classes soon. Thanks for the reminder.
Double strollers ~ Any RO's planning to buy a double stroller? If so, what kind (tandem or SBS) are you looking at?
I'm interested in the Graco Duoglider. It's heavier than many, but a big plus for me is that you can use the infant seat in it and it has stadium seating so the baby will eventually be able to see what's going on. This is my favorite one so far as I love the print.
Excitedbride – I wish I knew the answer. This morning I was rushing and quickly browsed the CR page to see if I could send an email to someone to find out when the next carseat and stroller ratings will come out. I didn’t find anything and have not been back to the website. I noticed too that the Combi carseat didn’t do as well as other in the CR ratings for last year. I would really like to get the matching Combi carseat and stroller so I hope the new ratings come out soon.
