Sunshine - Whooohooo!!! Congrats on having the 1st GIRL! That's great news! Is this your first girl? Do you have any other kids?

Sunshine ~ That is WONDERFUL news, CONGRATULATIONS! I've been wondering how it went and am just so happy to hear all is well. And congrats on having the first girl...I was hoping to take the honour tomorrow, but now the pressure is off so maybe we won't find out the sex (still wavering back and forth.)
I have my big U/S tomorrow and have an irrational fear that something is going to be wrong...I keep getting told to relax, but it's still a little hard. I think I've been feeling the baby move, but am still not sure what I'm supposed to be feeling or what the sharp pains vs. dull pains vs. cramps vs. etc, etc, etc...so I still am feeling uncertain. Which is making me nervous for the U/S.
I'm sure everything will be fine, but at least it's reassuring to know that everyone so far has been perfectly fine.
So, one more sleep till my U/S and then MIL and I are going out looking at baby furniture. MIL committed (although I won't hold her to it, but pretty sure they won't back out) to buying us a Glider. That has been the ONE thing that I have been worried about not getting, as I am desperate for my own Glider and soon. I want to be able to start reading to the baby...but at least if I know they are going to buy it for me, I can rest a little easier.
Oh the crap I've been consumed with worrying about lately!

Yay Sunshine!! Congrats on your lil girl!!
I was just coming in here to post that if there is no girls by the time I have my u/s I was going to have one just to see if I could break the streak. I think I get to schedule it tomorrow. Now I'm going to have to find some other excuse on why I need to give in and ask the sex. :rolleyes: :p
Mrs. Brownie- I'm sure everything is fine. I get nervous before every doc appointment because a lot can happen in 4 weeks. I know that I have heard the heart beat but there is always something else to worry about. I just can't wait 'til my appt tomorrow just to get reassured again that the baby is fine. Good luck w/ your u/s tomorrow... Sending you lots of healthy baby vibes and cooperative baby (if that's the case since you're still on the fence).
Diapers- I think I may have answered this before but we are doing disposable diapers. We live in an apartment complex with a community laundry room. I get the heebie jebies from the idea of someone else putting their cloth diapers in there and I don't want to be responsible for grossing someone else out. Plus I am horrible about doing laundry. I think I did all our clothes for the first time since X-mas this weekend.

Congrats on our first girl Sunshine! And for everything else appearing to be normal. Whew!
LilMiss/Mrs. Brownie-I've cracked, I've decided to find out the sex. It's such a hard decision. I was dead set against it in the beginning but now I'm excited. I've got a lot of sleeps til my US, it's Feb. 9th.

It was sooo amazing & such an awesome feeling to find out ... I did not find out with my ds so I really wanted to find out with this one. The doctor kept asking me why I wanted to find out & teasing me about finding out. There are only a few surprises in life.
shamocha17 I have a 10 yr old son named Andrew
Yay Sunshine-one of each, you have a million dollar family now! Little jealous but so happy for you! So glad she looks healthy too, congrats on breaking the streak!
Mrs.Brownie-good luck tomorrow and please find out the sex, I am SO nosy!!

congratulations Sunshine! how exciting to know you have a baby girl on the way!!!
I just got a call from my doctor's office. we got the results from the AFP and everything looks normal!!! I haven't been allowing myself to worry about, haven't even thought about it really but when she told me, I just burst into tears. I think I scared the nurse! But when I called DH to tell him, I was still sobbing a little and I definitely scared him! I am just so relieved!!!
only 22 days until we find out!!! lots of sleeps too!!!

Sunshine: So glad to hear things went well, and congrats on your girl!
MrsBrownie: I hear you on the nervousness about the ultrasound, but I'm guessing it's totally normal to feel that way. I mean, it's a pretty big deal to see your baby 5 months before he's due to make his presence known! And I've only been feeling the baby for a week, and it's still not every day, and I was pretty scrawny pre-pg, so I really don't think it's a problem that you haven't felt him/her. Everything I've read says most people feel the baby between 18 and 22 weeks, and you're not quite to the middle of that timeframe.
It is very tempting to find out the sex, but I'm stickin' to my guns tomorrow!:D Unless of course the tech says something like, "there're 2 babies in there!" in which case I'd probably pass out and then wake up and demand to know the gender! But I don't think that's gonna happen...

I am impatiently waiting for my US on the 24th. We have a boy and a girl already so I will be happy with either (although I have a slight secret bias;) ).

lawyerwifemom - We are US twins. :D 2 more weeks!!! Eeeek!!
Graffy - good for you! It's hard but it's soo worth the wait. We waited to find out with our DS, and it was such a great surprise. I would probably do the same for #2, but DH isn't having it. ;) It was pure torture for him (us) the 1st time around. So we're going to find out. :D

Congrats on our first Junegirl! :)
I can't remember who mentioned that they don't want to clean out cloth diapers and would rather roll up the poopy diaper and throw it out...
What a lot of parents don't know (and disposable diaper companies aren't very forthcoming in advising consumers on this b/c if more people know, they fear that more people would use cloth)... is that even with disposable diapers you are supposed to clean the poop out of the disposables before throwing them out.
Why?
Because diapers eventually end up in landfills, and landfills aren't rated to handle raw sewage, which your baby's poop actually is (human waste and all).
Now how many disposable diaper using parents actually clean the poop out of their children's diapers? Hardly any, I suspect. I do, sometimes -- but only if it comes out in a hard "ball" and doesn't stick to the diaper. Anything mushier, I just throw out even though I know I'm not supposed to.
Anyway, just thought I'd add that little bit of info to the diaper discussion. :)

01-10-2006, 02:06 PM
connorsmommy- I so didn't know that. Yikes, I have been very naughty. I fully admit I use disposables because of the convenience. I would have considered cloth if there were a diaper service that would pick them up and wash them (there used to be in our area but no longer) and I just can't see having the time or energy- never mind organization skills- to keep up with CDing.
sunshine- Congratulations on your GIRL! Finally!! The spell has been broken! I am fully expecting a run of little hamburgers now (our US tech referred to looking for a 'hot dog' or a 'hamburger' last time and that imagery has stuck with me :D )

Congratulations on your girl, sunshine! I was starting to think that everyone in this group was destined to have boys! I'm also so happy to hear that everything looks good with your baby's health. :D
And congratulations to shouldaeloped as well. I'm sure getting the AFP results back lifted a huge weight off your shoulders.
Mrsbrownie: I have my U/S on Thursday and I've been nervous since the day it was scheduled. I get nervous before every appointment, but the nerves are definitely more on edge this week. I'm wishing you luck and sending good thoughts your way. Enjoy the U/S. I'm sure it will be an amazing experience.
Diapers: My DH is interested in checking out cloth diaper services in our area. He was a teenager when his brothers were little and his Mom used a diaper service. Therefore its not a foreign concept to him. Plus, he works for an environmental engineering firm and is attune to the impact of disposables. However, since our child will be in daycare 2-3 days a week, I'm concerned that the provider we find will not want to use cloth. I suppose we could have her use disposables and we'd use cloth at home. I still have to look into this.

MOD: Please change/delete my u/s for Jan 26th ... my next u/s will be Feb 2nd .... Thanks
shouldaeloped: I know getting back a normal AFP test was a great feeling & huge relief.
I can't remember who asked earlier about how long it took to get back AFP results? I took my test last Tues 1/3 & got my results back yesterday 1/9 so 6 days for me but the doctor told me it could take 7-10 days. Hopefully you will hear something soon!
Diapers: I will definately be using disposable diapers.

Congrats on your baby girl Sunshine :p
Question for those who have felt the baby move: I am just over 16 wks and haven't felt the baby move as of yet. However, I have read that it is easy to miss, especially for 1st time moms.
For those who have felt it, were you laying very still and paying close attention? Or, were you doing something else, but the movement was so obvious that you knew it was the baby?
What are your experiences? I am so anxious to feel the baby... I can hardly wait!
TIA!

Congrats to the first girl!!!
Feeling the baby
I have been feeling the baby for a couple of weeks now. At first I only felt it when I was lying in bed at night (on my back). Now I feel it very often, usually when I'm either sitting or lying down. I don't feel it when I'm active. And it comes and goes. It seems I hadn't felt anything in a couple of days but I feel it now.
I know it's the baby because of the location where I feel it. Its low and closer to the surface in front (as opposed to gas which would be deeper if that makes sense). You should feel it soon enough. I read also that thinner moms feel it earlier.
Diapers
We will be using disposable diapers.

Congrats on your GIRL, Sunshine!! So who's next? This is so exciting.
diapers Diposies for us. I've done some reading on it and from what I understand it is a toss up environmentally between the two when you consider the extra water and energy needed to wash the diapers. I'm pretty sure that our daycare wouldn't do cloth anyway.
Steviem, It is so normal to not have felt the baby at 16 weeks, especially with your first pregnancy. With my DD, I didn't feel her until well after 20 weeks - at least I didn't know for sure. This time, I know more what I should expect and I think I started feeling the baby around 14 weeks.

Sunshine congrats on your girl!! I'm so glad everything looked good. :)
Niko's Mommy congrats on your boy! I know what you mean about FIL wanting a granddaughter. It's the opposite in my family. Everyone has girls and no boys. My grandparents are really hoping this is a boy (obviously they'll be happy as long as s/he is healthy). They keep talking about how they won't be around forever and would love to have a boy to bond with. *sigh* Thanks for the pressure. :rolleyes:
I'm going to try to get my latest belly shot uploaded so I can post. I think I'm finally starting to show a bit and not look so blobby. lol.

I was around 16-17 wks when I felt ds move it felt like little flutters or popcorn popping inside me then eventually got harder.
This time around - I am feeling it more & it was sooner than baby #1, I was standing up at work the 1st time I felt it & it was some flutters, the other night I was sitting on the floor indian style and I bent over/forwards to pick up something and it was like BOOM a big kick ... me & my friend joked that the baby was saying hello you are smooshing me down here get up ... lol another time I felt it was the other night while laying in bed on my back it felt like it moved over to the side.
Mystikal great pics - there is a difference in your belly pics.
I need to take a new belly pic soon ... It seems like I am showing more & more everyday

I had a weird experience the other day... I don't know if it was a true movement or more of an acknowledgement that he/she is in there.
*something * happened and my first thought was that the baby just did a sumersault....
not sure if that is what happened but that is what my reaction was!

Shouldaeloped Great news about your AFP!
Jay I hope you are feeling better and are around here more often. You should post a belly shot for us!;)
Mystikal I see your baby belly!
Diapers We are using disposables on our DS, we will continue to use disposables with the new baby.
Feeling the baby move Usually I feel the baby moving when I am sitting down. Feels like little pops here and there. I can feel them very low in my tummy.

Mystikal - the belly is definitely getting bigger.
I'm due for an updated belly pic myself. I'll post one next week.
My u/s is 1 week from today.
Mystikal: CUTE BELLY!!
Baby Movement: This is the first time around for me and I felt the baby move last week at 17 weeks... at first I was not sure what it was (like everyone else says..) Last Sunday I had just woken up and I was curled up on the couch drinking hot tea.. and I felt something.. thought it was gas.. but was not sure.. then last Monday I came into work and had some hot tea and I felt it again... and it continues every morning the same way and now thru the day I feel it as well... but the joke for us is that "the tea is TOO HOT"...
I am dragging today.. and it is only 9:25 ugh.. what a long day.

good morning everyone!
Heading to my first OB appt. in an hour (yes, first one at 17 weeks!)....
I'm a little nervous -- I've never been to an actual OB before (mine is actually a group of 3), as all my prenatal/delivery was all done by my former family doctor. My old Dr no longer delivers babies and she moved to a location on the other side of the city, so I changed Dr's to a new one who only does early prenatal and no deliveries.
Anyway, I know it's silly to be nervous about the first OB visit, but I am b/c this OB group might turn me away at the door -- They're a regular, low-risk practice, and although I'm really not high risk, I kind of am simply for the fact that my history has shown that I've delivered a 35 weeker. That alone could put me in the category of "high risk" and they may decide to refer me to a high risk practice.
I don't want to go to a high risk practice - I feel that that might expose me to a greater chance of having the delivering OB trying to force more "traditional" medical intervention on me than a low risk OB might. Does that make sense? I really want a low-intervention birth as close to "natural" child birth as you can get in a hospital with an OB rather than a midwife... (though I know complications can arise and I could end up NEEDING those interventions) KWIM?
anyway, gotta run...

Connorsmommy – are you having a u/s or just a regular appt? I hope all goes well and you can stay at the low risk practice.
Ryan – I ran (okay walked) and got some hot tea as soon as I read your post. Darn, it did not work for me. No movement yet. I really want to fell movement before my u/s next week.

Thanks for the information on diapers Connorsmommy. Now I'm thinking I will put the diaper genie right next to the toilet with a box of latex gloves and extra wipes. Good luck at
Mystikal- Great belly pics! You are definitely starting to pop.
I have a candlelight party to go to tonight and I am a little nervous. A bunch of my old friends will be there from high school and it is the first time they have seen me since I got pregnant. This morning I was going through my closet like do I want girly and maternal? Do I want to show off my bumb or conceal? If I show my bump will I just look fat and frumpy? I am so nervous to see everybody!! I finally decided to go with a basic work outfit that way I look like a professional together mom. Does anyone else freak out like that when seeing people for the first time in forever?

lil_mrs: I saw my best friend from NC last night for the 1st time since July. I wore some beige/khaki colored pants & a basic black shirt that did show my bump. I would just suggest something that is comfy. I haven't really fretted over seeing other people but I do want to look as cute as I can ;) while prego.
I was looking at the other prego girls in the waiting room yest. & I am like they look sooo cute with their prego bellys that a poking out - hopefully soon my will look more prego than just fat. :(

Alas, I didn't have an ultrasound today after all. They only do them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so there was a miscommunication there somewhere. I guess I was supposed to schedule both the ultrasound and a regular appointment last time, but no one told me that. I think the dr.'s office is used to people who know what they're doing, but that wouldn't be a good description of me most of the time.:rolleyes:
So my new ultrasound appointment is tomorrow, January 12th, at 1:15 p.m. Arggh. Oh well, at least I don't have to wait another week or 2. And the baby's heartbeat sounded great- 155 bpm.
So that's what's up with me. Hope Mrs. Brownie had better luck.:o

lil_mrs - I don't know tonz about CDing with my short-term experience, but I hang around a lot of mamas on LJ who CD, so some little bits of info have stayed with me.
Ds - this was just an OB appointment. U/S are done at radiology clinics -- there happens to be one in the same building as my OB, but they're a totally separate entity.
********************************
Well, my appt. went well... I met one of the OBs today and she's super nice - I really like her.
Here are the highlights:
- Baby's heart beat was 150
- I can stay with this practice - they won't send me to a high risk group. She just mentioned that unexplained pre-term labour with Connor could have been due to bacterial vaginosis (?) and that they'll start swabbing me to check for BV at future appointments
- My weight is 4 lbs lower than it was 7 weeks ago on my regular dr's scale, which I always felt read higher than it should. So instead of an 8 lb gain at 10 weeks, I actually only have a 4 lb total gain at 17 weeks. :) I can handle that. :)
- the OB explained their on-call system. There are only three of them in their practice (all females), and between Sunday night and Friday evening, they always have at least ONE of them at the hospital that I'll deliver at. So, if I have Baby2 between a Monday-Friday, I'll get one of them. If I deliver on a weekend, there is a small chance that one of my three OBs will be on call as part of the larger call group that they belong to, but more than likely, it'll be a Dr. from the OB practice that I originally tried to get into (but didn't b/c they were "full")! Even though I won't get to know the 8 female OBs in that other group, I think I'll be fine with having one of them deliver Baby2, as that other OB group came highly recommended to me by friends...
U/S in 8 days!! :)
I have my next appt. on Feb. 8! :)

I got my AFP results this morning and did not hear the results I wanted to hear. I knew something was wrong when I heard the Dr.'s voice on the other end of the phone, because I wasn't supposed to get the results until I went for my next u/s Feb. 9th if all was well.
For the Downs Syndrome part I tested 1/4,000 which was better than they even look for, they were looking for 1/800 for my age. I tested well on the other part too, the Trisomy??? part. He said these were very good signs that the other part could be false.
But for the open Spina Bifada part the Dr. was looking for 1/1,000 for my age and he got 1/122. He said it was a "transient" risk whatever that means and that causing myself a bunch of grief over this was like worrying I would have a "transient" heart attack, his little analogy went way over my head.
I had to re-take the AFP this morning and I will get the results on Friday (hopefully). I have to have an u/s 1/16/06 at 1:45 to see if we are able to see any lesions on the baby's spine or any other indicators that the baby could have this, regardless of the blood test results. He said whether or not we were able to see anything on the u/s this time would depend on the baby's size and the lesion size IF it has one. I will still have to have more frequent ultrasounds than I would normally to monitor the situation, regardless of how the blood test results and first u/s goes. So even once the first tests are over and if they come back ok, I always till have to worry in the back of my mind that something is going to suddenly show up.
I am freaking out.

Pink, I'm so sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you that everything will turn out perfectly normal on Monday. Is that test dependent on the timing as well as the chromosomal tests? I know that there are a lot of false positives in those because of inaccurate dating of the pregnancy. I think that your doc has a good point though, that 1/122 is still less than 1% chance, so your baby has greate than a 99% chance of being perfect. Still understandable that you're freaking out though, I would be too!

Connorsmommy – good to see you like your ob’s office. Since they rotate with another office it would be nice if they had something once a month or every other month where you could go meet all the on-call doctors. Your u/s is the day after mine. My docs also rotate but it is just within the office among the 5 obs and 3 nurse midwives. I will meet them all over the course of my prentatal care and even though I won’t get to know each one that well, it will be nice to see a familiar face at the hospital. The obs are only on call like 1 weekend a month so I will most like deliver with a nurse midwife. I’m perfectly fine with that and would prefer a midwife. I friend of mine delivered with one of the midwives there an she said that she thinks it was all the massaging the midwife did that caused her not to tear.
Pink – I hope everything goes well with the u/s and retest. I pray that you and your family have the strength to deal with whatever the outcome.

Pink- what a scare! I'm sorry you didn't get the results you wanted to hear. but the greater than 99% chance of everything being okay is a great way to look at it. I'll be thinking about you and keeping my fingers crossed that you get nothing but good news in the future visits.
Is there EVER a time when we don't have to worry about something? my current fear is that I am leaking amniotic fluid. does anyone else feel like they just peed their pants all the time? it's driving me crazy!! (sorry if that's TMI!)
diapering- disposable. I brought up cloth diapering to DH yesterday and he laughed. said only if I changed every single diaper myself. I am all for the environment and the lack of diaper rash, but I am not sure I was that responsibility all to myself.

Pink- I am sorry that you didn't get the results that you were hoping for. Just remember that this is just a screening that says that there is a chance there may be a chance... It isn't diagnostic. When my doc talked to me about all the screenings that were offered he stressed that they were all remature screenings and that even if they come back with a chance of something it is just a chance and there are further tests they can do before you get all worked up.

pink - Sorry about your test results. I agree with the others though...great than 99% chance that everything is ok sounds very promising. Definitely keeping you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers.
AFP Test - I took my test on 12/29, tried to call the hospital today to get my results and they transferred me to the AFP department where I got a voicemail. I'm hoping they will call me today with the results. Otherwise I have my next appt tomorrow. I'm really nervous that they just didn't tell me over the phone right then an there. :confused:
Baby Movement - I *THINK* I may have felt the baby move for the first time last night. I was cooking dinner, then I turned to go to the sink and all of a sudden I felt a twitch in my lower abdomen. There was definitely something going on down there.
QOTD: Has anyone used or planning to use a baby sling? We used the Bjourn with my DS (which is great btw), but I wanna try something different. So far I've looked at hotslings (www.hotslings.com) and the Peanut Shell (http://www.goo-ga.com/). Any other recs?

PINK: ((( Hugs to you my sweet June mommy online friend)))
I know what you are going through. I had to go through all of it on Monday of this week. Please try not to worry,cry stress out until you get the other results or the u/s shows something. I cried all night Monday night & had very bad dreams/nightmares. my scores were 1/350 for downs & 1/850 for my age which he said that 2nd # should have been alot higher like 2000 for the downs - we had 2 markers show up for downs on our u/s but I am just hoping & praying that those will not show up at my next u/s Feb 2nd. My doctor warned me about false positives before I even took the test. My sister in law (which is a nurse) & several co workers that have been through the stress of an AFP with false positives told me to try not to stress (which I know is hard to do) my coworkers had healthy babies that are perfectly fine - you can do a search on here on AFP & there are quite a few people that have been through the same issues we've been through - their babies also came out perfect. If you need to talk you can always PM me ....

Like others said, keep thinking of the 99% chance that everything will be fine. At the last exam before my test results, the doc kept saying... don't forget about the false positives, I don't want you worrying even if the results don't come out negative.

I'm so glad I posted here. I totally didn't think of it in terms of being such a high percentage that nothing was wrong. I just saw the results go from needing to be 1/1,000 to mine being 1/122 and freaked, cried, got mad, etc. I feel so much better now that you all pointed that out to me in those terms.
sunshine-I'm so weird, when this was happening to you I was totally sure nothing was wrong, you would be okay, etc. and when it happens to me I automatically think the worst. I can be positive for other people, but never for myself :rolleyes: . I will PM you if I get too freaked out this week/weekend, but right now I think I'm okay :) . I was sure feeling for you and could sense your worry. I can honestly say I know how you felt now. It sucks that you will still always have the worry of it in the back of your mind, that's how I feel that I will be after all of this is over.
Thanks everyone for thinking of me! I totally hope I overreacted and everything is A-ok! I think the baby just misses it's mama and wants to see me on Monday. I hope they tell me everything is okay, and tell me the sex.

I think the baby just misses it's mama and wants to see me on Monday. It's funny you said that ... last week at my appt 1/3 my dr wanted me to wait 4 wks to get an u/s I was like come on cant I get one in 2 wks, why do I have to wait 4? he started laughing & said we need to wait - ha ha ... I did not have to wait but a week - even though it was an unexpected/ hurry up & get in here for an u/s situation - I felt alot better after seeing my baby wiggle, heart beating & measuring on time - gave me a sense of relief

pink - I'm sorry to hear your test results, but like so many others have said, you're still 99% likely to have a baby who is just fine. Hang in there, ok?
slings - we have a Kangaroo Korner adjustable fleece pouch and another regular cloth pouch (non-adjustable) that I just got a few months ago. Connor was never a big fan of the pouch (except for about a month or two around 3-5 mos.), so I'm just going to wait and see how this next baby is, and then get either a bjorn or a ring sling if the baby doesn't tolerate being in the pouch.

Wow, I've missed so much around here! 6 baby boys and 1 girl, is that right? How cool! We have our u/s on Friday, and it can't come quickly enough! I keep going back and forth in my thoughts as to whether we're having a boy or girl. Hopefully we'll know in two days. :D
Pink -- I hope the rest of the week and weekend go by at least fairly quickly for you. As everyone else has said, I'm sure everything is fine with your baby, but I can imagine how scary it is. This is definitely the place to come if you need reassurance!
I can't believe DH and I are halfway to meeting our baby! There is SO much to do in the next 20 or so weeks. I'm getting more and more excited all the time--and so is DH. Over the weekend we ordered the Peg Perego Pliko P3, so we have our first semi-major baby purchase taken care of. I think DH is even more anxious for it to arrive than I am because he wants to play with it. :)
I'm finally convinced that I've been feeling the baby move for the past few weeks. Two nights ago DH actually felt some kicks too, and that was amazing. I love all these things that make it feel more real for him.
I have got to be better about keeping up with this thread! We were in St. Louis for a week and a half around Christmas/New Year's, and since we got home I've been so exhausted. I've been feeling great otherwise, but I can't seem to get enough sleep. I'll keep trying to check in here more though.

Well, had our big U/S today and everything looks great. The tech was pretty cold though and didn't provide us with alot of information, other than the heart is beating, there are two hands, two feet, a spine, a stomach, etc. She didn't even tell us what size the baby was or anything, so I am thinking a little more on the 3D U/S at 30 weeks...but we will see.
As for our little baby, I caved and asked the tech to check the sex. Well, there was a VERY definite Penis and Scrotum visible as soon as she started to search.
So, much to my amazement (remember...I was 99.9% sure we were having a girl) but we are having a BOY!
That makes 7 June Boys and only one girl.
I'm okay with it though...at little shocked, maybe a tiny (tiny) bit dissapointed that it's not a girl, but I'm hapy that I know now and that everything is alright.
Afterwards, DH, MIL and I went looking at baby furniture. It would seem that we are definitely going to be buying something, as DH has decided he doesn't like Natural Finish (which is the crib we were looking to buy off a co-worker) and he doesn't like pure white (which is what my sister has already bought for us.) So he wants either Dark Wood or Antique White (cream) which will have to purchased brand new.
We saw a set that I really loved, but Dh didn't like the handles on the drawers...so we are back to the drawing board. And not cheap stuff here, we are going with pretty top of the line stuff. Should be interesting!
So, that's my update...no time for S/O's, heading over to my parents to show them the picture of their newest Grandson.
So have a great evening and Gaffy sorry to hear about not getting your ultrasound. At least you will have it tomorrow to be able to share with us the results. Good luck!

So, I just got back from the OBGYN. I had my dr. cracking up. We were talking about my u/s coming up and if I want to know and he was just like "You know you can find out and not tell anyone... Get the best of both worlds." He just found his wife is expecting so he is just glowing. It seems like I can only meet men who are expecting! Our FedEx guy, one of the managers here, and now my dr! I can't find any women though...
Anyways back to the appointment. I asked the dr about the heart beat and last time it was at 160 and this time it is 150. I'm feeling more girl vibes! I talked to DH and asked if he would be able to keep the sex a secret. He was like "Ya, I can no problem, but there is no way in hell you'll be able to."
Well I hope everyone is having a great day...
Threadmistress- My big u/s is January 19th (can I start my countdown only 8 days!) and my 20 wk appointment is February 8th. Thanks!

MrsBrownie - Congrats on having a BOY! I know you were sort of hoping it was a girl, but I'm glad to see that the baby is healthy. Boys are a lot of FUN. :) I wouldn't mind having another boy [although a teeny weeny part of me wishes for a girl.] ;)

QOTD Re:slings-We're really keen to get a sling. I'm liking the looks of the adjustable pouches from Kangaroo Korner and I also like the look of the Hug-a-Bub (http://www.hug-a-bub.com.au) but not the price so I think I'll buy a long piece of material and follow some tying instructions I've found online for a very similar tie. If I really like it then I might try to buy one off of e-bay...we'll see. But the pouch seems to be the simplest most user friendly of all the slings I've seen so I'm keen to get one of those but from where I'm not sure....
ETA: Here's the link (http://groups.msn.com/MamaRoo/didymossling.msnw) to the tying instructions for a wrap similar to the hug-a-bub. I found is at: http://www.thebabywearer.com

Brownie-Congrats on your baby BOY!
It's funny how some of us are slowly starting to crack on the finding out the sex thing...
As much as I wanted a girl in the beginning, now I really don't care one way or the other. That was my attitude even before I found out the baby might be sick. Since I have nothing to compare it to, the thought of a boy became just as sweet as the thought of having a girl, I can't wait either way. Also, I like my boy name and I'm totally decided about it, I'm undecided about my girl name, maybe that has something to do with it, I'm lazy and it's easier!!! Ha!

Sunshine – Nice u/s shot. I’m so anxious for my u/s next Wednesday.
I think we may be finding out the sex. DH won’t budge on his decision to find out. I would not survive when him only knowing. I thought he had changed his mind, but I was wrong. Oh well. Now I will have to stay strong, because even though we may find out I still do not want anyone IRL to know. I want it to be a surprise for our parents and of course there is my other motive not to end up with a bunch of gender specific stuff at my shower. I’m sure that once I know, I’ll buy a few gender specific clothes and possibly a few diaper covers. It may be hard to keep the secret, although I kept our pregnancy from my parents for almost 2 months and I was never tempted to tell them.

I am feeling very unpregnant. aside from the little pooch I have now and the huge BB's, I have energy, no nausea. . . just feel pretty normal. even my headaches are gone! it's amazing that that can still make me nervous. I have noticed a bit of a weight gain recently and thing I might have to some maternity clothes shopping. I feel like I have been eating pretty carefully too. sigh. I'm so excited for our u/s sound tomorrow! I think that ladyjg is also tomorrow? This baby better not be shy! For those of you who are not finding out, I wanted to say that we didn't with my DD and it was really cool to be surprised. We just decided that we want to this time for a different experience and also for planning, since I have buckets and buckets of baby girl clothes.
Pink, I'm glad that you're feeling better.
Slings We didn't use one with DD. I tried but couldn't get the hang of it. I think we didn't have a good one. We used the Baby Bjorn and she loved it. Since then though I've been reading about how it can be bad for them to spend a lot of time in there so maybe we'll get a different sling and try that.
Pink-sorry I'm jumping in late here but I just wanted to give you some reassurrance. I am a primary care Pediatric Nurse and I have only had one baby with SB in my 7+ years of practice, so the numbers are very much in your favor. I am sure you will have a healthy, beautiful babe and wish you the best.

So exciting to see more ultrasound and learn all the baby's gender. Congrats Sunshine and mrsbrownie! Exactly two more weeks left until our big u/s!
How I feel...
These past few days for me have been very different. I feel like I am getting more pregnant by the day. My belly seems to be growing so fast. Comparing to last week, yoga this week seemed so different, like my body was not responding the same way. I am very cranky and uncomfortable. I cannot imagine keeping this up for another 20 weeks or so.
My belly button is starting to come out, it's barely below the surface now.
You are so lucky shouldaeloped! I want to feel great again. :(

Izzy- Wow that's cool that your button is about ready to pop! My belly button is huge, my dh loves to play with it and make jokes about what we could fit in there.
So, I gained 7 lbs this month... Which I know is a bit more than I should in one month but I hadn't gained any weight in my first trimester so I think of it as a 7 lb total gain which is good. Well I have a feeling that the dr. and the nurse didn't have the same thought process. They kept telling me that 7 lbs is nothing to worry about and that I was still in the normal range, but then they kept bringing it up and asking about my diet and exercise.
Then as we were talking about my exercise I made a joke about taking up kick boxing and he encouraged it. He said that as long as I am in a program where I can sit down and take a break, he's okay with it. I just thought it was little weird to encourage someone to start an aerobics class while in their 2nd trimester.

MrsBrownie -- Congrats on your boy! My SIL tells me that boys are the best because they're so sweet to their moms. :)
My belly button is on its way out too. It's huge, and I'm just not used to it!
As great as it feels to not have to deal with nausea anymore, I am SO tired all the time. My back hurts often, and I just can't do as much as I used to without needing a break. I knew I'd feel this way in the third trimester, but I didn't realize it would start so early. I guess it makes sense... our bodies work awfully hard to grow babies!
The stroller was delivered today! The UPS man was probably laughing at me trying to wrestle it inside (he was already back to his truck by the time I got to the door). Thank goodness we went with a "light" stroller. :) I can't wait to put it together!

Lil_mrs – 7lbs is a great total weight, but I can see why they would be concern that you gained 7 in one month. They don’t want it to be a regular thing. I love kickboxing. I wish I had kept up with it when I moved to CT. If you are in decent physical shape it probably doesn’t matter if you do something low impact. Kickboxing can be high impact. What type of kickboxing it? Man to man combat or like cardio kickboxing class? I love man to man but I wouldn’t do it now for fear of getting hurt. I don’t like cardio kickboxing. I think it is boring. I’d choose STEP over it any day. I’m starting to ramble.
Speaking of weight – has anyone set a weight goal for themselves. I personally want to be in the 25-30lb range. I started out at 175 and really do not want to tip 200. I don’t think I could bear to read the scale. According to my home scale, I’m up 11 pounds.
Laydyjg – which stroller did you buy?
Back pain – I’ve always gotten lower back pain from time to time. I best relief for me was when I did Pilates. Now I’m doing prenatal yoga (although not that regularly). I should help alleviate and hopefully prevent some back pain. So far my back has been fine.
Don’t forget your Kegels Hold them at a red light, during commercials at your desk, etc. Don’t forget to keep breathing.
Weight-I am in such denial about this. I started off over 20 pounds heavier this time around than I did with my son. I gained 55 pounds with him and never lost all of it. I again have the same horrible eating habits and am using pregnancy as an excuse to pig out. I need a wakeup call. It's so hard to exercise when you work full time, 2 classes starting in a few weeks, housework, chasing a toddler......Where's the motivation? I dread looking like a whale in the summertime but I can't get my preggo ass to exercise!

Gaffy ~ We need your updated U/S results too...don't forget about us.
Thanks for welcoming me into the [color=blue]BOYS club! I am happy to be here, although still trying to adjust my thinking to boy. I'm feeling horribly disappointed in myself that I caved and we found out and Guilty that I'm a little shocked that we're having a Boy when I was so sure it was a girl. I think I'm just more surprised than anything.
This is probably better for my journal, but any comments from others would be appreciated.
DH has been great actually, he told me yesterday and I finally believed him, that he didn't care whether we had a girl or a boy as long as it was a healthy baby. But he will have his boy and will carry on the family name, so I'm excited about that.
I have been feeling very uncomfortable the last three days...anyone else hit that stage yet? I'm feeling much bigger (and have definitely popped out more) and uncoordinated lately. I am having trouble bending over, baby is sitting right on my bladder (making the desperate feeling to pee just a little trickle) and BDing with DH last night was a challenge...can't wait for a full on belly to see how that is going to work.
I started out big (but lost about 20lbs just before finding out we were PG) but I am sitting exactly the same as when I started. So I have yet to gain any weight. Which is great for me (being overweight, I should gain ideally between 15-20pounds only) and going halfway without gaining is definitely right were I wanted to be and there is no exercise coming from this body right now. I should at least be walking, but it's been so cold here that it hasn't happened.
Last point...I haven't been doing Kegels (keep forgetting) but continue to lose bladder function. The other night I coughed while trying to turn and unfortunately wet my pants (just a little though!) I have to start with the Kegels, cause this can't continue to happen. Anyone else or am I the only one?
Okay, gotta run but I have to say I'm so glad to have other women going through the same things I am and to be able to vent to them. I don't think anyone else understands my feelings, insecurities, milestones, etc. like you guys do...even if they try (poor DH!)
So for that I want to say THANKS...I appreciate all the support, help and encouragement I get from you ladies.

Well, I'm back from my ultrasound. That was really cool. Everything looked good and measured well according to the tech, and we saw 2 arms and 2 legs and a head and a good spine and a heart, and all kinds of good things. And we stuck to our guns and didn't find out the sex. :D Here are the baby's first pictures:

The weird thing is that the tech said I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead, which changes my due date to May 19th! Unless this child is just huge, I don't really understand how I could be that far ahead. I charted my cycles, so I know exactly when everything happened, ya know? And I don't see my dr. 'til February, so I can't ask him. But anyhoo, here's my latest belly shot:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6df33b3127cce96ce53a6edc300000015108BZOXDlw5bM
Going by my LMP that would be 19 weeks, 6 days. But going by my u/s due date that would be 21 weeks, 6 days!
I don't really know how much I've gained, but my doc seems fine about it. By my scale I was around 117 pre-pg, and now I'm 132, so that's 15 pounds! :eek: But it's very much all in my belly.

Mrs. Brownie: Congrats on your little boy!
ds: Thanks for the kegels reminder. Could you keep doing that occasionally? ;)
I've been feeling pretty good, but my biggest struggle has been sleeping. I'm not a sidesleeper by nature, and I'm constantly waking up to flip over because my hip and shoulder on one side have gone numb. I have to figure out something better because I need a better night's sleep! :(

Gaffy - Glad to hear everything looked great for you, and those are such nice clear pictures. I have to take pictures of mine (we got 4 to take home) cause I don't have a scanner.
And good for you for not finding out the sex...I'm a little dissapointed in myself that I caved, but glad at the same time (now I know it's a boy and won't be expecting a girl.)
I'm jealous though that you are jumping ahead (May 19th...wow!) You will have to be sure to let us know if the doc adjusts your due date when you see him next. I never did find out if we are measuring on schedule or not, but have a M/W appointment on Tuesday, so will find out then.
Thanks for the update though!

Graffy ~ Glad to hear things went well for you and that you're still going to have a surprise!
Graffy-I was measuring ahead according to my 18 week US and the tech told me that there is a 7-10 day range of dates (pretty wide and unpredictable range) they can give by averaging the lengths of arms/legs and general size of baby so she told me to go by earlier ultrasounds and my LMP, so I wouldn't count too much on the May date, especially with your first baby. US pics are adorable of those skinny little arms, congrats!:)

:p Graffy- Great u/s and belly pics. I am also jealous that you get to move up a couple of weeks. I'm hoping for similar news. I'm still debating on whether or not we'll find out the sex. I didn't get home until DH was about ready for bed so we didn't get to talk about it.
Quick question- Who went to your u/s?
My mom is hinting that she wants to go but I really want it to be between DH and I. Also if we do find out the sex, I don't want to tell anyone (except you girls and the July thread). I don't want her to know that we know if we decide to find out so I don't know how in the world I would go about getting her out of the room long enough to find out and then hide my suprise when she came back. I love that she is so active but sometimes I wish she would butt out and let some things be between husband and wife.
Kegels- I think we all need to just randomly post "Kegels Reminder" since I know we are all checking in. This way we do them whenever we check in with the thread.:p

Who went to your u/s?
With DS only DH went with me. This time DH will go and DS will probably go as well (unless someone can babysit - he doesn't go to daycare). I like the privacy and excitment to be shared just among us for a while. I personally wouldn't want my mom, MIL or friend there.
I agree on Kegel Reminders! Great idea Lil Mrs!

Hi ladies,
Thanks for sharing your baby movement stories! Makes me so excited- I can't wait to feel the little one move!
Had my OB visit yesterday. It went well- very quick appt. Just peed in a cup and heard the baby's heartbeat. It was in the 140 range. I've gained a total of 9 lbs so far. The OB was happy with that, but, I do need to start exercising. Seems like I always find excuses not to. I want to take yoga.... I must get on that!!!
They scheduled my next appt for Feb. 8th and my big u/s appointment is set for Feb. 13th. I can hardly wait!!
I hear ya' on the whole kegel thing. I need to do this. I must wet my pants every night.... especially when I sneeze. It is horrifying :o I thought that was supposed to happen after you have the baby, not before. Who knew??
I am so happy this week is almost over!! One more day :)

Ruby: Thanks for the info on measuring ahead. I was really confused about that. At this point I think I'll just stick with my original EDD and wait to see what my doctor says about the matter in 4 weeks.
Lil Mrs: Random KEGEL REMINDERS sounds like an excellent idea to me as well.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I was nervous going into it (I keep thinking if I'm nervous about these little things, what am I going to be like during L/D?), but I have to admit, the whole ultrasound thing is pretty awesome.
Who went to your ultrasound? It was just me and DH. The room they did it in wasn't really that big. It would've felt pretty crowded with any more bodies in there.

Sorry to keep you all waiting! My U/S was scheduled for 2 p.m. but we sat and sat and sat in the waiting room for almost an hour! What a drag. But the wait was worth it. It was amazing to see our surprise baby wiggling all over the place. A resident physician did the first measurements of the placenta & cervix. While he was taking those measurements, we kept seeing the baby's feet and legs coming into the shot. She (or he) was kicking like crazy thanks to the orange juice I drank before the appointment. Then the tech came in and showed us the brain, nose, palate, heart chambers, kidneys, bum, gallbladder, tongue (!), and limbs. She had us look away when she checked the gender. (It sure was tempting to sneak a peak!) Finally the attending physician came in and walked us through everything. She was so reassuring and informative. As she looked at each baby part, she said, "Everything looks great." My DH scanned the four pictures we have in one jpg. I hope it isn't too big. The top left photo is the baby's profile, the top right photo is the baby looking at the camera and pointing, the bottom left is a close up of the baby's face/profile, and the bottom right is the baby with both arms and legs up in the air. :D

Well yesterday was my 27th birthday and it was the best birthday I've EVER had.
I worked all day, nervous as hell about the u/s. We went and got his mom, my mom came straight from work and it was amazing. The little baby was moving and shaking all over the place, but unfortunately was sitting indian style most of the time so we couldn't see anything. Then the tech said let me try something, she pushed down on the baby's butt and the legs popped open and it was CLEAR AS DAY that it was............................................... ...............
a BOY!!!!
Peyton Thomas S. showed us his perfectly shaped peepee and even his testies, there is no mistaking and we all cried with happiness. The tech even did a 3d photo of his face without us asking (hope they didnt charge me extra for that, LOL) and he was smiling and sucking his thumb. I'll have the photos scanned this weekend for everyone to see.
So I am the PROUD and HAPPY momma of a baby BOY!
Congrats to the other mommies who know the sex, its such a great feeling!

For this scary one on Monday it will be just me and DH, in case anything is wrong.

I've been so lazy, I don't use the computer as much anymore. I want to be around more so that I can get to know some of you other mommies. Congrats to those who found out the sex...seems to be a lot of boys around here :)
I had a dream a couple of nights ago that I went into labor and had a girl. We named her Isabella (not even a name I've been considering). And in the dream I was so sad because she was having a hard time breast feeding. That is not the first dream I've had of a baby girl. I've heard that most dreams are opposite and that I'll probably have a boy since the dreams have been girls.
I also went to this website, which said I'll have a boy. Was this chart correct for anyone else? I used it to see if my sister, mom and some friends and all came out to what they predicited.

I could not reach anyone for lab results at my Dr.'s office so I called the lab myself and they said the results were not in and my Dr.'s office would have them on Monday. Boo! I guess there is no need to worry over the weekend since I have no control over it. I guess I'll get all the info at once on Monday.
I'm hearing so many false positive stories, I feel pretty good about it. I just need the official confirmation to totally rest.

The chart was correct for me with both prior pregnancies although I had never looked at it until a couple weeks ago. However, this time, I am not exactly sure when I conceived--it was a the very end of Sept or beginning of October--so the chart could be right either way boy or girl!

Only 6 more days!! I can't believe that they could get me in so quick! I think we are going to find out. I just keep seeing such cute little outfits and things and I keep thinking "Gosh, I wish I could know if I could buy this or not!"
I must be really showing in this shirt today.. I have gotten a lot of people asking me baby questions.
So now I'm not sure on boy names. I won't bring it up to DH unless we find out that we are having a boy but I have been stuck on C names lately. I like Connor, Collin, and Cole these days. I wasn't even looking for baby names, they just keep popping into my head. I really like the name Collin. I think of a man's man you know, and he can shorten to Cole if likes. That way I have one name or the other. I just don't know if I like Collin Warren.... I think Cole Warren sounds better. Oh well, I have another week to find out if I even need to be concerned with it.

The pregnancy is so much more real after seeing my baby kicking around yesterday. I'm now in full on planning mode (when I'm not staring at my U/S pictures). I called one in-home daycare provider I was referred to by my friend's daycare provider. She said she only works with teacher. Whatever. She seemed like an old bitty anyway. I left a message with the second referral and, judging by her answering maching message, she is much more pleasant! I hope she gets back to me soon with some positive news.

Well, sunshine, you got your wish... we're having a GIRL!!! :D I still can't believe it. It feels so surreal right now. Seeing her (gosh, I love saying that) was amazing, and I loved seeing her move around, but it's still hard to believe sometimes that we were looking at OUR baby. She's inside me! So amazing. We got 4 pictures, and DH is planning on scanning them tonight. He's such a proud dad. :)
Everything looked good, but of course the u/s tech didn't tell us much. I had my OB appt. today also, and that was a very short one. My Dr. said she'd hear from the radiologist if anything is wrong, and then we'll find out. I wish we'd been able to hear her say today that everything looked great, but I really believe it did, so I'm not worried.

sunshine -- How crazy that we're the only girl moms so far? I bet there will be plenty more before too long. :) So far it's looking like we'll go with the name Samantha. DH won't commit yet, but that's the name he picked. I had my heart set on Madeline Grace, but he's not too fond of that. If we do go with Samantha, we don't have a middle name yet. I'm feeling soo HUGE today. I had my dr. appt yesterday and all was well. The doctor was surprised that I gained 8lbs. since my last visit though! :eek: I guess I made up for the 8lbs. I lost when I had the m/s, but still....I feel like fatty patty. My back has been starting to ache, well...more like my upper back near my shoulder blade. I had the same pain in the exact same spot when I was pg with my DS.
Does anyone else suffer from upper back pain? Not sure how common this is, since most of the pressure seems to be on the lower back.

excitedbride - We are planning to bring DS to our u/s. I specifically asked our hospital if we could bring him when making the appt. and they said it was fine. I guess it depends on your hospital. You may want to check with them first.
Baby Lust - I asked my OB yesterday and she said the same thing. It's probably bad posture since pg women tend to slouch. She didn't really have any good advice for me though. The pain seems to be happening everyday now starting in the afternoon. :( What do you do to alleviate the pain?
Baby Lust
01-13-2006, 05:41 PM
Shamocha, That's what I figured it was, for me, anyway. When I start to feel it coming, I sit up straight or if I am standing/walking, I sit down and stretch my back. It doesn't alleviate all the pain all the time, but it sure does help! I'm sure it will get worse before our 9 months are up, so try different things and see what helps you. I will also ask my OB at my appt on the 24th and see what she says.

Hi there fellow June Mamas! I'm back from our "babymoon" -- taken at 17 weeks per doctor's orders. Congrats on all the boy and the two girl announcements that I missed out on while I was away. You all were busy while I was gone!

We got our first unsolicited gender prediction (girl) and lots of other comments, so I figure I really look pregnant now and not just fat. (I'm sure the summer clothes help with that though.)
shamocha and babylust - Oh, my, yes the back pain has started. I find it's at its worst when I sit in a normal chair without a footrest of some sort. The footstool, stretching and yoga seem to help a little. As does a short massage from DH. ;)

This is going to be short. I just got home from the hospital. On Wed night I was having severe abdominal pains. I thought it was labor it hurt so much, and came on in a progression type of thing.
Brian rushed me to the maternity ER and they checked the baby and he was fine. My cervix was also good so they ruled that out. My WBC was over 19,000 - normal is 7k to 10k. They sent me for tests and low and behold it is my appendix :eek:
My OB came to see me and gave me 2 scenarios. If we operate, I get better but I may also go into pre-term labor and they may not be able to stop it. At 20 weeks there is no way he could survive. Or, we let it go, take tons of antibiotics and see if it settles down. Well we decided the second would be the best route.
I was on the highest dose of IV antibiotics I could take w/o it hurting him. I was in the antipartum section of the postpartum floor, I got to see little babies everyday :D As of this morning, my WBC is back down to 10.5k so they let me come home.
I'm now on another high dose of anitbiotics for a week. If the appendix doesn't act up, I'll have it removed after the baby is born. If it does act up, I'll be going in for immediate surgery.
It was very scary to say the least but I'm glad to be home. Now I just need this appendix to lay in limbo 18+/- more weeks. My OB said now that this is in the background, we may induce earlier than 38 weeks. We shall see.
So now I'm off to bed for some rest. My abdomen is still sore. I'll be lurking for a while and hopefully posting soon.
Please send us some good appendix vibes :D TIA :D

nikosmommy Oh my gosh, I can't imagine what you're going through. What a tough decision. I hope everything's okay and I'm sending you sticky appendix vibes....like someone else said, stay appendix, STAY!!
welcome shaqangel!
I was wondering if I could ask a favor of all of you....I have my heart set on some cute puppy/dog themed bedding for my nursery if we have a boy. I'm a crazy dog lady. The set I love is discontinued from PBK and costs a fortune on Ebay. I'm looking for something in primary colors-reds and blues, not pastels. If any of you see anything like I'm describing, could you let me know? TIA!

Congratulations Ladies on your boys/girls! It's so exciting to read this message board and share in everyone's joy. I can't wait until my super ultrasound on Jan. 24th.
NikosMommy - I'm glad that your numbers are down. I hope that you don't need surgery until after your son is born. Sending you calm appendix vibes.
PinkConverse - My best friend had a false positive also. She now has a healthy 1 1/2 year old girl. Hope you're doing well.
Jad - Your belly shot looks awesome! Did get professional pictures done? You look so much farther along because you're having twins. How exciting! Thank you for sharing!
I just went to Babies R Us with a couple of friends. One friend is due in March and the other was giving us both advice on what we need. I had no idea that babies are in the Graco: SnugRide type car seats for only about 4-5 months. I'm planning on getting the SnugRide and a Snap and Go... then later using an Inglesina Zippy / Zooper / or / Maclaren Quest stroller. I'm pretty laid back about other purchases, but firm on the stroller decision. Has anyone used those strollers? What are the pros/cons?
Question for 2nd+ time mommies: What item would you recommend buying that 1st time mommies don't usually buy?

Love the Moondoggie! That site is awesome. There are several ones that I really liked but I think that we found THE ONE there, so thank you!!!!!

We are huge baseball fans---so this is perfect even if we have a girl, especially since my nickname is bear and everyone is already calling the baby the lil cub.The only thing that kills me is the bear is in pinstripes!
My DH is a Yankees fan so he'll like the stripes---me, on the other hand, a true Red Sox fan cringes at the thoughgt of it.

CONGRATS to all the new boy and girl discoveries! I was looking through the thread last night, trying to catch up, and giving DH the updated counts. He couldn't believe it either...
Niko's Mommy - Wow, what a scare. I hope that the antibiotics do the trick and your appendix cooperates for the next few months. Get lots of rest!!!
Jad - what great belly shots! I had the same question as PinkBeary - where did you take that photo?
maryanne - DH and I are big baseball fans too (DH is more of a Cubs fan, but has become a Yankees fan because I'm a huge one). Actually, we went on a tour of Yankee Stadium last week, and picked up a Pinstripe onesie for our little guy to wear...I couldn't resist.
Welcome Shaqangel!! I think I've seen you over in Tash's journal, no? Glad to see you aboard!

Question for 2nd+ time mommies: What item would you recommend buying that 1st time mommies don't usually buy?
Hi PinkBeary - I had a good laugh at your name & avatar....I know PinkBeary very well. My son has Bluebeary (a baby gift), and he loved it so much that after several months, I realized I better have a spare bluebeary...so I bought one on eBay... and the same seller had Pinkbeary up for sale, so I grabbed one of her too, just in case our next baby is a girl (this is like almost two years ago!)... Then about a year later, I realized that they were all retired and going up in price on eBay, so I thought if the still-imaginary second child is indeed a girl, I would want a spare pinkbeary, just in case... So I bought another pinkbeary on eBay a few months ago. LOL... two pinkbearys without even being pg yet (at the time), and I still don't even know if we have a girl or boy!!
Anyway, what items would I recommend that 1st timers don't usually buy... That's a tough one, because as we found that we needed something that we didn't already have with our son, we would just buy or borrow it from somewhere.
That being said, this time around, I'm buying a good breastfeeding pillow - the larger more pillow like one, not like the firm small boppy one that I had and hated.
Um....we didn't have a bouncy seat when DS was born, so we went and bought a plain one with toy bar... but soon after, we borrowed a Fisher price Kick & Play bouncer from someone DH used to work with. It vibrates and does sounds and lights, and honestly I don't know what we would have done without that one!
We also didn't buy a breast pump right away. Before having my son, I really didn't think I'd need it b/c I wasn't going back to work for at least a year. But then, he was born early and had BF'ing problems (and was in the NICU for two weeks), so pumping became a necessity early on. However, we started out renting a medela pump (expensive) before I finally broke down and actually bought one. And although I didn't use it for more than a few months (mostly to build up a stash of frozen milk), it was well worth the investment in a good pump (I had the ever-popular Medela Pump In Style).
Anyway, this time around, we're not really going to purchase more baby stuff because we have pretty much what we need in terms of baby gear.. but we are not opposed to buying other stuff that we never used with DS...

thanks for the welcome everyone.....gina73 yes i am in tash's journal
congrats on those who found out the sex of their babies.
sharing the news: when i found out i was so shocked that i had no clue what to do with myself. i actually found out at my annual physical - i was just a day or so late (no biggee). i got the book So you're going to be a daddy for dh and he was quite chuffed, didnt believe me at first but then excitement took over. i wrote my parents a letter and incl the first ultrasound pic with it and sent it with their christmas card so they actually received it before we got home. though i asked them not to tell anyone since we didnt want to break the news until christmas....my mother couldnt wait and told her mum who in turn turn all of mum's 9 siblings! but with everyone else it was mostly on an individual basis. i wore this t-shirt that said 'baby on board' (but i think people were to excited and focused on us being there that no one caught on :D ) or we wrote christmas cards to them from the baby. so when we told them that there's going to be a new addition - the reactions were beyond amazing....from looks of confusion to dropped jaws to me being tackled! we're SO glad we waited to share it in person with them. actually no one believed me cos i didnt have a belly until the this past week! now we'll start sharing the news with friends in america. dh's family is in the bahamas so he told them on christmas day on the phone.
i have belly shots to share:)

Nikosmommy - You can have all the good appendix vibes you need from me! Let's hope they can hold off on that operation as long as possible. And just keep growing that little guy and he'll be viable before you know it.
Thanks everyone for the comments on the belly shot. For gina and pinkbeary, my DH took the shot in front of the window curtains in our hotel room. Sadly, we don't have nice curtains in our current place, so that'll probably be the most attractive shot I get.

so i had a little breakdown yday. i'm at the stage where my regular clothes are getting snug around the waist and it jsut wasnt a pleasant morning. since i'm off today. i'm going to have to spend the day putting away my clothes and start getting maternity stuff. we headed to motherhood yday (the ONLY maternity store in the area) and i found some jeans and a skirt. i also ordered some stuff from old navy online.
where are u ladies getting your clothes from? a friend of mine is letting me borrow her stuff so that will help a whole lot.
i have my next appt on wed the 18th (day before our anniversary!) and gosh i'm excited to see the baby but SO not excited to step on that scale. after our nice, long holiday i dont even want to know how much i've gained :o

Pink- Great Luck w/ today's u/s! Looks like you are giving in and finding out the sex. I decided to do the same but we are telling the family that we aren't finding out.
Welcome ShaqAngel!! Great belly shots! I wish I was still in that shape.
Jad- What an amazing belly shot! Definitely a baby(s) belly.
Nothing big to update on. I went to a friend's son's 1st birthday party. Seeing all the little ones got me so much more excited to be a parent! It's funny because interacting with all the kids and babies reminded me that I do have that maternal instinct. I got to feed them, read, and play with them all. I guess I get so worried about what kind of mom I'm going to be and it was a good reminder that I'll do just fine.

Shaq, The only maternity store within 200 miles of me is Motherhood, so I've ordered a couple things from there, but I use jcpenny.com for cheaper, business clothes. Motherhood is so expensive and their return policy is horrible! Look on page 1 of this thread and there is a bunch of maternity clothing sites you could check out. Good luck!
Good luck to all the upcoming u/s ladies!! We need some more girls in here! :p

Maternity clothes - I’ve bought clothes from Motherhood, Old Navy, Gap Maternity and Target. Some of the clothes I got from my cousin are from (in addition to previous list) JCPenney, Sears and some places I could not figure out.
I just bought the most comfortable black pants from Gap this weekend. They have a no panel waist and are just really stretchy. Although there is no panel the waist has a thick band that I can barely feel when I wear them. I want to go back and get some other colors.
U/S is in 2 days. I gave DH a good ( and serious) reason why we need to wait to find out the sex. I told him that if I find out it is a boy on Wed that I may be upset for a while…since I really want a girl first. I said if we wait until the baby is born, I’ll be so excited to see my baby that I won’t care. He said okay you are probably right. Although I said that and do believe it could happen, now I really want to find out and just keep it from everyone IRL. We will see what happens. Maybe the baby will make the decision for us and just keep his/her legs closed.

Pink Good luck today! I'm looking forward to hearing your good results.
Nikosmommy, That is so scary! I'm glad to hear that the docs were able to get it under control and I hope you are able to postpone the surgery.
ds2003 I was the same way with my first pregnancy, I really wanted a girl first. We did not find out the sex before birth but I was really worried that if we had a boy, I would be very disappointed. Even though I had a strong feeling she was a girl, I convinced myself that she was a boy in order to prevent any disappointment.
Maternity Clothes Mine are mostly from Gap, with a few from Old Navy. I have a lot of borrowed clothes, but they are mostly for spring/summer. I don't have a large selection in my closet, I pretty much wear the same things every week. It gets tiring, but I can't bring myself to spend money on tons of clothes that I'll only wear for a few months.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have developed an uncomfortable ailment. I'm pretty sure that I have pubic symphysis separation and it is quite painful. I've felt it for a few weeks but yesterday it really hit hard and I was uncomfortable standing or walking all day. This morning, I could hardly make it into the bathroom but felt somewhat better after a warm shower. I did some exercise on Saturday (not much, just an easy 20 minutes on the elliptical) and I'm now thinking that wasn't a good idea. It sucks but I can manage it for now but I am worried that as I get bigger it is going to get worse. My DH has some trips planned this spring and I'm anxious about taking care of our 30 pound DD by myself. I'm also taking a trip to Florida to visit my parents alone with DD next month and I'm anxious about managing the plane trip. Ugh. The joys of pregnancy, I guess.
Otherwise I'm feeling pretty good and finally filling out my maternity clothes that I've been wearing for the past few weeks. We had some company-wode meetings last week so I was able to get my pregnancy out in the open some more which was nice. My boss is getting used to the idea as well, so that's good.
ds2003
01-16-2006, 12:38 PM
Orange - that sounds painful. Did you see a doctor about it or have you had it before and just know what it is?
Orange
01-16-2006, 12:52 PM
ds2003 - I just diagnosed myself. My SIL had it with her last pregnancy so that's how I knew what the symptoms were. I'll talk to my midwife at my next appointment and see if there is something I can do unless it gets a lot worse before then.
Lil_Mrs_0702
01-16-2006, 01:30 PM
Orange- That doesn't sound good, I would talk to the doc about it. Eventhough you have diagnosed yourself, your doc might have some tips or remedies for it that maybe your sis's doc didn't know about. I would hate for that to kick in while on the plane with your little one. I completely understand your anxiousness.
DS2003- Congrats on the big u/s. I admore your will power not to find out. I gave in and I am so excited to be able to start calling baby by name here and at home. We won't tell anyone IRL- Not even my parents!
-----
I am really anxious for the u/s. I keep wondering how I'm going to feel when I find out the sex. I'm not even sure which one I am rooting for. I just love lil boys and lil girls equally. I have a blast with both and am completely comfortable with either. In my head I think it's a girl but I secretly hope it's a boy, but everyone I know has a little boy and I love the bond between me and my mom so secretly I want a girl, but..... And it just goes on and on. I can't wait to find out!
orange- ouch! hope you feel better or at least get some pain relief!
well, I finally made a few maternity purchases this week. I am definitely in maternity pants but i can't decide how I feel about the tops. I can't wear the cute ones with the little tie behind the back because my boobs are too huge. so the ones i have are button down with extra room at the belly. I can't really fit in my old tops much but it feels funny to wear maternity tops. anyone having this issue with the tops? and are you just wearing them anyway? better to look funny in too early tops than just plain fat?
and regarding where to buy. . the vast majority of my purcases are from the gap, the rest are from motherhood but they really do have a crappy return policy.
Excitedbride- Yay for your big u/s on Wednesday!! Can't wait to see what everyone is having!
Maternity Shirts- I got a couple of non maternity long sleeve shirts at Old Navy that run long and have quite a bit of stretch to them. I figure that they are not a waste of money because I can use them as transition wear or as casual clothes after the baby. Plus they are pretty cheap 3 for $20 usually.
I am also careful to buy shirts that have stretch to them so that I can grow and shrink back down.
It's a BOY!
He wasn't shy about showing his "boy parts" off. My AFP test results came back positive again, I am now testing at a 1/103 chance, I was a 1/122. The ultrasound did not show any problems but they still want me to get a second opinion on Thursday and an amnio on Friday. Two ultrasound techs and my Dr. all looked at the U/S and none of them could detect anything. He said the defect could be too small or the baby could be too small to show anything yet, or of course the baby could be fine. Not the news I wanted to hear but atleast I will find out one way or the other what we are up against with the amnio from what I understand. The Dr. said it could be nothing, but an amnio would rule out the false positive result of the AFP test, again from what I understand. They didn't give me any pictures!!! He said he would get some better shots for me on Friday after the amnio and give me some of those. I always understand what the Dr. is saying when I'm in the office and then the more I try to remember what he said the more confused I get.
pinkCongrats on your boy!! I hope all goes well with your amnio.
shaq Don't sweat the wieght gain, girl. You looked so tiny in those pics. Besides, I'm not sure anyone in the thread has beaten me yet- as of two weeks ago at my last check up, I've gained 17 lbs. I've been reading everyone else saying they've gained 1 lb, 6 lbs. Not me.
dansgirl Beautiful u/s!! Thanks for posting the pics.
Maternity clothes Old Navy and Motherhood, plus some regular sweatpants and tops that I found for $5 at Walmart, that I bought in a larger size.
OK...just NOW feeling caught up!
Izzy - great belly shot!
Mystikal - we bought our first baby purchase this weekend too! We bought the bedding from PB Kids that we really wanted. Wasn’t it fun, yet totally bizarre to buy something substantial for your upcoming baby?
Dan's*Girl - Wow, no doubt about it, that’s a BOY! Thanks for posting your u/s pics. The 3-d photo is amazing! Someone on LJ posted their 3-d pic along with a photo of her baby when he was born, and the resemblance was spot-on.
Shaq - I’m right there with you. Still not ready for maternity clothes, but my regular clothes don’t fit (for the most part). I ended up buying a couple of regular pants on-sale at the Gap in a size up from my normal size, which is doing the trick for the time being. But don’t worry about it - you still look tiny!
Orange - Ugh, that sounds awful. What exactly is pubic symphysis separation? I hope you feel better soon. I agree with the other posts and would definitely mention this to your doctor.
ds2003 - do you think you could post a link to the black Gap pants you mentioned? Good luck with your upcoming u/s!
Pink - congrats on your little son! I still can’t believe how many boys this thread has…Wishing you the best of luck on your amnio!
I got my integrated screen results today. Of course, I accidentally deleted the voicemail from my OB, so I'm trying to remember the numbers. For Down's Syndrome, the risk was 1/10,000, for Spina Bifida it was 1/6,100, and for Trisonomy 18 it was 1/280. That last number has me freaked out a bit. My OB said it was within normal range, but that I should get this checked out with a fetal scan in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know what is a normal risk range for this?
Pink_Converse
01-17-2006, 07:27 AM
gina-I'm not sure if you are taking the same test as me but mine was the AFP and for my age they said 1/800 was normal for the Trisomy. I am 27.
EVERYONE, there are too many of you to list. Thank you for the well wishes and the prayers. I really appreciate it.
I'm scared. Even if the risk is small, I'm still scared now that the test came back positive again and they want me to get a second opinion and an amnio. Never skip over all the scary parts in pregnancy books like I arrogantly did. I'm having to go back and re-read them now. I can't wait until this is all over and I can come back here and say how dumb I was for worrying for nothing!!!:D ***fingers crossed***
Hello all :)
THANK YOU ALL for the well wishes and good thoughts. It is really appreciated.
It has been a couple of challenging days for us. Niko has been so sick :( He has the worst cold and it's starting to break up now. I feel so bad cause he doesn't know how to blow his nose yet so he's miserable. Poor Brian has been getting up every night with him for me.
I really believe I have the best husband in the world. When I came home on Saturday he cleaned the whole house, took care of Niko and just let me relax on the couch. The same happened on Sunday. He was exhausted by Sunday night, but got up enough energy to do laundry. He wouldn't even let me sit down and fold it with him. His dad was here yesterday and he was a great help too.
Now Niko and I are alone today :( I'm not sore any longer and feel much better but the antibiotic is kicking my a&& BIG TIME. It makes the first tri seem like a walk in the park. It makes me sleepy and the nasuea is back in full force :( The evening pill isn't so bad cause I take it right before bed, but the morning pill is doing me in.
So I wanted to THANK YOU ALL again for the well wishes. I'll be back soon.
Well, it's taken me the entire weekend to catch up on this thread. It just goes so quickly.
Nikos- I hope you get better quickly. Have you tried to call your doc/pharmacy to see if there's something you can eat or drink or something else you can do to make the meds easier on your stomach? High doses on antibiotics can really be rough, but they may have ideas to make it easier on you.
Sounds like you have a great hubby. Glad he's stepping up to help so much.
Pink- I'd be petrified regardless of the odds too. I hope the week goes quickly so you can sit back and enjoy the rest of pregnancy.
Maternity Clothes- I have a lot from last time around, but most are summer clothes. Luckily my cousin has been very generous, and has supplied me with most of my cooler weather stuff. Old Navy is the closest and cheapest store around, so I'm doing most of my shopping there.
ds2003- 12 weeks:eek: . I had trouble making through my 6 week class last time.
shoulda- I'm with you on the maternity tops. Pants with the low panel are great right now (well, a few are and others are still way too big). But shirts just look rediculous. I do have one or two XS shirts from Old Navy that actually make me look pregnant. I hate to buy any more since I know I'll outgrow them in just a few weeks.
I remember last time around Target having some very basic T-shirts (long and short sleeve) that were cut shorter and a little smaller so they looked much better in the beginning. I need to remember to look there again.
Well, nothing new here. We started telling close friends and family last week. I really enjoyed telling my 9 year old nephew and 7 year old neice. Their faces were priceless. We'll tell the rest of the world (out of town friends and co-workers) after my ultrasound. The big one is next Thursday June 26th. We're going a week early since DH already has that day off- otherwise I'd wait another week. It's also nice to break up my appts. I still get so nervous that I'll lose this pregnancy. It'll be nice to see the baby and then hear the heartbeat again a week later.
Well, Mia's demanding I come play. BBL
Gina – If I can find them online (I bought them in the store). I’ll post a link.
Maternity shirts – I wear some now and then depending on the cut. Some of them are way to big right now. I have a mix of L and XL which is great, because I know some of the L won’t make it the entire pregnancy.
Nikosmommy – I hope you both feel better soon. Feeling nauseous and tired with a toddler around cannot be easy.
So far this pregnancy has been a walk in the park. I hope that next time around it will be as easy since I’ll a toddler to deal with.
I plan to call my sister tonight to work out the details on getting the crib and dresser. DH and I haven’t’ made any large baby purchases yet. Since this is our first and I believe I’m having 2 showers, we may wait. I do want to get a glider so we may buy that or maybe one of the grandparents will.
The word is slowly spreading at work. I only told a handful of people (literally). I’m not the type to just tell anyone, but I don’t hide the belly. I actually like showing it off, especially if I wear a fitted shirt. I have to say that I love flaunting the belly.
something interesting .... the Sept 2006 mommies are already up to EDD of Sept 25th !!!!!!!!!:eek: wow
A co-worker brought me some of his sons baby stuff today - he said we can use it or give it to someone else. He brought us a walker, infant car seat & base, bigger type of carseat (front facing), a few boppy pillows and a floor playgym. Most of them look gender neutral so we will probably use most of them. :) yah less we have to buy.
Thought I would share a pic of the bedding I am "in love" with .... I really hope DH likes it as much ... but he will probably give his normal response "whatever makes you happy dear". We are going to purchase white furniture
Sunshine -- that's cute bedding you posted! :) And a big YAY! for getting free baby gear so you don't have to buy so much!
Has anyone else picked bedding yet ? or even picked out Nursery furniture ?
Call me a bah-humbug, but...
Nursery furniture: already have it all. Just going to use the same stuff for baby2. It's about as mismatched as you can get, though: medium oak crib, dark wood change table, black dresser with yellow sun, moon and star transfers on it. They are mismatched like that because they were all hand-me-downs from different people when we were pg with Connor, but it all works for us. :)
We're also not painting/decorating the old nursery. We're going to do what we did with Connor - wait until after they're out of the crib, and then buy them their good set of (matching) furniture that they'll spend the rest of their childhood & teen years using. Also, wait until they're about 2 or so to paint and redecorate the nursery into more of a big kid room - something that we won't tire of after a year or two. :)
Bedding: I have two ordinary/random crib sheets. Nothing special, but they're functional. I didn't bother with nursery bedding for Connor (I didn't see the point -- ALL authorities on the subject recommend that you don't use the quilt with babies, and our local Health Region's official stand on crib bumpers are NOT to use them b/c baby can get trapped in one and suffocate), and I won't bother with this child either. We'll maybe get a nice soft fleece blanket for the baby that they can use when they're a few months old and it's getting colder outside. Other than that, it'll all be hand-me-downs for baby2 (clothing excluded - if baby2 is a boy, I'll be making sure 50% of their stuff is brand new). I just can't justify buying brand new blankets, etc., when 99% of stuff that we got brand new when Connor was born still look, feel and function like brand new. :)
Gina73 About the trisomy 18 test, my result was "risk less than 1 in 100". I thought that was bad too, but when I called back the office to get more information, they said that the lab only reports less than 1 in 100 when in the normal range instead of actual numbers. Doc said nothing to worry about but I do plan to bring it up again at my next appointment.
connorsmommy, we're in the same nursery/bedding situation as you! We did not find out the sex last time so everything we have is gender-neutral. I have several plain, soft solid-colored crib sheets, a white bedskirt and a white bumper for our bedding and that's it. We did have to buy all of our furniture so it is pretty much coordinated, but we didn't go to any great lengths to decorate the room. When DD moved into her Big Girl Room, we made more of an effort and let her have some input on how it was decorated.
For this baby, we will clean up the room and touch up the paint but leave it the same color. I also need to get a rug since the one we had moved into DD's new room with her.
gina, I'm definitely going to mention it to my midwife at my next appointment. From what I've read, the only way to do a true diagnosis is an x-ray or MRI, which I'm not willing to do while pregnant. I am hoping that she can give me some info on exercises or something that I can do or even refer me to a chiropracter or physical therapist. I also requested a book from my library that has some more information.
Sunshine- the bedding is absolutely adorable!
Buying Nursery Stuff- Guilty! DH got the crib for me for Christmas, no mattress yet. We also have our bedding and a pack and play, high chair, and neutral clothes. I need to go over to my uncle's house still and see what goodies they have for us. He has 5 children and his youngest just turned 1 so they have lots of stuff to give away!
We still need things like a diaper pail, dresser, and toy bins. I am so bad, I keep registering for all these cute toys! I just can't stop... One leads to another and I think I registered for 1/2 of Target's toy dept!
Babylust – I tried a warm heating pad at night and that seemed to work wonders for my back. [Gosh I feel so old ;) ]
Excitedbride – my DS just turned 2 in October. He’s pretty mellow, when he wants to be. Hopefully he’ll be ok for our US appointment.
Jad, Izzy – CUTE belly shots!
Niko’s – sending you some good appendix vibes. I will definitely say a prayer for you. And Poor Niko..hope he feels better soon.
Shaqangel – Welcome! What cute belly shots! During my first PG, I bought a lot of my clothes from Motherhood, but now that I’m looking at them, they seem dated and old. I don't really like the quality. I’m planning on ordering some stuff from Old Navy. Can’t beat that $5 shipping.
Pink – Congrats on your BOY!! Yay!
Orange – Ouch! I hope you feel better soon and can get some relief.
Shoulda – I’ve started wearing my maternity pants this weekend. (Gosh I forgot how comfy they were!..haha! ) But…I don’t really like the way maternity tops look on me now. I feel frumpy and fat in them. :/ So I’m wearing my regular tops until I totally outgrow them. I have a lot of the Old Navy tops that Lil Mrs is referring to.
MOD: Can you please add me to the US list for Jan 24th. Thanks!
sunshine: I love the bedding!
We never got really into decorating the nursery. We've been remodeling our house/adding on an addition since we moved in 5 years ago. We never did get anything hung on the walls in the nursery and the quilt and bumper ended up in the closet when Mia moved into her crib at a few months of age. I probably won't even bother getting them back out. We also have a mismatch of furniture (a hand me down crib that meets all of the current safety recommendations, an old dresser DH re-finished and an antique dresser that was my great great grandmothers and will remain Mia's as she grows regardless if it matches anything- it's absolutely beautiful). We are moving Mia out of the nursery in the next few months and into a full sized bed. It's also not the nicest (from IKEA) and has been used quite a bit. I figure we'll buy her good furniture once this baby moves into a bed and I can trust she won't draw on or destroy anything worth a decent amount of money. We will make her next room much nicer with the walls decorated and much girlier (the nursery is gender neutral).
Sunshine – nice bedding and what a thoughtful co-worker.
Furniture/Bedding/Décor– The crib and dresser are a hand me down from my sister. I’m thinking about getting a glider and I want to get a toy chest or bench or something. I’m with Connorsmommy on the bedding. We have more than a few blankets already. I just need sheets and a bed skirt. I do like bed skirts so I will search for a pleated one. I’ve gone back and forth over the bumper, but will most likely not get one. We are not repainting the walls although I wanted to and DH did not. They are a dark beige color now. We will also get a rug.
Sunshine - loooove that bedding. :)
Has anyone else picked bedding yet ? or even picked out Nursery furniture ?
Not yet. We are waiting to find out the sex of the baby before we buy new bedding. Although we already have my DS's bedding, I'd like to change it up and get something new for #2. Since my DS was a surprise, we bought this gender-neutral bedding set from Target. I'll probably sell it on craigslist/ebay or something. It's still in fairly good condition.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00007GU5Z.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg
We are keeping the same furniture and crib though. One thing I'd really like to get, that we didn't get the first time around is a nice glider. Not sure if we're going to re-paint the nursery or not. Right now the colors are Tiffany Blue on top, and Sage Green on the bottom with a chair-rail across the middle. If this one is a girl, we'll probably repaint and go totally girly. :D
once again thanks for the welcome! i cant believe how many june babies we have:)
i shared the news with my co-workers today and everyone is so excited....
it was funny cos i told them i dont have pics from my trip yet but i just have one i can show them and i pulled out the ultrasound pic (the first one we got) and it took a second or 2 before it hit them and then the news spread like wildfire! pretty cool...first everyone has a look of shock when we tell them and then all we hear are screams :D
thanks for the tips on clothes. i'm still in regular clothes but i just want to be prepared for when i have to make a transition. if dh would stop throwing EVERYTHING in the dryer at least my pants would still fit (all my gym pants are much too short now - ugh...thats another story!)
crib and bedding we saw some that we like, but havent ordered or bought anything yet. we both like the darker furniture so thats makes it easy. as for bedding, i have tons saved at home and we'll decide once we get the furniture ordered.
question: for those who ordered furniture, how long did they say it would take to arrive? i know we need to get a move on with this, but somehow it seems like i have tons of time and then i panic and think i have barely any time :rolleyes:
here's my 18 wk shot (i feel so much bigger this wk!)
Hello everyone! I finally had a chance to read through the last few pages to catch up with all of you (if I miss anyone/anything -sorry) --
Dan's Girl and Pink Congrats on your BOYS! So excited for you both.
Pink Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping you get good news soon.
Shaq A big warm welcome to you!
Sunshine Lovin' the girly bedding. All that pink and purple = so cute!
Clothes I'm a big fan of Gap and Old Navy. That's where I've gotten most of my clothes thus far. I love he stretchy cotton-y shirts too. Very comfy and shows off the bump. I'm from the "embrace the belly" camp....at least then you look PG not just frumpy.
Nursery bedding Bought it off e-bay (Pottery Barn bunnies) a few weeks ago. In love with it! Wish I had a pic to show you guys...it has a white background and bunnies in yellow, red, blue and green. I got the quilt (for decor purposes only), bumpers (to be removed a few months after little one is born), fitted green gingham sheet, window valance and a decorative pillow, which I plan to put on the rocker. It also came with a light green stroller blanket with a bunny on it. Compared to everyone here...especially the second-timers...I feel nearly compulsive!
Speaking of which... (furniture) We spent this weekend going to all of the baby stores within a one-hour radius. We visited five stores and found a set we really loved, so we went for it. We wound up going with the Sorelle Glenda crib in white and the matching combo dresser in Jenny (coordinates with the crib even though it's a different pattern). No idea how to post, but they are able to be viewed on Sorelle's website. While we were at it we purchased a Dutalier glider/rocker and recliner from the same furniture store, along with the ottomon, both in white. The fabric we chose is a soft green/white pattern.
Delivery time We were told 8-10 weeks for the furniture. That means we should be able to schedule delivery for my 7th month, if all goes according to schedule. I figured that'll give us time to pick out wall hangings, decor items, etc. and not have to worry if I deliver early. Probably a bit soon -- I'm sure we could have waited another month or so -- but we wanted to work on picking furniture out while we had a plan-free three-day weekend to ourselves. The glider takes 4-6 weeks, but will be delivered along with the other items.
The name I like so far is Hayden :) .
shaqangel - We ordered ours from BRU which was only supposed to take 4-6 weeks but it took 2.5 months b/c the crib we wanted was on back order! :eeks: So we barely got ours in time (at around 38 wks). I would definitely start shopping soon, so you don't have the same problem I had. :rolleyes: What a cute belly shot!
First, CONGRATS to all who have had their big U/S...and on the Boys, Girl (only two so far, what are the odds?) and surprised. Good luck to those whose U/S are coming up. I must admit, this U/S has really made this PG much more real to me...not that it wasn't real, but I think it really helped me bond with this baby and start to really enjoy my PG.
Pink ~ Just wanted to say you are in my thoughts and I'm sorry you are going through this. When I asked about my results, my M/W said that everything must have come back negative as she hadn't received the information yet (about a week after my last bloodtest.) I didn't question her on it, as I wasn't really concerned about it. I have an appoitment tonight and will recofnrim with her that everything is alright. Good luck with the Amnio!
Nikosmommy ~ I wanted to wish you some get well vibes...it it's not M/S with you it's an appendix...who would've thought. Hopefully you continue to get better and surgery can wait. Sounds like your DH is doing his best to help out...isn't it a nice treat (hopefully it last for a long time for you.)
Shaq ~ Welcome to the Group...I find it amazing that we still have new people joining. And good for you for keeping it a secret for so long. I'm a terrible secret keeper with friends and family, although it's just starting to spread through work for me. The bulging belly isn't easy to hide anymore, so people are figuring it out. I love how you told everyone though.
Sunshine ~ I love that crib bedding and had been eyeing it myself (when I was so sure I was having a girl) but did want something a little more gender neutral and thank goodness I did, cause we found out we are having a boy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Which bring me to the following:
I FINALLY felt my baby move inside me...granted it only happened once and I haven't felt it since, but it was definitely the baby and not gas. I was so excited and so relieved to have felt him (three light touches, like someone gently tickling my arm) Now if only it would come back and be a little more consistent, I would be happy. But I know that he's moving and healthy, so I'm not as worried anymore.
Nursery Bedding ~ This has been a constant worry and obsession for me. Luckily, I did buy my bedding already. It was a splurge, but will be used for two children and I really felt like we needed to have a starting place for decorating a nursery. After looking at comparable stuff up here (Canada) I figure I got a GREAT deal on what I bought. And I realize that the quilt probably won't be used in the first year, I figured I could hang it and make a beautiful art piece (the quilt is gorgeous IMO.) So I'm not too worried about it. And we now know what we are going to paint the nursery. The walls will be a nice soft sagey green. About a foot from the ceiling will be a border in a soft creamy yellow. I'm excited about it and it looks as though I can convince DH to start painting in Feb/early March. Can't wait!
Nursery Furniture ~ Now this has been a constant headache for me, as I don't know what to do. My sister originally told me she bought a white crib and change table for us, which is what I wanted. But I didn't trust that she actually had it (and she's been going through alot so was trying not to add to her stress.) The DH's boss had a crib she was selling that we thought was set. Came to find out it was only a crib (a good one...Morigeau) but we'd have to buy matching furniture and DH decided he didn't like the Natural wood finish.
So we started looking. The first store we went in had a BEAUTIFUL set that we loved in an Antique White finish. It was a floor model that the owner was going to sell, but DH didn't like the owner and swore we weren't going to buy from him.
So I did some research and dragged him to literally 10 different places on Saturday, ALL OVER town (we spent the whole day driving) and didn't find anything nearly as nice or for as good a price, as the original place.
So we made the decision that I would go back and buy the set we saw, well now my sister has informed me she DOES have the crib in her possession for me if I want it. My problem, I know the brand (Storkcraft) and the crib is not solid wood and doesn't look very sturdy or nice. I would rather the real wood nicer set (to go through two kids) but I don't want to upset my sister...oh the decisions. Any suggestions?
Clothes ~ I am in my maternity clothes full time and there is no going back. I don't think I'm that big, but to hear that some of you are still in normal clothes makes me think I'm huge. My mother went and bought material and patterns to make me about 6 Mat tops and 3 pairs of pants. I hope it works out, as she's a great seamstress...but we will see. Unfortunately, I'm in plus size clothes and there aren't alot of option for second hand stores or hand-me-downs from friends. But with 6 tops and 4 pants, I figure I can get through the next few months.
Another QOTD...had anyone started thinking about breastfeeding vs. bottlefeeding and getting themselves prepared?
I had a Breast reduction about 10 years ago and only have a 50/50 chance of being able to breastfeed. Unfortunately, I won't know what my body is going to do until I have the baby. I really would like to BF, but it may not be my choice. So I've just started doing some reading and am going to go to a LLL meeting, so at least I'm being proactive and doing what I can. Anyone else starting to think (or worry) about this yet? I've also started looking into Bottles, pumps, formula, etc...just so I'm prepared. Am I obessessing, cause some people think I am...

Dan's*Girl ~ I think that bedding will look fine with that color crib.
Bedding ~ We haven't purchased anything yet. If we have another boy we'll probably just use the same set we have. If it's a girl we'll buy something.
Another QOTD...had anyone started thinking about breastfeeding vs. bottlefeeding and getting themselves prepared? ~ I plan to BF. I don't have really strong feelings about BFing like many moms do, but I will give it my best try.

Dan's Girl ~ I love the bedding. HAD I known that we were having a boy, I would've bought the cutest bedding set I saw. It was a custom made Toronto Maple Leafs bedding set. IT was adorable, but I didn't think it would work for a girl (wish I had known.) DH has already started bugging me about doing the nursery in Maple Leaf Blue (you can buy the team paint colour now too from Home Depot.)
I think it will match really well. Good choice!
Pink ~ I love your bedding too, it's so cute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All these pictures are making me reconsider my choices...
I really wanted something light and gender neutral for the bedding, which is why we (I) went with pastel colours (green and yello). I also decided that I didn't want to go with dark nursery furniture and wanted natural wood or white.
DH of course wants dark...so we compromised and have agreed on the Cream colour. We have DH's old bedroom set, used for both him and his dad, that will be passed on and is perfect for a boy. I told DH when we move the baby from a nursery into a Big Boy room, then we can go with dark colours (maple leaf blue) and sports themes. But our baby is going to be in a baby room as far as I'm concerned.
But now I'm beginning to wonder if I was too hasty...this is not the time to be second guessing myself though. *Make a decision Kim and stick with it.*
Sunshine, I meant to post earlier that I really like that bedding as well. I got something similar for my DD's Big Girl room:
Mrs Brownie – Have you seen the actual crib your sister has? If not, don’t make your decision until you see it and touch it.
Feeding – I plan to exclusively breastfeed for 6 months. I’ll have to pump for the last 3 since I’ll be working. That’s my goal. After 6 months I’ll start added solid foods. If I can continue to breastfeed to the 1 year mark, I will. I’m just about finished reading So That’s What They Are For!. I’ve enjoyed it so far. It really puts into perspective the different challenges and that if you really want to do it, it will take time to get it right. For the Bradley course I’m taking, I have to pick up the The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. I just ordered it last night on Amazon along with some other required books.
DS ~ I just got 'The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding[/b] from the library. It has come highly recommended from a couple of people, but mostly my sister who had absolutely NO problems BF my nephew. So I'm reading that now, but starting to worry about what the future holds for us. I'm just hoping I don't stress out too much about it. But I'm going to do everything in my power to be able to, I just hope the old boobs cooperate.
As for the crib, I haven't seen the actual one she has. But we saw a similar on that she pointed out to me, then she described it to me and it matches one that's available through Toys R Us. To be honest, it's more the make (Storkcraft) that I have issues with. They don't seem sturdy or well made and from what I saw for the many we looked at, they use plastic pieces to attach parts (the drop down slider is plastic.) So I'm really leaning more towards to wood stuff, especially since the parents are helping us buy it.
My parent are buying the crib (comes with the mattress), IL's are buying the change table/dresser unit (comes with the pad) and we will be buying the glider (or some combination thereof.)
So I pretty much have my mind made up, I just feel bad for my sister after the grief I put her through. But, I could always have my in-laws use the other crib for when the baby is visiting them. Who knows...I will talk to my sister and see.
Mrs Brownie – I’d say then go for the new crib. I don’t know how your sister will take the news esp if she paid for the crib. Keeping it at your parents or ILs is a good idea. I hope my boobs cooperate too..esp since I think I have flat nipples
BFing can be hard. My sister had latch problems in the beginning, but things worked out and she went on to BF for 18 months. The book I’m reading says it can take 3 weeks to get it all going well. A friend of mine also said the same thing. She had problems in the beginning but now things work like clock work. It’s not for everyone but I think that if you are willing to try you should try for 3 weeks before throwing in the towel and ask for help when you need it.
qotd-
Furniture: I'm hoping to use DD's crib, but DD has a lot to say in the matter. If I can get her transitioned to a toddler bed, that will save us having to buy a second crib. Her nursery is very gender neutral so would work great for the boy.
BF vs bottle feeding: I do plan to BF again, at least 6 months. I had some supply issues I wasn't expecting last time so at least now I can try to prepare. It's great that those of you who are thinking of doing it are researching it, I think it will help a lot. I would also highly recommend if your hospital has a lactation consultant, asking to meet with them before you are discharged. (I really wish I would have done that!) The first two weeks were truly miserable, but once things got sorted out with the help of a great consultant, we were good to go.
Hello everyone! and thanks to those that shared their mternity shirt struggles. who knew this would be so hard?!?
we have made a few purchases/decisions recently. DH and I hit every place we could find that sells cribs over the past few weeks and decided on a convertible sleigh crib from USA Baby with matching dresser/changing table and a mattress included. it's their once a trimester sale so it was quite affordale. our nursery is going to be teeny tiny so we went with white as I think the dark would just make the room seem smaller. but i really wanted either cherry or black. I know the black sounds icky but they had a gorgeous crib in a distressed black finish. still need to find the glider.
bedding- I love the patchwork quilt/star theme in pottery barn kids. I can't decide if it would work for a girl too so I will probably wait until I know the sex and can then make a decision.
breastfeeding- I am going to give it my best shot. only one of my friends has been successful in that area and everyone else has horror stories but I am not going to give up!! (easy to say now! :rolleyes: )
I felt the baby move this past weekend too! little tiny flutters in the stomach area. I know now that I also felt it a few weeks ago but now it's confirmed. I can't wait until the movement is more regular!!!
Ramona: That bedding will look good with that bed. I love that bedding for a boy. That is one that dh said he would really like "IF" it were a boy.
orange: that is some cute big girl bedding :)
shaq: you must be in Cali - The sun & a pool .... ahhhhhh It is mids 30's here with a rain/ snow mix. Blah .... btw: You look great
For those of you that get free furniture/ borrow from other family members are sooo lucky. This is the 1st baby in our family in 9 yrs. :eek: I still have Andrews old baby bedding - I could use it but I would really like some new stuff ... here is his gender neutral room - cause I did not know he was a boy til he got here ... my surprise baby.
I need to review some BFing books before this baby comes. I nursed my DD for 17 months, but it is much easier at the end - I just put my boob somewhere in the vicinity of her mouth and she'd latch on. I think that for both BFing and for labor, doing lots of reading helps a ton. I didn't have any issues BFing from the beginning and I attribute it to doing so much reading. I know it is far away for us, but the biggest thing for avoiding really sore nipples is by making sure the baby's mouth is open wide, wide, wide before latching. And if it's not right, delatch and try again.
I think we've decided to go with the new crib (I just feel bad for my sister, she said she did pay for it, but it was only a small amount.) But DH has a say in this too, which he has decided he wants to exercise. After saying 'Honey, get whatever you want I don't care...' he's changed his tune and is making it alot more complicated than it needs to be. Thanks for the reassurance though, I guess I kind of feel like a crib snob, but I want something that will last through two kids and will look nice.
I wish we had more places (what I wouldn't give for a real Babies R Us, or USA Baby, etc.) For me to order a crib online is more in shipping than the crib actually cost. And suprisingly, there really aren't many furniture places out here. (DH thinks we need to open a Baby Store, he thinks that where the 'Big Money' is.)
As for BF, I'm glad to hear that others are starting to think about it too. I think most of my friends were successful, but not without a struggle. I was amazed to find out that you could take supplements to help with production, etc. I just have to wait and see if I'm able to (if the milk ducts are still attached to my nipples, could be something done in my reduction.) So I think I will register for bottles and a pump, but not open it until I know what's happening.
Thanks for the recommendation on the Lactation Consultant. I'm kind of curious to see how the LLL (La Leche League) meeting goes and what they can offer too. I guess it can't hurt! Has anyone made the decision that they definitely don't want to BF and are going straight to bottles? Have you researched formula, bottles, etc? Just curious...need all the help on this stuff I can get.
I also plan to BF. Unfortunately it didn't go so well with Mia. I had supply problems, most likely from my breast reduction 7 years ago. I did, however, BF and FF for 9 months before going to stictly formula.
MrsBrownie: The only suggestion I can make is try to find a LC that has experience with women that have had a reduction. I'm hoping to this time to see if it'll make a difference.
Jay&Erinn ~ Did you read anything that helped along the way? I'm worried that my reduction won't allow me to BF at all, and I'm finding that it's more important to me than I thought. I mean, I will be fine if I can't, but I really hope that I can (at least to BF and supplement, but let our baby get some BM.)
It was recommended that I check out the BFAR web-site, which was great and recommended a book, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm hoping that if I go to the LLL meeting, they can order it for me, as it comes through their publishing company.
Was there anything else you found helped, didn't help, etc. You are the first person who I've heard from that has tried to BF after a reduction and I'm curious to learn about your experience (plus it makes me feel better knowing that at least you were able to do it even just a little.) Did you ever try any of the herbs/supplements to help with production?
Thanks for sharing with me.
PS ~ Clearly it's a slow day at work, look at all my posts...sorry! Hopefully work picks up soon, or it's going to be a long 4 months till mat leave!
dan's girl - I think that bedding would look great with that crib.
breastfeeding: I definitely plan on bf'ding. Didn't have much luck with Jaden, since we couldn't get the latch down properly, so I exclusively pumped for 6 months. That was HARD! but definitely worth it, IMO. Toward the end of the 6 months, I started having supply problems since I couldn't keep up with his demand. I wish I could have pumped longer though. I currently have the Ameda PY, but am thinking about getting the Medela PISA because I've heard so many great reviews on it.
you ladies are lucky to have so many choices in terms of where to look for furniture and bedding. everything is so limited here so we're mostly doing online research and then we have figure out how to order.
quick question. . has anyone had tightening of the uterus at all? i have been at my desk for a few hours and got up to pee and I swear my belly felt really tight. tighter than usual. no cramps but tight nonetheless. I just want to make sure that is normal for this early.
shouldaeloped -- I don't know if it's normal, but I felt it yesterday too. It went away pretty quickly, and I haven't felt it since. I haven't felt a reason to worry. I'm sure that doesn't help, but I thought I'd share my experience.
Bedding and furniture Not sure about the furniture. I am keeping my DS in his crib for as long as he wants. So we might be buying a new crib. We will be using the same changing table. I haven't really thought about bedding, I have been waiting til we find out the sex.
Another QOTD...had anyone started thinking about breastfeeding vs. bottlefeeding and getting themselves prepared? I will be bf again. I bf DS for a year and it went quite well.
