Congrats RubyI will probably be sad/upset for a few mins if I see that we are having a boy cause I want a girl so bad. I am sure "IF" it is a boy I will be fine with it but it will take me awhile to get used to it.

Now that people are starting to find out the sex of their babies, it has me thinking about baby names again. We picked up a baby names book this weekend and after looking through a lot of it, I'm really starting to like the boy name DH originally suggested (which I liked but wasn't crazy about) and hs is starting to like the girl name I originally suggested (which he absolutely hated). There just doesn't seem to be many names that I can imagine calling my child. Anyone else not finding a name that you adore?

Congratulations on your baby boy Ruby!

Alright I am going to attempt to catch up.

Paranoia: I have actually been pretty calm since I passed the point of my first miscariage. Especially after I heard the heartbeat. I guess I am choosing to be in ignorant bliss now that I have passed my first trimester and heard the heart beat.

Virtual Baby Shower: I am definitely in! Sounds like a great idea.

Maternity Clothes: I am starting to wear them. I only need to really be wearing the pants but I love the comfort of maternity clothes. I also bought a lot of stuff that stretches as I grow so that they don't look oversized. I don't have too much of a clothes budget so I am trying be really practical with what I buy. I think everything has been on clearance and I haven't spent more than $15 on any article of clothing. I have a friend and possibly my aunt who will give me some more clothes. They were both SAHM during pregnancy so I am not sure if there is anything that I can wear to work. I'll take them either way. It will be nice to have some weekend clothes as well.

NYE: I had plans to go out but it was about 45 minutes away and I know that once I am tired I have to fight to keep my eyes open so I was little nervous of having to drive that far. We ended up having a date night and saw King Kong and then watching the fire works from our balcony. We could see about 5-6 shows from our back deck. I'm glad that we stayed home.

Baby movements: I have felt some fluttering in my lower abdomen here and there. Still no good kicks or punches yet. I'm sure with in the next couple weeks baby will be more active.

So does anyone have any gut feeling of how the pregnancy will go? I have a gut feeling that it is going to be a girl and recently I have been feeling like she will come a week to a week in a half early. I keep accidentally saying she and that I am a week further along than I am. Who knows if it actually means anything. I think its fun to predict and keep them my little secrets (to share only with CC ladies ofcourse).

Well I don't have anything else pregnancy related to catch up on. I did discover myspace this weekend and I spent all of yesterday creating my page. It was a lot of fun. I even blogged about pregnancy and the baby and put pictures on there.

Oh wait I do have something to say about the baby.... We started setting up the baby room! We put the crib and the pack and play up and did some of the decals on the wall. It's actually starting to look like a baby will be moving in! It was a lot of fun even though DH has been a serious grouch lately. He got so frustrated putting the crib together. Oh well, I guess he's allowed to have his days too. I know that I have them!:rolleyes:

Happy New Year Ladies!

Gosh, I haven't posted in so long. The holidays got the better of me - I was completely exhausted last week. Hoping I'm back on track this week.

Had my 16w monthly appt last week. They said the baby is fine, but all they did was check my bp, weight, etc! She couldn't get the h/b on the doppler, so she did a quick u/s and we saw it beating. I had a bit of a meltdown after the appt (in the waiting room with my DH). I felt very rushed and had questions I felt silly asking, because it all seemed so routine for them. I complained of exhaustion and all I got was 'try to get more rest' :rolleyes: . I am going to be much more firm at my 20w and remind them that I'm 39, this is my first pregnancy, it took me 23 months and more than one m/c to make this baby.

paranoia yes, see above. I can't wait to really start feeling the baby move. I'm still down a few pounds from pre-preg, but my belly is rounding out. I'll breathe another sigh of relief when I hit 24 weeks. People keep calling me 'mommy' and I just want to say 'not just yet ....'

insomnia yes. Last week, I woke up every morning at 3:40 am, regardless of when I went to sleep. I couldn't get back to sleep. People told me the baby will be born at 3:40 am!

movement 2 nights ago, I was feeling what I would describe as 'tremors' that would last a few seconds. Seemed to be too long for a 'kick' or hiccup and didn't seem to be in the right places. I'm also curious as to exactly where the baby is. I'm 17w, so my uterus is 3 finger widths below my belly button, but that doesn't tell me where the baby is!

doppler judging from my overreaction to not enough information and my paranoia, I should probably not get one. Although it would be fun.

virtual shower count me in!

My big u/s is 1/24, but we're not finding out the sex.

Congrats to all the girl and boy mamas!!

Girls... my "not feeling so hot" this morning is quickly turning into a head cold.. stuffed nose, sore throat, swollen glands and headache. My dr. gave me a list of medicine I can take but I do not have it w/ me (it is at home and I am at work)... around 12 I took Tylenol extra strength and it is doing nothing for me... which makes me nervous because that means it is coming on really strong... and I know I could call my dr. but I wanted to wait before I did that... see if I can control it myself... any suggestions of stuff I can take!!

PS RUBY wonderful news about your boy!

YEAH on our 2nd boy. Now I'm even more excited for my u/s :D

Our thread misstresses are doing such a good job with the updating. I am psycho planner, organizer and was wondering if we could keep a count going and maybe color code the mommies by boy, girl & surprises? If it's too much to do, let me know and I can help :D

Okay..I’ve finally caught up.

Welcome Izzy

Boobs – I don’t have much pain unless I lie on them the wrong way or I get elbow in the tit like DH did on Sunday. I was a 36C and am now a 38D. I still have some room to grow.

Diaper bag – I think the backpack is a good idea. DH doesn’t really care as long as it doesn’t scream “baby on board”. I’m the same way. I do not want a diaper bag that screams baby. I want something that we can still use after the diaper stage assuming the bag survives.

Maternity clothes – I hit Old Navy too. Unfortunately the one near my parents does not carry maternity clothes so I had to wait and stop at the one in Dover about a hour north of them. I got a shirt, a tank and a hooded zip up sweater. I had gone to Old Navy before I left for the holiday and got the same shirt in a L, when I tried it only I realized I wouldn’t make it full term with that shirt so I went back and also got it in a XL. I’m wearing the large today. Overall, I haven’t had to buy much. I got a lot of clothes in my size, that I like, from my cousin. I may get some more summer stuff when it gets warmer. I have a couple pair of capris. I’m not much or a shorts person, but I love skirts.

Paranoia – I wrote about my belly deflating incident before and this morning I called the doctors office because I’ve convinced myself that I hurt my baby when I was on my stomach and it “deflated”. The nurse assured me that it was probably just gas and that she doubts I harmed the baby. For reassurance, I have an appt tomorrow to hear the h/b.

Jbenny - Good for you for cleaning out the baby’s room. That is still on our to-do list. I picked out the color I wanted to paint the room, Newport blue by Behr, but DH has convinced me not to repaint the room. We painted it 1.5 years ago when we moved in and he does not want to paint again. I understood his point and agreed with him that the current color goes better with the stuff we have. Anyway we compromised (sorta) and are going to paint the bathroom that color.

Baby gender – Pink, I can relate. I was sure I did not want to know and now I’m not sure. MIL told DH to call her as soon as we find out. DH told her that we are not going to find out. He is finally agreeing with me and now I’m indecisive.

Lawyerwifemom – great NT results. Wow you have gained no weight. I think I’m up 10lbs. The holidays did it and my McDonalds runs I had last week.

Pink and Kaeden’s Mommy – sorry you are feeling sick again. I hope this sickness can find a permanent exit.

Connorsmommy – looks like you got some great maternity shopping. I still want to get some black pants.

Maryanne – I love chocolate covered pretzels. It’s the sugar and salt combo.

Jad – 4 L of water. Wow.. that’s almost a gallon. You might as well pull up a toilet.
Sunshine – you have filled out your pre admission papers all ready. Woohoo for the twins measuring on track.

Movement – I don’t know if what I’m feeling is gas or the baby. Congrats to the mommas feeling movements.

Virtual shower – I’m in!

Pink – the baby is low. I’m 16 weeks tomorrow and according to Your pregnancy week by week the top of my uterus is a about 1.5 inches below my belly button. It is funny how everyone rubs the top of my belly. It only sticks out because my uterus is pushing everything up and out.

Ruby – congrats on the boy!!! I want a girl to and will probably have the same experience. I hope that since I am planning to wait, that I’ll be so happy after delivery that I won’t care. Hope you are felling better soon.

Ruby Congratulation's on your little boy!

QOTD I need my hair highlighted badly! But I am too scared to do it. I started a thread already, but wanted to see what you guys thought? I know it is safer to highlight then to dye your hair. Have any of you done it while pg?

excitedbride- I got my hair highlighed two weeks ago at 14 weeks. I did decide to use Aveda so it was all natural but highlighted nonetheless and I saw the baby kicking away today!

Ruby - Hooray for your little boy!

ds You might as well pull up a toilet.
Tell me about it! It's getting a little better as I get more used to it, but the first couple of days were a bear!

excited - I think now that we're in the second trimester, you're in the clear for the highlights. Everything I've read only says to avoid them in the 1st trimester.

Didn't we have a couple more u/s appointments today? Come on, folks, don't hold out on us. ;)

Shouldaeloped Really? That makes me much more relieved. That is the salon I called today, they said they use Aveda products but that they are only 95% natural, and they do contain amnonia. Plus they are really expensive. Compared to my usual hairdresser. But he has been so dang hard to get a hold of and I am getting tired of waiting.

excitedbride ~ Most things I've read say that higlights are okay but to try to stay away from all-over color. The difference is that all-over color is on your scalp while higlights aren't applied to the scalp just to the roots. I had mine done the day after I found I was pg with DS and he's just fine.

Good news Ruby finding out you're having a boy. How exciting. Yay! Now you get to prepare mentally for this arrival. The things that go through a pregnant woman's mind... (well mine anyway).

About coloring... My doctor said no problem, go ahead. I've already done my roots twice (I do them about once per month to cover gray). I'm not worried about it. I do it at home with professional products. I turn on the bathroom fan.

I'll let you all know how my baby comes out. ;)

ruby congrats on your boy!! That's exciting! :D

I don't have a lot of time to post...I just wanted to say I'm still here. MS has kind of hit me this trimester. I haven't thrown up yet, but I've ended up over the toilet on several occasions. *sigh* Here's hoping we all feel good as new soon!!

I got my hairlighted at 12 weeks & that was fine with my dr.

JAD: QUOTE: Didn't we have a couple more u/s appointments today? Come on, folks, don't hold out on us.

I had an appt this morning for AFP - The only other appt I know of was Ruby getting her u/s - I think that was all for today.

Ultrasounds: I was originally scheduled for an u/s on 1/9 but I had to have it bumped up because of possible scares from my screening test. I therefore had an u/s today along with an amnio. The amnio was not fun(I cried the whole time) but I'm glad it's all done and over with. The baby was so active that it was hard to tell but it looks like it's a BOY!

Congratulations, boy mommies!!

Hair: I followed What to Expect When You're Expecting, which said it was okay. I've been having my roots done every 6 weeks, twice so far since I'm PG.

Names I've been looking here and there online, and nothing has really stood out to me. I have absolutely NO clue. I'll be that weirdo whose baby is home from the hospital for a month without getting a name!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR...here's hoping 2006 is the best year yet!

Congrats to everyone who's had their ultrasound (I see the boy boom going on) and good luck to everyone who is coming up soon.

Well, DH and I had a great Christmas and a fun NYE. We got tons of gifts this year and Baby B did pretty well too.

Lucky for us we FINALLY got a digital camera, thanks to both sets of parents. It has proven quite useful already and I have a couple of pictures to share (*GULP*)

The best gift though was the Dr. Seuss book that DH bought for our child (with 12 stories in one book) and put a very special and meaningful inscription inside...I'm going to start reading to the baby shortly...silly, maybe, but something I'm looking forward to doing.

NYE ~ We had a few friends to our house...nothing special, but it was fun to just sit, relax, eat and play cards with our friends. I actually managed to stay up until 1:30am...which hasn't happened since getting PG.

Virtual Baby Shower ~ I would like to participate too, sounds like fun to me and why not. Would be neat to see what everyone gets from everyone else.

Movement ~ I have to say that I don't *think* I've felt the baby move yet. Having said that, I kind of though yesterday while driving in the car I felt a few taps...that was it though and haven't felt it again. I hope it's going to happen soon though, I feel as though I'm missing out (or paranoia tells me that something is wrong.)

Big U/S ~ We have our ultrasound scheduled for January 11th at 10:15am and we are still debating on finding out the sex. I told DH that if it was obvious on the screen, then we could find out, but if the tech had to search for it, we wouldn't find out...although I am kind of wavering, just because...

I am 99% positive that we are having a GIRL (threadmistress ~ Can you please update my gender prediction to GIRL) but everyone keeps telling me that I am probably wrong. And the needle/thread trick points to a girl too.

M/S ~ I have been taking my magic pills and the nausea and vomitting have disappeared. I missed one day and felt queasy all day, so I'm going to keep taking them for now. I enjoy being able to eat again.

Mat Clothes ~ I must have gotten 6 shirts and two pairs of pants for Christmas...all brand new. It's wonderful to have new stuff that's comfortable and fits, but I definitely can't hide the belly now. I can't wait until someone at the office questions me...I think they are too scared to date but it can't be long now.

Baby Names ~ DH and I have agreed on a Boy's name and everyone (except my mom) seems to like it. But we are NOWHERE close to a girls name, which is typical and I'm sure we are having a girl. I think it's going to be one of those "last minute once we see her we will know" decision. But I keep making suggestions and keep getting shot down. There are only two possibilities, but neither are my favourite...ah well, so much for planning.

Updates and pics on the next post...

Baby Bedding

I finally took the plunge and bought the baby bedding I have been coveting for about 8 weeks now...it should arrive in about a week and I'm so excited. I didn't tell DH as I thought it would be a good suprise. I can hardly wait for it to get here. It was a bit of a splurge, but I thought I could at least buy my baby some new bedding (we are getting alot of second hand furniture.)

What do you think? I thought it would work nicely for a Girl or a Boy. We will likely paint the walls the nice sage green colour (or yellow) so it's pretty neutral (at least I think so.)

Anyone else started buying nursery stuff or have it ready to share?

And that's about it for me. Sorry about all the pictures, but I finally had some stuff to share.

Kaeden's Mom and Baby Lust ~ Thanks for the compliments on the bedding. I haven't seen it in person and being that I'm from Canada, it's been very tough getting my hands on it.

Toys R Us will not ship many items to Canada and many of the outlets that sell this won't ship here either. So I found it on Ebay about two months ago and watched it, debated, waited and someone scooped it up before I could make a decision. So I've been checking Ebay daily and it finally came back up yesterday.

Since originally finding this set, I've literally looked at Hundred of different sets and never liked one as much as this. So when I saw it back on Ebay, I bought it right away (didn't even ask DH...oops!) I'm sure he will love it, but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but hope it will be worth it.

Hearing your comments makes me feel much better about it. THANKS!

The next big purchase I'm currently watching Ebay for...a Diaper Bag. Trying to decide if it's worth spending a bit more money for a good one, or should I just buy a cheap one and save some money...oh the decisions.

Thanks for being so kind about the belly pics too...took alot to post it, but hey, it's only going to get bigger from here (and I'm sorry to say, it's still hard watching the belly grow when I've been trying, for years, to get it to go the other way. Love being pregnant, but that's one thing that's harder to get used to.)

And Kaeden's Mommy ~ the Diclectin is still working like a charm. I'm enjoying food again and have only had one day where I've felt crappy. Hope things are getting better for you, especially now that the stress of the holidays are over. too bad you can't get the diclectin there (the only thing I bet that we can get here, but you can't get...irony at it's best!)

Oh wow, look at all these boys!! Congratulations everyone! And here I am with my boy vibes too....but we'll have to wait until June to know for sure since we're definitely going for the surprise.

Maternity Clothes-I have ordered a couple pairs of pants, 4 shirts and 1 denim skirt from Gap, OldNavy & Motherhood which my SIL is bringing back with her from the US at the end of January. Mostly I got long sleeved shirts because I'll need them as we're heading into autumn (fall) and winter and around March the weather cools down enough for those kinds of clothes in Sydney. I'm hoping to pick up a few short sleeved t-shirts in the January summer sales to complement the 3 cotton blouses my Mum has made for me and with the aid of my Belly Belt most of my summer shorts & skirts will fit for awhile. Anyone else got a Belly Belt?? I picked mine up in the op-shop for $6 which I thought was a bargain since they retail for $30.

http://www.byebye.co.nz/images/belly_belt.JPG

Baby Movement-No consistent feelings on a regular basis but definitely felt a few little thumps and bumps and last night when I was laying down reading in bed my stomach (the area below my belly button) felt like it was "gurgling" (y'know how it does when you're hungry?) only I knew this wasn't gas and it wasn't my stomach from being hungry. It was kinda like this constant churning....so I'm 99% sure that was the baby dancing up a storm! :D

Paranoia-I am starting to totally freak out about our u/s coming up. I heard of someone who's 20w u/s showed up major chromosonal problems this week and since I had to take anti-malarial medication for a trip to Vanuatu we did between 12w & 14w I'm a little concerned that they may have done something to the baby....but I really have no sensible reason to believe that since the meds are safe to take in the 2nd trimester and my Dr didn't seem to think it was a risk which was why we went ahead with the travel plans. Anyway, once the u/s passes (uneventfully I hope!) most of that paranoia will go I think and I'll be able to relax and enjoy myself.

Well, I think I'll leave my posting and ramblings here. Hope you are all keeping well and that all m/s for all those still suffering from it will GO AWAY soon!

Ciao.

congratulations on all the boys!!!!

I have to say that I am feeling girl here but have zero intuition so I am probably wrong. only 27 days until we find out! and since we are finding out, we are waiting to really talk seriously about names and nursery stuff. we have touched on it but i can already tell the name thing is going to be difficult for us. I would rather argue over one sex than both.

so everyone keeps talking about names they have decided on but no one is sharing them? are we all keeping them a secret? i swear I won't steal anyones name!

I am wearing tights and a pre-pregnancy skirt today. big mistake. it's about 4 inches shorter because I had to hike it up over the belly and the tights are crushing me. definitely won't make this mistake again.

mrs brownie- nice belly shots!

just wanted to say good morning! hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

Names:

For a boy it will definately be Hayden, thinking of the middle name Thomas. Hayden is a family name. It's on the top 100 names which really bums me out for some reason but I love it enough to get over it.

For a girl we are having a much tougher time, the ones we agree on off the top of my head are Allison, Abigail, Annabelle, DH loves Evelyn Marie and I am undecided, I love Adeline and Adelaide (Addy) and he really doesn't like it but loves the nickname for it. For a middle name we like Lane so far.

Thanks for all the compliments on the belly...I must say they do make me feel good, especially since I've been a little self conscious lately about it.

Names ~ Since you asked, I will share what we have so far.

Originally, for a Boy, DH and I decided we would name a son Hayden (nice name Pink) but my best friend had a son last January and named him Aiden. Normally not a problem, but since my DH is Aaron, her name in Erin and her DH is Darrin...I figured naming our sons Aiden and Hayden wouldn't be wise...and which one doesn't go (mine!) So we scraped the name we loved...

We have finally decided if this baby is a boy we will *probably* name him Ethan Michael. And everyone loves it except for my mother, who thinks of Ethan Hawke everytime.

As for a girl, we aren't even close on that one. We know the middle name will be Christine (it's been given to the oldest girl since my grandmother was born.) And I love the first name Cassidy or Kassidy but DH isn't too keen on it.

We also like (not love though) Elizabeth, Emma and Lauren...but still trying to choose something.

Our big problem is that our last name is one syllable, which means we have to pick a two syllable or more first name, especially for possible nicknames. What a pain!

Would love to hear what everyone else has chosen too. And is anyone having troubles with DH shooting down every name but not giving any suggestions? I find I'm onto names I don't even like, just to see if I can find something he likes.

Names - Boy will most likely be Nicolas Alexander unless we find something else we really like.
I’m constantly changing my mind on girl names. Right now I like Talia (Talya). We also like Sydney and Gabriele. There are other names that I like that DH has vetoed. For middle names I like Isabel(a), Morgan and Nicole.

For a girl, what about Addison - close to those you've mentioned, but a little different. I'd use it but I have a Madison and an Adelyn in the family already. :(

names:
boy names we both like ... Joshua, Logan- DH wants "Peter" for a middle name :rolleyes: I said it is ok as long as I do not have to call him that.
girls: Caroline, Carleigh, Savannah, Anelise, Elise, Katelynn, Bethany. We both really love the name "Hope" might use it as a middle name if we can not find anything to go with it.

Love the names: Rachel, Emily, Lauren but those are my neices names.

Hayden is a very nice name - I know a Hayden that is a girl (she is about 5 or 6) - Addision "Addi" is a cute girl name I thought of that as a boy name when ds was born but that was 10 yrs ago.

I love Hayden for a girl too but DH vetoed it.

Kaeden-Addison was on my list too. I love it. I totally forgot about it.

Carseats/Strollers/Cribs, oh my!!!!-Anyone else started to get obesessed with finding the right EVERYTHING? I am stuck on strollers right now. I've got people bumping up threads for me, I'm asking questions left and right, I'm crazed right now ;) !

Sunshine-I love the name Peter, but I don't know if I could name my kid that either, only because kids are cruel and I can only imagine the nicknames...I still like it tho.

We have two front runners for names but we have not spent ALOT of time discussing it---figured that we will have 50% less of a debate if we wait until we KNOW the sex :O)

For a girl---Melody Arenel K.

for a boy---Robert Arenal K.

I am not thrilled with Robert but he really wants it in honor of his grandfather.

Melody would in honor of the fact that we met travelling to a concert--and arenel is the name of the volcano were we spent our honeymoon and he/she might have been concieved (if it wasn't our wedding night).

Dr. called me to let me know my glucose test went very well, so no problems. And other issues such as Down syndrome, nueral tube defects... ect are fine... baby B is doing really well... (Funny thing is Dh and I were not going to get the other tests done like Down Syndrome ect... but I guess I must have been signing my life away last week and did not realize it)....NOTE TO SELF.. must pay better attention.:rolleyes:

Names...
I don't mind sharing here. With Connor, we let people know the sex, but we kept the name choices - boy AND girl - a secret until Connor's birth. Well, I did share on WC, but that's because I didn't know anyone IRL on there. :)

We're not keeping the name a secret from anyone this time - we already blabbed the choices a long time ago... :)

Boy - Dawson Kyle
Girl - Aubrey Jada

The boy name just sort of came to us when Connor was about a year old. No particular reason for the names other than we like the way they sound together including our last name. The initials also work well...and it doesn't get all rhyme-y with Connor Justin. To be honest, my first top choice for Connor was Carson, and I still love that name to death, but Wade totally vee-toed it and even if he agreed to it now, I wouldn't use it - Connor and Carson are too 'similar' for me.

The girl name is the one we came up with before we knew Connor's sex. We still love it.... but MIGHT consider changing her middle name to Deborah in honour of Wade's step-mom (who was more like an older sibling to us, at just 7 years older than Wade and 14 years older than myself) who passed away suddenly back in May.

**********

Can't remember who mentioned Ethan -- that was *my* favourite boy name back when I was in high shool in the very early 90s and had decided back then that if I ever had a son, he would be Ethan. But that was back when the *only* Ethan anyone had ever heard of was Ethan Hawke. And once I was pg with Connor, I felt it was just tooo popular for my tastes (and then Connor made the top 10 list!)

*********

regarding baby strollers.... gahhh! I'm glad I don't have to relive that experience! I was soooo nervous about finding the right stroller/travel system... At the time, it felt like our most important purchase and that if we didn't get the right one, we'd fail the new parent test or something! LOL! :)

We ended up with a certain evenflo model that we liked but didn't love. And, we exchanged at Sears more than a year later (there were quirks with that stroller that was mass-produced for Sears Canada that winter so they allowed exchanges on that model, so we were able to "trade up"). We exchanged it for a "much better" Safety 1st one, which we loved everything about except that it's a pain to steer left and right, a very important feature!

This time we're just going to deal with that Safety 1st one until Baby2 can sit up well and can use our lighter weight stroller. A nice thing is, though, the baby seat in the Safety 1st travel system has never been used! :)

We're not going to bother with a double stroller - DS hardly ever uses a stroller now (last time was probably in summer), so I don't see the point as he'll be over 3 anyway when baby is born. He prefers being free anyway.

ds2003

Stroller. – we do not want a travel system. We are thinking about getting a carseat frame for the infant seat…like the Snap n Go or SnugRider Infant Carseat frame by Graco. For regular strollers I’m leaning towards the Maclaren Triumph or Quest, OR the Combi Savvy Soho. The stroller definitely has to have an umbrella fold and can not be too bulky. DH and I plan to sling a lot so our child won’t spend much time in a stroller.

Basic necessities – The tough word in this phase is “necessities”. What do I need vs. what do I want.
For me the basics are:
Diapers
bouncer seat
pack n play
baby medicine
thermometer
mucus bulb
clothes (mainly onesies and tshirts)
car seat
sling
breast pump
bottles
infant tub
monitor
mobile

I had my appt today to checkup on the pop I felt last week. Everything appears okay. I heard the heartbeat. My next regularly scheduled appt is Jan 18 along with the Big U/S.

Ryan – congrats on the test results.

adding to the necessities list --

wipes (unless you're going the water/washcloth method; in that case, a whole pile of baby washcloths or flannel wipes...)

Those thin flannel receiving blankets that you get in packs of 4 or 6. They have a bunch of purposes outside of wrapping the baby up:
- use as a burp cloth
- cover the change table padding (get poop on that, and it's a quick change rather than having to remove the change pad's own cover)
- a nice barrier between baby and floor or baby and public restroom change stations, etc.
- easy to roll or crumple up and wedge in places to keep baby straight in their car seat or swing or whatever.

baby wash/shampoo... our favourite was Aveeno. We tried J&J and Playtex and Gerber when Connor was young, but found that when he was really young, those ones were very harsh on his skin, so we won't bother with anything else but Aveeno or that Goats milk one with Baby2

baby nail clippers.... smaller than regular nail clippers... you may read in a lot of places to FILE your newborn's nails...but I found DS's nails way too soft and flexible to file. Clipping was a much easier method to tame those little razor blades!!

...and I know it's personal preference on a lot of things, but I found that the baby bathtub was completely useless for us - we had one and never used it even once. We went from washing our 5 lb 35-weeker in a large metal salad bowl (I kid you not!) for his first two weeks while he stayed in the NICU, to the kitchen sink at home for the next couple of months... Then we transitioned to the big bathtub with me sitting in there with him for a while...and eventually he made it to the bath ring in the tub, which lasted maybe two times before he felt he needed to have his freedom in the tub! :)

That being said, I know of a lot of people who loved their baby bathtubs and used them all the time!

**********

I think I still have a list on my computer at home with "necessities" that I had put together before Connor was born. I'll dig it up tonight if I can remember... I'm sure I'll find that there were things on there that I absolutely HAD to have but ended up not really needing

Not sure if any has bought Babybargains, but I highly recommend that book! I would have been so lost without that book with my DS!

They recommened this bathtub, and in my opinion it is the best one out there! We used it for quite awhile, first up on the kitchen sink, then when he got older and splashed alot more we moved it to the bathtub.

Hello All :D

Baby Names: Still not deciding until we know the sex. Did I mention we'll know the sex in 5 days :D MrsBrownie Brian killed me with picking Nikolas' name. I told him the middle name would be Peter and gave him the baby book with a marker to pick a first name. He went through every name and didn't pick one. So finally I just picked. He liked Nikolas, but not with a middle name - at all. I think the same thing will happen again.

Strollers: With Niko we got an Evenflo travel system. Brian actually picked it out so I didn't argue with him. We will have to get a double stroller though. Although Niko does want to be free to wander, I can't let him, he still doesn't come back to us yet when we call him. I also want some place for him to lay down in case he gets tired.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I met my new dr today and she's really nice. She actually sat with me for about 20 minutes answering questions and easing my mind. I'll start my biophysical profiles at 32 weeks so I'll get to see the baby every week. I asked about braxton hicks this early cause I've been having cramping, and she said it is possible, but thinks it's more due to lack of liquids and the pulling on my abdomen from lifting Niko. So I did get scolded for not drinking enough. Then she gave me a surprise, I'm being induced at 38 weeks, my new induction date is May 19th. She said based on the clotting disorder and my age she won't let me go past 38 weeks.
Again with the age thing... I'm only 37 :rolleyes:
I am glad about knowing the induction date (if I don't go earlier) so I can plan on Niko's care and just having everything ready.
Just popping by to say congratulations to simplicity and jesvet on your boys!!!
Ryan - You totally keep confusing me with the Baby B thing. Every time I read it, I think "Oh, she's having twins, too!" And then I realize it must just be your last name. D'oh!
NikosMommy - You're very funny with the countdown. Good for my daily giggle. ;) And with a May 19th induction, I'm hoping you give me a run for my money on the first "June" baby. I'm praying for nothing earlier than May 23rd, but who knows what the twins have in mind.
Wow! Big Boy Boom Here! I guess I'll have to wait another 5 months to find out if I am one of them.
Names: I love the names you girls have picked out so far! I have two little cousins that were in my wedding named Bryce and Ethan and they just have the best little personalities. They are so outgoing.
It's funny that we all had names that we were always going to name our child that got rejected for one reason or another.
I always had the name picked out Alyssa Nicole for a girl and then found out that DH's brother has a daughter named Alyssa. I was so mad and wanted to keep the name anyway, but he wouldn't allow it. He always had the name Hannah picked out and I rejected it because it sounded too much like Anna. I have an aunt Anna that I despise and she would ignore the H at the beginning and think that it was a name sake or something.
I also love the name Brayden but one of my close friends stole the name for her little boy and then DH's brother had a baby boy and named him Brayden as well. Oh well.
Brownie: the bedding is adorable and I agree that it is very neutral.
mrs.brownie Adorable bedding!
Anyone still having acne problems? I just switched to Bare Minerals makeup and I can't say enough about how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the stuff. My skin began to clear almost instantly and looks even better than pre-preg. It's amazing. I think when I was breaking out, I was just causing more breakouts by trying to cover them up with more and more liquid makeup. I'll never go back to it.
acne ~ No acne for me. I've been lucky to not have a lot of skin issues ever and it's better when I'm pg. Hope yours gets better soon jbenny.
Names ~ For a girl we're thinking Mackenzie Morgan but I also really like Jada Morgan. For a boy we have absolutely no idea. I tend to go for boy names that end with "N". My favorite right now is Holden. Everyone has great names picked out!
Only 20 days until the u/s! I'm getting pretty excited, but trying to keep myself from thinking about it too much since I can be impatient. The 2nd trimester was being good to me, but the Zofran and Phenergan are joining my food in the toilet once again. I'm still having the headaches as well. As long as this baby is healthy I'll deal with it just fine.
Gotta run - DS is trying to type on the laptop. :D
Wow-I can't believe all the boys! Congrats!! I hope that means I'll find out I'm having a boy when I have my u/s. Of course, I'll be happy either way, but I'm really hoping for a boy. :)
Names
If it's a boy we've chosed Reuben David but we'll call him Ben. (Reuben after FIL, but I'm not too fond of it, that's why we'll use the nickname "Ben".)
If it's a girl we've decided on Julia Edythe. Edythe after my father's mother-he was very close to her and she passed away of cancer about ten years ago now so I know it would mean a lot to him.
Acne - goodness yes. My skin is totally AWFUL. I’ve never broken out this badly in my entire life. Must be all these baby hormones. I tried going to a dermatologist, who for a $30 co-pay and a 45 minute wait, got to tell me there’s absolutely nothing he can do for me while I’m pregnant. I DETEST this dermatologist.
So, what is Bare Minerals? Is it a wash? A concealer?
Thanks everyone for sharing your nessecity lists. I appreciate it.
As for acne and pregnancy skin problems, they are normal with pregnancy but there is always something that you can do to help . I can't believe that you dermatologist said that. I am not a doctor but I am a licensed skin care therapist and I would suggest that you try to get a facial. The esthetician will analyze you skin and customize the treatment according to what you need. There are several antibacterial treatments that can help...what an idiot that doc is....
I have been having the oppposit effect. My skin is getting drier and more dehydratedby the moment. AARRGH! And I have been drinking TONS of water!
The one issue that there isn't a cure for is cholasma...which is also known as the pregnancy mask. The hormones cause a darkening of the skin, which usually goes away after birth. There is stuff that you can do, to help with teh discoloration but unfortunately there still isn't a cure to stop it from happening.
(Sorry that I just rambled....:rolleyes: )
And...I gotta ask what is a mucus plug? (I don't like the sound of that!)
Tomorrow, we have the genetic conseling meeting. I am not sure what that means but we have to go :o
my friend sent me this today in an email....
the four advantages of breast milk"
An unprepared student sat in his life science classroom staring at a question on the final exam paper. The question directed: "Give four advantages of breast milk."
What to write? He sighed, and began to scribble whatever came into his head, hoping for the best:
1. No need to boil.
2. Cats can't steal it.
3. Available whenever necessary.
Um. So far so good - maybe. But the exam demanded a four-part answer. Again, what to write?
Once more he sighed. He frowned. He scowled. Then sighed again. But suddenly, he brightened. He grabbed his pen, and triumphantly he scribbled his definitive answer:
4. Available in attractive containers!
And...I gotta ask what is a mucus plug? (I don't like the sound of that!)
If you'll pardon my non-medical background...
It's a "rubbery" (for lack of a better term) plug that is plugging the passage of your cervix so that foreign bacteria can't get into your uterus and harm your growing baby.
It stays in place until weeks, days, or just hours before going into labour. Some women "loose" their plug weeks in advance, yet don't go into labour for a very long time.
It can come out in small chunks or larger chunks... some women have pinkish or even bloody (also called the bloody show) 'plugs', but some plugs happen to be just plain white, or yellowish white. That was the case with me - my plug started coming out little bit by little bit at about 33 weeks. At the time, I just thought it was my regular pg discharge that I was getting a LOT of in my underwear, except that it appeared to be thicker, more like rubber. I lost the rest at about 35 weeks, in the day right before I had Connor... and like I said, at the time, i didn't know it was my plug - I was expecting it to be a little bloody at the very least.
Sorry for the graphic description...there's just no easy way to describe a mucus plug!
good morning everyone!
so has anyone heard the old wives tale that says the rougher you look during pregnancy (i.e. acne like I am also having) it means you are having a girl because she is stealing the moms beauty? I don't know if that's accurate or not but every one of my friends that had bad skin had girls. . . I guess we'll just have to see.
regarding names. . we have NO idea. DH and I have talked about it on and off since last October when we first got pregnant and I have to admit, I am the difficult one. I fall in love with a name and then change my mind 2 weeks later. so for boys we have Griffin and Brady, neither of which I really like. for girls we have nothing. nada. zippo. I guess we'll break out the baby name book when we find out the sex. our biggest challenge is that we both have family names we have to carry on for middle names and the girls name from my side of the family is very masculine. which really cancels out most androgynous names which are my favorite. and we both want names that you can shorten. so it's going to be a long conversation and a difficult choice.
anyway, I feel like my belly popped last night. it was much harder this morning and what felt like much higher. pretty cool. maybe I'll get around to belly shots soon.
hope everyone has a great day!
Shouldaeloped: I'm so glad to read that you feel like your belly has "popped" because I feel the same way this week. When I roll over on my back in the morning, I can't believe how much the belly sticks up in the air. Plus, it is clearly visible in clothes now. I am wearing slim-flitting shirts, but the noticable bump is a new development.
Acne/Bare Minerals: I have three little pimples on my chin, but nothing to out of control. I too am using Bare Minerals--the makeup artist I used for my wedding introduced me to this line. It is the best makeup. It feels and looks so light and natural.
Names: We have a very Irish last name and the names that we like (at this point) play up our Irish heritage. The frontrunners right now: Declan James and Nora Kathleen. Don't know if these will be the final choices though. (Its fun to share these names here since we aren't discussing them with friends and family.)
Oops. Gotta run to a meeting!
ds2003 We have the Combi Savvy Soho and I love it! We got the whole travel system thing because it seemed like a good idea but in reality the stroller was just too bulky. We only used it a few times once DD grew out of her infant seat before purchasing the Combi. If I had it to do over again I would definitely get the Snap and Go or similar. We've been using the Combi for ~2 years and it is still in great shape and we've schlepped it everywhere, including a trip to Europe and many trips to Florida.
popping belly Got one of those! I'm officially in full maternity, including shirts. The shirts are still a bit big, but I'm much more comfortable.
names: not much progress here. We have a boy's name from when I was pregnant with DD that we still like but feel it is too common now so I don't know if we will use it. We're totally stumped for a girl's name. We've put talks on hold until we find out the sex so we only have to do half as much work.
Back from my meeting....
strollers:It is nice to hear good things about the Combi Soho, Orange. We drive a Mini is we are in the market for a compact stroller and this one fits the bill. I'm not crazy about the color choices for the 2005 models though. We'd also like to pick up a Quinny Zapp for when the baby is a bit older. It isn't available in the US but we will order online or have my SIL bring it back from Canada (where she lives).
http://www.quinny.nl/images/65600340.jpg
One more thing...I definitely felt the baby last night. No question about it. I was sitting on the couch with my knees bent for a bit and when I straightened them out I felt two very distinct "bubbles." So cool!
amurphy -- OMG...I've seen that orange Quinny Zapp in a store in the mall downtown here a couple of months ago -- I thought it was great!! But isn't that funny - usually it's us Canadians who have to have people in the USA send stuff to US! :)
Bare Minerals -- where have I been? I've never heard of this stuff EVER until a week ago, and now I'm finding references to it everywhere - here in CC, on LJ, in news articles.... infomercials... What's the low-down on this stuff? I personally use Clinique, which I'm happy with... But since I keep hearing about Bare Minerals, can someone tell me more!?
Acne -- had it with Connor and had it with this one (I've finally cleared up!), but of course we don't know if this one is a boy or girl yet. Hmmm... I just checked back with my old WC journal that I'd saved on my computer... seems that with Connor, my acne cleared up around 19 weeks, not 16 like I mentioned here a while back. But this time around, my acne DID clear up around 15.5 and 16 weeks. Here's to hoping it stays away!
I seem to remember that my April/May/June '03 group also had a big run of boys for the April/May babies - like as in the first 10 u/s's all showed boys... and then it was more like 50/50 for the June babies... but when all was said and done and all the surprises were accounted for, there seemed to be about 50% of each!! :)
belly ~ I'm definitely showing and popping out, but am still in all my regular clothes. I can probably make it a little longer - maybe a month - before transitioning to maternity clothes. I was already in maternity clothes by this point with DS, but I'm carrying high this time.
Kaeden's Mommy, are you tall? Because your due date is only one day after mine and I can't even imagine fitting into regular clothes. I have one pair of jeans that is 2 sizes up from my regular size that I can wear and my shirts go on, but they're tight. I'm only 5'2" (if I stretch) so I know that I do pop out earlier than a taller person.
Orange ~ I'm 5'8" and all my clothes are still fitting me. Some fitted shirts are a little tight around my BBs.
Kaeden's Mommy ~ I can't believe you are still in regular clothes. I have been out of my pants for about a month now and just made the transition (last week) to maternity tops.
Movement ~ I am still not feeling any movement from Baby...it's got me a little worried, as so many people have reported regular movement. Luckily I have an U/S next Wednesday, so will be able to see for sure that everything is alright with baby.
I've been feeling a little BLAH lately...pretty restless and not sleeping great at night. I've been having very vivid dreams (and lot's of sex dreams too) lately and they keep me tossing and turning at night. I also find I've still be doing alot of stomach sleeping, although it is modified so I'm sleeping more on my side than directly on my stomach, but still can't make myself stop.
I can hardly wait to reach the 20 week mark (one week and 1 day for me) I also stepped on the scale this morning and still haven't gained any weight...sitting at exactly the same weight as I started. So I'm pretty proud of that. I figure if I can make it to 20 weeks without gaining (I was overweight to begin with) then I won't worry about gaining weight anymore.
I'm almost ready to start thinking about all things baby...start talking about classes we want to take, stuff we need to buy, decide on registering, etc. etc. etc.
Sorry for the ramble, but like I said, I'm so restless and can hardly concentrate at work. More interested in playing on the internet.
Acne: It's weird, mine is still like before. I think my acne still remembers my period cycles because it still comes in bad when I would be expecting af and then taper off in a week.
Baby bump: I feel like my stomach doubled in size on Monday night. I usually turn on my stomach in the morning after DH gets ready for work. I did it Tuesday morning and it was like "Oops! Can't do that anymore."I have just a few outfits left that I can wear. I am carrying really low so it is hard to stay in my old pants. I'm sure by next week I'll be down to one last pair that were my fat jeans.
What are others doing for excercise? I watched The Biggest Loser last night and now I am starting to feel like a real bum. I keep telling myself that I am going to start walking at lunch but I live in the Seattle area so it is always raining in the winter. My dad suggested that I could start walking the warehouse or the building if I don't want to go outside. Just wondering what finally motivates you to get up and work out.
Shoulda – old wives tale: I don’t know any friends who had acne problems while pg. One friend got extremely dark and had a boy. Another told me that she got dark and ugly with her daughter. I didn’t have an acne problem growing up and I’m assuming that is why I’m not having a problem with acne now.
I don’t know much about Bare Minerals. I’ve heard the name. I only wear makeup on special occasions.
Orange – glad to see a good review for the Savvy Soho. We just bought one for our godson so I’ll hope to get his parents review soon. I’m sure it will come done to another test drive at BRU between the Combi Savvy Soho and Maclaren Triumph (possibly Quest as well)
Amurphy – I love the Carolina Sky color for the 2005 Combi Savvy Soho. I’m looking forward to the 2006 colors. I would really like it in orange. I’m still waiting on definite baby movement.
Pink – hope you are feeling better soon.
Exercise – right now I need some motivation. According to the scale at the dr yesterday I’ve gained 8lbs in 3 weeks. I had just eating lunch so I can hopefully shave of a pound or so. This morning when I stepped on the scale I was almost 2.5lbs lighter than yesterday morning. Now that I’m back home, I’m eating better than I was over the holidays. I hope to not gain any weight by my next appt in 2 weeks. I think I can do it. I really need to start walking again, but it’s so cold and walking on a treadmill is boring. I could walk in the tunnel.
Gas pain – Lately I’ve been having painful gas bubbles. I’ve been massaging my belly in an effort to get them moving.
Maternity shirts – I haven’t completely converted. I wore one yesterday, but today I’m back in regular shirt. I have to were a long tank underneath because it rides up my belly as most of my pre-pg shirts do. They just are not long enough. I’m really trying to hold off on the mat shirts until I have a good size belly. Until then they just look like tents on me.
I need to check the first page Does anyone have a big U/S today? Where’s our first girl?
Hello All :D
Jad Here's your daily giggle: 4 more days :D
ds Not sure if anyone is going today but just in case you didn't know, my big u/s is in 4 days :D I know I'm silly :p I'm hoping to be one of the first girls on the thread though.
Exercise: Lil Mrs You are so funny :D Exercise? What is that? My exercise right now consists of playing I'm gonna get you with Niko. After Niko goes to bed, my next exercise is picking up all the toys he's dumped out during the day. I'm a total couch potato. I'm a slacker. I always say I'm going to work out, but never do :/
I know you're all sick of hearing about my countdown to my u/s. I'm just so excited and no one IRL really understands this excitement. I get excited for all of yours too. So I'm probably going to make you sick for 4 more days and then it's over... until... my induction. That's a whole other ball game.
I'm already freaking about it. With Niko I didn't know what to expect except for what I saw on tv and the one time I was in the room w/my niece. Now I've been through it and it's scaring me a little. I'm not trying to scare any of you new mommies, but Niko's birth was far from perfect so I guess that's what's going through my mind. What if that happens again? I think that's what's freaking me out.
Ok, enough of that. On a different note, have you picked out your CC buddy to let us know when you've had the baby? I already have mine, but I don't know her name over here. She was VaBeachBride on WC. I called her and she posted there when Niko was born.
Also, there is the cutest website: www.expectnet.com, where you can register and have your friends and family guess about the babies birth. With us we knew the date & sex but it was fun to watch people guess the rest. After the baby is born, you plug in the info and then it tells you who the winner is. It's a cool page.
Mrs Brownie: (and lot's of sex dreams too) hummm this had me laughing ... are you talking sexual/kinky dreams or as in sex(male/female)?
lil_mrs:I watched the biggest loser last night also - Wow those people are so inspirational but I know they worked their butts off to lose so much so quick. They looked great!
What are others doing for excercise? dh & I have decided that we are going to start walking or going back to the gym several times a week. My exercise routine has been non-existant since getting the BFP. :(
have you picked out your CC buddy to let us know when you've had the baby? I have several CC/WC friends that I have met in person over the years so I will probably get one of them to post the details for me.
Hello everyone! I knew I hadn't been online in almost a week, but when I had to go back to page 44 to catch up, it really hit home!!
A quick run-down:
virtual shower count me in. Sounds like fun.
pierced ears if it's a girl Amazingly, this is something I hadn't thought about yet, and I'm one who obsesses over everthing. Now I have something new to think about.
movement None yet, but I'm so excited for this "milestone." How can you tell if it's gas vs. actual baby action?
Congrats to ruby, jesvet and simplicity on your sons!
paranoia I get a little anxious before each appointment and start worrying about getting bad news.
baby gear Count me among the obsessed. I bought Baby Bargains last week and am studying it page by page like my life depended on it! I'm still torn on the stroller issue. I'm not sure if I want to get a nice stroller that accepts car seats (i.e. Peg Perego Pliko P3) or go with a Snap n' Go, Snug Ride and then a stroller like the Soho mentioned earlier. Experienced moms feel free to weigh in....
exercise I walk to work Monday - Friday 20 minutes each way, so 40 minutes total per day. I also do yoga approximately once a week. Not sure how long the motivation will last!
I had a Dr. appointment yesterday and got to hear the baby's heartbeat for the 1st time. So amazing! I have to admit I was reduced to tears. It was 132 BPM -- any idea what that means it terms of gender. Anyone know -- Is there a correlation between heart rate and sex of the baby, or is that an old wive's tale?
Also, we had quite an exciting week so far....My sister-in-law gave birth to our newest niece on Monday. Her name is Julianna and she is ADORABLE! Mom and baby are both doing great.
See all of you soon. I can't afford to not check in for several days -- this thread moves way too fast for that! :)
I have to pick a CC buddy and then call her? Now that is asking a lot. My family and friends will be lucky if I call them from the hospital. I’ll let DH handle all the calls. I think the hospitals need to have a computer in the birthing center just for stuff like this.
For experienced mommas: Did your DHs stay with you the entire time in the hospital? Did they bring clothes for themselves or go home to change and shower?
Nikosmommy – the website sounds cool. I’ll check it out tonight. Just 4 more days to your u/s…lucky you. Mine is in 13 days. I just hope I can keep myself from caving and finding out.
They say it is an old wive's tale. They say a fast h/b is girl and slower is boy. I am happy in thinking that my baby's 160 bpm means I am having a girl!:D
Stroller With my son we bought the Graco metrolite which allowed the snugride carseat to snap right in. It was great while he was in the seat, but he grew out of it at 4months. I ended up getting a different stroller that weighed alot less! Definetly pay attention the the weight of the stroller! We got a Combi, I don't remember the model though.
For experienced mommas: Did your DHs stay with you the entire time in the hospital? Did they bring clothes for themselves or go home to change and shower?
Our hospital didn't allow our DH's to stay the night unless you had a private room. Which there were only about 8 of those. My Dh came early in the morning and stayed all day with me. They were pretty lax on the time he had to leave. Now they have remodled and all rooms are private. So now that he can spend the night, he most likely won't because he will be home with our DS. Figures huh? lol!
Nikosmommy You should not feel bad at all! I am beside myself with excitement about my ultrasound in 8 days as well!
Virtual Shower I keep forgetting to respond about this but I'm totally in! I don't think we'll be registering since this is baby #2 but if we decide to go that way I can set up a special one just for you guys.
exercise Does the fact that I made it a new year's resolution count? I have not managed to fit it in regularly since my DD was born. I'm still working on it though. When and if I do, I'll just workout on our elliptical trainer in the basement. It's too cold and icy here in MA to do anythig outside regularly.
CC Buddy I'm delivering at a birth center and will be home within 12 hours after the birth so I'll just post here myself. If for some reason I end up checking into the hospital I'll have DH post, but we're not planning on that.
Hello Again :D
Heartrate/sex: I too heard fast hb is girl, slower is boy. Niko was always at or under 150.
DH in hosp: They let Brian stay with me while is was in L&D. They actually had a day bed set up under the window for him. We knew we'd be there all night (I was admitted at 9pm on Sun) so we showered before we left for the hosp. The L&D room did have a shower for him and we did bring stuff but he just freshened up.
The didn't let him stay in post partum room though. I was kinda glad though, I slept every chance I got.
Orange Originally we weren't going to register either, but I decided to register for formula, diapers, wipes and stuff like that. It is a fortune for that stuff as you know. Even if someone gets me one can of formula, that will be one less can we have to buy.
THANK YOU ALL for understanding my u/s excitement :D
DH staying the night ~ I have no idea about this, but my M/W said they like to release mothers as soon as possible, as early as 4 hours after birth. So depending on when we deliver, I have the option of not having to stay the night.
Although I can stay if I feel more comfortable, they encourage women to go home to bond with their babies. I guess it also depends on the kind delivery I have.
Picking a CC Buddy ~ I really don't have too many buddies here on CC and haven't met anyone in real life. I don't think I could convince DH to come on here either...it may just have to wait until I'm back home and able to get to the computer. To be honest...not something I'm going to worry about now...I've started obsessing over Diaper Bags and Cribs and those are my priorities for worrying right now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cribs ~ Anyone given much thought to what their child's going to sleep in? I think someone asked about nursery furniture being matched or mis-matched, but I don't know if anyone has been seriously looking at cribs yet.

Here's my story!

I've known FOREVER that I wanted white nursery furniture. Not sure why, but that's what I've always envisioned. I also didn't care about getting second hand furniture, but was determined that I wanted a NEW glider. That was the most important thing to me, no second hands when it came to the glider.

So my sister brought us a change table about 6 months ago, with a crib that was going to follow. I was being proactive at the time (getting PG was just a dream at that time) and thought that if someone was going to give it away, we would take it. Well, we got the change table, but the original owner ended up giving the crib to an under priviledged teen mom (how can I be upset with that.)

So we have a white, very nice change table in the basement. Then at the beginning of December, my sister informs us that she has bought a White Crib and Change Table from a friend of hers for us. So I get excited thinking that we don't have to worry about it.

The problem is, so far she hasn't been able to give us the crib (she lives out of town and each visit has an excuse for not bringing it.) I'm wondering if she really had it or not and I don't think a mattress is included.

So DH's ex-boss sent him an e-mail that she is ready to part with her nursery furniture and will give it to us for a good price. It's a wood finish (maple) and not white, but it's a great name (Morigeau-Lepine) and that she will sell us the crib for $300 even though she paid over $900 for it (complete with the mattress.)

So, I'm torn...do I wait for my sister to come through (who gets upset everytime I ask her about, saying I still have 6 months to worry about it) knowing we don't have to pay for it or do we go and look at and possible buy the ex bosses furniture.

Plus, my mom said she would buy us the crib, but I was hoping not to have to use her for the crib (hence the second hand crib) because I want her to buy me the glider. Oh, what to do...

And why am I obsessing about this now...see, restless with too much time on my hands and no motivation to do work.

MrsBrownie

Wow...that was a long rant about cribs.

Sorry, but clearly I needed to get it out. I guess I'm worrying/obsessing about stupid things. But at least it's keeping other paranoias (sp?) at bay.

I'll try not to let it happen again!

Did your DHs stay with you the entire time in the hospital? Did they bring clothes for themselves or go home to change and shower? ~ DH did stay both nights in the hospital. He went home to shower since we had 2 cats who needed food and water. Otherwise, he was at the hospital the whole time.

Orange ~ I'm not going to register, but I thought we for those who won't register we could give a couple ideas of what we'd like to receive. We won't be registering either, but if this one is a girl we'll need some clothes. There are so many cute things we can pick out for each other - I know everyone in here has great taste!

H/B ~ It is said to be an old wives' tale. I've always heard 140 and under is a boy and 140 and over is a girl. DS was in the 150s at first and then slowed to 130s and 140s.

I mentioned I was in for the virtual shower. How does it work? Does someone picks names and then we set a $ limit and go from there?

DH will most likely stay with me. There is a pull out chair for him to sleep. I don’t plan on staying in the hospital for more than 24 hours unless I have a c-secton. My insurance allows a minimum of 48 hrs for vaginal and a minimum of 96 hrs for cesarean. With my docs approval I can leave earlier.

Mrs. Brownie – you are in a tough situation. Do you feel comfortable telling your sister about your other options? Can you go and pick the crib and changing table up yourselves instead of waiting for her? I hope it all works out.

Cribs – I’m getting the crib and changing table/dresser from my sister. She is in DE and we are in CT so we have the distance issue too.

Hey, everyone!! I've been MIA...again! But I've been reading along and wanted to tell everyone congratualtions. And...I'm adding to the boy mommies! We found out Dec. 19th that it's a boy, and his name is John Russell, which is for my grandfather (Russell) and John is what basically every male on my mom's side is named, so we carried that on.

I saw my dr. today for another ultrasound. The baby weighs 08oz. and is only in the 40%, so he's small but perfectly fine. DD was in the 80% until she was born (8lbs. 7ozs.), but I know he's fine, so no worries! I'm up 8.5lbs total and am feeling ok.

QUESTION!! Has anyone else had what seems like a late on-set of morning sickness? I feel sick and have the worst headaches. I can take Tylenol, so I will tonight, but it's all started just in the past few days. My dr. is my dad's best friend, so I feel stupid complaining and don't want him to think I'm a wimp.

I would really think about this. I was all about leaving ASAP to go home, but friends with new babies talked me into staying, and I'm SO glad I did. I don't know if you have children or if it's even the same for all women, but I hurt so bad the 2nd morning and was thankful for having stayed another night.

MrsBrownie I'm with you on not too many CC buddies, so let me know if you need one!!

That's the general idea. I'll just put names in a hat and draw if that's okay with everyone. Then I can post the list of who you buy for and we can set a $ limit. Kind of like secret Santa, but not a secret.

LindsaySD ~ Congrats on your boy! When I was pg with DS I felt decent my first trimester and got m/s around 12 weeks that lasted until after he was born. I hope that's not the case for you.

DH rooming in... I had a private room for two nights after Connor was born, but Dh didn't stay the night. It was rather lonely for me, as Connor was in the NICU and I was all by myself. Come to think of it, the room was small and didn't have anything but the single hospital bed and an ordinary chair, so I guess daddies staying the night wasn't an option anyway.

Matching furniture.... I wanted all white, matching furniture, but then the 'free' offers started coming in and because we were in a tighter financial spot back then, we took people up on them. So we ended up with the most mismatched furniture of all - medium oak crib, dark wood change table, black dresser (ours), white bookshelf (we bought early on!) and a light oak glider (borrowed from MIL). Would love to do all matching furniture for this baby, but since this will be our last child, I don't want to spend a fortune on stuff we already have. Besides, we bought Connor's (matching) bedroom suite a few months ago and will do the same for baby2 when they are two years old as well.

Heartbeat -- I heard exact opposite - that boys have faster heartbeats. Connor's was always really high (150s or more), and this baby's first heartbeat count was something like 136.... So we shall see!

Gliders - we had a borrowed one from MIL last time and I hated it...it was a handmade one that was a real beauty but there was no padding - it was all wood - so I had to buy some but couldn't find anything to fit properly. It never worked well for me - so I never really used it except to sit on while pumping.

This time around, we have a LaZBoy rocker/recliner and it's the best thing since sliced bread. I can't wait to nurse a baby while lounging in that thing. I will be able to recline it a fair amount while BFing and even snooze a little bit at the same time. The LaZBoy actually ended up being about the same price on sale as a good glider. So, anyway, food for thought for those who are thinking of getting a glider but haven't made a final decision yet.

Virtual babyshower - I'm not going to register anywhere this time, but when we do our CC one, how about those of us not doing a registry just post a list of needs/wants for baby... Also, should we do it like secret Santa? Obviously, one person coordinating the whole thing would know who gets who, but other than that, set it up so that everyone is surprised with who they get a gift from...

Congrats on your boy Lindsay.

Lindsay – you have a good point. I will have the comfort of an adjustable bed at the hospital to help ease the pain, but overall I think I’ll be more comfortable at home with my own stuff, real cable and of course the internet. I may not have time to use them, but they are there if I need them. I won’t be using the hospital nursery so I won’t get the benefit of sleeping at night. Of course I could change my mind when I get there, but 24 hours in my goal. If I have a c-section I will take advantage of the full hospital stay.

Anyone know -- Is there a correlation between heart rate and sex of the baby, or is that an old wive's tale?Mine was 148 today and I've been feeling boy vibes. It was right on both times for my best friend.

Big Ultrasound will be on Feb. 9th.
We're still undecided on finding out the sex but I am leaning toward finding out. I'm cracking!

Dr. said the baby sounds fine, but I need to start drinking Ensure every day to make sure I start gaining. I'm down 2 more pounds for a total of aroun 10 I think.

Virtual Shower- I could totally be in on that BUT...I just thought I'd mention that me being on the other side of the world might be a hindrance. I guess if noone is up for posting internationally then honestly that's okay I'll not be offended and I won't be all cranky pooh about missing out. (And just for the record I have no problem with posting a gift internationally) Oh and I think the Secret side to it would be fun! :)

Baby Names-We have talked about it and we're pretty much decided that for a boy it would be: Jackson Lee and for a girl it would be Shelby/Shelbie something-not totally decided on the final spelling and neither have we worked out a middle name.

Thanks for the lists of baby necessities! It's really helpful to hear experienced Mum's sharing their thoughts on this. Especially since all the Baby Shops list tons of things that seem non-essential on their "must-have" lists! :rolleyes:

Anyway, here is a quick update:

Had my Nuchal Fold (1st Trimester Sceening) test back on Dec. 13th. Thankfully, everything looks good. I came back with lower risk factors than my age group for both Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18, which is great. We were relieved.

I go for my 16 wk OB appointment next Wednesday, Jan. 11th. I am getting very, very anxious to find out the sex of le bebe. I assume my "big" u/s will be the following appointment in February, when I am 20 wks. I can't wait!

Feeling the Baby:
I haven't felt the baby move yet, however, I am only 15w5d right now. I am looking forward to feeling the little one move, as, I still do not "feel" pg! I think I am starting to look pg, but not a full-on pg belly yet. That, combined with my lack of sympotms makes me really anxious for the next u/s to make sure the little one is growing right! I am such a worry wort.... that can't be good for the baby.

Ear Piercing: I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 11 or 12. I likely will follow this tradition if I have a girl, but to be honest, I haven't put much thought into it. I think ear piercing for girls is a cultural thing... .for some, it is very important to pierce at an early age.

Names: We still like Mia Elizabeth for a girl and either Charles Patrick (Charlie) or Owen Patrick for a boy. DH prefers Owen and I prefer Charlie. Once we find out the sex, we will revisit the "name" issue.

Strollers/Cribs, etc.: We've been to a few furniture stores looking at cribs. I found one at BRU that I liked but I found 2 more at another store. They said they take 4-10 wks to order so we have plenty of time.

Surprisingly, DH was way into picking out a stroller. He found a Graco/Century one that he really liked. He felt it was made really well :rolleyes: I've looked at Peg Perego, Combi, Britex, and the Bugaboo. So far, I like the Graco ones the best. My friend just got a Bugaboo, but to be honest, I'm not crazy about the look of the stroller and the price ($800) is way out of our budget. But, they are supposed to be the most popular right now. We'll likely stick with a Graco.

[B]Bassinets/[B]: I can't seem to find any bassinets that I really like. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to look? I tried BRU,JCPenny, Sears and Bergstroms (a childrens furniture store here in SoCal.) Any other ideas? TIA!

Okay, that's all for now. Congrats to all who have found out the sexes! So many boys.... so exciting!

Virtual Shower: I agree on April. I think it may be easier for Kaeden's mommy if we just posted it on here. That way she wouldn't have to pm back and forth to get let everyone know who they are doing and then pm again for addresses and registries, annd who knows what else. It would be easier to just post it here and then each of us pm our person for their info.

steviem- depending on your budget, I saw a beautiful one in the most recent Pottery Barn Kids catalog. It was gorgeous! but I think it's quite pricey too. . .

and just for the record astlrdec- I wouldn't mind shipping to Australia!

Wow, it's been a looong time since I've posted. I'm pretty sure I've already posted this, but my ultrasound is next Wednesday the 11th, at 10:15 am. Which is really weird because I think I read one of Mrs. Brownie's posts and hers is at the exact same time, and we're due the same day. Weird.

We're not planning on finding out the gender, but I'm just praying that the ultrasound shows that everything is fine and the babe is healthy. I'm excited about it, but really kind of nervous, too.

I'll try to respond to as many things as I remember:

Virtual Shower: I'll hop on board, even though I'm a bit of an inconsistent poster.:rolleyes:

Movement: I FELT THE BABY 2 NIGHTS AGO!!! I was lying in bed and just feeling weird sensations down there. I even felt a couple little kicks that night and yesterday I think. Nothing today, but I haven't really sat quietly either.

Morning sickness: I felt nauseated all through the first tri, but I never threw up. I've felt pretty good for several weeks, but yesterday morning I threw up 4 times in a row! It was pretty weird, and I despise throwing up, so I wasn't thrilled. I've also been feeling some heartburn in the last couple days.

Exercise: Ugh, no, and I feel like such a terrible person. It's so cold here though, and I don't have access to a gym or a treadmill or anything like that. I really want to do something though lest I turn into The Blob.

Furniture: We have a couple of IKEA dressers that aren't currently being used, and I'll use one of those with a changing pad on top instead of a changing table. A member of the board at the library where I work has offered to give me her little used crib, and I gladly took her up on that. I need to get my rear in gear and figure what all I'm going to need to register for here one of those days.

Names: We pretty much have names decided. Cecily Anne for a girl, and Micah Orin for a boy. My grandpa who died the year I was born was Cecil, so I thought Cecily was a nice tribute to him, plus I just really like the name. DH's grandpa who is in bad health right now is Orin. I wasn't thrilled with the name, but I can take it as a middle name, and I really like to the idea of names having ties to our heritage.

Acne: It was a little rough in the early months, but I've cleared up pretty well. I think I will check out bare minerals makeup though because I've heard an awful lot of good things about it. My hair has been kinda crazy though. I finally got it cut tonight because it was getting so big and shaggy I felt like it was overwhelming my head. DH was kinda like :eek: , but he has to love me anyways.;)

CC Buddy: I'm a bit of an antisocial CCer I'm afraid, so I don't have any buddies.:o But that's just kind of me. I imagine I'll get DH to post or else I'll just wait 'til I get home. Yikes, this is seeming very real all of a sudden.

All of you who are still in regular clothes, I salute you. I fear it is maternity for me all the way (and has been for several weeks). Darn my short torso.

Gaffy ~ This is getting a little weird. I'm right there with you. On the timing (19 weeks tomorrow...woohoo) and on the Big U/S...next Wednesday at 10:15am. We are still on the fence about finding out the sex. I don't want to (although am starting to waver) and DH is determined. I said if it was obvious to us and the tech didn't have to go looking, then we could find out, hoping that it will still be a surprise for us.

I'm so envious that you are feeling movement too. I'm not yet (although my mom thinks that an overactive baby that I'm just not feeling kept me awake last night.) Hopefully soon though, and I can't wait for the U/S to make sure that everything is alright.

According to all our visits (first U/S and both M/W appointments) we have one active baby that won't stay put for long, so I wonder if it's just my excess of body fat that is hindering me feeling things (that or I just don't know what I'm expecting and just not in tune to it yet.)

Lidsay ~ Congrats on your little boy...I can't believe we are up to five boys and no girls...if Kaeden's mom isn't the first to post about a little girl, than I hope to be (if I can beat Gaffy that is) assuming we do find out the sex too...gosh, that's going to be hard to stick to me guns. Must*remember*I*want*it*to*be*a*surprise...ARGHHH, it's going to be so hard though.

Crib ~ Thanks for the responses on the crib. I'm a little torn on what to do. My sister is going through some personal things right now that are taking up most of her attention (a messy break up, looking for a new place, etc.) and she hasn't had alot of patience or time for the rest of us. So it's a little bit of a touchy subject. But I've talked to my mom and she's going to talk to my sister and see what the deal is. My mom thinks that my sister has already paid for the crib and change table, which is great but I just want to make sure that she will come through. Otherwise, I want to take DH's Boss up on her offer of the good stuff. Ah, the things I have to worry about.

Virtual Shower ~ For the record, I don't have a problem shipping to Australia either...rather have everyone participate than have someone feel like they have to miss out. And I am located in Canada (with Connorsmommy) so that means some extra shipping too...hope it's not a problem or I can bow out too.

Can we not buy something, through the internet or telephone, from the stores that we register at and have them ship to the person? I know we can do that here in Canada, as alot of our out-of-town guests did it with our wedding gifts. Might make things so much easier for some of us...just a thought!

I think it's perfect to plan for April, as we should *hopefully* all be organized enough to know what we do and do not need...or have the registries done. I like the idea of the Secret Gift Giver...but agree that it might be too much for an 8-month pregnant woman to do on her own...whoever that may be. I can volunteer some help though, if needed.

What else ~ Well, Canada's Junior Hockey Team just won Gold at the World Championship. I just spent three hours with DH watching the game...I think now I'm ready for bed. Let's just hope I can sleep tonight...please, please, please.

Anxiously awaiting my Baby Bedding to make it's appearance and that's about it.

Okay...off to bed, hopefully tomorrow is a better day for me, plus it's Friday and I hit the 19 week mark...yay!

Wow! That was a lot to catch up on!

Virtual Shower, April sounds good to me, and I am alredy super excited! :D I think a secret shower would be really fun, but I do agree that it might be too much work for the threadmistresses so whatever is easiest is fine with me! :D I don't have a problem at all with shipping to Australia or Canada! I don't think anyone should feel obligated to bow out due to shipping.

M/S, I have been nauseous here and there, which is more than I was before, and my gag reflex has been horrible lately! This morning was the worst!! I don't know what is going on with that, but it is really annoying! :rolleyes:

I'm so jealous you are all counting down the days to your u/s! Mine isn't until 22 weeks! :eek: Dang it! Oh well. I will have to live vicariously through all of you :)

Happy Friday everyone!

StevieM - regarding bassinets - are you stuck on having the standard stand-alone bassinet? If not, consider getting a playpen with the bassinet attachement on top - they're not much more than a standard playpen (which you may be getting anyway), and most babies don't spend too many weeks in the basinet before having to be moved to something bigger...

The virtual shower and shipping - obviously, I'm in Canada, and I also don't mind sending internationally - I do it all the time b/c I sell stuff on eBay quite often.

Babylust - I see you're from Bismark... :) I grew up in Manitoba, just north of you... well, northeast of you, really... Rare to encounter someone from ND online....

MrsBrownie - we totally forgot to watch tonight -we didn't have the TV on at all! oops...

My u/s - the countdown has begun... 14 days. Well, 13.5 if you want to get technical. :) I can't wait!!

Oh I totally agree. Unfortunately Australia is still very archaic in that registries are only accessible in store and shopping online is limited! BUT..that said I would be more than happy to find and list things that are orderable online from Australian companies so that the shopper had postage saving options.

Oh and the only other thing that may be hassle (but it's not always) is that some US (and I'm guessing Australian too) companies won't accept international credit cards but a lot will so I guess that's not the hugest problem in the world...no pun intended :rolleyes: .

Thanks for those people who don't have a problem with the international shipping. I'd have hated to miss out. That said though I think that if someone isn't comfortable with or can't afford international shipping (it is a bit more pricey) then please speak up and I'm sure you can get a fellow countrymen to post to. It is meant to be fun afterall! :)

Just chiming in on the virtual shower discussion - one way we could keep in a secret is to PM the June06 Mommies username with our names and addresses. Then we (Kaeden'sMommy, myself or another volunteer) could just forward the PM to the appropriate person. That way, we all don't have our names and addresses floating around. Also, it cuts down on the cutting and pasting of each person's address into one file. Does that sound like it might work? That way we can share the task and as each person sends their address, we don't have to wait for everyone.

I had a dr's appt. yesterday. All looks well with the baby and I'm measuring on time, however I am gaining too much weight. I'm so jealous of those of you who haven't gained!! I am already up 17 lbs.!! And my dr. is only counting from my weight at my first visit at 8 weeks. I had already gained five pounds by then, so total I'm really up 22 lbs. He is sending me to see a nutritionist!! I think this is just hard for me because 1) I actually eat now. I really didn't eat all that much before, and now I'm eating 3 good meals a day, plus trying to have little snacks like they told me to, and 2) I've always been able to eat whatever I want without gaining any weight, but that's not the case anymore. The dr. says my total ideal weight gain should be 30 lbs and I'm already more than halfway there, but not halfway in the pregnancy. Sigh.....

But some exciting news: BIG U/S on February 2!! I'm super excited because at my last appt. I saw the other dr. in the practice and she told me 24 weeks for the big u/s. My dr. told me yesterday 20 weeks. I was hoping he would. I'm going to get my bloodwork for my Quad Screening later today.

bassinette I was gonna use the pack and play with the bassinette-type insert rather than buy one. I figure the baby won't be using it for very long.

Hey gals.. TGIF..

Virtual shower: April sounds good to me.. and surprise or not does not matter to me... :)

Bassinet: We actually have a cradle that my dad made for me when I was a baby that we will be using...

Strollers: I am glad we are chatting about this... there are so many things I want this stroller to have... example: carseat/stroller; lightweight; something I can continue to use as the baby gets bigger; small (I do not want a bulky stroller at all....).. and of course I love the look of the 3 wheeled ones. Am I being unrealistic... do you think i can find one w/ all those features? I did look at bugaboo... love them a bit pricey and not sure I need ALL of those features..
Amurphy: love the stroller you posted Quinny Zap.. (I think).. so darn cute.. now can you use that when the baby is still small?

Have a great day!

Bassinet:
I was going to get a pack n play to use as a bassinet but found this one on ebay (local pickup) for a great price so I got it instead.This will be used in our room while the baby is still little - I still might get a pack n play for when it is over 20 lbs to use if we go out of town or something.

Sunshine GREAT FINDS!

Ok now I am obsessing about strollers and I just love this one but I know NOTHING about it .. it is called the Quinny Buzz (Amurphy you have me hooked on them) and I would get the Maxi Cosi Cabrio carseat... it appears to have the features I like (small, carseat compatible, 2 wheels...) any thoughts on this ... now mind you I would get a different color perhaps.. but if anyone has any input good/bad I would appreciated it... :D

jbenny, I can sympathize with you on the weight gain. With my first pregnancy I felt like the weight gain train was running me over. I gained so much weight and I couldn't stop it! I was well over an average of 1 lb/week the whole time, although it did slow down a bit the last couple weeks. I went to see the nutritionist and she actually helped me a lot. There were a lot of things I was eating that I for some reason didn't know how calorie and sugar laden they were. For example, I replaced my coffee with a big glass of grapefruit juice in the morning - not only does that have a lot of calories, but it is basically pure sugar so it makes you crave more sugar. I also ate a lot of PB&J sandwiches - again, lots of sugar/carbs. little fiber and not enough protein. After DD was born I slowly lost weight but was hanging on to 10-15 pounds a year later that didn't go away. I went on the South Beach Diet and learned a lot about how to eat better and avoid high glycemic index foods and I think that as helped me control my weight a lot better this time around. I am not being strict at all and still eat ice cream every night, but I think my eating habits are much better. At 18 weeks, I've gained a total of 13 pounds form the beginning which is more than most people on this board but so much better than last time and I'm happy with it.

Anwyay, that was a long rambly book on the subject but I just wanted to share what I've learned and let you know that you're not alone.

good morning everyone!

all this talk about strollers and bassinetts made me call DH to complain that we haven't bought one thing. we haven't even looked for anything. he stopped me in the middle of my rant and told me that he wanted to go look this weekend!!! :D I am very excited. I don't think we will buy anything but at least we can start looking!!!!

weight gain- I am up 7 pounds on an already too big body. this is going to be the hardest part for me. I am trying to eat right and I actually lost a little in the beginning but I have been trying to force the scale down for so long that it's hard to watch it go up. thankfully, DH tells me I look great every day.

and regarding the Quinny strollers- can you even get them here in the States? I love them but thought they weren't available here?

I am a woman obsessed with baby gear right now. Just bump up any stroller related thread and you will see my name all over it! I'm also freaking about all the painting and stuff we need to do before we move upstairs. I'm starting to want to nest already I think! We also need a second ac for the upstairs. Dh is very laid back and just thinks everything will fall into place and I am very high strung so he is pi$$ing me off!

Hello All :D

OMG This is going to be the longest weekend for me ever!! Monday can't get here fast enough for me :eek: We have a birthday party for one of the kids in Niko's play group tomorrow but Sunday is wide open :eek: I may have to go shopping just to kill time :p

bassinet: ITA with connorsmommy. They outgrow them so fast. And IMO unless you have a multi level house you'll be able to put the baby down in the crib. We got the pack and play for travel purposes, and it is great. We now have it set up in the basement by the laundry area so I don't have to watch him while I'm doing laundry.

Must Haves: I don't know if these were listed but I loved them and used them right from the beginning. A baby monitor. Even though Niko was in our room (we didn't have room for him any other place) it was nice to be able to do dishes or sit in the living room and not have to worry about hearing him.

The other was the boppy.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000069RAO.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Even if you don't bf, it was nice to lay him on the boppy and not have to worry about my arm falling asleep. Even Brian used it.

Another was a neck pillow for me.
http://s7ondemand1.scene7.com/is/image/LillianVernon/035937?$250x188$
There were many nights when Niko and I were up and I was dozing and my head was bopping all over the place scaring myself awake. As soon as I got that it stopped a lot of head jolts. Brian would use that too if he got up in the middle of the night.

I'm feeling crappy today. I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin, and not in the u/s excited way either. I'm shaky and just don't feel right. All the dr's tell me it's a rush of hormones. They also say it's related to a girl, we'll see on Monday - if we can see the stuff.

connorsmommy ~ I'm also from ND I just don't let that out too often. :) I used to go bar hopping in MB when I was 18!

International shipping ~ For those in Canada and for Astlrdec correct me if I'm wrong, but if you ship regular mail it takes a few weeks to arrive but the cost isn't much more. If you ship airmail the cost jumps, right? If so, we could get things set up a little sooner and those who get your names could ship a little earlier than the rest.

Kaedens -
where in ND? My dad has relatives all over NE North Dakota and NW Minnesota.... and I'm from just over the border along Highway 75 (interstate 29 in the US) ... where did you go to bars in Manitoba? TOOO funny! I spent many a spring break as a child with my parents in Grand Forks and Fargo... ;)

Pink -
I think you can get a contour one that helsp keep the baby in the middle...that straps to the dresser somehow.

Niko's - I had the Boppy. Well, it was actually the Jolly Jumper one with a removable toy bar for the child...and honestly, I Hated it for nursing...it was so small that it would always pop off my waist (and I'm not a huge girl - I'm a size 8-12, probably closer to a size 12 after giving birth)... So this time around, I'm getting a nursing pillow from Marisa (www.funkygiraffe.com). The "boppy" we have will be good for the baby when they start learning to sit up a little. But other than that, I won't be using it for bf'ing!

jbenny - Don't worry about your weight gain. There's nothing you can do to get rid of what you've already gained, so try not to let it get you down. With DD, I was on bedrest for 2 months and gained 47lbs. when I should have been around 25-30lbs. But I had her, got motivated, and lost 60lbs. I, too, felt like I was eating normally and couldn't figure out why I was gaining so much. Just don't beat yourself up!!!

NikosMommy Ugg!!! I hope you have a good weekend...the anticipation is terrible, isn't it?? I hope you feel better, too!

I'm feeling so much better today. The headache is gone, and I have a little energy thanks to DD sleeping in until 7:45.

bassinets – I’m going to go the Pack n Play route myself. Most moms I’ve spoken with didn’t find the bassinets worthwhile. I plan to do as my sister did and just put the PNP next to the bed. Some of my friends that have used them only had them because it was passed down.

Jbenny – I hope things go well with the nutritionist. I had a dr. appt yesterday and I ask the doc about my weight. I’m up 13 pounds and was worried I was gaining too much. The holidays didn’t help. Anyway, he told me that he doesn’t get on women too much about their weight gain. He said 25-40lbs is normal. I only want to gain 25 lbs. Now that I’m back from the holidays I’m am eating better. I also need to start walking again.

Sunshine – the bassinet looks nice. I like how it is not the typical white.

Pink – yep you can put a changing pad on anything. We will have a daybed in the baby’s room as well so I’m sure I’ll be doing most of the changing on the bed.

OMG...TOO funny! Shut up - you're in Fargo!? ;) Heeee... I loved going to West Acres mall when I was a teenager...

Does a bar called Burkes in a town called Morris ring a bell? LMAO... I bet you've been there (everyone has...)

LOL... I used to work in a town just 5 minutes from Neche, ND... hehe....we used to go across there on our lunch break to buy american junk food that we couldn't buy in Canada. :)

Fargo - after our wedding in Manitoba, Wade and I had to drive back to Calgary, and we decided to do so via the Black Hills and make a mini-honeymoon of it. It was Wade's first time ever in North Dakota. He was always making fun of me b/c I grew up so close to "Fargo" (and he was hoping to find people with the stereotypical "Fargo" accents, thanks to a certain movie...). And, wouldn't you know, we stopped for supper in Fargo, and our waitress had the stereotypical "Margie" accent. It was practically the HIGHLIGHT of our honeymoon for him. :D

weight gain - as of my 10 wk appointment, I was up 8 lbs from pre-pg weight. Though, I think their scale isn't synced up well with my scale at home - back at my last annual, their scale showed that I was 4-5 lbs heavier than my home scale.

However, I'm sure I am up even more than 8 lbs now...

This is so different than last time. With Connor, I stayed the exact same pre-pg weight until 20 weeks, when I finally had a 2 lb gain. I ended up gaining a total of 26 lbs between weeks 20 and 35. And after several weeks PPD, I was down 18 lbs, and couldn't shake the last 8 lbs until Connor was 14 months old.

Sadly, and I say this to warn the first timers. WHen you have your baby, you might expect to lose some weight instantly (after all, your baby could weigh 5-10 lbs, the placenta weighs 2-3 lbs (?), plus all the amniotic fluid you lose... So you think you'll be down 10-15 lbs immediately, right? Well, that can happen, but for a lot of us, it won't. In fact, 3 days after Connor was born, I weighed myself at home, and I was the exact same as I was before he was born. My belly had shrunk a little and had become this puffy flabby thing, but my weight hadn't changed despite having a 5 lb 6 oz baby (plus all the extras that come out at the same time). LOL... it took a week or so before the weight started coming off (slowly) at the scale.

And, wouldn't you know, we stopped for supper in Fargo, and our waitress had the stereotypical "Margie" accent. It was practically the HIGHLIGHT of our honeymoon for him. :D

We used to go to MB to buy that yummy caramel in the red plaid box. YUM!! Too funny that you get the rare person who actually speaks that way. I'm sure your DH will never forget that! :D

Mmmm... MacIntosh's Toffee... :) Makes me want to go get some from the convenience store downstairs....

My mom used to work part time at the Emerson Duty-Free shop, and she said they could never keep enough MatIntosh's in stock -- as Americans travelling back home would practically swarm the place looking for it all the time. :)

Ladies,

Thanks for all the great info on bassinets. Shoudaeloped, I did see that bassient in the PBK catalogue! It is beautiful, except, too expensive for moi!

I hadn't thought of using a Pack-n-Play, but many of you have said that works well, so, I will definitely consider this option.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks for those of you posting thoughts on bassinets/pack-n-plays. I had wondered if the PNP was a viable alternative and it sounds like that's the case.

Anyone considering getting a co-sleeper instead? That was my 1st thought, followed by PNP with bassinet feature. Is the height much higher on the PNP and that's why some people go with a co-sleeper? This is like learning a whole new language. So many new things to figure out....

on the virtual shower I think the time suggested would be perfect and am also fine either way- anonymous or not. Also no problems with shipping to another country. Kind of fun anyway!

Is a co-sleeper the same as a sleep postioner? I was looking into those, but I read that the SIDS website doesn't recommend those. I read about a baby that somehow managed to wiggle herself down, turn her face to the side, and had her face smushed up against the side of the thing. She was okay, but that was enough for me to decide not to get one.

This is what I'm thinking of. Is this a co-sleeper?

Add us to the list who used a PNP rather than a bassinet. It worked for us and the PNP is useful so much longer.

jbenny ~ That is a co-sleeper.

jbenny I think what you posted is called a "snugglenest" or something like that and I can be used for cosleeping in your bed. THere is another thing which is what I thought ffanel was referring to that is basically a 3-sided bassinet that attaches to the side of your bed - the baby is right there so you can easily just scoop him up to nurse or whatever, but he has his own space so you don't have to worry about suffocatin under the covers, rolling over on him or whatever.

I was thinking more along the lines of what Orange posted. I'll probably just use the PNP. I won't be surprised if we also do some co-sleeping, but I'm not sure if the trust the baby in the best with my DH.

ffanel

Yep, what Orange posted was what I had in mind, but I also want to get a PNP because it seems like it would be nice to have for travel, downstairs in our home, etc. Any opinions welcome....

Jbenny - that's interesting to know about the sleep positioners. Baby Bargains also did not recommend them since they say babies cannot roll over early on so if they're placed on their backs they stay that way. I think I'll also forgo this item.

I mentioned I was in for the virtual shower. How does it work? Does someone picks names and then we set a $ limit and go from there?

That's the general idea. I'll just put names in a hat and draw if that's okay with everyone. Then I can post the list of who you buy for and we can set a $ limit. Kind of like secret Santa, but not a secret.

I'm in! Sounds like fun. I'm off to Prague & Vienna tomorrow. I'll check up with you ladies after I return.

ETA: Oh, and I've only gained 1 pound so far - SWEET! And we're going to use a pack-n-play since we're in a small NYC apartment. We won't pierce our daughters ears until she's 10 or so. And some friends in the city I moved away from two years ago are throwing me a shower in March and some friends here will do one in April. :) What fun!

I made it to 19 weeks, can hardly believe it. One more week and I've gone halfway, that's so exciting, plus a big U/S on Wednesday too...what a week.

So, still not feeling any movement, or not what I think I should be feeling anyways. I've been feeling like alot of twinges and gassy feeling, which I've heard could be baby, but it's still not what I've been expecting. I guess I don't know what I've been expecting...maybe a *knock, knock* like 'I'm here mom...don't forget about me and pass down some ice cream while you are at it.' But I guess that's not the case. Hopefully it won't be long before I can distinguish the gas/belly aches from baby.

On an exciting note...bedding should be shipped by tomorrow (if not earlier) and I just won an OiOi Messenger Diaper Bag on EBay. It's my one splurge for me...I consider it my belated Christmas gift.

Anyways, that's it for me. Hope everyone had a great day and here's to being able to sleep in tomorrow.

Congratulations to all who have had or are having u/s shortly! Mine won't be until the beginning of Feb:( On the bright side, I have decided to try my domestic skills and make my own nursery bedding:eek: I found this adorable winnie-the-pooh toile on ebay, and decided I that those things couldn't be too hard. My mom is going to help me (of course!) I can't figure out how to post the picture of the toile, but I will keep trying! Anyway, I sure hope it comes out good! We decided Pooh would be very gender neutral (we are not finding out the sex), and easy to accessorize, but this will make it just a little different.
My DH and I are also on the big crib, dresser, and stroller/carseat hunt!! There are so many!!! We ordered the Shermaq Grand glider from Babies R Us, but that our only purchase so far!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend :D
We had the birthday party today and it was fun. They had the big tube thing for the kids to crawl through and Niko had a blast. So did daddy for that matter :D He was right in there with him. I actually went in the under 3 section and came down the slide. I would like to say it was fun, but it was ugly. The slide wasn't wide enough for my hips so I didn't really slide - I edged down :o

Yes that is also another good option. I don't know about Canada but SeaMail (which is the only option apart from AirMail from the US--I believe from what my In-laws in Ohio tell me) takes around 2-3 months to get to my place (I've had 2 parcels sent sea/surface mail from the US in the past few months and that's how long they took to arrive.) Canada I'm sure would be faster since it's closer. But truly I don't mind at all if it arrives a little late. No biggie! :)

Niko-Good luck tomorrow!! I'm sure the baby will cooperate! :)

jcharley - Good for you at being domestic and making the baby's bedding! I hope it goes well for you!

Mrs Brownie - Congrats on making it to 19 weeks!! I'm sure you'll start to feel definite movements soon. A couple of the definite thumps I've felt are more like tiny taps from the inside but I've only had 2 of those. I've heard that they can get quite painful as pregnancy progresses!

Hope everyone has a wonderful week in which they feel beautifully pregnant without any of the nasty 'symptoms'...;)

Hello All :)

Ok, so a little bit of panic has set in. I'm excited about the u/s tomorrow, but now the fear of "there might be something wrong" has set in. With Niko I got to see him every week so I knew he was progressing ok. With this one, I've only seen him/her twice. I'm trying not to think of it too much, but all of the what ifs are running through my head.

I had planned on going shopping today, but I'm just lounging around. Plus Brian wants to take both the cars for oil changes so I'm kinda stuck home anyway.

I forgot, I'll ship anywhere in the world. We send stuff to Germany all the time, it's not that expensive.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

I have a question for everyone that has or is planning on buying a crib with no drop sides. I really like them, but the guy at USA Baby yesterday told me the top of the crib should be right below your hip so you can safely reach and older child when the mattress is in the lowest position. I am 5'7", which is on the tall side for women, and after seeing me next to a couple cribs, he told me I would probably have trouble getting to the lowest mattress setting safely. if you have one, how tall are you and is it hard to get a 20 or 30 pond sleeping child into the crib? There are so many no-drop side cribs, I find it hard to believe you have to be at least 5'8" or 5'9" to comffortably use them!! Looking for opinions before I buy!!!!!
Thanks!

I couldn't imagine getting my 25 lb toddler in and out comfortably without dropping the sides- I need to be able to bend at the waist to do so without killing my back. I'm 5'5. I don't think my 6'2 husband needs to drop the rails, though. I suppose you could always take a sack of potatoes into the store and test it out! :D

We bought this book, and it's just a book full of names, like a dictionary. It tells you if the name is in the top 100 (2004 I think), what it means, celebrities or biblical/historical people with that name, etc. It serves the purpose, and honestly, anything more than 25,000 names is too many! :rolleyes:

Niko's mommy, I hear you about being nervous for the ultrasound. I mean, I'm super looking forward to it, but it's a little scary at the same time. This'll be my first ultrasound, so I haven't seen him/her at all yet, and in the back of my mind I can't help but have thoughts of things that could be wrong. I'm doing my best to trust God and just not worry about things I can't control, but when I'm lying in bed in the middle of the night that's not always easy to do.

And for those of you looking for baby name books, libraries often have a pretty good selection. You can look through several different books without having to purchase them all! :)

I hope everyone is having a good weekend, and best wishes to all who have ultrasounds coming up this week!

Hi again :)

jcharley We have a drop side and I couldn't live without it. I'm 5'7" and Brian is 6'3". I must drop the side to put Niko in and we're not even on the lowest mattress setting yet. Brian doesn't have to.
I'm actually finding harder now with the belly to lay him down in it even with the side down :(
The safety issue for getting a child out... is that safety for you not getting hurt or picking up the baby safely? I did a lot of reading and never heard that before so I'm curious to know what he meant.

graffy I know what you mean about it being out of my hands, we really have no control over what happens. We're just the ovens baking the bread. How it comes out is up to the way the ingredients were mixed. Not every loaf is perfect, but we still love bread, everyeone does. Brian's dad gave me that analogy a while back and although it's a serious situation, when I think of it that way it makes me smile.
Anyway, as you, it still makes me nervous.

We have this book. It has a brief paragraph about how to name a baby, like not picking fad names, i.e. JZ or PDiddy :p It also lists the top names of 2003 (we got it in 2004), I'm sure it's updated now. Other than that, it's lists of names, the origin of the name and meaning.

jcharley: We bought a crib with no drop side. I was so concerned about finding a sturdy crib. And it seemed like unless we were willing to pay $600 they ones with the drop side all seemed questionable. So we opted for fixed. I am 5'7'' as well. I think at the lowest setting it might become a little challenging, but I think it will be fine (cross my fingers!). DH is 5'9" he feels totally comfortable not having the drop side.

This is the crib we bought:

Yay for reaching 18w. I'm really enjoying being pregnant and after doing a quick search on BabyCentre the other day about not being very big and still fitting normal clothes this far along I'm feeling more happy about things. Still have that nervous anticipation for the U/s in....one and half weeks(!) but definitely feeling like "yeah I really am in the 2nd trimester and I am really pregnant." Lol...am I a little bit behind everyone or what? :cool:

NikosMommy-How did it go?? It's Monday evening here so you may not have been for the u/s yet but I'll ask anyway! :)

Connorsmommy-You have most definitely popped! :) How sad is it that my little belly at 18w is probably only about the size of your 13w belly?? :o

No drop crib- You can buy these?? I've never heard of it. Having worked in the childcare industry for the past 5 years you'd think I'd have heard of them but no. It is a requirement in all childcare centres I've worked in to drop the side of the crib before you pull the child out...I'm tall at 5'9" and often forget because I can lift young babies out easily but it's a big OH&S no-no in childcare. I'd personally buy a crib with a drop side just because it would be too hard to bend your knees and lift a toddler safely without straining your back.

Bassinet/Crib - I'm not sure if I'll buy a bassinet or not. We're planning on co-sleeping at this stage and since we don't actually own a bed yet :eek: (we're on a really good matress on the floor) we might just buy a crib mattress and butt that up next to the bed between my side and the wall. I think I'd like something to put the baby in when it first arrives though for security. And if we need a crib/cot we'll get one later if needed.

LOL, well if it's any consolation, with my first pg, I:

- started wearing maternity jeans on the weekends at around 14 (?) weeks.
- started wearing maternity clothes a little more at around 20-21 weeks.

PNPs/cosleepers Thanks for all of the feedback. I'm going to check out th height on the PNP. If it's the same as a co-sleeper and fits between our bed and the wall, that might just be the way we go. I'll keep you guys posted and if others have any insight, please feel free to share.

Ffanel – I’m guessing that the PNP and co-sleeper are around the same height. Difference is that with the cosleeper the front side is lower or can be lowered making it easier to get the baby out when you are in the bed next to it. The PNP will most likely require a little more effort, but has additional bells and whistles like a changing table. Depending on the PNP you like, the cost really isn’t that different between the PNP and co-sleeper. It will come down to if which conveniences are more important to you.

Nikos – Today is the day. What time is the appt.

I have 9 days to my U/S. DH and I have decided to do a Classic Pooh theme for the baby’s room. We bought a switch plate yesterday and I have some classic pooh letters that I bought last year. I really want to find a classic pooh calendar so I can frame the pictures, but so far I can only find regular pooh ones. DH may paint a mural, but I’d rather have something that won’t require me to repaint the room once our child decides he/she is tired of classic pooh.

I believe someone else in here had the AFP test - but I do not remember who. If you know the results can you post them?

My doctor called & said "not to worry" but things did not as good as they should. He said they are not bad enough that they would request an amnio but we need to have an ultrasound earlier than the 26th to "see how things are measuring" -

wow they just called me back ... my u/s is scheduled for the morning at 10:30 I will only be 17 wks & 2 days ... I do not know if they will be able to tell what this baby is or if I still will have my reg. u/s on the 26th for that.

Please keep us in your prayers that everything is ok

connorsmommy Looking good! Wow what a difference between the first and the second baby. I'm glad that it "pops" that quick only at the second one because it takes some getting used to at the first pregnancy (for me anyway).

sunshineab622 Good luck with the U/s. Hope everything looks good.
We had the triple screen done. I called the doc's office on Friday to get my results. The doctor was supposed to call me but hasn't yet. So the nurse looked at it and said it looked all normal (within normal range). Yay!

risk of down: 1 in 20 000
risk of neural tube defect: 1 in 7000
risk of trisomy 18 less than 1 in 100 (this sounds high, but she said it was in the usual range)... I am now doubting this from what I read online. I will definitely talk to the doc about this one.

Big u/s scheduled for Jan 26 to find out the gender of the baby (keeping our fingers crossed).

sunshineab622: I had posted a question asking about the AFP but I think you were the only who responded. I opted not to have the test. You and your baby will be in my thoughts. I hope your ultrasound goes well.

Ryan: The Quinny isn't available in the US. We will either get it through Sears Canada (we have some family in Canada) or through the Internet. I would love to get the Maxi Cosi seat to go with it, but I'm concerned about it not being approved for use in the US. I just don't know if the safety standards are up to par? I did see a woman with the Quinny wheeling around Chicago this weekend. It is a very cool stroller!

Good luck at your u/s today, Nikosmom!

I'm sorry not to do more SOs. I was in Chicago visiting my father this weekend so there are a ton of posts to read through. Hope everyone is doing well!

I think I mentioned this already, but I have my Level II ultrasound this Thursday. I'm pretty nervous but excited to see the baby.

connorsmommy- It is so reassuring to see your baby bump! I don't really have anyone to compare bumps to. I am a week behind you and now I am feeling like I am right on track!

Dropside crib- We definitely had to get a drop side crib. I am only 5'4 so I think I would have trouble with a non dropside even on the highest setting! I am really happy with our purchase. It is a convertable crib so we can switch it to a toddler bed and then a day bed if we want.

So I think I get to schedule my u/s after this Wednesday and I am so excited. The more I see the more I want to know if it is a boy or girl. I know that we already have the Pooh neutral stuff but I am already planning my "toddler- preschooler room." If it is a boy I want to do a jungle theme and make his bed like a tent and get that canopy for his stuffed animals and if it is a girl I want to do an Alice and Wonderland tea party theme. I found the most adorable pink plaid chairs at Ross the other day and I almost bought them on the spot just in case. They were so cute! I am most surely nesting.

DS2003- We are also doing a Pooh themed room too. I have heard that they have a ton of adorable Classic Pooh stuff at JonAnn Fabrics. Luckily my mom is a Pooh Bear fanatic so we are just borrowing a ton of her stuff to put on the shelves and then give it back once we are done!. There are also a ton of stuff at Target to look at. They have a really cute growth chart and I bought the absolute softest Classic Bear there, I think that is also where we got our wall decals. Walmart also has a lot of stuff, but I think it is all regular Pooh.

Is anyone else in shock that we are almost half way through our pregnancies! I know I am only 16 weeks but I can't believe that by Valentine's Day, I will be half way there! Time just seems to fly, our little ones will be here in no time!

I'm looking forward to your news Nikosmommy!

Karen you look terrific! I too have moved up the maternity clothes start with each pg. PG 1: 26 weeks, PG 2: 23 weeks, PG 3: ? I am almost 17 weeks now, maybe another month to 6 weeks? I'll see if I make it to 23 again!

I'm reading along but don't have much news here lately.

lil_mrs - thanks for the tip on JoAnn. It is one of my fav stores and I haven't been shopping there in a while. The Classic Pooh switchplate was got from Target. They were out of a lot of stuff and I didn't see any wall decor.

Karen I'll friend you back! I think I get away with waiting a bit because I am moderately tall (5'7") and have a long torso. Doesn't mean I don't have a thickening waistline!

Oh, on the crib question, we have a drop side crib and I never put it down! Probably not too good for my back but certainly doable. My almost 3 year old is still in her crib (until later this week) and she is so tall now, I just lift her straight out.

sunshine-Keep us posted. I'll be thinking of you :) .

Can't wait to hear from Nikosmommy! I'm all excited about my ultrasound now, especially since I decided to find out the sex.

I've started to get really hot and sweaty over doing the smallest things and I feel like my heart is pounding. According to one of the newsletters I get every week that I got today, it's normal. It took me forever to get the groceries in the house today and to get them put away and the dishes washed and all that. I have so much more to do but it feels like it takes so much out of me now. I'm sure it's because I do so little physical activity since I'm still so sick.

Pink, I am feeling the same way - my heart is always pounding and I feel like I am out of breath even when I'm just sitting around. I think that in the past week or maybe 2 my blood volume has really increased a lot, which is normal for second trimester. My gums bleed a lot - always when I floss but sometimes even from just brushing and I am a gentle brusher!

Cribs Ours has a drop side and I could definitely not go without it. My DD is in a Big Girl Bed now, but toward the end of her time in the crib I had a hard time laying her in the crib even with the side down. Luckily she goes down awake so I just stuck her in and told her to lay down.

NikosMommy, I can't wait to hear your news! Oh, and do you mind if I take over on the countdown? 4 more days until our big u/s!!! Actually, it looks like there are about 5 of us having ultrasounds this week - how exciting!

I am feeling the baby more and more these days. It seems so unreal to me because when I was pregnant with my DD I didn't feel her until I was well over 20 weeks along. I guess I just know what it feels like now so it is easier to tell.

Thanks for all the crib input- I think we are going to go with a crib that has a flip down side in the front- I guess about 12"-18" flips down from a klong hinge. It is made so it is impossible to pinch fingers- DH even stuck his finger in there and closed it (with his eyes closed!), but no pinching. It is a little more than I wanted to spend on a crib, but it also converts to a toddler and full size bed, so I guess we'll get our use out of it:-)

DS2003 and Lil Mrs 0702We are doing Pooh too- Thanks for the Target tip- I always forget they carry alot of Pooh stuff. Rooms-To-Go Kids has the cutest Pooh furniture for kids, we may get the dresser and mirror and let it double as the changing table for now- they even have a night table that looks like a tree stump- so cute :-) I was going to make some bedding, but I have found a couple people on ebay that have the Pooh toile I want and will custom make fairly reasonably, so I may go that route.

Yeah to everyone finding out the sex today!!

Hello All :D I'm here, I'm here - finally.

We got to the appt and they did make us sit through the genetic couseling but that only lasted about 15 minutes. He just wen through the family history, etc.

All night last night I kept thinking that they would tell me there were only 3 chambers of the heart. I'm not sure why, but I kept thinking that. I had 3 vivid dreams too that the u/s tech said it was a boy.

Well they did all the measurements and we asked to know the sex. In the middle of going from the abdomen to the legs, Brian says it's a boy. Well then the tech says it's a boy. A friend of mine had 3 u/s's done from this same place, all 3 said a boy and she gave birth to a little girl the weekend before I found out I was pg with Niko.
I asked her to check again and she said she was pretty sure it was a boy. I asked if the testicles looked ok and she said they hadn't dropped out of the abdomen yet, so I questioned her, to myself.

The dr came in and when he checked he said, "it's a boy, I think". So obviously by now we know this baby is shy :) He looked at the other major organs and said everything looked good. Then he started poking really hard and low and behold, there was the scrotum, it's a boy!!

We are in shock to say the least. Everything pointed to girl, the Chinese chart, the heartrate and everyone feeling a girl. We are happy though :D

We called Brian's dad and he sounded like he was going to cry. He's wanted a granddaughter for so long. He thought we were joking, but we weren't. He will love this baby no matter what, but I know he's a little disappointed.
We've decided that we will adopt a little girl in a year or two.

I'll be going for u/s's every 4 weeks and the biophysical profiles every week starting at 32 weeks. So we'll get to see a lot of this little guy in the coming weeks.
We don't have a name yet either. Now that we know it's a boy, we'll look through the book.

Thanks for putting up with my countdowns :D

Nikos - Congrats on your baby boy!!! :) How exciting!

Wow - our boy tally is really taking off!!!!

You know, I'll be very happy either way, boy or girl. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of rooting for a girl for us. :) Just so we could have that nuclear family: dad, mom, boy and girl. I'd love to have a little girl who I could dress up and grow her hair, etc... but at the same time, another boy would be really great -- a little playmate for Connor to play tools and cars and airplanes with. :)

When I was pg with Connor, my first intuition was a girl simply because I'd always thought I'd have a girl and only a girl - or two girls. I just could not fathom having a baby boy - a species that I really knew nothing about. I was a little disappointed upon finding out he was a boy, but that feeling went away after a day or so, and I refocussed, remembering that I had a baby who was developing correctly and appeared to be healthy and happy as he grew inside me. :) ANd now I can't imagine our household without the slew of little boy fingerprints all over the walls.

Congrats on another BOY, Niko. Brothers are so cute..

Just did the eye color test -- what fun! I came up with 92.5% chance of brown eyes, 5.5% for green and 1.8% for blue. I always joked that if we had anything other than a brown haired, brown eyed child I'd wonder if there was a mix-up. Guess I'm pretty on target!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts & prayers .... I am really glad they were able to get us in tomorrow for the u/s cause I would have byself worried to death if we had to wait any longer. I know I should not feel this way but I do ... I keep asking myself ...... what is something is wrong? why would my test not come out right? What if my baby is measuring really small or really big? The doctor warned me even before the test that about 3 out of 100 peoples test come back as a false positive. Oh well no responses needed on this .... I'm just venting.

18wks, 4 days

Hello fellow preggies! ;)

It's been a while since I've been around (blame it on the morning sickness), but now I'm back and hopefully will be more active on this thread. I see ALOT of BOYS so far which is awesome...I wonder who will break that streak.

U/S - Ours isn't scheduled until 1/24, so 15 more days. Booo! The wait seems to be getting longer and longer. I have a feeling we're having another BOY, even though everyone else wants us to have a GIRL. My mom has 7 grandsons and only 1 granddaughter right now, so she really wants GIRL. Ofcourse I will be happy for whatever we are blessed with. :)

Dreams - I've been having the most vivid dreams lately. They are all over the place. Most of them are just really weird. In some of them, I dream that I'm getting attacked or chased by someone but I'll wake up before they have a chance to get me. Anyone else having weird dreams?

Maternity clothes - Still not big enough to fit into my maternity clothese yet, but my clothes are getting pretty snug. I think I'll be in them within the next few weeks. The "twins" are HUUUUGE though! I went and bought a couple of new bras at Motherhood today and to my surprise, I went from a 36D to a 38E! (Waaaaa!) Atleast I'm more comfortable now and I'm not spilling out of my bra. :rolleyes:

Current Cravings:
*Tangerines
*Popcorn
*Cheedar Puffs from Trader Joe's - seriously, someone please take the bag away from me already. *oink-oink*

NikosMommy - Congrats on having another BOY. I think having 2 boys would be so cute. :)

sunshine - saying a prayer for a healthy u/s tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a GIRL.

Nikosmommy-Congrats on the boy, I too have been compulsively checking this board all day for you and then I got really busy at work. You get 2 boys too-OMG! There is way too much testosterone on this board. I could totally related to connorsmommy about always assuming I would have a girl and a best friend later on in life, but I am very excited about boy #2 now and just hope he is as affectionate and cute as #1! I got the same disappointed reaction from both grandmothers but I made it clear that they couldn't dwell on it because I would too. I have plenty of time to work on #3 anyway.....

Thank you all for your congrats :D

You know, I'll be very happy either way, boy or girl. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of rooting for a girl for us. Just so we could have that nuclear family: dad, mom, boy and girl. I'd love to have a little girl who I could dress up and grow her hair, etc... but at the same time, another boy would be really great -- a little playmate for Connor to play tools and cars and airplanes with.

I am happy, but will admit, I cried a little. We decided that we wouldn't try for another, no matter what, but now a part of me wants to try for that girl. But as we know, even if we do try, it's a 50/50 so we may be with 3 boys. So we'll look into the adoption road. On the same hand, I am so glad that Niko will have a brother to bond with. But I wanted my little girl. I am just so happy that everything is ok.

So I went through the baby name book I have and I wanted to go with an N name but couldn't find any I like :( So I picked out three but will continue my search. I have Alexandar, Benjimin & Dominik. I'm also leaning towards Robert (Brian's dads name) for a middle name.
I like Lukas too, but one of the moms in our play group has a son with that name and he has ADD/ADHD and (I hate to say this) is a wild child. I know that sounds horrible, but I just relate the two :/ There is also Braeden but you really can't shorten that. As you know I call Nikolas Niko so I'm looking for something I can shorten.
Christian is another name, but Brians best friend (also Niko's godfather) is named Christian and we have another friend named Christian. Although Brian doens't really care what I name the baby, he doesn't want it after someone we know.

I'm going to look into jbenny's baby name book. I want to see if there is anything in there with an N that might float my boat :D

And all my instincts say boy for myself too. :rolleyes: But congrats again! Glad everything went well and he showed the goods! :D

sunshine- I am keeping you in my thoughts. I had the AFP test, since our OB recommended it. IIRC they said there was a high incidence of false positives as it was merely a screening- so the odds are in your favor that things are going to be OK! I think there was a thread on WC where quite a few women shared that they had abnormal AFPs and normal pregnancies. I bet if you started a thread in Parenting you would get some responses to help reassure you...

shamocha17-How is your m/s going? Ugh on it affecting you so badly.

Sunshine-Hope the u/s goes well and that all is well.

connorsmommy-thanks for the reassurance re: belly growth. I'm glad to hear from others who've made it to 20weeks without needing to wear maternity clothes. Very nice to hear. :)

maryanne-Yeah on getting some good quality maternity clothes from Gap. I did an order from them (and Old Navy & Motherhood) a week or two ago and they're yet to arrive here but I'm glad to hear their stuff is good quality.

To everyone having u/s this week-if we make it through this weeks batch of u/s without one girl I will take that as confirmation of all the boy vibes I'm feeling for myself. :D

QTOD: What are you doing for diapers? Anyone going to try cloth? I'm pretty sure that we'll do mostly cloth. Not in the first 6 weeks though...too much to try and adjust to without adding a huge laundry load to the mix but I'm keen to try it for the most part.

Congrats Niko's Mommy on your 2nd boy!

And good luck sunshine on your u/s today - I hope everything looks good!!

This is a bit of a drive by post for me, and I'm not sure when I'll get to post for a while. If I haven't mentioned this yet, my husband and I are moving from NYC (where we've been for the last 6 years) to Denver, CO on FRIDAY!! So the movers are coming tomorrow to pack up. It's a bit insane on my end, but know that I'm lurking when I can and keeping my fingers crossed for everyone's upcoming u/s.

Also, had my last appointment with my OB here yesterday, and all seems to be right on track. We heard the heartbeat, which seemed nice and strong. And she mentioned that the u/s tech, who told us it was a boy, is pretty accurate, so we feel pretty confident now. I love this OB, and I'm so sad to not be able to see this pg through with her.

I hope everyone has a great week! I'll try to check in when I can...

First of all, thank you to all with the compliments on my belly. hehehe! Normally it just looks like a big ole' blob, but I think I was having a good hair day so it made my belly look cuter. LOL! ;)

Anyone else care to ante up a new belly shot? I want to see more bellies! :)

QTOD: What are you doing for diapers? Anyone going to try cloth? I'm pretty sure that we'll do mostly cloth. Not in the first 6 weeks though...too much to try and adjust to without adding a huge laundry load to the mix but I'm keen to try it for the most part.

Diapers -- I see us doing a combination of cloth and disposies. We'll do disposables with a newborn until they reach 10-11 lbs, and then I'll switch to cloth for at home and MAYBE when out running errands. Travelling, we'll switch back to disposies.

We did try cloth AIO's with Connor when he was about a year old, cloth diapering him part time for about 4 months. I liked doing it -- loved having less trash and spending less money on diapers every month (yeah, a big investment up front for $14 x 6 diapers), but I was able to resell them later for almost what I paid brand new!! Anyway, I would have kept up the p/t CDing but I returned to work shortly after starting CDing and I just couldn't do it anymore -- the dayhome wouldn't do cloth and so he'd only have 1 cd/day(evening), so it would be several days before I'd have a tiny load of laundry and by then, the diapers would just reek really bad from the toddler poops.

Although I gave it up with Connor, I knew I would be able to CD more efficiently and like doing it with a second child some day while I spend a year at home. Also, back in June, we had to replace our washer/dryer, so we went with a front-loading high efficiency pair from Maytag -- in part to make CDing a much more viable option (can run a load every 24-48 hours, no matter how small the load - meaning less stinky diapers laying around!)

Anyway, not sure of what dipes we're going with. I like AIO (all-in-one) systems, but they are the most expensive kind and I want to find a good brand. There is a diaper place here in Calgary called Diaper Depot that gives wholesale pricing on cloth dipes and a wide range of other baby products (Baby Banz sunglasses, Robeez shoes, etc), and I happen to have a 20% off entire purchase coupon with them so I plan on going this spring and probably buying my whole stash all at once!

All that being said, DH is not totally on board with CDing - he didn't like it last time b/c our 1 year old was such a big pee-er that he was leaking through his diapers a lot. (not to mention his poops were quite gross back then and were really disgusting to clean up, even with disposable diaper liners). So basically if I'm going to make the decision to CD, I need to be absolutely committed to making it work.

Diapers – We are cloth diapering. We made the decision over a year ago. I have a complete newborn stash and a pretty complete medium size stash. It was DH’s idea and I needed the convincing. I think it is the best choice for us and the environment. We plan to use disposables for long trips unless we become really comfortable with it away from home. We will use a combination of fitteds and prefolds. I have a few pocket diapers. There are day cares in CT that will take CD’ed babies, I just need to start looking.

Gina – I hope the moves goes smoothly.

Just a quick update.

I haven't been around due to illness- I've had 3-4 viral infections in the past 5 weeks, with only a day or two of feeling good in between. Hopefully the rest of the pregnancy will be healthy.

Had an appt today. I've gained 3 pounds total so far and the heartbeat sounded good. The doc asked me how far along I was. When I told him 16.5 weeks (like he should already know from my chart), he commented on how big I was:eek: . I'm only 5'1" and at a healthy weight pre-pregnancy, so how come he was so shocked????? He looked at me like I'm going to be HUGE.

Be back later to catch up and do some shout outs.

Gina Good luck with the move! I am about an hour north of Denver in Fort Collins. I probably don't know Denver well enough to be a huge help but I'll try if you need anything (like I am familiar with the zoo and the children's museum and downtown, and I work for a law firm in the Tech Center (but telecommute from home).)

Diapers Definitely disposable for me. I think cloth are cute, but they are too much of a time commitment for me. Also, since water is in short supply in Colorado, the environmental factors equal out based on studies I've read. Disposables head to the landfill, cloth require water/detergent/chemicals (services use chemicals). And finally, with 2 currently in diapers (R is in the midst of potty training), I can't really imagine 3 in dipes at the same time but I most likely will have since R probably won't be night dry for a while!

First of all, I just want to wish sunshine good luck with her appt. today. (I forgot to post that last night and was so upset when I remembered!)

Maryanne I LOVE the Gap Maternity clothes too. So far they've been my favorite in terms of quality, fit, etc.

gina Good luck with your move! I hear it's beautiful there.

shamocha re: dreams I'm having the most incredibly vivid --and nutty-- dreams too. Some involving baby, and others that are just plain strange. For instance, the other night I dreamed I was maternity clothes shopping with Angelina Jolie at Motherhood. (My hubby thought that one was a hoot!) We were trying on clothes together in the same fitting room, chatting like old pals. Very odd...

QOTD re: diapers We're definitely starting with disposables, just because my parents are buying a huge stash of them as a gift to us and they are free. Can't argue with free, but must admit I haven't looked into cloth enough either. Have to get on that...

Nikosmommy – I love the name Lucas, too – although spelled with a C. I would really like our baby to have an “L” name. Right now I’m stuck on Lucas if it’s a boy and Lauryn if it’s a girl.

Graffy & Ryan – isn’t it weird? The funny thing is that I could not stand drinking OJ unless it was diluted during the first few weeks because of my m/s. Now I find myself eating 3 or 4 tangerines a day…haha!

Astlrdec – actually, my m/s is completely gone. It went away during the week of Christmas, so I’m considering that my Christmas miracle. ;) It was pretty horrible though and a lot worse than when I was pg with my son. Thank God it’s over!

Jay&erin- I’m a shorty, too. I’m only 5 feet tall and I’ve already gained 6lbs. (Although I initially lost 8lbs due to my m/s) Personally, I think 3lbs so far is great! Not sure why your doctor thought that was a HUGE amount of weight gain. Hmmm….

Ffanel – I know! Isn’t it crazy? I’ve had a couple of really weird dreams too, some of them really bad though. Last night was the worst….I dreamt that we had a baby girl (premature) and that she wasn’t breathing and that DH was giving her CPR. Must have been b/c I was telling DH last night that I was a little bit worried about the baby. And I woke up crying and sweaty this morning. :(

Diapers – we thought about using cloth because they are so much better for the environment, but decided on disposable since they are just more convenient for us.

Cloth diaperers: So how may diapers do you need to start? And I know there are several different kinds- which are the easiest/best? and how much of a pain is it really to have to wash the diapers all the time? My sister and I were discussing this, and my mom said she had 144 diapers when I was a baby- Holy Moses thats alot :-) But I know todays diapers are much different, so I am interested in knowing realistically how many you need.
Thanks

diapers ~ Definitely disposables for us. DS will still be in diapers too and I have a terrible time keeping up at laundry. Plus, I'm squeamish about cleaning up poopy messes so throwing it away works best.

Dreams-I had one the other night where I was non-stop making out with Jack Nicholson in front of my husband in line in Target! It was hot and heavy and I really skeeve Jack so who knows what that was about. Hubby thinks I'm crazy.....:eek:

Jcharley/Cloth diapers – I’ve read that for a newborn you will need about 3 doz. It really depends on how often you plan to wash. You should estimate about 12 diaper changes a day. I will most likely wash every other day. If you decide to have separate diapers and covers instead of using All-In-Ones, it is recommended to have 6-8 covers. For the non-cloth diapering friends and family who may babysit I would recommend getting some All-In-Ones or pocket diapers to make it easier on them. They are one piece so you use them just like disposables except you don’t throw them out. The start up cost for cloth can be expensive, but in the long run it is cheaper in most cases and you can resell them once you are done with them. I can’t get myself to put used diapers (unused by me) on my child but there are many mothers who will.

Cracking up at everyone else's dreams! I also had one a few nights ago where I gave birth prematurely to a little boy (and in the dream *I* couldn't breathe during labor and had to wear an awful face mask) and he was born disfigured. It was just AWFUL. The worst part was everyone told me not to keep the child but instead to adopt a little girl another family had left behind at the hospital, so me and my husband did, only to run into our son years later when he was all grown. Our son had the same exact hands as me and I felt so terrible and guilty and wound up adopting him too. The dream made me feel so bad. You start to wonder what all these crazy dreams mean...

Jack Nicholson...too funny! And at Target? Even funnier!

Well ..... Miss baby b is measuring right on time. did yall notice what I just said? .... lol

Yep, IT IS A GIRL !!!!! woooohoooo .... I guess I am the 1st girl momma of the group - I broke the boy record ... ha ha

This was my dh's reaction ..... "Are you sure" Ultrasound tech said "well, do you see anything down there sticking up or out?" dh said nope sure dont. his reaction was priceless.

I have a pic but will have to post later since I am at work.

There were 2 markers for downs but the doctor said with my bloodwork there is a 1 in 350 chance that the baby will have downs. which did not seem that bad to me but he said with my age it should be 1 in 2000 - I am not going to worry about it & we have chosen not to get an amnio.

My next ultrasound is Feb. 2nd
