Does anyone have any suggestions for how to find dirt cheap travel for next day vacations? My DH and I have a chunk of time off over the holidays and I thought it might be fun to one day just decide to go somewhere for a few days. We can fly out of a major airport so that's no problem, but I'm just not sure how to find actual trips for the next day. Not picky about where we go, it's more about the adventure!
Wait! Am I trying to plan a spontaneous vacation??!!!

Sites like www.expedia.com and www.travelocity.com typically have last minute travel deals. Maybe check them out and even call them. You could even call a few airlines and see if they have any last minute travel deals out of your local airport and see where the lowest fare is to. Then, of course, you have to make sure you can get a hotel reservation. That sounds like fun. I wish we could do something like this.

You should sign up for email newsletters from Travelzoo. I've recently seen vacations to Europe for as low as $399/person including airfare and hotel.

In addition to what's listed, you can sign up for "cybersaver" fares from lots of major airlines, and they send you deals a few days in advance for travel the upcoming weekend; some airlines (like United) also include deals for the following weekend. If you have FF miles, last minute is a great time to use them - even over the holidays, you can usually catch a deal w/ them.

Thanks everyone!! I am using all of your ideas. Hopefully this works out and we can actually go somewhere over the holidays.

Sign up with all the major airlines that go through the nearest airport. I always get last minute deals via emails. The prices are often too good to be true but have to be used that coming weekend.
