Anyone? There were a handful of us before, and I am not sure who made it to the other side?

Hello Heidi!

Not quite a Granite Stater, but I thought I'd say hello anyway. I live in Maine, so I'm not too far from you! My old college roommate grew up in Amherst, actually. I'm sure more people will show up as the word gets out over there about these boards!

Hi there ptcrn! What a small world! Amherst is a lovely town. I moved here from Boston last year... total culture shock but this place really made it worth while...higher quality of living and much less congestion (sans the cold new england winter.)

I've been to Maine a few times...Ogunquit and Old Orchard Beach. It really is such a pretty state. I love the ocean!

I'm a Granite State girl! I recognize your name from the NH boards at the other site. (I was Tracie61 there) I live in southern NH, too. Amherst is a lovely town.

I moved up from Boston 2 months ago. Love my house and the area, but hate the commute to Boston!

Hi Tracie! Glad to see you joined CC! What are you doing for the 4th of July? I think we are going to see the Manchester fireworks with my sister, as she lives in Manch. Nothing too exciting, but honestly I am just hoping to relax this weekend!

I moved up from Boston 2 months ago. Love my house and the area, but hate the commute to Boston!

I did the commute to Boston for a little over 6 months until I found a job in N.H. (yep, six months of searching, too) I work in marketing which is harder to find here in NH anyway vs. Boston.

DH still does the commute (to Quincy, can you believe it!) but won't be going that far south for long...he will be transfering to the Lowel office, which isn't nearly as bad as a commute from Amherst.

Heidi-I can't believe your DH goes all the way to Quincy! Does he work off hours? I commuted to Quincy from Derry about 12 years ago, but I worked 10-6 and it only took about an hour because I was missing most of the traffic.

I work in investment management. The only thing up here seems to be Fidelity. I got a call when I first moved up here for a similar job to what I am doing now, but the pay cut was 20-30k. Right now after spending 3-4 hours in the car each day the pay cut actually sounds pretty good!

I think my next-door neighbor does the commute to Boston. I don't think I'd be able to stand it at all! My commute's only within New Hampshire, and that's enough for me.

I don't know what we're doing for the 4th. I heard talk of a cook-out in the neighborhood but I haven't heard anything recently. DH isn't really into fireworks, so I don't think I'll be able to convince him to go to any. I am going down to Mass to my dad's for a cook-out/beach day tomorrow, though.

Another MA to NH transplant here, Lived here 4 years, and I did the Portsmouth NH to Quincy commute myself for about 6 months before i got my current job, Now my commute is about 10 seconds, as i landed a telecommuting job in the same industry i had been in for 12 years, Been as this job for 3 1/2 years, my wardrobe has seriously declined, but other than that its been great.

Hi all! I grew up in Hudson and Nashua until I moved to MA in '86. Can I still be counted as a Granite State girl? Is dual stateship allowed? :p

I'm not a stalker when I ask this...is your username a hint of where are you from? If so, I have been on that road many times. I don't want to give too much away for you on here, but I used to work off that road.

Thanks Heidi! There are times when I still do miss NH. My mom has a wonderful friend who used to live in Amherst. Her house was AWESOME and I remember exploring her house when I was a little girl and thought that one day I'd move there when I was a grown-up....but alas, I'm here in MA! :p

I know this thread has been dead for a couple of months, but I thought I would push it up a bit just to see how many people are still around.

I'm a newbie, to the board and to the state.

I am in Amherst, N.H. Where are you from? It is snowing this morning pretty heavy...not looking forward to the drive into work this morning (I work in Nashua.)

I'm in Manchester. We moved here in August. My fiancee is from NH (he grew up in Londonderry).

*laughs* Luckily I am working from home, so my commute isn't horrible at all.

(I say that b/c I don't have anywhere to be this morning!)

*giggles* I had to resist the urge to frolic in the snow on the sidewalk in front of our apartment this morning. It was just calling for it.
It is a really nice beautiful snow.

I'm still here, too! You ladies that didn't have to go anywhere are really lucky - my commute was extremely hellish this morning! But now that I'm back home safe and sound and away from traffic, it is quite pretty!

My sister and her husband live in Manchester, right near Elm Street, Their apartment is near Strange Brew. One of my favorite restaraunts in Manchester is Cotton. Have you ever been there? They make great martinis/food!

Nope, I've never heard of it. We'll have to check it out sometime. Sadly we don't go out to eat much, because FI works overnights, so scheduling is a pain. Although we do get out some on the weekends.

We went to the Brazillian Steakhouse....Gauchos..... recently and that was INCREDIBLE!!!!! It was extremely affordable (as long as you didn't get any alcoholic drinks...our alcohol bill came to more than our food and it was just the two of us) and was just a great concept.

:)

Heidi9771
01-24-2006, 05:23 AM
Smilin13, I have definitely heard of Gauchos, but since I am a vegetarian, probably won't make it there anytime soon. ;)

What do you do for work? That is awesome that you are able to work from home.

Smilin13
01-24-2006, 08:07 AM
Ah yes, being a vegetarian would not be a good thing at the steak house.

Yes it is nice to work from home, although it will probably be changing soon. I actually hate my job. I'm a case manager/social worker for a local agency. I've only been working here for about 5 months now, but I've realized it isn't for me. So I'm on the job hunt again. WOowhoo.

We saw Cotton the other day. It looks like a neat place. FI thought it looked really interesting.

We'll probably be checking it out sometime soon.

I've heard that Cotton is excellent, but I haven't made it there myself. Mainly because I also heard it's on the expensive side.

It is pricey, which is why we only go on rare occassions! Bummer for us because I love the food there (and the martinis more) ;)

Thank you so much!!! You are so sweet!

To celebrate my birthday, last night DH took my to Toro in Milford. The food was okay but very overpriced. It was fun to try something new though.

Turned the big 2-9 (last year in my twenties!) I don't really fret about age that much, at least not now. Ask me again when I am 30....:p

Thanks again for thinking about me!

manchester dining....Chiming in late on Cotton - I wasn't too impressed by it. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was not what I would imagine for the price. I dunno, call me a food snob.....;-) I still haven't found a FABULOUS restaraunt in manchester and we eat out a couple times a week. I have heard Jewel in the Beanstock is good and want to check it out soon:-) Any other suggestions?

Hi Ladies,
Just checking in on our sad, little quiet board :)

There is a meet up social group called The Concord Women's Social Meetup Group (http://women.meetup.com/110/) (you don't have to live in Concord, and meet ups seem flexible to be held in Manchester, etc.)

There is a meetup (first one, actually) for brunch this sunday in the process of being planned. Since it is the first meeting, and everyone would first start to get to know each other, I thought I would put it out for anyone who wants to join/attend (joining is free.)

Hi from Vermont!

I live right on the VT/NH border and go to school in NH. DH and I moved here in August '05 from Georgia. I am enjoying the experience so far (having 4 distinct seasons is pretty amazing!).

I know there isn't much traffic in here but I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to visit a friend and her kids in NH. She is visiting her parents and we want to meet half way (which would be in Concord or Manchester).

Any good meeting place? There will be 3 kids involved (almost 4 year old, 2 year old and a 3 month old).

Somewhere pretty close to the main highway would be best.

Any suggestions would be welcome! We'd probably aim to meet mid morning and have lunch. Somewhere that we could hang out and then either have lunch there or drive somewhere, would be great.

thanks!

Hi ladies...quick question...anyone else getting completely harassed by gazillions of phone calls from political organizations and survey companies inquiring about your views on the politicians? I believe this is because of the N.H. primary coming up, and the need to gather as much info as possible.

It is getting ridiculous. I don't mind answering a few polling questions, but we are getting about 5 of these calls a night. We never give our phone number out to any organization, so I have no idea how our number is getting on the calling lists...GRRRRRR.

Yes, I was at my parents' house over Christmas, and the calls just never stopped. I used to be registered in NH, so they get calls for the 2 of them, for me, for my brother... it's insane. But it will all be over in less than a week :).

I didn't realize that by registering, our phone number was eligible for all those calls. Gah! Lame! I can't wait to vote, and also for the calls to stop. :p
