View Full Version : Have you ever gotten a crown (dental)?

I had a root canal done about 5 years ago. Recently, whatever they had put on the tooth (it wasn't a full crown, they did something to just the end of the tooth) chipped. So I just got the permanent crown.
They put the crown in last Thursday. Since then, I've had some achy-ness in that general area. It hurts (almost like a toothache) to bite down.
Is this normal?

I wasn't comfortable eating on that side for about a week. I had my root canal on one day, they stuffed medicine in there on that day. I came back 2 weeks later for a temp. crown, which HURT, and then the permanent one two weeks later.
I'm not sure if it was normal or not - but I now can eat on that side just fine! Call your dentist and ask! :D Good Luck!

Thanks mrstim :) I'll give it a few more days and see how I feel. It's so not convenient for me to "stop by" his office, and I'm sure that is what he will say to do. It doesn't hurt all the time, so I'm hoping its just one of those getting used to it things.
Sigh. I hate dental work!!!

Beth,
I have so many crowns, I should be royalty. The pain you've described sound completely normal. If it doesn't go away after two weeks, you should definitely contact the dentist. Until then, stock up on some Ibuprofen.
Sorry for the ouchies and the $$$. They're not cheap.
Good luck,
Allie

Thanks for the advice :) It's still a little tender in that area...but getting better day by day!!
I couldn't believe how much the crown cost! Thank God for dental insurance :)
