I could pop in the SF Bay Area - it's only about an hour away - but I wanted to see if there were some local gals around!

wow -- pretty close!! Major cross streets in Orangevale? I used to live right by Sunrise Mall, so I know Orangevale fairly well! Are you gals ready for the heat wave coming in?
I just got back from the muggy east coast. Makes you really appreciate our dry heat.
DH and I just bought Sea Doos so we welcome the heat for that reason too. Folsom Lake, here we come!!! :D

I live off of Walnut and Madison. Grew up in Orangevale and then bounced among Roseville, Fair Oaks, and Folsom but seemed to have ended back in Orangevale.
So when will be the first CCer get together? :D

Not a 'sacramento girl' to be exact, but close enough. I live in Chico, about an hour and a half north of Sac... Howdy to all you local ladies :D
Hey HeatherH I think I remember lurking in your journal back on the other site. I got married in August of 2004. I was too chicken to post back then. Hope all is well in newlywed land.
Nice to meet you PinkMartini besides loving your name (I NEED ONE NOW!!) I have spent a lot of time in Chico of late. The racetrack to be exact. Just supporting the DH

Oh cool! Well congrats on reaching your 1-year anniversary! I'm almost there too! Where did you get married?
We got married in Lake Tahoe. It turned out pretty nice given I really didn't know what I was doing and had a horrible wedding planner. But I'm over it, can't you tell.

Welcome Amanda...I thinked I lurked in your journal too since my wedding was in August.
Welcome back to California although it looks like you may not be staying long?

It all depends. There is basically a dream job up for grabs in L.V., and the salary is higher for police there, too. (DH is going to become a police officer.) But, I am a Cali girl at heart, and I love it so much. Who knows, it's a toss up. :o
I saw on the news this morning that the City of Elk Grove is hiring a ton of police officers.
They say the pay is "competitive" but I'm not sure what that means.

I currently live in the East Bay and will most likely be moving to Sacramento soon. DH has a job prospect there. I have been to Sacramento once and fell in love with the tree lined neighborhoods. I would love to hear from the locals and see what other great features that Sacramento has.

There is another Sacramento thread that I see that a lot of girls have posted so I wanted to give you a link to it.
http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=941&page=1
I was just to go and introduce myself in that thread but thought that I would stop off and say hi here as well.
I hope that you like Sacramento...I was born and raised here and we love it.
The great thing about Sacramento is that it is growing growing growing. All the great restaurants are coming here (Ruth's Chris) and all the great business are coming here as well (Ikea). Also we love being halfway inbetween Tahoe and San Fran. You can't beat it.
I hope that you DH gets the job.

Hello ladies!
I currently live in the East Bay and moving to Sacramento Feb. 5th! I am originally from Southern California. I am so glad to see that there is a Sac thread here. We will be moving to the Mc Kinley park area. I am so excited to get out the bay area!
~Renee~
Hey Kelly and Renee.
We probably should try and get this thread moving a bit more!!
Renee I'm pretty sure I've "stalked" (we have got to come up with a better word for that!) your journal in the past because you are a nurse and are in NorCal. I'm also in the health care industry (Planning).

I think that I like the term "lurker" a little better. It all kinda sounds creepy, but at least we can talk out in the open. LOL. I am a labor and delivery nurse. I will be working at Kaiser when we move. I am really excited about moving. I will need to know all the good restaurants and I need a good hairdresser as well!!
~Renee~
You're in the right neighborhood for good restaurants. We've had a boom of new cool restaurants open downtown/midtown. I rarely get to partake since I'm in El Dorado Hills. I work in midtown, not too far from McKinley park.
I'd be glad to help with any other tips when you need them!

How cool that you are a L&D nurse. Which Kaiser? I had my baby girl at Morse in March. WOW...I can't believe its almost been a year. Time flies when your having fun.

That is the one. How did you feel that your experience was? They are going to be moving to a new facility in 2008. It will be in Roseville. The only thing that I am not looking forward to is moving those beds from room to room. The hospital where I am currently has LDRs (labor, delivery, and recovery room all together).
~Renee~
~Kelly~
01-25-2006, 01:51 PM
I think that overall my experience was good and bad. Nurses were phenomenal and the doctors were good. Its just hard to have rotating doctors with all different opinions of what to do. I wish my OB would have delivered me, she is absolutely amazing. I just love her so much, she truely has been the best doctor I ever had.
The bad was that I ended up having a c/section under general anesthetic so you my recovery was long and horrible. But the nurses put me in a post partum room right next to their station so they were right there if I needed anything.
I can see how moving the beds would be HORRIBLE. The doors from the labor rooms to the nurses station on your way to the labor room are so small. And then the nurses station is so tiny. I would feel like I was right on top of everybody.
Just as an fyi....Kaiser Morse (from my experience) has gotten an extremely bad rap. A lot of people will tell you to go and deliver at the Kaiser in South Sac because it is updated. But I always recommend Morse because I feel like even though I had a bad labor experience is was not due to the facilities, the doctors or the nurses.
I have my birth story written out somewhere. I should reread it and see what my initial reactions to the hospital stay were.
Sorry to write such a novel. I guess I need to get to figure out when will be having #2 so that I can deliver at Morse again since it's about 10 minutes away.
Sorry to write such a novel. Hope that helps you.
Or you could deliver at Sutter Memorial!
:D Just kidding...guess which system I work for.
And you know I'm kidding because while I've heard SMH has wonderful doctor's and nurses...it's a pit! But we're working on building a new one.
~Kelly~
01-25-2006, 09:46 PM
That's too funny. What do you do for Sutter?
Is SMH the one near the downtown galleria? I always get those mixed up.
That would be Sutter GENERAL located near the Galleria. I work in that neighborhood in the Regional office doing Planning & Business Development.
Sutter MEMORIAL (SMH) is another couple of miles away from town. Sutter General and Sutter Memorial are really ONE hospital (Sutter Medical Center Sacramento) spread out on two campuses for now. Babies are born at SMH.

Planning and Business Development that sounds like interesting work. Do you enjoy it?

I work for Sutter right now, but am leaving the Sutter system to go to Kaiser. Kaiser had a much better offer for me. I interviewed at the Sutter hospital out there, but didn't care for it. Just didn't get a good feel for it. I am thinking that when we get pregnant I want to try and deliver at the other hospital because I don't want the people that I work with getting that intimate with me, LOL.

~Renee~
OH my....I never thought of that. Yeah. Definitely want to keep the coworkers away from that area. HA HA HA.
If you are looking for a great OBGYN...mine is absolutely fabulous. Her name is Dr. Rebecca King and her office is located on Fair Oaks Blvd inbetween Howe and Fulton.
I don't know if this is close to where you will be living but I thought that I would put it out there.
But I guess she might be considered a coworker so that might not help.
BryantRN
01-29-2006, 09:23 AM
I don't mind the co-worker Doc thing, but the co-worker nurse thing is a little different. If I could come back to my current hospital to deliver I would because I totally trust all of them and wouldn't mind being that intimate, but there is no way to do that! Oh well, I guess I will just get over it:). We will be living in McKinley park area so I have no idea what is close or not. I really don't know anything about the area yet. The move is next Sunday!!!!!
~Renee~
Good luck on the move.
Absolutely know where you are coming from on the coworker thing. It's really hard in our industry. I used to have a doctor out of the system but I've since found some Sutter docs I really love including an OB/GYN who is the best. (I'm TTC too!)
But it's kinda creepy knowing some of the people I work with can look up my entire health record.
~Kelly~
01-29-2006, 09:38 AM
The McKinley park area is so nice. You will love it. My hubby used to work over there and he loved it. There are a lot of great restaurants and shops just down the street from you on Fair Oaks.
My OB is about 5 miles (give or take) away from your general area.
(I'm TTC too!)
Good luck with TTC. I hope that you have a short and successfull journey.

Hello everyone.
Just wanted to update you all and tell you that the move went well. We have been exploring the city and getting used to our new location. We really love it here so far. Much better of a fit than the bay area. It really does remind me of So Cal also:). I start my new job on the 21st. I am a little nervous. It is hard getting to know another hospitals procedures and even getting to know the docs. OB docs usually are really short with you until they feel that they can trust you and then it is all good!! Wish me luck. I won't really be on the floor until the 26th. The first four days is hospital orientation. BORING!! Hope everyone is staying warm!!!
Welcome Roxygirl!

Does anyone have any hairdresser suggestions for me? I need a cut and highlights. I am clueless about who to go to in the area.

I get my hair cut and color at Pavilions Salon And Spa just down the way from you.
Its pricey but I have been going there for awhile and really like all the girls there. The are a cute close knit bunch.
BryantRN
02-27-2006, 12:38 PM
Where exactly is the place, and what is pricey?
Thanks
~Renee~
~Kelly~
02-27-2006, 12:49 PM
I think that I paid around a 100 for the highlight and then my hair cut is usually around 45ish. Don't quote since its been awhile since I have been there.
You can go in and pick up a price list. If I am in the general area in the near future I will drop in and pick one up to confirm the prices. The lady that gives facials had a baby a while back and I haven't gone in and congratulated her. She did the make up for my wedding. I will let you know.
But there are a lot of great places around. I have been to Mosaics Salon on Fulton but they also have on on J street.
I am sure that some others will also have some great recommendations for you.
I love my person but she's not located ANYwhere near you. Heck she's not located anywhere near ME!! Also in the same price range as Pavillions.
She is awesome at color. I get so many compliments. We have fun with cuts too!!
She is in Granite Bay which is about 30 miles east on 80 from you. At a salon called Zimbali.

Thanks for all the tips. I don't think I want to go quite that far Ktsb. I will check out those places you listed Kelly. If you get that price list let me know. I was paying more than that for my cut and color in Berkeley so $145 is not bad. I would love to pay less, but I want to make sure that I get someone good. Not looking for Supercuts or Fantastic Sams quality, LOL.

Don't make a special trip on my account. If you aren't already going there don't worry about it. I can always call them and ask myself. I appreciate the offer . The rain is killing me also. I love walking in the park and it has been too rainy and muddy for my comfort. Have fun getting ready for the party. Do you have a theme?

We go past it all the time so next time I am around there. Usually I am stopping in at Chipotle (YUM YUM)
We are having a ladybuy party, we have her dress and everything. Just need to order the balloons and decorate. Can't wait. A week from tomorrow.
