Can anyone help me identify these flowers? I think maybe they're peonies and something else? Thanks!

the flowers are all peonies - just some of them are blown (open) and some of them aren't. I'm not sure what the leaves are.

Thanks Karen. I've never really been aware of peonies before, but I've really come to like them in searching through pics recently (for my wedding, which is NEXT Sunday and for which I still have no flower decision!).

peonies are only available in the springtime. So unless you're willing to pay and arm and a leg to have them shipped from somewhere that specially grows them...
You can do a search for seasonal flowers on google, it will definitely help you decide.

And THAT was the question I was afraid to ask! Truthfully, I don't mind paying for out-of-season flowers -- my wedding is so small and I need so few that it won't really be a big deal -- but I'm not certain if the person getting them for us has access to anything but what's typically around at this time of year. Guess I need to talk to him asap...

Actually they are different kinds of peonies too. I grow those ones as a matter-of-fact (the shaggy ones I mean)!

AH--that explains it! Any idea what either is called? (I know that's a long shot!)

Hi Ten -
I found a site that has pics of many varieties of peonies. I now want to plants lots more types after looking at all the beautiful flowers!

Hope this helps.

Wow! Yes, that is very helpful! Though there might be TOO much info there... ;) I can't believe how different some of the varieties look from each other, as if there were completely different species (I think that's the right word here...)

I don't know if sweetniti515 is on CC but she still has a WC journal (http://boards.weddingchannel.com/thread.jspa?threadID=470518&tstart=0). She is using off-season peonies and IIRC they were rather expensive.

Alas... no peonies to be found in my area at this time of year. I suppose if I'd planned far in advance, I probably could have found someone who could get them for the right price, but I'm planning for this Sunday. Since I'm having such a small wedding and therefore very few flowers, I wasn't worried about ordering too far in advance. Oh well--I have one guy working on hydrangeas and roses in creams and pinks for me with some stock and greenery for centerpieces ... I'll find out tomorrow if he can get the hydrangeas.
I guess I'll just have to plan for a summer party sometime and have peonies then... ;)
