I was just putting lotion on my 9 wk DD and noticed a lump on the back of her neck. It moves a little when you touch it (if that makes sense). Does anyone know what this could be? Her dr. is out of town today but she has her 2 month appt tomorrow. I am just looking for some info to ease my mind until then.
Thanks so much!
My DS has these on either side of the base of his neck -- I think they're lymph nodes. A lump on the middle front of the neck could be a type of cyst that has to be removed, but what you're describing just sounds like normal nodes. Let us (ok, me!) know what the ped says tomorrow!

My daughter had something that sounds very similar - it ended up being a condition called Torticollis - which isn't a big deal. Does your dd lean her head even slightly to one side all the time
Of course - they did a bunch of rounds of tests to rule out really bad stuff like lymphoma.
I would suggest getting in to see your Ped asap though - because if it is torticollis - you should start doing exercises right away.
Good luck - I hope it isn't anything!
(edited to add - I misread that you're seeing your ped tomorrow - that is definately early enough! I hope I didn't startle you!)

I felt a lump on my newborn's neck too and I asked her pediatrician about it and she said it was a lymph node too! I wouldn't worry about it.

I am just bumping this up because I found a pea-sized lump on the back of DS's neck last night (like 2 inches under his ear and toward the middle).
Tiger is this where your DC's was?
AttyGrl Cole does lean his head to the right all of the time and in fact, at his 2 mo. appt last week the dr showed us exercises to do to try to encourage him to use his left side. The bump is on the back of the left side of his neck. I wonder if that's what it could be?
Anyway, he is acting his normal self, no fever, etc. We have an appt for Monday, but I just wanted some reassurance that everything's probably ok. :)

That does sound a lot like what DD had. DD still has a small lump, but it isn't as big. Our dr. said it was just a lymph node.
I wouldn't worry too much!
