Which music CD's do you recommend for babies? Which CD's do you not like? I'm mostly looking for CD's for an infant (soothing music), but would love to hear recommendations on all types of music for little ones (soothing, upbeat, etc.). Thanks in advance!

ETA: I searched and found one thread on CD's, but it was about music mother and baby can dance to.

for older babies/toddlers, my sisters both really like Justin Roberts. His songs are silly but sung in a sort of folksy way that is a little less painful for adults to listen to.

I just ordered 2 They Might Be Giants cds for Nora for Christmas - she seems to like their music anyway - so I thought it might be fun!

Raffi - Baby Baluga and Rise and Shine in that order.

Traditional lullabies by twin sister production - love that it is a full 60 minute.

Beatles lullabies - I may have the name wrong but it is instrumentals of soothing beatles songs. I find it a bit annoying sometimes though because I start to sing and the instrumental is a bit diffenent so you really can't sing to it. But it is fine for leaving DS alone to sleep with, just not for rocking him down while I listen.

Not for kid only - Jerry Garcia

Country music for children - Tom Hall

Bethoven's wig - though DH says the word will drive him crazy if I buy this- we have it out of the libary now

Yoyo ma playing Bach cello solos - 2 cd set I forget the name- not a kids music per say but we use it for sleep time quite alot.

Mommy and Me II - I don't have the first so I can't comment on it. It annoyed me a bit at first but now I am fine with it. I try to avoid cds with kids actually singing when I can, the high pitched voices get on my nerves after awhile.

More for older kids but we also like Big Trouble by Trout fishing in America

We got the They Might Be Giants "Here Come the ABCs" cd based on some WC recommendations. I can't say that we like it. My husband finds the "C is for Conifers" song particularly annoying.

His favorite (DH) is Raffi's Singable Songs.

My favorite is a set of 3 cds called 123 Songs for Kids or something like that which has 123 songs, most of which I was familar with.

My DS is 17 mo old and his favorite are Chevelle, Audioslave & Red Hot Chile Peppers. Really, I'm not kidding. When he was an infant we tried like mad to get him to listen to soothing music that we received as gifts (The Mozart Baby Einstein & 2 other lullaby CD's) but he would just not settle down. Around 3 mos my brother bought a few rock concert DVD's (see above) & he was mesmerized by them. Now I have to watch/listen to one of the above concerts at least once a day. For awhile we were watching or listening to the Chevelle concert 4 times per day---it was a bad teething experience & this is all he'd relax too. I guess it could be worse....

I suppose that my sharing is so you experiment with many types of music. You might be surprised at what your DC will enjoy most.

We love Justin Roberts too...we have Great Big Sun. Great lyrics, sounds a little like James Taylor.

We also Like Lisa Loeb's Catch the Moon CD.

Noah sleeps to the Baby Einstein Lullaby Classics.

His other favorites (Noah is VERY particular about his music) are Laurie Berkner (we're currently jamming to Victor Vito), The Best of Elmo (OMG, that CD is so annoying after the 73rd consecutive time, but he loves it), anything Sesame Street, Dan Zanes (if he's in the right mood), and anything Sandra Boynton.

The Sandra Boynton and Dan Zanes are probably my faves.

Oh I forgot philladelphia chickens by sarah Boynton because we have played it in awhile, great CD if you like show tunes. We all enjoy that one, though DS likes to just here the cows verse over and over and will hit the cd button to make it start over and over.

DD also loves Laurie Berkners Victor Vito. I swear I just start singing that song and she stops crying! I also really like Ralph's World Under the Sea. Fun songs that we like singing.

Something you might want to try is your public library. I found a bunch of artists and CD's that I wanted to try and requested them. We listened to them, and it helped us to find which CD's DD like best. That is how we found Victor Vito! and its free!!!

We have a couple of Fisher Price CDs (Dance, Baby, Dance which is sort of techno and Sing Along Favorites which has your typical kid songs) that DS loves rocking out to. We also have the Baby Einstein collection. For lullabies we have the Beatles lullaby CD and a Wiggles one that we don't really put on that often. The Beatles are played almost every night. :)

For soothing music, we listen to Baby Einstien Lullabyes or Enya.
As for fun music, we love Raffi: Singable Songs and my personal favorite Peanut Butter and Jelly This one was so hard to find b/c it's just a little group that I saw when I worked in daycare. I finally found the CD at makinmusic.com DS and I love it!
I have Laurie Berkner on my list of must gets.

DS likes to listen to:

Warm & Tender by Olivia Newton-John - This isn't new but I picked it up because Olivia has such a beautiful voice. Songs are geared more towards girls (She dedicated it to her daughter) but DS likes the lullabies and he likes to unwind to Olivia in the car! :)

Dedicated to the One I Love by Linda Ronstadt - Beautiful voice, nice soothing songs.

Miracles by Celine Dion - Another beautiful voice, nice songs!

DS also likes listening to the Baby Einstein cd's!

We discovered this CD at my DD's Gymboree class & preschool. "Animal Action" is our favorite song. She loves imitating all the animals as we sing along. All of the kids in my DD class go nuts for Animal Action. It's a very catchy song. Another favorite song on the CD is the freeze song.

Bumping this thread

DD is addicted to music this thread helps me a LOT! DH has no suggestions because kids music drives him crazy  DD and I are home a lot and I like to play different CDs throughout the day for DD. TIA!!!

We have 2 of the Laurie Berkners and DD loves them. DD has Philadelphia Chickens by Sandra Boynton and loves it as well, does anyone have the other version? I think its called "Rhinoceros Tap" Is it any good?
Also, if you use music at bedtime, what do you play? We use Chopin: Favorite Piano works by Vladimir Ashkenazy. I'd like to buy some more classical music and any recommendations would be great!!!
