I am beyond disgusted with my face that everytime I look in the mirror I want to cry. I have always had good skin my whole life but all of a sudden it got bad. The only place I get pimples is my chin and it seems once they go away they always come back and they come back in the same spot. They are not just small pimples either they are zits which makes it harder for me to cover them up. I use Aveeno face wash and I have been to a dermatologist and he gave me Differin gel which helps with scarring from the pimples but it doesn't make them go away. I go for facials like once a month and that isn't helping either. I also use tea tree oil and toothpaste when they are really big to make them smaller. I don't know what else to do but I am so disgusted and my wedding is now 2 months away and I don't want to have huge zits on my chin. I am so sick of having to pile on the cover-up everyday and I know people notice too like my mother will comment on why all of a sudden I am breaking out like this which doesn't help. I don't think its hormonal because I have been on the same BC for years now and I use the same make-up everyday, I did switch to Bare Minerals for about a month but that didn't help so I am back to using my old stuff. I'm seriously starting to think about getting cortizone shots or something because I don't know what to do anymore. I don't break out anywhere else but my chin and when I do get zits they take forever to go away!!! Can anyone give me advice or sympathize with me??? I could really use it. Thanks

This is just a little idea that helped me alot. Make sure that you use alcohol wipes and consistantly keep wiping down your phone mouthpiece. I break out alot on my chin and my dermatologist recommended this. I helped me alot because I am on the phone alot both work and personally. I was jsut transferring grimey face dirt to my chin and rubbing it in with the phone.
Plus I love the philosophy porducts for acne prone skin and Proactive. Both really helped me as I had pretty bad acne. I do sympathize with you. I know its tough to deal with.
This may not be much help, but its a thoght!

ITA w/dragonfly28602 - with chin breakouts, the phone is usually the cause. If you use the phone a lot at work, is there a way you can get a headset instead. Also, be conscious of where you put your hands/fingers (ie do you touch your chin a lot?).

I agree with both these ladies. I have breakouts on occasion that are due to: touching my chin(bad habit), resting my chin in hand(not good because our hands are always dirty and oily), and not cleaning my cell/work phone. I have my own phone in my office but once in awhile if I need to use someone elses, I've noticed I'll breakout if I don't wipe it down beforehand. Kinda gross, huh? I don't care if people think I'm anal or weird about cleanliness, I hate breaking out!

I keep a tube of those Lysol anti-bacterial cleaning wipes in my desk. Not only am I constantly cleaning my phone, keyboard, mouse, desk area...but if my hands get grimy, I use the wipes fast before I have a chance to accidently touch my face.

Yes, definitely make sure you keep your phone clean...or try not to press it against your face at all.

Also, be sure to change/wash your pillow cases at least once a week.

Try not to touch your face...at all. I have a habit of always touching my face.

Lisa777 -- Are you by any chance in your late 20's or just turning 30? I ask because that seems to be an age where many women's skin changes. I know mine did. I hit 27, and all of a sudden my chin was breaking out like crazy. I tried the Aveeno stuff, which helped a little, but I've found that the Murad Acne Complex has made my skin almost perfect. I started using it a year and a half ago, and my skin's never been better.

So, if the other ladies' suggestions don't help, I'd say that Murad might be something for you to try.

MLA,
I am 25 soon to be 26 next month and I swear once I hit 25 my face and my body changed. Before 25 I had perfect skin and now its a mess and I know its also related to stress too. I have tried proactive and it made me break out into a terrible rash all over my face so I can't use it anymore. I do clean my phone at work and my cell phone occasionally but maybe I should start doing that everyday.

Along with telephones, I've heard that chin breakouts are frequent hormonal. I usually only breakout just before my period and they're frequently around my chin.

Some products that have helped me are a gentle cleanser (Neutrogena's Extra Gentle Cleanser), a BHA product - Beta Hydroxy Acid (I like Paula's Choice) and moisturizer (still searching for one that I love!!).

Lisa777, I could have written that exact same post about my own face/chin! :(

I hardly ever clean my phone at my desk (icky, now that I think about it), but since so many people are suggesting that that is a good place to start, maybe I'll give it a try.

As for your situation, I'd say go see your dermotologist again. I was going to one during the months leading up to my wedding last year, & she told me at my last visit about a month before the big day that if I got any major breakouts the last week or so I could come in & get a cortizone shot to zap them away. Obviously that's not a good day-to-day solution to the overall problem, but it might be a good quick-fix for a special occasion like your wedding. ;)

Good luck!

I agree with the other ladies, start with cleaning your phone at work and home. I now do mine every other day at work. I was breaking out really bad due to stress and I started doing that and it helped but not enough. I've been using Differin for a while now, it helps occasionally. I finally resorted to Proactive, I've been using it for a month now and guess what??? Very few break outs, just one or two and that's it. My face has cleared up tremendously. The down side is you have do the treatment twice a day, I do mine in the AM and PM. If I am extremely tired in the PM I will skip but I never skip two nights in a row. I'm a believer in Proactive now, until my face gets use to it and I have to find something else. It cost from $40 - $60 depending on what you get but the supply last for 2 months. I think Neutrogena makes a acne therapy treatment system, which could be cheaper than Proactive. Neutrogena runs about $30.

Good Luck!!!!!!
