Charting Our Course to the BFPs
http://www.ripleysorlando.com/images2/fertilitystatues.jpg
The fertility statues are known to work for some who rub them around the time of possible conception.
It is said that the baby is the most potent part of the statue.
So rub away! :D It's worth a shot!
Who we are:
This is a group of women using charting (temperatures, CM, CP, OPK/FM results, or a combination of these) to try to conceive and, along the way, are learning a heckuvalot about their own bodies! Many of us use a software program to keep track of our charts as well as allowing us to share them with each other. The most common ones are FertitlityFriend.com and Ovusoft.com.
Your threadmistresses for this thread are Polkadot and Sabriel!
To our members:
This thread gets very busy at times, so in order to keep things less overwhelming and a bit more organized, we start a new thread each month as well as after 3 BFPs. A link to the new thread is always posted at the end of the current thread to help everyone find their way over. The threadmistress would really appreciate it if everyone would post their updates in Red. That way, if I get a bit behind, it is much quicker to get the thread up-to-date.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Want to join the fun??
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter if you have never charted before or if you’ve been charting to avoid. I am sure you will find lots of help and support in this group.
If you would like to join, CD1 is the time to do it! That way, we can cheer you on
throughout your cycle, rather than 2 days before you test!
Please don't be discouraged by the number of posts in this thread. You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page. Just read through these first couple of posts and post a reply with the following information and we will get you added right away. Of course, none of this info is a must but we like to know a little bit about one another.

Things I Have Learned About TTC
by WC's Sherylb
* TTC is a journey. You will discover things about yourself that you never expected. You will face fears you never thought you had. You will find joy in little things.
* TTC can bring you closer to your DH, or it can pull you apart. If your marriage is not solid, you will find out quickly.
* No one understands exactly what you are feeling at any given moment, but someone can empathize at least a little bit.
* You will experience an emotional roller coaster ride. There will be highs and lows and fast moments and slow. Sometimes you have to wait in a very, very slow moving line. You may not even get the seat you want. It is not always fun, it can be scary, but in the end it is worth it.
* "Just relax" is the last thing in the world you want to hear from someone, but it is OK if you say it about yourself.
* There will be moments when you question your own decision to start TTC. You will wonder if you should wait or if you should just give up. Those are normal. But you will get past those feelings.
* The blue and green turtle likes to pop its head out! You will hear of someone's pregnancy and turn green with envy and blue inside because it isn't you.
* It isn't fair, it isn't easy, and it isn't pretty. But you keep doing it because the reward is worth it.
* You will be your best friend and your worst enemy. Your body will
surprise you and yet disappoint you.
* Some women do get lucky and conceive right away. Others aren't so lucky and have to struggle to get there. Hope you will be in the first category, but prepare yourself to be in the second.
* Once you decide to TTC, there will be babies and pregnant women everywhere! You could swear there is a baby boom going on!
* You will have questions. No one will ever be in exactly your position, so don't be surprised when no one can give you exactly the answer you are looking for. But there are people that can contribute, so don't be afraid to ask!
* Two lines on a pregnancy test is not the end of the struggle. Pregnancy has lots of struggles in and of itself.

- Common TTC abbreviations
This is a list of some of the more common TTC abbreviations. I know as a newcomer to the TTC threads, it can be hard to keep them all straight. I hope these will help, and if anyone has any they would like added, please let me know!
•2WW: "2 week wait" - The approximate time from possible conception to menstruation due date; Pregnancy tests should be taken near the end of the 2WW.
•AF: "Aunt Flo"; Your period; Menstruation
•AFNW: "Aunt Flo Not Wanted"; the day your period is expected to start, but you are hoping it doesn't!
•AO: anovulatory (cycle without ovulation)
•BBs: "boobs"; breasts
•BBL: "be back later"
•BBT: Basal Body Thermometer; This is used to measure your basal body temperature, when you wake up in the morning, after at least 3 hours of sleep, before you start to move around; Use a special BBT thermometer to take your temperature because they measure the small changes in temperature from day to day more accurately than the regular fever thermometers.
•BCP: Birth control pills
•BD'ing: "baby dancing"; baby-making intercourse
•BFN: "Big Fat Neutral" or “Big Fat Negative”; Negative pregnancy test.
•BF'ing: breast-feeding
•BRB: "be right back"
•CD: cycle day; a particular day in your menstrual cycle (example: CD1 is the first day of your period)
•CL: Cover Line; a visual tool used to separate the low (pre-ovulatory) temps from high (post-ovulatory) temps; a coverline is typically based on the temperatures 6 days prior to ovulation.
•CM: cervical mucous; one of the most useful clues your body can give you in predicting your fertility; it can range from dry, creamy, sticky, or (the most fertile) egg white/watery type.
•CF: cervical fluid; same as cervical mucus
•CP: cervical position; an optional, but sometimes really useful, fertility sign; CP will generally be low, firm and closed before and after ovulation, and high, soft and open during your fertile time.
•DD: "dear daughter"
•DH: "dear husband"
•DS: "dear son"
•DPO: Days Past Ovulation; number of days from your post-ovulatory temperature rise. (Example: 1DPO is the day after your ovulation)
•Endo: endometriosis (can be a fertility problem)
•EDC and EDD: estimated date of confinement (antiquated, but still used by physicians) and estimated date of delivery
•EPT: a brand of pregnancy test, or, generic for "early pregnancy test"
•EW or EWCM: egg white cervical mucus; the most fertile quality CM; it is slippery, clear and stretchy, like egg whites; also EWCF
•FAM: Fertility Awareness Method; the method of fertility and/or birth control that correlates the physical changes you experience during your cycle to predict when you are most fertile
•FF: Fertility Friend, an online (free, for basic services) fertility charting site (website); (could also be formula feeding; check context)
•FM: fertility monitor
•FMU: first morning urine
•FP: follicular phase; the phase before ovulation, where the egg matures in the ovaries
•FRED: First Response Early Detection (pregnancy test)
•HCG: human chorionic gonadotropin; the hormone that is present during pregnancy and what the HPT's and blood test measure to determine if you are pregnant
•HTH: "hope that helps"
•HPT: home pregnancy test; a urine pregnancy test you can take at home
•IMHO: "in my humble opinion"
•IMO: "in my opinion"
•IUI: intra-uterine insemination
•IVF: in vitro fertilization
•KU: knocked up
•LH: leutenizing hormone; the LH surge is what is measured by the OPKs; this hormone signals the egg to burst from the ovary
•LP: luteal phase; the phase of your cycle that begins just after ovulation and continues for 10-18 days, ending with the start of your next period; during the LP, your body continues to build up the lining of your uterus, and produce hormones which would support a pregnancy; this is the time when a fertilized egg can implant into the uterine lining
•NFP: Natural Family Planning; similar to FAM, but with abstinence during the fertile period
•O, Oing, Oed: ovulation, ovulating, or ovulated
•OPK: ovulation predictor kit; tests for presence of LH surge that usually precedes ovulation by 12-48 hours; these tests are quite expensive and not always accurate (if you take medication or depending on your age); these are optional when charting with FF, but if your fertility data is not clear it can bring more light and help interpret difficult cases
•OS: Ovusoft; charting software based on TCOYF
•PCOS: polycystic ovarian syndrome (a fertility problem)
•PG: pregnant
•PIAC: pee in a cup
•POAS: pee on a stick
•RE: reproductive endocrinologist
•SA: semen analysis
•SH: "sweet husband"
•SO: "significant other"
•SYS, SYL : See ya soon! or See ya later!
•TCOYF: Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler; a book and website about charting and fertility.
•TMI: "too much information" - There is no such thing when TTC!
•TTA: "trying to avoid"
•TTC: "trying to conceive"
•TTFN: "ta-ta for now"
•TTYL, TTYS: "talk to you later" or "talk to you soon"

I'm still around. I've been very busy.
Temps are down, but I don't think I'm due to O for at least another week, probably longer though.
I've been feeling very sick lately. I thought it was FPS, but I think it is just my acid reflux. It is so bad right now my esophagus is swollen and I gag pretty much 24/7. It sucks to feel sick and not be PG!
Anyways, I'll update if anything new happens.

CD10 here and the BDfest has begun. I'll start using OPKs probably tomorrow.
Anyone know if Provera or Clomid can cause you to have higher temps? My temps are usually high during the first few days of AF, but they've stayed high so far all cycle long. Maybe it's just warmer in my bedroom or something. I guess it really doesn't matter as long as they jump up after O!
Good testing vibes to all those in the 2WW!

I tested again on Sunday, and another BFN. I still haven't gotten AF and today is day 32. I have had one other cyle that went 32 days this year. I have been crampy for the last 3 days which is also unusual, but it is probably all in my head. If AF doesn't come by tomorrow I will run out and buy more HPT's. By the way the ones I took were clear blue and easy digitals (they were the cheapest ones). Should I try a different one next time????

I am so frustrated right now! Currently at CD 25 and I have no idea if I've O'd. My temps are completely crazy and not in line with all my other signs (CM, symptoms, etc.). I am upset because at least before (without the clomid) I knew what was going on with my body! I faxed my current chart to my doc for him to look at. Not sure if he'll have anything to say. Well I tested again tonight and got another BFN and I used a different type of test (first response). I am guessing I am around 14dpo. This cycle is very strange for many reasons: I have been having cramps on and off, usually they come in full force and AF shows up that day. Also, my bb's are not sore in any manner and they always are at least a few days before AF shows up. I don't have a breakout which is always my true sign that AF is coming. As I said earlier today I only had once cycle in 11 months that was 32 days long (and I am on day 32 today). So if she doesn't show up in the next couple of days I will test again. I hate this! I really wish AF would show up (not really) or I would get a BFP.

Hey ladies! Hope everyone is having a good night!
Welcome to Sare79!
Can someone please double-check out my charts and make sure there is no sign of O that I am missing? I'm going in to start Provera on Wednesday (If we aren't snowed in!!) and we were supposed to not BD for 2 weeks beforehand. Ooops. :o I figured as long as I wasn't showing any sign of O there would be no chance for pg and would be ok to take the meds. So I'm just checking to make sure! We are having a winter storm here so wanted to post a day early in case the power went out again! TIA!!
Good luck to those who are O'ing and testing soon!!!

Please move me to "Waiting to O"
Yep, true red AF showed about an hour ago. Not a huge surprise considering I have been having brown spotting for 8 days straight starting on 2 DPO! I still have no idea what is going on. I have a doc (actually nurse) appt on Thursday to try to find out. 'Course, because I couldn't get in right away, she can't actually see the problem as it's happening. Damn HMO.
It's funny -- a few weeks ago I wanted to get a BFP. Now I just want to have a normal cycle. It's all about perspective. I think the thing that scares me the most is that things have gotten progressively worse in the year and half I have been charting. I used to spot consistently on 10 DPO; until this cycle it was occasionally 8 DPO; and now this 2 DPO weirdfest this cycle.
Sigh.

Welcome Sare79! I hope you time here is short and sweet. :)
Keep testing jodylovesscotty- good luck! I tried looking at your chart but nothing was there... Did I miss something?
ABirney , unfortunately, I am not much help interpreting charts yet, but I'm so glad you are going to get help with the Provera. It is amazing how whacked your temps are. Such a bummer. Best of luck to you!
MichelleRenee- that is too weird about the chart!
JeanT- good luck with finding out what is going on. No fun having your cycle get funky on you.
Last night I was having severe cramps, so I thought maybe implantation was occuring. I never get cramps right before AF. How long after O does implantation occur? I am 9 DPO. My LP is usually 10-12 days, so I tested this morning with FMU to see if maybe DH was right... Negativo. :( Oh well. I will test again later this week. I can't take the disappointment. I have no other FPS except I am so tired.

neenbean - I had cramps at 7 DPO - I was convinced that AF was coming really, really early...2 days later I got a BFP (last month my LP was 11 days, so I was terrified it was going to be like 8) Crossing my fingers for you!

neenbean Crossing my fingers for you!
jodylovesscottySorry for the BFN, but you never know ;) .
ABirney I don't see any signs of O so I think you are probably safe :).
jeant Sorry about AF :(.
Sabriel I hope so to :).
My temp went up today a considerable amount. I took a dollar test and it was BFN. I am only 10 DPO though. I will see what my temp is in the morning and see if it was a blip or not. I thought about my temp and I think it is accurate. I did the same thing last night with Joseph that I normally do. The only different thing is that I fell asleep at about 7 - 7:30 or so, I was just sooo tired! So maybe that is why??? I guess I will see in the morning.
My FPS are cramps, bloating, crankyness, gas, tender BB's (which I never got the last 2 AF's), hot flashes, a little shakiness and slight aversions to food. Most of this I get right before AF anyway, so I can chalk most of that up to PMS, the word my husband loves to hear  .
Anyway, good luck to any to any other testers out there (including you Sherry!)

CD11 and we're plugging along with SMEP. DH is a happy boy. I have fewer OPKs at home than I thought, so instead of using them 2x a day, I'm only going to use them when I get home from work. Tonight will be my first of this cycle. I know it's early yet, but I took the Clomid relatively early this cycle (CD3-7 instead of 5-9), so hopefully it will "kick in" soon!
ABirney, your chart looks just like my last 2. Take the Provera. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
jeant, I know what you mean. I hope you get things sorted out soon!

jeggink Sorry about the BFN. It is still early and your chart looks good! Crossing my fingers for you!
neenbean Sounds like it could be implantation to me! I hope you next test has two pretty lines!
jeant Sorry about AF showing. I hope the NP is able to give you some answers!
ABirney I don't see any signs of O!
I am CD 19 today and I definitely had a + OPK last night. I am going to take them in the evening from now on, because the line was much darker than it was in the afternoon. DH has been so tired from working so much lately it has been a fight to get him to BD! LOL, last night I told him to just suck it up and that he would be able to sleep faster if he just gave in. ;)

After last month of ill-timed BDing because either I was too tired or he was too tired, this month we did it pretty much right when we got home from work. Not really romantic BDing but productive! (and he was up and out of bed leaving me to "rest" - I know, TMI, but our schedules aren't in sync that much - he likes to stay up later than me - so we had to find a time that worked for both of us)

Can anyone give me any insight into why my temps would be so erratic? I am still a bit new to the charting thing.
Also, FF isn't showing any crosshairs, but I was pretty sure that I O'd on the 15 or 16th because I was feeling the cramps and had different CM.

I'm feeling so frustrated right now. With my body, with waiting, with this whole darn process. Today is CD11 and I'm still bleeding. Mostly spotting, but still red and still there. I have no idea why - don't know if it's just my "normal" bleeding since we know that my body really likes to bleed, or if it's a side effect of taking the Provera or Clomid or what. I started very slightly spotting on CD47, then started taking the Provera that night. The next night, my new CD1 according to my doc, I started spotting/bleeding more. Full AF arrived probably about Monday or Tuesday last week. Last cycle when I took Provera I had a long AF - about 8 or 9 days including all spotting before and after, so I don't know if this is normal or what.
But of course, I hate it. And I'm worried that my body is not doing what it's supposed to, again, and that the Clomid I took last week won't work and I won't O. I know a lot of this is premature and chances are I'll O later this week, but the waiting every single day is really starting to get to me. It's been only 5 months since we decided to SWH, and 4 months since we truly started TTC, and 3 months now since we began all the testing and diagnosing. I feel like we're FINALLY doing something about TTC and still all these doubts are in my head about whether it will work or not.
I must relax! (yes, the dreaded R word) Stressing out about this stuff is not going to make it easier. I think I'm just going to focus on other stuff - work, holidays, etc., and try to ENJOY the fun part of babymaking. We still have a week's worth of BDing to do and I might as well enjoy it!
Thanks for "listening" ladies. :)
sabriel, thanks!
sare79, did you just come off BCP? If so, it might take a few weeks for your cycle to get normal again. My first cycle off BCP was 45 or so days.

Sare my guess from looking at your overall chart is that you O'ed much later in this cycle, on CD 21, which means that you'd be 8 DPO, too early for a BFP.
That's what I thought.....but didn't want to say it outloud because I'm still a newbie! :o

Sare- I agree....i think you O'ed on Cycle Day 21....thats a pretty big dip....i would do what bellefior says and see if changing the setting gives you an O ....good luck....
as for me...i took my temp this morning jsut to make sure it was at a post O range for me and it is i was at 97.77.....so i am (not obsessing) officallly in another 2WW...let the non-obsession begin. Seriously girls???? How am i going to get through these two weeks....???

Jumping in to help out Sare...your chart is very interesting. According to official charting rules you have not Oed yet. Your chart needs to be bi-phasic (two levels) and yours is not. The temp drop on CD21 is interesting but it only reflects a possible estrogen surge which FF loves to say is pre-ovulation. In actuality (FF sucks at chart interpretation) it can mean simply an estrogen surge and nothing else (no ovulation necessarily). Erractic temps reflect what your hormones are doing. Low temps = estrogen, high temps = progesterone (very simply put). The fact that you have no temp rise leading to bi-phasic temperatures and you are still getting EWCM as of yesterday...my vote is for no O yet. Regardless of what is actually going on, there is no way you ovulated on the 15th or 16th. I get O pains so I am a huge believer in them, but that was most likely not them or you geared up to O and actually didn't O (which is a good possiblity).
I see you are taking Metformin...is that cycle related?
polkadot
11-29-2005, 03:44 PM
well.......i would believe anything Soulmate says...shes **the woman** when it comes to this stuff....shes pretty good at telling us whats going on....

Sare I have been wrong before but I'd rather err on the side of "no O" then say you did and go through all the stress of BFNs and no AF...plus missing a possible egg. Also, I completely see what these other ladies are saying and agree that CD21 could be a possiblity. I would BD when you get EWCM just in case. The first couple of cycles charting can be very frustrating...but keep the faith...you are learning more and more about your body with each cycle.

Thank you so much. When I went in and changed to Fertility Awareness, it predicted it at CD25. WTF?
My met-formin is to control my blood sugar, which ironically is also very erratic itself- sometimes super-low, sometimes super-high.
JayJay
11-29-2005, 04:06 PM
Sare, had you still been BD'ing around that time?
Sare79
11-29-2005, 04:09 PM
I'm very confused by all this. But i am learning something new everyday!
As far as my doctors and I knew, I was very prone to releasing multiple eggs each month. So I guess I always thought (had the misconception) that I would be able to conceive rather quickly. And I know the last few months hasn't been long, but I guess I thought that if I started charting, I would recognize O-time and get pregnant. I've been wrong before, and will probably be wrong again. :)

11-29-2005, 04:11 PM

Sare I am assuming that you have Type II Diabetes or borderline at least? If so then that would totally effect your cycles and give you erratic temps and mess with your cycles. Your endocrine system not only regulates your insulin but your reproductive hormones as well. Below is a bit of education so you can learn how to make your own crosshairs and not rely on FF.
To get a coverline you take your last 6 temps before the temp spike (supposed to be about .3 to .4 degree jump but not everyone does that) and draw a horozontal line .1 degree above the highest temp. FF's suggestion is interesting and I'll use that. FF puts the coverline at 97.3 but technically (according to FAM rules) it would be 97.6. I am using CD25 as a possible O date. Now to say you Oed you need 3 consistent temps around .1 degree above that 97.6 coverline (so 97.7 and higher). If you look at your chart you have 2 temps. If your temp is above 97.7 tomorrow you may have yourself an O. Now technically, your CM is supposed to dry up (no more EW) after you ovulate. Sometimes people get EW right before AF comes which is the corpus luteum ("pregnancy cyst" or the goop filled follicle that once held the egg you ovulated. This goop is what produces progesterone. The bigger the egg the more goop and the higher the progesterone = high temps) breaking down which means you are not pregnant (since you need the goop to keep the pregnancy). Anyway, the EW on CD28 is after what FF says is O. Now, depending on what happened with Sunday's temp and why it is an open circle (maybe taken at a different time?) It is also possible you ovulated yesterday.
I would give it till the end of the week and keep taking your temp. If you ovulated on CD21 then a HPT would be decently accurate on Sunday. If you ovulated recently then your temps will stay high. The ole charting saying is "wait and see". You just really can't tell a whole lot about what is really going on right now and I know that sucks for you. Good luck and...

Okay, so will FF draw the coverline on the chart, or will I manually do that?
Soulmate
11-29-2005, 07:04 PM
Okay, so will FF draw the coverline on the chart, or will I manually do that? I usually do an override. If you look on my Pg chart in my sig. the crosshairs are blue instead of red. That means they are overridden. If you go to your chart and scroll down to "Ovulation Detector" there is an option "Tuning/Override". But you have to enter an O date as well. It won't do just a coverline unfortunately. In the meantime you can visually keep track by just looking .1 degree above the highest of your 6 most recent temps. MrsJackson, your CL would be 98.0 right now.
JayJay
11-29-2005, 07:37 PM
Soulmate do you think that it's a good idea for me to be messing with the ovulation and coverline?? Being as I'm just a newbie, I don't to make anything else more confusing than it already is.
Maybe it would be best if I just rode this cycle out, and kind of observed. Maybe by the end of a full month of charting, I will be able to see things a little more clearly.
Is it normal for my temps to be as high as they are? After looking in the chart gallery, do my temperatures seem high?
(Maybe it's because of all the extra insullation! :p )

My nephew was born at 9:52 tonight!!!
Ian Eric
6 lbs 4 oz
19 inches
He is adorable and I am so excited! I watched the whole birth and it was amazing! (and fast!!)
My sis went to the hospital around 8:30. I got the call around 8:45 while I was at work. I rushed out of there and walked into the room at 9:30. She was about to start pushing. They didn't even have time to give her an epidural! She was very scared about doing it natural but she pushed like a champ and he was born within 20 minutes!
I am so, so excited! I thought that watching this would make me want to stop TTC but it made me want to be PG even more!!!

Thanks for the good wishes, ladies. I just wish I knew what my body was doing! I've been having major cramping since yesterday afternoon, which, according to a good friend of mine who's had much experience with Clomid, is probably a sign that my ovaries are working hard to get those little eggies ready to pop out. Just to reassure my troubled brain, I'm going to call my doc this morning to ask about the extended bleeding, but other than that, I'm going to keep thinking positive thoughts! I did my first OPK yesterday and got 2 pink lines, but not a positive. I'll keep on doing that daily. Oh, and I bought some Robitussin this morning and will start on that. My CM, when I've seen it, has been hard to judge in my last few cycles due to my sporadic spotting. I'm not taking any chances with it, so I'm starting the Robitussin this morning. That's all. Today is CD12 and the SMEP BDfest continues tonight!
jjsanner, thanks.
sare79, frustrating. Have you considered calling your doc to see if you can have a blood test to see if you really did O at all this month?
gmb4503, thanks. I hope you get answers of your own soon, too!
polkadot, good luck with the not obsessing! I'll hopefully come not obsess with you soon! ;)
Michelle, CONGRATS! That's so awesome that you were there for it. Yay for your sis doing it naturally! Not that I'd ever want to do that, but if it means a quickie labor and delivery, then woohoo for her! I hope you're the next one in your family to have that experience, and soon! :D

Thank you all. It was amazing. I was hesitant to stay because I was so scared I would lose my nerve and not want to be PG anymore. It actually has made me want to get PG even more. It was incredible to watch. The only hard part was hearing my little sis scream and seeing how scared she looked knowing she wouldn't be getting an epidural. For her first baby they accidentally gave her a spinal instead of an epidural so she didn't feel a thing. She couldn't even push. So now she's experienced both sides to having a baby.... pain-free and painful.
Anyways, I've had a range of emotions since last night, the strongest being motivation. She totally made me feel like I can do it too and little Ian is so precious. I want one of my own so bad. He is such a little miracle.
So as for myself.... my temps are still down. My chart seems less rocky than last month, which is comforting. It is CD17. I O'ed around CD23-25 last cycle so I am anticipating a more clear thermal shift this month. Time to start eating baby carrots again!

How long does it take for FF to predict your O date? I am on CD 13 and FF hasn't detected ovulation. You can take a look for yourself; I think that I Oed on Sunday. (I had O pains Monday evening and a little last night.)

Jody - it's hard to really tell, since there aren't any temps in your chart. Have you temped, just to see if you are at a "post O" range? That would at least tell if you O'd.

CTs_Punkin Sorry about AF. :(
I am pretty sure that I Oed yesterday. I will have to wait and see what my temp is tomorrow. So, I guess I am now in the dreaded 2ww.

ABirney, I remember you from TTA! Good luck with a new cycle. I hope the Provera does the trick.
polkadot, I know it's hard, but I would wait until at least 10DPO. And there are a lot of people who won't see a BFP for several days after that even though they are pregnant.
I saw the beginnings of my EW phase today, which would normally be a good thing, but I am keeping fingers crossed for a delayed O, or at least an average CD18 O, as FH and I aren't reunited for eight more days...

Dotsie Sorry about the sucky AF. Last month was like that and I am hoping that if AF comes this month, it's not that bad!
Well, no AF yet and temps still up there. I am 12 DPO and my longest lp was 13 DPO, so 2 more days. If no AF or temp drop in the morning I may take another test as I am going to the IL's for the weekend and there is no way I am testing there! We shall see. Pre-AF symptoms aren't as bad as they were last month thank god!

Polkadot...I would say you o'd on CD 20 (your last day of EWCM) or 21 (the day after) based upon your last three charts. I don't want you testing too soon, getting BFN's and getting all discouraged ;) .
As for me, I think I finally o'd yesteday. My temp still wasn't that high this morning, but definately in my usual early post-o range. I'll let you know tomorrow for sure. If I did o our timing was decent and **hopefully** I will have a nice Christmas surprise:) .

OK, finally can get in here, it's been hectic in the office today.
I guess I am the mystery BFP :D  .
I took a dollar store test last night and got a VERY light line after ~7 min. It was so light that DH could barely see it with the cover off.
I drove to Walmart and got a few Answer early tests and tested again this morning. The line came up immediately, not extremely dark, but very obvious. I don't think I will buy those dollar store tests anymore since I think I would have tested + a few days ago with the answer!
We are quite happy, though a little shocked as it took us 6 months to conceive DS.

ABirney, yep, the provera will raise your temperature level a bit. Totally normal. And when you've finished your course, don't be surprised if it takes a few days for the temps to come back down and for AF to arrive. Sometimes it just takes a bit for your body to get the message.

I tested today at 11 DPO and definite BFN. But as I stared at my chart this morning - do you think that maybe I O'd on CD22? FF is calling my chart triphasic. Maybe I implanted late (CD22?) and its just too early? Those BFNs are SO not fun to look at. (BTW, I used two tests - FRER and CBE digital using FMU). Looking forward to hanging out with you all!

Rolling in some baby dust....
I need all I can get... what is up with my body... can it not just let AF come??? I mean, I've had three-four days of a little AF, then nada... (so I'm counting it as spotting since it's not continuous(sorry if tmi)). So today, I'm hopeful that this is "REALLY" it so that I can count it as CD1 and move the heck on....
Sorry to those who got AF!
Good luck to the upcoming testers!

Welcome ausi2b. Your chart looks great! I think I agree with FF's interpretation. It may just be too early to test. Try testing again in a couple of days. How long is your normal LP?
Hoping for AF for you, CTs_punkin. How weird is that to say?! I hope this cycle brings good things for you!
ausi2b
12-02-2005, 09:14 AM
Thanks for the warm welcome! ptcrn - This is my first month off of BCP - so I have no idea how long my LP is. Of course, on BCP, it was 27 days. But I was on BCP for so long (10 years) that I can't remember what it was before that! :)
Any other advice is WELCOME!
jesseybell
12-02-2005, 09:40 AM
ausi2b - I was 28 days to the day from the first day I got my period and when I went off BCP a couple of times. But this time I was like 34 days and Oed on Day 23, so who knows. It did take my body 2-3 months to actually O after I went off (and I had been on pretty much straight for 16 years)...But your chart does look great!
Aletheia
12-02-2005, 09:48 AM
Holy smokes, ausi2b! That is a triphasic chart if I've ever seen one. :)
I have to first say that I admire your will power-- not joining us lest you become TTC obssessed and all-- I could have never done it. :)
I wish I could tell you what you want to hear, but I can't! Since you don't know much about your cycle off BCP, and since I feel like I've seen more chemical pregnancies in women coming right off BCP (though this is only my experience, and I haven't read anything in support of that) I would urge you to wait as long as you can before testing again. 11 dpo is still really early- I'd wait until 15 dpo if you can, and if you get a BFN then wait again until 18dpo. If at 18 dpo your temp is still up and AF is a no show, and you get another BFN, it's time to call your doctor.
So it looks like since you've put off your obssessing, you can unleash it full force for the next week! Good luck!

I had my appointment with the nurse practitioner yesterday, to try to find out why I had such a strange cycle last month (spotting for 9 days starting at 2 DPO, something that is so rare I couldn't find any information on it anywhere). This nurse has done OB/GYN for 30 years. Guess what her advice was?
"Just relax."
I couldn't believe my ears. She told me that it was probably just stress and she recommends therapy for most infertile women. Sure, I had some stress last cycle (from buying the new house), but it was a temporary thing. I also pointed out that it wasn't just this cycle -- I have been spotting earlier and earlier for the past year, and if anything things are less stressful in my life now. She said to stop charting and just to have sex every other day in the middle of my cycle. She ended with, "It will happen when it happens." When I asked if it was less likely to "happen" in cycles with spotting, she said, "I've seen everything," and listed all the unusual circumstances she'd seen people get pg in (43 and with 3 adopted kids etc.)
So unhelpful. Hearing about other people's unusual situations does not answer my question. And charting does not stress me out -- the days of spotting do, and they would be there whether I charted or not. And I do not need therapy for God's sake -- give me a break.

jeant- You are rightfully angry. Her advice was not only hurtful, but unhelpful and unprofessional. I know you've done more reading on luteal phase spotting than I have (here are two sites I found, above), but in every case it seems like we're told to consult with a medical professional if we have unexplained spotting during the month, pregnant or not. Bot of the above sites seem to recommend hormonal balance testing and that's what I would want if I were you.
I'm sorry you had that interaction. I once was in the middle of getting a pap smear when I got a lecture by a (female) doctor about a) how I shouldn't be sexually active since I wasn't at the time married and b) how what I had written on my new patient forms about acupuncture helping with my earlier depression was "all in my mind." WHILE SHE HAD A COLD METAL INSTRUMENT IN MY HOO HAA, MIND YOU. So I know what a**poopies medical professionals can be. Haha-- I'm married to one. (DH is a med student. :D Who hasn't done his OB rotation yet, not that that would be helpful what with how "women's problems" get taught in a lot of schools, I think...)
Get yourself a second opinion. Hell-- you can't even take her advice of "just relax" until you feel at peace with what your body is trying to tell you; you deserve a medical practitioner who understands that.
Keep us posted and be sure to remember you can vent here any time. What a harpy you saw. Blows my mind.

Hi ladies. Sorry I went MIA for a couple of days. I had one of those freak-out moments on Wednesday and went a little mental for a while. I'm better now.
In short, after I posted about the bleeding getting worse, I went to the bathroom and discovered that I was passing some pretty large blood clots. That's not usual for me and, combined with the most severe cramps of my life (also not usual for me), I got a little scared. AF had been on her way out and I was barely spotting over the weekend and into Monday/Tuesday, but all of a sudden I was gushing blood again (sorry TMI!). Anyway, thank goodness for my friend the doctor. I called him at home and he told me to take an HPT, just in case, and to call him later. Thank God the HPT was negative (never thought I'd say that!), but he said I could go ahead and come in yesterday to see someone in his office, just for my peace of mind.
I met with the nurse practitioner, who took my whole history again and then said she thinks I might need to be on Metformin along with the Clomid. She said that the Provera might've triggered a much heavier AF this time, which is why I had so much bleeding for so long (today is CD14 already!). She said there's not much more they can do for me there other than just trying various meds, and that I should just see an RE already. She said since we know what my issues are, there's no sense in "trying a little of this, a little of that" and that I should see the RE and just get pregnant already! LOL. I said that sounded great to me! Finally, someone who agreed that, even though we haven't technically been trying very long, we shouldn't wait any longer to do whatever needs to be done. That was what was frustrating me so much. I don't think the length of our TTC period has anything to do with anything, not since we know I have PCOS and bleeding issues!
So, I have an appt with the RE on Tuesday. In the meantime, thank goodness, the bleeding seems to maybe be stopping. I've gone from full AF this morning to barely spotting as of an hour ago! I'm still OPKing and BDing and hoping to see some evidence of O in the next few days. And if it didn't work this cycle, then hopefully the RE can help me get ready for the next!
Jody and gmb, I'm so sorry AF found you. :(
jeggink, woohoo, congrats!!! H&H! :D
ausi2b, welcome! :)
jeant, OMG, I would have thrown something at her. The referrals coordinator at my doc's office yesterday told me to relax, but she meant as in keep doing what I'm doing with charting and meds, etc., but to try not to obsess over every symptom or pain, etc. and make myself crazy (which is what I had one on Wednesday!) That to makes sense and is what I've been trying to do. Not always successfully, obviously.

gymwidow Wow, scary! So glad you're OK now. And cool that you can see an RE (otherwise known as docs who actually look at charts, from what I hear!)
And Aletheia and gymwidow Thanks so much for your support! It means a lot. Aletheia, thanks for posting those sites -- they were interesting. I already had my FSH tested and it was fine, so fortunately I'm not in early menopause or anything. But I think I will make an appt with a doc (earliest I can get in is 3 months from now, but whatever) to ask my questions and see if I can get my progesterone levels tested. They might actually be fine, since my temp stays high even when I spot. But it would be good to know. I am also hoping that next cycle will go back to normal -- nothing like spotting at 2 DPO to make you appreciate and not mind spotting at 9 DPO.
That doc you saw sounds even worse! Wow. Nothing like insulting a woman when her hoo-ha is staring you in the face. I mean, really.
I think what bugs me the most about docs is how they assume you are dumb and know nothing, and then when it turns out you know a lot they seem threatened. I am also continually surprised by all of the things docs don't know. e.g.: my GP thought salmon was a high-mercury fish. No -- it's one of the few low-mercury fish. And this latest nasty nurse laid on the "sperm can live for 5 days" line, when actually every medical study shows that the vast majority of pg's happen the day before or the day of O. That's why people are given the "every other day" advice, so you can hit one of those two days.

So sorry to hear about all the AFs making appearances.
Does anyone have a minute to look at my chart? I am 12 DPO and still having high temps. My typical cycle is 29-30 days- Today is CD 30 but AF is not here and ept is showing a BFN. Any thoughts as to why my temps are still above the coverline despite a BFN???

I decided to test again today because I am so confused by my chart and my body. Got another BFN. It's a bit strange for me to go longer than 30 days w/o AF, and I'm just not feeling "right." A little off, so I thought it may be something. I'll just keep on though. At this point, I'd be glad to get AF so that I can start to see patterns in my cycle.

Some of you may know that women who are TTC, going to be TTC, or pg should avoid eating certain types of fish (e.g., shark, swordfish) because of their high levels of mercury contamination. My doc wouldn't test me for mercury (yes, my health care plan sux), but I just found out that you can get tested for mercury levels for $25 through a research program sponsored by the Sierra Club:
http://www.sierraclub.org/mercury/get_tested/
They send you a test kit, you send them a small hair sample, and they send back the results.
The whole fish thing is so confusing. Fish is *really* good for you and for actual or potential babies -- omega-3 fatty acids are important for brain development, and fish are the best source. Yet big fish have a lot of mercury, and medium fish are in this gray area where I don't know what to do (tuna, halibut, mahi-mahi). I've tried to limit those to once a week, but it's hard. Salmon are very low in mercury, as are small seafood like shrimp and clams.
It will be interesting to see what my level is, since I eat fish all the time.
Sabriel
12-03-2005, 08:22 PM
jeant Interesting about the mercury testing. I know omega-3s are really good for you, but I cannot stand seafood. My dogs take flax seed oil, so I should probably do that too! Sorry about the nurse you saw. How awful of her to say that. How can you relax when you are bleeding everyday for over a week?!
Sare79 I hope you are able to figure out your cycle soon! It looks to me that FF is probably right about your O date. If it is, then it is too early to test.
polkadot I hope this is it for you! Crossing my fingers!
ausi2b That's awful that you can't fall back asleep! I can hardly stay awake while I am temping. Maybe it will get easier with time. (Hopefully you won't have to worry about it for long!

12-04-2005, 06:10 AM
So it seems that I definitely was freaking myself out for nothing. By Friday night the bleeding had basically stopped altogether. My temps dropped back down to their normal pre-O range (I guess that means the Clomid is out of my system now?) and yesterday I had what looked like a positive OPK. Yay! I'll test again today and BD again tonight and am hopeful that I'll see a temp jump soon.
jeant, I agree. It bugs me that my doc seemed SO CERTAIN of things, like she told me that everyone's LP is always 14 days, so you can just count 14 days back from the 1st day of AF and that's the day you ovulated. Hmph. Anyway, I'm glad you're going to make the appointment and I hope you can get in soon. In the meantime, just keep on doing what you're doing and hopefully something good will happen!
neenbean, have you retested? I can't tell much from your chart (I'm not that great at interpreting them).
ABirney, thanks!
ausi2b, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that it's not really AF yet, though. I'll still keep my fingers crossed for you!
polkadpt, I bought more HPTs yesterday, too. Walmart had the CBE digital on sale, 2 for $10. I couldn't resist! Good luck testing!

Hi ladies! Sorry I haven't been around much. I am just not in the mood to chart this cycle. I don't know if it is because I am going through all this testing or what, but I am just blah about temping, etc. My HSG was normal (don't know if I told you all that or not) and my CD3 bloodwork was normal as well. I go in on Tuesday for CD21 bloodwork. DH still hasn't gone in for his SA. He promised me he will call tomorrow and set up an appt. My doctor said that if the CD 21 bloodwork comes back ok, he would like to start me on Clomid next cycle. So...we'll see.
Congrats to all the BFPs! And good luck to those of you about to test!

Well, FF has officially put me at 3DPO. I'm not quite sure that I agree with it. My only reasoning is that I haven't had any EWCM yet this cycle. I always remember having it before.
Has anybody else not agreed with their FF Chart before? Or is it just my confused, cautious mind that makes me think this way?!

ETA: Okay, so I went back and entered my CM info for the day, (because I forgot to do that before....) and FF changed my chart to saying I hadn't O'ed yet. But looking at my temps, it kinda looks like I did.....( I need to make up my mind, I know. :o ) Anyone have any useful insights??
Maybe the reason my temp was so high this morning is because I was up 2-3 times last night. Does that affect temps? Should I discard it?

fly by post...
MrsJ - If you did not have 3 consecutive hours of sleep if will most definitely affect your temp i.e. make it higher. I would discard that temp and make a note of what happened.
UTchick - Sorry you're feeling so blah. This TTC thing gets to us all at one point or another. Here's hoping this is your cycle :)
gymwidow - Yay for + opk's. I can't wait to start testing for that in a few days.
ausi2b - sorry for the temp dive. Don't give up just yet, it's not over til AF shows.
Good luck to everyone. Sorry if I missed anyone.
