I live in Pittsburgh but not for much longer. We've been here for almost two years. Will be moving soon.:D If you aren't from here it can take a very long time to get used to-I've never gotten used to it.
We live in Moon Township right now.

Hi! I am also from Pittsburgh.:)
I am currently living in Shadyside. Once I graduate in May we'll probably look to move to the Robinson area since it will be closer to my job.
EMsMom
12-02-2005, 09:42 AM
Woo! Lot's of Pittsburghers!! I live by Washington, PA also!! (As Moocher and TLynn know as they've been to my home) ;)
Sara... Where do you go to school? I went to high school in Shadyside and grew up in Squirrel Hill! :)

So that's four of us in the Washington area?!? Wow!! Hey does anyone else's kid go to the daycare in the Crowne Center?
EMsMom
12-02-2005, 09:48 AM
Not me, I'm a SAHM... But we go out that way all the time. What do you do, Nikki and how old is your little one?
philnikki
12-02-2005, 10:05 AM
EmsMom - I am an accountant for The Health Plan (in St. Clairsville,OH). Ava is 3 mos old! If you want to see pics, you can click on my journal in my siggy ;) Totally jealous though...I wish I was a SAHM.
You guys probably see my DH from time to time...he is the supervisor at the Washington Post Office! :)
EMsMom
12-02-2005, 10:18 AM
Awww!! My little one is 6 months old!! Did you have DD at Washington Hospital?
I don't go to the washington post office, we go to the little one by our house. :)
Sara07
12-02-2005, 10:33 AM
EMsMom - I am in my 3rd year at Duquesne Law. I went to W & J for my undergrad degree.
EMsMom
12-02-2005, 10:54 AM
Who's originally from the area?
W&J is very close to where several of us live :)
philnikki
12-02-2005, 10:56 AM
EmsMom - No, I had DD at wheeling hospital. I wanted to go to the hospital closest to my family and I really wanted to see this particular obstetrician down here. Well, if you do ever go to the Wash PO, my hubby is the cute guy :) We also had DD right next to our wedding anniv!!
EMsMom
12-02-2005, 11:02 AM
That's so cool! Although spending our 2nd anniversary in the hospital was kind of a drag, but definitely worth it! ;) So I take it that you are originally from Wheeling? What doctor do you take Ava to? (Sorry if I'm asking to many questions *blush*)
philnikki
12-02-2005, 11:06 AM
Ava goes to a doctor down here (Dr. Staab) And yes, we are from the Wheeling area originally. I went to WVU for my undergrad, and my hubby and I settled in the Washington area so that we could commute to and from work/home/Pittsburgh easily. I really love where we live (Meadowbrook)!!
EMsMom
12-02-2005, 11:14 AM
Meadowbrook is very nice. When I was in Real Estate, I sat an open house there. :)
Dr. Staab... I don't believe that I know him. Emma goes to Washington Pediatric and we are very pleased with them. :)
I'm originally from Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill as I mentioned before, and DH is from Indiana County, so we're sort of in the middle for commuting between parents.
I forgot to mention how much a LOVE Sarris candies... OMG... TLynn and Moocher can attest to the delish favors that I got from there, for my baby shower!! They also have some pretty darned good chocolate covered pretzels!!!

We live in Moon Township right now.
I lived up there for about a year. :D I loved it up there, but it was time to move into a house instead of renting. We lived in................Darn! What was the name of that place? It was off Thorn Run Road.

12-02-2005, 04:52 PM
Nikki ~ Meadowbrook? Whay can't I think of where that is? Is that near the Sheetz? Hope, what was that plan that I visited you in that one time?
I live on the same road as the Washington County Fairgrounds, but on the other end of the road

Moocher-I think I know where you're talking about. Was it on the main road by the church?
Let's see. You take 60 and get off at Thorn Run, then turn left on Old Thorn Run. There is a church on Thorn Run right before that little park which for the life of me the name escapes me.
Of course my memory sucks so that's nothing new. lol
Have you ever tried Kip's Ice Cream up that way? YUMMY!!!! Luckily we don't live that way anymore. We would have gained about 50 more pounds if we still lived there! lol

The Horse Track?!?!?! Off Race Track Road?!?! If you live down that way I'm about 5-10 minutes from you! :D If you get off the Race Track Road exit and take it past Wendys, McDonalds and take it to the T at the end of the road, then make a left and immediate right and we are about 5 minutes out that way. :D
philnikki
12-03-2005, 11:37 AM
Moocher - Yep, I get off the racetrack rd. exit, make a left and then another left into Meadowbrook Hieghts :) You are my neighbor :p

Holy Cow!!!
Hey Neighbor!!!!! :D I drive past that area sometimes when I want to take the scenic route to 19 instead of taking race track road the whole way out and turning left on 19.
philnikki
12-04-2005, 05:26 PM
Moocher - Yeah, I do the same thing! Except last winter as soon as I turned into Meadow Brook I hit a patch of ice and completely demolished a speed limit sign! I get afraid to go that way now when the weather is bad.
Tlynn - Yeah JITH is a big ol deal, huh? :) I actually am originally from Moundsville, WV and my mom worked for WOVK, so I have been at Jambo more times than I can count. I also went to the same High School as Brad Paisley ;)
Girls, this weather seriously sucks :( ARG!!!

Becki - Of course you are an honorary Pittsburgher!! Without a doubt!!!
TLynn - Yeah, but even when you move east, you'll still be a burgher! It's not like you're moving THAT far... I mean, I still consider myself a Pittsburgher and I live in BFE, as you know ;-)
Nikki - That is a really cute avatar! I think we have the same bathtub! :)

Just popping in to say hi to all of you burgh girls!
Although I have lived in NY since 1998, I still consider myself a Pittsburgh girl! I grew up in Upper St. Clair and would LOVE to convince DH to move back there! My whole family is still in the burgh, and I wish I could get home more often. I miss it alot!
Hope you don't mind me popping in from time to time!

Hi Jen! Please pop in! You're a South Hills girl, like me. :D
Is your DH from Pittsburgh too?
cpbride8203
12-06-2005, 07:32 AM
Tlynn - My DH grew up here in NY - one of the reasons I came here after college.
I found this joke in my email and thought I would post for all of the Steeler fans out there (I still get to see the games thanks to the Directv football package and my DD has her own terrible towel! My DH thinks I am nuts!)
There was a Steelers' fan sitting high in the stands behind the end zone. Looking around, he spotted an empty seat on the 50-yard line behind the
Steelers' bench. Thinking to himself "what a waste," he made his
way towards it. When he arrived, he asked the folks on either side , "Is
this seat taken?" One person shrugged but the other replied, "This
was my wife's seat. She was a Steeler's fan for fifty years but she's
passed away." The other man replied, "I'm so sorry to hear that. May I ask why you didn't give the ticket to a friend or a relative?" The man replied, "They're all at the funeral."

I'm not from the South Hills area, but we live so close to it now. I was born and raised in Squirrel Hill, as I've mentioned before. Then moved to Peters Township with my FH then out to BFE just south west of washington (as I sit here, I see deer trotting through our yard!) But that IS funny that we all live south-ish of the city!
Great FWD Jen! Did you go to USC HS?

You know, I went to the Pens game tonight and while it's great to have enthusiastic fans sitting around you, tonight all we had were homers!! I mean all I heard the whole game was how "that should have been a delay of game call!!"
Now, this would have been fine and dandy, however;
It shouldn't have been, and secondly, the guy was yelling this well into the third period!!! The incident he was arguing about happened in the FIRST period!!!! Let it go, you know? Geeezz!
Then the woman behind me? I swear she knew NOTHING!! She would yell things, but only after she heard the guy to the left of us yelling them. If you know NOTHING about the game, shut up, sit down and pay attention!!!
I'm a Pens fan too, but even I won't complain about a call if I didn't see it, or if it was called for.
I don't think I can hear much right now. Between her screaming and the screaming of the guy to our left, I think they pierced my eardrums!!

Hey you guys! I'm also in Pittsburgh (East). I moved here in 2003 - my DH grew up in Penn Hills/Murrysville and is at Pitt Law for one more year. I am originally from New Mexico so I can't say I was overjoyed at moving here and having to deal with snow and ice, traffic, "the city", all the hills, and IMO, bad roads. ;) OK OK but I've stopped complaining since then (really I have!) and am doing better with it all! DH laughed at me the other day cause I was out running around without a coat and it was 40* - he said I finally got used to the weather. Maybe he's right!
Oh and yes, now I am a diehard Steeler fan, too! LOVE THEM STEELERS! Everyone excited about Denver this Sunday?? WOW, I'm DYING to see what will happen!

It's just so great for Pittsburgh. It will be so fun to see the town pull together for the next 2 weeks. And you know what? It feels like we can actually do it this time! WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! That is so cool! It was so fun growing up with the "Steel Curtain". In the school where I work the kids are just so geeked and it is a blast. My daughter is all into the "one for the thumb" and I love that. It is so exciting and I am looking forward to the HOOPlah! Even though I think we can so get over EVERY news story being related. That cracks me up! They broke into some show today when I was in the dentist's office and I thought it would be Sally Wiggins having found another dog who knit his own black and gold sweater!

I'd like to know how many of you have purchased something Steelers since the AFC Championship Game..............
Feel the buzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
philnikki
01-26-2006, 11:15 AM
Oh geez - I have purchase a few things. Mostly for Ava, but a t-shirt for myself! Now I need to find something for the superbowl! At the Giant Eagle in Washington (where I do most of my grocery shoppin) they had these little bows put together in the floral department and I cut the long pieces off and put it in my hair last week and it turned out pretty cute ;)
I just got these sent to me, so I thought that I would share:
Peyton Manning, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Colts flag in the window. "This house is yours for eternity, Peyton," said God.
"This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here." Peyton felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a 3 story mansion with a black and gold sidewalk, a 50 foot tall flag pole with a enormous Steeler flag and in every window a Terrible Towel.
Peyton looked at God and said, "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I was an all-pro quarterback, I hold many NFL records, and even went to the Hall of Fame."
God said, "So what's your point Peyton?"
"Well, why does Ben Rothlisberger get a better house than me?"
God chuckled, and said, "Peyton, that's not Ben's house, it's mine."
Our Father... Blitzburgh Style
Our Father, who art in Pittsburgh, football be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, 4 Super Bowls won, on earth as it is in Heinz Field.
Give us this day a SuperBowl 5 , and forgive us our penalties,
as we defeat those who play against us.
And lead us into a victory, and deliver the SEAHAWKS to us. Amen
GO STEELERS!!!

Sorry it took me so long to join up here...I had checked before to see if there was a thread for Pgh gals but there wasn't. (Shame on you, Nikki for not telling me this was here! ;) ) I'm near Robinson/Moon, but who knows which direction we'll go when we decide to buy a house.
GO STEELERS!!!! Just a few more hours to go! :D

Hehe! Didn't cry but certainly the alcohol wasn't helping in that department. Didn't go to sleep until about 3! :) No wonder it's been a rough week!

I didn't realize there was a Burgh thread either!
I also live in Washington- live and work in the city of Washington. I grew up here and moved back after college.
Someone said their kiddo goes to Washington Peds- I LOVE that practice.
