fwgirl - There's an SI cover with your team on the cover too. There are four this week. Obviously, you know which one I like. ;)

Looks like it will be another great year of college b'ball. Sooooo much more exciting than the pros, IMO.

They sound like fightin' words!!! :D We'll see!!

And I totally agree, college b-ball is so much more exciting that pro. I really can't stand to watch a pro game. Plus I get all confused because of the different rules (6 fouls!?!?!).

Let's GOOOOOO Mountaineers!!!

Heartbreaking loss to Texas the other night...still can't believe that we missed all those free throws down the stretch. And how annoying that the UK/WVU game was only on ESPNU last night...I had never heard of this channel, and of course, we don't get it! I'm a WVU alum, but my first love...is UK basketball!!! I would've been very torn watching the game last night. Love...college...basketball!!!!!

Oooh, I'm glad I found this thread! In my state, college basketball is of vital importance. I'm totally rooting for Duke (my brother went to high school with JJ Redick) but not around DH, who hates Duke with an undying passion (just as I hate his team, the UNC Tarheels).

How fun, a Duke/UNC rival in your home!!! I dated someone in HS who was a UNC fan. Deep down I knew it would NEVER work out!! ;)

I just love JJ. Amazing player. Plus, he's become pretty good looking over the past couple of years! How exciting that your brother went to school with him!

LOL, it's fun until UNC plays NC State, which is my *real* team. Then, not so fun. Last year when they won the Championship? Miserable. I'm rooting for Duke this year because of Redick. My brother was a senior when JJ was a freshman. I despise UNC (you gotta either love them or hate them), but most of my family and coworkers are fans.

I'm finally getting to see my Hoosiers play tonight! :) When I was Indiana, I would get to see every single game on tv. Now, in Texas, I hardly ever get to see them. I've gotta say...they're looking GOOD! I didn't see the first half (Lost was on!), but even though they're losing by 9, they're still looking good!

The last time I saw the Hoosiers and Duke play was in 2002 (the last time they played, I believe) in that beautiful Sweet 16 game! I was so pumped that game! I was in Atlanta that year, and was so upset I couldn't go to the final game (although not so disappointed when they lost to UConn).

It's really weird being in a state where college basketball isn't what life revolves around. That's pretty much all there is in Indiana, and in Texas, it's alllllll football (which is okay by me, too!).

Ok...you are totally right, there! When I lived there, the Colts weren't so hot. When I was in school, HS and college football were big (ok...so football wasn't so big at Indiana!! :p ), but basketball...basketball was LIFE! Everyone wanted to play for Bobby Knight. It was all about IU vs. UK or Purdue.

Here...yeah, people cheer for the Rockets and I occasionally here some talk about the college BB teams, but football is 99% of the talk (except when the Astros were in the WS!). And...highschool football??? Definitely the equivalent of Indiana's highschool basketball!!

Anyway...didn't mean to diss Indiana sports! ;) I'm just excited about my Hoosiers (and am not a Colts fan! :D ).

Cause he's a f'up. Why in the hell is he in the game in the final seconds if he can't make free throws? That pisses me off so much. I really can't stand him, if you want my honest opinion. I think he plays some really terrible ball out there. And he should be shooting 200 free throws a day until his form gets better. He shoots free throws like someone who's never seen a basketball before.

My boys don't play yours until Feb. 18th but it will be on CBS. Big East is so clearly the best conference now (albeit too big). My concern is that the BE teams are going to beat up on each other so much during the regular season that March could get tricky. WVU should be playing UConn twice this season -- they're too good to have been given "the bottom half of the league" for scheduling. UConn plays the tough teams (if you can call 'Cuse tough this year) twice except for WVU. They were seriously underrated in the beginning of the season but UConn fans knew they would be GOOD. I look forward to the game on the 18th -- should be a tough one.

kd 9.21.02 - I didn't know that was the way the scheduling was done this year. Hmmmm...I guess that I didn't realize that playing Pitt, UC, and Georgetown twice was the "the bottom half of the league"...interesting. The Big East is just packed full of good teams. And I hope we always play Pitt twice every year, since they're such a huge rival. And based on the games that I've watched this year, I agree that UConn is the best team that I've seen. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens in Mo'town on the 18th!!! Oh, how I wish I had tickets!!!! I'm hoping the outcome leads to some couch burning!!! :D

I haven't looked at your schedule in detail but I've heard some Big East-ers saying that WVU should have been given the same kind of schedule as, let's say, Syracuse for example b/c WVU is SO good. You only play UConn once and G'town was actually bottom half of the league earlier --- now they're doing well which is SO good to see. We have to play Villanova twice, which is tough. We get the easier teams (NOT referring to WVU here) only once. It's all a big mess since we're now 16 teams.

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State basketball coach Jim Wooldridge will have surgery Wednesday to remove a bulging disc in his neck, and it is uncertain when he will return to the team.

Assistant Jimmy Elgas will be the interim coach, school spokesman Tom Gilbert said Monday.

Wooldridge will definitely miss Wednesday night's home game against Iowa State. The disc problem caused numbness in his upper and lower extremities.

Release: 02/08/2006

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State head coach Jim Wooldridge underwent successful neck surgery on Wednesday afternoon at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kan.

Doctors removed a bulging disk in Wooldridge's neck and fused the C3-4 vertebrae in the near two-hour surgery. He was suffering from a "significant disk protrusion" at the C3-4 vertebrae in his neck, which was creating pressure on his spinal cord causing numbness in his upper and lower extremities. Wooldridge, 50, will remain hospitalized tonight and will be released on Thursday.

Wooldridge's return to coaching will be dictated by the speed of his recovery as well as medical clearance from his physician.

Assistant coach Jimmy Elgas, 34, will serve as the team's interim head coach in Wooldridge's absence in tonight's game against Iowa State at Bramlage Coliseum. Elgas is in his sixth season at Kansas State, including his fourth as an assistant coach.

Individuals interested in sending get-well wishes to Wooldridge should send those to the men's basketball office at 1800 College Avenue, Bramlage Coliseum, Manhattan, KS 66502.

I'm sure this will ruffle some feathers but coaches should win National Championships with their own, fully recruited, teams. :) THAT is what shows, they as a coach, have the full package. You need to be able to recruit AND win with the players you have put the money and confidence in.

With that said, I'm glad that Bill now has a team that is all his except for a couple which aren't starters.

This is why UConn's Calhoun is in the HOF. Unlike Coach K, who takes McDonald's All Americans and does as well as he should with them but then the players don't prosper in the NBA, Calhoun takes decent players, makes them great, AND prepares them to dominate in the NBA. Of course I'm biased but these are facts. :)

Some of the greatest college players ever have been lousy pros--they are very different "animals." Size is much more a factor in the NBA--I think the college game is a superior one.

Coach K is a great coach--I would never say otherwise. As for "dominating" n the pros, well, let's compare former tar heels to former huskies, shall we? Not. Even. Close. :cool:

I am not saying Coach K isn't a great coach - he most certainly is. And seems like a good guy too. But I do believe my Huskies have the better coach of the two. Again, I know I'm biased but the last 10 years of playing against him in big games backs up my case. ;)

I was not comparing UConn players in the NBA to Heels in the NBA (I was talking about former Dukies). But I'd say former UNC and UConn players from the last 10 or so years in the NBA are actually quite close. [Jordan doesn't count as more than one player just because he's so freakin' fabulous. ;)] Sure, UNC has an undeniable history of b'ball greatness -- I can only hope my team gets up there in the coming decades. But recent history? UConn is there. Very much so. No, we're not the college b'ball blue bloods with NCs from LONG ago. But now?
Not. Even. Close.
I have tons of respect for your boys - and for you - but you're kidding yourself.

Ray Allen
Caron Butler

Current UNC NBA players: Antawn Jamison, Marvin Williams, Vince Carter, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Raymond Felton, Sean May, Brendon Haywood, Rashad McCants, Jeff McInnis--and I think I'm leaving someone out. . .

I won't even go back in time--that wouldn't be fair. ;)

And I'm totally just talking smack for fun--I like to run my pro-UNC yap!

So you named four more players than I did and that makes UConn in the pros "NOT. EVEN. CLOSE." ??? ;) And for the record, I too am leaving a bunch out but can post them if you like. I only listed my personal faves (two of which are friends from college).

I won't even go back in time--that wouldn't be fair. ;)

True, true. I already said as much. ;)

Bottom line: UConn fans are, generally, rooting for UNC. Ever since your students declared a "RIP Hamilton Day" on campus after we beat Duke in '99 we have to love you guys.

BTW: I went to Chapel Hill for the UNC-UConn game in '04. I LOVED it. The atmosphere was awesome. My dad is friends with the women's swim team coach so we got a great tour of the UNC Athletic Hall of Fame. AMAZING!!!! We also met that older woman who is an INSANE Heels fan. She's shown on TV sometimes during the tourney. She's my idol. I intend to be just like her (but for my Huskies) when I'm 85. Did you know her pool is in the shape of a Tar Heel?!?!?!

YES! ESPN.com had a little paragraph on the wedding. According to the write-up, they served corn dogs, Domino's pizza, Big K soda and macaroni and they had karaoke for entertainment. Okla. St. Coach Is Cited With DUI (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060213/ap_on_sp_co_ne/bkc_sutton_accident;_ylt=AlIG9i0tizkV7PMXz5CHDQcky bQF;_ylu=X3oDMTBjMHVqMTQ4BHNlYwN5bnN1YmNhdA--)

By KELLY KURT, Associated Press Writer
Mon Feb 13, 1:13 PM ET

Eddie Sutton was cited with driving under the influence after he was injured in a car accident, and the Oklahoma State basketball coach will take a medical leave for the rest of the season.

Friday's accident in Stillwater, along with chronic back and hip pain, prompted the 69-year-old coach's decision, the school said Monday. Sean Sutton, his son and head-coach designate, will finish this season as coach. Oklahoma State was home Monday night against Kansas. The university said no decision has been made on who will coach next season.

Sutton was hospitalized overnight for a head injury and released Saturday after the two-vehicle accident. The occupant of the other SUV received minor injuries and was released at the scene, officers said.

In a statement released by the university, Sutton said that "with my deteriorating physical condition and other issues, I have been under a tremendous amount of stress."

The coach said he had been close to taking a medical leave after a Feb. 4 trip to Kansas State because "the pain in my back was making it very difficult to coach."

"After Friday's events, I know it is best to go on medical leave the remainder of the season to address my future health," he said. "It is very difficult to step away from the team. But I know they are in great hands."

Stillwater police cited Sutton after the accident but did not jail him on a complaint of driving under the influence because of a lack of physical evidence, the city's police chief said Monday.

Police are awaiting the results of blood tests that will confirm whether the coach was driving under the influence, Stillwater Chief Norman McNickle said. It could take six to eight weeks to receive the test results. Sutton was not given a field sobriety test at the time because he needed medical treatment, McNickle said.

It is generally expected that Sean will be the next head coach, so even though they haven't said anything official, I assume they just have to work out the details of a contract for him. I'm really sorry that things have to end this way for Coach Sutton. It's a very sad situation and certainly not the way we wanted to meet them tonight on Big Monday. :(

ETA: Oh, and KU is finally ranked. :)

MU will investigate Snyder’s departure (http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/13870429.htm)
By MIKE DeARMOND
The Kansas City Star

Elson Floyd, University of Missouri systems president, has ordered UM-Columbia Chancellor Brady Deaton to investigate the resignation of basketball coach Quin Snyder.

“That is right,” Mary Jo Banken, head of the University News Bureau, told The Star on Tuesday morning. “Brady Deaton has been asked to talk to Gary Link concerning his conversation with Quin Snyder. He will do that.”

As The Star first reported, multiple sources have said MU athletic director Mike Alden directed Link, who is his special assistant as well as the color commentator on MU basketball broadcasts, to inform Snyder that he would be fired at the end of the current season.

Link has consistently declined to discuss the matter publicly.

Alden, on Sunday, denied doing that, saying he asked Link to talk with Snyder on Thursday to “kind of see how he’s doing, gauge how he’s doing.”

Earlier on Thursday, prior to his conversation with Link, Snyder had said he would not resign, that he would coach the MU basketball team until he was told he could not do so.

Alden said he was surprised when, on Friday, Snyder informed his players that he would no longer be their coach.

Reached by cell phone shortly after noon Tuesday in California, Alden said that Deaton had called him on Monday night and informed Alden that Deaton would be investigating the allegations.

“Brady’s my boss,” Alden told The Star. “I understand and I don’t have much of a reaction beyond that.”

However, when asked if he was concerned he might be in danger of losing his job as athletic director, Alden said: “Who, me? No, no, no, no. I look forward to moving forward on this.”

HOT game between Nova and UConn--could be foreshadowing for the Madness!

It was a maddening game for a UConn fan to watch. The second half was like watching Nova on repeat -- they ONLY shoot the three. They don't go inside. I'm so upset at my Huskies for not shutting down the perimeter. But, UConn won't make the same mistakes twice. We could very well see Nova three more times this year (at home on the 26th, during Big East tourney and possibly during NCAA tourney) and I like our chances in any rematch.

While I'm a bit sad today, there's no shame in losing to #4 at their place. Especially against a team as hungry for Husky blood as Nova was. Every year I have to remind myself... a loss in February is not nearly as painful as one in March. Moving on...

I only caught the end of the UCONN / Nova game, as we didn't turn over there until just before the KU game, but it was definitely a good one. And there is most certainly no shame in losing to # 4 on their home court. Even though it sucks when your team is on the losing end, they should have won that one.

Definitely agree with this. Personally, I liked Davis. I listened to his resignation speech and felt horrible for him because of how the fans, alumni, and booster clubs treated him. With such a tradition in basketball, people in this state want wins no.matter.what. I wish Mike Davis the best, and I always will. I will say, though, that I liked Davis more than Knight - however, I'm in the minority.

As for who they get - all eyes are on Steve Alford in Iowa. We'd all be happy with that, probably. He's "one of our own," unlike Davis.

I went to IU... was a freshman the year Knight was fired (THAT was fun, let me tell ya!). I'm not a Knight fan, never really have been. I'm not too much of a Mike Davis fan, either. His first year was great - we made it to the championship game and everyone had high hopes for him as a coach.

But, in the most recent seasons, he just hasn't been doing that great. His little speech earlier this week about IU needing "one of our own" is a POS... Bobby Knight didn't go to IU or play for IU, and to say that we need "one of our own" to get support from the fans is just crazy. Fans would support the team regardless.

With Mike Davis as coach, IU didn't even make it to March Madness last year... we went to the NIT and were kicked out in the first round!!! IU bball fans are NOT used to that sort of thing. There's an expectation that the team will do well and they need a good coach for that to happen.

Also, Davis has always said he wants to coach the NBA... nothing like an agenda to pursue while coaching at the college level! One more thing - he's a cry baby!!!! Some of his facial expressions during the game drive me crazy. But, that might be my own personal opinion ;).

I'm excited to see who's going to come coach the Hoosiers! Let's hope the program gets back on track with someone new - whether they are associated with IU already or not!

I think most people are looking forward to Hoosier success again, but after the official resignation (which was more than gracious), I almost feel ashamed to be a Hoosier. Davis didn't win our games for us, no. That makes us mad. However, that man dealt with more crap than anyone in the town of Bloomington. He wasn't given a fair shot by anyone - especially not the fans.

Today brings a mass exodus of players, too. We're going to lose our seniors, of course, but also, two players - Robert Vaden and DJ White -have pretty much said they're following Davis. A recruit (can't remember his name) has already said he's no longer interested in IU. It'll now be a great fall out. Of course, in a few years, things will be okay again (well maybe - even if Steve Alford comes to IU and doesn't win 55,000 games in his first season, people will complain), but until then, IU basketball is ... pretty down.

I was happy (and relieved) to watch my Huskies beat West Virginia on Saturday. Phew! Thank goodness.

I was not happy to see one of my favorite players flip the bird to the student section during a nationally televised game. Shame on him.

Well... Why would he do such a thing? Because a fan in the WV student section clearly yelled "Go back to Africa." (I've watched that segment of the game a few times since. It's clear as a bell.)

Correct me if I'm wrong. This is 2006, right? Bigots should be wise enough to keep their racist opinions to themselves, should they not?

UConn's Hilton Armstrong has taken the high road and issued a formal apology to WV fans, both teams, etc. But the WV athletic dept is staying mum and refuses to issue a statement, presumably because the comment was from one fan who - of course - does not represent the opinions of the school and its student body as a whole. But shouldn't WV's AD take the opportunity to separate his school from racist remarks? I know he is ashamed of the remark, is embarrassed for his school and is NOT responsible for it. But I'd still like to hear it.

I was away this weekend and only got the full story yesterday so that's why I'm posting about this game now.

As a WVU alum, I'm beyond embarrassed. I'm going to go now and visit some of the WVU fan boards and the WVU student newspaper to see what the dealio is with not issuing some kind-of statement. I seriously cannot express how embarrassed I am.

And on top of that...We've lost 3 straight and 4 out of our last 5 games. Playing like some serious booty (sans the UConn game, which I thought they played the best that they have in awhile). Not promising this late in the season. Of course, we have been getting lots of help from teams ranked ahead of us losing as well, but that doesn't make up for our lousy showings as of late.

And for me, there's nothing sweeter than a victory over Pitt. I'm so happy that we won last night! And did y'all see Pittsnogle's new baby was there?!?! :eek: Maybe, I'm just a paranoid Mommy, but I didn't take my son out in "public" for at least 6 weeks.

Your win last night helped secure our Big East #1 seed IF UConn and Villanova win out this week.

Pittsnoggle's new baby was also at the WVU-UConn game on Feb. 18th. Yikes! Such a teeny-tiny baby for a rowdy game.

Did you see how they spell the baby's name... something like Kwinsie instead of Quincy so that the baby has the same initials as his daddy.

Craziness! I couldn't imagine taking my DS to a b-ball game as an infant...actually, I couldn't imagine ME going to a game that soon after having a baby! And I saw his name had lots of vowels and stuff in it. :rolleyes: To each, their own I guess...

We finish out our regular season at UC this Saturday, and one of my friends that lives in Cincy emailed me this morning to tell me that Huggins is going to walk out on the floor with Eric Hicks for Senior Day!!!! :eek: I can't believe that he's actually going to show his face in Cincy...much less at a UC b-ball game! He definitely has gall. Wonder who he'll be cheering for...since he is a former Mountaineer. ;)

This is the debate taking place on the UConn fan board that I follow. I'd love to see another B.E. team in the top two, but many people believe they'll still give it to Duke. Hmm... we'll see. I feel like Nova should get it (based on the comparisons of the teams Nova and Duke lost to) but rarely is it that fair. Duke may very well keep that #2 spot :rolleyes:.

This year's tourney is going to be very interesting. While I'm wishing/hoping/praying that my Dogs hang on for 10 more games, there are really a number of good teams that could end up in the Final Four.

Tomorrow is UConn's Senior Day. I'm so psyched to go but very sad to say goodbye to Rashad Anderson and Hilton Armstrong, two of my favorites, along with Denham Brown and others.

If there are, they currently hiding! I'm not specifically a Dukie hater...I usually cheer against any ACC team, so I spread my loathing around. :p Kentucky is my 2nd fav team (long story short: I had *always* wanted to go there and was all set to attend UK, until my Mom had some health problems my Senior year of high school. So at the 11th hour, I decided to just stay in-state and go to WVU.), so I do harbor specific hatred towards the Devils...and anything Laettner-related.

I'm a huge Duke fan. Two losses were tough, but better now, than during the tournaments. I don't post here often because I don't like to always feel like I need to defend Duke. Fact is people hate Duke because they tend to always be a very strong team with an amazing coach. Also, I don't really hate any other college team (exept maybe UNC, but if you like Duke, its one of the requirements). ;)

I'm all for trash talking, but I usually like to have another person or two on my side, which in this thread it doesn't seem like there are any. So I will just patiently wait for the tourney to start and cheer on my Dukies!! I can't wait!

Mrs-Mac - I think we're all pretty "tame" in here, so you don't have to worry about anyone "bashing" you or anything for liking Duke (even though some may feel as though you do have an "illness" :p ). So, feel free to join in the smack talk! It's all in good fun, since we all share a common bond...we all love college b-ball! ;) I definitely have TONS of respect for Coach K (one of the classiest coaches, IMO) and the Dukies. Have you read John Feinstein's book "Last Dance: Behind the Scenes at the Final Four"? The author's a Duke grad, and I believe the book pretty much follows Coach K around during the Final Four. I'm thinking of picking it up, but I'd love to hear any feedback on it before I purchase.

We have another "date" with Pitt tonight...Let's goooooooo Mountaineers!!!

Okay, I've got us set up with a bracket competition on Yahoo!. I think that's what we did last year, and it's pretty easy to use. :)

Here are the details:

Group ID# 42765
Group Name CC March Madness
Group Password constantchatter

First things first, you need to select a team name. My Team name is KULawGirl. :D It can be anything you want, as long as it's not already taken. If you use something other than your CC name, as I did, please let us know here so we can connect you up.

Go to this link:

http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/

and click "Sign up".

Once you have your team name, you will need to use the Group ID# and Group Password to sign up for the group.

Go to this link:

http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men/register/joinprivategroup

Let me know if you experience any problems and/or need any assistance. You won't be able to start making your picks until the teams are announced tonight, but you can go ahead and sign up. :)

A little more about the contest:

Your goal is to accumulate as many points as possible by correctly picking the winning team in each of the games played during the college basketball tournament. Each correct pick earns points based on the tournament round, and the player finishing with the highest total wins each group.

You can make and change your picks as often as you like, but your final picks must be submitted by five minutes before the first game tips off on Thursday, March 17.

I don't know yet. But I must say that I'm confused about them giving Tennessee and UCLA 2 seeds. And Gonzaga earned higher than a 3 seed, IMHO. I thought we earned a 3 by winning the Big 12 Tourney, but whatever.

However, I firmly agree with all four choices for 1 seeds. They definitely earned those spots this season.

I am officially a nervous wreck and sick to my stomach until early April. Survive and advance from here on out. I think (hope, pray) that UConn has a six-game winning streak in them. But we need our guys to show up for 40 minutes. Luckily, any one of our best 8 can take over a game and get it done for us. I'm hoping our depth carries us through and proves to be our biggest advantage against opponents.

Congrats to my fellow Big East-ers! First time in history of the tournament that a conference has had 8 - count 'em EIGHT - teams going to the Big Dance. That's impressive - especially considering it would have been nine if Cincy had been given fair credit.

I'm not happy with a 4 seed in a far away spot (particularly since NC, whom we beat twice, got a 3), but oh well. It's a much different level of anxiety wondering where you'll go, rather than if you'll be invited at all.

Apparently, it looked worse than it turned out to be. Something about the eye lid going behind the eye (which was easily fixed) making it look absolutely awful. People on the UConn fan board said they were sorry they rewound the game on TiVo to replay the injury. I haven't been able to see any of the game, but the score looks great. :)

I can't keep track of all of my brackets...I think I picked the UW-Mil to win in all 3, but not sure! Gooooooo Panthers!

I think I picked Seton Hall in my CC bracket. :( But you know what? Last year my CC bracket sucked - BIG TIME - and I still ended up in third. Hopefully I can repeat that luck this year! :)

The Cats gave y'all a great game yesterday. Sparks played his heart out! I was really proud of them, even though they lost.

And my 'Eers are in the Sweet Sixteen for the 2nd year in a row! Woo hoo!!!

Yeah, Tubby Smith said his team played their best game ever. Luckily for me, that wasn't UConn's best performance. It was a great tourney game. FINALLY... UConn plays UK. That was the first time ever, can you believe it?

Congrats to my fellow Big East-ers! We're 1/4 of the Sweet 16! Not too shabby.

~~~~~
Now for something slightly OT... All my life I've wanted to see the UK cheerleaders in person since they're the best in the country (full scholarships and all that). Well, I finally get to see them in Philly on Friday and Sunday and all NCAA cheerleaders are basically grounded because of that Southern Illinois cheerleader incident. I just could NOT wait to see UK's basket tosses and whatever other sick tricks they have. But for this year's tournament, cheerleaders are not allowed to basket toss (that's where they launch the girl really high and she flips, kicks, twists and/or toe touches) or build pyramids more than two people high (a pyramid needs to be at least 2 1/2 high to be at all impressive). So I was bummed about that. But the UK cheerleaders were still pretty fun to watch. Even their partner stunts are so much better than the other teams.
It is crazy that UConn and UK had never played before yesterday. And re: the UK cheerleaders...they are awesome. I was able to attend the UK/Morehead State game last year in Lexington, and it was a "festival of awesome cheerleaders". UK blew Morehead away on the court, so I found myself watching both teams incredible cheerleaders a lot! Ha!
And how "dirty" is Carl Krauser from Pitt? I was getting so pissed watching him during their game yesterday with Bradley. Today in our newspaper, there's a *classic* quote from Bradley's Tony Bennett on the trash-talking of Krauser:
He had a few words, but I had the best choice of words. I told him to have a nice trip home.
Love it!
I wish games were going on during the day so I could watch at work to make the time fly. :) I love March Madness -- the most wonderful time of the year (that is, as long as my Huskies are still in it).
We're driving down to D.C. tomorrow afternoon for our late game at 9:57 (who picks these random times, BTW?). I can NOT wait - but I'm also very nervous. UW wants to pay us back for RIP's last second shot in '98. (BTW, you can see me on the court whenever they replay this shot on TV -- which will be a lot between now and tomorrow night's game - tehehe.)
Hey, girlies! It feels like it's been forever since the last tournament game! I'm so glad Thursday is finally here! :)
Big news for my Kansas State Wildcats - we're hiring Bob Huggins. DH and I are so totally excited about this it isn't even funny. I think it will be really good for the Big 12 as a whole, not to mention good for K-State. We need someone who can get us back up to snuff and competitive again. :D
Lawyer: Huggins accepts Kansas State job (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2380885)
By Andy Katz
ESPN.com
Former Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins has accepted a five-year contract to coach Kansas State, his attorney, Richard Katz, told ESPN.com on Thursday morning.
Katz said he and Huggins were on their way to Manhattan, Kan., for a news conference later Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kansas State spokesperson Tom Gilbert told ESPN.com that he hadn't been told as of early Thursday morning to prepare for a news conference.
Why Kansas State?
"He feels that Kansas State has the potential to be a top 10 program," Katz said of Huggins' decision. "The Manhattan university community has embraced him and wants him to be the head coach."
Huggins, who was forced out of Cincinnati last August, will replace Jim Wooldridge, who was fired after the Wildcats lost to Texas Tech in the Big 12 tournament opening round earlier this month.
Well, what are you wearing, so we can be on the "lookout" for you?!?! :p And I'm SOOOO jealous that you're going to the games! And here, I've been excited to watch the games in Hi-Def this year (first year for our cable company to offer CBS in Hi-Def).
lawyerlee - Best of luck with Huggins! Let's hope he'll be on his "best behavior" at K-State. ;)
lawyerlee, it should be interesting. I think he will help the program, at least I hope, and that is coming from a Jayhawk. My DH can't stand Huggins, just thinks he's slimy so we'll see.
So heartbroken this morning. What a game...actually, what a bunch of games last night! 3 of the 4 were real nail biters. I guess if I *had* to "pick" a way for us to lose, this would be the way to gracefully exit the tourney. Our 2 "main" guys came through for us down the stretch (Gansey hitting a 3 with less than 30 seconds left, and then, Pittsnogle's clutch 3 with just 5 ticks remaining), but hats off to Texas. Paulino's buzzer beater was definitely one for the history books. *sigh* I just can't believe we came *this* close to back-to-back trips to the Elite Eight. Oh well, it was a GREAT WVU basketball season, and there's no need to hang our heads. I'll definitely miss all of the seniors...they've given me some terrific memories. Actually, I think everyone will always remember Pittsnogle...and the transformation of his name into a verb! I'm very proud to call myself a Mountaineer! ;)
Let's hope the games tonight are as exciting as last night's!!!
I am not a JJ fan - actually, I'm the opposite of a JJ fan - but I didn't get the pleasure I thought I would from watching him cry.
I have to say though, I'm glad Adam Morrison and JJ are out of the tourney. Enough talk about two fabulous INDIVIDUAL players. Now we can talk about the fabulous TEAMS that are left. No one or two players can take their team to the final rounds of the tourney -- unless of course they make the players around them better as well.
GO UCONN!!!
Last night's results were suprising. I missed the whole damned thing. Probably for the best, since I'm the world's worst sports crybaby. At Coach Snyder's last K-State football game I bawled like a baby the whole damned time. :o
Though I guess I did wonder who the hell Duke could match against Big Baby. He's such a freaking stud. And an inspiring young man. :)
ITA! LSU looked VERY strong. And I think I'm a huge Tyrus Thomas fan now. :) He was getting me pumped up just watching him! And he's only a freshman?!?! I thought he was going to jump right out of the Georgia Dome...that boy has some SERIOUS "ups"!!! He only had 5 blocks, but to me, it seemed like he had a lot more.
Last night was too much.
I was so excited for LSU, was amazed by the Texas/WVU game... then Gonzaga. Holy Smokes! I had picked UCLA on my bracket but I secretly wanted the Zags to win and get past their Sweet 16 curse. I thought they had it. I was cryin' right there with Morisson. How did they let that game slip away?
Ugh. Sports. It's so emotionally draining.
I don't know if I have it in me to watch tonight. I love the UW Huskies, but I had them loosing to ILL. They've got too much youthful inexperience on this team. Dunno if I can take another heartbreaker.
Wow, the games last night were amazing! I also felt bad for J.J. and Adam Morrison, I'm just a big softie.
We are so pumped for the Wichita State game tonight. I was just out and about and the whole town (practically) is wearing gold and black t-shirts. It's just so crazy around here.
