A good friend of mine is in town for one night (she lives 3000 miles away). I'm delighted we're meeting for dinner, but it's at the same time as the BC/Nova game! And I haven't seen her for six months, so it can't be a sports bar catch up.

Oh, the humanity...

lawyerlee, I pitched a fit too when we lost, don't get me wrong. But its over. The fans that kill me are the ones that are still ranting about it a week later and all that fans that will STILL be talking about it next season. :)

Yeah, dude, that's totally lame. You should have heard the crazy rumors flying around Lawrence this week, especially that Brandon Rush and Julian Wright are headed for the draft. Um, are you kidding me? That's really what I'm worried about. ;)

I'm sad for Wichita State. They tried so hard, but just couldn't get over the hump. :(

That was just crazy. Until it was officially over, I just kept thinking that UConn would find a way to win. I can't believe a team widely considered a bubble team came into the tournament and pulled off these victories. It's pretty freaking awesome. :)

What a weekend! I'm still in shock about UConn and Nova losing. And I'm really enjoying watching LSU play...the more I watch them, the more I like them! And would you believe that I came *this* close to winning my office pool?!?! I can still finish second (20% of the moo-lah), if UCLA makes it to the championship game. So now, I'm torn...I really like LSU's team, but UCLA wins me some monies. What's a girl to do? ;)

I'm in 7th place in the office pool no matter what happens, so I'm cheering on George Mason and LSU! :)

I'm heart broken about UConn. We were at the game and I too believed they'd find a way to pull it off. Once we went into OT, I thought we had it and would start to play UConn b'ball and GMU would be tired. I also thought UConn should have gone inside on that last shot. Would have either gotten the basket and one, just the basket, or just the foul. Oh well. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. I'm terribly sad. Couldn't sleep last night. And am actually working from home today because I'm still so nauseous.

I totally empathize, kd. Sports losses can really hurt--I have gone through some very painful losses, and even though I try to have perspective, it sure feels better when your team wins!!!!

MY DH still can't watch the clip of Duke beating Kentucky in the NCAAs back in the day--it makes him physically ill! And it makes no differnce that UK has won the championship since then--it still kills him. And , ohmygod, don't get me started on old Celtics losses--those are even worse for DH!

I'm so sorry, kd. :( It stinks so bad when your team loses like that. I think the closer you are to something big, the worse it hurts. In 1998, K-State hadn't lost a football game all season and was in position to play for the National Championship. We found out during the Big 12 Championship game that UCLA had lost, so we were like, "This is it!" We lost the g-damned game in OT. Old men were crying. I still can't deal with it. :( Just to say that you're not alone. ;)

Well, I'm glad to "hear" that there are so many other women "programmed" like me...where sports' losses hurt in a way that's so hard to explain (especially to those that *gasp* don't follow sports like us). :)

This tournament has been amazing. I was just reading in the Times that only four people on ESPN's brackets have picked the final four correctly. I am licking my wounds after Duke's and Nova's losses and will be concentrating my energy on rooting for GMU.

Oklahoma's Kelvin Sampson is leaving the school to become the next head coach at Indiana, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

Sampson already told OU athletic director Joe Castiglione of his plans and met with the Sooner team Tuesday afternoon.

A press conference announcing his hiring at Indiana could take place as early as Wednesday afternoon in Bloomington.

Sampson replaces Mike Davis, who took over for Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight in 2000.

Very scary indeed. I had a friend from high school die of something similar a few years ago - he was 26 years old, healthy and athletic - no warnings at all. So sad for her family, I remember them talking about her during the tournament since her brother was coaching too. Just tragic. :(

Ladies
I work at West Point and have several of the players in my class. Please keep the girls and the Dixon Family in your prayers. The community is devestated esp the freshmen girls. It is so hard to explain what a different place USMA is and what a huge impact she had on all the cadets here. She was a truely amazing person, coach and leader. They had a memorial for her today to try and let the girls begin the healing process.

*whew!* We dodged a bullet...Beilein is staying at WVU. (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2423256)

What is going on at NC State? Something smells fishy to me, because everyone keeps turning the coaching job down. The one that really surprises me is Steve Lavin. I thought he would jump at the chance to coach there and leave broadcasting in the dust. Of course the rumor here is that Lavin thought Beilein was definitely going to take the job, so he withdrew his name from consideration. If that's true, I bet Lavin is kicking himself now after hearing that Beilein turned the Wolfpack down.

More rumors here indicate that Coach Beilein leaving for Raleigh was a "done deal"...until he ran into "tax issues" with the way NC State was going to provide him the funds to pay his $3M buy-out on his current WVU contract. He recently fired his agent (not sure if it was b/c his poor handling of this or the Indiana "mess"), and I was just talking to my smarty pants best friend who is a tax attorney. And she was describing a way that Beilein could've avoiding the "tax issues" that he was running into. I told her that he should hire her to be his agent. :) But as a selfish Mountaineer, I'm glad that Beilein is staying put...at least for one more year.
