Has anyone ever heard of or seen a portable fence? We are renting and can't put up a permanent fence on the property, but would like a place for the puppy to run around outside off-leash while I'm out there gardening or whatever. He's not a big dog, so we don't need anything huge... any suggestions?

If you plan to supervise him, you could probably get away with constructing a snow fence: http://www.fence-it.com/snowfence/Snowfence_SF50.htm and some 4-5' metal stakes driven into the ground. It is NOT something that I would use to contain an unsupervised dog, however my ILs constructed a temporary pen from snow fencing when the city was replacing the water main in front of their house 2 summers ago (they live out on the outskirts of their town and can normally just let their dog run around the backyard without a fence).

I bought a folding fence at Petco--kinda of a portable play-yard. It was about $80. Not sure of exact height, but it is definitely above my waist when it's standing upright. I forget the name brand, but I'll check the tag and post it back here.
