Hi all! How exciting to be on our 2nd trimester thread - thanks for getting it started!!

Yesterday we had the NT test. It was very cool to see the little pipsqueak...but WOW that took a long time. And very uncomfortable on the full bladder. I was so happy, though, the tech was able to talk to the radiologist and then report back that everything looked normal on the scans. So now they just check the bloodwork too.

Happy weekend Everyone!! Welcome Parrothead!!!

QOTD (from last thread)-I have noticed that the past week or so, I have been getting terrible headaches. I am thinking it is from the cold that I have, but they really don't go away and I dont like it..

Back Pain-I get very bad back pain on Sundays...that's the day that I go to the mall and walk around, and its in the sciatica region. It usually helps when I lay down and apply heat to it...

I'm so excited for the new thread!! It means I'm "ALMOST" in my 2nd trimester!!:D

Hi Ladies! Hope ya'll are having a good weekend! Thanks mods for setting up the new thread!

headaches I had a few so far. I think it's due to me not drinking enough water.

back pain My sciatica has been acting up a ton lately. I finally broke down and called the Dr to see what kind of pain relief I could take. Man pills are a blessing.:D

Next appointment is Dec 9th.

We got a big bag of of clothes last night from friends of ours- a good mix of boy and girl clothes and tons of hand knitted booties. My mom's been shopping already- I bet in the next 2 weeks I'll be recieving a package from her.:D At this rate we'll need to buy a dresser real soon!

Ok nap time finally!:)

Here's to being in 2nd trimester tomorrow Standrea!!

Mrs. U hope you had a good nap. I went to sleep last night at 6pm (for a nap) and woke up this morning at 6:45am  - Guess our growing babies need lots of sleep!

Crazycaro Your pic of Ruby in your avator is priceless!! I am a researcher in movement control. After seeing that pic I thought, what a great way to show that aiming is not so accurate early in development :p

Off to teach 6th grade girls about the brain and build beaded neurons. Should be interesting . . . .

A BIG thank you to the moderators for starting the new thread!

This not pg or baby-related...But I wanted to ask everyone to keep me in their thoughts. I'm in a really difficult situation at work, dealing with a supervisor who has behaved inappropriately and unprofessionally. Yesterday afternoon, she bullied me into talking to her about it, despite me saying that I didn't want to talk. Never have I felt so cornered in my professional life. :( Anyway...I am dealing with the issues by going over her head to her supervisor because I feel that this is so serious. Obviously I can't go into much detail, but just cross your fingers with me that the issues will hopefully be resolved early next week. My hope is that she gets fired for her actions - they are really that serious. Not that I would ever want to feel responsible for someone losing their job...But I feel that I would have to quit my job if she continues to work there. The daily stress of seeing her and working with her would be too much. That would not be good for me or the baby. And that, ultimately is much more important.

Anyway...thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Kristin! We had lots of fun. They definitely were lots more enthusiastic than my college kids. Maybe my undergrad class would enjoy beading neurons :p

**
I had a horrible time sleeping last night, since DH woke me up to complain about my snoring. Ugh. How embarrassing!

So, I have a job related question for you ladies, too. I'm a part time college instructor, teaching freshman microbiology to ~100 students. I got offered my class again for next semester. I'll be six months pg when the semester starts and I'll be starting nursing school full time that semester as well. The university I teach at is about 45 minutes away from my home and over an hour away from the university that I attend as a student. My teaching duties would be on a Tuesday night, and I'll have an 8-4 schedule at nursing school that day. This means that I'll have a minimum of a 14 hour day. On Wednesday, I'll have a day full of labs and clinicals, so there will be no down time for me. I'm afraid I'll be taking on too much. I know I won't make it to final exams before having this kid, so there's also the problem about missing classes, etc. But, the extra cash from the teaching gig really helps us out. And, as much as my students make me want to rip my hair out, I genuinely love that job. So...should I teach, or should I quit?

shortcake
11-13-2005, 08:26 AM
Kristin - Wow big decision about the teaching job! It's nice that it's only once a week - will there be a lot of additional work as well (grading papers, etc)? Anyway, I guess you should find out what will happen when you are unable to continue teaching, as the odds are you won't finish out the semester. At 6 months, 7 months, even 8 months, you could feel fine to teach and if the money is needed I would go for it, as long as there is a way out when you need it! On the other hand, if you are unsure about missed days, etc, that could be a problem as there is a very real probability that will happen (what if you have the baby early? What if your doc tells you to take it easy at the end? both those things happen often enough). So I guess to me it would depend on the backup plan.

Em - Ugh about the situation at work! Keep us posted.

Guinness
11-13-2005, 09:02 AM
Kristin i am going to vote for you to do it. I would try to plan the semester for a heavy schedule early, and easier toward the end. I am planning my class so they have 3 exams and an optional final paper (due the day of finals). The 3rd exam will be 1 1/2 weeks before the last day of classes and I will give them the last week off (I always have a couple of recoup days built in, so this semester those will all be at the end). Can you do something like that? Then you have prepared for it being harder for you at the end. As with the going early etc., that of course could happen, but it won't only impact your teaching but also nursing school. In otherwords, you'll just have to deal with that when it happens. The other option you may think about is having a grad student 'help' teach and then have them do the last month of classes or whatever. I would be honest with the department head about the situation, and brain storm on a plan B. I would hope they would be supportive!!

shortcake
11-13-2005, 09:44 AM
Kristin - I just reread my post - I didn't mean for it to sound so negative! Overall I feel that as long as you can work it out with a good backup plan, I think you should do it!! Guinness made some great suggestions for making it work.

kristin9903
11-13-2005, 02:26 PM
Thanks Shortcake and Guinness! I appreciate the advice and I just don't know what to do!!

Answers to the questions:

Yes, there's a lot of outside work. I'm always redoing lectures and grading papers. I don't give multiple choice exams out of principle, so I spend a good chunk of exam week grading tests. I'm also responsible for proctoring missed exams, tutoring students, etc. I could change to a scantron test, but then I think that if I can't handle doing things the way I want to do them, then I should just not take the class.

Unfortunately, I don't get access to any of the grad students. If I did, the department would have to pay them, and they'll only do that when course enrollment exceeds 100 students. Seems like my enrollment always taps out at 95-98, so I never reach that magic level that allows me to get some help.

I'm going to talk to my doctor this week about what he thinks I can handle. I have to get a letter from him for nursing school, anyway, so hopefully he can give me some advice. After that, I'll talk to the department head. I've already talked to the dean at the nursing school and my stepmom (who teaches nursing at another college). They both strongly advised me not to take the teaching job.

Guinness The problem with walk dates is that my class meets once a week, and I consistently keep them the entire 3 hours. So, one cancelled lecture puts me waaaaaay behind. They have one walk date to work on their group projects at the end of the course, so that might help out a little. I know going early will impact both, which makes me think that I shouldn't take it since it will be hard enough to deal with the hurdles from one.

Sorry to take up the thread with my issues! :)

Guinness
11-13-2005, 03:46 PM
Kristin Well when you say an enrollment of 95-98, that is a whole different story. My undergrad class has 30 (piece of cake compared to that!). I require presentations, so I can chunk those at the end and the extra days are mostly since I teach a math intense class, I like to have extra days to do problems in case the majority of students have trouble. With almost 100 that flexibility is a bit more tough. You have to be completely prepared. If you have advice from nursing school folks, you might listen to them. They have a better grasp on how much time nursing school will take!! In the end your sanity is worth so much more than a few thousand that you make as an adjunct. I would just make sure you weigh all your options. The chair may be very flexible and happy to have you teach 1/2 and someone else teach 1/2 so the income impact wouldn't be as large. The worst he can say is no and then you will be in the same situation you are now. . .

I was wondering why it was so quiet, and then I realized that I never posted in this thread.

I went to the doctor's Thursday night. Got the whole special treatment...y'know...the pap smear. Fun! I never bled with DD when I had the pap done, so I was a little freaked out when I got home and was spotting. The doctor said that everything seemed just fine and "felt fine." I thought that was a little forward after having just met the guy. ;) I never had him in all the visits when I was pg with DD. Sadly enough, the next day in the paper there was an article about how he owes some lady millions of dollars for misdiagnosing a woman with ovarian cancer. Scary! But I know that with anything serious or life-threatening, you should get a second opinion. I learned that from my parents. This lady didn't bother to get a second opinion. It's still scary, though.

Next appointment: December 8. It'll be here before I know it! Wow! Time is flying.

Question for those of you with food aversions: If you have aversions to poultry, what are you going to do for Thanksgiving dinner? I hate to seem ungrateful, but I know I won't want to eat turkey.

Hi everyone.
i made it, even though i was a terrible poster in the last May 2006 mommies thread.

i am doing good, my worst complaint is back pain. does this mean i will have back labor? thats what people are telling me.

i had my dr's appt last week, went very well. everything came out great, and the best part was i got to hear the heartbeat. it was so great. hubby will be coming with me next time to hear it. my next appt is Dec 9.

i am 13w 6 days. i still cant believe i am almost 14 weeks preggo since i dont really feel preggo.

Welcome ParrotheadI'm assuming you're a Buffett fan. I just saw him in concert this past June. What a great show!

kristin9903 Good luck making your decision on what to do. I know it's a tough one. I'm just thinking wow 14 hour days that's alot. But who knows you could feel great. I know I felt great at 6 months pregnant.

Em I'm sorry you're going through this at work right now. I hope it gets resolved quickly and in your favor.

jarmGlad your appt went well. That's crazy about the Dr. getting sued. But you're right 2nd opinions are very important.

kmfroggi I don't think having back pain now neccesarily means you'll have back labor. I didn't have back pain during my pregnancy but I did have back labor(not fun).

I can't believe I'll be 14 weeks this week. It's really flying this time around. I'm getting so excited to find out the sex so we can start concentrating on names. I go back to the Dr. on the 29th and I'll get my slip then for my ultrasound.
I'm still tired as anything, if I don't get to nap during the day I'm a mess. I'm no longer getting up in the middle of the night to pee now it's 5 am.

HOpe everyone had a great weekend.

Hey ladies! Glad to see we are all making are way over to the new thread!

Em: Sorry you are going through such a hard time at work. I was told joking if things dont pick up one of us (there are three support staff at my office) could possibly lose their job. Ha ha. I happen to be the low person on the totem pole, so it would probably be me. Not that I would mind staying home, it's just a little sooner than both DH and I expected.

Kristin: Good luck! I'm usre whatever decision you make will be the right one for you and your family.

Welcome Parrothead!

I had major owies/ligament pain on Friday night. I couldn't sit, I couldn't lay down. I tryed a warm bath, everything. It was so bad I cried. Eventually I fell asleep, but woke up with it feeling even worse, so I took some tylenol and finally got some relief.

I have a question: Am I calculating my weeks right? By my count I am 14 weeks 6 days and even at Baby Center it says I am 14 weeks. So, I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow right? I saw my SIL on Saturday and she says I seem to be counting myself farther along than what I should be? She says that when she was due in May (the same week, a different day) she didn't reach 15 weeks until Thanksgiving? I'm so confused.

Yeah you can. You can also take Senekot - or that type of 'laxative'. You're not supposed to take any medicinal laxative though like Ex-Lax.

Hi ladies-

I wanted to check in and say hi! All here is still going very well. I had an appointment with the perinatologist today and we had a very long, wonderful ultrasound. We got to see the baby's arms and legs and stomach and bladder and both hemispheres in the brain- it was freaking amazing! Babe was sitting on his/her head with his/her legs crossed indian style for most of the u/s. Then s/he must have gotten ticked off from all the poking and prodding, because s/he started moving like a crazy person. :)

I'm feeling great! Knock on wood, this is has been a very easy pregnancy. I have my appetite back, my energy is getting better and my bb's are finally not quite as sore. In fact, I feel so good, I was very nervous that today's u/s would show things had gone downhill. I cried when I saw that little heartbeating away (153 bpm). Such a relief!

Anyhow- next appointment is 12/5.

I hope everyone is doing well- I'm going to make a real effort to be more active in this thread. We'll see how long that resolution lasts. ;)

Hope everyone is doing well! We went to Fla this past weekend to tell my in-laws and it was great- they cried and bought the baby all kinds of Disney dolls and books.

My dr said it was fine to take Citracal everyday if needed, out of all the fiber supp. I've tried I like their flavor the best.

I just realized I never updated our BIG u/s appt date!! It's Dec 19. My next appt. is Dec.2nd for the triple screen and I have to admit I'm having doubts now about having it done. Dh really wants to do this and based on the fact that he's adopted and we know nothing of his family's medical history it makes sense, I'm just so scared they'll find something wrong or I'll have to get an amnio done and something will go wrong from that. I still need to do some research on this- is anyone else having it done anytime soon?

shortcake
11-14-2005, 03:09 PM
ga girl - Glad you had a good time telling your in-laws! As for the triple screen - we did it with #1, and for this one we did the newer (NT test) test but would have done the triple screen otherwise. For me, I like to know as much information as possible, so that is why I did it. I know an amnio carries a risk, but for me, if I am concerned about something, I'd risk it for peace of mind. It's a very individual decision though!

Em - Oh no! Sounds like it's back labor for me. I had that with #1 and was hoping to avoid it this time around.

Cramping question Has anyone else had any cramping still/lately? I've had some slight cramping, like menstrual cramps only very minor. In fact I'm never sure if it's just that my back is sore! I have a dr. appt. on Thursday so I'll ask her about it then, but wondering if anyone else is having this.

I have started noticing a few along my jawline - and they most definitely haven't always been there! I asked my aesthetician (sp?) at my last brow waxing appt, and she said it can be very common among pg women...I was just wondering if I'm the only one?

Checking in. Thanks to the Modsfor setting up the new thread.

Fats I read you can use natural/powedered psyllum husk. This is the active ingrediant in metamucil. You can also buy it in "pure" form from a natural food store.

Em:I have hair growing on my chest and stomach, but losing hair from my head. Gotta love those hormones!

Welcome to the thread Parrothead!

I had my 15 week appt today. Just a few highlights
-I haven't gained any weight since my last appt. (but I'm still up 3-4 lbs since pre preg.) She said they like to see a 10 lb gain before week 20. That means I need to gain 6 lbs in 5 weeks?  I don't really need to gain that much, but shoot for 4 or so.

- My blood count is borderline. I need to add more meat to my diet. I said I eat a lot of spinach and she joked that I'd need about 6000 calories of spinach to make a difference.

- I told her I felt so good I practically don't feel pregnant. she listened to the h/b and said "with a h/b like that, I'm surprised you don't feel more pregnant." I liked hearing that. We also go to hear the h/b. I love that sound too, jennydinny!

-We asked about the AFP because we were so confused. Here is how she explained it: the NT is a new test that tests for down's and trisomy 18, but I still need to do the AFP because it tests for neural tube defects such as spina bifida and anecephaly. For all my paraonia at the beginning of the pregnancy, I somehow am not concerned about anything bad coming from these tests. Ga girl - I don't think that answers your questions, but that's my understanding/perspective. I'll be going the week of Nov. 28 for the AFP screen.

I also just booked my BIG ULTRASOUND for 12/16! It's a Friday morning. I plan to do some seriously indulgent shopping after that appt. :D

We told DH's parents this weekend. His mom saw the onesie I made and started crying. it was really sweet. His dad was in shock - even though we told them last NYE we'd start trying the end of this year (don't ask me why DH offered that up!). I also am torn now on my gender prediction. The Chinese charts all say girl, but odds seem to pointing to boy:
1. Dh's dad is one of 3 boys
2. DH is one of 2 boys
3. The ppl that own this HOUSE said it is cursed for only having boy babies and this STREET only has boys. She said there were 15 boys when she was raising her sons and NO girls. I know of three little kids, all under 3, on this street and they are ALL boys! Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Okay, that was a novel. Sorry about that.

Wow, a new thread and I haven't even caught up with the old one...better cut my losses and just start here while I'm only a little behind!

Thanks to the mods for starting this one! We appreciate all your efforts to keep this thread updated and moving along!

Just checking in to say I have finally lost that "I'm starving every 2 hours" feeling. Thank goodness, as I was afraid I'd be one of those women who gain 60 pounds during pregnancy (like my boss' sister). I'm still amazed how lucky I was to have never vomited once, as it seems like every time I tell someone new that I'm pregnant, they regale me with tales of parking themselves in the bathroom.

Still, the absence of vomiting combined with the intense hunger led to this 10 pound gain since my pre-preggo weight. So I'm already wearing maternity pants, as the normal pants that I bought 2 sizes bigger make my butt and hips look ridiculous. But I am glad to say I scored some great deals at the local Marshall's (which actually has a maternity section, unlike TJ Maxx or Ross--my other favorite discount stores). I am just too reluctant to spend a lot of money on clothes I can only wear for a few months.

The last bit of good news is that I'm finally feeling more energetic--being here on-line is proof enough as this is the first night I haven't been in bed by 8!

Hope you're all doing well!

Hi Everyone-

Sorry I have not been on here much. I love the new thread! I am so glad we are all in the 2nd trimester now. I had a pretty yucky weekend. I am still feeling pukey. I was sick with my DD for almost 7 months so I guess this one is going to do the same thing.

Sunday night I started spotting. It is brown so I know it is old blood but it still scared me. I also started having really bad cramps- like period cramps. I passed (TMI ahead) two quarter sized "clumps" of brown stuff. I called the Dr's office Monday morning and the nurse said that brown meant old blood (I knew that) and that they didn't worry unless it was bright red. Great.... that really did not help me relax any- I mean where did the old blood come from! Anyway, it has lightened up a bit but the cramping is still there. I have an appt next Monday so I guess all I can do is try to relax until then.

I guess everything else is going well. I am still about 5lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight so that is good. I am starting to sleep better also:) I realized last night that I need to start thinking about my daughter's "big girl" room pretty soon. The time really is flying!

Em7.31.04 That's interesting what your midwife told you about back labor. I did have back labor with my ds and do have a tilted uterus and also used to get back pain with my period. Hmmm. Great so I guess I have something to look forward to.

missy329 I know it's still scary even though you know it's old blood-I wonder if they'd bring you in sooner just for peace of mind? SOrry you're still sick hope you feel better soon.

Bloomwood With my last pregnancy I didn't get gain much weight until the very end. I even asked the Dr. about it at one point and he said look as long as the baby is growing that's what we're more concerned about. I think I only gained about 23 lbs last time. This time I have a feeling it will be much more.:D

Constipation=I was also told last time to take citracal-I would mix with a very large glass of water-I think drinking all that water also helped. I also started eating lots of pears when I had it last time.

Not much to report here just wanted to catch up before I fell way behind again.

I think it's time we start seeing some belly shots.:D I'll go if someone goes first.;)

I'm wearing maternity clothes today! Yikes.

Although I am not yet wearing maternity underpants. Last time I loved the parachute panties - those gigantic huge underthings that go up over your belly. They were so comfortable after about 24 weeks! But the pants I have gotten for the cold months definately are lower waisted, so I'm thinking of getting some low-rise maternity underpants.

Are you all hating my overuse of the term "underpants". :D

Hi all! Thanks to the moderators for the lovely new thread!

Sorry I've been MIA again. I STILL have a nasty head cold.

I had my 15 week appointment the other day. It went really well. I go back on the 23rd for my AFP. I'll schedule my level II u/s then. I can't do it until after we get back from Florida though. We're taking the girls to Disney until the 11th of December.

I'm pretty sure I've been feeling baby move for the past couple of days! It's always in the same spot (down low and on the left side) and feels exactly like it did with my first two. I'm really surprised I've been feeling it this early because I have an anterior placenta (on the front of my uterus) like I did with DD #2. I felt movement later with her which I attributed to that (around 19-20 weeks) whereas with DD #1 I felt movement at 16 weeks. I guess it's not so early since according to my doc I'm 16 weeks (though according to me I'm 15 w, 1 d).

Constipation-Citracal actually makes a prenatal vitamin http://www.citracalprenatalrx.com/index2.jsp. I've been using it because I had wicked problems with constipation with my first two pregnancies (TMI) and so far this really seems to be helping me.

Jen-Yay for bellyshots! There's no way I'm going first though. :p

missy-Sorry about the scare. I'm glad you's ok!

Bloomwood and Mrs U-Thanks for the onesie info!

smiles-Yay for not being hungry every two hours and for having more energy!

Bloomwood-Don't stress over weight gain, or lack of. I'm only up 2 lbs and I'm not stressing because I know it won't stay that way. :p Glad you got to hear the heartbeat!

Last time I loved the parachute panties - those gigantic huge underthings that go up over your belly.

LOL. My DH and our friends call them "granny panties".

Constipation: I second the Citracal prenatal.

Belly shots: I can't tell you how scared those words make me! Yikes! I know I should be happy and okay with this smudge that is caused by my baby, but its just hard.

Missy: I hope the cramping eases up.

Kim: I'm glad your appointment went well! I'm so jealous of a) the fact that you're going to Disney and b) the fact that you have felt your baby move, but mostly of "a". :p

DH and I just returned from a trip to Utah - what a beautiful state! I have always been plagued with motion sickness, but the flights out and the ride to the resort were especially bad. If morning sickness is anything like that, I give you ladies my deepest sympathies! I would not have made it if I had had m/s.

Belly shots - DH and I have been taking pictures every 2 weeks for a while now, but there's really no change yet (strange since nothing fits!), as soon as I have something to show, it will :)

Onesies - Thank you for the onesies info. I will definately have to get one for DH. His aunt dropped a bib by his office that says "I love my daddy" and he won't let me put it up yet - it is on our dining room table. He is so funny.

QOTD - Cats...Some of you have mentioned having cats in earlier posts. Are any of you concerned about your cat and the new baby? DH is paranoid that the cat is going to suffocate the baby and yesterday a co-worker told him her cat kept laying on her new baby and they had to get rid of the cat. Any of your repeat offender have a cat the last time? Any advice to offer?

Wow. How did we end up on page 2? Quiet morning...

Question for ya'll...

Does is sometimes hurt when you sneeze? I have had a few sneezes that made my stomach muscles twinge like I had done a MILLION sit-ups. My entire stomach area. Odd. It is gone like 3 seconds after I sneeze...

I am guessing it has to do w/ all the stretching of my stomach muscles, but has anyone else felt this? FYI, I am 14w, 3d.

mrsk
11-15-2005, 12:24 PM
Parrothead: Yeah, I've gotten that. It's just ligament pain/stretching.

I have another question: After talking with our corporate office about FMLA I started thinking, when should I start my maternity leave? Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

fats
11-15-2005, 12:59 PM
Parrothead I've been getting horrible pains whenver I sneeze almost from day 1. Mine doesn't feel like sit-up soreness though, mine is a sharp pain in my side, right where (I think) my ovaries are. It only lasts about as long as the sneeze lasts, but it kills!!

Great question mrsk!! I was hoping to work as long as possible so that I can save up all of my leave for after the birth, but I commute an hour by train each way and I'm petrified of having my water break on the way to work - or worse on the way home (my OB is in the city - where my office is). I'm thinking if I don't deliver early, then maybe I'll stop working a week before my due date. (Unless of course the doctor tells me to stop before then)

First, thanks to all for your support -- We headed down to Florida this past weekend --in what ended up being a productive, chaotic, and overwhelming experience. To sum it up: We trekked from Tallahassee to Tampa, stayed with my husband's cousin, visited daily with my dad (and tried to brighten up his life), had the memorial service, celebrated my husband's b-day, spent 5+ hours in their house (where they used to chain smoke) looking for valuable items (I found bags of gold and diamond jewelry amongst unpaid bills and receipts for items that she should never have purchased.), met my father's nursing home nurses and Hospice staff, and got him to indicate me on this living will. There is so much to do…I don’t want to take up space here, but I am quite stressed out and am just trying to attack everything calmly and rationally.

I had an OB appointment today-- The scale said that I lost 7 pounds--but our digital scale at home indicates this not to be the case whatsoever. The heartbeat was 145 bpm. Everything looks and "feels" as it should... I go back to the office on November 29th for the AFP bloodwork... Then, my next appointment is on the 15th of December (when I will be 19 weeks)! I also learned (probably for the umpteenth time) that I am O-positive, and am not a carrier for any of the Jewish illnesses (ex. Tay Sachs).

I do believe that I have felt the foetus move a number of times –and even my doctor said that it is likely if I can differentiate it from the gas that my husband wanted to believe it was… I am now using the EDD of the 10th of May (but because it is just a few days difference, there is no need to update the list...Heck, my daughter was late --and my mother says that I was 1 months late!) This means that I am 15 weeks tomorrow— .

I just went through many posting looking for questions… I apologize if I missed a few…

Mrsk: Not sure when you should start your maternity leave… I think it depends what you do, how long you have to commute, and how you feel. I am going to try to work up until the week I deliver… I just hate to sit at home, and like to be amongst the coworkers :D

MrsK #2 -- My new week begins each Wednesday because I am using a due date of the 10th. You are then one day ahead of me …so your weeks would begin on Tuesday (today you were 15 weeks by my count).

Parrothead – Not sure, I will have to make a note to monitor it. Oh and welcome!

Ironhair – I had an old male cat when my daughter was born. He actually checked on her (like many say dogs do) when she cried and seemed upset. I think that all cats and pets for that matter are different – How is s/he when you have guests?

Parachute panties… Eeeks –under the tummy right now ;)

Belly shots – I took one pic thus far—and might take another in a few minutes. I just have been swamped –but I’ll totally post it here…

Constipation –I think all natural is the way to go…I think I suggested prunes (or prune juice) and bran in a former posting. My MIL said that Oprah dedicated a portion of a recent show to the importance of a good poop.

Em7.31.04 – Not as far as I can tell…but I am sure that my DD and DH will tell me if they spot any.

Shortcake – At times I do feel some cramping or stretching. It is most unpleasant –and I try my best to just ignore it because my doctor explained that this is quite normal.

Jarm – I actually am a former carnivore, but know that there are some foods that are hard to stomach for some people –especially now. If Turkey doesn’t work for you, there are so many other options on the typical Thanksgiving table—potatoes, cranberries, pie, stuffing, veggies, and who knows what else –But, you can always suggest a small portion of something else that does taste good… Hope that helps?

Thanks to the mods for setting this up… When I was frustrated after a long day of dealing with crap in Florida, it was invigorating to go online and see the new thread.

Hooray for feeling the baby move akachan and nettreefrog!

My appointment was today and I feel totally ripped off! First, I didn't get an u/s, and I really wanted one. But, what really ticked me off was the fact that the doctor didn't have the common courtesy to SHOW UP. That's right, he totally skipped out on the appointment as he wanted to attend a breakfast meeting in Dallas. Nice. I told the office that I refused to pay for a Dr.'s visit that I didn't get. DH took off work to watch me have my blood pressure taken, get weighed, and do a very quick heartbeat check. The good news from that is that the baby's heartrate was great at 152 bpm, my blood pressure is fabulous, and I lost 2 pounds. I'm still ticked, though. Oh, and they even forgot to let me know the results of the ultrascreen. I had to ask and the nurse checked the chart and said, "Oh,yeah...they were fine."

Nettree - phew! I am beat just reading all that you've been up to. I hope the hardest is behind you now.

Mrs. U - thanks for finding the onesie online!

Kristin - My doc has one nurse and I rotate seeing them with my appts. BUT, I was told this would happen. The nurse is actually great and gives me slightly different perspectives that the doc which is good for balance. Of course, had I expected to see the doc, but been put with a non-communicative nurse I'd be a little put off too. Good for you for saying something. Oh, and how many u/s do you get? I had one at 7 weeks, one at 11 weeks and the NT at 12. I don't think I'll get many more except for the 20 weeker. I'm going to be jealous if you get a bunch more!!

Akachan - wow! for feeling the little guy. I can't wait for that! I've been waiting for the popcorn popping or butterflies, but always just think it's gas!

Mrsk - Thanks for the great idea on the doppler for family. Dh's parents were so excited about the pgcy this past weekend that we decided - I decided - to get the doppler so our parents can hear the HB. It is definitely not something either of them have ever had the opportunity to do before. Now I just hope I can find it easily!

I've pretty much had the same haircut for years. Straight hair parted to the left, just above or below my shoulder, one length for the most part, sometimes some layers to add volume. Sounds exciting, no? I got my haircut yesterday and got BANGS (whispy swept to the side ones). I'm not really sure what happened. Can I blame it on pg brain?? Right now they are just driving me crazy.

Hello! Well I am back from my trip to DC. It went well and I am definitely starting to get a belly. I have a Dr. appointment this am, so I will post when I return. There is lots to catch up on in here - I can't get to it all but wanted to contribute to a couple QOTDs.

Cramping I get this. It is very dull really, but uncomfortable. I feel like someone is taking muscle fibers and separating them for the baby to fit it.

Sneezy I get sharp pains with sneezing and sometimes coughing. I think it is all the same. Things are starting to grow.

Sorry to miss SOs. Great u/s Attygrl! I will be back with my appointment update :D

Good morning all! I thought I would post this article from Baby Center, since we've all been having back and hip pain: http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/prenatalhealth/9402.html

I found it really reassuring because this baby has literally been a pain in the butt!:p

AttyGrl: I love your nursery! Great U/S pic too!

Nettreefrog: Sorry you have to go through all of that right now. Thanks for helping me count the weeks.

Kristin: That really stinks about your appointment, especially since your DH took off work. I'd be fuming too.

Bloomwood: You'll find the heartbeat; just remember it may take a few minutes. Have your DH help you. Mine is much more patient than I am!

Mrs U: That is so cute! I think your mom is excited.

Guinness: Glad your trip to DC went well. Good luck with your apt today!

I'm so jealous of all of you that are feeling flutters! Hopefully it won't be too much longer before I feel something too!

Also, I don't remember who posted about being worried about their cat getting in the crib, but I vaguely remember someone posting questions about this in the Pets thread, so you might try searching there or in the parenting thread.

mrsk - we'll get the doppler tomorrow (I had to do express to make sure it got here before we leave for Turkey day). I'll come back with a report. Patience. Not so good at that. Also, for counting weeks, you can get one of those tickers and put it in your bio. I put mine on the first page and when I am confused, I just go look at it to cheat on where I am.

Last night I went to a bday dinner for my friend that is 3 weeks away from her EDD. One of the appies we ordered was drizzled with honey and she wouldn't eat it because she thought we couldn't. I know babies aren't supposed to have honey. Are we supposed to stay away too? I've used it a few times and will probably continue to. But, is honey on the NO list?

Hope y'all have a good Thursday!

Hello Everyone-

Well, I posted a few days back about spotting. I had to go in to my Dr yesterday for my AFP blood work so I mentioned it to the nurse. She decided I should have an u/s just to make sure everything is ok. We got to see the baby and the heartbeat so that calmed me down. The Dr said I am spotting because the placenta has grown over my cervix (placenta previa). He said it usually moves back and away from the cervix as the pregnancy goes along. So, I feel much better. Oh, he did say no intercourse until he is sure the placenta has moved. I assured him that would not be a problem:rolleyes: Any of you still not in the "mood"?- my poor husband probably thinks I am never going to have sex with him again!

Someone asked awhile back about cats and the baby. When my daughter was born we had two inside cats. They were more scared of her at first than anything else. But, the female cat quickly became jealous of her and starting peeing on our living room furniture- nice, huh:mad: We now have two outside cats- yes, we finally had to move them outside. They seem very happy to be out there actually. We have an acre lot and they stay right around the house and we live in Florida so it doesn't get too cold for them. But, I can tell you that they never tried to jump in the crib or anything like that. (Or as my grandmother used to say- try to "steal her breath"!)

Oh, I think I have also felt the baby move a few times. I am not positive yet. With my daughter I didn't feel her move until I was more than 20 weeks along.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Just got back from my dr appt. It is so weird going with my 2 year old - I feel scattered and can't focus! I could barely hear the h/b b/c she was crying!! :(
Also apparently my NT test showed the nuchal fold just slightly thicker than normal - 1.9 mm at 11w 5 d. That's only slightly high, so until we get the bloodwork back from the 2nd trimester screening there's nothing to worry about. But curious if anyone else had about that thickness too???

missy329 My poor DH is deprived, too. I just can't get into it, it seems.

Shortcake Our Dr. only got 2 measurements, but went with the thicker of the 2, which was 1.6mm. At that point, he put my risk at 1:742. He said he wasn't concerned until the measurements got close to 3-3.5 mm. Once the bloodwork came back (and I pressed my nasty arse nurse for it), my down's risk was 1:11,400 and my Trisomy 18 risk was 1:99,000. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. :)

Just got back from my appointment and scheduled a sono/next appointment for Dec. 14th. Everything was good. I need to find where to get a flu shot. The Drs offices don't even have them yet here. I heard the hb (150), didn't gain any weight :D , and had blood taken for the AFP1. The doc said results in 1 week, the tech said 3-4:confused: Guess I will call in a week and ask to talk with the nurse. He said if something comes back positive he would want to see me next week.

He also said for my sonogram if I bring a video tape, the tech will tape the whole session. How cool is that? He said we have to remind her though because she is a gen x/yer and is very 'whateverish'. :p

Anyway, love appointments that go well and I have decided to take the rest of the day off. Getting home at midnight wore me out. I can work some from home.

I am with Kristin and Missy on lack of drive. . . . what can ya do??

Shortcake I didn't do the NT so I can't help. I agree with Kristin though, I am sure everything is fine.

Glad you enjoyed the honey Bloomwood! As good as I try to be about food, I have realized that I definitely do lots of minor unrecommended things. But really you can get completely neurotic trying to avoid so many things!

Thanks Kristin - yeah my doc implied that she wasn't concerned up front unless it was quite a bit thicker. I'm not too worried. I made the mistake of telling my mom, though - big mistake, she's all worried now!! I told her not to, but she won't listen.

I forgot to ask the doc about the fact that I've only gained 3 lbs, but I guess she'd tell me if she was worried! I don't know, I just feel that I'm being so much less conscientious about this pregnancy...but I know that's normal for #2.

I'm not having a good day. My DH is working tonight. I had to rush out of work to get home so he could go to work. The music teacher had my second graders laying on the floor during their music period watching the fourth graders practice for tomorrow's "play." I was angry! Now it's 10:00 and my 2 year old is running around the house. I have given up. I tried to lay with her. I read her three extra books tonight and she's up running around. I just don't care anymore. I want to go to bed. Oh, and on top of everything, I almost lost it a few times today. Not a good day! Hopefully a good night's sleep will help.

Morning all!

Ugg I caught a case of the sniffles. Needless to say I need to get down to the pharmacy for some Vicks Vapor Rub so I can breath tonight (Tiger Balsm didnt really help). I really hate having a runny nose.

Sex I guess we've been lucky if we DTD 3 times a week. Mainly it's been on the weekends- we have no time in the week with night school/ tired from work. Is it just me or is anyone else orgasiming rather quickly?- I feel like I've turned into a minute lady most of the time.

I got a dumb question- what's the difference between a sonogram and a ultrasound? Arent they the same thing?

Hi everyone! Sorry Jarm for your Very Bad Day!

Mrsu - I'm impressed that you're dtd still 3x/week. I think we have maybe 3 times in the last 12 weeks!

My DH keeps pawing at me and I'm about to break his hands. I'm all touched out. And I'm just too tired. These hormones suck!

I'm pretty sure an ultrasound and a sonogram are the same thing.

No sex for us either. Last weekend was the first time in a LONG time, but THANK GOD I'm finally feeling well enough again!! DH was so patient!!! I don't think I'm orgasming any faster, but definitely more intense. Finally - one GOOD symptom of pregancy.:D I also have more erotic dreams!

Hello all! I rarely post, but wanted to check in with everyone. Looks like all of the babies are doing really well--I'm so glad. I'm so sorry for some of the job and family stress people are dealing with right now. PG can be stressful enough! I'm going to be thinking positive thoughts that things get better or get worked through for everyone.

We've now had our nuchal and AFP and everything looks great. We won't do anymore testing now. Our next U/S is Dec. 16th. I am still thinking we would like to keep the gender a surprise. I am kind of thinking girl right now, but sometimes boy!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!:)

I guess we've been lucky if we DTD 3 times a week.

We DTD at least 2 times a week. And usually on the weekends. If we don't DH will just keep bothering me. So I give in, so he'll leave me alone, lol! Although...TMI...I don't think we'll get to that this weekend. I think I'm getting a little yeast infection (a very minor one). I told DH its from too much sex, lol!. This is one pg related item I could do without. I usually would only get them if I were taking oral antibiotics for a few weeks (because anitbiotics kill the bad and the good bacteria). Anyone else getting YI?

Sex has been very sporadic for us, poor DH. My dreams have been getting more erotic recently, now if I only had more energy!

Two friends have recently given me tons of their maternity clothes. What fun! I've been trying stuff on, and while I need it soon, right now I end up with a big pooch of fabric where my belly will eventually be. I'm still in my normal clothes but things are increasingly uncomfortable. I'm trying to hold out until I need the maternity clothes, but this transition time is really annoying.

shortcake
11-18-2005, 01:17 PM
DTD - We've only done it twice since I've been pg. I have just been SO tired. He's been pretty tired too, because work & life have just been so busy, so I think he is surviving. But hopefully now that we're into the 2nd trimester we'll both feel better! Oh I will say he just keeps grabbing my bbs whenever he can - he loves that they've grown - and it's pretty annoying! Oh well. :)

Last night I was freaking out. DH scored major points for talking to me and rubbing my back at 3am. Basically, my ob mentioned at the last appt that we'd probably have extra u/s at the end, because of stuff that happened with DD. In summary, DD was measuring small, so they did bunches of extra u/s and she *seemed* to be not growing much, so they induced me. But it turned out the u/s was wrong and she was just fine (25% for her age) so she became a preemie based on a "mistake". So all last night I was thinking that same thing was going to happen again!! I called her today, and talked about my concerns. Basically I feel better having talked to her - even though I still think she will be erring on the side of caution and I probably WILL have the extra u/s and stuff...but at least we got to talk through the situation so that helped. And she knows how hard it is to "have a preemie, especially when you didn't need to" as she said, so hopefully she won't rush into anything.

Whoa Shortcake! That is amazing they made that kind of mistake. I'm glad your daughter was fine.

No YI here, Lolly, Hope it clears up soon!

DTD - we try for once a week. My husband would also roll over and thank his lucky stars if we managed 3 times in a week! But, he's just as tired at night, so it would be as much him as me!!

I just got my doppler. I found the HB right away, but then I lost it. They send this CD of fetal sounds, so I'm going to listen to that and master this so I can find it easily for my parents next week.

shortcake
11-18-2005, 01:37 PM
Bloomwood - Yeah, apparently it's pretty common for them to be quite far off with the u/s measurements. But I mean, what use is that then?? It was a really frustrating time and I do not wish to relive it. Hopefully I won't have to. DD did turn out fine thank goodness but we had sleep & feeding issues that were probably related to her being early that might have been avoided. Oh well...spilt milk...no use crying now! :)

DTD We are about once per week too, although some weeks more and some have been less. Frankly I could do without, but DH could do it daily - so I figure I am making out on the compromise at this point ;)

Shortcake Glad you got to talk through the situation with your doc. That is unneeded stress for you for sure.

Lolly No YI for me either. Hope yours gets cleared up soon. I hate those things!!

Nettie I am with you on the maternity clothes predicament. Sure overwearing a few of my elastic waisted travel pants (chicos)! I figure it is better than the bunch of extra fabric and me constantly having to pull up my pants

MrsT Yay for good outcomes on all your screenings! I am with you on the surprise gender. I am loving getting everyone's opinion on what they think it is. I am sure that will all heighten when I actually have a belly to predict things :p

Attygrl LOL. I keep thinking . . . if I tape nipples on my back or feet will you just rub those, may not solve your touched out problem though.

For those Oing quicker, I wish I was in that club. I am a slow, hard work. Tough combo when DH gets it infrequently and I am tired. . .

As for constipation [knocking on wood], so far I have been more regular than usual. I hope this trend stays cause I can't imagine holding any more stuff in that general area.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Next week is a short festive week - YAY!!

Again—thanks to all of your for your kind words. Well… it has been a few days since my last posting…but things are always busy in our household—. Aside from dealing with the estate of my stepmother and talking to my father daily, my daughter had her last soccer game of the season today (they tied 4-4), and we had parent-teacher conferences (I cannot stand her chorus teacher and told my DH that he would have to deal with this jerk from now on…), and oh yeah - my daughter got her report card (4 As, 2 Bs (one of which was chorus—because the jerk teacher did not feel that anyone deserved an A). Those were the big things—but then there was work and tons of chaos there too.

Healthwise, the weather has changed here –and my joints are killing me. My knees are especially painful—but I may have a bit of carpal tunnel as well. Is anyone else experiencing joint pain?

We have not had time to DTD much at all. Heck, I am lucky to just be able to sit on the sofa with my DH without both of us falling asleep from sheer exhaustion!

It is wild to know the baby is moving…I put my hands on my stomach or lay perfectly still to watch it… It does not happen on cue, but from time to time, it is a neat experience.

Let’s try some individual shout outs…

Lolly –Thanks again… Any time that I am responding on here, I feel like I am taking time for me :D --And I’ll be working right next you –up until the day I deliver (hopefully). I do hope your yeast infection goes away –those are always a huge uncomfortable nuisance…

kristin9903 – I can completely understand your frustration about the doctor. You would think that the office would give you a call asking you if you wanted to reschedule!

Bloomwood – I hope you are right about the hardest being behind me… Unfortunately, I feel like things get easier for bit –only to ramp up again shortly thereafter… Your Doppler sounds neat --- and I hope that you can hear the HB again! Lol about the haircut—hope you get used to the bangs. –I put honey in my tea and sometimes put it on yogurt as well (especially Greek yogurt)—and I will continue to do so… That doesn’t answer the question—but there are so many NOs, I just have to eat!

AttyGrl74 – Fabulous looking kid you’ve got there!

Jarm – I agree with you—there are a lot of negatives about being pregnant (at least in my mind), but feeling him or her move is wonderful!

Mrs U – Cute bear!!! Hope your sniffles get better… I don’t know the difference between the two…I always assumed they were the same.

Akachan93 – Yeah on feeling the baby move!
Guiness – DC is my hometown –so it is especially nice to know that everything went well! The cramping though sounds painful…How often does it occur? We brought a videotape to our NT –and have watched it numerous times—its fabulous!

Mrsk – Thanks for the article… I have a feeling that I may def’ly need it in a few months…

Fats – Its been a few days since the flu shot…How is the arm holding up?

missy329 – I read about placenta previa – and wondered how common it was… I am glad to know that the placenta can move –but how long will it take?

Shortcake – I was just told that the nuchal was “normal” –but I guess I can check the video to see about the thickness. But, I doubt that you have anything to worry about. Is there anyplace you can take your DD prior to an appointment? The early induction is new to me –I was induced only when my daughter was late and it did not look like she was going to budge… I think though now that you have had the experience with your DD, you know what to look out for…

Crazycaro – Congrats on making 16 weeks …and on your DD turning 18 months… Isn’t amazing to see how fast time flies?

mrst2001 – Nice to see you :D We keep flip-flopping on the gender too… I thought I saw something on the NT –but then again, it could have been the cord ;)

Nettie – Fabulous about the maternity clothes… What all did you get? I agree…Most of my regular work pants are too small, but my maternity pants are too big…the transition is hard.

Just a quick check-in to say that I think I've turned a corner and am now feeling great. Granted I'm still tired (took a 1 hour nap today), but my stomach is settled and my food aversions have pretty much subsided. Yeah!

As for DTD...Pretty sure DH thinks he won't ever do it again. It's been almost two weeks, and before that I think it was about two weeks. It's just hard to find the time, and at night I just want to go to sleep. He's starting to get antsy and sort of sassy, so I think it might be time!

I went to the gym for the first time a while, today with a friend. We did the elliptical for 45 minutes, and now I feel so good. I'll feel less guilty about stuffing my face tonight at dinner. DH and I are meeting friends for dinner at Claim Jumper, and I know their portions are HUGE. I just have to think, at least I worked out...:p

Please do me a favor, and if you are going to be on your feet for 12 hours of more, DO NOT WEAR HEELS!! I cannot explain the pain and aches I am dealing with right this minute. It is so terrible!!

I am feeling fantastic! The only problem I am having right now is sleeping. I wake up between 5am and 6am every single morning, for no reason. It's really annoying, especially when I can sleep in...

nettreefrog My 'flu shot' arm is totally recovered, thanks for asking!! It was actually much better the following day, but that first day was a doozy.

I had a busy weekend - DH is in Orlando playing golf so I used the time to catch up on a lot of errands and household chores. I also went to Home Depot to get some paint chips. The room we're using for a nursery is yellow (I purposely painted it yellow way back when, anticipating its future use) but since I've been seeing all of these amazing looking nurseries, I've been wanting a change. I think I want to put up a chair rail and then paint the lower half of the room with yellow stripes - subtle, but still something a little different. This is my inspiration picture.
http://a293.g.akamai.net/7/293/5910/0010/image1.styleinamerica.com/pkecimgs/images/products/200530/0005/img16l.jpg

I've got to check with my OB about painting becuase I'm not sure I can pawn the work off on other family and friends.

I also used the doppler we rented and found the heartbeat this weekend!! It wasn't too difficult - baby seems to be resting on my right side. It was easier to find the circulatory sounds, which was very cool.

DH and I have decided we're definitely (99% sure) going to look for a doula. I've just heard such good things from people who used one, and I think DH is happy to have someone around to take a little pressure off of him.

I've also been looking into Au Pair programs. Day Care won't work for us and I think a Nanny will be too expensive so we're leaning towards getting a foreign au pair. Anyone else look into this?

I think my YI is pretty much gone. It wasn't that bad to begin with, just mild irritation, but still annoying!

I bought a few more maternity outfits yesterday. And even a few pairs of pants. I found a pair at Sears, of all places, and I think they'll last me thr entire pregnancy, I'll just have to get them taken up. They have the hidden zippers and belt loop things to take care of adjusting the pants without them looking much like maternity pants (no panel), and they were only $40 to begin with but were on sale for $28! I think these will be my favorite pants soon. I can't find a picture online but I think they're pretty similar to these motherhood pants: but in a full lenth pant. http://www.motherhood.com/Images/Products/4568.jpg

Lolly - I have the pants you pictured, from Motherhood, but in full length. The Miracle Pant, I think? Anyway, I love the adjustable waist band, and the fact that they really don't look like maternity pants. Good choice!!

Claim Jumper was really good...We were with a big group of friends, and we got free appetizers because we had to wait 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. I just got a half-entree salad for dinner, which was just enough. I couldn't even finish it....I know what you mean about eyes being bigger than tummy room.

I started dry heaving this morning when I was brushing my teeth....UGH.

I'm off work today (every Monday), so my mom and I are going shopping in Seattle. We're going to a great outdoor mall that has Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids, and a few other adorable kids' clothing stores. DH and I have picked two sets of bedding from PBK, so I want to look at them in person. I'll post pictures later!!

Em7.31.04 I love the farm animal one! But, like everyone else, the patchwork ones are adorable, too. Y'all have great taste!

I haven't been around because I have the worst cold of all time, especially since most meds are off limits. Sudafed totally sucks! I got no relief from it, so I just stopped taking it. Em I love them all! I can't wait to find out, so I can figure out how to decorate the nursery. We have a Pottery Barn outlet not far from here, so that's where my search will begin.

I'm also ready to feel the baby move. I know with my son it was at least 20 weeks before I really felt anything. Hopefully, I'll feel this one sooner.

My DS is finally getting the fact that there is a baby in mom's tummy. We haven't pushed the issue with him, since it's such a long process. However, one of his friends moms is also due, so yesterday the conversation was about the babies in their mom's tummys.

I hope that everyone has a great holiday, I'm just glad that we are past the smell something and run for the bathroom stage, I can't even think of sitting with 20 people and feeling horrible. I'm still fighting sinus, but finally went to the doctor and she put me on antibotics for the sinus and ear infections. She really wants me to go back on Flonase to help control the allergies and the resulting sinus infections. My OB had told me previously that he'd prefer I try not to use it, but if I really had to them that was okay too. Pretty vague answer, anyone else using a product similar to Flonase??

Have great holiday, can't wait to see more u/s pics!

kristin -- my doctor suggested sudafed to me as well, but it doesn't help much. I was told I could take Tylenol Sinus, that might help?

Em7.31.04 I really like the patchwork ones for either sex. Then again I love the floral one for a girl. So cute!

Like everyone else, I would love to feel some movement soon too! I know I still have a few more weeks to go before I should feel anything though.

In case I don't make it back here before Thursday, I hope everyone has a Wonderful Thanksgiving! We all have a lot to be thankful for. :D

marchfamily - so glad to hear you may have turned the corner. didn't you go to 17 weeks last time? Will you be finding out the sex at your u/s on 12/16?

Em - I have always loved both of those patchwork designs. Are the colors online pretty similar to real life? Of course, all the bedding is so cute, you really can't go wrong with any of it!

Mrs U - nice work on your energy burst!

Kristin - feel better!

Flyerwife - no probs with allergies yet. Usually I get hit in the spring though.

Lolly - happy turkey day to you too!

We all have a lot to be thankful for.
very true!

I ordered a snoogle last week because I just can't handle how poorly I've been sleeping. I wake myself up if I am on my back, turn to one side, wake up because that hip hurts, go to the bathroom, turn to the other side, wake up because the other hip hurts, wake up again to go to the bathroom. It should be here on 11/30. We have a spare pillow under the bed that I might try tonight between my legs or something. Usually the pain goes away after I walk the dog in the morning, but geez, I'd love to sleep through the night - or atleast limit the wakings to just needing to go to the bathroom!

In honor of Em's post, I've also been looking at nursery stuff. I feel like there are too many options for a little girl and it is too overwhelming (exciting) for me, so I have focused on little boy stuff. So far this is my favorite boy bedding:

http://www.laylagrayce.com/images/HICHBPB.jpg

PBKs has a chenille rug that would match perfectly.

Anyone else already looking at nursery bedding, etc?

Em - I love the striped bedding. I have been looking at those also. But like Bloomwood said, there are SO many to choose from! I think I am going to have to stop looking until I know for sure what we are looking for, that might help a little.

Fats - Let us know what the Dr says about you painting your nursery. I have been planning on painting ours but my mom is throwing a fit. I suppose if she agrees to do it, I shouldn't complain. I'm anxious to start seeing the nurseries!

Marchfamily - my next appt is Dec 16 also. Unfortunately, DH can't make it that day, so we don't get to find out what it is until JANUARY. I don't know if I can wait that long. The cool part is, I think we will find out on my 30th b-day - not a bad gift.

Hope everyone enjoys the holiday!

Those are great patterns you guys posted! I'm like Ironhair in that there's too much to look at! I've been reading Baby Bargains and it's so overwhelming, I'm going to have to stick with purchasing one thing at a time. I plan to wait until we find out the sex to really start looking at bedding or nursery furniture although we did pick out a travel system for my parents to give us for Christmas- I'm pretty excited about that.

I'm finally feeling better, I'm still exhausted but food doesn't repel me anymore. I still haven't tried to cook though, poor dh, he travels a lot for work so he eats out all the time. I asked my mom to cook him dinner last weekend so the poor guy could have some home-cooked food!

Hope everyone is doing well! I can't wait until we can all feel the little beans moving around!

Bloomwood I love that bedding!!! I really thought I had seen all the bedding out there, but that site is new to me.

I've been looking at nursery bedding since before the baby was conceived!!! Originally I was totally into all the safari themed ones but they were looking a bit too adult for me. I also thought I wanted to find something unisex, but lately I've been drawn to boy/girl sets.

Here are my favorites:

For either sex (sticking with the safari theme)

I like this Noah's Ark themed one

Favorite for a boy

I also like this one, but it's a bit busy - I think if I only used some of the items it would be ok
http://www.babyage.com/Icons/localhost/Products/medium/Moon-Dance-collection-450x450.jpg

Favorite for a girl (although it's Glenna Jean and they don't get the best reviews from Baby Bargains because the bumpers only tie in one spot)

Thanks to everyone who replied about our bedding choices...But seeing Bloomwood's favorite boy bedding made me re-think...I'll have to check out that website. So cute!!!

Flyerwife: Before pg, I took Flonase daily for my allergies. As soon as I became pg, my midwife told me to stop taking it. It's a Category C drug, so it's not recommended during pg. I am suffering horribly. I was told that the only things I can take for allergies are non-prescription Chlor-Trimeton tablets, daily is fine. I have been taking them, but I just don't find that they work as well as my beloved Flonase. :( I was also told that Benadryl is fine, sparingly. I take that at night sometimes - it also helps me sleep. A blessing these days. I've found that saline nasal spray works fine too...it's not medication of course, but still seems to work ok. HTH...

Bloomwood: The colors of the bedding are pretty true to real life. More so for the boy's colors. The girl's striped set seems to be a bit brighter in real life, but not obnoxiously so...

fats: I love the safari bedding - so cute!!

Bloomwood - Wow, that web site has the most beautiful patterns!!

I love all the nursery/bedding ideas you guys have. Fats - LOVE the one with the polka dots. With DD I was adamant that I didn't want a "girly girl" room and was somewhat anti-pink...well now I wish I'd done those colors, they are so great! But she has all green & lavender stuff b/c I was so anti pink before, so oh well. Maybe if this one is a girl??? But no, I think we'll use the same bedding if this one is a girl, to save $$. Where did you find it though?? They might have a boy one I like. :)

Oh yeah - we didn't originally get a set for DD - we got sheets and that was it. But later, when I decided she needed a bumper because she was pushing her head up against the wood of the crib, I found a great PBK one on ebay. It's a good place to look for this stuff! It was new, but so much cheaper than retail.

Kristin - I heard Benadryl was ok - but it knocks me out so I only use it at night. It really helps me breath though!

Today DH is sick with a nasty something, and I'm exhausted from being up a lot of the night. And of course, DD won't nap! I think I may have to take her to the grocery store and then try to put her down when we return. I'm dreading going though - I'm so not up for shopping right now.

M/S - I may have spoken too early. Blech. And yes, it seemed to get better around 17w last time.

Allergies - I took Zyrtek during my first pg and Claritin for the early part of my second.

Love all the cute bedding! We did PBK/Rabbit Patch. I want to do E's bed in their butterfly pattern and pass along the Rabbits to #2. Kiddos will be sharing a room once #2 goes to the crib.

I broke down and made an appointment by my normal dr. This cold is not getting any better and the homopathy crap that my SO wants me to take isnt working. I just fear having a sinus infection again.

Hope ya'll have a great Thanksgiving! I'll be celebrating with Turkey schnitzel and Stove Top.:D

Hi Everyone -

I haven't been around much either because I've had a nasty case of the flu. I'm still dealing with the remnants. Word of warning to eveyone, WASHING YOUR HANDS OFTEN! This has not been fun. :(

My doc told me it was ok to take Tylenol Cold and Flu. I looked up the ingredients on safefetus.com and other sites and they were listed as being safe for pregnancy. Still, I'll feel better next week when I go in for my appointment.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday I did to much, I was carrying the vaccum and laundry basket up and down stairs and I can tell it was to much.

I love all the bedding that's been posted.

I hope MrsU and Southlooper feel better asap. It's one thing to be sick but being sick while pregnant.

I have my Dr. appt on Tuesday and then I should get my script for the u/s. Yay. Can't wait for that. I can't wait to see our little baby.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. We're headed to Maryland to Sil's house. I hope the snow holds off b/c I hate driving in snow.

shortcake I got the polka dot bedding off the site that bloomwood posted hers from. It's www.laylagrace.com and the manufacturer is House Inc. Now I'm really torn between doing something kind of "normal" (for lack of a better word) and doing something with more of a theme (like the airplanes or animals). bloomwood also posted a site where you can buy that stuff as separates. I think once we find out the sex I'll really get more into choosing the bedding.

Sounds like quite a few people are sick - hope you all get better soon and hope everyone has a nice holiday. We're headed to Georgia tonight to spend the weekend with DH's family. I've never been so it should be interesting to see where he grew up!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm taking off soon, but wanted to get one last post in beforehand.

DH and I visited our first daycare today. It's in between our offices and comes highly recommended. I was really impressed by their organization. The infant room was mildly depressing to me, babies sleeping, babies eating, and babies crying. I guess this is what infants do, but it still bothered me. The other rooms were really promising though. The kids seemed so happy. Some of the classes were in the middle of lunch and were so well-behaved, I was shocked. 8 little kids sitting around a table all eating together! And they were so cute. We put ourselves on their wait list, it was only $25. Our baby will only be in the infant room a couple of months, maybe less if I can get a grandma to pitch in. Beyond the infant room, the daycare seemed like such a happy environment, I think I would be very comfortable leaving my kid there.

I've been lucky to avoid colds so far, Thanksgiving will be a challenge. I still haven't gotten my flu shot, need to take care of that.

With that, I'm off to the snowy hills of Pittsburgh tomorrow to visit with the extended IL family...

Bloomwood

I'm so sorry to those of you with colds. :( Feel better soon. We have a long winter ahead and it is way too soon to feel icky.

Nettie - great on finding a good day care. I guess I would want to see happy blissful infants being coddled by loving mothering types, but you're right - they eat and sleep!

shortcake - thankfully I cannot relate to the gas issues. I have plenty of GI issues normally, but that is one I am not experiencing. How about some fiber and water?

We leave in a few hours for a quick flight down to SoCal to visit my parents and FINALLY tell them the good news. I feel terrible they are the last to know, but really wanted to do it in person. I bought Hawaiian print bags and macadamia nuts to put in them and tell them we got them something in Kuaui to throw them off. I'll put the little "I heart grandma/grandpa" onesies in the bottom. I need to wear a camoflauge outfit so tummy bulge doesn't give it away first.

Oh! That reminds me! SCORE!!! I finally found some maternity jeans at Old Navy that fit and don't need to be hemmed. They have that little demi panel, which I'd rather not do, but I couldn't pass them up. I'm so freakin excited to have a new pair of pants to wear with flats (w/o having to pay for alterations).

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

Hi Girls! It's almost 3am and I can't sleep. First time this has happened to me since getting pg, but I don't think it's the pregnancy. Must be that nap I took a few hours ago!

I'm also starving though, which I do blame on the pregnancy so I just wish everyone would wake up and start cooking!!! ;)

ga_girl and Em7.31.04: I'm in LaGrange, about an hour south of Atlanta. Do you know where that is? So far I haven't seen anything - it was dark when we flew in. DH will show me around town over the next few days.

Bloomwood: That's so exciting that you're telling your parents!! I can't believe you were able to wait this long!

shortcake: I've had gas issues since I first got pregnant and sometimes it's worse than others. Today I actually had some pains in my stomach but other times it's just a gassy/bloated feeling. My doctor said it was ok to take GasX so that's what I've been sticking with.

jarm: I haven't been nearly as tired as I was the first trimester, but I haven't gotten that burst of energy I was hoping for.

I know we talked about this already, but it was a while back so I'm bringing it up again. When do you plan on taking childbirth classes? Are you going to do it at the hospital? A friend recommended a place she went to (not the hospital) that I think I'm going to use. They have a package - childbirth (two classes - one if you plan to use an epidural and one if you don't), breastfeeding and newborn care. Obviously you can take whichever ones you want, but it's cheaper to sign up for all three together. The website says to take the childbirth class at the beginning of your 3rd trimester because it's a month long class (meets once a week) but we'll probably take the 2 day weekend class. I guess we'll then take the other two classes closer to my due date. Anyone who is in NYC and is interested in checking it out, it's called Real Birth and the website is www.realbirth.com (hey - wouldn't it be cool if we were in the same class?!)

As for Day Care, has anyone considered an au pair? (Did I mention this already? Sorry if I did) Day Care won't really work for us because of our commute and work hours and a nanny is so expensive so we're probably going to get a foreign au pair. I've been in touch with 3 agencies and I think we're going to start filling out the applications so that we're done with them by Christmas (although we won't need to find someone until March or so, they need time to get their visas then).

Oh - one more thing...brought the doppler to Georgia with me because DH still hadn't heard it (he was away for the last few days). I tried it tonight before bed and found the heartbeat almost immediately and it's stronger than it has ever been (or else I'm just getting better at finding it!!)

Ok, I'm off to read my new Real Simple mag and find some good Xmas gift ideas!!! Happy T Day everyone!!!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I'm feeling much better these days.:)

I know we talked about this already, but it was a while back so I'm bringing it up again. When do you plan on taking childbirth classes? Are you going to do it at the hospital?

I just got my hypnobirthing CDs, so I'm going that route. We are going to attend birthing classes because they include admission procedures, a tour of the hospital, etc. The hospital recommends doing this during the second trimester.

I'm delivering in a hospital. I'm one of those freaks that likes hospitals. This is because my mother is a nurse and some of my fondest childhood memories involve visiting her at work. Also, this place is suppose to be one of the best women's hospitals in the country.

Jarm: Now that I've turned the corner on this flu, I'm feeling more energetic, yet still more tired than pre-pregnancy. Maybe this is this last push of tiredness? How's your sugar? Hope you feel better.

Shortcake: I'm having GI issues as well. TUMS is now my new best friend. I'm trying to find out what to eliminate from my diet.

I weighed myself yesterday and have not gained a pound. Yet, my clothes don't fit. This happening to anyone else?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the well wishes as well. Finally my noses isnt running like a tap and I slept really well last night! Even had some bizzar dream with Ashlee Simpson in concert with Jessica really doing all the singing behind the stage (been reading too much gossip threads  )

Fats: Done the hospital tour. I believe birthing classes arent until the end of Feb. for me and they are held at the hospital by the midwives so went start to get to know them.

Southlooper I havent gained anything since Oct, but the 3lbs since Sept went to the girls. Some pants are slowly getting tighter around the waist, but are bagging in the butt/ thighs.

I took a belly pic last night (15 weeks), but I still have 10 more pics to take before developing. Maybe it will be done before the baby arrives.

Hey all…. First HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!

I was going to do regular shout outs—but my DH has given me limited time on the computer before we head out to pick up his mom. So—I have to keep this shorter than normal…

How I am doing
Health: In general, I feel pretty good. I have gone back to zipping around and my food intake is more normal (food was not as tasty and I could not eat regular portions for a few months). Unfortunately, my joint pain has continued (especially in my knees), and the carpal-tunnel-like pain in my wrists has continued as well. I have gone up an entire cup size + thus far –and bought one new bra to accommodate my new “additions.”
Family:My DH felt the baby move for the first time this morning (with his hand on my ever-growing bulge). Today, we have to deal with loads of questions from my DH’s family… More importantly, I spoke to the lawyer about my stepmother’s estate and my father’s Medicaid Trust. I also have been speaking with my dad daily –and have been trying to encourage him to put up a greater fight for his own happiness and well being.
Work: Oh –and I finally started telling people at work (I still feel uncomfortable talking about it though as I do not like to be treated differently.) Does anyone else still feel uncomfortable talking about pregnancy and such with coworkers and family?

Baby Stuff: We are not buying anything until the baby is here or almost here. I have told people not to buy us stuff either. All of your choices thus far look nice –I personally like the animals. Is anyone else not buying or thinking about stuff yet?

Fats – Hey –I am in NYC too! The childbirth classes look interesting—and I am just a few stops away from 22nd Street. I never took classes with my DD –so when do people normally start taking them?

Per Fat’s question, I went to http://www.greataupair.com I did not think that a Nanny or Au Pair was cost effective or possible because we do not have an extra bedroom. (There will be 4 of us in 2 bedrooms come May.) However, I see that there are some au pairs and nannies willing to live outside the home. The average cost they say is ~$140/week –which I think is fabulous! I want a Spanish or French speaker –which would work out well given that my DH and I speak both. I am really curious what other child care options everyone is considering!

Uh oh… DH is telling me to move… Hugs to all!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I hate Thanksgiving...while I have a lot to be thankful for, I also have a lot that I wish I had (namely my mom and dad or family who lives closer). It's always a sad time for me as I would prefer to spend the holiday by ourselves than with DH's family. I just want that normal married fight over what to do for the holidays. Of course, emotions are high due to the pregnancy.

Enjoy your day! Tomorrow is my day for giving thanks...I go marathon shopping with my friend. Last year we left at 5 and got home at 6:30. Not so sure I'll be able to do that this year.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Jarm - I know if you are missing your family the holiday loses something! We are actually all on our own (no family at all) this year.

We have some close friends who we assumed would invite us to join their families (their parents are here and we've gone before) but they didn't - we're a little miffed actually. We did get invited to a friend's husband's sister's house but didn't feel up for a dinner with people we mostly didn't know, etc. And actually it turns out neither one of us is feeling great - DH was sick a couple days ago and his throat still hurts a lot. I'm feeling tummy-sick. So it will hopefully be a quiet, relaxing day home.

Fats - we won't likely do CB classes this time around, but I do want to do the hospital tour sooner rather than later, just to see what it's like, since it's a different hospital. I think the classes you are describing sound great! As long as you also tour the hospital so you know their procedures and stuff.

Southlooper - I have only gained 3 pounds. Doc says she doesn't worry about weight gain till 16 weeks. So that's good. And yes, I'm still fitting things differently - I guess the weight is just moving around.

Southlooper & Fats - glad I'm not the only one!! I think maybe at the moment I actually have a bug, since it got worse over the last 2 days and last night was actually, you know, loose #2. (Gosh we share a lot here!!) So hopefully it will go back to just general bloating and uckyness instead of pain!!

Weight: I have been weighing myself every Friday morning since I found out I was pg...I have actually lost 6 lbs...Although my bb's have gone up one cup size...I think my body is just shifting its weight to different places, since I guess I'm not really gaining anything. It's nice, but I know that I will definitely be making up for it in the 2nd & 3rd trimesters!

Daycare: I will be doing my graduate school internship 2-3 days/week next year...beginning in September after the baby is due. I won't be working in addition to that. DH will continue working full-time. Our plan at this point is to find a childcare center near where I will be doing my internship....That location is still to be determined, although I'll have a better idea in the next 2-3 months. I really don't think childcare fills up as quickly around here as it seems to in other areas...We're not in a big city, and I know of a ton of centers in the area, so if one does fill up then we have other options to look at.

Childbirth Classes: I'll be delivering at a hospital...And the hospital offers a great series of childbirth classes. So do several other agencies in our area, although we'll be taking them at the hospital. We'll likely take the weekend-long class in the end of my 2nd trimester, or very early in my 3rd trimester. We're actually signed up for our hospital tour on 12/15...We'll get another one with the package of classes we'll sign up for, but we wanted to check things out now! It's free, so we figured why not. I'll make sure to post after the tour - we can't wait. :-)

Happy turkey day, everyone!!! I got up this morning and made an apple pie....now my house smells so yummy. DH is off playing flag football right now - after he gets home (and showers!), we're hitting the road to go to my parent's house about 45 minutes away. We'll be there until Saturday afternoon.

I had an okay holiday, a great marathon shopping day (although I was a little tired). On Thursday, I started getting sharp and crampy pains in my stomach. I didn't really think anything about it. They continued on and off on Thursday (after my two and a half hour nap) and at some points on Friday. They have somewhat disappeared, but I just started getting concerned that something is wrong. I'm going to hope that I start feeling the baby moving soon. I just pray that when we go to the next doctor's appointment, we hear the heart beating.

Oh well...I better get to work. I have three assignments due for a class on Monday and I have nothing done. Then I have parent conferences Tuesday and I have nothing done for that either. I'm such a procrastinator normally, but pregnancy definitely makes it worse for me.

Hope you all had a good holiday, we just returned from visiting my family in Savannah and it was great b/c a cousin I'm close with is due 2 weeks after me and it's the first time we've seen each other since we found out we were pg.

Fats- I've never been to LaGrange so I'm no help there! Hope you're having a good time though.

Jarm- I'm so glad I read your post! I took a nap this afternoon and when I woke up I had pain on my left hand sign then about an hour later in Target I felt dizzy then had another pain. I came home and laid down until I felt better but I had the same thought that I hope my appt this Friday is ok and we can hear the hb. It's a scary feeling.

Classes- We plan on taking infant cpr and baby basics 101 since neither one of us has spent much time around newborns and it honestly scares me to death!

I have a question about bf for the ppl who plan on working- I just decided to go back to work after my 12 week leave until the end of Dec. I actually had to decide this last Wed and commit to finishing a project by Dec. 06- I'm really torn about it but the money is really good for only working 4 mo and after that I'll stay home ft for a year or so.Anyways- got off track! My question is for those of you who will work, what will you do about bf and pumping? I can't pump at work, it's a very un-child friendly co. and I don't know what to do about that. I can supplement w/ formula during the day but don't your breasts hurt b/c they're full? I had always planned on staying home for awhile afterwards and now I don't know what to do about any of this!

Our Thanksgiving was pretty uneventful. Had dinner at MIL's, watched the Cowboys game. DH and I catnapped on the couch while the game was on.

Jarm I get those same pains. While my cramps during the 1st trimester were kind of dull and annoying, sometimes these new ones just hurt. They go away after a while, though. Think about where your uterus is at now! Mine's right at my belly button, so I figure some minor pain is in order. (Can you believe it's the size of a small melon?!?) Good luck with your school work. Finals are around the corner for me, so I totally feel the procrastination thing.

Classes We still don't know. I haven't gotten my schedule for nursing school next semester, and won't until January. By then, I'm afraid everything will be booked solid. We were told to book them during the 1st trimester, so I'm already behind.

Ga girl Are you sure they won't understand your need to pump? I'm sure you could force the issue, if need be. I bet your ob or pedi can write a note, since there are benefits to bf.

ga girl - that stinks about the work situation. I think if you supplement during the day, you could end up with supply issues (but you could be just fine - your body might just slow down production during the day, like it does when baby starts sleeping through the night). I don't have any experience with this but there's a bfing help thread in parenting that might have some thoughts!

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Ours was pretty low key, we came baack home on Saturday to beat the traffic. So glad we did.

My appt. is on Tuesday and I need to tell the Dr. about the problem I've been having at night. It's really odd, when I lay down in bed I have a pressure in my chest and it almost feels like I can't breathe but I can kwim. Some nights it's worse then others. Last night wasn't bad but Thursday was pretty bad.
I am also so exhausted still and I get out of breath just climbing the stairs while carrying my ds. I'm starting to wonder if I'm anemic.

nettreefrog That is so exciting your dh felt the baby move. I sometimes think I feel the baby but it happens so fast I'm wondering was that the baby or gas.:)

jarm I"m sorry Thanksgiving is so rough for you. I know how tough it is not having family nearby.

ga girlI'm sorry you work in such a un child friendly place. Do you have a private office or a place you could pump at least once a day. IIRC there is moms with pumps thread here or at least there was on WC so I'm assuming there would be one here. I hope it works out for you but supplementing w/ formula won't be the end of the world either.

AS for classes we did them last time but won't be doing it this time around. I had taken breastfeeding class, Lamaze, infant CPR and basic baby needs or something like that.

I feel your pain southlooper! My week is a crazy week! I have parent conferences Tuesday...oh boy! Wednesday is the only night DH and I have together...stinks! Friday I am taking half a personal day because I'm supposed to be going out of town for a wedding except we decided not to go on Friday, but instead leave on Saturday and take DD with us. I kept the half personal day and we have decided to take DD for her checkup. Saturday we go to Mass. for the wedding and Sunday we rush home so DH can go to work. Blech! Oh, and then I need to start report cards somewhere in there.

Just wanted to do a little update on my pain. I guess I'm really nervous about it because I felt some flutters a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't really felt anything since. I realize it's probably just the position of the baby, but I've never really had a good feeling about this pregnancy. To be honest, I sometimes have to remind myself that I'm pregnant because I forget.

Anyway, the pain had seemed to subside, but still appeared every once in a while. Today I really overdid it. I moved a coffee table, carried the box with the Christmas tree in it and carried lots of heavy gifts around. Then as I was laying in DD's bed trying to take a nap (she wanted me to sit in her room with her while she played), she came up on the bed and was walking...stepped right on the spot where I've been having the pains. It feels better now, but it hurt for quite a while.

It's late and I should be sleeping, but I have my second wind and really don't want to go to bed. I think it's because if I don't go to bed then Monday won't come and I won't have to go to work, right?

Hello everyone. Glad you had a good holiday. We just got back from ours after a not so great ending. DH got the stomach flu thurs pm which knocked him out for friday. I of course got it Sat night, which meant a very long car/plane ride home. But we made it finally and I feel a lot better today. Now it is time for a big week of work, the last of the semester :D

CrampsI have the same thing as you are describing off and on. I am sure there is so much about pregnancy people don't talk about/remember. Things have to be growing so pain has to occur. Hope those that are worried get to hear the heartbeat soon!!

I will catch up individually later. Hope everyone has a good Monday.

Just a quick fly by posting...because I have a QOTD (or a few of them)!

How is everyone sleeping at night? Are you able to comfortably sleep on your side? Do you believe that it is detrimental to sleep on your back?

I used the Snoogle for the first time last night, and was horribly uncomfortable (despite trying every position imaginable). I am going to try again tonight--. Honestly, my shoulders, hips, and wrists hurt when I sleep on my sides--but I read that sleeping on the back compresses important vessels. Truthfully, I end up on my back no matter what as I inevitably turn onto it during the middle of the night. I also have been waking up with night sweats...

Mrs U

Hi ladies!

QOTD I've been sleeping with a pillow since 6 weeks when I started having back pains. Woke up this morning to no circulation in my left arm from sleeping on my leftside. I really wish I could cut my arms off so I can sleep better. I do find myself sleeping on my back until Pete tells me to roll over due to heavy breathing (but not quite snoring :p )

I'm not sure if I have felt the baby moving yet or if it's just gas. I'm sure soon enough I'll feel something constantly.

*edit to add: I've gained 4 centimeters around the belly from a week and a half ago- maybe I'll be in maternity clothes by Christmas?!?:)

Jen1098

QOTD Ugh, it takes me forever to get comfortable when trying to fall asleep. I'm constantly switching sides. I've heard left is better so I try and do that but this protruding belly of mine is already making me quite uncomfortable.

Hey everyone! I hope you all had wonderful Thanksgiving. We spent the entire weekend at my parents' house with all of my siblings. My brother drove up from Quantico and my sister flew in from LA (the rest of them live locally). It was really nice. :)

Before I forget, I finally scheduled my u/s for December 13th. I put it off until we get back from Florida. I also decided that I would like to find out the sex if the little one cooperates. I guess I'm not very good with surprises after all. :p

QOTD-I always start off on my side and end up on my back. I'm not really worried about it. I've slept like this throughout all of my pregnancies untill the end when it just gets way too uncomfortable to sleep on my back and amazingly I just flip from side to side all night without waking up on my back.

Jen1098-I have a hard time getting comfortable, too. I'm just savoring the present time where I can sleep on my side and not feel like my hip is breaking. Ouch. I remember that being a problem with my other pregnancies. I totally get winded carrying my kids up and down the stairs but I haven't had any problems breathing while I'm in bed yet. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Mrs U-Here's to (maybe) feeling the baby move!

marchfamily-Yay for feeling the baby move!

Guiness-I hope you and DH are feeling much better. What a way to end the weekend!

jarm-I'm sure everything is fine and I hope you're feeling better soon. Did you call your doctor just to get peace of mind?

Southlooper-(The worse part of a holiday is the end.)

So true! I'm so sad DH has to go back to work. Boo!

kristin9903-Ah. Catnaps on the couch! That sounds like a perfect holiday to me. :D

I guess I should get caught up on some housework. We haven't been home for days and the smell coming from my refrigerator is foul. I'm afraid to see what we forgot to throw out before we left for the weekend. Blech! Hoping I don't lose my breakfast! :D

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving too :)

I was exhuasted after everyone left our house on Thursday evening but it was all worth it. The weekend was just as busy but I was able to lounge around yesterday so that was good.

QOTD: I had a horrible night last night geting comfortable but its not because my belly is in the way. It's DH! We have a full bed and I would love to just stretch out sometimes. No matter how big our bed is he always has to be right next to me. We've even stayed at hotels in King beds and he still manages to be right next me. I know I complain, but sometimes I wake up cold in the night because I realize he isn't right next to me, so I have to scoot back over to get warm again. Anyway, sorry for that tangent.

I'm not sure extra pillows would work for me yet. I think I was just restless from lounging around all day yesterday.

Hi Ladies-

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We had a nice mix of crazy traveling and some down time at home, so it was great!

QoTD: Sleep is weird for me. Sometimes I need a pillow between my legs and under my belly, sometimes I don't. There is no rhyme or reason to it yet. I start out sleeping on my left side, but I change positions during the night. I was told by my Perinatologist that sleeping on my back is OK- basically you'd feel very very uncomfortable and move on your own before any damage is done sleeping that way. The only way I don't sleep any more is on my belly- that is just getting too uncomfy!

This u/s pic is a bit old, it is from 2 weeks ago when I was 13w4d but I just got it scanned, so I thought I'd share.

Wow I feel so behind! I'm glad everyone had a great Turkey Day! It was great to see my parents and relatives, many of who I haven't seen since we conceived.

I still haven't felt the baby move yet, but I'm analyzing everything that goes on down there! Hopefully it won't be too long.

I had a doctor's apt today and we heard the heartbeat again. 156 BPM. Even though we have the doppler I never get tired of hearing it!

My next appointment with the big u/s is December 19th! Just in time for Christmas!

Sleep: I usually start off on one of my sides and end up on my belly. I've never been a back sleeper and I don't think that will change. I don't really feel ready yet for extra pillows or a body pillow yet.

CB Classes: I just asked the doctor about this today. They told me not to worry about it until the end of the second trimester, beginning of the third, but I will be delivering at a wonderful hospital and all of the childbirth classes go through that hospital.

Hope everyone was able to relax a bit over the long weekend!

We finally told my parents. Phew! It is amazing how at 33 they can still make me feel like a kid. I was so nervous right before we told them - like they'd be mad I had had s-e-x! I guess my mom didn't really want to admit I had sex either because her first thought when she saw the "I heart grandma" onesie was that our DOG was having puppies   She was excited once she figured it out though. And, they offered to get us the crib we want, so that made us (read: me) happy.

I definitely felt the babe move a couple of times this weekend. Once I felt a tap tap and then another time I felt a swish right when I laid down to go to bed. At least one of those had to be the baby.

Sleep: Sucks. I get the worst hip pain. I took a 1 1/2 hour nap yesterday from 3-4:30 and it was the best sleep I've had in so long. No idea why. My snoogle gets here this week and I am just praying it helps. i guess I don't necessarily think it's bad to sleep on my back since my Dr. hasn't actually said anything about it, but I think about if something terrible were to happen, I would blame myself for being on my back, so I choose not to.

Cramps: I am not having that many, but once in a while I will get a shooting pain that feels like it is a lighting rod coming out through me "down there" I haven't really worried about it. I just think I'm pregnant and things are shifting/growing/changing. It's part of the deal.

CB classes: I think I mentioned, we are already signed up for a weekend class at the end of January. I will still need to take a separate B/F class and then also an infant CPR.

Tomorrow I go in for my AFP test. My understanding is that I go to my dr's office to get weighed (I'm up 5 lbs) and then to the lab for a blood draw. Then I get results in a week or so.

Have wonderful Monday my fellow May Mommies!

Em7.31.04

Classes: I'm required to take CPR/First Aid for work...The cost is covered by my employer, so I went ahead and signed up for the more in-depth class that will cover infant/child CPR and First Aid. So, I won't be taking that class through our hospital. I'm taking it the next two Saturdays...which will suck to take up an entire day of two weekends, but that's ok. It will benefit me (us) in the end! :)

Cramps: I had some pretty bad cramps on Saturday and Sunday...Mostly at night. I hadn't had cramps like that in about a month...and to be honest, they made me really nervous. I haven't had any today, so I don't plan on calling my midwife's office. Unless they start up again...I hope not!

Our next appointment is 12/5 (was already scheduled). We can't wait!! We haven't been in since just before 8w, so I'm feeling really paranoid that something could have happened in the last few weeks of the 1st trimester. I'm sure it's nothing, but I can't help but think that way. Is anyone else still paranoid?

Sleeping: My goodness, I am having the hardest time sleeping!! I usually don't have trouble falling asleep...But then I wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and then I can't go back to sleep because DH is snoring/breathing loud/taking up the entire bed. I usually end up going to our guest room for the rest of the night. I feel bad, but I really feel like it's important to get my sleep. And DH doesn't realize I'm gone until he wakes up for work. Does that make me a bad wife?

Nursery: This weekend we started moving furniture around and getting things organized (read: getting rid of crap!!). We currently have two extra bedrooms. One is an office and one is our guest room. We're going to combine the two rooms into the bigger one (guest room). We'll have to get rid of one computer desk and a lot of crap...But I think it will be fine to have a combined guest room/office. We hardly use either room anyway...except when we have guests overnight (rarely). Has anyone else starting working on their nursery?

Is it just me...or are some cribs really expensive? We've been looking at Baby Depot, Babies R Us, and USA Baby...And some are just so pricey. My goodness. I suspect that we'll have some help from our parents, but we don't know at this point what we'll get...And we don't want to think for sure that we're getting it, and then not end up getting it. .you know?

Bloomwood Congrats on telling your parents - that's so funny that your mom thought the dog was pregnant!

Em I don't think you're a bad wife - get sleep however you can!!! I've started thinking about the nursery but we won't actually be doing anything physical until Christmas when Eco's parents are here to help us. We've got a bedroom in the basement where we store all of our gym equipment and then we've got two extra bedrooms on the main floor. One is "my room" - with my computer and a daybed for guests and the other is a regular guest room. The guest room will become the nursery so we're spending Christmas getting the basement bedroom ready to be the guest room (which will eventually be the Au Pair's room).

I had my 15w appointment today and it was so disappointing. All she did (other than the usual blood pressure, urine, weighing) was use a doppler to hear the heartbeat. Of course it's always cool to hear that, but since I've already done it at home, it seemed kind of a waste to spend 90 minutes going to my OB for that!

Next appointment is December 9 and that's the amnio. I'm a little nervous, but I'm excited to see another sonogram and to find out the sex!! I'm hoping the results come back before Xmas, but it'll be tight.

We haven't started thinking about the nursery yet. But we did paint our bedroom and DD's bedroom this past weekend! (We've been here for a year but hadn't gotten to that yet). They look awesome! Still have to do baseboards. Once we know the sex we'll pick out a color for baby's room. Right now it is my office, and it's going to have to move down to the basement...very sad sad for me since I'm on the computer all the time. I'm still trying to think of another place for the computer. But our guest room is too small to add a desk. And our basement is too gloomy (and without a good bathroom) to ask guests to sleep in.

Sleep stinks. DH has been sleeping in the guest room so I can sleep. It's very pathetic. But seems to help.

I'm fighting nervousness b/c our NT test apparently was just borderline abnormal, as far as the ultrasound goes. The bloodwork will really determine whether we need to worry or not, and I don't complete that till this friday. Then I have to wait a week for results. Sheesh! The dr. said she's not at all concerned, since they need all the pieces of the puzzle before coming to any conclusions. But it's hard to wait for the rest of the info!

Good morning!

Feeling a little better. Thank goodness. Luckily today is a slow day, so I can take it easy. I do have a dentist appointment - ugh.

Nursery We haven't started and probably won't until Jan or Feb. It is going to go in our current guestroom and our old office will become the guestroom. We moved the office into a builtin in our large 'hallway'. It will work great. Can't figure out what furniture to get though. Has anyone picked out nursery furniture? Please post I need inspiration :D

Sleep I am a pillow queen. DH hates it, but oh well. I have a line of pillows on one side and a body pillow on the other. I am a side sleeper with pillows anyway, so any excuse for more - bring it on. I did ask my doc about laying on my back. He said it is a nonissue, because when it matters it will be too uncomfortable to do. As for being a bad wife, trust me I will be 10x's worse with no sleep:eek: DHs should count their blessings!!

Classes We need to ask about this at the next appointment. Hoping to start them in Feb, but could do Jan if need be.

Cramps Still got them. I do think yesterday I really felt the baby kicking. It was very persistent and right above my pubic bone. YAY

Hope everyone has a good day.

I've been so busy that I have barely been by here. I hope things will slow down soon so I can hang out a little.

We had an appointment yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat (love that sound) My next appointment and big u/s is December 27 I can't wait to see my little one again.

Found out the baby's h/b is 155, which according to the old wives' tale means a girl. We've been calling the baby a "he" from the beginning but last night DH was calling the baby a "she" and I was still saying "he". It was funny.

Sleeping- I asked my doctor about the sleeping on the back thing, and he said when I get bigger it will uncomfortable to sleep on my back but for now it's fine. I usually sleep on my side anyway, but occasionally I wake up on my back. I guess it make sense that the point when it would be uncomfortable is the point when it would be unsafe. If I was a total back sleep I would try sleeping on my side for now anyway to make it easier later.

Nursery- I've been doing a little research but haven't chosen anything or seen anything in person. I bought Baby Bargains so I've been devouring that. The only thing I know I want is a side that drops down. The stationary sides are very attractive, but I'm 5' 1" and know I'd have trouble bending over the side.

Good morning everyone!

Just dropping by real quick to say I'm an aunt again. DH's sis had her baby this morning, a little boy, 7lbs 10 oz, 20 inches long. His name is Dante (her DH comes from a very Italian family, my other nephew is Vito).

Even though I have been all girl with this baby, it would be fun if it were a boy because then Dante and his cousin would only be a few months apart. My poor niece would be outnumbered 4 to 1 though!

Nursery: We've looked here and there. I know I definitely want a crib with a drop down side, and we really like dark wood, but other than that I have no idea. We haven't even started doing anything with the nursery room itself. I'm hoping to get some of that done after the holidays.

Good morning everyone. :) After 12 hours of cleaning, sorting, and organizing yesterday (no joke) my house is finally clean. :p Lots of vacuuming, dusting, cleaning out closets, sorting through and organizing kiddie clothes, yadda, yadda. I'm actually heading off to Target to get some more bins for toys and clothes. I need organization right now! I can't stand clutter.

mrsk-Congrats on becoming an aunt again!

lowcountrywed-Yay for hearing the heartbeat!

Guiness-Glad you're feeling better. We haven't picked out nursery furniture yet but we're probably going with the same style and colors that my daugters have, this way I can use Ava's old crib. All of our furniture came from Bellini and we've been very happy with it. I'll post pictures later if I get a chance.

shortcake -I'm sorry you're feeling a bit nervous. Hopefully you'l get your results ASAP so you can put your mind at ease.

fats-Sorry your appointment was disappointing. Uneventful is good though. :)

Em7.31.04-I'm not exactly paranoid but I am a bit of a worrier by nature in all areas of my life. I'm trying not to let myself get too stressed because I know it's not good for the baby.

Bloomwood-Congrats on telling your parents!

Found out the baby's h/b is 155, which according to the old wives' tale means a girl.

Same here - baby's hb was 155 and while I think all the wives tales are complete crap, I'm hoping this one might be true!!

mrsk Congrats on the new nephew!!!

Kim Sounds like someone is nesting!!

Nursery I want a drop down crib and probably one that will convert into a toddler bed. I don't care as much about the toddler bed as I do about having an adjustable mattress (that will drop down lower when the baby gets older) and I think most of those are actually the cribs that convert to beds later on. It's also easier to justify the cost to DH when I tell him the crib can be used for years and years!!!

I want to go to BabysRUs before Xmas just to browse and get an idea of what we like, then after the holidays, I plan to go to Buy Buy Baby, where we'll actually register for stuff. I've heard that the furniture can take a long time to come in (and the glider even longer) so I want to do that as early as possible.

My biggest problem is color - I have no idea what color wood to get!!! I love dark wood but then I wonder if it'll be too dark for a nursery - isn't natural wood or white more "babyish"?

Nursery - Baby2 will get the Pottery Barn - Rabbit Patch - set we had for DD. E will hopefully convert to a toddler bed around 18 months and we're planning on getting her new girly bedding (love Pottery Barns Butterfly set). Our kiddos will share a room, so it might get interesting in terms of decorating.

Nervous about appts - I got nervous before almost every appt with baby1 and still get nervous with baby2.

11-29-2005, 09:11 AM
Cribs -Don't most cribs have a mattress that drops down? This is totally useful. Also I found the drop down rail essential (but I'm short) - if you are tall you could get away without it. We have a Pali crib in dark wood - it's nice. But we had to get it at a fancy baby store and they have so many nice ones at BRU I probably would have just gone there in retrospect! One thing I realized - if you are planning on using a bumper, make sure it can be tied onto the crib you pick! Ours can, but just barely. Some of the beautiful cribs have such thick corner posts (or even solid headboards) that you wouldn't be able to.

Baby 2 will get the same stuff DD had if it's a girl. If it's a boy I will find some other bedding - but I'll have to sneak it past DH who thinks that PBK flower sheets are fine for a boy since "he won't care" and we are trying to save money!! Crazy guy.

I've wanted it since before we got pg. My mom graciously offered to get it for us. It takes 6-8 weeks for production, so I guess we'll order it in February. This (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=3321&page=35) page of my journal has all my BOY ideas. Girls I haven't really thought about yet b/c there are too many fun things out there.

We too are making the guest room into a shared office/guest room. The office is right off our bedroom and connected through a bathroom and at the back of the house, so it is ideal. I have a girlfriend coming to visit in mid-January so probably once she's gone we'll start the transition.

When will everyone register? Will you register if you aren't having a shower (first-timers)?

I'm off to get weighed and blood drawn for the AFP. Oh joy! The only good part is that I'm about 80 pages from the end of A Million Little Pieces, so I won't mind sitting and waiting at the lab for my turn. :p

bloomwood -What a cute crib!

Anyone have any ideas on where to get a rug for the baby's room? I know PBK has adorable ones, but I'm curious where else to look - less expensive options?

Hey everyone - just wanted to say hello although I don't have much to add!

I have a u/s on 12/5 -15 weeks - and then another one scheduled for 12/21 - 17 weeks - (I have a subchorionic hematoma they're monitoring). I'm crossing fingers, toes, and eyes hoping to find out the gender before the after-Christmas sales!

With Nora - we didn't find out until 21 weeks cause she was a little trouble maker.

Bloomwood: I think we'll register at Babies R Us, and maybe also Pottery Barn Kids. I know I'll be having at least two showers...my girlfriends have offered to throw one locally, and a family friend of DH's has offered to throw one in California. Fun! The only trick will be figuring out how to get things from CA back to WA after the shower. We may have to drive for that trip!

Feeling so good today...what a blessing. I am eating freely...which is good that I'm not feeling picky anymore...but also bad because I could start packing on the pounds!

Speaking of pounds...Has anyone maintained or lost weight so far? I am down 6 lbs since finding out I was pg...Weird. My weight must have all shifted around to my bbs and decreased somewhere else. :p

Does anyone else have stretch marks already? I have some new, hideous ones popping up on my thights and hips...Gross. Not a good sign of things to come. I can only imagine the road map that will be on my belly by the time the baby is ready to join the world. Yikes!!

Had my Dr. appt today. Went well, had my AFP testing done while there. He wasn't to pleased that I have only gained 4 lbs since becoming pregnant. He asked if I was eating enough protein. I try but it's tough. But this is what it was like when I was pregnant last time. I didn't gain much through out my whole pregnancy but towards the end oh boy I had a huge belly. Must have been all those ice cream bars the Dr.'s I worked with were making me eat.

I tried to schedule my u/s but couldn't get a hold of anyone at the office. I told Dr. about my shortness of breath etc. He said it's probably pregnancy related but wants me to see my pcp to have him make sure. So I'll see him 12/8.

mrsk Congrats on becoming an aunt again.

Kim Wow you were one busy lady. Can you come to my house next please?:D

fats We have Cherry for our crib, dresser, and glider and I love it. I second what Shortcake said about the bars. With our crib we weren't able to properly hook up the ocean wonders aquarium b/c the bars were to thick.

Bloomwood What a great looking crib. It looks so elegant! I keep meaning to pick up that book. I hear it's great. I'll save it for my vacation in Florida next month.

Em7.31.04 I'm glad you're feeling better.

Well DH is off picking me up an ice cream sundea. YAY.

I had an okay day apart from having to diffuse tons of problems... Aside from that, my blood was drawn for the AFP this morning --and the "smart" nurse took my weight with my clothing and shoes on...

No patience for individual shout-outs now after dealing with my dad a few hours ago....but here are my responses to the QOTD:

Has anyone maintained or lost weight so far? Nope...I have happily gained weight. I think that pre-pregnancy weight was 107/108 --and as of this evening, fully dressed (without shoes) I was 120.5! Okay, I have eaten throughout the day, and my clothes weigh something--so I presume that I am around 118 --a gain of 10-11 poinds. My breasts have gone from barely a B --to an overflowing C--and my stomach truly stands out.

Does anyone else have stretch marks already? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I still have stretch marks that never completely went away from when I had my daughter almost 12 years ago. And, I am quite active (at minimum, I walk 3+ miles per day even while pregnant) --but my doctor told me that the muscle tone in my breasts would never be what it was before I had my daughter. This means that there is indeed some sag/droop --all these years later. Your experiences may be different, but based on conversations with friends and family members with older kids--a woman's body will not look exactly like it did pre-pregnancy.

When will everyone register? Will you register if you aren't having a shower (first-timers)? Registering for things makes me uncomfortable –just like I don’t like telling people to get me birthday gifts. I specifically told my mother-in-law and have been telling friends that I do not want or need a shower. I think that I mentioned it, but for our “engagement party”, we had our friends/family help us in a soup kitchen and then had a pot luck. I did think about registering for a random teenage mom and asking my friends to pitch in and get her all the stuff she is going to need.

Has anyone else starting working on their nursery? We actually have a 2 bedroom apartment –but will not be bumping up to a 3 bedroom due to excessive cost. Our lease is up at the end of June –but we have no clue whether or not to renew it for a 5th year. Like every other place around the country, NYC experienced considerable froth –and we are hoping to buy once prices start to drop—. Although, this is New York –and no one foresees prices being what they were in the 80s –so, we are just thinking now… This ultimately means that baby numero dos will be hanging out in his or her crib –in our room.

Speaking of cribs and other baby gear: Like everything else, there is a wide spectrum in terms of prices. More expensive does not necessarily mean better quality. There are tons of product rating services out there for baby stuff –and even within that you really need to be realistic and get what you need. If the options seem daunting and confusing, definitely post your questions in here, and hopefully the group can allay your fears or at least prompt you with the right questions about things you need/want.

Can anyone else tell how verbose I have been lately? Eeks!

nettreefrog - that is such a cool idea to register for a needy mom! You sound like a very giving person, kudos to you. Also, about the apartment thing - I was feeling surprised that most of us seemed to have an office/guest room type thing that could be converted to a baby's room...I wish you luck figuring out what to do in June. NYC must be tough! We moved away from the Bay Area of California basically due to housing costs, so I can understand. (We were in a 1 br apt there).

weight - I have only gained a few pounds so far. My doctor said she doesn't worry till 16 weeks (I'm only 14w 4d or so now) but I bet I need to eat more protein too. I don't think I've had meat/chicken more than once a week!!! It's just so icky to cook it right now. And we can't afford to eat out much (with DD I think we ate out a lot more, and so I got more variety of food).

Hi all

Been awhile since I checked in.

Going well here! I am on weekly appts it seems, nice to be monitored so closely, but it is kind of a drag - well, the travel is. Takes me 90 minutes to get there and back, and the appt only goes for 10 or so minutes. Oh well!

I haven't gained weight yet, still down about 5 pounds from my silly morning sickness. Back to a normal type of appetite now, certainly nowhere near ravenous though.

We bought our new pram recently, love it! It is a Valco Rebel, we bought the toddler seat for Ruby as well.

http://www.valco.com.au/Images/Product/Pic1152005153129.jpg

We got it in blue. It is reversible, so for the first few months or so I will have the baby facing me - our pram for Ruby didn't face me, so I am excited about this! Silly the things that make us happy. :)

Bought a new carseat too, Ruby will use that and this baby will use hers.

I finally started feeling definite movements on Monday, it is wonderful, and weird! Felt quite a few today already.

My big ultrasound is 12 December, I am so psyched for it! I am sure we are having a boy (can my guess be changed from girl to boy please?). So far we seem to agree on the name Benjamin. It is so hard to find a boys name we both like! Girls names are so much easier for some reason.

Better run, can hear Ruby rearranging things in the bathroom!

A quick post because I am sleepy. My doctor called and said that my AFP came back normal (I didn't have the triple or quad screen-just the AFP since I had a NT, combined with blood work at 13 weeks). I'm surprised I got the results this fast since in the past it's taken up to two weeks. I'm not complaining though. ;)

I'm off to get some sleep! I'll be back tomorrow. Goodnight all!

Sorry I have been MIA lately. We traveled to Mississippi and got back on Monday afternoon. I am so tired!

I had an appt yesterday with a Maternal Fetal Medicine Dr. I was not sure what the appt was for since my last pg we had an initial appt at 8 wks and then the big u/s around 20 wks. Anyway, I did my AFP bloodwork last week. When I went to the appt yesterday and asked what they were doing- I found out it was my Big U/S. So, we got to see the baby and got the results of the AFP testing. Everything looked great. The U/S was at least 45 minutes long- I don't remember it being that long with my daughter. We made sure and told them that we didn't want to know the sex! I do have to go back in 4 weeks to check something with the stomach that they can't see until closer to 20 weeks. But, other than that I am done with the specialist and will just be with my normal ob from now on!

I am off to catch up on the thread- haven't been on here since last Tuesday!

Hey Mommies!

Well going to see my SIL and nephew in the hospital last night brought up so many things about labor and delivery for me. Sometimes I feel totally unprepared and I'm not sure what I can do to prepare myself. I also felt bad watching her walk around all padded up with ice packs, etc. I'm sure a lot of the fear and anxiety comes from the fact that labor and delivery are just this big unknown. There are so many things to consider that I never even occured to me.

I also have all these fears about what happens after delivery, What if we don't bond? What if I have no idea what to do?, What if I never lose this extra weight? What if my bbs get huge and never go back to their normal size?

Maintained or lost weight: Nope. I've gained about 10lbs since becoming pregnant. My breasts haven't changed at all yet, but I was well endowed to begin with.

Stretch marks: Nothing yet, but I do have this strange spider vein on my belly?

Registry: We will probably register in Jan/Feb at Babies R Us, Pottery Barn Kids and maybe Walmart or Target for the folks at home that don't have either of the above. Both my showers are in March.

Hi all!!
Weight I actually had a mini-depression yesterday because I feel like I've gained so much weight. It's actually only been about 10 pounds since getting pg, but I had put on 10-15 pounds before that (got very lax with my exercise and eating habits after the wedding), so I'm really unhappy - it's just that much more to lose later. I've finally (this week) started exercising and trying to eat less crap. I only walk on the treadmill in the morning, but it's more than I was doing for the last 4 months.

Stretch Marks I haven't noticed any new ones yet but I'm sure I'll get them. I've gotten them in the past just from weight gain and loss, so I'm sure the pregnancy will result in more.

Registering/Shower I'm going to go 'browse' at BRU this month and then probably register at Buy Buy Baby in January/February. That seems to be the more popular baby chain in the city (NY). I'm mostly concerned about picking out our furniture early because there can be such a long shipping time. Eco's sister is going to throw us a joint shower, probably around the end of March/beginning of April.

Question What exactly is the "big ultrasound"? I just assumed it was where you can tell the sex of the baby, but it sounds like they do a lot more than that (my friend said it can take up to an hour). Since I'm having an amnio I haven't done any of the testing that you all have been going for and now I'm wondering if I'm supposed to be getting the 'big ultrasound' or if it's all part of my amnio.

The purpose Big U/S is actually to make sure that the baby's organs are all correctly formed - not really soley to find out the gender. They also look for cleft palate and club foot and that type of thing. Our u/s tech spent about 30 minutes just checking out all 4 chambers of the heart and got all pissy with us that we kept asking about the gender.

ETA - I think it will be in addition to your amnio - since they won't be able to tell from the fluid if the organs are formed correctly.

Weight - Still down, but I was the same with baby2 and gained 47#. I was lucky and lost all of it before my 6 week appt after delivery.

Big U/S - With DD, it was so short. She was sleeping and the tech was able to do all the measurements likidy-split.

I have to take my Diabetes test before the U/S, so hopefully the sugary orange drink will make the baby dance!

nettreefrog - that is so generous of you! I am sure you will make a young mother very happy. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

caro - love the pram!

weight - I'm probably up 6 lbs or so. I've gained a couple in the past two weeks as my Dr. predicted. I'm always weighed with my clothes on at the doctor. Last time I tried to pick a light out fit while yesterday I was wearing jeans and wool sweater.

stretch marks - none yet, but I'm sure they're on the way. I also have some on my outter thighs from weight gain/loss in the past. yuck. I am starting to see the blue veins on my stomach.

Speaking of stomach....I am showing. Yesterday our dry cleaner, that I haven't seen in a few weeks, totally noticed. (jeans and loose sweater, so I wasn't trying to show). She asked if I was 7 months along!! This weekend, my mom said "you're showing a lot for just 4 months, aren't you?" Geez. These people. Today I am going into my office for the first time in two weeks and I'll see what kind of reaction I get from them. oiy!

QOTD's first

weight I was concerned at first because I wasn't gaining anything. But last I checked (think it was Sunday monring) I am up 4 lbs. I go back to the doctor on Friday so I'll know more then.

stretch marks Don't have any that I know of yet. I know you can't prevent them, but I hope I don't get any. I've heard its also heriditary. My mom had none with my brother and only got a few small ones on her bb's with me.

Registering/Shower I've browsed at things online at BRU and BuyBuy Baby. I think we'l register in late January/early February. I have no idea when there would be any showers as no one has brought it up yet. I'm guessing they would be in April.

nettreefrog that's a great idea. So where would one find out about a teen mother in need? Let me know. I wonder where I could find something like that out in my area.

Bloomwood Sometimes I think I'm showing alot. Other times I think I'm not showing at all. We'll all be pretty big soon enough I'm sure. I think the dry cleaning person has been around too many fumes. 7 months? lol!

I went to the mall at lunch today and bought a new bra (and matching panties of course) from VS. I went up a cup size from B to C! I'm excited because I have always wanted to be a bit more blessed in that area. Then I got my eyebrows threaded and stopped by Wendy's for a taco salad. I also ordered a side of Chili (who knew it already came with one?) so I had two. The salad was not too appealing so I ate both Chili's. Next time I'll save some money and just buy the chili instead.

Lolly: I have a few ideas for how you could go about finding a teen mom in need. See you can find an Early Head Start program in your area...maybe try googling it? I work at a childcare center with an Early Head Start program...it's for low-income parents with children ages prenatal-3 years old. Some programs are at childcare centers, others are home-based. Depends on the needs of the families. You could easily find a prenatal mom in need - high-needs goes hand-in-hand w/enrollment in the program. Or, call around to some childcare centers in your area and ask if they have any low-income, needy moms (of infants) to be adopted. Just a thought...I hope this information is helpful!

So, today I started my maternity leave process through my employer's HR department. I don't actually plan on returning to work, but I need to do the process and paperwork just in case I change my mind. I have to get a written statement from my midwife that includes verification that I am pregnant, and what my estimated due date is. I have to turn that in to get the process started. Crazy.

On a very exciting note...I called my insurance company to verify my benefits for hospitalization and delivery. We will have to pay nothing, I repeat, nothing. I couldn't believe it. Hospitalization, labs, nursery care, everything is paid at 100%. No co-payment. No nothing. WOW! I sure am glad that I stayed on my insurance and didn't switch to DH's. His isn't nearly this good.

I had an appointment at the OB today. The best news was that my AFP was negative, woo hoo. The heartbeat was strong and easy to find. Everything was good.

Weight I've gained about 4 pounds. Until the Dr tells me otherwise, I'm not going to worry about it. I don't ordinarily weigh myself because the numbers tend to drive me batty. I've always focused on eating well and exercise. That's the plan for now too.

Registering Probably not until after the holidays. I'm looking forward to it, in that it will be good to have a definite list of what we need, instead of wondering. A good friend of mine and my sister in law of both mentioned throwing showers. I'm hoping to get the two of them in touch with each other, so I just have one, not too large shower. I don't really enjoy being the center of attention. Actually, I'm hoping it will be a couples shower, but I have a hard time imagining some of DHs friends agreeing. I've got some time before worrying about it.

Speaking of time, our neighbor's daughter is due in July. Apparently, she's already bought a stroller, a crib, and a bunch of other stuff. I haven't bought anything, I figure there's still plenty of time. Anyone else?

Wow Em7.31.04, I can't believe that about your insurance! That's great! The ob office just hit me w/ the total bill for all of my visits last month which seemed large but it includes my deductible, actually my cousin who's due in June told me that w/ her insurance she has to pay 50% of EVERYTHING! the dr, the hospital...whew...I can't imagine. I don't feel so bad now!

Weight Gain- I'm up 7 lbs, last night for some reason I completely freaked out and made dh look at me from all angles to tell me if I just look fat or pg. I got the same type of comment as Bloomwood over Thanksgiving- wow, you're big for 4 months...gee, thanks...

Registering- Planning on BRU and PBK and we'll do both after Christmas. My shower has been planned for March 25th ( my bf is very excited as I'm the last of my friends to have kids so she's planning now!). I haven't bought anything for the nursery, it's almost as though I haven't wanted to jinx myself which I know is crazy. Over the past couple of weeks we've had a couple of friends who are done w/ babies give us some toys, etc which is great- bring on the freebies :) We'll most likely shop for the nursery late Jan/ Feb.

Good morning. No time for s/o's right now because I have to get Ava ready for preschool (I'll be back later), I was just wondering if anybody else has been plagued with headaches throughout their pregnancies so far? This is getting old. Again I woke up with a pounding headache. I seem to be getting at least one or 2 a week and they last ALL day. I'm starting to get concerned because I've never experienced this during my other pregnancies (though I am prone to migraines).

Kim - I've been getting a lot of headaches. I try to let them run their course, but usually end up taking 2 regular strength tylenol and they go away. Good luck!

Kim- so glad you mentioned that b/c I was going to post the same question. I never got headaches- now I'm averaging 2 to 3 a week. I try to battle thru them, but they are bad enough that I need to take at least one Extra Strength Tylenol to get rid of them.

Some old QoTD:
Weight: I lost lost 6 lbs in my first trimester, then gain 1 lb back between 11w5d and 13w5d. I go back into the doctor this Monday, so I'll see how much I've gained in 3 weeks. I don't weigh myself at home- it's just not worth the stress.

Registering: Quite honestly, I'm not mentally prepared to have *any* baby stuff in my house yet. It's most likely b/c of my past miscarriages, but unfortunately I don't equate pregnancy with a baby yet. Once I hit that 24w mark, then I'll start thinking about registering and decorating the nursery.

Stretch Marks: Nothing yet! I've been using Palmer's stretch mark lotion since around 8 weeks. Not sure if it's helping prevent the marks, but it does help with the itching.

Have a great day!

Guinness

Kim I have had the headaches for several weeks. I usually take one tylenol and it helps.

The last couple days however, no headache and TERRIBLE Heartburn - ugh. It wakes me up at night and leads to throwing up. Anyone else getting this?? Today I am going to eat very bland and very small meals to see if it helps.

Weight By the Drs. scales I was up 2 punds total, but I think I have added a couple to that now. Doc said last time, 'time to start gaining some weight'

Registering Kind of browsed to do it, but no idea where to start. A friend who just had a baby is going to meet with me over christmas and take me around BRU to show me things I will need and why. That should help!!

Stretch marks none for me yet. But maybe I should be using some preventive lotion. Heather Where do you get the Palmer's stretch lotion??

Happy Thursday!!

Guinness- I picked up my bottle at Target. But I have also seen it at my grocery, CVS, etc. It's pretty cheap and so far so good. I looked at more expensive creams (the stuff at GNC is like $63), but I can't imagine spending that much! My $5 bottle will do me just fine! :)

I had one or two headaches, but nothing consistent.

Has anyone been getting leg cramps or numbness? This has been happening to me for the past few weeks - in my thighs (mostly the right leg but sometimes the left). I was afraid I had a blood clot or something but the doctor said it's just one of the inexplicable pregnancy symptoms. It's really alarming though - I wake up and my whole upper leg is numb. I hate it.

I didn't realize insurance varies so much. My coverage pays for everything as well. I think I had a $10 copay for my very first visit and after that I don't have to pay a dime (although if I get one of the luxury rooms in the hospital, that'll be out of pocket, but worth every penny IMO)

Just a quick post because things are crazy at work today!

Headaches: I get them more often now then I used to and I have had a few that completely incapacitated me for the day. Usually tylenol works for me, I use the rapid release kind, but when I get those other headaches it seems like nothing much helps.

Stretch Marks: What's the difference between the stretch mark lotion and a regular lotion or body butter?

Heartburn: I don't have it quite that bad Guinness, but I do get it on occassion. I've had problems with heartburn even when I'm not pregnant so I'm surprised I haven't had it worse. I just try to be really careful with my diet, but that's not always easy especially when you're pregnant. Have you tried pepcid? It's on my list of medicines from my doctor.

Numbness: Not really. Sometimes my legs/arms are more tingly lately. Maybe it is a nerve related thing?

Headaches - I had a headache for about 19 days in a row! I have been prone to migranes in the past, but 19 days?!?! I asked my dr about them, and she said it was normal. I could take Tylenal or she could write me a prescription for Tylenal 3 or Darvacet. Seems odd to be able to take either one of those when the list of Can't Haves is so long. I opted for the Tylenal. I guess this is my punishment for no m/s. However, the headache went away Sunday night and hasn't returned, so far (I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

Weight - I have gained about 4 pounds since my first dr visit but those four pounds must have brought a lot of mass with them, nothing fits!! My clothes are too small and maternity clothes are too big. Uhg. :(

Registering - I don't when we are going to do this. I am such a procrastinator, I hope we can get it done in time for the shower which will be in April. I can't really decide on anything yet anyway - I keep thinking when I know if I'm shopping for a boy or girl it will be easier. It will be, right?

Stretchmarks - nothing yet, but I am too slathering on the Palmers. It smells very coco-y :)

Insurance - Em & Fats, I am SO jealous. That is great insurance! My dr office already calculated my total out of pocket expense (barring any major complications) and I am making a small payment with each visit. By the time the baby gets here, it will all be paid for - one less thing to worry about :)

(sorry for the two posts, but I don't know how to quote without starting a new one)

Numbness -I get this if I sit at the computer doing CC for too long. It's not as bad as some of you are describing, but it is a change for me.

Stretch marks - Mine are finally faded from DD but I guess I'll get some more. I didn't get them too bad - on my bbs and hips. I did use cocoa butter (from Body Shop) but not religiously, so I can't say whether that helped or not - sure feels good though!

Insurance - With DD we moved part way through, which meant 2 deductables, plus both required us to pay a certain percent (I think 10%) so we ended up spending somewhere around $2K. With this one, it looks like our new insurance (DH is at a different job) will pay for everything except for my initial $15 copay at the first visit!! We are so happy about that!

Having stuff in the house Well with DD we were a bit "superstitious" about getting stuff too early, but with this one I'm already looking for deals on things I need (ebay, etc). There obviously are far fewer things this time! I just got a Fisher Price Aquarium swing for $30 (on craigslist) and am psyched - we didn't have a swing at all for DD and I soooo wish we had. And this is the exact one I want.

Wow, what an active thread these days.

weight I was down about 6 lbs at my last appt, we'll see how that turns out Friday. I suspect I'll be up a few more from last month. I started on the heavy side, so they are not at all worried about the weight. They never said much last time either and I didn't put any on until much later.

stretch marks Unfortunately I've got a bunch, mostly from my first pregnancy. I guess I should have tried some of the creams, but now, whats the point?

headaches I've had a ton, but they are mostly sinus headaches, if the weather would get stay cold, I might have a shot at getting better. I know that I had several migraines with my DS, the doctor said they are very common since your hormones are going crazy. However, if you are getting lots of headaches and dizzy, make sure to watch what your blood pressure is, it could be a sign that it's high.

registering Doesn't really apply since this is baby #2. However, I can't wait to find out what we are having so I can buy at least something for him/her. I want to start thinking of stuff for the nursery, but have told myself to wait until after we know.

insurance with my DS we paid the doctor a $20 co-pay and then the hospital bill was $108, it was awesome. We aren't as lucky this time, although DH works for a much larger company the insurance isn't as good. We have to pay the doctors office a portion by 7 months (I think) and then the hospital bill will arrive later :( We did up our MSA to hopefully cover most of it. We also will be getting a debit card that draws straight out of the MSA so that we don't have to pay it and then submit paperwork, which I'm excited about.

Don't be concerned about things being different with this baby versus the last, everyone I talk to tells me how different their pregnancies are.

Morning Glories!
(still morning here anyway!)

I tried my snoogle last night and didn't love it. I was too concerned about disturbing DH who had to get up at dark-thirty for a plane. I'm going to try it again tonight when he isn't in the bed. I'm very tired today and the weather is crappy, so I'm not in a great mood.

Numbness - not really, but I do get restless legs if I don't walk enough during the day. Also had this last night.

Dizziness - I have noticed that I get this more often.

Headaches - yep. Usually I try to blame it on dehydration but when that doesn't work, I'll have 2 tylenol. I hate taking it, but sometimes ya just gotta.

Insurance - I actually just called to check on a claim so asked all about this. My OB is out of network, so we pay 30%, but the hospital is in network so we pay 10%. DH has a small company so the insurance isn't great (and I'm self-employed so I'm on his). I think I mentioned we have to pay my OB in advance for her professional services and then submit for reimbursement to our insurance. Oh well. Not something I can change.

Having stuff in the house - We have little gifties that have been given to us, but I'm just not ready to buy until we know the sex and start on the nursery. We'll be bringing our stroller home at Christmas since it's a gift from his parents and we'll probably order the crib in early Feb. I have a feeling my friends are planning a surprise shower (or I'm hopeful since it has been obviously NOT discussed, but I've been told to register). Bedding and some other stuff I'll start ordering in March or so probably. Our house is small and I just don't like the clutter.

QOTD: are any of you (that celebrate it) getting DH a baby-related gift for Christmas?

I was planning to get him a daddy diaper bag from a company that a friend of his friend started, but they aren't shipping the daddy bag until Feb. 1. So probably not now...

Headaches Reading this thread jinxed me b/c I haven't really had any and I have a killer one now.

numbness I've had this with my right leg the past two nights. I couldn't figure out how to describe it. It's a pita

Stretch marks I didn't get any with ds and don't have any yet. But I did get very veiny in my boobs and belly

I'm so jealous of you girls registering. I had so much fun doing it last time. DH was so disapointed when I told him we weren't registering again. Not b/c he liked doing it but he liked getting all the gifts.

Shortcake We have that swing and it saved our lives. For the longest time that's the only Josh would fall asleep at night. Great price!

I've scheduled our U/S for 12/19. I'm very excited-not very excited about having to have the very full bladder for it. Last time it was so bad I had to pee a little before I went in b/c I was so uncomfortable.

Oh is anyone here from or living in NJ? We are moving in January to the Parsippany area and I will need a new OB and Ped so if anyone knows of anyone... TIA

Mrsk I am taking zantac, but maybe pepcid would work better. So far bland and small is not doing a thing.

Insurance I forgot this one earlier. My insurance is excellent luckily, so everything is covered 100%. My doc told me to come to him for everything during this since it all will be covered. I am with Fats though. I think the luxury room might be extra, but worth it. I think the hospital listed it as $100/night over the other room.

Heather I will be stopping by the store today for lotion! Might as well try and smell good :-)

Jen -Did they tell you to have the full bladder again? That stinks! With DD I definitely did not have to have a full bladder for the 20 week u/s, so if they didn't specify you might be in luck. I hope they don't make me have a full bladder for this one - that was miserable!

shortcakeThey did tell me to have the full bladder. IIRC she told me to drink 32 ounces of water before hand. Yuck. Maybe I'll buy some depends in case of an accident.:D

Don't sneeze

LMAO!

But I'm not the only one who will have to sit there with 32 ozs. of water in my bladder and not being able to do a darn thing about it.:p

I was just looking at the April Mommies thread to see what is in store for us. Looks like they have just about all found out the gender (that wanted to). Who is the first of us to find out (besides Akachan who I am still jealous of! ;))? Fats on the 9th?

I'm a bad group member, I know. Between my own finals and the class I teach, I've only been up to lurking. :) Answers to all (most?) of the questions I missed.

I'm waaaay jealous of the ladies who get 100% insurance coverage. This kid is costing us a bundle. In fact, my insurance is so craptacular that they made us buy a separate policy for maternity coverage, since that is now an "elective" procedure. Ours is an 80/20 with a rediculous deductible. We've met it now, but it will reset January 1. Yippee!

Stretchmarks The only comment I have to make is that a few more won't hurt. :)

Headaches Check. And just recently, too. Tylenol seems to take care of them thus far.

Numb/sore legs Not so much numb, but my thigh and back muscles have been achy. Is it the sciatic nerve that causes all that fun?

Weight gain As of last appointment, I am up one pound. I'm plus sized, though, so I'm supposed to be gaining a minimum amount of weight.

DH and Christmas I don't know about that one. I don't think he's connected to this pregnancy a whole lot yet. Not that he's not happy...just that it hasn't really sunk in. I brought home a onesie with little dogs embroidered on it and it freaked him out a little bit.

Big u/s Mine's on the 9th, too. I just haven't updated that yet.

I missed that one of us knows the sex of our baby already! Congrats on another boy Akachan93!

I'm getting so excited for our u/s. Not long to go for us all now ladies! I'm crossing fingers our ultrasounds show big healthy strong babies. And non shy babies for those wanting to find out the gender. :)

I am so full, just ate a big tub of leftovers from last night, at 10.00 in the morning. :D Followed by a brownie. :D :D

Dizzy - Yep, I've been getting dizzy a lot lately. That along with complete exhaustion, so I'm thinking it might just be because of anemia.

Has anyone else started eating practically non-stop? Well, not eating, but you could eat non-stop. The other night I ate a bunch of stuff before I went to bed. Crazy!

A quick hello -

I went to the Dr. yesterday and heard the heartbeat for the first time. Super cool!

I go for my AFP on 12/22 and the big ultrasound 2 weeks after.

Weight Gain I went to the nutritionist on Monday and my weight was the same. Yesterday at the Dr. it went up 1.7 lbs. I was told to gain a lbs a week. Jarm - Yes! Eating has become my greatest passion!

We're going to a cloth diapering class this Sunday. Hopefully this can work out for us (it would save TONS of money.)

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I had my big U/S last Tuesday. But, we don't want to find out what we are having. We did find out, however, that the baby looks healthy! The baby is also measuring 1 1/2 weeks ahead. I think this may be another big baby. My daughter was 2 weeks early and weighed 8lbs 11oz.
