I'm hosting a dessert party next week. I'm going to make a chocolate cake, put out some chocolates, and then??? I'm at a loss. I don't want any more chocolate, but I'm not sure what else to make.
Suggestions?

Mixed basket of cookies, including: Oatmeal raisin or oatmeal cranberry cookies, sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies

I feel lame because I think I recommend this on every posts about parties, but ...here I go again...Costco has these frozen profiteroles/cream puffs that are divine.Oh not lame at all. Those are *fabulous*. I serve them all the time (and keep a box for myself too!). Good suggestion.

Maybe something not so sweet like pumpkin, banana or zucchini bread?

What about Flan? Very easy to make from scratch or get a box from the Goya section of your market.
An ice cream bar is always easy and fun too!

Oh, I didn't think about cream puffs! There's my last dessert.
I night do the Trader Joe's ones, though. Our Costo here is absolutely insane. I only go when absolutely necessary.

This is REALLY good and quite easy to make....you can use angel food cake from a cake mix, or store bought.
Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle
INGREDIENTS:
2 quarts strawberries, sliced
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons almond extract (I used only 1 tbsp)
2--8 ounce blocks cream cheese, softened
1 C. sour cream
2 C. powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
1/4 t. almond extract
16 ounce tub whipped topping or 1 pint cream, whipped
1 large angel food or pound cake, torn into pieces
PREPARATION:
Set aside some berries for garnish. Mix rest with sugar and almond extract. Set aside.
Mix cream cheese, sour cream, powdered sugar, vanilla and almond extract. Fold in whipped cream.
In a trifle bowl: 1/2 cake, 1/2 berries, 1/2 cream cheese mixture, repeat layers.

for the holidays, you could always make a pumpkin cheesecake with a nice cranberry puree.
also, have you considered serving a cheese plate? it could present a nice contrast to all the sweet desserts. i'd put some nice cheeses on a plate with some dried cranberries and toasted walnuts. good luck and have fun!!;)

Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle
I am SO trying this with raspberries (love em!) YUM! :D
This month's Cooking Light had a whole section regarding dessert parties. Check out their website for recipes.....
Here's some ideas from their list:
Sweet Potato Streusel Tarts
Sweet Plantain and Chocolate Empanaditas
Peanut Butter-Fudge Cups
Mini Peppermint and Chocolate Chip Cheesecakes
Apple and Cream Cheese Roll-Ups
Mini Mocha-Toffee Crunch Cheesecakes
Apricot-Cranberry Tarts
Polenta-Blueberry Cakes
One idea that I really liked was having a coffee bar to go along with it. Provide coffee, flavored syrups, sprinkles, etc and to-go cups for when people leave. I thought it was cute!
