QOTD: So you loose a pound here and a pound there...when did you really notice that you've lost some weight?

I'm 12 lbs down so far and I'm JUST starting to notice my arms aren't looking quite as hideous as they did before. And my "back rolls" are just starting to fade away slightly. But those are things I have to concentrate to be able to tell, and sometimes I even second-guess that I'm seeing those changes correctly. Otherwise, aside from looser clothing, I don't really notice a difference yet. When I lost 45 lbs a couple of years ago, I didn't notice as drastic of a change as I thought I would have. Until I took a picture of myself at 128lbs. Then I could definitely see I looked different than I had at 173. Although, now, when I look at pictures of myself at 128, I think I look pretty darn skinny! I guess it's all on your perspective.

Other people haven't started noticing a difference yet. Or at least, they aren't telling me. I think it will be pretty obvious once I'm past the 15-lb or 20-lb mark, so I should start getting those "Are you losing weight?" comments in the next month or so from my friends and coworkers.

Oh, and because I think that height and amt to lose play a part in this, I'm 4'11 and I still have about 33 lbs to lose to get to my ultimate goal of 114.

Total Loss - 3.4

Well I really only followed points for the first half of the week, so at least I didn't gain :p

Here I am. After two children and a lot of eating, I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I weighed in this week at about 5 lbs. heavier than I thought I was. I can't say I've been diligent about eating healthfully, but I didn't think I was in as bad shape as I'm in. Now I'm determined to get it all off!

I have about 30 lbs. to lose, 40 to get to my super-fantastic goal.

I'll check in after my next weigh in on Saturday, and will be here for support in the meantime.

Hmm, didn't do very good this past week. I followed my points but really cheated Sat and Sun, right before my weigh-in this morning. I'm sure that's what did me in. Ok, more disciplined this week! Well, at least I still had a loss.

Can I join too?

I lost about 60 lbs. on WW back in 2001/2002, but then I lost my motivation & eventually quit going to the meetings (seemed like a waste of money since I wasn't making the effort to follow the program anymore), & since then I've gained back most of what I'd lost. :(

DH did the program with me for awhile back then & lost over 120 lbs. but he's gained back a little more than half of it since we quit going. We've both been feeling really bad about our weight & our health lately, so we finally decided to suck it up & re-join WW to help get us back on track.

We started 2 weeks ago, & so far I'm doing okay. I was disappointed that I only lost 1.2 lbs. the first week (I was sort of expecting a bigger first-week loss since we'd been on vacation the previous week & I ate a ton of crap!), but this week I lost 2.8, which is better. So far I have primarily focused on eating within my points & journaling, & haven't put in a lot of effort to get more exercise. However, I think I'll try to at least get out for a couple of walks during my lunch hour this week.

Anyway, here are my stats. I'm not gonna list my actual weight - let's just say it's a big #. ;)

WEEK 2

This Week - lost 2.8 lbs. (yay!) :)
Total Loss - 4.0 lbs.
WI Day - normally Saturday a.m. but this weekend we went on Sunday instead
Initial Goal - 10% loss (hopefully by the time we go to Hawaii in Sept!)
Ultimate Goal - Eh, I dunno, I think it's something like 140-145 lbs. for my height/age. But really that's so far away that I cannot even think of it as a goal right now. Baby steps!

I'm doing the Flex Plan, BTW. There's no way I could do Core - I'm not good at restricting my diet that much!

Jumping on board.

Start: 147
Mini-goal: Lose 5 lbs by July 12th (my birthday!)
Ultimate goal: 130 by September 1st

I will have to re-assess if I want to lose more after that.

If anyone is interested, I am planning on tracking my meals and points (I am doing the Flex plan) in my journal. I know I always like to get ideas from others about meal planning so I thought I'd share with you guys.

I've been going to the meetings at the Kent WW center because it's closest to my home in Renton (actually there's one in downtown Renton too that is probably equally as close, but I've never gone to check it out). I like that the Kent location has lots of weekend meetings - I prefer to weigh-in in the mornings rather than the evenings, & they have meetings on both Saturday & Sunday mornings now. The leader who does all 4 of the Saturday morning meetings is a pretty good leader - he's really popular. :)

Hi Ladies.

Last week was my 1st WI and I was down 2.4lbs!

I weigh in again tonight and think I may be down another 2-3lbs!

Question - Does everyone weigh themselves at home each day, or do you only look at your weight when you go to WI?

I think I am becoming obsessed w/ the scale. I don't know if it's a good thing...or a bad thing. It's good to be aware, but not good to obsess. UGH!

I only weigh on WI days. It keeps me motivated to try to have the biggest loss possible because if I know I'm already down a pound or so, I'll cheat the rest of the week!

Hello Kitty
06-23-2006, 07:47 AM
Like I posted a few pages ago, I weigh in every morning. I'm not obsessed with it, and I keep it in perspective. Weighing in daily helps me understand my normal weight fluctuations and see patterns. It also prevents me from being discouraged from a weekly weigh-in that is less than desirable.

Anyway, this week:
Week 26
+ 2.6
Total loss - 10.1

I was on vacation for a week and pretty much ate/drank whatever I wanted. The only 'rule' I followed was stopping before I got full, and never was stuffed. It's also my week off BCP, and last month, I gained the same, but lost it the next week. Ehh, could be worse ;)

I think I need some encouragement.

Finally got my Lifetime status last week (yay!), but have found myself just merrily eating away this week. It is like I haven't seen food before. I can't seem to get back on track to my WW eating pattern.

Has anyone gone through this? How do you deal with it? What can I do to get back on the right path?

This too shall pass. I think I did it my first week too. But, I kept going to weekly weigh in for at least a few months to keep myself on track, then went down to weighing in every other week. I still do that and I've been on Lifetime for 1 1/2 years. I need it.

Hello ladies,

I am hoping you all might have some insight for me, as I am getting a little frustrated. I have been doing WW on my own (have done it twice before so I have all the materials). According to the info for flexpoints, I should be eating 24 points a day, plus flex. I have been eating 22 pts- my mom has done WW a few times and says she often eats in a lower point range to speed up her weight loss a little - and not using any flex points.

I have also been exercising (cardio, yoga, and weight lifting) about 60-90 mins, 4-5 days a week, but do not use any points I may gain from that. I have been drinking about 100 ozs a day, about 80 of that being water and the rest non-caffeinated diet soda.

In the first couple of weeks I lost 6 lbs, but the scale has been stalled for the past week and I am getting extremely frustrated. I don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Sorry this is so long....

06-24-2006, 10:06 AM
Naws - Not eating enough calories can almost be WORSE for your body when trying to lose weight ESPECIALLY when being active. You have probably hear people on here talk about our bodies going into starvation mode. NEVER eat below your points and I feel it in imperitive to use flex because it kick starts your metabolism, especially use flex on days where you have done a lot of activity. I race mountain bikes and am very active and if I do not eat enough I stall out too. So try eating a little more, it may surprise you!

Hello Kitty
06-24-2006, 10:15 AM
Yep, exactly what sportyJ said. :) You definitely need to eat within your point range and add your flex and APs too - that is the number for weight loss, not maintenance. Cutting below the guidelines just makes your body short on calories, which is really bad.

If you feel 'bad' about eating more food (you shouldn't, but I understand) maybe make sure the extra points you eat are nutrient-rich and add value to your day - lean proteins, whole grains, extra dairy. You don't have to add 5 points of cupcakes or pizza ;)

MMH, great weigh in - you'll definitely make your july 4 goal.

PS ladies. I took a week off of WW after 10 weeks of being OP and 14 pounds lost. At my WI after my week off I had LOST .5!!! I was thrilled, shocked, excited. Just saying WW is fab, it really boosts your metabolism because I did not count points nor exercise much at all and still recorded a loss. I have a total of 15 pounds GONE now!

This week was tough for me not to eat beyond my points target, for some reason. I tried not to go over by too much though (I know I have my flex points, but I sorta blew it last weekend & pretty much used those up right at the beginning of my week. ) But I still managed to lose a pound & a half, so no complaints. Just gotta try to stay on track a little better this week...which may be hard since AF will be coming in a few days... :(

Oh, & I have to give myself a pat on the back for not going out to lunch for 3 whole weeks (well, aside from one business lunch with my boss the other day). :D Normally I go out to lunch 1-2 times each week, but I've really been trying to make myself bring my lunch every day because I know if I go out & buy lunch I'll end up eating something that is lots more points than what I could bring from home. My "treat", though, is that sometimes I go to Jamba Juice after lunch & get one of their all fruit smoothies - the 16 oz. ones are only 3-4 points & I love 'em!

WEEK 3

Joining back up...I was going to meetings shortly after the birth of our DD, quit going to save money when DH was out of work for 5 months and now that it's been a year since DD was born and I still haven't lost all my weight, I'm doing WW online.

Starting weight: 167
Goal weight: 130 (actually 125 but I want a cushion)
Pre-pregnancy weight: 145
Final pregnancy weight (2 days before delivery): 201

I started on Wednesday and was doing great. Then AF arrived   and I've had the worst sweet cravings (I never crave sweets except during TOM). I'm a terrible night muncher...I HAVE to get out of this habit! I also have to start exercising. I love yoga but can't get into a class because I have no child care during the day and no yoga classes offer daycare. I could walk but it gets WAY hot here and there are terrible mosquitoes and I hate to expose DD to both. I know, I'm full of excuses.

Thanks! I'll probably wait until we move to try to get into a class or gym. I have dvds, I might have to dig those out. I really prefer the classes though, I really dig the music, low lighting, incense and having the teacher there to correct my poses. That's part of the allure for me!

I need to get focused. I've come up with another mini goal...165 by 7/26 as that's when I have my next annual OB/GYN apptointment and I really want to be at my pre-pregnancy weight by then.

Congrats to all the losers! You all are really motivating me to get back on track!

I've just started doing WW Online yesterday. About 4 years ago I did WW online and went from about 160 to 137. By ny wedding (7/3/04) I had gained about 5 lbs, which I was fine with. However, I gained 10 lbs on our honeymoon and have only continued to gain weight. At this point, I'm very discouraged because I got rid of my larger clothes and now nothing fits!

2 slices whole wheat bread toasted with 1 tbs light margarine and 1 egg fried (using light Pam) 3 points FRIED EGG SANDWICH! YUM! So freakin filling because its a ton of fiber and protein. That with a cup of fruit and you have a 4 point lunch!
Yum! That sounds fantastic! I may try that for dinner tonight! :D

Question: How do you fry an egg? :o

I have a question for you all who take advantage of activity points. I currently get about 40 minutes in at the gym about 4 days a week. I consider it "high intensity" by the definition WW gives of "an activity that makes you sweat". Based on the time, my weight, and intensity level - the activity point finder says I should add 5 extra points to my diet each time I exercize. I'm a bit apprehensive about adding all 5. Most of the time I add 3 or 4 - depending on how much I sweat, etc.

So my question is - should I use all 5 points? Seems like alot for just a 40 minute workout (even if I'm sweating). And I wonder if that's taking into consideration that you actually dont sweat for the entire 40 mins... Probably the first 5-7 mins are just warmup. KWIM? Help! :)

Okay - I've been reading along, but now I'm subscribing! I'm doing WW online to lose this darm pp weight. I gained 52 lbs  during pregnancy, and I'm having trouble getting these last 10-15 lbs off.

Here's my deal:

Start - 5/18/06 - 141.5
Current: 134.6
This week's loss: 1.4 lbs (good week!)
Total lost: -6.9
Ultimate Goal: between 115 - 120 (I'm 5'2")

I'm nursing still so I'm not so strict on points, but I'm obviously making better choices and eating smaller portions because some weight is coming off. I'm planning on weaning in about 2 months, and then I can go hardcore.

Most of the time I add 3 or 4 - depending on how much I sweat, etc.If that is the number of activity points the activity point finder says you earn from your workout, then go ahead & give yourself credit for all 5 points. :)

However, regarding this question:
So my question is - should I use all 5 points? You do not have to convert the activity points into food points & eat them...you can just earn them as activity points & continue eating at your normal point target level based on your weight. WW allows you to eat your activity points if you choose to, but it is certainly fine not to as well, as far as I understand. ;)

but it is certainly fine not to as well,
While it may be in the WW rules to not have to use your APs, the only thing ;) is that when you exercise, you do burn more calories. Since WW is already a lower-calorie plan (when you add your daily pts + flex) if you exercies on top of that, and don't refuel your body, you run the risk of eating too few calories, which is counterproductive to fat loss. So keep an eye on your progress, because you may need to eat your APs.

If you have been eating lower-calories for quite awhile, it may be a shock to your system (causing a temporary gain) to eat all your earned APs right away. You may want to start slowly, eating half of them, and adding half again as many the next week, and so on.

I eat my APs on the day I earn them, for the most part, but I try not to use them on absolute junk - adding in some full fat cheese (my favorite) or regular pasta, stuff like that. Okay, and occasionaly, I eat a point or two of brownie mix :D

Agreed. I earn five a day (usually) and use most of them on a daily basis.

I gain a pound this week, which isn't bad, given that I was on vacation and ate horribly all week (but I did run everyday on vaca!!)

Down 2 more lbs for a total of 7lbs.

I made a great pasta salad for lunches (from the WW site).

Pasta, low-fat moz, tomatoes in a balsamic vinegar dressing. It's fantastic and 4pts, I think.

Then DP used chicken drumsticks when making soup for DD, so they were boiled down and very flavorful, I've added those for more protein. Delicious meal. :D

I'll be making the salad at least if we go to the ILs or something for the 4th.

POINTS® Value | 4
Servings | 6
Preparation Time | 15 min
Cooking Time | 9 min
Level of Difficulty | Easy

Ingredients
8 oz uncooked fusilli, or other spiral pasta
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar, or more to taste
2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 cup cherry tomato(es), or grape tomatoes, halved
1/2 cup basil, fresh, chopped
1/2 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, smoked, diced
1/8 tsp table salt, or to taste
1/8 tsp black pepper, or to taste

Instructions
Cook pasta according to package directions without added salt or fat. Drain and transfer to a large bowl. Add vinegar, oil and oregano; toss to coat.

Fold in tomatoes, basil and mozzarella; season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve warm or chilled. Yields about 1 cup per serving.

Flavor Booster: Sun-dried tomatoes add an intense and sweet taste to this dish. Place 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes (not oil-packed) in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Set aside 10 minutes to plump. Drain well and substitute for half the cherry tomatoes in the recipe.

This was my first post-lifetime weigh in and I lost 2 lbs. I am a bit surprised, because I have been eating very poorly during the past couple of weeks. Having a very hard time regulating my portions – guess I need to actually measure instead of just “eyeballing” it.

On the bright side, I have found a very yummy treat. It is a GO TART (variation of the PopTart). Very chocolaty and only 3 points.

Sue,
It just depends. I think you get some additional information by attending the meetings (activity slide, etc.) but not much of a difference. I did WW 3 years ago and bought the info off Ebay same as you and lost 33 pounds (unfortunately I packed it back on with pregnancy). Some people just don't need the meetings. I found forums such as these were all the support I needed.

Here are some other tools that have helped me in my journey:
Dottie's Weight Loss Zone (http://www.dwlz.com/restaurants.html)
Diet Facts (http://www.dietfacts.com/default.asp)
Online Points calculator (http://www.alexnolan.net/software/pointscalc.htm)

mb1197
If it's not on one of the two sites I posted above, it should at least give you an idea. It's tough when they don't have the info, but the longer you are on the program, the more you will find that you can successfully estimate when you need to. Being a point or 2 off for one meal won't throw your entire week.

I have a bad feeling about this week. I was quite stressed about a job interview, and attended a family get-together at my grandparent's house on Sunday (my grandmother is NOT a good thing for my diet!!!), and I didn't really count everything like I normally do. Hopefully damage is minimal. I think this might be one of those maintain or slight gain weeks. The doctor's scale in the ladies locker room here at work had me at 145, which is what I weighed last week.

I'm not too stressed about it though. Even if I didn't lose, I know next week will be better. And just the fact that I've lost nearly 15 lbs in the past 9 weeks is enough to keep me going strong!

Give Diet Facts a try, too. I find that it's got a lot of places that Dottie's doesn't have and vice-versa. If one doesn't have a particular restaurant or menu item, I'll check the other.

Heather,

Nope! :p

I don't think any of us are looking forward to weighing in after a holiday. I guess I'd rather take a little gain to shake me up a bit. It's kind of like, 'Hey! You can't keep this up all summer. This is not the last BBQ you are going to or the last time you'll be around a beer. Stay OP!'

It's really hard for me to stay OP on core when we're going out and about without bringing my own food. I try to eat all core when I'm at home, and then just do the best I can while I'm out. It's not perfect, and probably not OP, but I guess it's okay.

WEEK 11

Start: 159
Last Week: 145
Now: 144
This week's loss: -1
Total lost: 15
Goal: 114

My goal was to be 143 by today, but I'll take 144. That means I'm only one pound away from my 10%! I was hoping to be into the 130s by my 2nd wedding anniversary on July 24th, but that's unlikely. I hope to get really really close, though! And then, I'd really like to be 135 (which was my wedding day weight) by the time we leave for our trip to Boston on August 24th. That is exactly 7 weeks from today. Seven weeks to lose 9 lbs sounds relatively doable.

Oh yeah, since I hit 15 lbs, I got another little 5-lb star on my progress chart (I do WW online). As silly as it sounds, it's always fun to get another star. Just like kindergarten, huh? :p

So, today is day 2 OP for me. It's much more difficult now than it was last year when I started my journey. I had a coworker comment on how "fat" I was getting and how she could tell that I was gaining weight...so, I am trying to use that as motivation to get my rear end in gear and buckle down. The weekends are going to be difficult for me, but....I know that I am a happier person when I'm thinner and we'll save money by not going out to eat all the time... The only thing I worry about is our love for food and going out to eat. I will just have to plan ahead so that I can treat myself on special occasions.

Anyway, congrats to everyone on here, each and every one of you are an inspiration to me. Thanks!

Looks like I forgot to post my weigh in for last week. I had gained a few back, getting back up to about 175. So at least I was able to take the weight back off plus another .4 of a pound.

Week 27 - 2.2 loss (mainly water weight from being on vacation)
Week 28 - .6 gain (could have been much worse since I wasn't exactly OP)

I did measure quickly, and I'm not really happy with the results. My bodyfat is down from last month, but my hips (the fat part around my hip bones - there's no muscle to build there :p) are measuring a bit higher. Sooo, I'd like to try and clean that up a bit. At this point, I'm fine with maintaining my weight, if I can do that through the summer I will consider myself sucessful.

Congrats to all the losers!

Coming out of hiding to say a few things…

I’ve been doing weight watchers for about a year now. I lost 35 pounds and 4 dress sizes. I started the program last year with my DH to lose some weight for our June wedding. Well, now the wedding is over. I just feel like I’m losing control. I’ve gained 6.5 lbs since the big day and I don’t know what’s happening. :o I lost all the weight on my own, without meetings or doing it online. I’m really frustrated because I feel like I’m letting myself down. I eat anything and everything that’s in front of me! I was such a strong person while I was losing, but now I feel like I have no control. Maybe I should start journaling again or something. How do I get back to that same mindset?

I did the same thing, only it was after we began TTC and not after our wedding. I'd put on a pound or two a month, shrug it off and say I'd try harder. I never did. By the time we conceived our daughter, I was up 15 pounds and gained a whopping 50 pounds with my pregnancy. I'm finding myself back where I started. I want to kick myself in the butt for letting it get to this point after I worked so hard.

Definitely start journaling again. Also, try to set a goal for yourself. Now that your wedding has passed, maybe look forward to some other big event you'd like to be thin for: a trip to the beach, a friends' wedding, etc. It's natural to lose focus. The important thing is that we get back on track.

I forgot to weigh in last Saturday:

Week 2: +1

Total Weight Loss: -4

Not so sure why I was up a pound, since I tried really hard to stay OP. This week has not been so successful since I was home on Monday and Tuesday. I find I eat much better in the office - no grazing!

I'll update tomorrow after my week 3 weigh-in.

ALeonard, I know how that feels. Before I got pregnant, I lost about 30 pounds - as I remember, it was fairly easy. Not easy in that I didn't work hard, because I did, but easy in that when I did the work, I saw results. After my children, I got so lazy and just let myself go. Needless to say, they're 3 and 1.5, and those 35 lbs are back. Now that I'm committed again, I find it's not coming off as easily. Hang in there, though. It's such a reward when you weigh in with a loss!

Good luck!

I read an interesting article (of course I can't find it online) that talked about the various phases of a woman's life and how she loses and gains during them. Such as the happiness of just getting married, she gains. It joked that the happier you are when you get married, the more you both tend to gain. Made sense to me, DH and I both gained when we first got married!

MMH - Don't sweat the gain. I don't weigh in till Sunday am, but I am expecting the same. It seems as the holiday got to most of us. Time to get back on track!

ALeonard - Getting back in weight loss mode is so tough! It usually takes me a good 2 weeks to really get back into the grove of it all. Just remember that it will get easier as your body gets used to it!

Congrats to everyone staying OP....I"m struggling, that's for sure. I think it's harder this time because I have a different job (stressful) and I don't get to excersize as much as I did the first time I was on WW. I keep telling myself, if I can get through this weekend, I can get through it all! I'm trying!!

I went to my first WW meeting today. I have to do the meetings because I'm nursing. Anyway, they gave me a ridiculous amount of points I have to eat and I'm not sure I will be able to eat that many without eating junk!

I started out last week at 213. I didn't go to a meeting, of course. This week, I was at 211.8. I have to eat 36 points per day. So far, today, I've had 11 points.

Mmmmmm….I just had the best salad for lunch from Panera. It’s called the Strawberry Poppyseed Chicken Salad. It’s got Romaine Lettuce, Mandarin Oranges, Strawberries, Blueberries, Pecans, and Citrus Chicken. It come with a FF/SF Poppyseed Dressing on side. It’s HUGE and it’s only 6 points. Yummy!!

Yesterday was my last official day with Pumping, so I’m in total fear of what’s going to happen with my metabolism. There go the extra 300 calories a day I was burning. I can’t cheat as much now. :(

Despite my best intentions at the beginning, this has NOT been a good week. We have an indefinite houseguest (semi-permanent roomate? I don't really know what else to call him) who wants to order out or go out to eat every single night. I'm going to put my foot down and say no from this point on. We normally only eat out once or twice a week and it's almost always on the weekends (far, far away from my weigh-in day!). So far this week, we went out for Japanese food Monday night, and ordered pizza (and not the healthy kind that I normally get when it's just DH and I) last night. And then over the past weekend, DH and I had a Italian feast, where I used a whole bunch of my flex points. Unfortunately at that time, I wasn't anticipating our houseguest would be so terrible for my diet. Let's just say my typical weekly eating habits have been thrown completely out the window. I feel awful about it because I was really hoping to have my 10% this week. I was only one pound away at weigh-in last week. I still have the next 24 hours to stay on the straight and narrow, but I'm not sure it will be enough to reverse the damage I've done. :(

I'm incredibly frustrated at myself for giving in to temptation, but hopefully I can turn that around use that as motivation to do better from here on out. I cannot wait until our household is back to just DH and I so I can be more in control of my enviornment, and my personal habits aren't so disrupted everyday.

Fuzzy,
I always eat horribly when I’m camping. Full breakfasts, hamburgers or hotdogs for lunch, and then a big dinner. Oh well, you’re entitled to splurge every once in a while. Good luck at WI today. Hopefully it’s not as bad as you thought.

Foley,
Wow…2 pounds! That’s awesome!

Etoile,
1 pound is not bad considering. Like you said, there were two special occasions and you got out of your normal routine. I’m sure you’ll see better results next week now that you are back on track.

Heather,
Don’t beat yourself up. Flex Points are there for little mishaps such as these. But yes, I think you should definitely lay down the law with Bet if he is planning on staying long term. If you find the boys are still insistent, maybe stock up on some things that you can prepare on your own for pizza nights in. I keep some Lean Cuisine pizza and stuff around for occasions like that. Hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised with WI. I’m really hoping to make my 10% this week as well, but I think it will be next week. We can tackle it together.

LIZNKEITH -- can I nominate you for cheerleader of the year? :D

WI was fine this morning. Pre-vacation I was actually up 2 pounds, for a total loss of 7 pounds (on WW, Part II). I've been kicking my own ass since we got back (lots and lots of tae bo which I am now addicted to (yeah, I missed the original fad about 10 years ago!) and lots of water) and I lost those two pounds.

So that gives me (again :o ) a total loss of 9 pounds since starting up again. Phew!

Today is my birthday. Actually started the celebration on Saturday night with a big dinner at a greek restaurant. Points not counted.

My husband, light of my life, got me a birthday cake. I have been eating that since Saturday night.

Today, at work, my dear friends took me out for thai. It was delish. They got a cake for me.

When I got back, my co-workers called a "meeting". They had also gotten a cake for me.

I have already had 2 pieces of cake today, plus all of the cake over the weekend, plus greek, plus thai. Can someone gain 15 pounds in 3 days?

Can someone gain 15 pounds in 3 days?
Nah. It takes a lot more calories than that! :p But yum, greek!

Toss the leftover cake. I know it's easier said than done, but just get rid of it. Make sure you're getting enough water, and don't try to restrict your intake - just resume normal eating. IMO, the most important thing is to get back on track - no excuses. Again, I know it's easier said than done, because I struggle with that.

I keep telling myself - starting over [to get back OP] does not start next week or tomorrow. It starts right now, with the next thing I choose to put in my mouth. Yeah, yeah ;) obvious and cheesy, but it's true, right?

What is everyone motivation? WHY are we working so hard to lose?

Mine - I just swear I was not made to be the chubby girl. I am very active and athletic and do not recognize myself when I do not look that way. So in order to feel comfortable in my skin I wanted to lose. It also has helped IMMENSELY that I have a 10 day trip to Hawaii coming up in August! :p

Hi, ladies - haven't been here in a while. I hit a road bump at the beginning of June after my MIL died over memorial day weekend. I actually made very good choices the week leading up to, and the week after the funueral. For some reason I could not get motivated when trying to get life back on track. I atturibute that to having missed a lot of work and being too busy to really want to plan food.

The good news is I only gained back three poiunds.

The bad news is that after I got back on track I had a medical issue of my own that is going to end up restricting what I eat even more. Besides trying to stay on plan, I already avoid foods high in sodiun, which rules out most packaged or processed things. Green leafy vegetables are a major staple of my diet, and becuase I'm on blood thinners now, I will have to limit them, too.

I am really beside myself over this. I already know that planning in advance is what keeps me on track, but I can never think of a single thing to eat anymore. I am seriously considering quitting Weight Watchers and letting s dietician/nutritionist plan each crumb of food I put in my mouth (if my doctor will refer me, that is.) The idea that I can't eat big salads anymore is depressing me.

If anyone has done WW on severly restisricted diet, I'd love to hear how you did it.

Anna Low
07-18-2006, 05:57 AM
I’m so sorry about your MIL and your medical issues. I hope things start to improve.

As far as restrictions on the diet, I am not strict, but I’m also not a leafy green vegetable person. I like them quite a bit, but have to be in the mood. Can you do other veggies, like squash, tomatoes, onions, cabbage (too leafy?), asparagus, broccoli, mushrooms, corn, peas or eggplant? This might be a good chance to up your protein – like with chicken or fish. When I started my first WW attempt, I was a strict vegetarian who limited their carbs, so my choices were pretty limited. I avoided nearly all things like frozen meals, as they are primarily meat-based. Definitely not the same as what you are going through, but it was pretty restrictive.

Could you make your own prepackaged meals? Rather like the “meals for a month” concept but in keeping with your medical guidelines and WW friendly?

One last idea – I do this whenever I get a new cookbook – find recipes you could use and calculate the points per serving based on the nutritional value. Not all cookbooks contain this information, but the Betty Crocker ones usually do. (I have a “healthy choices” one that has great recipes) Then, you could find recipes that fit your dietary needs and you could stay on track.

Good luck!

When I started my first WW attempt, I was a strict vegetarian who limited their carbs, so my choices were pretty limited. I avoided nearly all things like frozen meals, as they are primarily meat-based. Definitely not the same as what you are going through, but it was pretty restrictive.Actually, it's more similar than you could have known. I was no meat/no poultry "vegetarian" for about 20 years (in quotes because I still ate fish) but I added poultry back in so I would have more choices for low fat protein. So far, I've only eaten boneless chicken breast and turkey meat loaf, though. I also limited carbs because they make me lethargic, so in addition to the medical restrictions, there are a few of my own design.

Your suggestion for "meals for a month" is a really good one. My DH would be in to it, too. He's a logical type who loves to strategize and calculate, and he's better in the kitchen than I am. :)

Thanks! I think I once saw a "meals for a month" type thread. I'll search and see what I find.

eta: a few of the veggies you suggested are considered green leafies , btw. Anything high in vitamin K is out. I'll have to get more creative, I guess.

Anna Low

One last suggestion – if you haven’t already, take a quick look at the South Beach Diet book, in the food list and recipes section. I don’t follow it (my mother does), but there were some interesting ideas that could definitely be modified for WW.

If you find some good meal for a month ideas, please share! I am a big frozen meal person now (convenience for work lunch) but will soon be migrating over to making my own versions next month. The only one I did that was even remotely WW friendly was a baked eggplant dish. I roasted the eggplant slices with a bit of cooking spray and herbs, then made my own “sauce” with some crushed tomatoes and spices. No oil. Layered that with the eggplant and added some fat free mozzarella when I re-heated it. Pretty tasty. (not sure about the vitamin K content, though)

Suzu - maybe check out WW core? I absolutely love it - I get enough protein, complex carbs and my diet is made primarily of whole, healthy foods (primarily ;)). It really fits with my fitness and nutrition goals.
</shameless core plug>

What is everyone motivation? WHY are we working so hard to lose?
I am working so hard to maintain (maybe get my bf down more) because I really do like myself better.

From losing 10 lbs and 4 dress sizes, I feel like a new person. I feel attractive. Confident. Outgoing. Respected. I do like myself so much better. I realize I put a lot of my self-worth on my appearance, which is really dumb, and hopefully I can grow up and out of that someday by continuing to take care of myself, doing the best I can.

suzubeane -- I'm very sprry about your MIL. I don't have any suggestions re: a strictly limited diet, but I do hope you find something that works for you.

What is everyone motivation? WHY are we working so hard to lose?

I like activity. From running to riding my horse, I do better when I'm not carrying extra weight. More than anything, it's the horseback riding that keeps me on track. Riding keeps me sane. I have ongoing issues with my hips and I am in less pain when I'm lighter.

WI for this week: -1 lbs.
Total loss: 10 pounds.

I love reaching the double digit mark...makes me feel like I accomplished something. :)

I'm getting to the point where I need to finally decide on a goal. I use WW moreso to keep myself in check, not to lose signnificant amounts of weight (just 10 to 15 pounds here or there). WW puts my 10% goal at 125. I made that last time, but truth be told I thought that was a bit too low. My nails started breaking, my hair got all dry and icky and I generally looked too thin. I think if I go down three more pounds, I'll be happy and attempt to maintain.

I lost 1.5 POUNDS this week!!!!

I was dancing all around, I am so thrilled with this loss girls it has been ages since I have had a HUGE loss like this, well according to my graph the last time I lost around 1.5 pounds was between weeks 1 and 5 when you typically lose a lot of weight and I am in week 17! WAHOO! I am trying to look at all my journaling to see where I went right - water water and more water. Exercise exercise and more exercise, but I typically do that. I really think it was the fact that I only used 19 out of 35 of my flex points. SO I am going to cut down to 20 flex points, that was I can still have 1 or 2 indulgences in the week because we all know that keeps us sane right?!?!? HOW GREAT!

What is everyone motivation? WHY are we working so hard to lose?

I don't want to be the fat mom at my kids' school. I had a fat mom, and I didn't like it at all. Now she's 67 and I love her dearly just the way she is, but as a kid I wished she were thin. Vain, I know, but true.

I could say that I want to run with them, go for hikes and play ball, but the truth is, I hate running and I don't like sweating. I want to be thin and not have to tug at my shirt when I stand up. Or, even worse, do that pull-out your shirt thing when I sit down and the shirt gets caught in my belly rolls.....hate that.

My motivation: my husband and I tried to get life insurance and they would not insure me. For any price. Even though I'm only 29.
I want to live a long life with my husband and family, and I want a baby.

Getting rid of my melted cheese craving without eating an entire medium pizza... priceless.

Congrats on making your 10% goal, Heather!!! You’ve worked hard to get where you are at.

jen,
Way to go!! I’m one who can’t eat too many of my flex points either. I limit myself to 2 indulgences a week and they are always within two days after my WI.

Motivation
Besides wanting to look good, I want to be healthier for my daughter. I found myself getting winded when I’d walk up the stairs. I want to be active and be able to chase her around. Not to mention, live a healthier life so I am around to see her grow up and start a family of her own.

Liz - Kind of a bummer realization huh? I love flex points but it has really slowed my loss especially once I have gotten down close to goal. BUMMER!

Julie - Yup I am a heair under 5'7 and my mom swear I must be lying about my weight, I have stood on a scale to prove to her! When i told her I was 135 for my wedding she about died because she swore I was 120! But nope! Do you have any pics of you! I'm the same way with Flex. I can't eat too many and if I eat any at all, it has to be in the 1st half of the week after WI. Otherwise I don't lose. I envy those who lose more if they eat their Flex!

Week 12 WI

Start: 185
Last Week: 169.8
Now: 170.2
This week's loss: +.4
Total lost: -14.8
Mini Goal: 165 by July 26
Ultimate Goal: 140

Urghhhhh! So I gained .4 back this week. I’m so ticked at myself these past couple of weeks. I actually thought I did really good food-wise this week so I was a bit surprise to see a gain this morning. Then on my way in to work I started thinking about it. I had 10 beers this week: 6 on Saturday (I know…LUSH), 2 on Sunday, and 2 last night. That’s a lot of points in just beer alone. So, I’m going to dry up this week and see if that doesn’t help me break this plateau. Ugh. This is the most difficult part of WW for me. I love beer and haven’t been able to drink much of it in the past 2 years or so because I’ve been pregnant/nursing. I finally finish nursing and this is what happens. Disappointment.

1st - Happy dance, I lost 1.8lbs this week!!!!! Total lost 16.8lbs I exercised 5 days this week (a first for me) and had 5 flex left at the end of the week.

2nd - MOTIVATION - we so I can have a baby and live a long wonderful life with my family. But also so I can be normal...I am fed up shopping in the big girl stores. I want to go to Ann Taylor and buy out the store! I want to go into Banana and try on clothes, not just look at jewelery or men's for my husband. And my newest motivation....now I know this will sound cheesy but Etoile. I was in a huge slump WW wise gaining and losing the same 1lb for 6 weeks. I wasn't being serious about this and I needed to be. We really click and are daily support for each other! She rocks!!!

Week 31 - gain 2; total loss 8.7

And I'm not the least bit upset about it. I was actually much more OP this week than I have been lately, and I didn't drink at all (so hard for me, too LizNKeith) but AF's here, and I'm a moose! I took measurements to console myself, and my arms/legs/hips/waist are all normal. Abdomen is up a touch, and my boobs are up 2" - So unless I got a boob job un-beknownst to me :p, I have a feeling my boobs and this weight gain will be out the door next week.

That said, I'm much more 'with it' than I have been for the past few weeks. I'm switching to a high intensity weight lifting routine, so I'm not sure what that will do to my mass, but we'll see what it does to my measurements.

I also went cheap on groceries last week - not that being on core is really expensive, it just takes a lot of planning, and it's easier to have fresh fruits/veg around, and I didn't. Planning is such a huge part of WW - planning what to eat, what you need to buy, where to spend your flex, etc...

I'm forcing myself to post here! I've been in and out of this thread for a while... I was doing great on WW until about January and have been in a slump ever since-- all my own fault.

I saw this quote today: "The worst part of success is to try finding someone who is happy for you." Jane Lazarre

I have a friend that says congrats and smiles when I tell how much weight I lost for each week. But she always tries to get me to eat foods that are high WW points. When I drink my water she asks if I want a soda. It's like she wants me to stay the same size since she isn't loosing weight. Anyone else go through this with friends or family?

Welcome back, Emily!

tgray,
You are so close to your first goal!! You can do it!!

foley,
I’ve noticed that after a gain it’s sometimes hard to lose again. It’s like your body takes an extra week or so just to get back on track.

fuzzy,
Happy Belated Birthday. Hey, if we can’t indulge on our birthday’s, it’s not worth it.

Congrats on the loss, Julie!

Bad Influences
Not blatantly, but DH still brings temptation in to the house. He is getting better though. Mostly because I’m the one who buys groceries and I haven’t shopped in a few weeks. :D He did crack a beer in front of me the other day, at which I shot him a nasty glare. He insists that he doesn’t remember me telling him that I was going dry this week.

3 chicken breasts (I guess 1.5 pounds?)
1.5 c. BBQ sauce
8 slices Mozzarella Cheese
1 can Rotel

Liz ~

A quick questions:

Is the cheese part-skim? Recipe builder only offers oz, gm, or lb - not slice. I assumed 1 oz. per slice.

With 3 breasts, 1.5 cups of regular bbq sauce, 1 can of diced tomatoes (they don't have Rotel) and 8 ozs. of part-skim cheese, it comes out to 10 points per serving for 4 servings.

Hope that helps!

DD and Liz - I do that too - have a day or two of being OffP, and I just stay OffP. I can see how people (not me, obviously) are sticklers when it comes to staying 100% OnP. I think I'm close, but I hope I get to the point where enjoying a night out with DH doesn't throw me off for the next few days.

For me, a few weeks of being off is really bad. That's when I start saying that I don't need to weigh in, and that I don't need to check my measurements. And that, for me, is when gains happen. At this point, where I am so, so close to my goal, it takes a lot of work to undo a small gain.

I'm confused as to where I'm I'm suspose to start. TIA! :DThe amount of points you're supposed to eat each day is based on your weight:

Less than 150 lbs=20 pts.
150-174=22
175-199=24
200-224=26
225-249=28
250-274=30
275-299=31
300-324=32
325-349=33
350+=34

In addition, you can eat up to 35 more points per week (these are called "flex points" because you can eat them whenever you want throughout the week. You can eat some, all or none of your flex points. Many people advise against eating your flex points because it can slow down your weightloss progress, but it's up to you.)

As for point values for foods...I don't know if there is an online resource for regular foods (www.dwlz.com is a good source for finding out point values for foods at various restaurants, though). WW sells a "complete food guide" that lists all sorts of foods & their point values - there's an alphabetical food list, plus a list sorted by brand, food type, etc. Other than buying the book at a WW center (which would require that you register for a membership, I believe), you could probably find one to buy on eBay. I don't know of any other way to get your hands on one.

Good luck! :)

This weeks loss - 3.2lbs!!! Total lost - 20.6 Very exciting for me. My DH and I were talking and I realized that 20lbs is like carrying my pug around everywhere I go. I just can't imagine....

Good job to all the losers!

Week 32 gain .2 /total 12.7

In case anyone is thinking 'boy, core isn't working for that girl! :p' I'm really trying to maintain my body mass at this point, but just lean out a little bit. I've added in points (by doubling my AP earnings) and I admittedly don't really count my WAP/AP I consume  so core works - as long as you count the points you eat of non core foods!

That said, my fat mass is up a little bit from the last month. I'm disappointed, but not really surprised. July was where my slacking off caught up to me, and I didn't focus as hard as I should have. We'll see what August brings.

It was a GOOD week!

*happy dance*

I was at 201.6 last week. I lost 3.8 pounds this week, for a total of 14 pounds. I am below 200!!!!!

I earned activity points 4 days this week, which I think helped a lot.

Is it possible to gain 5 pounds in 3 days?
Yes. :o

But it's also possible to lose it in a week by staying on plan, exercising, and drinking your water.

Congrat on hitting 20 pounds. That's awesome!! I make the same reference, but with my DD. It blows your mind, doesn't it?

lml,
Holy Smokes! Congratulations!! What a wonderful milestone!!

tgray,

Is it possible to gain 5 pounds in 3 days?
Yup, I'm ashamed to admit I've done it many times. I have a real touchy metabolism it seems. I gain really fast, but at the same time if I really apply myself, I lose very fast too.

Ugh, I was afraid of that. Amazing how 7 weeks of work can be halfway trashed in less than a week. Grr...

Ok, back on plan!

I haven't done WW in years, though in the late 90s I lost almost 90 pounds with their 1-2-3 program and made Lifetime. However, I have since put that weight+ back on and failed miserably 3 or so years ago when trying to lose it on the "updated" Points program(s). Let's just say the early 2000's didn't treat me well. And I never found a leader like my first one. I really clicked with her, but she left shortly after I made Lifetime. :(

Anyway, I'm considering going back - partly to lose the weight and partly to meet new people. It's been so long I probably won't really notice the difference from the 1-2-3 program. What can you tell me about the program now?

Hi! I'm just coming in here to see if anyone knows where I can find a list or something with different foods and what points there worth. I want to start WW but I don't want to attend any meetings and I want to weigh in at home. How many points am I suspose to have a day? What foods are worth what? I'm confused as to where I'm I'm suspose to start. TIA! :D

I don't know if they still do it, but a few years ago I did Weight Watchers Online. You could keep your journal and track your weight all on their website, weighing yourself in the comfort of your home. And if I recall correctly, you could look up the points for foods and activity. It was really convenient.

I'm RE-subscribing here. :)

I have decided to join traditional WW meetings, commencing this Saturday. FINALLY there is a meeting in my area that works with my schedule, for one thing. Most of the meetings in my area are weekdays at 5:30, and I barely get HOME at 5:30 most days--with my infant DS in tow--so that just wasn't working for me.

I did try doing WW online, and it was TOO easy for me to cheat and not be accountable to myself. I'm just one of those people who needs the discipline of a weekly meeting and weigh-in.

My current weight is about 30 pounds higher than I would like it to be. I THINK I weigh 165-170, but as my scale sucks, I won't post my current 'official' weight until I weigh in on Saturday. I've lost some weight since having DS, but I'm just at a standstill lately. Funny, I found my OLD membership book from 2004 (which was the last time I attended traditional meetings), and I weighed 140 then. And I thought I was fat then, which is kind of laugbable to me now, as I'd love to weigh 140 again! :)

I feel excited and overwhelmed at the same time. But I've done this before--I lost over 50 pounds in 1999, so I have to convince myself I can do it again!

They still have it -- I do the on-line plan.

Good week for me, I lost 2.5 pounds. I'm within 5.5 pounds of my official goal (I'm still debating whether I want to use that goal or up it a little).

I'm thinking of doing WW online. I want to lose about 15-20 pounds, and unfortunately all my attempts at losing solely through exercise are not working due to my bum knee giving me pain.

My question is, how hard is it to prep meals on this plan? DH does all the cooking in our household, and I'm lucky if I can toast bread. If I do WW I can't expect him to cook special meals for me, so can I handle cooking on this plan on my own?

greenbunny -- there aren't really any pre-planned meals. Well, they give you menu suggestions and there is a wealth of recipes on-line that you could cook...but one of the primary points of the program is teaching you how to eat normal food, but just making good choices about what you eat.

Example, if you are having pasta, you'd have one cup of pasta instead of a heaping plate of it. Instead of, oh, fried chicken parm, they'd suggest baking it instead. Fuzzyhubby is trying to gain weight, while I'm trying to lose. I usually make one main dish (usually a meat) and then alter the sides so they fit our diets (i.e., tonight is london broil, he'll have corn on the cob smothered in butter, I'll have corn on the cob smotherd in lime juice. I'll have cuke salad, he'll likely have pasta salad).
