I was just talking to someone at work and she was telling me about her daughter. She is making her right a report about internet safety after an incident that occurred recently. She found out that her daughter was on messenger chatting with someone she didn't know and the person had her turn on the web cam so that they could see her.

Of course the girl - who is 13 - thought that she was chatting with another young girl. They keep the computer in the main room of the house (she doesn't have her own computer) and the mom saw what was going on and they had a talk. Now she wants her to look up information about what can happen with these things and she has no clue what to search under. Does anyone know of any good websites to start at? Maybe even some general safety on the internet hints?

SafeKids.com (http://www.safekids.com/) or SafeTeens.com (http://www.safeteens.com/) would be a good place to start.

Here are a couple more:

http://www.netsmartz.org/ (really good one)

http://www.ou.edu/oupd/kidsafe/start.htm

http://www.fbi.gov/publications/pguide/pguidee.htm (for parents, but still useful for the the child's research)

Hope these help!
