Ladies do you feel like bra sizing is a secret formula that only a few know? Don’t be discouraged I am here to help. Take Nancy of Miami, she wrote to me after using Sculpted Silhouette’s Bra Calculator.
Question: Hello. I’ve been buying 36A’s, but when I used the bra calculator, I got 32D. If I am 31 inches under the bust, 34.5 (35) inches over the bust, and 35.5 (36) inches across the bust, what size would I wear? Nancy
Reply: Hi Nancy. If your rib cage is 31 inches then you should be wearing a 32 bra. The band should be snug but not tight against your body. Try a 32 or a 34, the 34 may seem to feel better but I would suggest the 32 as elastic wears out faster then we all think. However you are not a 36. You see the lift we are all seeking comes only from the band.
Now for the cup. If your bust measurement is 35 or 36 inches (rounding up). Then subtract the bust number from the rib cage number, 32, and the difference is 3 to 4 inches. With me so far? The rule is every inch is a cup with some considerations. Therefore, 3 inches is a C cup and a 4 inches is a D cup. Yes I know that is unreal! Believe me it is. Now consider this…The under wire of the cup should lay on your body not your breast. Also cup diameters increase as the band number increases. So your A may fit your breast ok but the 36 does not fit your body. Conversely, if you went to a 32 A it would fit your body but the cup would be too small. You see most women stay with the cup size as the breasts and body grow as well as change. It is the other way around stick with the band number (until it is too tight) and increase the cup. I hope this helps.
Ladies don’t go at it alone call your local lingerie shop or department store and get some help getting fitted. They can help you to get you into the right bra.
