I didn’t know that you could use carving pumpkins to make food. I thought you needed sugar pumpkins for that. . .

This year we didn’t buy any pumpkins, so we didn’t have to deal with it. But they usually just go in the trash when they’re past their peak. I’m thinking of starting a compost bin, so maybe next year, I’ll be a bit more “green” and dispose of them that way!

LOL - Jennylou, your list reminded me of the scene in Forrest Gump where Bubba is talking about all the things that can be cooked with shrimp (”…Shrimp kabobs, shrimp chowder, shrimp sandwich…”) - made me smile. Seriously, I’m not a baker but my mom sure is and she and my DS are counting the days down till they make pies out of his pumpkin patch pumpkins this year. From what I know, we’ve never bought special ‘kins for pies — just used the workhorse patch variety.

MLA - the small, baking ones are exactly the right size for a 15 month old to pick up. We bought another one that was bigger but didn’t carve it, so I’m going to give it a shot too. :)
