Hey all. Thanks for the read and all of your nice comments. Standrea - What an irresponsible ex-pilot sitting behind you! I would have politely told him to 'shut it' after a while! Ugh.

About the priest, well, he was the calmest one in our section (besides the two people sitting next to me who were completely and utterly clueless.)As I remember it, he just looked over at the mother who had made the request and reached out and touched her arm and the baby gently, smiling all the while. It was more of a reassuring thing than an 'official' blessing if you kwim. Even though I had started crying by that time, it was comforting to see that the priest wasn't getting too worked up about it all. He actually spent the entire crisis reassuring nearly everyone in our section. I would have taken what he was giving, ha ha, but I was seated directly behind him so it was difficult for us to interact. I did think that if things got REALLY bad, perhaps I would get out of my seat and go forward and ask him to bless me, but thankfully I never had to make that move.

I did find out (in the rebooking line in Nashville) that he was an Episcopal priest and being an Episcopalian I have always thought that that was a comforting coincidence (in a strange way.)

you should just carry this around and let people read it if they harass you about not flying. :)

i also think its cool that you get to see more of the country by staying "grounded".

"Quasi-related sidenote: did the priest bless the child or anything?"

I was wondering the same thing!

I would have been so scared. I once was on a flight where there was an x-pilot behind us, and he kept saying he smelt some sort of fuel leak or something. I cried the entire flight.

You already know this but I'm flying with my two kiddos on Satruday. THANKS! lol. I think I'm going to be too distracted with keeping them calm to be worrying about the plane cracking up. But GEEZ that is a scary story.

You are a great writer. I always enjoy reading your entries. That is so scary. I've never had a scary flying incident, but I do get nervous each time that I have to fly and even more so now with the baby.

I would totally be grounded if work permitted. The only time I fly is for work and I hate each and every minute of it!

Wow. I am not grounded because my job requires lots of travel and I certainly could not drive everywhere BUT flying does scare me and I cannot imagine what you went through. I fly out in 2 days and have pretty much conceded the fact that I need at least one alcoholic beverage before I get on the flight.

I'm just like you! I wouldn't say completed grounded but I hate flying so much due to a very scary experience similar to yours.
